They got bounced. I love it. Tigers advance, the Royals advance,
Padres get the Dodgers. I love it. I think it's great.
You got the Brewers and you got the Mets coming
up later on tonight. And I know it's opposite football,
and it felt like they tried to cram in the
wild card round so it'd be like a week and

then you get ready to start coming up this weekend.
I love it. Baseball needs must see TV needs tension.
You need to watch every game is going to matter.
You win that first game on the road. Now you
got that home team on the ropes, and we saw them.
We got to see the Tigers do that to the

Astros and the Kansas City Royals, who might have of
pitching staffs, the two best starting pitchers on a pitching staff.
Now it gets dicey with every rotation after that. But
it used to be that was the formula. You had
two hammers and then you had some timely hitting, some
good defense, a decent closer. You were good to go.

And you start to look at the payroll disparity and
it's really remarkable. I'm watching the Astros game and here's
the Tiger in twenty twenty four. Their payroll eighteen point
eight million dollars.

Yeah, their twenty six man roster cost eighteen point eight
million dollars in twenty twenty four. The Astros reliever Josh Hater,
he makes nineteen million dollars a year.

was fun. There was tension, there was excitement. There's heroes.
I mean, you got Jackson Cheerio had two home runs.

and now you have Game three coming up with Milwaukee
and the Mets. I love it. Thought it was great,
it was exciting, and I haven't been able to say
that for a while. You know, the regular season is
so long. And look, we don't complain about March madness.

When the number one seeded team gets bounced in the
second round, we don't go that's not fair. There should
be a best of five or a bet. It's one baseball,
you get three basketball, one and done. If the NBA
did this. If they did a best of three, I'd
be in favor of it. I think it would be

great even best of five. The playoffs take forever. That's
where you get everybody's attention. I mean, you're gonna hear
it in my voice. This was fun. I really enjoyed it.
And yes, you lose the Astros. Would I like to
see them still be in there? Yes, because they're easy

to root against. The Braves were banged up. The Orioles
are just not a good postseason team. But the Tigers
in Royals, the Padres are so dangerous. Now you got
the Dodgers, we get Otani on a big stage. You
get to see Bobby Witt Junior, the third who might
be the fastest player in the game, should be the
runner up to judge for MVP. It's fun, it's fun.

To me, I would like to have seen a the
Mets going home to host this game tonight, build up
the tension. I would like to have seen that, But
you would have had to have them play on Friday,

think they crammed in the wild card best of three,
and yes, what I'd like to have seen the team

that wins two on the road or one on the
road be able to come back home. Yeah, I would
just to build up the tension. But here we are,

Okay, that I think Baker Mayfield is an interesting storyline
because I agree we we got a larger sample size.
If I go back to last year, so twenty one games,
his stats are second best to Dak Prescott. If I
look at touchdowns, interception like he I think he's gotten

to the point where we have to recognize him as
he's a is he a very good quarterback? But he
I mean, he's certainly a good quarterback.
Speaker 4 (16:17):
He's definitively a good quarterback. And you did larger sample.
If you go to like week twelve of last year
and now, which is including the playoffs, maybe week thirteen,
it's like ten games, it's elite numbers, like truly elite
numbers across the board, rating yards, all of it. He
also has going for this the guys played four career

playoff games, has gone for three hundred plus or had
awesome games in three of them, even though they did
lose to you know, one of those ones that he
was awesome in, and his story kind of makes sense
to me. Awesome college player comes into Cleveland, is instantly good,
has maybe erupts sophomore season, then is awesome again, and

then his last year in Cleveland, Week one tears his
labram in his showing throwing arm.

And is really bad.

The rest of that year, and people were very quick
to kind of throw him out. Obviously he wasn't great,
and he wasn't even good in Carolina, seems like nobody is.
And now in Tampa has had a chance to be
rejuvenated a bit. He also has learned, in my opinion,
his biggest weakness early in his career was it felt
like he thought he was faster than he was, Like
(17:33):
it felt like he thought he was a better athlete
than he actually was, and so he would try to
escape and get run down. I also think there is
a we're seeing it with Baker. I don't really believe
in Darnald, but maybe with Donald. We've seen it in
other instances. The Gino Smith is a great example. The

veteran quarterback who gets the experience of being in the
league five, eight, ten years, but isn't thought of highly,
so he's not paid highly. So you get like the
rook not the rookie contract, but you get a cheap
quarterback but with all this experience, so you can then
have a bunch of great weapons around him that thus

far this season has been a very effective through line
for teams.
Speaker 2 (18:18):
Yeah, and Sam Darnold, I still maintain that there has
to be a landing spot that makes sense for both
team and player. And Baker signed that deal. Yes, I
mean thirty thirty five million. That's that's a nice if
Mitch Trubisky should have taken that deal when he was
in Pittsburgh because now in Chicago he might still be

their quarterback. If he had had a it felt like, hey,
you're next up, so you got to get you know,
forty five to fifty million. Not everybody deserves fifty million,
sixty million.
Speaker 4 (18:52):
And so that's listen. You know, I'm a big Trevor
Lawrence guy. He's been brutal this year. The team's been bad,
and that contract is going to be an albatross. I
was worried to his contract was going to be an albatross.
There is there are some weird things happening with the
NFL salary structure where so listen, I know it's a

passing league, obviously it is, but it is it's weird
that the market. Someone had a tweet about this, I
think was Mina, and she's right. The market told us
that Alan Lazard brings as much value to a team
as Derrick Henry and no one bats an eye like
that's not correct.

Like Derrick Henry gets ten million a year and people
are like, oh man, that's a lot for a wide receiver.
Christian Kirk gets fourteen, all right, a lot for running back.
Christian Kirk gets fourteen and nobody cares. So there is
that has touched the quarterback position as well, which is
Mahomes is worth one hundred a year, Josh Allen is
worth sixty a year.

Lamar is worth fifty a year.

I'm not sure where Dak is, but that neck Joe
Burrow's worth fifty a year. But that next group of
guys is not. And but it's just where the market
has moved to.

Andy Reid's genius to me is if you look at
the Chiefs game winning touchdowns in the playoffs, Super Bowl,
it's not the stars, correct, That's that's the brilliance of
you use Sky Moore, McCole, Harcole Hardman like. That to

me is the brilliance of Andy Reid. Uh Pacheco Like.
It's not the guys that you think are going to
score these touchdowns, but his ability to find those guys
and use them in the right moment at the right

wide receiver room because of injury. Here are the guys
Kareem Hunt Cleveland said we can't use you. Cleveland's no good,
samajp Ryan waived by the Broncos they stink. And Carson Steele,
whose NFL prospects were so grim when he was at

UCLA that his sister scheduled her wedding for a Saturday
for a Sunday in the fall in September, knowing he
was draft eligible, so his own family didn't believe in him.
The receivers are a rookie who I think is going
to be good, but Juju who the Patriots said we
can't use you, McCole Hardman, who the Jets said we
can't use you. And Justin Watson who went to.

What the Chiefs they have the they have the benefit
of having this great young defense and Mahome who hasn't
played great this year, and because of that they can
all year long get these guys reps and opportunities and

These guys have no experience with it.

would it take for me to worry about the Chiefs,

but is he is a good to very good player.
He's an excellent offensive player, and the contract's you know,

when it comes to winning a championship. And Minnesota just

came off the best year they've had in the history
of their franchise, or second best year, and they totally.

So I think those comments were I'm somewhat misinterpreted. I
think the more interesting comments he made were I have
nothing left to prove, which is Lebron I think trying
to set the conversation of I don't care what you
guys think. I think the goat debates over and when

he said it's all extra credit, he is he is
making it clear to everyone again people can disagree with
him that I'm the greatest player ever. That's that part's done.
So everything else I do from here is just to
see how far I can take it.

I know people will argue, but I happen to think
not only do I agree with Lebron on the merits,
I also agree with his sentiment, which is, you know,
it's election season. There aren't any undecided voters left in

was five better than six. And even if they won
it this year and next year, they would be like, okay,
so it's six to six, but Jordan's got more MVPs
and never lost in the finals.

that vicinity. And so I just don't I think Lebron

I mean one guy at his peak was better, but
the other guy clearly had a better career. I just

versus Apex, Lebron was the better player. And so I

get the idea of it. I just don't subscribe to
the thinking of it.

Well, it's like Aaron Rodgers is supposed to be the

so I just disagree with it on its merits. But again,

preferred a trade. How does the player tell management that

Dan, great to be with you. As always, they walk in,
knock on your door, either them or they're agent. And
something that's really important though in twenty twenty four is
we saw it recently a couple of years ago with
Jalen Ramsey. He says, hey, I'm no longer a Jaguar
and he doesn't play until he's traded. So Devonte Adams
could hamstring could last a very long time. So you know,
(31:24):
in the past, maybe five ten years ago, you could
try to work things out. But I think the way
it is now with some of these A players, when
they decide on something, they do have leverage under the
rules to say they quote unquote can't play and they're
holding in, not holding out.
Speaker 2 (31:38):
Well, you bring up a great point with Davonte. He's
got the hamstring injury. Well, he's already said he wants
to play elsewhere. So if you're the Raiders, if he
even is cleared to play, are you going to play him? Yeah?
Speaker 10 (31:52):
Well, look I probably wouldn't because if I'm Antonino appears,
I'm in year one Dan of a massive rebuilt I
got to get the quarterback. I'd rather have a second
or third round pick, knowing that if I need it
to trade up in the draft to go get quarterback X,
that's probably better for us long term than having a
guy that's, let's face it, a great player, but clearly
much closer to the end and probably won't help us
(32:14):
in two to three years anyway.
Speaker 2 (32:16):
Okay, Davante says the Jets are the Saints, Well, the
Raiders don't care who he wants to go to. How
does that work if all of a sudden you get
a better deal from New England and he doesn't want
to go there.
Speaker 10 (32:30):
I've been in that situation before, like, hey, look, we're
going to try to accommodate you, but we will do
what is best for the Las Vegas Raiders. So if
it's Team X, look we got to get the best
compensation we can. If it's the Jets, if it's the Saints,
as it's been reported as of the Derek car relationship, absolutely,
but we're not going to give you a way to
those teams because we also have an organization to run
(32:53):
and that's who my responsibility is to. So we will
be open, we will be transparent, but we are not
indiscriminately letting you walk to New York, you know, to
Aaron Rodgers for a six round pick him in. You
know what we gave up for you just two short
years ago.

Is Tyreek Hill trying to flirt with the Kansas City Chiefs.
Speaker 5 (33:10):
Yeah.
Speaker 10 (33:10):
I think Tyreek Hill's savvier than people realize. I think
he's saying all the right things and you want to
take care of your home base, which I think he's
done very well. He's been a great player for Miami. Obviously,
there was a bump in the road with what happened
a couple of weeks ago. But I think he hitled
that situation really well, and it looks like he's really
maturing as a player and as a person. I would
(33:31):
say he is being really pragmatic from a standpoint that. Look,
if I have a chance to go with a title
with Patrick Mahomes and I just got paid again, sure
I'll take my cake and eat it too. I just
would be hard pressed Dan to see Miami move on.
He's been a great player for them. They just paid him.
I just don't see them wanting to do that.
Speaker 2 (33:50):
Okay, that brings us to the tooist situation. If you're
at the Dolphins GM. Now, once again we've said that
this is a business. We're looking at this from a
business perspective, trying not to be insensitive. But if you're
the Dolphins GM, do you is there any part of
you that says we have to look at moving on
from our quarterbacking position? Can we move on from our
(34:13):
quarterbacking position?
Speaker 10 (34:16):
I think you know, both things can be true. That
we believe in Tua. We also have to act in
a responsible way. Just give them what's happened. Obviously in
the last couple of weeks and earlier in his career,
and I think the best way to do that, Dan
candidly is probably next year's draft. I just think the
cost when you're paying a guy over fifty million a year,
I think it's really hard to bring in, you know,
(34:36):
fill in the blank, Garda Minshew, Joe Flacco and add
another ten million dollars of resources where you have obviously
a lot of other needs you want to address. So
to me, maybe it's a second round pick. You know,
I mentioned it last year. It's a little bit Apple starrages,
but similar like with Dak Prescott, like at that time,
Dak's setting into the last year of his deal. If
I'm Jerry Jones, I'm drafting Spencer Rattler in the second
(34:57):
or third round just to give me a little insurance.
And those second or third round quarterbacks stand are such
a value relative to the cap that to me, if
I'm Miami or another team that just Trevor Lawrence is
another one. Hey, I'm gonna start hedging, but I got
to hedge through the draft.
Speaker 2 (35:12):
Yeah, I'm just trying to figure out. Do you think
the NFL wants to to be medically cleared?
Speaker 10 (35:20):
That's a simple question and complicated answer. First of all,
just for the audience. The last step for any player,
including to it to be clear to play, he has
to be cleared by an independent neurologist. I've been in
situations where a player went through the other four steps,
we got to a Saturday expecting the player would play,
had no setbacks, and an independent neurologist would clear a player,
(35:41):
which includes things like having contact at practice, having your
baseline tests compared to where it was in the spring.
So I think the league, ultimately Dan, they're going to
stand on we've changed our protocol and process and if
and when two is cleared, it's by a jointly appointed physician.
So be it the Dolphins or any other team. They're
(36:03):
not dealing with the issue of, hey, we're clearing a
player for our interests, not the players.
Speaker 2 (36:08):
I just can't imagine holding your breath, Mike for another
seventy games with TUA when you sign him to this deal.
And what are the odds that he'll never have another concussion?
Speaker 10 (36:20):
Yeah, I mean obviously those are very low. And that's
why to me like their next step is, look, when
he's played, he's played well, but dur Bill, he's been issued.
He played full season last year, Let's give him credit.
But beyond that, be it at Alabama or in the pros,
he's had issues. That's why I think Miami's next step
would probably be in the draft, because you're right, if
you and I were running a team, it wouldn't be
reasonable to think that he's going to play, you know,
(36:42):
seventeen games without another pump of the road.
Speaker 2 (36:45):
Can you see a situation where and once again I
have no information on this. I did ask about this
yesterday with an NFL scout that maybe Shudor Sanders would say,
I'm not going to Carolina, Like, do you think we'll
see an Eli Manning situation with any of these quarterbacks
in the coming years?
Speaker 10 (37:06):
Absolutely? And here's why they have a lot more money.
You know, some of these guys are coming in with
eight figures worth of you know, nil deal or what
suon will be revenue share, and so you know, if
you have ten million dollars in your bank account, you're
going to comport yourself differently than if you're coming in
as someone that's just trying to make it economically. So
it's not going to be a lot of players, but
(37:26):
it's a sure Door Sanders certainly, and Arch Banning will
certainly come to mind, not just because of his lineage,
but presumably by all the money he's probably making at Texas.
So when these higher profile quarterbacks are working their way
through the system, without question, Look, Caleb Williams didn't do that.
He probably had the stature if he wanted to for
whatever reason. Hey, I don't want to be a bear.
(37:48):
He may have been able to do it economically.
Speaker 2 (37:51):
And I wonder about this being a former GM. They're
getting paid now, they're professionals in college and they have money.
So does that help you when you're drafting these quarterbacks
of maturity level or you know, they they understand finances
a little bit more. They're not going to go out
(38:11):
and blow their money on you know, Amaserai as soon
as they get there. Does that help in drafting somebody
when you feel like they got a little bit of
a head start in that category.
Speaker 10 (38:23):
Yes, But here's the character that dan I've talked to
a lot of people at the league about this. Here's
what we don't know. And Caleb Williams and Jayden Daniels
are just the most recent examples when quarterbacks transfer that
used to be a big red flag. Obviously the world's
different now, but when you've only had adulation and been
able to move situations when you weren't happy, that doesn't
(38:45):
happen in the NFL. So if in one Caleb Williams
has a four game losing streak, he's not going to
be able to go from the Bears to the Packers
and to be able to have the mental toughness and
the resiliency. You know, when you talk to Parcels about
Phil Simms as reviews and what it was like to
develop a quarterback in New York or Eli Manning early on,
like they had a mental toughness that is rare, and
(39:07):
that's something we don't know about these young quarterbacks and
we're going to learn, I think, both good and bad
in the coming years on especially the guys that have transferred,
and how they handle criticism and how they handle hard
coaching when things aren't going well.

I love it. Baseball needs must see TV needs tension.
You need to watch every game is going to matter.
You win that first game on the road. Now you
got that home team on the ropes, and we saw them.
We got to see the Tigers do that to the

Astros and the Kansas City Royals, who might have of
pitching staffs, the two best starting pitchers on a pitching staff.
Now it gets dicey with every rotation after that. But
it used to be that was the formula. You had
two hammers and then you had some timely hitting, some
good defense, a decent closer. You were good to go.

And you start to look at the payroll disparity and
it's really remarkable. I'm watching the Astros game and here's
the Tiger in twenty twenty four. Their payroll eighteen point
eight million dollars.

Yeah, their twenty six man roster cost eighteen point eight
million dollars in twenty twenty four. The Astros reliever Josh Hater,
he makes nineteen million dollars a year.

second round, we don't go that's not fair. There should
be a best of five or a bet. It's one baseball,
you get three basketball, one and done. If the NBA
did this. If they did a best of three, I'd
be in favor of it. I think it would be

great even best of five. The playoffs take forever. That's
where you get everybody's attention. I mean, you're gonna hear
it in my voice. This was fun. I really enjoyed it.
And yes, you lose the Astros. Would I like to
see them still be in there? Yes, because they're easy

to root against. The Braves were banged up. The Orioles
are just not a good postseason team. But the Tigers
in Royals, the Padres are so dangerous. Now you got
the Dodgers, we get Otani on a big stage. You
get to see Bobby Witt Junior, the third who might
be the fastest player in the game, should be the
runner up to judge for MVP. It's fun, it's fun.

Okay, that I think Baker Mayfield is an interesting storyline
because I agree we we got a larger sample size.
If I go back to last year, so twenty one games,
his stats are second best to Dak Prescott. If I
look at touchdowns, interception like he I think he's gotten

to the point where we have to recognize him as
he's a is he a very good quarterback? But he
I mean, he's certainly a good quarterback.

He's definitively a good quarterback. And you did larger sample.
If you go to like week twelve of last year
and now, which is including the playoffs, maybe week thirteen,
it's like ten games, it's elite numbers, like truly elite
numbers across the board, rating yards, all of it. He
also has going for this the guys played four career

playoff games, has gone for three hundred plus or had
awesome games in three of them, even though they did
lose to you know, one of those ones that he
was awesome in, and his story kind of makes sense
to me. Awesome college player comes into Cleveland, is instantly good,
has maybe erupts sophomore season, then is awesome again, and

then his last year in Cleveland, Week one tears his
labram in his showing throwing arm.

And is really bad.

The rest of that year, and people were very quick
to kind of throw him out. Obviously he wasn't great,
and he wasn't even good in Carolina, seems like nobody is.
And now in Tampa has had a chance to be
rejuvenated a bit. He also has learned, in my opinion,
his biggest weakness early in his career was it felt
like he thought he was faster than he was, Like
(17:33):
it felt like he thought he was a better athlete
than he actually was, and so he would try to
escape and get run down. I also think there is
a we're seeing it with Baker. I don't really believe
in Darnald, but maybe with Donald. We've seen it in
other instances. The Gino Smith is a great example. The

veteran quarterback who gets the experience of being in the
league five, eight, ten years, but isn't thought of highly,
so he's not paid highly. So you get like the
rook not the rookie contract, but you get a cheap
quarterback but with all this experience, so you can then
have a bunch of great weapons around him that thus
(18:14):
far this season has been a very effective through line
for teams.

Yeah, and Sam Darnold, I still maintain that there has
to be a landing spot that makes sense for both
team and player. And Baker signed that deal. Yes, I
mean thirty thirty five million. That's that's a nice if
Mitch Trubisky should have taken that deal when he was
in Pittsburgh because now in Chicago he might still be
(18:40):
their quarterback. If he had had a it felt like, hey,
you're next up, so you got to get you know,
forty five to fifty million. Not everybody deserves fifty million,
sixty million.

And so that's listen. You know, I'm a big Trevor
Lawrence guy. He's been brutal this year. The team's been bad,
and that contract is going to be an albatross. I
was worried to his contract was going to be an albatross.
There is there are some weird things happening with the
NFL salary structure where so listen, I know it's a

passing league, obviously it is, but it is it's weird
that the market. Someone had a tweet about this, I
think was Mina, and she's right. The market told us
that Alan Lazard brings as much value to a team
as Derrick Henry and no one bats an eye like
that's not correct.

Like Derrick Henry gets ten million a year and people
are like, oh man, that's a lot for a wide receiver.
Christian Kirk gets fourteen, all right, a lot for running back.
Christian Kirk gets fourteen and nobody cares. So there is
that has touched the quarterback position as well, which is
Mahomes is worth one hundred a year, Josh Allen is
worth sixty a year.

was draft eligible, so his own family didn't believe in him.
The receivers are a rookie who I think is going
to be good, but Juju who the Patriots said we

can't use you. And Justin Watson who went to.

What the Chiefs they have the they have the benefit
of having this great young defense and Mahome who hasn't

the trade. I don't think it's a bad move for

signaled to me out West.

The Timberwolves, right or wrong, no longer feel like, oh,
we have to build our team with Denver first and

Gobert combo was a really good combo to get through
the Nuggets to go off that to me, they're saying,
we don't look at Denver as this ultimate alpha that

we have to build, you know, in relation.

To Yeah, and we see this a lot of times.
Teams are building their team because there's there's a championship
team that they know they have to go through. The
Lebron James comments and I'm paraphrasing like, don't have expectations
on our season.

So I think those comments were I'm somewhat misinterpreted. I
think the more interesting comments he made were I have
nothing left to prove, which is Lebron I think trying
to set the conversation of I don't care what you
guys think. I think the goat debates over and when

he said it's all extra credit, he is he is
making it clear to everyone again people can disagree with
him that I'm the greatest player ever. That's that part's done.
So everything else I do from here is just to
see how far I can take it.

And I know that'll make people mad.

I know people will argue, but I happen to think
not only do I agree with Lebron on the merits,
I also agree with his sentiment, which is, you know,
it's election season. There aren't any undecided voters left in
this thing. And even if the Lakers won the title
this year, the Jordan folks would be like, oh, win

was five better than six. And even if they won
it this year and next year, they would be like, okay,
so it's six to six, but Jordan's got more MVPs
and never lost in the finals.

I'm not gonna call them deplorables, but they're somewhere in
that vicinity. And so I just don't I think Lebron
is saying, look at the record books. Every youngest ever record,
it says my name, and now every oldest ever record

he said that. And as far as the expectations, I

just think he was saying it's a blank canvas.

Well, it's almost like when Jordan went to the Wizard
and I you know, I don't know if there was
this oh my god, he's got to live up to
Eric Jordan. I think we were just happy that he
came back and he was playing. I don't remember expectation
levels where like, oh what a disappointment. It was no, Hey,
we get a chance to see Mike play a little
bit more.

I mean, I think some people and Jordan went to
the Wizards were like, maybe this is the year he
can prove he can play five hundred basketball without Scottie Pippen,
And of course he couldn't.

has had a better career, one is a better player

I think I agree with the idea that you could.
You could say like Peyton Mann, Tom Brady, you know,
I mean one guy at his peak was better, but
the other guy clearly had a better career. I just
think Lebron's career is unimpeachably better, and I think Apex
versus Apex, Lebron was the better player. And so I

get the idea of it. I just don't subscribe to
the thinking of it.

Well, it's like Aaron Rodgers is supposed to be the
most talented quarterback to ever play the position, but Tom
Brady is more decorated.

Yeah, I know it exists across sports. Luckily, in basketball,
the most talented best is also the one who had
the best career. We're really fortunate in that space. Like, yeah,
so I just disagree with it on its merits. But again,
this is a great if you don't want to, if
you don't have a hot Cowboys.

preferred a trade. How does the player tell management that

Dan, great to be with you. As always, they walk in,
knock on your door, either them or they're agent. And
something that's really important though in twenty twenty four is
we saw it recently a couple of years ago with
Jalen Ramsey. He says, hey, I'm no longer a Jaguar
and he doesn't play until he's traded. So Devonte Adams
could hamstring could last a very long time. So you know,
(31:24):
in the past, maybe five ten years ago, you could
try to work things out. But I think the way
it is now with some of these A players, when
they decide on something, they do have leverage under the
rules to say they quote unquote can't play and they're
holding in, not holding out.
Speaker 2 (31:38):
Well, you bring up a great point with Davonte. He's
got the hamstring injury. Well, he's already said he wants
to play elsewhere. So if you're the Raiders, if he
even is cleared to play, are you going to play him? Yeah?
Speaker 10 (31:52):
Well, look I probably wouldn't because if I'm Antonino appears,
I'm in year one Dan of a massive rebuilt I
got to get the quarterback. I'd rather have a second
or third round pick, knowing that if I need it
to trade up in the draft to go get quarterback X,
that's probably better for us long term than having a
guy that's, let's face it, a great player, but clearly
much closer to the end and probably won't help us
(32:14):
in two to three years anyway.
Speaker 2 (32:16):
Okay, Davante says the Jets are the Saints, Well, the
Raiders don't care who he wants to go to. How
does that work if all of a sudden you get
a better deal from New England and he doesn't want
to go there.
Speaker 10 (32:30):
I've been in that situation before, like, hey, look, we're
going to try to accommodate you, but we will do
what is best for the Las Vegas Raiders. So if
it's Team X, look we got to get the best
compensation we can. If it's the Jets, if it's the Saints,
as it's been reported as of the Derek car relationship, absolutely,
but we're not going to give you a way to
those teams because we also have an organization to run
(32:53):
and that's who my responsibility is to. So we will
be open, we will be transparent, but we are not
indiscriminately letting you walk to New York, you know, to
Aaron Rodgers for a six round pick him in. You
know what we gave up for you just two short
years ago.

Is Tyreek Hill trying to flirt with the Kansas City Chiefs.
Speaker 5 (33:10):
Yeah.
Speaker 10 (33:10):
I think Tyreek Hill's savvier than people realize. I think
he's saying all the right things and you want to
take care of your home base, which I think he's
done very well. He's been a great player for Miami. Obviously,
there was a bump in the road with what happened
a couple of weeks ago. But I think he hitled
that situation really well, and it looks like he's really
maturing as a player and as a person. I would
(33:31):
say he is being really pragmatic from a standpoint that. Look,
if I have a chance to go with a title
with Patrick Mahomes and I just got paid again, sure
I'll take my cake and eat it too. I just
would be hard pressed Dan to see Miami move on.
He's been a great player for them. They just paid him.
I just don't see them wanting to do that.
Speaker 2 (33:50):
Okay, that brings us to the tooist situation. If you're
at the Dolphins GM. Now, once again we've said that
this is a business. We're looking at this from a
business perspective, trying not to be insensitive. But if you're
the Dolphins GM, do you is there any part of
you that says we have to look at moving on
from our quarterbacking position? Can we move on from our
(34:13):
quarterbacking position?
Speaker 10 (34:16):
I think you know, both things can be true. That
we believe in Tua. We also have to act in
a responsible way. Just give them what's happened. Obviously in
the last couple of weeks and earlier in his career,
and I think the best way to do that, Dan
candidly is probably next year's draft. I just think the
cost when you're paying a guy over fifty million a year,
I think it's really hard to bring in, you know,
(34:36):
fill in the blank, Garda Minshew, Joe Flacco and add
another ten million dollars of resources where you have obviously
a lot of other needs you want to address. So
to me, maybe it's a second round pick. You know,
I mentioned it last year. It's a little bit Apple starrages,
but similar like with Dak Prescott, like at that time,
Dak's setting into the last year of his deal. If
I'm Jerry Jones, I'm drafting Spencer Rattler in the second
(34:57):
or third round just to give me a little insurance.
And those second or third round quarterbacks stand are such
a value relative to the cap that to me, if
I'm Miami or another team that just Trevor Lawrence is
another one. Hey, I'm gonna start hedging, but I got
to hedge through the draft.
Speaker 2 (35:12):
Yeah, I'm just trying to figure out. Do you think
the NFL wants to to be medically cleared?
Speaker 10 (35:20):
That's a simple question and complicated answer. First of all,
just for the audience. The last step for any player,
including to it to be clear to play, he has
to be cleared by an independent neurologist. I've been in
situations where a player went through the other four steps,
we got to a Saturday expecting the player would play,
had no setbacks, and an independent neurologist would clear a player,
(35:41):
which includes things like having contact at practice, having your
baseline tests compared to where it was in the spring.
So I think the league, ultimately Dan, they're going to
stand on we've changed our protocol and process and if
and when two is cleared, it's by a jointly appointed physician.
So be it the Dolphins or any other team. They're
(36:03):
not dealing with the issue of, hey, we're clearing a
player for our interests, not the players.
Speaker 2 (36:08):
I just can't imagine holding your breath, Mike for another
seventy games with TUA when you sign him to this deal.
And what are the odds that he'll never have another concussion?
Speaker 10 (36:20):
Yeah, I mean obviously those are very low. And that's
why to me like their next step is, look, when
he's played, he's played well, but dur Bill, he's been issued.
He played full season last year, Let's give him credit.
But beyond that, be it at Alabama or in the pros,
he's had issues. That's why I think Miami's next step
would probably be in the draft, because you're right, if
you and I were running a team, it wouldn't be
reasonable to think that he's going to play, you know,
(36:42):
seventeen games without another pump of the road.
Speaker 2 (36:45):
Can you see a situation where and once again I
have no information on this. I did ask about this
yesterday with an NFL scout that maybe Shudor Sanders would say,
I'm not going to Carolina, Like, do you think we'll
see an Eli Manning situation with any of these quarterbacks
in the coming years?
Speaker 10 (37:06):
Absolutely? And here's why they have a lot more money.
You know, some of these guys are coming in with
eight figures worth of you know, nil deal or what
suon will be revenue share, and so you know, if
you have ten million dollars in your bank account, you're
going to comport yourself differently than if you're coming in
as someone that's just trying to make it economically. So
it's not going to be a lot of players, but
(37:26):
it's a sure Door Sanders certainly, and Arch Banning will
certainly come to mind, not just because of his lineage,
but presumably by all the money he's probably making at Texas.
So when these higher profile quarterbacks are working their way
through the system, without question, Look, Caleb Williams didn't do that.
He probably had the stature if he wanted to for
whatever reason. Hey, I don't want to be a bear.
(37:48):
He may have been able to do it economically.
Speaker 2 (37:51):
And I wonder about this being a former GM. They're
getting paid now, they're professionals in college and they have money.
So does that help you when you're drafting these quarterbacks
of maturity level or you know, they they understand finances
a little bit more. They're not going to go out
(38:11):
and blow their money on you know, Amaserai as soon
as they get there. Does that help in drafting somebody
when you feel like they got a little bit of
a head start in that category.
Speaker 10 (38:23):
Yes, But here's the character that dan I've talked to
a lot of people at the league about this. Here's
what we don't know. And Caleb Williams and Jayden Daniels
are just the most recent examples when quarterbacks transfer that
used to be a big red flag. Obviously the world's
different now, but when you've only had adulation and been
able to move situations when you weren't happy, that doesn't
(38:45):
happen in the NFL. So if in one Caleb Williams
has a four game losing streak, he's not going to
be able to go from the Bears to the Packers
and to be able to have the mental toughness and
the resiliency. You know, when you talk to Parcels about
Phil Simms as reviews and what it was like to
develop a quarterback in New York or Eli Manning early on,
like they had a mental toughness that is rare, and
(39:07):
that's something we don't know about these young quarterbacks and
we're going to learn, I think, both good and bad
in the coming years on especially the guys that have transferred,
and how they handle criticism and how they handle hard
coaching when things aren't going well.
