You are listening to the Dan Patrick Show on Fox
Sports Radio over.
Speaker 2 (00:05):
Two on this Tuesday, Dan and the Dan N's Dan
Patrick Show. Are the Ravens the team to beat in
the AFC, Lamar Jackson the player to beat for MVP?
Certainly look that way. Last night the Ravens handled the Buccaneers.
Five touchdowns for Lamar won, sixty nine for Derek Henry.
Cardinals come back and beat the Chargers. It's one of
(00:25):
those where Justin Herbert was threatening, but that's all he did.
He threatened to score a touchdown. He threw for over
three hundred and sixty yards, no touchdowns, and they lose.
At the buzzer seventeen fifteen, you got NBA openers tonight, Nixon,
the Celtics, Timberwolves, and the Lakers coming up. Our good buddy,
(00:46):
former Reds All star Joey Vado. Also we'll play the
Man Did Blank need that game? That'll be coming up
Fox Sports Radio, iHeartRadio and if you've downloaded the app,
it's Peacock where you can watch this program.

Speaker 2 (01:02):
Stat of the Day brought to you by Patini America,
the official trading cards of the Dan Patrick show. There's
a play in the Chiefs Niners game that's bothering me.
It didn't bother me necessarily at the time, but it's
bothering me with the analysis of this play. Patrick Mahomes
is dancing down the sidelines and I'm hearing an analyst say, oh,
(01:25):
he's a magician. Well he is, but not on that play.
Nobody can hit him.
Speaker 3 (01:33):
You know, they play the Raiders next.
Speaker 2 (01:35):
If I'm Antonio Pierce, I say to my guys, hey,
if you get a chance, hit him, treat him like
a running back. Let's pop this guy because he's dancing
down the sidelines and then he cuts back in.
Speaker 3 (01:50):
Well, these defensive players are like, uh, I don't know.
Can I touch you? Can I push out of bounds?
What am I allowed to do?
Speaker 2 (01:58):
You can truly see that in the moment, the Niners
have no idea what to do with Patrick Mahomes because
it's a quarterback and Patrick Mahomes, but oh my god,
he's a magician. He does a lot of things where
he is truly a magician. That that's just the sport saying, hey,
do not hit those guys. You're not allowed to hit
(02:20):
those guys. And if you do, you're going to be flagged. Well,
I'm gonna take the fifteen. I'll get fined. But if
you're going to let him run around like that and
have free reign, we already know what he can do
now all of a sudden, I mean, he's empowered.
Speaker 3 (02:36):
It's like, hey, you guys, can't do anything to me.
Speaker 2 (02:39):
And then he does take on a hit in the
end zone when he scores a touchdown. I mean, he
buries this kid, Mustafa, And if you see this kid
is he is jacked.
Speaker 3 (02:52):
He's out of a Marvel movie, like he's carved out
of marble.
Speaker 2 (02:57):
Yes, yes, yes, And then Holmes has a dad bod
and he takes on that hit and it's almost like
Mustafa goes, can I hit him? Can I blow him up?
And then he kind of gets caught in between and Mahomes.
Speaker 3 (03:12):
Runs him over.
Speaker 2 (03:13):
And it's just these defensive players. They you don't want
to hesitate, You don't want to have that moment where
you go, what are we supposed to do here? Everything's reactionary,
but the he's a magician, dancing down the sidelines, an
escape artist, he is, he's all of those things. He's
one of the great quarterbacks of all time.
Speaker 3 (03:33):
But if I.
Speaker 2 (03:35):
Take away the opportunity to blast somebody, he's going to
continue to do it until somebody pops him.
Speaker 3 (03:44):
Yeah, PAULI.
Speaker 4 (03:45):
The Mahomes play, it's different than that Kenny Pickett college
play where he faked the slide, but it looked like
he was calmly walking out of bounds and he cuts
back in. It goes back to last year. There was
a Packers game and a tight game. Mahomes is clearly
running out of bounds and he lowers shoulder and there's
a defensive back for the Packers and he hits them
clearly in bounds fifteen yard penalty. It's like the defensive
(04:07):
backs are it's like a chilling effect on them.
Speaker 2 (04:10):
NFL MVP odds after last night, Lamar Jackson is comfortably
in front. Patrick Mahomes is second, but he shouldn't be.
Josh Allen is third, he should probably be second, or
Jared Goff should be second, and then it's Jordan Love.
After that, you know it's the mahomesy in effect. They're undefeated.
He must be having a great season, which he's not,
(04:33):
but he is. He does what he needs to do
when he needs to do it, and in the history
of the sport, there's only a few of those quarterbacks
that give them that opportunity. I'm going to do the
right thing at the right time, and he's there, He's
in that conversation. But he hasn't had great numbers this year.
I think their MVP has been their coaching staff. I
(04:54):
think when Andy Reid has done, Steve Spagnoll, the defensive coordinator,
those are your v piece. Josh Allen is to meet
a true MVP this year. I think they're asking him
to do too much. Jared Goff is not going to
get the credit that he deserves.
Speaker 3 (05:09):
Just not never going to happen.
Speaker 2 (05:13):
We might look back on his career and go, God,
he was a whole lot better than we gave him
credit for. And now you might say, well, let me
see him in a big game. Ham right there with you.
But this is about the MVP regular season because we've
done this with Lamar Jackson, where you go, let me
see it in a big game, and we have seen
it in a big game, and it's not there. Eight
seven seven to three, DP show email address DP at
(05:35):
dan Patrick dot com, Twitter handle at DP show. You
have NBA Opening Night Nick Celtics Timberwolf's Lakers to headline
opening night. Here is the Celtics head coach Joe Missoula
on do you feel pressure going back to back?
Speaker 5 (05:52):
I just don't look at it as pressure because like
a Boston media member or somebody expected me to within,
like they don't have a weapon, Like they're not going
to come after me, or we don't win. Like you're
saying words, so like they don't mean anything.
Speaker 6 (06:04):
They're just words.
Speaker 5 (06:05):
They're just saying them because you have to say them.
You're contractually obligated to write a you know, five hundred
page article after our word article after there is words,
you can't do anything, and so it's just a made
up word. We don't have a pressure who we're not
losing our life. Like we're not surgeons, we're not like
in the military. We coach basketball for a living, and
no one's putting more pressure and expectations than we are
(06:28):
on ourselves.
Speaker 7 (06:29):
So like it's not pressure.
Speaker 5 (06:30):
There's nothing anyone in the circle can do to me
that's going to impact my identity and who I am
as a person.
Speaker 3 (06:34):
Or we're either going to win or we're not.
Speaker 5 (06:36):
In forty years from now, none of you are invited
to my funeral, and.
Speaker 2 (06:39):
That's it, okay, nothing like laughing in the face of
death there, Yes, John, a little dramatic.
Speaker 8 (06:48):
That's not what anyone means when they go feeling pressure
and no one's gonna shoot me or anything, or take
me in an alley if we don't win to it.
Speaker 2 (06:54):
Or contractually obligated to ask me about the pressure that
we're under. I think he was under a whole lot
of pressure if they didn't win the title last year.
And yes, he might not have lost his identity, he
might have lost his job. So there was pressure on
Joe Missoula because you had the best team in the East.
Speaker 3 (07:13):
They did win the title. Finally, congratulations, Yes, Mark, I.
Speaker 6 (07:18):
Kind of like what he said because we're in a
position where we get to do this. I think he
was saying that, like, guys, if we lose, okay, like
it's not a real job in the grand scheme of things,
like this is a real life, like you're a coach.
Speaker 3 (07:34):
I think there's pressure. I think there's pressure.
Speaker 2 (07:38):
I think there was a whole lot of pressure if
they would have bowed out, if they didn't get to
the NBA finals.
Speaker 3 (07:43):
I don't think Joe would have kept his job.
Speaker 6 (07:44):
Oh yeah, but he wasn't going to die.
Speaker 3 (07:46):
Yeah, you're right he was.
Speaker 6 (07:49):
I think that's what he was saying.
Speaker 3 (07:50):
Like, Okay, if you look at it that way, then.
Speaker 6 (07:53):
Yeah, the contract I still get paid.
Speaker 3 (07:56):
Nobody has any pressure on them, right.
Speaker 4 (07:58):
Try doing this at your work. If you're a salesperson
and your numbers are down for the quarter, go to
your boss say, you know, in fifty years, no one's
going to care about this. That's not going to work
in day to day life. Yeah, you know, dad, if
we screwed up ten things today's show, we usually do five.
You know, in eighty years, no one's gonna care about this.
Speaker 6 (08:14):
Radio.
Speaker 4 (08:15):
Yeah, it doesn't work. It's nice when you when you
win a title, you could throw away lines that are
philosophical like that.
Speaker 3 (08:20):
Yes, Ton, And.
Speaker 8 (08:21):
The phrase sudden death overtime pretty sure means the team
that loses doesn't actually lose their lives.
Speaker 3 (08:25):
It's not sudden death.
Speaker 8 (08:26):
No, so Jones, all's got to really relax with that.
Speaker 6 (08:28):
That's not what they're I.
Speaker 2 (08:29):
Think order it should be called sudden loss, like, not
sudden death. I think that's what Joe is saying.
Speaker 6 (08:35):
Do you feel it's really important for you to win
two in a row. Here to approve last year wasn't
a fluglica? Are you gonna die?
Speaker 9 (08:40):
You know?
Speaker 6 (08:40):
You guys aren't coming to my funeral in fifty years
anywhays or what is the mat.
Speaker 3 (08:43):
The Nicks and the Celtics. Now?
Speaker 2 (08:45):
I do think there's pressure on the Knicks because they
made the big trade. They brought in Karl Anthony Towns,
best shooting big men of all time according to him.
But you lose Dante de Vanzenzo and you lose Julius Randam,
So you got guys, I'm not the biggest Randall fan,
like he's gonna give you a twenty, but it goes
to him and then it never moves once it goes
(09:05):
to him. Devincenzo had a really good year last year
and he's got a chip on his shoulder. Minnesota's got
some depth here. But the Knicks went all in with
Carl Anthony Towns. I'm just waiting when he goes over
eight from three point range and you got the Nick fans.
Speaker 3 (09:21):
Get inside your seven father, what are you doing?
Speaker 2 (09:25):
But Carl Anthony Towns is one of those where you
kind of watch and you go, okay, you got a
good night, nice night.
Speaker 3 (09:33):
He's a nice night kind of big. Yeah, he had
a nice nine.
Speaker 6 (09:38):
But sometimes we'll have a game where it's like, man,
I forgot how good he was when he puts up
sixty be like in a loss. Yeah, but still it's like,
guy got Karl Anthony Towns, you got your big man.
When somebody we used to say that, oh man, they
got their big man. We don't say that now, like
you got your big man. Your big man is not
(09:58):
your big man.
Speaker 2 (09:59):
He's not inside, and he's not Shack, he's not Patrick Ewing.
You're not willed got your big No one says that anymore. Man,
you got your big man inside? Yeah, but he plays outside, yes, marmn.
Speaker 6 (10:11):
And the soft reputation has followed him since the whole
Jimmy Butler incident in Minnesota, and I don't know how
he's going to get away from that.
Speaker 3 (10:18):
In New York. Yes, yes, Pauli.
Speaker 4 (10:22):
It's almost like with the NBA, all stats are not
created equal. Because Karlathony Town's averaged twenty one and eight
last year, and you love that, you love he could do, Yeah,
but that's not great.
Speaker 2 (10:32):
Julius Randall averaged that he averages twenty probably better, like
everybody averages twenty. Now, now, if you don't average twenty,
what's wrong with you? How many guys? How many guys
averaged twenty points last year? Are we playing the yes?
How many guys averaged twenty points last year?
Speaker 3 (10:51):
Okay?
Speaker 2 (10:51):
Oh?
Speaker 4 (10:52):
Actual, actual music.
Speaker 3 (10:53):
We've got some NBA music. We could have just had
Todd do this.
Speaker 4 (11:04):
Okay. For the twenty three twenty four season, how many
NBA players average twenty or more points per game?
Speaker 3 (11:11):
I'm gonna go to Marvin First.
Speaker 6 (11:15):
Wow, fifty eight.
Speaker 4 (11:17):
I'm not rounding up. By the way, if you're nineteen nine,
like Scotty Barnes.
Speaker 7 (11:20):
You're out.
Speaker 2 (11:21):
Okay, Oh, really, that's mean Todd. How many guys averaged
at least twenty last year?
Speaker 6 (11:26):
Forty seven, Seaton, thirty two.
Speaker 3 (11:34):
I'm gonna say thirty.
Speaker 4 (11:35):
Four, thirty eight guys average twenty or more points.
Speaker 2 (11:40):
That's a lot of guys. Yeah, that's a lot of
guys getting in.
Speaker 3 (11:44):
Through he's twenty.
Speaker 6 (11:45):
There's some randos too, I bet yeah.
Speaker 4 (11:47):
Like, yeah, Kyle Kuzma averaged twenty an important twenty for
that team. Twenty two building twenty two for Washington God.
Speaker 3 (11:55):
Wizards are rebuilding right now.
Speaker 6 (11:57):
Okay, they're the Titans of the NBA.
Speaker 3 (12:00):
The Tennessee Titans. Tennessee Titans.
Speaker 2 (12:02):
Correct, careful there, yeah, got it, like.
Speaker 3 (12:07):
Maybe the Raiders of the Now. I do, I do.
Speaker 2 (12:10):
I will stop because I have to believe there's nobody
outside of the arena who's watching the Wizards.
Speaker 4 (12:16):
Friends and family.
Speaker 2 (12:17):
Yes, And then I will sometimes stumble upon a Wizard's
game and then I'll go, Okay, I'm going to watch.
Speaker 4 (12:23):
It's like background noise when you're doing stuff at the house.
Speaker 3 (12:25):
No, no, no, I truly watch. No, I truly watch.
Speaker 2 (12:31):
Yes, it is a problem, but I'm like, all right,
I'll watch a little bit here.
Speaker 6 (12:36):
Watch Jordan Poole. He got pushed in the face and
he got traded.
Speaker 3 (12:40):
Yes he did, Yes, he did? Yes, Paul, all.
Speaker 4 (12:43):
Right, real quick? How many players this is weird. How
many players in the NBA last season averaged more than
ten assists per game? Is this correct?
Speaker 3 (12:53):
I'm gonna say.
Speaker 4 (13:00):
Three, got one? Oh in the entire league. I got
Tyre's Halliburton average a ten point nine. Luca at nine
point eight. Can't round up?
Speaker 2 (13:14):
No, No, nine to nine. He might, but joker, we'll
see like nine to one or something.
Speaker 4 (13:22):
Joker nine even yeah nine.
Speaker 2 (13:24):
Okay, yeah, that is with all the guys scoring twenty,
But you don't have all of the guys assisting right
on all these That's because you got a lot of
ball dominant, you know, ISO stuff where you're not exactly
getting those backdoor cuts there. So Nixon, the Celtics coming
(13:47):
up tonight, Timberwolves in the Lakers. Do we know if
Vegas has an over under for Brownie James points tonight?
I don't know if we check with him, but I
do have over under for lebron tonight at twenty four
and a half, Anthony Edwards twenty five and a half,
Anthony Davis twenty four and a half, Julius Randall eighteen
(14:07):
and a half.
Speaker 3 (14:11):
Yeah, I'd be.
Speaker 2 (14:12):
Curious about that. Of how much does he play and
do you play him in? Okay, does Bronnie James play
in the first quarter tonight? Is that part of the
Bronnie James game. It's all the uncompasy. So when are
we doing the Bronnie James game.
Speaker 4 (14:27):
Fifty five minutes from now?
Speaker 3 (14:29):
Oh?
Speaker 2 (14:29):
My god, so right at eleven o'clock eastern, that's right, Oh, Ronnie.
Speaker 10 (14:34):
James usc legend. Neism's going to be.
Speaker 6 (14:46):
There backwards the G League.
Speaker 11 (14:48):
I like that, Bronnie is the bit of nepotism that
we all point to, Like fifty percent of the league
didn't have dads that also played in the league.
Speaker 2 (14:57):
Yeah, but they didn't get the benefit of their dad
running a foster to be able to get their son
drafted to be able to play in the NBA with dad.
Speaker 3 (15:05):
That's different. That's nepotism. No, you're not.
Speaker 2 (15:14):
No, I gotta watch this. This is a historical moment.
You may not like it.
Speaker 4 (15:20):
I wish my dad took me to I wish my
dad was.
Speaker 2 (15:22):
Still alive to take me to the game. That'd be nice. Marvin,
do you wish your dad was still alive?
Speaker 6 (15:27):
Do you know where my dad is? No, I'm asking
you don't know either. I don't know either. I'm asking.
Speaker 2 (15:36):
What if you saw your dad court side at the
Laker game tonight.
Speaker 6 (15:40):
I'd be furious. Wait, I was living in poverty as
a child.
Speaker 2 (15:43):
You over here courts Hime. At least you had company,
like you know, that was your friend. Poverty was your friend.
You had a friend there.
Speaker 6 (15:54):
I'm happy I meet you.
Speaker 3 (15:57):
Are a great success to her Damn.
Speaker 6 (15:58):
I'm happy. I'm successful, My son, says Lebron didn't have
a dad either.
Speaker 3 (16:03):
Thanks. You're on the cover of Connecticut magazine.
Speaker 6 (16:05):
Man, Yes, dani Orlowski's on the cover. Go ahead, sorry,
Oh that's right.
Speaker 3 (16:08):
Dan Orlomski is on the cover of Yukon magazine.
Speaker 4 (16:11):
There Marvin was in at first, though.
Speaker 3 (16:13):
Marvin was not on the cover.
Speaker 6 (16:15):
Though.
Speaker 2 (16:15):
No, Marvin's that selfish team player. Next year, next year. No,
I don't think they're going to do another.
Speaker 3 (16:23):
If you want to follow up, I don't. I don't
think so. I don't change back in with Marvin. See
how soon.
Speaker 2 (16:28):
A little bit later on, we'll talk about Bill Belichick
firing back at the Patriots head coach Gerrod Mayo after
he called the Patriots soft. We'll take a break, We'll
talk some baseball. Joey Vado, our good buddy will join us.
Coming up next year, Dan Patrick Show. Fox Sports Radio

within the iHeartRadio app search FSR to listen live. The
Dodgers starting pitchers have an ERA of over six in
the postseason. That's the highest of any team going into
the World Series since two thousand and three, when the
Florida Marlins came in giving up six and a half
runs per game. Stat of the Day, Stat of the day,
(17:16):
that bust stat of the day.
Speaker 3 (17:18):
Stat of the day.
Speaker 6 (17:20):
Here comes that?
Speaker 4 (17:21):
What stat of the day?
Speaker 3 (17:25):
Stat of the day.
Speaker 2 (17:26):
Brought to you by Panini America, the official trading cards
of the Dan Patrick Show. Former Reds first baseman played
all seventeen seasons with the Reds. Former MVP in the
National League, Joey Vadom back on the program. Man, don't
you wish you were starting your career now the way
the pitching is now?
Speaker 3 (17:46):
Why do you say that? I don't know what's interesting? Why?
Speaker 2 (17:49):
It just feels like fastballs like you're and you might
have been a different hitter. You might have been more
of a power hitter, I guess because it feels like everybody. Well,
would you have benefited in today's baseball as opposed to
you know, ten fifteen years ago.
Speaker 12 (18:03):
Well, the back third of my career, I was. I
think I noticed a difference in the baseball. I think
I noticed that the ball was traveling slightly farther than
I was used to. I could be wrong, and this
could be some sort of mis memory, but I really
think that that could be a factor, and there's been
several players and several studies that have pointed that out.
(18:24):
Now I don't want to get in trouble from Manfred
and the group. You can't get in trouble now. You
don't play anymore in trouble anymore. So I think that's
probably the biggest factor. The pitching is what it is.
I actually think there's less fastballs now. And as I
played and aged and experienced the better pitcher matchup, I
(18:48):
thought they were throwing much less fastballs.
Speaker 3 (18:51):
Now, yeah, I think they're throwing much more.
Speaker 12 (18:54):
I think they're throwing mayybe five ish percent less fastballs
than maybe in my prime, if give give us.
Speaker 2 (19:01):
The difference between one hundred and two miles an hour
and ninety six Aside from the math here.
Speaker 3 (19:09):
Okay, So.
Speaker 12 (19:12):
There's something about the way the ball comes out of
a PICT's hand that matters far more than the velocity.
So if you look up at the gun and you
see one O two, that's only as descriptive as the
batter tells you, Meaning there could be deception in terms
of how he delivers the ball. The arm angle, the
(19:33):
spin rate, and I'm missing I'm sure I'm missing reasons
why a ball can be deceptive. Let the batter tell
you how hard a pitcher is throwing. Ignore the radar gun.
If you're a fan, if you're a big fan of
the sport, especially hitting, the hitter will always tell you
(19:54):
how deceptive.
Speaker 3 (19:55):
That fast fall is. Who had the most deceptive fastball?
Speaker 6 (20:00):
You know, there was.
Speaker 3 (20:03):
There was a few.
Speaker 12 (20:05):
The most deceptive fastball that wasn't a fastball in my experience,
was Marianna Rivera. I had won a bat against him,
and this was at Yankee Stadium, and you know, it
was memorable for me because my late father was there
and this is not long before he passed away. But
I remember facing him in the eighth or ninth inning
and it was not an entirely meaningful at bats as
(20:27):
if it was like two to one or three two
in the ninth inning, and I remember saying to myself,
his ball is going to cut. I've watched it on
TV for years. I'm going to swing over here, it's
going to start. It's going to start on the outside
part of the plate, and I'm going to swing like
it's going to hit me, and as the ball was approaching,
it was as if it was like a frisbee or
(20:48):
a boomerang or some sort of ufo that as the
ball was approaching the plate, it looked like it was
going to and it just teleported to the other part
the plate. And so for me that I think of
as a fastball, I understand it was a cutter. But
when it has fastball velocity, it's the definition of a
(21:10):
fastball with the maximum deception.
Speaker 3 (21:14):
What'd you do with the pitch? I check swung and
it lightly rolled.
Speaker 12 (21:19):
To Alex Rodriguez at third base and I happened to
beat it out because I was in my I was
in my prime.
Speaker 2 (21:29):
Help us understand the launch angle with show Hao Twani,
how much different is it than most power hitters.
Speaker 12 (21:40):
So I think of show Hao tanis as different. First
of all, we're both left handed hitters, and I can
relate to some of the things that he did because
he has the ability to power a ball to the
left center field, to the center field and the right
center field part of the park, but make it straight.
(22:01):
He can make the ball go straight. Oftentimes, when you
hit a ball to left center field, there's going to
be a curl to it, and he kills this curl
because he's able to get the bat into a position
that allows for it to just go straight towards left
center field. And when you get that's kind of straight trajectory,
(22:22):
you get the maximum distance. You know, it just so happens.
He hits the ball butter as hard as everybody in
the game. He has the ability to hit the ball,
as I mentioned before, to the left center field part
of the park. So for me, when you when you're
a batter that knows that at any given point in time,
there is a tough picture or a left handed pitcher
(22:44):
and you need a little bit extra space as the
ball is approaching, you can just aim to left center field.
But if you have that power butt, you have that
boost that instead of a fly ball off the wall
or caught in left center field, it goes out. You
have your confidence skyrockets. That was the biggest difference deep
into my career. When I lost the ability to power
(23:06):
to power the ball to left field, my confidence went
down at all times because I didn't feel like no
matter what pitch I could back, I could hit track
the ball deep into my swing and hit it out
to left center field. Once it was caught at the
track or caught in the outfield, I thought to myself, Okay,
now to get power, I have to pull the ball,
(23:27):
and that's a very vulnerable place. It's like a boxer
reaching when instead of staying in the pocket. I'm clearly
a boxing expert.
Speaker 2 (23:34):
Obviously, obviously you didn't get hit very often, though, look
at that face.
Speaker 6 (23:40):
Thank you.
Speaker 3 (23:41):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (23:42):
Better hitting ballpark Yankee Stadium or Dodger.
Speaker 12 (23:45):
Stadium depends for guys like Aaron Judge, Juan Soto who
have specific styles. Anthony Rizzo gian Carlo can use it. It
matters that the right field is a little bit shorter.
Dodger Stadium is the perfect park in baseball to hidden
for several reasons. First of all, the weather's so predictable.
(24:08):
The lighting, the sunlight, the shadows, the background predictable. Every
hitter just wants predictability. The outfield is gaps are the same,
three seventy five ish corners are the same. Center field
is predictable. If you hit a ball in the gap,
it's going to scoot through for a double or triple.
These are really important characteristics for a hitter to be
(24:31):
able to set his targets and to be able to
try to execute. Now, for example, you're playing in San
Francisco or Pittsburgh and all of a sudden there's wind
blowing in, or you really power ball to a part
of the park that's big and that's your strength. It's
all of a sudden and out la you don't have
that issue. Yankee Stadium, you have that issue.
Speaker 2 (24:50):
But as far as yet hitting in Yankee Stadium, you
do have the friendly right field porch, but the background,
I mean, and you're going to have wind in there.
Speaker 3 (24:57):
Weather we'll play a role.
Speaker 2 (24:58):
But just seeing the ball players talk about that all
the time, there's certain ballparks you just pick it up
a little sooner than other ballparks.
Speaker 12 (25:07):
Yankee Stadium has maybe the best batters background, batters eye,
it has maybe the best batter's box. It has one
of the best East Coast surfaces. This matters because the
East Coast, Midwest, and the South have a difficult climate
for the grounds crews to maintain. The West Coast it's like,
no disrespect to the West Coast grounds cruise, But every
(25:29):
single ballpark is pretty similar in terms of in terms
of upkeep, So for me, Yankee Stadium is perfect. But
if you don't have the ability as a right hand
hitter to power the ball and left center field, you
have to hit a ball four hundred feet. It's the
same for a left handed left hand hitter. Very few
left handed hitters can do that. Yankees happen to have
(25:49):
probably the best left handed hitter not named sho hey
Otani in the game.
Speaker 3 (25:53):
How does this World Series play out?
Speaker 12 (25:55):
In your opinion, Dodgers have home field advantage. I think
that matters. The Yankees haven't played a West Coast game.
I think the Dodgers have already, so there may be
something to sleep and you know, I don't know, but
it's going to come down to randomness. You know, these
are the two best offensive teams. This is the best
(26:17):
case scenario for I think fans of the sport. I mean,
this is an opportunity for the sport to to I
think move forward. But we're going to need a deep series.
And my prediction is I think the Dodgers with the
home field advantage are going to are going.
Speaker 6 (26:34):
To work this one.
Speaker 12 (26:37):
Do you have a rooting interest? I care so much
about the sport. I care so much about the expansion
of the sport. We've got four of the best probably
six players, probably four of the best fifty, maybe seventy
five players in the history of the game in the
World Series. Right now, We've got probably a top fifty
athlete in the world in sho Heyo Tani. In terms
(26:58):
of fandom, so I care desperately about our sport growing
and people falling in love with it. It's difficult when all
of the sports are regional and all of a sudden
you get dunked on the national stage. Fortunately, thankfully we've
got New York in LA. We've got four guest stars
in Muki Aaron Wansto and the Ace of Spades, the
(27:23):
King Whatever, the Big Dog, show Heyo Tani. If we
can maximize this, this is really great for our sport.
I don't want to see a sweep. I don't want
to see a five game series.
Speaker 2 (27:32):
He's Joey Vado, former National League MVP back in twenty ten.
I couldn't help but think of Mike Trout when I
saw show Heyo Tani celebrating after winning the Nation League
Championship series. I mean, there's a really good chance or
bad chance, depending on how you look at it. Mike
Trout will play in three playoff games is in his
(27:52):
entire career.
Speaker 12 (27:53):
Joey, Mike Trout is before show Hey, I thought it
was impossible. I'll say this before Albert Albert Poohols. I
thought I'd never see a better player. Before my Trout,
I thought I'd never see a better player. And now
show Hey, Tony has come along, and imagine being on
that team with those three players. So for Mike Trout,
(28:16):
he is dedicated to that organization. And that's the give
and take of con attaching yourself at the hit with
an organization. You know, if you're if if you have
the good fortune of being inside of a window of
winning with an organization, it gets tied to your legacy
and the end verse is the same as someone that
(28:37):
played for one organization who had I think maybe five
eight ish playoff games, I did not win a playoff series.
That's part of my relationship with the fans of Cincinnati.
The best thing that I think can happen, even if
you know, even if he's not at its peak, he
gets an opportunity to go into play in the World
(28:59):
Series and to do it in a Angels uniform. I think
that that is the dream story for him. And kudos
to him. He's never, you know, misspoke about the organization
or especially the fan base, and I think they appreciate that.
Speaker 2 (29:13):
I think you played in eleven playoff games. You got
into the playoffs, I think what four times, so at
least you had the opportunity. He made it once. He
played three games against Kansas City. That's a shame when
the best player in the sport for a good seven
eight years was not playing in the postseason.
Speaker 12 (29:32):
Yeah, we need our best players in the biggest on
the biggest stage. And you know, my favorite moment of
twenty twenty four was that matchup against Mike Trout and
Shoeo Tani at the World Baseball Classic.
Speaker 3 (29:47):
Was I was excited.
Speaker 12 (29:49):
And baseball hating specifically is so tough because even if
you go three for ten, especially in today's game, you're
an All Star or Hall of Famer. You know, if
you fact during another one with the with the walk
four out of ten times, non making and not making out,
you're a clear Hall of famer. And Mike Trout had
(30:10):
the opportunity against who was probably at his peak physically
maybe the best. I think it was twenty twenty three.
Forgive me if I'm getting the days wrong, but maybe
the best pitcher in the game at the time. We
got to watch it on stage in the biggest moment.
We need those for our best players. And back to
the World Series, we are going to have those the
(30:31):
two best offensive teams with four of the best probably
six players in the sport.
Speaker 4 (30:36):
What a gift.
Speaker 2 (30:38):
The difference of playing in front of Yankee fans and
the difference playing in front of Dodger fans.
Speaker 12 (30:45):
Dodger fans will show up a little late, and you know,
you'll look over the dugout and you'll see Jerry Seinfeld
or you'll see you know, Brian Cranston, New York. Everyone's
you know, I suppose in that first little section where
you know they're they're you know, their drivers a little
late or they had to you know, their hedge fun
(31:07):
went a little bit later the first sections. But you know,
from second anding on when they're calling for this, the
lineup and the lineup on the field is connecting rainsleed
Er Snow with the fans and you can hear the
anger and the the energy, and you can sense as
(31:28):
you're on the field, I'm on a bigger stage than
I've ever been on. No disrespect to LA, but there
is nothing like being in New York with a good
Yankees team at Yankee Stadium. There's nothing like it. I'll
tell a quick story. I was in New York at
the old stadium. First time. The roster was Jeter, a
Rod hit decuments. I mean, the roster was deep, and
(31:51):
it was the seventh inning and I was on the
field up three to one, thinking I'm part of the
Reds and we're gonna win sort of thing, and all
of a sudd and you could just feel the energy
of the crowd. And this is a regular season game.
Feel the energy of the crowd, and you could hear
the ghosts. Now you don't, there's no ghosts. I'm not
a ghost believer, but you could feel the ghosts inside
the stadium. And a Rod got a hit, and you
(32:14):
could feel the sort of the momentum going, we're going
to take this from you and you've you've got no
say over this. I feel like, you know, I feel
like with this particular roster and these superstars on the
Yankees roster, I think that there's a chance to kind
of change the trajectory of that stadium and create a
new aura there.
Speaker 3 (32:34):
Great to talk to you as always. I hope you're
doing well.
Speaker 6 (32:36):
Yeah, I'm doing great. Thanks Dan.
Speaker 2 (32:39):
That's Joey Vado, former Reds first baseman, played all seventeen
seasons in the major leagues with the Reds, former MVP.
He should be on TV. I'm surprised he's not on TV.
I don't know if he wants to be on TV,
but he's so good and so likable as well, and
you know, doesn't have an ego. He would be ideal.
(33:02):
And I don't know if he wants to do MLB
or The Mothership or Fox. Maybe he just likes doing
our show. Maybe, And I can't blame it all right,
when we come back, we have an NFL game, and
the NFL game is.
Speaker 4 (33:15):
Man man, did blank Oh need a night like that?
It could be any.
Speaker 2 (33:18):
Sport, okay, And we'll talk about the two tongue of
Iloa situation. He's cleared to play and probably playing this weekend,
so we'll hear from too a Tongue of Ioloa coming
up after this.
Speaker 1 (33:30):
Be sure to catch the live edition of The Dan
Patrick Show weekdays at nine am Eastern six am Pacific
on Fox Sports Radio and the iHeartRadio w app.
Speaker 2 (33:41):
To a tongue of ioloa. Clear to practice. Probably going
to play coming up this weekend.
Speaker 3 (33:50):
Let me see Jordan in South Carolina, then we're going
to play.
Speaker 12 (33:53):
Man.
Speaker 3 (33:54):
Did Blank need a game like that? Hey Jordan?
Speaker 12 (33:58):
Yeah?
Speaker 9 (33:58):
Hey, Dan, just wanted to call in, And first I
wanted to say how offended I was on your behalf
on Friday when half the audience thought that you would
not be back in on Monday after you told us
she would. But I'm calling to defend Marvin, and I
kind of looking at a different way. So to me,
the fact that he did not check in with you
(34:20):
over the weekend, that kind of tells me he's the
only one that truly believes you are a hashtag warrior.
So that's kind of the way I look at it.
He's like, hey, dp's will be back on Monday. He
told us himself. I don't need to check in with him.
Speaker 3 (34:36):
All right.
Speaker 2 (34:37):
Well, I mean I still see it a different way, Jordan,
because I think Seaton and Paulie and Fritzy knew I
was going to be back on Monday. I just think
Marvin didn't care. I'm being plain and simple.
Speaker 6 (34:48):
Wait, DP, I had a poll question better Warrior, Steph Curry,
Dan Patrick, Oh nice recovery.
Speaker 3 (34:56):
And how'd you vote?
Speaker 6 (34:58):
Dang? Come on all day, Come.
Speaker 3 (35:00):
On, time to play?
Speaker 2 (35:02):
Man?
Speaker 3 (35:03):
Did Blank need a game like that? Paulie?
Speaker 4 (35:06):
Just to recap it has to be stated that way,
just like Jeopardy, Dan, who would you like to go first?
Speaker 3 (35:10):
I want Todd to go first as always?
Speaker 6 (35:13):
Man?
Speaker 8 (35:13):
Did the Lions need a game like that? They went
into Minnesota and they wanted to give them their first
loss to Vikings. No Aiden Hutchinson, who's the toughest team
in the NFC North? Make a statement? Go into Minnesota
without Aiden and beat the Vikings the.
Speaker 3 (35:26):
Lions, Seaton? Man? Did Blank need a game like that?
Speaker 6 (35:32):
Man?
Speaker 3 (35:32):
Did Brandon McManus need a game like that?
Speaker 6 (35:37):
Yeah?
Speaker 11 (35:37):
Deep cut, Yeah yeah, dude just signed with the.
Speaker 3 (35:40):
Packers, kicks a forty five yarder to win it. Let's go.
I'm locked in, Diamon, Okay, locked in? Hey, there's no rules,
just right?
Speaker 11 (35:48):
Yeah, new man in town? All right, let's go, Marvin
man Common.
Speaker 6 (35:53):
Did the Eagles need a game like that? They need
a clean win against a divisional opponent. Good for them?
Speaker 3 (36:00):
Now? Is it? Man? Comma or you don't have to say.
Speaker 4 (36:03):
The word Comma, but I'd like a healthy pause.
Speaker 3 (36:05):
Okay, Paul, your turn, man, See.
Speaker 4 (36:08):
That really stresses man. Did Russell Wilson need a game
like that? National TV? Slow start, great second half. People
were putting dirt on his NFL grave in the first quarter.
Speaker 2 (36:21):
Yeah, I was gonna do Russell Wilson Junior the third,
so it would have been man, Comma, Did Rush need
a game like that?
Speaker 3 (36:29):
Shout out George Pickens. Yeah, it's true, some Macon.
Speaker 11 (36:33):
We're banging on Dereck Henry on morning. Well, he really
only had two good runs he did. He just kind
of really only had a couple of good plays that
those fellows took care for him. Yeah, but he gave
one handed grabs falling backwards.
Speaker 3 (36:45):
Look at what Russell Wilson just did. Only he could
put it right there. He threw it up to the
right people, and.
Speaker 11 (36:52):
You know, the decision making it's really just weird.
Speaker 3 (36:55):
Yeah, it's like, help me here, I'm throwing this pass.
Speaker 2 (36:57):
Help me Oh good, great catch there, man, And that's
just Russ B and Russ there. Let him cook Vince
in Austin, and that was man, Comma, Did Blank need
a game like that?
Speaker 3 (37:08):
Hey, Vince?
Speaker 13 (37:09):
Hey, guys, Good morning, Happy Monday. Well I remember Seaton
saying that Georgia would beat Texas, and when they came
to Texas before the Seaton started and I started a
rampage on Seaton. I actually have a Seaton voodoo doll.
I purchased a used te Reherman dollin sticking pins in
(37:29):
it since then, but Seaton's right, I guess. I guess
he was right. He usually is. And my wife hit
the doll from me because she was afraid what I
would do to it.
Speaker 2 (37:41):
Had Wait, you were sticking pins in a voodoo doll
because you were angry at Seaton.
Speaker 13 (37:48):
No, well yeah, he either.
Speaker 3 (37:51):
No yes or no. Vince, Yes, of course, what Seaton?
Speaker 7 (37:57):
You know?
Speaker 11 (37:59):
Look, I gotta tell Evince. I don't know what's going
on with that doll, but I've never had more health
problems in my entire life. Both of my knees are shot.
My ankle's killing me. My right elbow I can't use.
I think I broke my right wrist. Well that's just
off the top of my head. My back is killing me.
My lower back has been bothering me for I don't
know two months.
Speaker 4 (38:19):
Welcome then, Yeah, thanks a lot.
Speaker 3 (38:22):
Vince can you.
Speaker 2 (38:23):
I mean, I think you need to get a Vince
voodoo doll Seaton, and I think just not a mean
person like Vince.
Speaker 3 (38:29):
Oh you're not. Oh I'm not.
Speaker 6 (38:31):
I'm nice. Actually.
Speaker 3 (38:33):
Griffin in Cincinnati, Hey, griff.
Speaker 7 (38:42):
Hooday, Bengals dam Hooday. We're not quite there yet. We're
still under five hundred. We got to get there. Pieces
are coming together though, Bengals are still on the right track.
Three more quick things for you. Obviously the Hoosiers seven
to zero. Kurt signat what he's done. Dan, it is
mind bottling, not mind boggling, but Chas Michael. Michael's mind
(39:06):
bottling to the Indiana Football program, He's on fire. I
love Joey Vado. I love that you guys have a
great rapport. I wonder what he would be like in
a Graham Bensinger style interview show, because he's interested in
so many things. Maybe on ESTM plus sending him out
to go do some interviews with people. Maybe it's baseball centric,
who knows, but I would like to see him do
(39:27):
something like that. Okay, and then now that we're about
a third of the way through the NFL season, I
just wanted to get your thoughts on the Miami Dolphins
running back room and how that's all shaping up for you.
Speaker 2 (39:39):
Oh, we're so out of time talking about the Dolphins
running game.
Speaker 3 (39:44):
We can talk about too.
Speaker 2 (39:45):
A Tongue of Ilo coming up in ten minutes from now,
we'll hear from Tua and he's clear to practice and
I think he's going to play this weekend. Update the
poll results from the second hour of the program, Seaton.
Speaker 11 (39:59):
Yea, we got up there right now. This computer is crashing.
Maybe he was after last night, which is most true.
The Bucks will not win the NFC South, the Chargers
will not make the playoffs, or Lamar Jackson will win
his third MVP. Right now, the Chargers are not making
the playoffs, that is most true.
Speaker 2 (40:20):
Coming up final hour, we'll hear from the host of
The Bachelor and ESPN analyst Jesse Palmer will play the
Brownie James game, and we'll also hear from Tua. Tongue
of Ioloa busy sixty minutes in the on deck circle,
Hour two comes to a close.
