Speaker 1 (00:00):
Hello, and welcome to Wagon Jake. I'm Jake Story Ellie
breaking the New York Mets are going dancing insane, a
fun one at the JM office. An insane game eight seven,
back and forth for anyone that tuned in for the
live stream with Jolly. I poked my head in there
every time I did. The Mets did something bad, I

(00:20):
got kicked out. Incredible game. And what you need to
know for this episode, Hey, congrats to the Mets. Man
what a year, what a start to the Stearns era.
You know, this is a team that's supposed to have
a big next year and call up kids and make
big splashes in free agency. They're going dancing. They've got

(00:40):
some funk in that rotation and a Mets team with
their back against the wall and nothing to lose. Why not,
It's gonna be fun. They're playing the second game now.
And what you need to know, we were recording during
the first so you get some live updates from the
seventh and eighth inning, and then we basically said recording

(01:01):
and went and watched the game and did some other stuff.
So buckle up for that, and you basically have two
intros into this game. Congrats to the New York Mets.
Frankie Lindor, did he just get more MVP votes today?
I think so, the regular season stat absolutely think so.
And Edwin Diaz with a chance to be in all

(01:22):
time loll Mets pretty big bounce back inning from him,
impressive stuff, and man Edwin Diaz versus Jared Kellnick. It's
just one of those things where baseball can rear its
beautiful head where you'd never expect it. Excited, We're gonna
get some jolly Mets live streams coming up. We're live
streaming all day tomorrow. So the rest of this episode, hey,

(01:45):
it's catching up on the rest of the playoff picture.
We have snakes and braves. Fans are nervous for the
next three hours. We'll see what happens there. We go
through some of the ale and then we wrap up
with some NFL So kind of let's go oh Mets
for a little bit. I would not want to play
them right now. They have a little bit of magic.

(02:07):
I almost want to do this episode as Baseball magic rankings,
figured I might lose too many people with that, so
it's a little abstract. Instead, here's this subscribe. We can
do this production of dan Patrick Productions, Shohn Bley Media
and Workast Media. Hello and welcome to Waken Jake myself,
Jake's story, Ellie, all the hot topics in the sports
world Producer BBD. The playoffs are here kind of as

(02:32):
I record this, Mets and Braves are teeing it up.
I mean, you'll get some live updates through this. The
Braves are up three nothing in the top of the
eighth inning, hosting the New York Metropolitans. We will dig
through the playoffs that we know about, which is a
lot and it is looking close to say that Atlanta

(02:57):
will be in the dance, which would be they'd be
with the Padres. I think Beabs. I'll double check that
with you, But I think the way Dalton had it
listed on our sheet was it was Atlanta, New York
for San Diego and Arizona, New York for Milwaukee. So
it feels like with the Braves win Braves Padres is official.

(03:20):
I think, so maybe maybe send Delta text while.

Speaker 2 (03:22):
We did that.

Speaker 1 (03:24):
By breaking news Heeim bloom taking over the Cardinals. Wow, Okay,
I knew he was in the mix. Geez Heim bloom
Buster posey, It's all happening in the baseball world. I do.
I fear I'm not gonna deep dive on Buster Posey
going taking over the Giants or Heim getting time with
the Cards, because we have to talk about the playoffs.

(03:47):
They are here. The Mets have a scary two innings
and maybe a scary game coming up after that to
decide the potential fate of their season. My d Backs
are in a tight spot, just gonna be waiting watching
this second game, rooting for the team, not trying to win.

Speaker 2 (04:10):
Uh.

Speaker 1 (04:11):
With some good fodder with Trev on Talking Baseball today,
and it was interesting seeing the comments whether whether this
is a good or bad thing. I even saw some
tweets going around saying that that the the Braves might
forfeit this game, and that would be They're not doing that,
and I think Andy Martino came out and was like, no,

(04:32):
like that's that's not going to happen. I think the
baseball overlords would not let the Atlanta Braves do that.
So with that, I can chip off a little bit
of the al again. Me and Trev did a lot
of this on Talking Baseball this morning, and I'm more

(04:53):
excited for the Ale than I than I thought I
would be. You're my Yankees and your Guardians have it covered.
Mets into the gap. I did place a bet on
the Mets to come back at plus fourteen hundred, so
I may cash that out at some point during this show.
The Yankees will be waiting the winner of the Royals

(05:15):
and the Orioles, while the Guardians will be waiting the
Detroit Tigers and the Houston Astros. I'm a big storylines guy.
I tell you this every March when it comes to
March Madness. And we've got a couple of good ones.
Man between the shortstop bull. You know, Gunner Henderson was
kind of going toe for tow with Aaron Judge for

(05:36):
the MVP Award. Early on this season, Gunner faded and
Bobby Witt Junior took off and led the Royals on.
I mean, kind of like a historic comeback.

Speaker 2 (05:50):
Man.

Speaker 1 (05:51):
Pretty nuts what they did going last year fifty six
wins to a playoff team this year. Vinnie Pasquentino, our
guy lurking. He's a question mark for the Royals, and
I think I have a feeling in my head that
they are going to then he Passedquentino may make the

(06:13):
roster even just as like a threat off the bench.
They've been pretty coy about it. We'll see Vinn. He's
a dog and if he can be there in some way,
shape or form, he will be. The Royals have pitching
and I do think Baltimore has pressure on them this series.

(06:36):
You know, the Baltimore Orioles, who one of the favorites
in the AL, still one of the favorites in the AL,
but tough second half under five hundred, and this Oriols
team hasn't. They went to the Alds last year and
they got swept by the Texas Rangers. So this Baltimore

(07:00):
Oris team is yet to win a playoff game. I
don't know, h I don't know they they're standing well.
The rushman stuff has entered a weird area, but he
gets to face Cole Reagan's in the first game. Adley
has crushed lefties this year. Uh And, as Trev noted,

(07:21):
with playoffs, all the stats get erased. Your season is gone.
It's what are you doing in this series? A guy
can become an instant like intentional walk guy. If someone's
got a three hit day going, you're not pitching to
that cat anymore. Corbyn burns verse Cole Reagan's in that

(07:42):
first game is an awesome pitching matchup h the al
and and maybe I don't have enough NL to compare
it to. And again maybe maybe it could be screwy
depending how this Mets brave stuff sorts out. Corby Burns
versus Cole Reagan's is the goods. I know Kansas City

(08:05):
pr wise is in where they have been or I guess,
you know, maybe get some of that Chiefs effect going.
But as the Mets just score a run, it's three
to one, keep an eye on that cash out. Yeah, beabes,
you're thinking about it. The double ten to win twenty four.

(08:26):
Have let to ride baby. Cole Reagan's had an awesome year.
Go check out the stats. A lot more strikeouts than
innings pitched a five war season from a pitcher him
versus Corbyn Burns. Who Corbin Burns is peaking right now?
That is everything, man, That's a great pitchers matchup. Each

(08:50):
team has bullpen options and pitching options. Brady Singer should
be kicking to the pen for the Kansas City Royals,
unlike Detroit Houston, which we'll get to in a second game.
One's important. I think it's more important for the Orioles,

(09:10):
Corbyn Burns being there one to one. Like the Royals,
they have four starting pitchers. The fact that we think
Singer isn't gonna get the ball. He's been a really
solid guy for them this year, while the Orioles will
be coming at you with Ethlyn who has been really
good for them. Albert Suarez might be in the mix.

(09:33):
That Baltimore is gonna have a little pressure in them
in this game. Dean Kramer's been good for them. They
are the better team and the Mets are rallying. Oh forgot,
Francisco Alvarez can't run so well.

Speaker 2 (09:49):
I'd get that double beautifully me either.

Speaker 1 (09:52):
To be fair, let's see what the cash at option is.
If you guys don't know and you're listening to this
blind drafting has a cashout of up to forty bucks.
I'd really like to get another run in. Let it
right up to forty one. Here's my thing. I think

(10:14):
the pressure is going to be on the Orioles in
game one. It's a home game. Texas dusted them last year.
Corbyn Burns is on the mountain. They do have the
playoff experience from last year, so this young cor has
felt it They've got it back in Baltimore. It's been
a weird couple weeks for them, man, Like you know,

(10:37):
the Baltimore Oriols were supposed to be fighting for the
division with the Yankees. They've kind of been floundering. And
yet they got to pop bottles the other day, like
they they achieved their goal. They made the postseason adly
really struggled. They just got bodies back. They just got
Jordan Westburg, who was one of the best infielders in
baseball the first couple months of the season. Ryan Mountcastle

(11:00):
is a hitter. I love him come the postseason. I
think we did an episode with Foolish last year. Ryan
Mountcastle lands and my guys who hit book like he's
gonna swing, He's gonna put his bat on the ball.
Francisco Lindor up two runners on MENZ does not look good.
It's getting juicy, folks, cashouts.

Speaker 2 (11:18):
Really getting higher.

Speaker 1 (11:19):
Oh God, just climb forty four. That's a good investment.
But the Mets fans are hyped right now. I can't
let it go. This is like a live podcast that's
not live. It's lining up to be fun baseball. The
Orioles have such a deeper lineup. The Royals are really

(11:41):
throwing out this kind of veteran Hodgepodga so and so
They've really missed Vinny p We're hoping that the moments
do land for Bobby Witt and Salvy. How fun would
that be? Gunner Adle, you know, Colton Kowser sprint for
that rookie of the year. Let's hope this game, these

(12:04):
games end up in the stars hands. Oh boy, the
office is freaking out. Lindor up the middle, Are you
do you cash out? I cashed out ten to win sixty?
I should cash out. I'm cashing out because I don't
think people want to.

Speaker 2 (12:19):
Hear that I might cash back in. I cash out.

Speaker 1 (12:22):
I cash out. That's a winner. Ten bucks just won sixty.
Pretty crazy the other series in the AL. I do
think the Tigers have one game to keep this crazy
train going. If you don't know, the Tigers have had
the best record, the best record in baseball for the

(12:44):
past month and a half or so. They sold at
the deadline Jack Flaherty, who will be leading the Dodgers
rotation in the postseason. They trade Mark Canna away, veteran
guy that's seen a lot. Yet They've got a new
starting shortstop in Trey Sweeney. Uh. Again, he hasn't been Gangbusters,

(13:05):
but he's just fit. This whole youth movement infield for
the Detroit Tigers, and the whole team is youth and
the Cy Young Winner and a good bullpen. So they
go to face the Houston Astros. They don't need an
introduction at this point. Framber and schoolball. If you like
good pitching, just go watch that game. Sometimes Framber throws

(13:28):
just a two seam fastball that makes your jaw drop sinker,
two seam, whatever, the way it runs out of his
beautiful body is a special thing. Uh. And yeah, if
the Tigers win the first game, Trek scuoble your cy
Young Winner. They've got four deep in their bullpen that

(13:51):
can come at you. Foley Houlton, vest bow brisky, I
bow brisky. They're gonna empty the kitchen sink at Framber
and the Astros in that first game. Are they gonna
have nerves? Are they gonna be excited? Let's check in.
If they lose game one, it is over. That's the

(14:12):
Houston Astros they play for this time of year. I
think the Royals Orioles is a toss up. Trev threw
that out there a couple times. I think even if
the if the Royals were to lose Game one, they're
not dead man. They got Seth Lugo on deck. The Royals,
they have a playoff pitching formula. Ersg's been great on

(14:33):
the back end. They've had a couple guys in the
pen pick it up. They've got like four or five lefties,
so they're gonna be able to mix and match really good.
The Astros are the Astros are the Astros. The only
thing that's missing, You're not Alvarez. Some weird knee stuff
going on that I wonder if we're gonna look up
in three days. If Houston somehow gets taken out before

(14:54):
the CS for the first time in seven years. Tough
to believe that. Going up against the Tigers that were
under five hundred in August kind of reminds you of
a Diamondbacks team, doesn't it. But that Diamondbacks team raked.
The Tigers have to win Game one, and if they do,

(15:16):
they've got two games to run into a couple, get
a lead, and let their bullpen work. If they do not,
Houston's gonna go on to play the Cleveland Guardians, which
let's see what that looks like. You'd have to think
by the time I talk to you guys next, it'll
be Wednesday. Might be foolish texting with them now flex

(15:41):
The Mets fans are going absolutely loco Starling Marte scores.
It's a tie game. My goodness, there are no outs
runners on first and third. Oh my god, this is
where I don't know if live is good or bad.
Might have to cut in after Justin Pennock Akunya Schwellenbach

(16:03):
looks shook. Hello, my goodness. The Yankees await Orioles and
the Royals. I think each of them provide different problems
for the Yankees. The Orioles kind of division rivals. Things
got hot this year. The Orioles are here, they have town,

(16:24):
they have tons of talent up and down the lineup.
That Orioles bullpen does scare me. But we've said that
about teams coming into the postseason, and that can change
very quickly. The Royals Cole Reagan's is a star lefty,
and the Yankees really struggle verse lefties. Even Lugo got
him once this year. And for the guard Dogs, I mean,

(16:45):
if in the nicest way, they're expecting to see the
Houston Astros, which has been a bad matchup for literally
every team they've seen in the Division Series for seven years.
If the Tigers, how do it buckle up in the
National League again, it's a little bit what we know
you've been getting live Mets updates. This game just turned

(17:09):
fully on its head. Uh three to three game first
and third. You want to see a dugout, dynamic change,
Jesse Winker and Francisco Alvarez doing like finger gun Selly's
Uh two to one to Vientos. Does that have enough?
Are they gonna test money, Mike Harris, this is live

(17:29):
bad podcasting. They sure are. It's Lindor cut off. The
Mets the lead. The Mets have the lead four to three,
and now this game has just gone so fascinating because
both teams are gonna have used their good bullpen. Rice
il Iglesias is in the game right now, Jimenez has pitched.

(17:49):
The Mets have to go to their good bullpen. Uh,
we've hit chaos for the Braves and the Mets and
my snakes have to be loving this because now they
have a real chance, I think in this next game.
And dude, so I don't know what's gonna happen. And
these words can be pretty wrong pretty quick as they

(18:11):
Mets steal second hose Iglacias, Oh my god, his words
not mine.

Speaker 2 (18:22):
That.

Speaker 1 (18:22):
These two teams being division rivals and the Mets history
without forty man rosters, this follow up game is huge
because you would have seen a hideous game, like everyone's
already talking about how they're gonna punt and all that,
and maybe they do, and maybe that hurts everyone on
both of these rosters is a major leaguer. Like the

(18:46):
Braves bench is a bunch of MLB veterans, like you're
gonna get a good effort out of them if they
come back now and win this game. The New York Mets,
their bench has a lot of MLB veterans that like,
it's not gonna be a cake walk and I think
that competitive energy man of your division rival, and you've

(19:09):
got a shot to put them away. You've got a
shot to end their season. See you next year. CanCon
on three and Brandon Nimo sends one to the seats.
It's six ' three. I wish I didn't cash out.
I guess I'm happy I am, But the New York
Mets maybe up to something miraculous. They are two innings

(19:34):
and three runs away DBD. Unfortunately, you know what we
have to do. Don't tell anyone. We're gonna put a
little bit of cheese on the Braves. We're just gonna
plus fifteen hundred. That's exactly what the Mets were. They
get a base runner on. Oh boy, oh boy, it's
getting juicy.

Speaker 2 (19:52):
I we cashed out when the Mets got one back.

Speaker 1 (19:55):
I just said the Braves were gonna go to San
Diego and NL. I'm sorry. I know, I'm a Yankees
guy and I'm an Ale guy. I can't really talk
about you because it's happening live. It's happening live time.
You know what, I think we're gonna bring in Justin
Pennock and talk a little bit of football. We might
have to circle up on this Mets action because how

(20:21):
the tide has turned in Atlanta right now. It's the
beauty of baseball. You just never know, and we still
might not know. Hey, let's talk a little football with Pennock,
and I think we're gonna wrap around and we'll probably
talk a little more baseball at the end. All right,
we are joined by Justin Pennick catching up on some
some Week four action. Checking in at week four, I

(20:44):
want to talk some of the big picture stuff with you.
How you doing JP?

Speaker 2 (20:48):
This normally would be a quarter of the way through.
It's like a quarter season checking that's not anymore.

Speaker 1 (20:53):
NFL's changed, man, They're.

Speaker 2 (20:54):
Gonna add another game and then we'll get back to
the even number.

Speaker 1 (20:57):
They were. We were laughing. We talked at someone decently
high up at MLB and they were like, NFL changes
a rule, many rules every year, and nobody really cares.
No Baseball they change one thing in the old heads
freak out yep. Anyways, panic, let's start big picture. It's
part of the reason I got excited to pull you

(21:18):
in here todays. I'm always excited to pull you in
here today. I was a little shook by the Ravens
last night. I mean, I get it, Sunday Night football,
the All Blacks, crowds going nuts, Derrick Henry for a
buck ninety nine tough. I don't know, man, I know
this is a Ravens team. Did you love them last year?

Speaker 2 (21:39):
I loved them last year, and I had and I
had hesitations on them heading into this year.

Speaker 1 (21:44):
I think I might be all in. Lamar with the
MVP and his bag seems like he's even a little
more comfortable. You know. The Isaiah Likely breakout has been
nice as I kind of like Bateman. Derek Henry and
Justice Hill have an old school thunder and lightning thing

(22:06):
going on right now. Hamilton on defense, Harbaugh head coach,
although he makes a mistake last night that made me
laugh the second time out. I don't know, man, I'm
I'm in. I guess football a lot of time comes
down to wear and tear. Like if Lamar get's banged up,
obviously that changes the whole Ravens out look. Dereck Henry,

(22:26):
I mean everyone keeps wondering when the mileage is gonna
run out. I also, I love a storyline. Todd Monkin.
I think he's a guy. Their offensive coordinator. Yeah, came
up through the college ranks proving himself at the NFL. Now.
I don't know, I'm in on the Ravens recipe, and
it seems like the first time you're half out on

(22:47):
the Ravens.

Speaker 2 (22:48):
No, I'm not. The NFL is a week by week business,
and you know, in a sport that isn't about sample
size because each NFL Sunday means so much. It also
is about sample size, and what the Ravens did through
the first two weeks of the season is Okay, we're
gonna we're gonna throw the ball a little bit. And
that's not what this Ravens identity for the at least

(23:09):
the twenty twenty four Ravens, it's not what it needs
to be. It needs to be through Derrick Henry. It
needs to be through Lamar Jackson's life, but also it
needs to be through like Lamar Jackson being efficient through
the air. And that helps through the last two weeks
when you get off to a huge lead against the
Dallas Cowboys and then you get off, then you blink
and the Ravens are up twenty one to three Sunday
Night Football against the Bill, So that that helps when

(23:29):
you run the ball and you're explosive through the air
and then you get off to these big leads and
then it's like, oh, well, we'll just keep pounding the rock,
keep pounding the rock. I still want to see the
Ravens because not every game, not every game you're gonna
be running for two hundred yards, and not every game
you're gonna get off to a two to three score lead.
So and that's where you kind of saw a Week
one and week two week too, they got off to
a lead and there's still a fourth quarter. There's still

(23:51):
like a second half Ravens question. But anyway, their formula
is dominating the run game Patrick Wricard, who I think
is one of the more under underrated players in the
NFL when Isaiah Likely and Mark Andrews aren't necessarily those
inline blockers, but they do a great job of lead blocking.
The hesitation that I had with them coming into this
year was with their offensive line. I mean, they have

(24:13):
a rookie starting at right tackle. They have Daniel Filele,
remember that name from the University of Minnesota. Converted tackle.
He's now at guard. They have questions on the offensive line,
and they've done a good job of kind of rising
above that by leaning on teams. But there's no reason
why you shouldn't be buying into the raven stock right
now because they're kicking ass.

Speaker 1 (24:32):
Man the NFL. They got They're at Bengals home versus
the Commanders, which is one of the biggest games in
the DMV area from Marland, and then they're at Tampa
who knows what you do with that at this point. Yeah,
I just think they're a unique team to game plan for,

(24:53):
even when you throw out Ricard, when you throw out Lamart,
like it's almost like everyone's unique that planned for them. Uh.
I think it's just hard to do. I mean some
of the players Monkin draws up. When you see the
linemen just sprinting.

Speaker 2 (25:07):
An you don't know where to go because linemen are
going one way and then the ball's going the other way.

Speaker 1 (25:11):
It's it's tough. It's tough that Raiders one. I mean,
they just blew and it is weird, and that's weird.
They've had a history the past couple of years of
blowing late leads the NFL. Then at Chiefs Week one,
I mean game came down to the water, right, they
could have they had that or could have had that.
Excuse me, they didn't. I want to do this quick
because I don't think we need to deep dive. I

(25:35):
really like Jaden Daniels. Yes, we we live streamed half
accidentally the Commander's Giants games that they should the Giants.
That is my long Island coming out. The Giants should
have won if the Giants had a healthy Graham Gano.
They win that game. I was kind of laughing because

(25:57):
Bobby was getting on Jaden Daniels for not throwing down.
In my head, I was laughing because if this had
been a Daniel Jones, like I felt, if we were
watching the Giants offense, you guys would be like, oh,
they're being efficient, they're getting the ball out quick today.
But because it was a commander's team and a rookie quarterback,
it's like, he's not thrown downfield. Now. I'm watching him

(26:20):
at LSU last year he was awesome. I thought he
should have been the one pick in the draft. I
kind of didn't. Caleb got worse last year. Whatever, Caleb's
generational talent and maybe it all comes together. We're four
weeks in. We're four weeks in.

Speaker 2 (26:41):
I don't know, man, They're off to a historic start.
Like it's it's historic, you know. I like the paper play,
all right, I'm gonna pay per plays an efense thing.
It's efficiency efficiency, long story short, it's the two through
the first four games of the season. It's the two
thousand and seven Patriots. Number two is the twenty twenty

(27:02):
four Washington Commanders. In terms of EPA per play through
the first four weeks. It's crazy, that's historic, that's historic.
Now we were getting on Jade Daniels week one in
week two isob Bobby and I are big pumped the
breaks people. Sure, it's not boy's Bobby could be a
little bit more poop pool on fun, but I don't

(27:26):
like to poopool on fun. But I will poop pool
on fun when people are having a little too much
of it and it's not when it's not earned. First
two weeks of the season, when I think it was
Cam Taylor Britt of the Commanders said they're they're running
a high school college offense. It was true. They were screens,
check downs, Jaden Daniels running if he doesn't see. They

(27:46):
were not throwing the ball down the field. Do you
want to know what they've done the last two weeks.

Speaker 1 (27:49):
Thrown down the field.

Speaker 2 (27:50):
They've thrown it down the field. They've mixed, they've matched.
Jaden Daniels is throwing with anticipation. He's throwing beautiful deep
balls at Tarry McLaurin. He's running two plus. Their keeping
the short intermediate game. The thing is that teams are
just teams are giving them. They're giving them the short
area of the part of the field, so he should
take it if they're playing ten yards off that they're
playing with so much cushion, and you know, it's the

(28:12):
old age saying of you know, take what the defense
gives you. And that's what Jaden Daniels is doing. And
they're running the damn ball too. Yeah, and that's what
Cliff for all the you know, the memes and the
jokes that Cliff Kingsbury would get back at Arizona for
only throwing a one side of the field, which still
is kind of the case. But his run game was
always kind of fun in Arizona. The run scheme stuff

(28:32):
was fun. And you see Brian Robinson with a bad
offensive line, it's probably more shocking than Jaden Daniels doing well,
because Jaden and Daniels has all the talent in the world.
Probably more shocking that this offensive line is holding up
for the Commanders. So historic start and the last two weeks.
Can't pooh pooh on it. It's awesome, it's fun, it's
good quarterback stuff, and he's electric.

Speaker 1 (28:51):
Yeah. I think I told you guys this maybe during
the stream, but Ryan Rosillo, who I listened to a
lot he's followed the Jade and Daniels he is connection
at LSU and they said they they used to add
to beg Jane Daniels to like throw it, throw those
dangerous bass. Yeah, like hey, third and long take a shot.

Speaker 2 (29:08):
He has the arm to do it.

Speaker 1 (29:10):
He does, and it's so it's so easy, Jacob. It
looks like it's happening quick man, Like I he's a
guy that I've had stock on and now it's happening
that I. I think I'm at the point, and I
think everyone's kind of at the point, and it's kind
of where it's what you were saying, like, hey, you know,
there's probably a pump the brakes coming, but I don't
think I'm gonna.

Speaker 2 (29:30):
He defenses could adjust and then that's This is the
beautiful thing about thefl is that there is going to
be one team. Even if it's one team and then
everybody else copycats from it, there's eventually gonna get a
point where there's gonna be a fork on the road
and it's not gonna be this historic start. And then
you have a bad Washington defense that could creep up
on them. That defense is really really bad too. That

(29:51):
secondary is really really bad. And that's not really like
a dan Quinn prom It's kind of like a talent
problem during you're one of this rebuild. So it may
get figured out at one point, it may slow down,
but celebrate what's what's happening there in Washington because nobody
thought that this would happen.

Speaker 1 (30:05):
So then how about this? Who for justin Pennock. You're
in the tape, you're in the weeds, you're an efficiency guy.

Speaker 2 (30:14):
Uh.

Speaker 1 (30:15):
You know, after a couple of weeks in this early season,
you know there's Commander's excitement. Chiefs are four and oh
see them towards the end of the year. Quietly the
Vikings people are hot to trot on. Seattle has a
chance tonight to go four. And oh, I guess who's
the team that from your preseason expectations till now has

(30:38):
changed the most.

Speaker 2 (30:40):
The Vikings.

Speaker 1 (30:40):
Yeah, the Vikings.

Speaker 2 (30:42):
I just didn't think that they were going to be
a good football team. And it's Kevin O'Connell, Sam Donald
making really good throws. But really it's.

Speaker 1 (30:51):
We were told this was in Sam Donald for years,
but it just never happened.

Speaker 2 (30:56):
Well, he never never had a coach like Kevin O'Connell, right,
And that's why when talking, you know, especially with the
NFL Draft and the whole JJ McCarthy thing, Well, where's
JJ McCarthy go. How good is JJ McCarthy. Hey, he
looked at every every quarterback would love to land in Minnesota. Yeah, oh,
that's such a great Michael Pennis, JJ McCarthy, Who are
Bo Nicks? Is such a great fit in Minnesota. You
want to know why all these guys are a great

(31:16):
fit in Minnesota because it's good infrastructure. Kevin O'Connor's a
great coach. They have a really they have a really
good tackle pair, left tackle, right tackle pair. Aaron Jones
was one of the more underrated signings of the NFL offseason.
I think the Packers downgraded and they wounded up paying
more money for their running back. And he goes to
a divisional rival. And you look at what Aaron Jones
is doing. You look at what Justin Jefferson's doing, Jordan Addison,

(31:39):
you know, off the field stuff for side has is awesome.
Even Jalen Naylor has like three touchdown passes through four
weeks two so and then but the defense, I will say,
everybody's talking about Sam Donald in the offense. You know,
the offense is sexy, Justin Jefferson making these one handed
catches and is awesome. Sam Donald play action, best quarterback,
under play action all Kevin O'Connell kind of driven. But

(31:59):
the defense, it's been awesome. Yeah. They're like number one
in sacks, they're number one in passes defense, They're like
number one in QB hits. This is a defense that
is gonna go after the quarterback. They're gonna be aggressive
with the ball in the air in the secondary. And
what what star do they have on defense? Brian Flores
right besides him? Like what star right? Danell Hunter left? Ye,

(32:21):
they're twenty tackle for lost, teen sack guy left. So
it's it's awesome to see what coaching and it's not
just coaching. There's good players on a team.

Speaker 1 (32:29):
Yeah. I was gonna say there's there's a couple. You know,
even if you're a Madden fan, a Stefan Gilmour jump scare,
he's playing corner for them. It's like, what but he
was signed in augustan Byron Murphy. This feels like an
old Madden Fantasy draft. You didn't like the Van Ginkell signing.

Speaker 2 (32:50):
But it's a Bryan Flores signing play with him in Miami,
So you know, like this isn't a superstar studded team.

Speaker 1 (32:58):
Is Harrison Smith?

Speaker 2 (32:59):
Still they have they have a real they have three
really good they have three really good safeties. I will
say that, but still, like Jake, none of them that
sticks out to you.

Speaker 1 (33:08):
Who's okay? But before I do that, what about the
other end of the spectrum, like who are you? Who
are you out on? Like Eagles? Eagles are turning a
lot of heads as like what is going on here?
Yet at the same time they could be three and
one pretty easily. I guess on the opposite end of

(33:31):
the skedrum, who are you high on that you've now
seen four weeks of and you're like, I'm I'm not
doing this? Yeahing pensive. Good question, that's a sign great question.

Speaker 2 (33:48):
I almost wanted to say the Bears. But I'm not out.
I'm not out on the Bears. Really, I'm not out.

Speaker 1 (33:54):
I'm a little out.

Speaker 2 (33:56):
Here's what Here's what makes me very I'm very proud
out of Caleb Williams when it comes to this, Caleb
Williams has been very good instructure where it's the magic stuff.
It's the Caleb Williams run around, throw it deep that
that's that's not there, but the Caleb Williams quick game instructure,
get the blot of your hands. That stuff is there,

(34:17):
and I think that stuff is sometimes the harder stuff
to grasp for NFL qbs. The magic Caleb Williams is
going to be there and when it can and when
it hits, it's gonna hit different. So I will I
will say that.

Speaker 1 (34:32):
I don't know. I again, maybe I have too much
Jayden Daniels love in my heart, which is fair. That
holds me back on Caleb a little bit, like more
than the average person. Last week they win one hundred
and fifty seven yards passing. The week before that, that
was his like big yardage game. I think he landed
at to seventy to sixty. I can I can play.

Speaker 2 (34:54):
Its three It was against Colts.

Speaker 1 (34:55):
It was three fifty so let's see, so Colts was
three sixty three. So that was that was last week
one seventy four against Houston, ninety three against Tennessee. So hey,
that Colts game. It's a lot of yardage. Was that
the Hail Mary game? That's what I was setting up
for so, I mean, that's like minus fifteen whatever. There's

(35:16):
a lot of yardage there, three touchdowns, four interceptions. I
don't know, I know what you're saying.

Speaker 2 (35:22):
And their defense is good too, this very early.

Speaker 1 (35:25):
Their defense is good. Keenan Allen had been out, Like
I'm he's a rookie quarterback. I'm I'm giving it time.
But I just think we now there's been a few years.
Who's the last outside of like the Darnald, like the
the reinvigorated guys, Baker refining his way. I guess what's

(35:45):
like the best rookie put up a rookie season, like
a couple more touchdowns than interceptions, and then the light
bulb went off. I feel like that's a bad question
because it's putting you on the spot for nothing.

Speaker 2 (35:57):
But it's a less time than a a rookie started.

Speaker 1 (36:01):
Let's say Caleb stays on this pace and he finishes
the season in.

Speaker 2 (36:05):
Almost a fifty to fifty maybe fifty.

Speaker 1 (36:06):
To fifty, sixteen touchdowns, fourteen interceptions, when and then they've
taken that jump, like you know.

Speaker 2 (36:13):
What Trevor Lawrence said, right.

Speaker 1 (36:15):
Trevor Lawrence, Daniel Jones. A lot of comparisons there recently.

Speaker 2 (36:20):
Daniel Jones started off and that's the whole other case.

Speaker 1 (36:23):
So I don't know. I guess that's the I guess
that's it's an unfair question. It's four games for Caleb. Yeah,
there's there is a lot of good to be seen there,
and you're actually right, like his almost at his scramble around,
make the crazy play. There's just there's been a lot
of passes that have been way off that I've just

(36:43):
been like.

Speaker 2 (36:44):
What is That's not Caleb Williams. He's going to figure
it out. Okay, I think he's gonna figure it. That's
what I needed to have the team. Okay, Like what
team am I out on? And at this point it's
like obvious, But think of think of what did you
think of the Cleveland Browns heading into this year? You
think you maybe think that they're an eight nine win team? Right?

Speaker 1 (37:00):
I like their head coach. I think Stefan is good.

Speaker 2 (37:04):
I currently hate everything about them, including their coaching.

Speaker 1 (37:09):
Unfortunately, they are handcuffed by one of the worst contracts
in sports.

Speaker 2 (37:13):
Is the worst, I think is the worst in sports history.
And I think they you know what, I think they're
gonna get out of it and they're gonna get out
of it. By something's gonna come up. And I think
they're gonna get out of it. That's how bad this
because they can't get out of it. And do you
really think that the Cleveland Browns are just gonna let

(37:34):
this ride for the next three years?

Speaker 1 (37:35):
Can't.

Speaker 2 (37:36):
No, there's gonna be there's gonna be some like, oh,
look at this another bad loss. I don't know. That's
a conspiracy theory. Don't want to get into it.

Speaker 1 (37:47):
The Browns.

Speaker 2 (37:47):
Before you get head into this year, you think, oh,
the Browns are an eight nine win team that are
competing for a wild card. And you know, maybe if
Joe Burrow gets hurt and the Ravens take a step back,
maybe they compete for the division. Maybe that is that
is an August take for a lot of people. And
instead of Kevin Stefanski as Kevin Stefanski has kind of
came up through the ranks as head coach for the

(38:09):
Cleveland Browns, Nick Chubb offensive line, run the ball, you
would put them in the same conversation with the Baltimore
Ravens the San Francisco forty nine ers, where these teams
are gonna run the damn ball, and they're gonna be
good at it, not just not just run it for
the sake of running it. We're gonna run it and
we're gonna be afishing at it too. And for Deshaun Watson,

(38:32):
they have changed everything. They have gone away from the right.
Kevin Sevansky has gone away from his identity as a
head coach for what kind of got him here, for
the sake of we are going to abandon the run.
We're going to throw the ball. We're gonna throw it
out of eleven personnel. We're going to change our identity
as a team completely for the sake of we want
Deshaun Watson to be successful. And it has failed failed.

Speaker 1 (38:56):
Right, But at a certain point, and I agree with you,
I mean, I think Stefanski snaps. I mean, this is
a decision that's probably out of his hands, right because
otherwise we would have seen another quarterback by now.

Speaker 2 (39:09):
They're gonna eventually, even if before Deshaun Watson is not
on the Cleve Browns, I think they are going to
eventually go to Jamis.

Speaker 1 (39:17):
Got Jamis dtr did some things in college and at
least would be would be more dynamic than DeShawn at
this point. I just saw Nick Chubb return to practice,
so hey, maybe we'll see a different Browns team in
a couple of weeks. But no, I'm with you, and
I I where I like Stefanski and I realize you're

(39:37):
not happy with him right now, and I understand did
the Browns were the biggest joke of a sports franchise
and they have not for the past three years. Like
you just said, you expected the Cleveland Browns to be
I don't know, an eight nine win team. For years
the Browns were three wins.

Speaker 2 (39:54):
I was just expected.

Speaker 1 (39:55):
And Stefanski has brought a level of stability to that
organization that I I do respect out of.

Speaker 2 (40:00):
Him, which he probably will.

Speaker 1 (40:01):
He's playing with some bad tools in his toolbox right now.

Speaker 2 (40:05):
Offensive line is terrible. The defense has slightly regressed from
where it's at last year. But that's the issue, is
that the defense was so good last year. They were
so nuts so last year that it did help carry
what was not a good offense to good places. And
now that the defense has slightly regressed, Miles Garrett struggling
with some injuries. You see kind of where they're at.

Speaker 1 (40:25):
Anything else you need to get off your chest. No,
and you mentioned NFC South champion at the end of
the year. Give some Eagles hate.

Speaker 2 (40:38):
This is what the Eagles that you see on Sundays,
the ones that are good one week and then bad
the next. That's who the That's who the Philadelphia Eagles are.
I think they're gonna win. They could win ten games
this year and Nick Sirianni's gone. Here's what I'll leave
you with. Okay, the frustration that I had off camera
about the Giants, and this is NFC East related. You

(41:00):
see how good the Commanders are. The Giants in their
matchup against the Commanders scored three touchdowns and the Commanders
scored zero. The Giants wound up losing that game. The
Cowboys are a very vulnerable team, extremely vulnerable, like they
for the first time in a long time. You look
up and down that roster. They don't have a lot
of good football players. There are some very good FOOTBA players,
but they don't have a lot of good football players.

(41:20):
They're a vulnerable team. The Philadelphia Eagles feel like a
team that could win nine ten games this year and
fire their head coach. And my New York Football Giants
are one in three when they easily can be two
and two and maybe even three in one, and I'm
mad at that. I'm very mad at that in a
year where if the commanders of the hot story the

(41:42):
Giants played a better game than them, a better football
game than them, and the Giants had the Cowboys right
on the ropes, a vulnerable team that's hurt, and instead
we're one and three and I'm just hoping and praying
that it doesn't spin out of control.

Speaker 1 (41:59):
Well, that's it, panic. You know, I rooted the best
for your g men. Had a good time at the
tailgate the other day.

Speaker 2 (42:05):
Yes, thank you for and you're.

Speaker 1 (42:07):
Just welcome to jump on this bo Nix hype train
whenever you're ready.

Speaker 2 (42:11):
And two three way time for second place in the
AFC West.

Speaker 1 (42:16):
I'm not ready to talk about Their pass rush is good, though,
Can I tell you that? Yeah, that we played defense
in Denver? We have for a long time, by n
for a long time, the Denver Broncos have played defense.
The offense has just been an odd scale of broken
for coming up on a decade.

Speaker 2 (42:36):
You can't believe they won that football game.

Speaker 1 (42:38):
I can't. I can That's every game at MetLife that's
ever happened. Okay, close your eyes. What's the weather at
MetLife and rainy?

Speaker 2 (42:50):
Toots's windy and.

Speaker 1 (42:52):
It's tough to kick past forty yards. One team will
score single digits. I'm still even though the Broncos one,
I'm still very happy I did not attend that game.

Speaker 2 (43:04):
Oh I should have. No, it's just a bad day'
seen your Bronx. Go two and two.

Speaker 1 (43:10):
