It's our one on this Tuesday, Dan and the dan
ET's Dan Patrick Show come on in stay awhile fully
assembled today the Minister of Humor, Fritzi Seaton in the
back row. Marvin Paully yours truly upfront chiefs over the
Buccaneers in overtime. They now are eight no. It's weird
to be undefeated, to be eight to no and feel
like an underdog of sorts. We'll talk about that coming up.

(00:27):
Bill Cower, Hall of Fame coach, will join us. Also
Mike Florio from Pro Football Talk NBC Sports with the
trade deadline, the deals that will be done, the deals
that should be done, So we'll talk to Florio about
that as well. Eight seven to seven three DP Show

Good morning, those watching on Peacock, Thank you downloading the

that carry this previously award nominated program. All right, we'll
have a stat of Day poll question Play of the
Day operators sitting by Tyler taking your phone calls eight

(01:08):
seven to seven three DP show college basketball last night,
a weird NBA game. I'm watching the Clippers and the Spurs,
and the Spurs are up by I think twenty six
after one quarter, and I go, all right, Clippers ended
up winning the game, so you're up. It's hard to
be up by I think twenty six points after one

(01:29):
quarter and you're the Spurs and they're playing without Greg Popovich.
But Clippers came back. I watched some of Duke against
Maine with Cooper Flagg projected to be the number one
pick overall with next year's NBA draft, and then back
and forth with the football game, which was a lot
more competitive from the Buccaneers perspective because you don't have

(01:49):
your two best receivers in there. And they kept it close,
close enough to gwinto overtime. And you could even see
the grimace on Baker Mayfield's face when they lost the
coin toss, because Baker Mayfield new, well, here's the game.
Mahomes has the ball. Patrick Mahomes is six to zero
in regular season overtime games. He's the only quarterback to

(02:13):
have an unblemished record in six or more overtime games.
Terry Bradshaw was five and zero all time in regular
season overtime games.

Speaker 3 (02:23):
Stat of the Day, Stat of the Day, That beast
stat of the day. Stat of the day.

Speaker 4 (02:29):
Here comes that what stat of the day.

Speaker 2 (02:35):
Brought to you by Pennini America, the official trading cards
of the program. I told you you would love those flannels,
The Foliage flannels available in store at Danpatrick dot com.
This first Hour brought to you by tire rack dot com,
the official tire expert of the DP show. Go to

use tired Decision Guide, full lineup of Continental tires, special offers,

(02:57):
free Roadhanzard protection, mobile installation. Tirerac dot com is the
way tire buying should be. The Chiefs now have seven
comeback wins this season. That's tied with the oh Let's
see two thousand Raiders and nineteen eighty three Cowboys for
the most comeback wins through the first eight games of
a season all time. Now, I don't know if this

(03:19):
is the scary proposition of that defense is good, the
offense is going to get better. It feels like they've
had a different starting lineup from the skill position perspective
every single month. So September was different than October, and
November looks to be different as well. You get DeAndre
Hopkins in there, like you're starting to have that plug

(03:41):
in play a lot like the Patriots used to have.
The Patriots year to year, it felt like they didn't
have the same starting lineup when it came to skilled
position guys. Now you would still have Gronk and their
Edelman or Wes Welker, but a lot of replaceable parts.
And I think that's what's been great about what Andy
Reid and Patrick mahoonme is done is they say to

(04:02):
the defense, keep us in the game and we'll win it.
And that's what you see when Mahomes has the ball.
He has now become Tom Brady. Give him the ball,
game them a line you're going to lose, plain and simple.

Speaker 3 (04:16):
Now.

Speaker 2 (04:16):
I thought that they looked better, more aggressive, Kelsey looked good.
You got the Hopkins aspect here. Kareem Hunt, anybody could
have had him. He had a good game as well.
The plug and play and that goes back to the
front office, that goes back to the head coach, and
certainly goes back to the quarterback you give.

Speaker 3 (04:34):
Him a chance. There's time on the clock.

Speaker 2 (04:36):
Now there's controversy at the end of the game, or
at least I thought the Buccaneers should have gone for two,
because now you can worry about Mahomes getting the ball
back with thirty seconds to go. I wouldn't have been
concerned about that. I would have you score a touchdown,
go for two. You're on the road. I don't want
Mahomes getting the ball. I'm going to take my chance.

(04:57):
And look, that division is up grabs, the Buccaneers and
the Falcons, and you know these games can be the
difference between winning or not. But this is where sometimes
you get caught up in analytics and there are certain
players where I'll say, here's your analytics, and this is
what you can do with them. I want to make

(05:18):
sure that if I have a chance to beat Mahomes,
I'm going to take it.

Speaker 3 (05:22):
I'm down at the two yard line.

Speaker 2 (05:24):
Now I know I don't have my best receivers in there,
and this isn't after the fact, this was during I'd
be like, I'm going to go. I'm going to go
for this because we've seen when Mahomes gets that opportunity,
he is going to make you pay every single time,
But the Buccaneers had their chances played pretty well. Here
is Todd Bowles on not going for two points.

Speaker 1 (05:48):
It's a tough way to finish the game. Did you
get any thought to going for two touchdown there.

Speaker 5 (05:52):
At the end, Kyle Arry Minor, we want to get
at the overtime.

Speaker 3 (05:55):
With the wet conditions on the field, we felt like
we had to go in overtime instead of go for two.

Speaker 1 (05:59):
So we had our shots and all we lost the game.

Speaker 3 (06:03):
You know, here's a sidebar.

Speaker 2 (06:05):
Can we have somebody with a microphone so we can
hear the reporters a little better when they asked the questions.
I mean this is decades now. I've been to hundreds
and hundreds of press conferences. Can we make it so
we could understand the reporter and instead of you turn
up the volume really loud and then you'll get the answer.

Speaker 3 (06:24):
Yes, Tom, I love, we all love.

Speaker 6 (06:25):
That you've opened the door for pet Peeve Tuesday, because
there could be other pet peeves in this room and
that is a great start to why can't we hear
clearly the reporter's question?

Speaker 2 (06:34):
Okay, I did open the pet peeve door, and I
don't know if this is going to be an onslaught
of pet peeves today, but I'm open.

Speaker 3 (06:42):
I'm open to that. My pet peeve is not to
hear your pet peeves. This is what I'm saying.

Speaker 7 (06:46):
Yes, Pauline, I don't know if this is a pet peeve,
but if you were listening at the end of the
game to Akman, he was really adamant that the Bucks
should do whatever they can to run the clock and
not burn that time out with thirty seconds left at
the one and a half yard line, It's like, oh no,
let it run a little bit, call time out at twenty,
call two plays, and then worst case scenario, you score

(07:08):
and Mahomes has like fourteen seconds and three timeouts instead
of thirty, which he even say. He goes that doesn't
sound like a big deal. That's a huge deal for Mahomes.

Speaker 3 (07:17):
I wouldn't even have thought about that.

Speaker 2 (07:19):
If Mahomes beats me with thirty seconds to go in
three timeouts, okay, but I'm going to put the pressure
on him. Not hey, if we get a field goal,
you know, Butker can kick at sixty yards. But I
would have said, we got him, let's put an end
to this. We got to kill him off here because
if we go into overtime, it's not going to end

(07:39):
well on the road. Go for the win at home,
go for the tie. That's always been my thought process
with this. But DeAndre Hopkins caught a touchdown pass from
his fourteenth different quarterback that is tied for the fifth
most in NFL history. What player has the most touchdown
passes from the most quarterbacks. I'm just gonna say the

(08:04):
most different, but the most quarterback touchdown passes. This wide
receiver is the number one wide receiver in that category.

Speaker 7 (08:15):
Yes, Paul, can we ask for a hint? Is the
recent almost maybe even active?

Speaker 2 (08:19):
You didn't even wait for me to say yes or
no for the hint, I don't have a hint?

Speaker 3 (08:24):
Is the most recent?

Speaker 7 (08:25):
Brandon Cooks?

Speaker 2 (08:27):
Brandon Cooks, the answer is no. It's not a active
player that would help me. None of the players are active. Marvin,
you got one.

Speaker 4 (08:41):
Larry Fitzgerald.

Speaker 2 (08:42):
He's second on the list, sixteen different quarterbacks. He's tied
with Ricky proll Sneaky fast Ricky prolother me. This guy
had a lot of promise, a lot of promise, never

(09:03):
lived up to the expectations. Yes, Marvin, Josh Gibson, Josh
Gordon no or Josh Gibson.

Speaker 3 (09:11):
Yeah, let me see.

Speaker 7 (09:16):
Never lived up to the promise. Guy.

Speaker 6 (09:19):
Hmmm.

Speaker 2 (09:24):
I think he was the number one overall pick. I
think he was a number one overall pick.

Speaker 7 (09:32):
Yes, Paul Roy Williams of Texas. No, sorry, Roy.

Speaker 2 (09:37):
Marvin Keishawn Johnson. No, Irving Friar. Irving Friar was any
number one overall pick.

Speaker 7 (09:47):
Yeah?

Speaker 2 (09:47):
Patriots Dolphins. Uh I remember him with the Patriots. Irving
Friar out of Nebraska over him? Okay, uh so he uh.
DeAndre Hopkins has now caught it touchdown pass from fourteen
different quarterbacks after the win. All right, Seaton Poll question today,
at least for the first downur, what are we starting with? You?

Speaker 3 (10:07):
We need help with this one because I'm trying to
figure out who the Chiefs are? Ooh ooho, who are
the Chiefs? Are they like really.

Speaker 5 (10:18):
An eight and o team or are they doing just
enough to be eight and oh, which obviously they are.
Is that like the hallmark of a champion team or
is it eventually going to catch up to them?

Speaker 2 (10:31):
Well, They're not like the Patriots of seven, because that
team was explosive they were blowing people out.

Speaker 6 (10:38):
This is.

Speaker 3 (10:40):
Just a really good.

Speaker 5 (10:41):
Team, now find a way kind of team.

Speaker 3 (10:44):
Yes.

Speaker 2 (10:44):
But what's weird is, just like I brought this up
yesterday with Tony Gonzalez, if the Chiefs played the Lions
today in the Super Bowl, it'd be a Pickham game.
According to Vegas, I think most people would probably lean
towards the Lions because the Lions are scoring a lot
of points. But the Chiefs, you know, you get to
this point and you got to know who you are.

(11:07):
Like the Lions. You're an offensive minded team, but you'd
like to get a little more defense as well. Didn't
they make a deal?

Speaker 3 (11:15):
Did you guys? See if the Lions made.

Speaker 7 (11:16):
A deal, we have it if you want it.

Speaker 3 (11:19):
Yeah.

Speaker 7 (11:19):
Sure, the Lions have traded with the Cleveland Browns for
pass rusher Zadarius Smith.

Speaker 3 (11:30):
Okay, good player.

Speaker 5 (11:31):
Yeah Yeah.

Speaker 2 (11:33):
When you said pass rusher, I thought Myles Garrett. Yeah,
question Mark?

Speaker 7 (11:38):
Uh wow the trade? Wow, Detroit is sending a five
to fifth and sixth rounder.

Speaker 3 (11:44):
Yeah, that's not much. That's not bad at.

Speaker 2 (11:49):
I don't know that's where the NFL like you're going
to get the analytics to say, wow, that's a lot
for him. You know, normally we're seeing a fourth round pick.
If you wanted a wide receiver, fourth round pick, here
you go. And if I'm the Browns rebuild question mark,
because we're getting to that point where the how many

(12:09):
of these two and seven teams? How many two and
seven teams do we have? Like five?

Speaker 3 (12:14):
Six two and seven teams?

Speaker 7 (12:15):
Yeah, Pauli Zadarius Smith is a contract dump. Is he's
a kind of expiring contract, so it works out for everybody.
The Lions do not have to keep him or they
could after the season, and it gets the Browns out
from having to resign him in case they are rebuilding.

Speaker 2 (12:30):
Yeah, it's a good pick up. Though they needed to
have somebody in there. They haven't had a pass rush
since Aiden Hutchinson went down. It's weird to see that
commercial with Aiden Hutchinson where he's at the ballet studio,
but he can't obviously do that now with his broken leg.
But you know, I saw that commercial the other day.

(12:51):
I'm like, all right, eight seven to seven three DP
Show email address Dpadanpatrick dot com, Twitter handle at DP show.
We'll look forward to Bill Cower coming up next hour.
Any other pole questions there? Seaton or did we help
you sculpt that pole question? For the first hown, I.

Speaker 5 (13:08):
Think what we're gonna say is the twenty twenty four
Chiefs are dominant or just good enough. So the record
would say one thing, but then when you actually watch
the games, to me says another.

Speaker 3 (13:19):
Do you want to do great? Very good? Good?

Speaker 2 (13:24):
Great v good good?

Speaker 4 (13:26):
Yeah?

Speaker 3 (13:27):
I think they're very good.

Speaker 5 (13:30):
Yeah, I think they're very good because like, can I
just say are they great or good?

Speaker 8 (13:36):
Sure?

Speaker 4 (13:37):
Yeah?

Speaker 2 (13:37):
Yeah, because they do have those elements where you have
Mahomes and you have Andy Reid, like you just start
there and then you throw in Kelsey who had a
big game last night, had a fumble, but still you
know you have those reliables. That's what And the same
really with the core with the Patriots is you had Belichick,

(14:00):
had Brady, and you had Gronk or you had Edelman.
When you need to, you have the person you can
rely on, so coach quarterback and your go to guy.
Speaking of go to guys, Christian McCaffrey, there's hope that
he will finally play this season. If you're in a
fantasy league, like, did you keep Christian McCaffrey, because I'm

(14:24):
sure he went number one in a lot of drafts,
and then all of a sudden he's not playing, and
then he's on the bench, and who knows if he's
going to be able to finish out the season. Yes, Mark, for.

Speaker 6 (14:34):
A guy like McCaffrey, you keep him on your bench
just in case he comes back.

Speaker 3 (14:38):
Always Okay.

Speaker 2 (14:41):
Any other poll question thoughts there, Seaton, Well, we did
have one that was if you were the Lions, you
would use some future draft picks to add to their defense.

Speaker 3 (14:52):
I say yes, or stick with.

Speaker 5 (14:53):
The team they haven't saved the picks.

Speaker 4 (14:55):
I don't.

Speaker 5 (14:56):
I feel I feel like it's still value. Like if
Allie said this than sixth rounders, if you.

Speaker 3 (15:01):
Said twenty minutes ago, I would have said, I'm going.

Speaker 5 (15:05):
For it your If i'm the lines, I'm all in
this year, absolutely all in.

Speaker 2 (15:09):
All you have to do. You have to win one.
That's it death. It's like the Cubs, you went all in.
If you're a Cub fan, you can't be complaining about
anything after the fact.

Speaker 3 (15:21):
Take the next fifty years old.

Speaker 2 (15:22):
I'll have to take at least ten years off and say, hey,
whatever you do in your eight By the way, I
know you.

Speaker 3 (15:27):
Are probably going to be at least two more years.

Speaker 5 (15:30):
Well, if there's one thing we know about Chicago, it's
they could get a lot of mileage out of one ring.

Speaker 2 (15:34):
No city gets more out of a championship than Chicago.

Speaker 7 (15:38):
With a hybrid vehicle of rings, we get a lot
of mileagegs.

Speaker 3 (15:44):
All right, let me take a break.

Speaker 2 (15:45):
We're just getting started, just getting started. We'll settle on
our poll question. Get to phone calls as well. We're
back after this Dan Patrick show.

Speaker 1 (15:54):
Fox Sports Radio has the best sports talk lineup in
the nation. Catch all of our shows at Fox Sports

to listen live trade deadline.

Speaker 2 (16:07):
Later on today, Mike Florio from Pro Football Talk on
what do he thinks will happen? What do you think
should happen? The Lions did make a move. Paulie Recap
that the deal with the Cleveland.

Speaker 7 (16:18):
Browns Zadarias Smith, a long time pass rusher still having
a nice career this year. They gave up just a
fifth and a sixth round draft pick to get Zadarias
Smith from the Browns.

Speaker 2 (16:27):
All right, so we'll keep an eye on that. On
teams that are buying, teams that aren't selling. It's break
into programming coverage. But you better have breaking news to
break into regularly scheduled.

Speaker 7 (16:41):
Program you're judging the level of trade.

Speaker 2 (16:43):
Yeah, I don't need to have maybe a backup defensive
back joining the Eagle.

Speaker 7 (16:48):
So the Bears shipping Khalil Herbert, the running back who's
been inactive to the Bengals for a seventh round draft pick,
is not Newsworth.

Speaker 2 (16:54):
That is not just check it. That is not thank
you for checking. College football action. It's bowling Green versus
Central Michigan and Miami of Ohio versus Ball State. Looks
like Dallas will have a new quarterback as Cooper Rush
come on down because Dak Prescott out with a hamstring injury.

(17:15):
Not sure the severity of that, but that's one of
those that can just kind of linger. It's not just
one game. It feels like it feels like it might
be more than that. The question is will he be
put on the injured reserve. But McCaffrey is back at
practice for the forty nine ers. College basketball opened up
last night. Spent a little time watching Duke. Want to

(17:36):
see Cooper flag. Cooper flag is going to be great.
I wanted to see if Duke is going to be great,
and you know, these guys are all pretty much won
and done's the guys that they brought in. I watched
Kentucky against Wright State. That wasn't fair, and you're really
not able to glean anything out of this. You're just
kind of saying, all right, I heard about this kid,

(17:56):
let me watch him play. Heard about this kid that
this team's got some transfers, you know, some portal guys.
So it was just kind of a all right, college
basketball's here. I watched USC women in Paris against Old Miss,
and h Juju is ready for the WNBA. But she's

(18:17):
only a sophomore. It's going to be a great team.
South Carolina appears to be the odds on favorite, and
rightfully so. So there was a lot of basketball. It
was fun just to be able to get something different
there while I was back and forth with the Monday
night game. Yes, Marvin, all right, pol question, oh Cooper,

(18:37):
that you believe in more this coming season?

Speaker 5 (18:40):
Cooper flag or Cooper rush?

Speaker 3 (18:43):
That duke in there?

Speaker 4 (18:44):
You got the cowboys in there.

Speaker 2 (18:46):
Now, we're not going to do that. We're not going
to do that. We'll leave that to Greene. But Hey,
I commend you on trying to work in the Cowboys.

Speaker 3 (18:56):
You in there?

Speaker 7 (18:57):
What does Lebron think of that?

Speaker 5 (18:58):
Pole? Yeah, there's the fifth day in a row that
we're not talking about were now boys by not talking
about the Cowboys?

Speaker 2 (19:06):
By the way, well we're mocking talking about the Cowboys.
We're not serious about talking about the Cowboys. But you know,
this is a real injury with Dak with the hamstring.
And then is Jerry going to be able to, like,
what do you do with Micah Parsons? Great player? But
he's he's getting at least thirty million dollars. He's going

(19:28):
to say, hey, I want t J. Watt money, which
I wouldn't give to him, but I wouldn't have given
Dak that contract. And I probably would have looked at
that CD LAMB situation and say, do we really want
to put this much money into two players? And if
you do that with Micah, now it's three players, do
you sell? And with Dak Prescott out for a little while,

(19:51):
what could you possibly end up here? I know Jerry
says he's all in. He said that in the off season,
and he wasn't. I'm sure he's going to say he's
all in on the trade deadl but he probably won't be.
I'm just curious who's buying and who's selling based off
what's happened in the last two weeks. Like the Rams,
the Rams are legit, but they got their healthy players back. Dallas,

(20:12):
their defense is not good. They don't have their players back.
They're not healthy. The question is in that division, the
Commanders appear to be for real, and I think the
Eagles are sneaky great they or at least very good.
The Lions still feel like the class of the NFC,
and you'll get that debate. I would guess with the

(20:33):
Ravens and the Chiefs, but once again we've spoken about this.
I don't care what you do during the regular season.
There's certain teams I do not care. I don't care
if the Chiefs lose five games. I don't care if
they go undefeated. I know what they can do in
the postseason. The Lions, it's NFC title Game, super Bowl

(20:54):
or bust this year. The Niners it's title game pretty
much super Bowl or bust for them. The Ravens, that's
what we're waiting for. The Ravens are the AFC version
of the Cowboys, A few years ago, Hey, they won
thirteen games, great, and then what did they do in
the postseason? You want to give Lamar the MVP, it's

(21:17):
based off the regular season.

Speaker 3 (21:18):
I have no problem doing that.

Speaker 2 (21:20):
I don't base an MVP or not give somebody an
MVP vote because of what they did in the postseason.
I don't think that's why they have an MVP for
the regular season and won for the postseason. And Lamar
Jackson has been wonderful. You try to make him one dimensional.
They've tried to make him one dimensional, and what is
he doing with that one dimension? He's crushing people throwing

(21:42):
the football. He's going to split votes with Derrick Henry
if you want to give it to Josh Allen. I
think Jared Goff certainly deserves to be spoken about.

Speaker 3 (21:51):
Now.

Speaker 2 (21:53):
We're never going to give Jared Goff the credit that
he deserves. You're like, hey, you're a number one pick.
You're supposed to be good. Hey, the Rams thought so
much of you. They kicked you to the curb and
they sent draft picks. But what he's done with Detroit,
you can't deny what he's done in these last six games.
It is the best six game run by a quarterback

(22:13):
in NFL history. They're the best team in the NFC.
He should be an MVP candidate. But it's tricky we
get into these arguments discussions. What is value? Jayden Daniels
doesn't have great numbers. I don't know if they really
beat great teams, but he gives you hope. The value

(22:33):
that he gives you with one of the worst franchises
in all of sports, and all of a sudden he
gives you hope.

Speaker 3 (22:41):
There's value to that.

Speaker 8 (22:44):
Now.

Speaker 2 (22:44):
I don't know how you equate that to votes, but
for me, I do see the value of that. Josh
Allen I've said before, I think Buffalo asked him to
do too much, and I think you're starting to see
a more well rounded team. It's not Josh Allen Stephan Diggs.
I mean that to me, that team is surprisingly good

(23:05):
because I didn't think they would be this good because
they lost defensive players. You lose Stephan Diggs, but you know,
and Sean McDermott, you know, it's been hit or miss.
It feels like when he has good games, bad games,
that atmosphere. You know, in December and January they're seven
and two and Josh's played wonderful not turning the ball over.

(23:28):
But we get to this point now where you're trying
to say that guy's you know, now you have some
MVP candidates, But you know, down through history, teams start
out slow. You may be three and four, you may
be three and five, and then you find yourself or
you get into the schedule where you go, Man, we
should be running the table now, like the Jets should

(23:51):
have been in a situation where they are right now
where they should be running the table. They should be
winning like three or four in a row and then
getting ready for the postseason. I always wonder are you
peaking too soon? Did the Ravens? Are they peaking too soon?
Are the Lions peaking too soon? How often have we
seen that team that gets in as a wild card

(24:13):
they're the dangerous team. It happens not every year, but
it does happen quite often. You're playing playoff football, and
then you get into the playoffs and that's when you
knock somebody off.

Speaker 3 (24:25):
All right, Seaton, So we have our poll question for
the first hour.

Speaker 5 (24:29):
Yeah, we're going with the twenty twenty four Chiefs are
great or good?

Speaker 3 (24:33):
Okay, maybe I'll change that to good. Or great. All right,
I'm fine with that. Yeah.

Speaker 2 (24:37):
And did anybody think that the Chiefs or the Buccaneers
should have played for overtime with the chief Oh Todd does?

Speaker 3 (24:44):
Okay, Okay, made a great argument, and you almost suade me.

Speaker 6 (24:47):
But I would kicked the extra point as coach did,
and take a chance in overtime even with Mahomes.

Speaker 2 (24:52):
All right, I would have tried the two point conversion
given those conditions. I'm on the road. I don't want
Mahomes to get ball. We don't have our two best
wide receivers. We're down here at the two yard line.
Let's go for it, Let's beat Mahomes.

Speaker 3 (25:07):
Yeah.

Speaker 7 (25:08):
Paul Baker Mayfield's reaction was so involuntary when he whipped
his head back when they lost the coin toss, and
it's like he blew it, and you know, it's not
an insult to his defense or anything like that, but
that's the exact reaction that all the fans that the
Bucks had in the moment, like, oh, he gets the
ball last you know, I noticed, how about pet Peeve?
I got a quick one. I don't know if this
is a real big one. People still don't understand overtime

(25:29):
in the NFL, they put it on the screen, they
blast on the screen. Troy Apan walked us through it
last night, and there were people on social media going,
so Mahomes gets the ball and the other team doesn't
get the ball back. People still either don't get it
or don't like it because one team can get the
ball and hit the touch.

Speaker 2 (25:46):
Yeah, but you got players who are playing who don't
even know it. Yes, so you can't sit there and
ask a fan and wait, you don't know overtime. We
may know more than the players do. I mean Donovan
McNabb famously when he was playing years ago, it's like, wait,
he didn't understand overtime. He didn't know you could tie, Yeah,
like you you can during the regular season.

Speaker 5 (26:06):
To be fair, the overtime rules are pretty stupid.

Speaker 2 (26:10):
Well, you can't call it sudden death overtime, which they
don't anymore because it's not sudden and it's not death.

Speaker 7 (26:16):
But it can be sudden because a safety ends the game.
Let's say Mahomes drop back and got tackled. The game's over,
So that's sudden death. If I'm the first play of
the game of the overtime, he threw a touchdown pass.
It's over, Johnny.

Speaker 2 (26:28):
So you have partial death, yes, partial death over Just
semantics here. There could be a couple of scenarios, but
how often do those scenarios happen? Plus here, if you're
the Buccaneers, can you go seventy five yards again against
that or seventy yards against that defense again like you
did towards the end of the game. You're down there

(26:51):
on the goal line, go for it. Go for the
win on the road, go for the win. Absolutely.

Speaker 3 (26:56):
Andrew and Washington, Hi, Andrew, what's on your mind today?

Speaker 8 (27:01):
Oh? Good morning, Dan and Danett.

Speaker 9 (27:02):
Thanks for taking my call.

Speaker 8 (27:04):
I've just had a little bit of things about the Chiefs.
I have a cool fact of the game, but I
was just taking a look at it and not a
lot of love is given to Brett Veach, their GM,
and he's been their GM since twenty seventeen after the
pick a pat the Homes. But going deep dive into that,
he's been with Andy Reid since two thousand and four

(27:25):
in Philadelphia as a coaching intern and has followed and
been with Reid for twenty years. That's stability to build
a team. I don't think any other team has a
GM and a coach for twenty years.

Speaker 2 (27:37):
Yeah, but that's the important part of this is the continuity,
the familiarity. And Andy knows what his job is, and
you have a GM who knows what his job is,
and you have a quarterback who knows what his job is.

Speaker 3 (27:50):
How many franchises have that luxury.

Speaker 2 (27:53):
I was with somebody who's to play in the NFL
last night and we were talking about Matthew Stafford and
he was talking about, you know, you got a great,
probably a future Hall of Fame coach, and Sean McVay
Stafford is a Hall of famer. You got Cooper Cup
and Pukin Naku and he said, if you watch the
three passes that Stafford had at the end of the

(28:16):
game against Seattle, he said that nobody can do it
any better.

Speaker 3 (28:21):
Than what he did on those three passes.

Speaker 2 (28:23):
It would be like just chunks here, like twenty four,
nineteen thirty six game, and he.

Speaker 3 (28:31):
Said, your starting. He said, it's weird with Matthew Stafford.

Speaker 2 (28:34):
And I'm trying to recount exactly what he said, but
it's basically, he became an overnight sensation. After like fifteen years,
he won the Super Bowl and then all of a sudden,
it's like, oh, he can win a big game. And
then you get these younger quarterbacks who are looking at him.
You would think they would be like, Hey, I want
to tell you about Mahomes or I want to tell
you about I mean, it could be a variety of

(28:56):
quarterbacks they single out. When CJ and Caleb Williams are like,
Damn Stafford, I'm like, that's not who I would think
that they would be emulating or giving flowers to. But
to watch it with a former NFL player and he's going,
that's just remarkable what Stafford did on those throws. Except

(29:19):
I mean, that's really, really, really rarefied air. I was like,
I appreciate that. Thank you for enlightening me on Matthew Stafford.
Curtis in Illinois, Hi, Curtis, what's on your mind today?

Speaker 8 (29:31):
One and DP.

Speaker 10 (29:32):
When it comes to the Chiefs, I think more than
being greater good, they just have the innate ability to
figure out how to win a game. And then if
I could also throw in a quick best and worst
of the weekend, Worse of the weekend watching my Packers
lose against my wife's lions never good. But best of
the weekend was by far hour three on Friday. That

(29:53):
was some of the best programming I think you guys.

Speaker 3 (29:55):
Have ever put on.

Speaker 10 (29:57):
I think if I had to rate it on a
scale at one to ten, it'd be an eleven.

Speaker 3 (30:01):
Wow, well shot, yea, all that's right.

Speaker 2 (30:05):
You weren't here for the final eleven? Yeah, because I was.
I was going to congratulate the Dan needs for some
good programming, some good content, and then I realized todd
left early on Friday. But we're not bringing that up anymore,
all right.

Speaker 6 (30:20):
I heard there was one of Albert Breer's best appearances
that in that final hour of Friday.

Speaker 3 (30:24):
Yeah, that might have put it over the top.

Speaker 2 (30:25):
People are still talking about that one, Toddler, Michael and
fort Wayne. Hi, Mike, what's on your mind today?

Speaker 8 (30:32):
Hey?

Speaker 9 (30:33):
Dan Dennett's thanks for taking my call. The guys are
having a good Tuesday morning. The Chiefs are good, and
I would say they're really good. They play mature and
they don't get flustered. I'm not sure mahomes blood pressure
got elevated at all or his heart rate got above
one hundred last night, just real stable. But they are

(30:53):
also really fortunate because on that last drive after the
Buccaneers scored, and they've got thirty seconds. There were two
back to back plays where Mahomes almost through an interception
at midfield, and if the Bucks just get one fingertip closer,
they got to get ten yards and then an easy
field goal. So the game could have easily gone the

(31:13):
other direction. And if you've got a few minutes, I'd
love to talk to you about how I became a
Purdue fan.

Speaker 2 (31:19):
Oh gosh, I'd love to, but I got to go
to commercial break.

Speaker 7 (31:22):
God our fault.

Speaker 3 (31:24):
Why didn't we build in more time? Could have found out.

Speaker 2 (31:27):
What it's like to be a Purdue Boilermaker fan. I've
been looking for him, can't find them. Yeah, they're all gone.
Drew Brees the only Boilermaker that I can talk to
you about that fandom.

Speaker 3 (31:43):
What did the guy bring up the other day?

Speaker 2 (31:45):
Wanted to talk about the moving the Georgia Florida game
in the coming years, and I just said, I can't.
I can't not today. Maybe another day, but not today.
Take a break play of the day up next.

Speaker 1 (32:01):
Be sure to catch the live edition of The Dan
Patrick Show weekdays at nine am Eastern six am Pacific
on Fox Sports Radio and the iHeartRadio wapp oh.

Speaker 7 (32:11):
Thank god.

Speaker 3 (32:12):
Play This is the play of the day.

Speaker 4 (32:17):
Check this out.

Speaker 11 (32:17):
Mahomes will break huddle, Hunt in the backfield, three tight
ends touchdown, wins it.

Speaker 4 (32:24):
Mahomes under center.

Speaker 6 (32:25):
That's the snap, spins Hunt, pick the back running over
the right guard, touchdown Chiefs.

Speaker 4 (32:31):
They win it head over time thirty to twenty four.

Speaker 1 (32:35):
Then they go to it No.

Speaker 2 (32:38):
Courtesy of Kevin Harlan Westwood won radio of the last
five teams to start the season eight No.

Speaker 3 (32:44):
Three lost in the Super Bowl.

Speaker 2 (32:46):
Twenty twenty two Eagles twenty nineteen, nine Ers twenty eighteen,
Rams two lost in the Wildcard round twenty twenty Steelers
twenty nineteen Patriots. That's your play of the day. Play
of the day, brought to you by the eight folks.
It's simply save Home Security. What's up, homes? If you
ever worried about the safety of your home and your family,

(33:07):
no better time to act. Now you can get up
to sixty percent off a new simply safe security system.
There is no safe like simply safe. Seat and update
the poll results. I guess this is pet peeve Tuesday.
My pet peeve was can we make up the reporters
or have a go over here if you want to
ask a question in a press conference. We haven't really

(33:29):
evolved when it comes to press conferences, at least the
sound quality of people. Yeah, a lot of question there,
We hear the answer there.

Speaker 4 (33:37):
I'm glad you asked me that. Why did they ask you?

Speaker 3 (33:40):
Did you have a pet peeve?

Speaker 4 (33:42):
I do?

Speaker 6 (33:42):
And I'll preface this by saying that I am a
big fan of Taylor Swift. But for those that on
control the cameras, they did that again. The directors producers
that show show her in the suite.

Speaker 3 (33:54):
Slow down, Let's just slow down.

Speaker 6 (33:57):
Why can't they show Taylor Swift when something negative happen?

Speaker 4 (34:00):
Why does it always have to be something positive.

Speaker 6 (34:02):
It's all well and good when Travis makes a great
catch and the Chiefs are winning. But to only be fair,
Kelsey fumbled or if they're a couple of times the
Bucks took the lead. So why can't we get the
happy end? Said Taylor Swift reaction. Okay, that's my pet peeve.

Speaker 4 (34:15):
You got to show good end.

Speaker 6 (34:16):
Bed.

Speaker 5 (34:16):
That's one of the rare people asking for more Taylor
Swift coverage in a game. That's a hot take.

Speaker 3 (34:23):
There's people who we need I want to see a.

Speaker 5 (34:24):
Little more negative Taylor Swift reaction.

Speaker 3 (34:27):
They there's people who don't want to see her at all.

Speaker 4 (34:30):
That's true.

Speaker 6 (34:30):
But if you're going to decide to do that and
go all in and we have to show her a
few times, then you got to show her when the
Chiefs are doing well and not doing well, especially.

Speaker 4 (34:37):
If Kelsey fumbles. First thing I thought of was, I
want to see Taylor.

Speaker 3 (34:40):
You want to see her?

Speaker 6 (34:41):
Yeah, I want to see what her reaction to the
fumble too, not just yeah we won again.

Speaker 3 (34:45):
Like, I couldn't care less. If they show her, great.

Speaker 2 (34:48):
If they don't show her, fine, If you want to
show her in anguish, sure, I don't care. I gotta
she's not hijacking the game that but the director and producer,
the networks decide to put her on. You don't have
to put her on. They're celebrities that go to games
all the time. Now she's the biggest celebrity in the world.

(35:11):
But it doesn't make or break ruin a game in
hands a game at all. I mean, I'm happy for
Travis Kelsey.

Speaker 3 (35:19):
I do like him.

Speaker 2 (35:20):
He's been on the show, he's been a fan of
the show for a long long time, fellow Ohio guy.
But I couldn't care less if they show her or
they don't. But if you want to see Taylor in pain,
then maybe there'll be a director who will do that.

Speaker 4 (35:33):
And there's obviously a reason why they show her whatever.

Speaker 6 (35:35):
A number of times they analysis and girls in their
chief jerseys that are watching the games with their family.
You know, I don't think they randomly say, hey, why
don't we take a couple of shots of Taylor Swift.
It's always in it all about ratings and what the
what they're supposed to deal with.

Speaker 4 (35:48):
The league wants them to do.

Speaker 2 (35:50):
This bothers you, It does bother Okay, so it's not
really a pet peeve.

Speaker 3 (35:53):
It's worse than that.

Speaker 4 (35:54):
It's a little worse than a pen.

Speaker 3 (35:55):
Okay.

Speaker 4 (35:56):
It started with a show the good and bad.

Speaker 6 (35:58):
But now that I think about it, it's like for
people that I don't eat to see her at all.
But there are a lot of people that, you know,
especially if you have daughters, all of a sudden they're cheaper.

Speaker 4 (36:04):
NFL fans in the league loves that because Taylor Swift.

Speaker 2 (36:07):
Do you ever object when they show Jerry Jones, I
ever heard you say they show Jerry Jones way too much.
Why do they show Robert Kraft all the time? Certain
networks love to show the owners, certain owners.

Speaker 4 (36:20):
I like when they show the owners when something negative happens.

Speaker 6 (36:22):
Seeing a billionairell happy and you know, high fiving their
son or whatever.

Speaker 4 (36:27):
That doesn't do anything for me. But when things are
going awry, it's very.

Speaker 3 (36:30):
Ry a rye.

Speaker 7 (36:33):
I think that's a properly used word.

Speaker 2 (36:36):
Jason Kelsey, ESPN analyst, had an incident over the weekend.

Speaker 3 (36:41):
This was, uh, what was that?

Speaker 2 (36:44):
Penn State against Ohio State. He's cutting through a tailgate area,
He's got a twelve pack of beer, and fans are
yelling at him. And then there's one fan, one student
who's yelling at him, yelling at him about his brother.
Had some choice words back and forward. Then all of
a sudden, Jason grabs the kid's phone and then smashes

(37:05):
it and then moves on. So last night, Jason Kelsey
gets on Monday Night Countdown on the mother Ship and
had this to say, I'm.

Speaker 4 (37:14):
Not happy with anything that took place. I'm not proud
of it.

Speaker 11 (37:19):
And you know, in a heated moment, I chose to
greet hate with hate and I just don't think that
that's a productive thing.

Speaker 4 (37:28):
I really don't.

Speaker 11 (37:30):
I try to treat people with common decency and respect,
and I'm going to keep doing that moving forward, even
though this past, even though I fell short this week,
I'm going to do that moving forward and continue to
do that.

Speaker 2 (37:44):
A couple of years ago, Jason Kelsey could walk through
a tailgate and no one would say anything. Your brother
is dating the most famous person in the world. You
guys together with your podcast, You guys have had an
unbelievable this year last year. A lot of eyes are
on you. You got a big time gig on ESPN.

(38:05):
You must surround yourself with security. You make enough money,
you must get This isn't a Hey, that's the guy
with the Eagles, the push tush. This is different. You
must protect yourself from others and maybe yourself.

Speaker 3 (38:23):
If you have.

Speaker 2 (38:23):
Security, which you need, you know you can't you're no
longer a man of the people. I remember when we
did Sports Center in Jacksonville for the Super Bowl, and
there was a controversy because I had Fred Mitchell on
Sports Center and he did not know the names of
the defensive backs for the Patriots. He knew their numbers

(38:46):
well became a big deal. Then all of a sudden,
you know, we're starting to hear from Eagle fans who
have things to say when we leave the set. When
I leave the set, you have security there. Jason Kelsey
probably think, oh, everybody loves me. This is fun. Hey,
I'm just having some beers. I'm blending in with everybody else.
You can't do that anymore. The rules changed. You can't

(39:10):
just walk through and not expect somebody to say something.
Now ninety percent of the time they're saying great things,
positive things. Hey, great to see you love your brother.
Then you get the ten percenters. They're drinking, they're lathered up,
they're going to say something to you, and they have access.

(39:32):
You've given them access, and they're probably you know, doing
Instagram Live. They're you know, they're facetiming there by watch this.
I'm going to say this, and then you engage back.
You can't, but you have to have security with you. You
can't just walk and with a twelve pack of beer.

(39:52):
And there's people with cameras constantly. Everybody wants their moment.
They're fifteen minute. You gave this kid his fifteen minute.
You're better than that get security, protect yourself and protect
others as well, so you don't get yourself in a
situation like that which was unfortunate. And you could hear

(40:13):
it in his voice, Hey, I can't go after hate
with hate. That's exactly what he was doing.

Speaker 3 (40:21):
All right.

Speaker 2 (40:22):
That's one hour in the books, two more to go.
Bill Cower will join us coming up. It was an
interesting comment that was made, and this had to do
with the Buffalo Bills and their approach to to a
tongue of Iloa, as if the Bills were easing up
onto a tongue of Iloa. We'll talk to Bill Kauer
about that. Also, his thoughts on the Kansas City Chiefs.

(40:46):
How are they this good? With this many replaceable parts?

Speaker 3 (40:49):
There?

Speaker 2 (40:50):
One hour in the books, two more to go. This Tuesday,
Dan and The Dan Nets Dan Patrick Show.
