Speaker 1 (00:00):
You are listening to the Dan Patrick Show why on
Fox Sports Radio.
Speaker 2 (00:04):
He is an aspiring DJ, inspiring actor, and already a
great running back. He's b Jon Robinson, running back for
the Falcons. How are we feeling today?
Speaker 3 (00:14):
Yeah?
Speaker 4 (00:15):
Man, Well, first off, I just want to say hello
and gonna talk to you again. But feeling great. You know,
body's just a little sore, but you know I feel great.
I feel you know, refreshed obviously, you know, I gotta
get my body back to normal.
Speaker 5 (00:27):
But feel good.
Speaker 2 (00:29):
Wait, but what hurts after a game like that?
Speaker 4 (00:33):
You're more so just like sore kind of in your
legs and then my shoulders are a little sore. But
other than that, like I do as much, I try
to do as much as I can to to break
a lot of tackles, so I don't feel it the
next day. That's that's kind of one of the main
reasons why I try to do that. So but feel
pretty good.
Speaker 2 (00:49):
Did you see Saquon Barkley's backwards leap.
Speaker 5 (00:54):
Yeah, that was a that was unbelievable.
Speaker 4 (00:56):
Okay, I'm gonna lie like I've I've seen a lot
of things on the field. I've done a lot of
things on the field, but I obviously never seen that before.
Speaker 5 (01:02):
Like that was awesome.
Speaker 2 (01:03):
Have you even thought about doing something like that?
Speaker 5 (01:07):
Honestly?
Speaker 4 (01:08):
Like so in college, my second game of my college career,
I tried to jump over somebody and almost like broke
my neck. Was in Texas Tech and it was just
the craziest thing. So ever since that day, I haven't
even attempted. I've jumped over the lines and stuff, but
never over somebody. But now seeing that, I'm like, I
have to I have to try to challenge him on some.
Speaker 2 (01:28):
And there's gonna be a lot of imitators. Now you're
gonna see this in high school in college, and you
know you're gonna have and it's gonna look ugly. It's
like everybody wanted to shoot trees because Steph Curry was
shooting threes and it's not only you.
Speaker 4 (01:42):
Pretty I would definitely hope kids don't try that that
move because yeah, that's that's asking for injury. He just
got real lucky on that on that one, and it
looked very nice. Oh man, it was impressive, all right.
The acting career has Matthew mcconnie. Hey, you know fellow
Tech extra Longhorn gun is he helping you become an actor.
Speaker 3 (02:04):
I mean he gives me.
Speaker 4 (02:05):
He gives me tips and pointers all the time, and
I always ask him questions on like how to how
to become a better, better actor, especially like in the
off season.
Speaker 2 (02:13):
Why didn't he put you in his movies that would
help a lot instead of giving you tips?
Speaker 4 (02:17):
Well, because like he knows that I'm in I'm in
season and doing things. But definitely, like when I have
time to open that window and that slot up, then
then you know, then we'll definitely be talking about it.
Speaker 5 (02:29):
Oh, happy birthday to him. Shout shout out to.
Speaker 2 (02:31):
Him, Okay birthday. Yeah. When it comes to this team, Yeah,
where do you think you stand? Like, who's the best
team in the NF six?
Speaker 5 (02:42):
I think we are.
Speaker 2 (02:43):
You think you're better than Detroit and Philly?
Speaker 4 (02:46):
Then the Lions are playing great, you know, Philly is
playing great.
Speaker 5 (02:50):
But you know, I feel like we.
Speaker 4 (02:52):
Have a lot of you know, threats on this on
this team, and it's starting up to open up and
get better and better every single week. But I you know,
I think there's a lot of a lot of great teams,
but you know, I feel like we we have the
team that you know that that's playing, that's playing good,
playing positive, and you know, hopefully we just con seem
to just keep on rolling.
Speaker 2 (03:12):
B Sean Robinson Falcons running back. Uh, you go to Texas?
How did it field to beat the Cowboys?
Speaker 5 (03:20):
It felt good.
Speaker 4 (03:21):
I had a lot of a lot of text messages
after the game, a lot of people hitting me up
because obviously that's where I was at for three years,
so a lot a lot of Cowboy fans and they're
just like, man, you you didn't have to do this.
Speaker 3 (03:33):
It's my feat.
Speaker 5 (03:36):
Which was all fun.
Speaker 2 (03:37):
Were you a Cowboy fan?
Speaker 3 (03:39):
No?
Speaker 5 (03:39):
I wasn't. I wasn't. I didn't. I didn't have a team.
Speaker 4 (03:42):
Obviously I was around the Cowboys a lot, just because
you know, they I would I would be in Austin
and and that's who who the team was. And if
I went to Dallas sometimes like to train, like I
trained right across their facility, So just I just I'm
just around them all the time.
Speaker 5 (03:59):
But you know, it definitely felt good to get a
win on the on those guys.
Speaker 2 (04:02):
Wait a minute, how do you not have a team?
Growing up?
Speaker 4 (04:06):
So my my grandpa, So my grandpa, he was a
Pac twelve referee or pack ten referee, and he wasn't
supposed to root for a team like because he couldn't
root for anybody. So I just I just became the
same way, and I didn't root for nobody, and I
just became a player fan instead of like a like
a team fan. Okay, all right, favorite player growing up well,
(04:28):
Reggie Bush obviously I was still young, but Reggie Bush
at USC and then I love Dani and Thomason and
then Adrian Peterson.
Speaker 2 (04:37):
Wow, yep, yep, pretty good list. There are you allowed
to ask for the ball in the huddle?
Speaker 5 (04:44):
I'm not.
Speaker 4 (04:45):
I'm not.
Speaker 2 (04:46):
I mean, receivers do that though, Bjean don't come back.
I was open.
Speaker 4 (04:51):
Yeah, yeah, no, no, no, what we'll definitely talk about on
the sideline. I tried not to like say anything in
the huddle just because like kirkass to like say the play,
so I just stay quiet. But then sometimes I'll be
like like Kirk, like look at this, like it'll be open,
like and then he's like yep, yep, and he sees it.
And then a lot of the time he's gonna throw,
(05:11):
which which is pretty cool.
Speaker 2 (05:12):
So it doesn't matter if like if you said, hey,
you know, I'm ready I think this play will work.
Speaker 4 (05:19):
You can't even say something like that that that will Yeah, No,
I can't. It's just like in the play, none of
us will really say anything. But then on the sideline though,
then we'll talk about it, and then we'll get it
up to the OX coordinator and then then we'll probably
run it the next series or a couple series later.
Speaker 2 (05:37):
He's kind of like old enough to be your dad, right, Kirk? Absolutely, yeah, Jay,
no doubt about it. Do you make fun of that?
Speaker 4 (05:46):
I did? I definitely did. I was like, you know,
I was definitely like yo, Kirk, you know, you know,
you know, you're definitely give my dad man, like just
real talk.
Speaker 3 (05:57):
Uh.
Speaker 5 (05:58):
He just laughs about it.
Speaker 4 (06:00):
And it's crazy because like he was in college when
I was like four.
Speaker 5 (06:07):
That's that's cool too.
Speaker 2 (06:08):
You should you guys should change wardrobes for a day.
Let him dress like you normally. Do you dress like
he does?
Speaker 4 (06:15):
Honestly, I'll think he I don't think he'll accept it.
I don't dress too crazy at all, so I think
he'll look pretty uh pretty pretty smooth. And then with me, yeah,
we'll see how that goes. What's with the djang that
you're doing now? So actor football player djang Yeah. Yeah,
I just I just you know, I try to like
to do a lot of different things, you know, some
(06:37):
things that you know, I'm not I.
Speaker 5 (06:38):
Could be good at.
Speaker 2 (06:39):
What's your DJ game?
Speaker 5 (06:42):
So I don't have a name yet.
Speaker 4 (06:44):
I think it's gonna be DJ spin Zone, but just
because I like spin on the field and do stuff
like that. But I'm trying to see if it's not
cringey still but DJ spin Yes, spin Okay, DJ spin Zone,
so like but you know, we'll see, we'll see that
(07:05):
that that cuts it. But yeah, I just I just
like to do a lot of different stuff and you know,
expand my my broads and things. And you know, I
think DJ and is like really cool and a really
cool energy changer for you. And then obviously acting is
you know, you gotta work really hard at it. And
I just love to just like work in and do
things like that. But yeah, those are those are two
(07:26):
cool things that I that I've conquered, that I've done.
Speaker 3 (07:29):
Well.
Speaker 2 (07:29):
Congrats another big win and great performance by you. You
beat the Cowboys so always always good in Atlanta. Great
to talk to you again. Thanks thanks for joining us.
Speaker 5 (07:41):
Yeah, absolutely appreciate you.
Speaker 2 (07:42):
That that's b Jeon Robinson.
Speaker 1 (07:45):
Be sure to catch the live edition of The Dan
Patrick Show weekdays at nine am Eastern six am Pacific
on Fox Sports Radio and the iHeartRadio.
Speaker 2 (07:53):
Wapp Whole question. Uh, We'll have more suggestions coming up.
We have one the first hour, who had the worst weekend?
Kind of a surprise winner for me. The new Foliage
flannels available in store at Danpatrick dot com eight seven
to seven to three DP show.
Speaker 3 (08:11):
Good morning.
Speaker 2 (08:12):
If you're watching on Peacock, thank you for downloading the
app or radio affiliates around the country. Football coming up tonight.
The Buccaneers are getting nine against the Chiefs, but they
expect this going to be a higher scoring game. Over
under forty five and a half. And in case you're wondering,
the over under passing yards for Patrick Mahomes just under
(08:34):
two hundred and fifty and for Baker Mayfield Junior the
third around two hundred and thirty six as well. But
that's a big number with Tampa, and Tampa's done well
on the road. Baker doesn't necessarily do well in primetime.
But the Chiefs all they do is win. Guest Paulie, Wow.
Speaker 6 (08:57):
Okay, we're gonna play that NFL news. A piece of
NFL news just came through moments ago.
Speaker 2 (09:05):
Moments ago.
Speaker 6 (09:06):
You can fill in the blank, okay, trade no firing.
Blank has been fired by blank. Oh, blank has been
fired by blank.
Speaker 7 (09:22):
Todd, Doug Peterson, Let go by Jackson?
Speaker 8 (09:25):
All right, Seaton, Uh, I'm gonna go with my pick
for who's going to be fired first this year.
Speaker 2 (09:35):
I'm going to go with Dennis Allen.
Speaker 6 (09:37):
Was his preseason pick.
Speaker 2 (09:38):
That was my preseason pick of coach that will be
fired first this day. All right, Marvin, do you want
to wager a guess?
Speaker 7 (09:44):
Eber Flus fired by the Bears.
Speaker 2 (09:46):
They don't fire coaches midseason. You're pick dam they my
usually don't my pick. Doug Peterson, he made you look good.
Speaker 6 (10:00):
Dennis Allen has been fired by the New Orleans Saints.
Speaker 2 (10:05):
Chatz filter as I'm celebrated.
Speaker 4 (10:07):
Yes, yeh.
Speaker 8 (10:08):
Can we climb after that because I called happy that
seat and got it right correct. I'm sorry that he
lost his job though, Yeah, but we're happy that you
got it right. Yeah, but I got it on the
Yeah you did? Yeah?
Speaker 6 (10:20):
Yeah, here's the Saints season.
Speaker 2 (10:22):
Are insider there?
Speaker 3 (10:24):
Yeah?
Speaker 2 (10:24):
Source is close to me.
Speaker 6 (10:25):
Say the Saints won their first game against Carolina forty
seven to ten. They smoked Dallas forty four to nineteen.
Since then, they've lost one, two, three, four, six, seven
games in a row and ugly ones too with ten
points eight points including got lost to Carolina.
Speaker 2 (10:41):
Yep, I'm watching that game, and you know you got Kamara,
you got car you got a Lamvey, you got Taysom Hill.
I mean, you got all these guys, and then Carolina
is hanging in there, and uh, I could see where
that could cost you after how many losses around six seven, seven?
Speaker 3 (11:03):
Wow?
Speaker 5 (11:05):
Wow?
Speaker 3 (11:05):
Yep?
Speaker 2 (11:06):
Yeah, Yes, Mark.
Speaker 7 (11:07):
Derek carrs O septem VP, that's what he was.
Speaker 2 (11:12):
Definitely well two weeks after two weeks he was one
of the front runners for septem VP.
Speaker 6 (11:18):
Hope he keeps that on her Yeah.
Speaker 7 (11:21):
Trophy.
Speaker 2 (11:22):
Coming up, we'll give you our best and worst of
the weekend. Tony Gonzalez, the Hall of Famer with Amazon
Prime Thursday nights, will join us as well. Full slate
of NBA coming up tonight. Uh, recapping over the weekend.
You know the Lions, that offense is great. The defense, Uh,
they don't have a pass rush without Aiden Hutchinson. But
(11:44):
the defense is ranked. That probably has to do with
how good it was earlier in the season. But they
roll the Packers and the weather not good Bills. They
got by the Dolphins, the Ravens roll Eagles one four
in a row. They got the Cowboys coming up this
next weekend. Bear's got rolled Falcons over the Cowboys. Commanders
(12:08):
have won three straight. It's this is where you have
enough of a sample size where you go I kind
of figure out who this team is. Here's Dan Campbell,
the Lions head coach.
Speaker 3 (12:20):
But I know this.
Speaker 9 (12:21):
I'm not shocked one bit that we came out of
here and played pretty good football out in the elements.
I just were built for this, man, And it doesn't matter.
And just because we play indoors, it doesn't matter. Man.
We can play anywhere. We can play in the snow
and play in the rain, play in the mud. That's
just us and we're built to win.
Speaker 3 (12:39):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (12:39):
I mean, I'm gonna believe him if I'm in the
locker room and he tells me that before we go
out where it's raining, you know, not good conditions at Lambeau.
Sure we're gonna win. Jared Goff is on a burner,
right now he's completed eighty almost eighty three percent of
his passes over the last six games. That is the
best for any quarterback over any six games span in
(13:02):
NFL history.
Speaker 10 (13:05):
Statu the day start of the day, stat of the
day start of the day Statu to day Stata the
day stat of the day.
Speaker 2 (13:15):
Statu Bronchivant Panini America was that the Lions first game
outdoors this season.
Speaker 6 (13:20):
Uh, they were at the Cardinals. That's inside, at the
Cowboys earlier this year. That's insight at the vikings in
you know, and that's it. Everyone else has been home.
Speaker 7 (13:31):
Okay.
Speaker 2 (13:32):
By the way, it was a couple of weeks ago
when I came in on a Monday and I had
spoken to somebody affiliated with the Rams and I said, hey,
you know, if you guys lose on Thursday night, and
you know, I kind of laid out the framework here
of if you lose, are you going to be a seller.
That's when we heard about Cooper Cup being available. Teams
(13:53):
inquired about that. They win that game. They won again.
Cooper Cup had eleven catches for a hunt in four yards,
so he has six hundred and one receptions in ninety
six games. That's tied with Keenan Allen and Antonio Brown
for the fastest to six hundred receptions in NFL history.
Speaker 11 (14:15):
Ooh, cow stall of a day, stanlea day, stall of
a day, Stantata Day. This is the stule of the day.
Speaker 2 (14:31):
And he's missed a lot of time. He could he
could have that record. He could have blown right by
these guys. But eleven catches. If you have Pouka Nakua,
as long as he's not trying to smack somebody in
the face, you got Stafford and you got Cooper Cup,
you can stay in any game. Seattle's frustrating. It's not
you know, the Legion of Boom. It's not a great defense.
(14:53):
But there's something missing there, you know. Gino man, he
it was a good story. Not necessarily now, I'd probably
send DK metcalf packing. I'd probably say, you know, let's
see what we can get for him. Have we seen
his best work? But Seattle, I thought, you know, home
(15:15):
field advantage. Give credit to the Rams though, you know,
those are those games that now you're in the mix.
Now you're not selling. Maybe you're buying the Chargers beat
the Browns, the Jamis Winston feel good story, didn't last long.
But that Charger defense has allowed twenty points or last
(15:36):
in each of its first eight games of a season.
That doesn't happen very often. Twenty nineteen Patriots did that.
But you know it's not a great offense. But they
have their moments. Though they have their moments there.
Speaker 6 (15:50):
Yes, Pauline, you're not suggesting we buy into the Chargers again,
are you? Because you seem like, no, no, no, I'm
not your first team all buying I was.
Speaker 2 (15:59):
I can't anymore.
Speaker 6 (16:00):
But if you bail now though.
Speaker 2 (16:01):
Not, no, I'm bailing. I bailed. I bailed. Uh when
did they break my heart? Well? Every year? So after last.
Speaker 7 (16:09):
Year, bale or bail?
Speaker 6 (16:10):
Were hail to the Chargers.
Speaker 2 (16:14):
Or I thought you would stick? No, no, no, no,
I I do. I thought they'd be a playoff team.
But I can't get my hope. So now I've done
that before, I'm not going.
Speaker 5 (16:23):
To do that.
Speaker 2 (16:24):
I've learned. It took me a long time.
Speaker 6 (16:26):
They just beat the powerhouses that are the Saints in
the Browns.
Speaker 2 (16:29):
I know, I know, and it's easy to jump on
that bandwagon. Yes, Marvin, these aren't your dad's Chargers.
Speaker 8 (16:35):
Well, what I'm just saying the Chargers are a sneaky
great team, A sneaky great team, Okay, a sneaky really
good team. I think they're a sneaky good team. I
think they're sneaky really good.
Speaker 4 (16:51):
M oh well, I thought they'd run the ball.
Speaker 2 (17:00):
I thought they played good defense. And that's a formula
that Jim Harbaugh has had throughout his coaching. Slang in
it too, though, I don't know if they're slanging it.
Slanging it.
Speaker 8 (17:09):
Yeah, they're sneaky good. At you a pie to the face.
What let's try to say? I mean, you said they're
good and then you went, which sound like they're very good.
Speaker 2 (17:22):
No, I'm not on their bandwagon, No no, I'm just
they're kind of blah with their offense. Okay, but they
need a receiver at the trade deadline, Yes, they could
use one. I saw where maybe they could ask for
Mike Williams back from the Jets. Hey, you guys aren't
using him? Can we have yes?
Speaker 5 (17:41):
Pull?
Speaker 6 (17:41):
Do the Chargers have a quality win this year? They
beat the Raiders, the Panthers, the Broncos, the Saints, and then.
Speaker 8 (17:48):
They are beating the teams they're supposed to be and
are competitive against the two what they lost to what
the Chiefs.
Speaker 6 (17:56):
They lost the Chiefs by a touchdown. They lost to
the Cardinals by two and lost the Steelers by ten
in September. But you know what, they could prove themselves
next week hosting the Titans.
Speaker 2 (18:08):
Wow, another quality win.
Speaker 7 (18:11):
Yes, Tom and a Jim Harborough coach team. Maybe they're
less likely to slip on the banana pel like previous
Charger teams so down to the last few weeks. Maybe
they pull out games in the past that they would love.
Speaker 2 (18:19):
Are you in or out on the Chargers?
Speaker 7 (18:22):
Ultimately I am out on the Chargers, but I think
because well, I'm not making any bold predictions about how
far they're gonna go. I just think that there are
a couple of games.
Speaker 4 (18:32):
Out was the question that was, Okay, you know, how
do you play the game?
Speaker 2 (18:36):
It's in or out. I'd like to put a little
cavity either you know, we don't cavey on it, Marvin
in or ount Chargers.
Speaker 7 (18:47):
In to do what?
Speaker 2 (18:48):
I don't know, it's just called in or out. How
about playoff appearance in Okay, Seaton, Oh you're in? I
am in Los Angeles Chargers of Anaheim.
Speaker 8 (18:59):
Was there a sneaky very good team. I am they
are sneaky, very good. Yeah, Paulie in or out?
Speaker 6 (19:05):
I am in next year, next year. Yeah, I'm the charge.
Speaker 2 (19:09):
I'm in on the Chargers making the playoffs.
Speaker 6 (19:11):
You were just out.
Speaker 4 (19:13):
No, I'm not on their bandwagon, big picture. I had
them going to the super Bowl a couple of years ago.
Speaker 2 (19:19):
Different team, always a different team.
Speaker 6 (19:21):
No, you're simultaneously in and out.
Speaker 2 (19:23):
I'm I'm in on them making the playoffs, but nothing
after that.
Speaker 7 (19:28):
Yes, smart, so you're in, but you're not in in.
Speaker 2 (19:31):
I'm not in in. Oh I'm out. O. Okay, Well,
what what constitutes in in? That would mean that I'm
win playoff? AMC titled Well, okay, yeah, they're they're gonna
win a playoff game, at least at least I think
I'm in in.
Speaker 5 (19:45):
Okay?
Speaker 8 (19:46):
Is that enough of being in in that I think
they'll win a playoff game?
Speaker 2 (19:51):
Sure, that's fine, this helps their cause.
Speaker 8 (19:54):
How about this you get electrocuted if they I do
Chargers because it's a bolts. How about instead of a
pile of the face, we dial it up. How about
we tase one another? Have you ever seen video of
people tasing each other? H No, I've seen people getting tased. Yeah, no,
that's awful. But when you watch people do it like
on a dare and they're like, hey, all right, it's
(20:17):
kind of it's hilarious at how awful it is because
people drastically underestimated.
Speaker 2 (20:22):
Oh my god. It's like when I see that slap
fighting and you could see somebody settling in and then
they get smacked and all of a sudden you can
see the reality leaving them. They get the reality knocked
out of them, and you're like, oh my god, did
that hurt. But the tasing thing, you think, it's like
you get like just a little a dog dog collar shot.
(20:47):
I've done that before with my dog where we have
a you know, canine fence and you walk out to
see if it works, and all of a sudden, yeah,
I would never run through that fence. My dog has
though chasing coyote. Oh really? Oh yeahs the coyote. Oh
my god, she she just took off. She she bit
(21:08):
the bullet. You could hear go and then boom, she
was gone. I can actual word yeah ouch, yes, yes, Pauling.
Speaker 6 (21:17):
Just to put a bow on it with the Chargers.
They finished the season with the Broncos Patriots and Raiders.
Speaker 2 (21:23):
They're not playing anybody except for the Chiefs.
Speaker 6 (21:26):
Have a winnable of December.
Speaker 2 (21:30):
Super Bowl. Still no still room. No, I'm in. I'm
in on them making the plants.
Speaker 3 (21:37):
I'm in.
Speaker 2 (21:38):
Come on, Los Angeles. I can't hear you.
Speaker 6 (21:40):
I can't hear you.
Speaker 2 (21:42):
Make some noise. Come on.
Speaker 1 (21:46):

Speaker 2 (21:58):
He's the Hall of Famer Tony Unsealence joining his courtesy
of Amazon Prime Video. Thursday night. It'll be a great one.
It's the Bengals at the Ravens kickoff eight point fifteen
on Thursday. Tony, good to see you again. I just
pose this question. If the Chiefs play the Lions right
now on a neutral field, who do you have.
Speaker 10 (22:21):
Right now? If they played it right now, I would
probably go with the Lions. They look fantastic in all phases.
Speaker 3 (22:30):
I mean, they're well coached.
Speaker 10 (22:32):
Jared Golf is the best quarterback in the NFL right now.
He's playing the football. That level that he's playing at
right now, it is right up there with your Peyton,
with your tom at their peaks like he's looking really
really well. The running game. Everything's going for them right now. However,
in a playoff game, I go with number fifteen Patrick Mahomes.
(22:57):
The way he shows up in those playoff games, he
just figures you out.
Speaker 3 (23:01):
He's the ultimate chess player.
Speaker 10 (23:03):
Closer second half, He've given that offense offense time by
the time they hit the playoffs.
Speaker 3 (23:09):
I think with DeAndre Hopkins.
Speaker 10 (23:11):
They get some guys back healthy to catch them. With
that defense, I think their defense is one of the
best in the NFL. I think playoff time, I'm taking Chiefs.
If we played right now, maybe I think the Lions
probably get them.
Speaker 2 (23:22):
Any part of you think how lucky Travis Kelsey is
to be able to play with Mahomes playing that position
you played in Kansas City.
Speaker 3 (23:30):
He's there.
Speaker 2 (23:31):
Any jealousy looking at Kelsey and.
Speaker 10 (23:35):
Mahomes, You know, Dan, you jealousy is such an ugly word.
Speaker 3 (23:43):
I look at Travis, I couldn't be happier for him.
Speaker 10 (23:46):
He's in a great position with Andy and Andy Reid
is the big part of that too. You cannot ignore.
With Patrick Mahomes, it's the perfect storm to be in
for an offense. But you know, I love traf. Travis
is you know the guys in the league. He's probably
one of the guys that I that I know, you
know some probably the most. I've getting old a lot
(24:07):
of guys that I used to be prisent. But I
could be happy for Travis. He's doing it the right
way on and off the field.
Speaker 3 (24:12):
All his success. It's been great to watch.
Speaker 10 (24:15):
But yeah, I guess a little bit of jealousy could
be in them about ten percent of me because I'm
a competitor. Of course, who wouldn't love to be in
that situation. But other than that, man, I couldn't wish them.
I wish him all the best. I hope he gets
all the records, and I hope he keeps winning super Bowls.
Speaker 2 (24:28):
Who's the best tight end of all? Ton?
Speaker 3 (24:32):
Now that's another one.
Speaker 10 (24:33):
And I think it confidently speaking or or politically speaking,
because there is a presidential race coming up to it.
Speaker 3 (24:39):
Am I gonna go? Are we gonna do politics? That'll
be doing?
Speaker 10 (24:41):
Uh?
Speaker 2 (24:42):
I want honest, I want honesty.
Speaker 3 (24:45):
Uh well, certainly my name is in that ring.
Speaker 2 (24:49):
I think, Okay, how about I take you out.
Speaker 10 (24:52):
If you take me Ooh, that's a tough Probably I'm
gonna go with Kelsey.
Speaker 3 (24:58):
I'm gonna go Kelsey.
Speaker 10 (24:59):
I think you can't ignore what he's done with in
that offense, the yards that he's put up, the thousand
yard seasons.
Speaker 3 (25:07):
The clutch play, because that's another thing too.
Speaker 10 (25:09):
It's how well do they play when when the game
is on the line and you count on them when
the game I think that's any player, that's any quarterback
to me, I don't care what you do during the
regular season. What do you do when the lights are
on in that fourth quarter and you got to make
a play. That's when you separate yourself as one of
the best of all time, And certainly Travis's shown that he.
Speaker 5 (25:26):
Can do that.
Speaker 2 (25:27):
So Gronk would be your other.
Speaker 10 (25:29):
I like, I love Gronk because because of his combination,
the way he blocks that that you can't throw that out.
I know that's kind of a lost art of the
tight end. They don't have to do that too much anymore.
But the way he blocked and was able to catch
the ball. Tom Brady, I mean, another situation, very good
to be in with old Tom Brady throwing it to
you all all those years.
Speaker 3 (25:49):
So yeah, those two guys, I'd put him.
Speaker 5 (25:51):
At the top.
Speaker 2 (25:52):
Can you tell if if you're not blindfolded, but I
didn't tell you who was throwing the ball to you?
Of your quarterbacks, are you able to tell with how
they throw to you that that quarterback is going to
be different than that quarterback you played for, you know,
with a lot of quarterbacks. But is there a difference
in how the ball comes to you?
Speaker 3 (26:12):
Yeah, definitely.
Speaker 10 (26:13):
So when I stowed up in Atlanta, I was thirty
three years old and I played with a young Matt Ryan,
and just the first day, you can just see, okay, oh,
this is the difference. And I'd see it when I
go to the Pro Bowls and I play with like
Peyton and Tom and you get around those quarterbacks, you
see the difference right there.
Speaker 4 (26:35):
You know.
Speaker 2 (26:36):
I had a workout it though. What is that difference?
Speaker 10 (26:39):
I think the ball placement, the ball placement and the
way it comes to your hands. It's a difference, you know,
between you know, here two feet behind you or writing
your test or right out in front of you coming
out of the break. I was with Tom Brady one
time throwing the ball and I come back after you
threw me it pays. When I retired and I come
(27:00):
back to the where he was throwing it, and he goes, hey,
I'm sorry about that. I'll get the ball out in
front of me. And I'm like, what the hell you
talking about?
Speaker 1 (27:06):
Perfect?
Speaker 5 (27:07):
That was perfect?
Speaker 10 (27:08):
And he said no, I got to put it out
two feet in front of HIMIM like, what are you
talking about? And he says, because if I put it
out two feet in front of you, that's an extra
three yards on the yards after catch for you and
you can get up the sideline. And I'm like, oh, shoot,
like that, okay, that's ask me why okay?
Speaker 3 (27:23):
Tom? And and stuff like that that separates you.
Speaker 10 (27:26):
It's those little things that separates the great ones from
the from the just the good ones.
Speaker 2 (27:30):
He's Tony Gonzalis, the Hall of Famer Thursday Night Football
Crew and they started seven Eastern. It'll be the Bengals
at the ravens Lamar Jackson is making it look easy
at times there, Tony, I know it's not. But who's
your MVP candidate? Halfway through?
Speaker 10 (27:49):
I would put him at the top of the list,
but maybe even his running back at the top of
the list. And old old King Henry and I really
like what Jared Goff's doing.
Speaker 3 (27:59):
I think Jared is hitting his stride right now.
Speaker 10 (28:01):
If he continues to do this for the rest of
the season and they keep winning, you better damn well
put him his name in that list too. But Lamar,
what what He's making it look so easy? It's like,
what do you do? Do you do you rush? Do
you blitz him? If you do that, he'll beat you
with his arm, He'll get the ball out. If you don't,
you drop back and keep everything in front of him
like they tried to do yesterday against him.
Speaker 3 (28:22):
He's just gonna you know, he can just take off
and run and every.
Speaker 10 (28:25):
Once you know, it's it's one of those things that
it's it's They are looking.
Speaker 3 (28:30):
Really really good now.
Speaker 10 (28:31):
However, I want to see what they do in the
playoffs against against Kansas City. Can you beat Patrick Mahomes
and Travis and Chris Jones? Can you can you beat
them when it's all on the line and it all counts.
Speaker 3 (28:45):
That's the showdown that we're all looking forward to right now.
But right now, Lamar probably would get my vote if
I had to cast you right now.
Speaker 2 (28:52):
You didn't play where there was a lot of soap opera,
you know, gosship, you know, dealing with the outside noise,
like playing for the Cowboys, like you have to you
have to gear up to go into that. I'm guessing
you're playing in Kansas City, you're playing in Atlanta. I mean,
you're not necessarily playing in big market or here's America's team.
(29:14):
But I don't know what that would be like that
you have to deal with that as well as trying
to play in the NFL.
Speaker 3 (29:23):
It's got to be difficult.
Speaker 10 (29:25):
We've asked, you know, Dak Prescott when he comes on
the show, how do you deal with this pressure? And
he's like, you just got to ignore it? And I
got to believe that's what it takes. But it's also
one of those things too, like how can you ignore it?
You know, and that anything you say or anything you do,
it's going to be magnified and everybody's gonna talk about it.
Speaker 3 (29:43):
And it's like that new the New York markets.
Speaker 10 (29:46):
I mean, look at Aaron Rodgers and the Jets right now,
it's soap opera that's that's going to be played.
Speaker 3 (29:52):
But if I was ever in that situation, I don't know.
Speaker 10 (29:57):
I really think my mentality the way I play football.
Speaker 3 (30:01):
Was at the top, and that's all that mattered to me.
Speaker 10 (30:04):
And these guys, you know, sometimes they're working on their brand,
they're working on their life after football already.
Speaker 3 (30:10):
And I get that that makes sense. It's what you
got to do. It's smart. Uh. But for me, it
would have.
Speaker 10 (30:15):
Just been football, football, football, then brand and everything else that.
Speaker 3 (30:18):
Came with it.
Speaker 2 (30:19):
I know you love playing basketball. The best player pickup
wise that you played against was.
Speaker 10 (30:26):
Who pickup wise? Uh? Well, there's probably some people you
wouldn't know, but we used to. We used to play
in the league out here in LA during the off season.
You know, my off season. I didn't touch football during
the offseason ever, argue it was like OTAs. I played basketball,
pick up basketball every single day. And I played with
(30:46):
the pros during their off season. And I remember bow Outlaw.
Remember remember Bo Outlaw? The uh I think he played
for Orlando with some stuff. I remember playing pick up
with him and he would just he was killing all
of us, all the pros and everything. I was like,
why is this guy not an all start? The way
he beats up on everybody in this pickup game. I
was surprised. And he played a long time in the
league anyway. He's a good player, but he was. He
(31:07):
was probably the best one I ever played with.
Speaker 2 (31:08):
But you didn't play against Kobe or anybody like that
in pickup games.
Speaker 10 (31:12):
No, we played like Caul Pierce bo outlawed, I think
Antoine Jameson, like all the guys in LA.
Speaker 3 (31:20):
It was called the real run, uh, and we'd go play.
Speaker 10 (31:23):
And the best thing about it too, I remember, this
is what stood out from different pickups for all you
pick up basketball players out here.
Speaker 3 (31:28):
He's a great rule. Uh.
Speaker 10 (31:30):
They played defense calls the foul and I love that
because they were like defense, not the offense. You can't
call foul if you're on offense, you call him, call
about if you're on defense, which keeps honesty, that keeps
the game moving. And then they played to I think
we played the five points oh so quick quick quick
games and rotating especially got people waiting, And I'm like,
(31:50):
this is our pickup games would always be. It was
a beautiful way to play pick up basketball.
Speaker 2 (31:54):
What about celebrities in LA? Anybody fun game.
Speaker 3 (31:58):
And never players glebed.
Speaker 10 (31:59):
I just moved to back to San Monica and I
heard Andy not Now what's his name? Adam Standler. I
heard he plays at the at the Reed Park up here,
and I've been up there a few times. I haven't
seen him yet, so I'm waiting. I'm waiting for that shot.
I'd love to play play against him. We're both old,
so it'll be a good gag.
Speaker 2 (32:14):
Sailor carries the ball, though, Tony does he? Yeah, yeah,
he carries the ball.
Speaker 3 (32:19):
I heard he's got a good shot though.
Speaker 2 (32:20):
No, no, no, no, it's ugly.
Speaker 3 (32:22):
It is.
Speaker 2 (32:23):
Yeah, I mean he does make shots, but it's an
ugly shot.
Speaker 3 (32:28):
Okay, Well it goes in, Dan, that's what it's supposed
to go in. Right.
Speaker 2 (32:32):
It doesn't go in as often as it probably could
have if he had had some good coaching. I'd rather
look good and miss than not look good in make Tony.
I mean, that's the difference.
Speaker 5 (32:43):
Really, you know, that's not that interesting.
Speaker 3 (32:45):
That is interesting to make there. I don't know if
I believe that did.
Speaker 9 (32:48):
No.
Speaker 2 (32:48):
Well, there was a baseball player who when he struck out,
he just wanted to know if he looked good striking out.
Speaker 10 (32:57):
Uh, you'd be perfect in the Dallas market in the Yes.
Speaker 2 (33:00):
Mark, working on your brand. Great to talk to you.
Have fun on Thursday night. Good to catch up with
you again.
Speaker 3 (33:08):
Yeah good see you that.
Speaker 2 (33:08):
Take care, Tony gounzoons
