and the results.

Speaker 4 (01:04):
Todd in the NFC.

Speaker 5 (01:06):
I would take the Lions or the field, and the
field had seventy six percent, the Lions twenty four.

Speaker 2 (01:12):
All right, Our two pole question, Our two.

Speaker 4 (01:15):
Pole question, will be.

Speaker 5 (01:16):
Should Pete Rose ever be allowed into the Hall of
Fame posthumously.

Speaker 3 (01:20):
Okay, I say no, if you're going to put him in,
put him in before this. I just think it sounds
kind of cruel that, you know, he served a lifetime ban.
Basically what he was told is you can't hold a
job in baseball. The Hall of Fame never said don't
put him on the ballot. This was pretty much baseball saying,

(01:43):
you know, being Drekconian and saying, no, he's not going
to be eligible for the Hall of Fame. If you're
not eligible to be part of Major League Baseball, you're
not going to be eligible to be on the ballot.
But should he be in there, Yes, because of what
he did as a baseball player, what he did as
a manager is the reason.

Speaker 2 (02:01):
Why he's not going to get into the Hall of Fame.

Speaker 3 (02:04):
Johnny Bench will join us coming up next hour to
talk about his former teammate who passed away at the
age of eighty three. Watching the Lions last night, you
got to see glimpses of what they can be offensively.
Jared Goff goes eighteen for eighteen two touchdowns, caught a
touchdown pass as well, and you're I think people still

(02:28):
aren't quite sure about the Lions. They were one half
away from being in the Super Bowl last year. They're
up twenty four to seven. Then they puckered up. Then
halftime happened. If they could have said, no, we're going
to wave off halftime, we want to start in the
third quarter, they would have been in the super Bowl.
They had their moment. Sometimes you see teams that get

(02:51):
to that moment and then it takes them a while to.

Speaker 2 (02:54):
Break through a glass ceiling.

Speaker 3 (02:56):
We've seen that with players teams down through history a
lot in the NBA, the Pistons could never get by
the Celtics, or the Bulls couldn't get by the Pistons,
and then once you do that, then you never look back.
In the NFL, it's a little bit different trying to
keep a great team dynasty together. It's a little easier
keeping your team a starting five in the NBA. But

(03:18):
with the Lions, you know, here's a quiet thing. Ben Johnson,
offensive coordinator with the Lions, had opportunities, I think with
a variety of teams. Now he did want a lot
of money, probably a lot of control, but they kept
their offensive coordinator and normally when teams are successful, then
their coordinators go on to become head coaches. But the

(03:39):
Lions kept Ben Johnson, who will have his opportunities to
be a head coach in the off season. Jamison Williams
is finally playing. He had kind of like a year
and a half off where there was the gambling suspension.
He was injured as a rookie. But he's you know,
throw him in there with the long line of Alabama received.

(04:01):
He is a guy who can go deep. I'm on
Ross Saint Brown, Sam Laporta. You got Jamar Gibbs like
you have running back. You got the full Arsenal there.
Penny Seoul is a you know, perhaps a Hall of
Fame lineman here. But the Lions are a really good team,
dangerous team. The question is what did they learn from

(04:22):
last year that will help that. That's why I always
look at the like the Cowboys when they get to
the postseason, what did they learn from the previous years?
When they get to the postseason. The Baltimore Ravens, when
you get to the postseason, did you learn anything from
last year that's going to help you? That's what you
want out of a team. They figured it out. It's

(04:42):
like Kansas City had a brutal loss to Tom Brady
and the Patriots in the AFC title game. They learned
and they haven't looked back. And that's what you want
with great potential here and hopefully the Lions, you know,
live up to that potential this year. We'll get phone
calls coming up eight seven to seven three DP show.

(05:03):
We did play a portion of an interview when I
had Pete on the show. This was July and twenty thirteen,
and everything's available go to Danpatrick dot com. I don't
want Pete to take over the show because yes, he
passed away, but nothing has changed. I've told you my stories,
my interactions. That's why I was going to have Johnny

(05:25):
Bench on. Maybe we could just get some stories about Pete.
Everybody has an opinion on Pete, and nobody's changing their
opinion on Pete. Major League Baseball is not Cooper'stown is not.
And once again, Cooper'stown is a separate entity, privately owned,
has nothing to do with Major League Baseball. They're not

(05:47):
governed by them. There's no authority that is governing the
Hall of Fame. They want to put Pete on the ballot.
They can put Pete on the ballot. But if you
put Pete on the ballot, do then put Bunds back
on the ballot. You know, we're saying, hey, yes, performance
enhancing drugs, but they still can go in the Hall

(06:09):
of Fame and we are going to note that on
their plaque.

Speaker 2 (06:13):
Which I'm fine with. It's a museum.

Speaker 3 (06:16):
How many times have you gone into a museum and
you go, oh, I'm not going to look at that exhibit.
You know, Attila the Hunt was a bad guy.

Speaker 2 (06:25):
You don't do that.

Speaker 3 (06:26):
But baseball, you know, it's it's Americana, and it's it's
in our blood or DNA. You know, it affects us differently,
our player, our team. With Pete, do you want to
put him in there, do you want to have a
plaque that really details who he.

Speaker 2 (06:44):
Is or was?

Speaker 3 (06:47):
Then great, I'm fine with that because really this is
about the fan, not me, a get off the line guy,
it's not you. But if you want him in there,
then do something about it, because then they're going to
listen to you, the fan. I can have my opinion,
it's just one opinion. But if the fans say we

(07:10):
want Pete and go through the proper channels if you
truly want him, because nothing has changed from today that
didn't exist two days ago, nothing other than sentiment. And
I can't ride on sentiment to say, now let's put
him in. Either put him in before have the designation

(07:31):
of what he did as a manager betting on baseball.
But as a player, we can all agree he's one
of the greatest players of all time.

Speaker 6 (07:40):
Yeah, Pauline, if you're trying to make the case the
other side that he should have been in the Hall
of Fame already or should go in now, you know
his crimes against baseball were as a manager. His playing
career is impeccable, has not been accused publicly of anything.
He would be voted as a player, his managerial career
would have nothing to do with the ballot. It's another

(08:00):
chip in his favor, and it's always been a chip
in his face.

Speaker 3 (08:03):
And I brought this up to Bud Seely, and I said, Commissioner,
did he cheat as a baseball player? Did he gamble
as a baseball player? And I just feel like there's
more information there that Major League Baseball did not reveal.
But I got an official no, like in a conversation

(08:23):
with the commissioner. But I it's just my gut feeling,
is I think there's a paper trail that Pete bet
when he was a player. I don't think you start gambling.
I don't think so, not like that. And Pete, Pete
bet on everything. Pete had one of those big satellite

(08:44):
dishes in the backyard. Have you seen you remember how
big those things? I mean it was huge in the eighties.
And I just he would, you know, be able to
watch like the Vancouver Canucks were playing and Pete had
put something down. I mean, that's when you know you've
got you've got problems. But Pete, if he watched it,

(09:04):
he had to bet on it, and and he was.
He was not a good gambler, not at all all right,
So the hour and two pole question, should Pete be
allowed in.

Speaker 2 (09:15):
The Hall of Fame posthumous?

Speaker 7 (09:17):
Yes?

Speaker 3 (09:17):
Okay, okay, it's absolutely or no way. Those are the responses.

Speaker 4 (09:22):
These choices are yes and nope. Should Peter.

Speaker 2 (09:27):
Wait, it's not even no, it's just no.

Speaker 4 (09:29):
I want to a dress up a little bit.

Speaker 8 (09:31):
Yes and no.

Speaker 4 (09:31):
This is gonna be yes and nope.

Speaker 6 (09:33):
I've always found that nope is a stronger no, like
are you helping me? Are you giving me a ride
of the airport? Nope? Nope, that's like or noah Nah,
there's open for a discussion.

Speaker 3 (09:44):
Yeah, because Todd will say, hey, what about this, guess,
and I'll go nah, I come back.

Speaker 7 (09:48):
Yeah.

Speaker 4 (09:48):
I like the nas better than the no. No sounds
harsh and like, why would you even think we would do?

Speaker 3 (09:54):
I have put nope down and then I put a
smiley face after that.

Speaker 4 (09:57):
Do need the smiley face?

Speaker 7 (09:58):
Yes?

Speaker 4 (09:59):
Because I always read it as much more harsh than
it should be.

Speaker 3 (10:01):
That it will be like, you know, you kind of reacted,
you know, like you're angry.

Speaker 4 (10:07):
I'll share with my wife. No, Like why did I
even waste his time suggesting that guess?

Speaker 2 (10:12):
Yes?

Speaker 6 (10:12):
Yes, So if we're ranking no or a negative response,
nah means you're open to discussion. No is a standard
now and nope is is like, I know, with a
little bit more sauce to it.

Speaker 3 (10:24):
Yeah, the p in there that that's that's where it's
like nope, where it's nation.

Speaker 2 (10:32):
Yes, that's true.

Speaker 9 (10:33):
It's like it's like the nicer way of saying hell.

Speaker 2 (10:36):
No, yeah, nope, nah.

Speaker 9 (10:40):
Nah whenever you say nah in our group chat.

Speaker 3 (10:42):
Yeah, I was thinking of yeah, well, okay, I do
that specifically for Todd. I do so when Todd is,
you know, sending around the group text of what do
you think of this guy? And I know if I
say nope or no, that it's ounds harsh, but I
don't mean it that way. I'll be like, you know,

(11:03):
I'm doing other things, and Todd will say hey, what
about and I'll go.

Speaker 4 (11:07):
Nah, I'm a much bigger fan of any Ah.

Speaker 3 (11:09):
Yeah, I know, and so I I do. I'm trying
to be responsible and understand your feelings.

Speaker 4 (11:14):
I appreciate Nah.

Speaker 2 (11:16):
Nope, yes, but.

Speaker 6 (11:18):
I look at Nah as we got one more swing here,
but we have to make our case. Yes, yeah, that's
how I look at Nah from you.

Speaker 3 (11:25):
Yeah, Like, before you say nope, let me let me
give you a reason why I think we should have
this person.

Speaker 4 (11:32):
Oh, it gives me a different levels.

Speaker 10 (11:33):
Sometimes I'll get a no, which I take as harsh
or not for me, which is like, the other guys are.

Speaker 4 (11:38):
Interested, but my vote is we don't need that one.

Speaker 6 (11:40):
I think that's fair though, because sometimes a guest is
not really something I'm thinking works. But I'm open to
the opinions of the room.

Speaker 3 (11:46):
Yeah, John in Chicago, Hey John, what's on your mind today?

Speaker 7 (11:52):
Hey Dan?

Speaker 11 (11:55):
The reason why I'm calling is about the Hall of Fame.
Is if you're gonna let these guys in, you should
put an asterix on. And with p Rose, isn't there
already something in the Hall of Fame with him where
you could go see him? And if you're letting these
coaches in, like Tony LaRussa, Bobby Cox, Joe Torri, these
are coaches that knew they're players in the locker room
that were doing steroids, and in twenty fourteen, you put

(12:18):
all these guys in, So you should for the game
put these players like Bonds Clemens in my opinion, in,
but just put an asterisk next to it, because it
did evolve a game, and it gave all these writers
who probably never even played the game something to talk
about from nineteen ninety six to two thousand and four.

Speaker 3 (12:34):
Well, but there's no lifetime ban for steroids that there
is for gambling. And look, do I think managers had
to know? Yes, of course they did. Did they look
the other way? Of course they did it. I just
don't want to go down the rabbit hole here. You
want to put Pete in, you want to put an

(12:54):
asterisk by whatever you want to do, it's up to you.
It's you the people with this, not me. I mean
you want to tell that I was there for the
steroid Aaron? Okay, I did see greatness. At times, I
couldn't differentiate between what was real and not. Did baseball

(13:18):
benefit from this?

Speaker 2 (13:18):
Yes? Were we entertained by this?

Speaker 3 (13:20):
Yes, if that's something you can overlook with I'll always
go back to this, Just so you know, we've talked
about this many times. Whenever I think of the steroid guys,
I think of one person, Hank Aaron, because Hank Aaron
should be the all time home run king, not Barry Bonds.

(13:43):
You ever met Hank Aaron. He just had strong hands,
strong wrist. He was not a big guy at all.
His performance enhancement was probably milk. I don't like to
see these other players who benefit. They cheated the game,
They cheated. His stats used to be important. They're not anymore.

(14:06):
But that's why. I mean, I loved seeing Otani and
Aaron judge, and I hope that there's never a cloud
of suspicion with them.

Speaker 2 (14:17):
So I mean, he did Otani did?

Speaker 3 (14:21):
Have you know there was a cloud that was there
with the gambling situation, and you know what, I don't
know if we really.

Speaker 2 (14:29):
Have the full story about that.

Speaker 3 (14:31):
And nobody wants shoe Hey Otani to be a part
of this in a negative way. Nobody wants that. Major
League Baseball is like, investigation's over. Great, Fine, that was
a quick investigation, like a rain certain game.

Speaker 2 (14:44):
Yeah, yeah, yes, Marv.

Speaker 12 (14:46):
We remember in March when all this was going down,
right at the beginning of the season, we were all like,
this is the worst case scenario. This is the one
guy and maybe sports that you don't want to see
getting any type of trouble. And it was happening opening weekend.

Speaker 3 (15:01):
Yeah, he's in Korea and he's got his interpreter there
and next thing you know, they fly back and all
hell breaks loose and then all of a sudden we
found the depths of that. We still haven't figured that out.
I'm just saying because whenever I had to bet, I

(15:23):
had to have the money ready to go. And if
you have millions and millions and millions of dollars, the
bank is going to there's red flags that come up. Hey,
I know this isn't the day to get into it,
but you know, when you start to deal with this logic,
some kind sometimes takes a day off of just you can't.

(15:47):
You can't have somebody bet that kind of money and
not have a red flag or not know where the
money is coming from. Millions of dollars. Somebody had to
know other than just an interpreter. Yes, mar I'll bet
Pete Rose real quick.

Speaker 12 (16:01):
So if Pete Rose gets into the Hall of Fame
right now, isn't that just a pr disaster for the
Baseball Hall of Fame?

Speaker 9 (16:09):
Like, wait, now you're doing it. You have thirty years
and he can't even I.

Speaker 3 (16:13):
Don't you know what if I'm the Hall of Fame,
I would say, let's put him on the ballot. Increase
tourism up there, Pete. You know they're gonna want to
go see Pete's plaque. Maybe his son gets up there
and gives his speech. I know Baseball might have been
nervous about having Pete get in the Hall of Fame.
And then Pete gets up there and nobody's gonna censor him.

(16:35):
He's able to say whatever he wants when he gets
up you know, for that Hall of Fame speech. Maybe
I don't know, but I don't want them I don't
want them to do it posthumously. You either do it
when he's alive or you don't do it. But that's
why the outpouring of sentiment. It doesn't sway me. Can

(16:55):
Is there a loophole you can put him in as
a baseball player, Yes, but they chose not to. All right,
we'll take you a break. Herm Edward's going to join us.
HERM former coach, and in fact, you coached Jayden Daniels.
We thought it'd be fun to talk to him about
what he's seen from Jaden the first four games of
the season. Also what we saw last night. Is there

(17:17):
a way to solve the Miami Dolphins situation? We're back

joins us. Good morning, Zane, what's on your mind today?

Speaker 13 (17:57):
Hey Bud, Hey, as a native Nashville and Titans fan,
I want to apologize for that game last night.

Speaker 7 (18:04):
Man, it amazes me that no.

Speaker 13 (18:06):
Matter how many gms, how many coaches, how many offensive
coordinators the Titan has gone through the last I don't
know twenty years, that the team can look exactly the same.
If you turned that game on last night, if I
didn't know any better, I would have said, oh hey, look,
Jeff Fisher and Aldel Grooker are having a great game tonight.
It's I think maybe Cleveland and sorry Pauly, maybe Chicago

(18:30):
or like you, just the teams look the same.

Speaker 14 (18:33):
No matter what.

Speaker 7 (18:33):
It's really frustrating.

Speaker 14 (18:34):
So sorry NF donation.

Speaker 2 (18:37):
And that's after a win, Thank you, zam.

Speaker 3 (18:39):
Imagine if it was just a standalone game, that's what
you You know, you have the doubleheader, so if a
game's not good, then you just go, oh, okay, the
Lions are on, they're entertaining. But if you were just
watching that game last night, it was tough. It's tough
to watch. Yes, Marvin, are the Titans the most real event?

(19:00):
Team in the NFL, like where it's just whether they're
good or not. They just don't move the needle.

Speaker 2 (19:07):
No, they don't. And it's weird.

Speaker 3 (19:09):
Every time I watch a game, it feels like they
end up with a crooked number.

Speaker 2 (19:13):
I get that.

Speaker 3 (19:14):
It's nevereen sixteen. Yes, it's never twenty eight to twenty four.
It's it's always like twenty two to eighteen.

Speaker 6 (19:24):
There's always a five in there.

Speaker 2 (19:25):
It's just you just gon't.

Speaker 8 (19:27):
I don't.

Speaker 2 (19:27):
I don't know this. It's just weird. The way they
play football. Is Herm Edwards there.

Speaker 3 (19:33):
He is the ESPN football analyst and of course former
defensive back. We were just wondering this, Herm. You gave
us the famous slogan you play to win the game?

Speaker 2 (19:45):
Did you copyright that?

Speaker 7 (19:47):
Have not? So it's open for use.

Speaker 2 (19:50):
Okay, you can. You can do T shirts, you know.

Speaker 7 (19:54):
I know I've been told that. I keep saying I'm
gonna do that, but I haven't done it yet.

Speaker 3 (19:59):
So if I gave you the Lions or the field
today in the NFC, in the NFC, who are you
taking well?

Speaker 7 (20:07):
The way they played last night, especially the second half.
I mean, this was the game that when you watch it.
The first half was a regular NFL game, you know,
seven it's twenty one, Okay, it's kind of and then
the second half it was twenty three to twenty eight,
and I'm going, that's just that's like, that's like a
whole NFL game in one half. I mean, the yardage
was unbelievable. And Jared Golf, I mean, as good as

(20:30):
he was, he only he only threw it like eighteen times. Yeah,
he didn't throw it a lot, you know, explosive offense
with those two running backs. He really played good and
they played good in that Dome as well. But but
I kind of like the Lions, but you don't want
to kind of leave them home. I hate to see this.
I'm falling into the trap with the Minnesota Vikings right now.

(20:52):
I'm falling into the trap.

Speaker 4 (20:53):
Okay.

Speaker 7 (20:55):
I keep saying I don't want to do it, I
don't trust him, and then he keeps trueing me wrong.
So they're pretty good right now, the Vikings.

Speaker 2 (21:02):
That's September football. We're talking about her.

Speaker 7 (21:05):
Yeah, I know, only in September. I know, you have
me back like it the end of November.

Speaker 3 (21:17):
It feels like there's always one or two or three
teams that surprise us each year. I thought at the
beginning of the year the Falcons and the Commanders were
going to be the surprise teams, at least the two
of them. You you coached Jaden Daniels and at Arizona State.
I guess you're not surprised. What's your reaction to what

(21:38):
you've seen through the first month?

Speaker 7 (21:41):
Reminded me when I had him there. You know, I
talk to him every week, even now when he when
he left, and obviously you know, through the nl I
and all that stuff with the l s U, I
will talk to him every week and still do not
surprising at all. The game is never too big for him.
And then you know, and I told you this for

(22:02):
he reminds me a lot of random cunning in and
I told him that when he's playing for me, he's
about the same height, the same size, can throw the
long ball very well.

Speaker 8 (22:12):
Uh.

Speaker 7 (22:12):
And now the more he plays, obviously the speed of
the game is just all of a sudden slowing down
for him some. But he's got this team with you know,
he's giving him a hope all of a sudden. Washington,
if you'd have told me at the end of four
weeks that the Washington Commanders are in first place into
the NFC East, I would go, now, really with a rookie.

Speaker 3 (22:34):
Quarterback, does it concern you or how much does the
running with Jayden concern you?

Speaker 7 (22:41):
Well, you know, and that's always been a concern because
he's not the biggest guy. But he's become a smarter runner.
And that was kind of the conversation. I would have
put him all the time. And I said, look, you
got to know when the journey's over. And I said,
you're going to learn how to fly, because he hated fly.
You want to fly? You and I for the last
week the week before he didn't slide, So like I

(23:03):
get on him. I said, man, start sliding. That's in
the NFL. They're going to hit you. Let said, you
gotta be available ever play.

Speaker 3 (23:11):
Yeah, I see RG three situation here where you have
that speed and RG three didn't slide. He was taken
on defenders. And you know, I just I always say,
you know, on the show live to see another play.
You don't have to be a hero at that position.
It's like Tua got injured. He didn't need to be

(23:34):
in that situation.

Speaker 7 (23:35):
Oh no, No, that was just silly. It was almost.
It was almost. His injury was one of those. He
was trying to be tough. You don't have to be tough.
Just finish the game. That's your job, quarterback. You start
the game, finish the game.

Speaker 3 (23:48):
I respect tough, but I don't want my quarterback to
have to prove he's tough. I need smart. There's nothing
wrong with sliding fetal position. All of those Peyton manning
you want to hello Peyton's script, just fall in a
fetal position. You don't have to go after the guy
who picks you off.

Speaker 7 (24:06):
No, no, and you know, and that's what they pay
you for. They pay you to start the game, to
finish the game. When when you don't finish games, that's
a bad omen for your football team.

Speaker 3 (24:17):
He's Sir Edwards, ESPN Football analyst. The Dolphins situation not
having a legitimate backup quarterback. I've been railing on the Dolphins.
I just I wouldn't have signed Tua, said that prior
to it. But if I do sign him, I have
to have a backup who knows the system, can run
the system, and not bringing in somebody off somebody else's

(24:39):
practice squad.

Speaker 2 (24:40):
How did the Dolphins salvage this.

Speaker 7 (24:44):
Well. I thought even last night, I said, you know
they you know, they might be okay, you know he's
played some and they have all these weapons. No, it's
supposed to play in this offensive. Yeah, I said, where
are the plays? I mean, they still have the skilled talent.
He got them the ball. But I think people are
defending him a little bit different now. You know, they're

(25:06):
defending them in the way where we'll let you throw
it east and west, but you're not going to hit
the scenes going north and south on our defenses anymore.
And that's where all the explosive plays came from. And
now all of a sudden, you don't see plays over
twenty yards with these gas.

Speaker 3 (25:23):
Yeah, but I can get the ball to Tyreek Hill
off the line of scrimmage and then let you know
him do his magic.

Speaker 2 (25:30):
Him and Jail.

Speaker 3 (25:30):
They're not even getting him the ball. And that's what's true.

Speaker 7 (25:36):
But I think the way they're trying to throw them
the ball before. You know, this team was quick hitting.
It was they attacked the middle of the field. Their
passing game was inside the numbers. Yeah, they were smart
because you know where they're attacking the linebackers and strong safeties.
They didn't attack the corners a whole lot unless they
went vertical. Everything else was five yard passes across the

(25:58):
middle of the field. Well, who's in there. It's the
big it's the linebackers and strong safeties. And now all
of a sudden, when people have done, they're stacking the
box on him where they can't get those scenes and
they're throwing the ball outside and they're not getting the
yards that they had before in the past.

Speaker 2 (26:13):
Yeah, that's a great point. Great point. The Eagles situation
is weird.

Speaker 7 (26:19):
Oh right, what don't even start there?

Speaker 2 (26:24):
What do you make of this?

Speaker 7 (26:25):
Though? You know the hangover they had last year, it
hadn't gone away. It's the same team, Dan, it's the
same team. Look, this was a team two years ago
they had seventy sacks. They got five. Right now, they
got a young secondary that's not very good.

Speaker 2 (26:42):
They're vulnerable.

Speaker 7 (26:43):
Their offense basically the first two weeks was sa kuon Barklay,
and I thought, well, maybe got a chance. The receivers
get hurt Hurst in the last two years and turn
the ball over twenty seven times. I mean, there's no
rhythm to this offense. And defensively they're one of the
poorest in the league right now.

Speaker 3 (27:02):
Uh. The Jaguars situation that uh probably not gonna end well,
but they just like they haven't improved the last couple
of years.

Speaker 7 (27:13):
Her it's head scratching with Trevor Lawrence. I mean, this
kid is a talented guy. Doug Peterson is a good
football coach. And when I watched him at the press
conference and he says, we we gotta, we gotta fix
it was it was almost like he was saying, I
don't know how to fix this, and he was almost

(27:35):
that I don't know how to fix this bad. I mean,
it's this was a team two years ago, you know,
everyone was saying, well, they're gonna win the styles and
the Texans with a rookie quarterback and the first year
head coach, they win it and they gonna turn around
and win it again. The Jaguars are just playing. They're
a bad football team right now.

Speaker 3 (27:53):
Yeah, he's Herm Edwards, ESPN football analyst. He played to
win the game. To talk to you again, Herm, thanks
for joining us. Played to win the game. Didn't trademark it.
It sounds like it's ours all in favor And yeah,

(28:14):
I mean yeah, okay, thank you. Oh I we kept
in Nashville. Hi kept what's on your mind?

Speaker 7 (28:23):
Hey? Good morning.

Speaker 3 (28:24):
Uh.

Speaker 15 (28:25):
As a displaced Miami Dolphins man living in Nashville, I
need to apologize for that last night. And also I'm
just thankful that there was something else to watch because
that was sad.

Speaker 7 (28:39):
My Dolphins is sad, and.

Speaker 14 (28:43):
I have no other words.

Speaker 3 (28:48):
Thank you, Kip, well, at least you're laughing. No Manning
cast last night. I knew that wasn't going to be pretty,
but I thought, okay, let me watch Will Levis and
then he gets injured early diving for the first down.

Speaker 2 (29:01):
I mean it looked good on TV, like wow.

Speaker 8 (29:04):
I just.

Speaker 3 (29:07):
If I'm a quarterback, I have to teach myself you
don't have to run. You know every time, there's nothing
wrong with going out of bounds. There's nothing wrong with sliding.
I remember when Frank o'harris is the first player I
remember by design running out of bounds and all we

(29:27):
couldn't believe it.

Speaker 2 (29:29):
What are you running out of bounds for?

Speaker 7 (29:31):
Well?

Speaker 3 (29:34):
As I look, he won four Super Bowls, one of
the great runners of all time, stayed healthy, had one
of the greatest plays in NFL playoff.

Speaker 2 (29:43):
History, and he was smart. It's like, you get hit enough,
I'm going to go out of bounds.

Speaker 3 (29:50):
He was probably getting roughed up in practice going against
the steel curtain.

Speaker 2 (29:55):
He decided to run out of bounds.

Speaker 3 (29:58):
Like, looking back on it, we're the idiots. We're like,
what do you got to lower your head? You got
to take on that defender.

Speaker 6 (30:04):
Yeah, there's some that are really unnecessary. Remember that one
maybe four years ago when Jimmy Garoppolo years ago, was
that an early season game where I don't know what
it was and he was on his way out of
bounds and decided just to like dig into the defensive
back and next thing he's out.

Speaker 2 (30:20):
Yeah, I think it was early in the season.

Speaker 6 (30:22):
Yeah, that, like you guys keep saying, the Tour one
was completely avoidable.

Speaker 2 (30:28):
He didn't have to be tough. You're not tough.

Speaker 6 (30:31):
They need you healthy. That's that's It's okay, I got
a touchdown run.

Speaker 2 (30:35):
Yeah.

Speaker 12 (30:36):
I need quarterbacks doing as little football activities as possible.

Speaker 9 (30:42):
For the ball.

Speaker 6 (30:43):
Remember when Peyton Manning would throw an interception and he
would jog towards the area and he would kind of
like shade the guy to like maybe he'll cut back
and a guy the other guy can get him. That's
smart business.

Speaker 3 (30:55):
Uh, let's get Barry from Santa Fe out of the way,
going had Congratulations, you guys are in the playoffs.

Speaker 2 (31:04):
Oh, come to me. Man's Matt's Man's Man's man.

Speaker 8 (31:14):
No, no, no, Dan and Fritzy as our people would say,
Oh you might Kiskus. What a game yesterday? The never
say die Mets, as Roth's Tucker would say, showed Jones.

Speaker 4 (31:29):
I'm back.

Speaker 2 (31:31):
Well, look, I mean you this is you paid for this?

Speaker 4 (31:34):
What?

Speaker 2 (31:34):
What's your payroll? Three hundred and thirty million dollars?

Speaker 3 (31:37):
Congratulations you got in as a wild card team?

Speaker 8 (31:42):
What about Yeah? I think the Dodgers may have a
slightly higher payroll. I think the Yankees might have a
slightly higher payroll.

Speaker 3 (31:50):
And who has a better chance of winning the World Series?
The Dodgers, Yankees or the Mets.

Speaker 7 (31:58):
Oh the Yankees.

Speaker 3 (31:59):
Okay, all right, so they spent wisely. The Mets. You know,
you had an owner who just thought you'd just buy this.

Speaker 8 (32:09):
Uh. Yeah, they're in the playoffs.

Speaker 15 (32:11):
Yay.

Speaker 3 (32:13):
How about a round of applause for the Mets. Finer
three d and thirty million dollars. Todd A you're going
to sing the theme song.

Speaker 4 (32:23):
I remember the old Let's Go Mets f.

Speaker 3 (32:28):
Yeah, it doesn't work with the Yankees. All right, Well
take break. More phone calls coming up. Also, we hand
out the NFL sept MVP and the sept tem the
sept Thiseman Heisman.

Speaker 6 (32:46):
You can either go sept Heisman or Septizement if you're
so bad.

Speaker 3 (32:49):
Joe Thiseman scept Heisman, and the sept MVP. We'll hand
those out next.

Speaker 1 (32:57):
Be sure to catch the live edition of The Dan
Patrick Show week days at nine am Eastern six am
Pacific on Fox Sports Radio and the iHeartRadio WAP.

Speaker 3 (33:07):
Time for the NFL septem VP courtesy of Earth Wind
and Fire. They're still performing, I think, aren't they.

Speaker 9 (33:17):
They were just in Connecticut maybe about two months ago.

Speaker 3 (33:20):
Oh that's right. I said to my wife, I want
to go see Earth Wind and Fire again. I think
I saw them in the mid seventies and the Commodores.
Oh yeah, yeah, Prime, Yeah, yes, Pauline.

Speaker 6 (33:33):
I got them back in uh not far from us,
December eighteenth, Dan, Okay, I'll keep an eye on.

Speaker 10 (33:38):
That for okay, yes, yes, John, Are they on the
main stage? I hope not that kind of main stage,
but sometimes you're in the wolf Den at Mohican.

Speaker 5 (33:44):
Sudi went, like in one of those lounges where as
long as you're buy a drink or two, they're kind
of performing for.

Speaker 2 (33:48):
A small Why are you doing this?

Speaker 4 (33:50):
Is that being a hater?

Speaker 2 (33:51):
Yes, that's true though even Hall and Oates.

Speaker 5 (33:53):
Eventually, if they ever performed again, they'd probably be like
a little lounge act on the side.

Speaker 2 (33:57):
No, they wouldn't.

Speaker 3 (33:59):
You have an innate ability to be a Buzzkill's term
today you are really good at it. You'll find the
negative in any story.

Speaker 4 (34:11):
Eventually you're like, oh, they're still kind of singing. I
went in.

Speaker 5 (34:13):
There's like a group of thirty eight people like you know,
by a curtains sorry adp.

Speaker 9 (34:18):
He said, earth Wind Fire at the wolf End like
it was coloring me bead.

Speaker 3 (34:22):
Wow, I know now they're taking straight. But this is
this is what Todd does. This is why we can't
just be happy and have nice things.

Speaker 4 (34:30):
Ninety eight degrees and earth Wind and Fire is coming
to all right here trick.

Speaker 3 (34:37):
Minimum SEPTEMVP NFL. Can I have some music?

Speaker 2 (34:41):
Please? Can I get some football music?

Speaker 3 (34:44):
Here?

Speaker 2 (34:44):
To drownd out Fritzy here we go.

Speaker 3 (34:50):
Seaton's not here today, but he is represented because he's
a professional. He sent his SEPTEMVP in Todd. I'm going
to start with you, Jayden Daniel, Shaden Daniels Sept MVP.

Speaker 2 (35:03):
All right, Marvin, Sam Donald, Paul Ester.

Speaker 6 (35:12):
Going off the Sam Donald train, a little Derrick Henry
riding the ship in Baltimore.

Speaker 2 (35:18):
Seaton septem VP.

Speaker 6 (35:21):
He also has Sam Donald, eleven touchdowns, three picks, and
career resurrection. Most people don't they just win ball games.
Resurrected is big time.

Speaker 3 (35:31):
No.

Speaker 2 (35:31):
I like that.

Speaker 3 (35:33):
My sept MVP, Sam Donald. Yeah, I don't know what
he gets. Maybe a parking spot, better parking spot, but uh,
maybe we can get an order. Maybe Panini could make
up a sept MVP card.

Speaker 2 (35:53):
You know what. Let's reach out to them, see if
they'll do that. Man, it's a little late now.

Speaker 6 (35:57):
Sam would appreciate it.

Speaker 3 (35:58):
Yeah, but a septemb peeve Sam Darnold and then maybe
they they mocked something up for us. That'd be great. Okay,
how about the sept heisman, the scept heisman. That was
a little tricky. It doesn't flowcept heman.

Speaker 10 (36:18):
Todd, who's your scept You're gonna accuse me of stealing
this from you, But I'm gonna still go with Travis
Hunter of the Colon Balows. Guy plays like every down
on both sides, and I know he does, so how
could he not be the guy?

Speaker 3 (36:32):
Jalen Milroe, Okay, Blue, a little recentcy bias there, Paul.

Speaker 6 (36:40):
Tough One. I was gonna give it to Arch Manning
so a Manning would get a Heisman. That's not nice. Uh,
I'm gonna go with Cam Moore to the Miami Hurricanes.
Seventy percent, seventeen hundred yards, eighteen touchdowns in a month.

Speaker 2 (37:02):
I know Seaton's sept Heisman he has.

Speaker 6 (37:07):
Jalen Milroll of Alabama, good call.

Speaker 3 (37:10):
I'm going with the Boise State running back Ashton Gentry. Yes,
what's he What's he got?

Speaker 7 (37:16):
Like?

Speaker 2 (37:17):
Fourteen touchdowns, eight hundred yards?

Speaker 6 (37:21):
Ashton gent has only eighty two carries eight hundred and
forty five yards. It's a first down when you give
it to him. He's got thirteen.

Speaker 3 (37:30):
Touch fourteen touchdowns. Yeah, all right, that's the sept Heisman.
As we spill over into the month of October, give
awards out.

Speaker 5 (37:40):
Yes, that was a reach by year, but that's cute.
What was the Boys of State running back? Why he's
not going to get it.

Speaker 10 (37:47):
That's not no, it's it's called this set. But even
for September that I don't see that.

Speaker 2 (37:52):
Okay, what are you doing? Are you doing this?

Speaker 7 (37:55):
Yeah?

Speaker 4 (37:56):
Okay, I'm poking the bear of them.

Speaker 12 (37:57):
Okay, what Marvin, I'm just going off by Fritzy just
being such a buzz kill.

Speaker 2 (38:02):
Right there, you go, just smack him, go back.

Speaker 10 (38:04):
I want to know what happens when Sam Donaldsy's ghosts
in London and all you've got Sam Donald and he's
the September it.

Speaker 2 (38:10):
Was based off of September.

Speaker 6 (38:12):
Yeah, it's not a future award, it's.

Speaker 3 (38:14):
This he you know, craps the bed in October, he
doesn't lose the MVP.

Speaker 4 (38:22):
I think you'll put the whammy on him.

Speaker 3 (38:23):
It's going to go Brad and Iowa joins his Hi,
Bradwood's on your mind today?

Speaker 14 (38:29):
Hi, Dan Brett six six three two seventy. I'm just
wondering if maybe just another way to look at Pete.
Maybe not hypocritical, but his sentence, his penalty was a
lifetime ban. Has he served his penalty? Is he free
to be looked at again? He's paid his debt.

Speaker 3 (38:51):
Well, I brought that up. If you want a loophole
that his life is over. So the lifetime ban, I
don't think major League Baseball in Cooper's town. We'll look
at it that way. This was he was just banned
from working in Major League baseball. He was declared permanently ineligible.
It's not called a lifetime ban. He was declared permanently ineligible.

(39:14):
He couldn't have a job in Major League baseball.

Speaker 2 (39:18):
Chris in California, Hi, Chris.

Speaker 16 (39:21):
Good morning Dad. Five Me Pillow, sophomore eighty soft. I
had a question pertaining with Pete Rose, since they gave
him his suspension, would it be possible for his family
to deny the Football Hall of Fame the use of

(39:41):
the nil because, like he stated, he said, it doesn't
do him any good on Gong So I was wondering,
what's your thoughts on network.

Speaker 3 (39:51):
I guess they could ask for that back. I don't
know if it was loan to the Hall of Fame.
All the Pete Rose memorabilia, and it was always tricky
to keep track of what was real because I think
even in the game where he broke the all time
hits record, I think he changed his uniform every inning,
and he was quite the business man. He was name,

(40:11):
image and likeness before most people. Yes, Paul, there is
a display.

Speaker 6 (40:16):
With Pete Rose and his hit record in the National
Baseball Hall of Fame, the most recent picture I can
find of it. There's video, there's scorecards, there's Pete Rose's
shoes that he wore, and there's Ty Cobbs shoes in
the same display. So they were loaned by the Rose
family to the Hall of Fame.

Speaker 2 (40:33):
Yeah, I don't know.

Speaker 3 (40:34):
Maybe they say we want to take it back, but
I don't know. It seems petty, you want people to
at least experience your dad might not be in the
Hall of Fame but has some artifacts there. Take your
family or your family's family and be able to go
see Pete Rose. Johnny Bench was there with Pete, one

(40:55):
of his teammates, greatest catcher ever, will join us coming
up final hour in the Danige dan Patrick's Show.
