Speaker 1 (00:00):
You are listening to the Dan Patrick Show on Fox
Sports Radio.
Speaker 2 (00:04):
It's the final hour on this Wednesday, Dan and the
Dan Nuts Dan Patrick Show come on in stay a while.
Good morning if you're watching on Peacock, our streaming partner
and our radio affiliates around the country, including Fox Sports Radio,
iHeart Radio, NFL October VP will vote for that. Coming up,
talk about the college football playoff rankings that came out
(00:27):
last night. We have brackets already, so if the season ended,
we would know these matchups early round matchups and blue
bloods going against one another, and people are going to
have a problem if BYU wins the Big Twelve, they're
there all the way in the quarterfinals. So we'll talk
about that coming up. The NBA suspends Joe Ellenbi for
(00:49):
three games for an incident with a reporter. You have
a basketball tonight including the Celtics and the Golden State Warriors.
Can we find out prop bets on over under for
Jalen Brown and Jason Tatum the numbers that they could
put up against Steve Kerr. Steve Kerr, of course, the
Olympic coach who did not play Jason Tatum as much
(01:12):
as Celtic fans would have hoped for, and Jalen Brown
didn't even make the roster. Here's Steve Kerr talking about
what kind of reception he thinks he'll get tonight in Boston.
I'm excited.
Speaker 3 (01:23):
I think the fans are really going to cheer for
me because you know what I did this past summer.
I played Drew Holliday and Derek White a ton and
given that both guys are are Celtics, and the fact
that you know, Tatum also played a huge role in
the proceedings, all three guys major fact we won the
(01:46):
gold medal. This is America, It's the day after election Day.
I think Celtics fans are are going to welcome me
with open arms and and just to maybe even like bouquets.
Speaker 2 (01:58):
Okay, I liked it a lot of snark in there.
Warriors are getting seven against the Celtics. I am big
on the Warriors this year. I think sometimes you forget,
you know, and we move on. You know, had Minnesota
that we had. Denver feels like, you know, is there
gonna be another Oklahoma City maybe this year, but Golden
(02:20):
State is I think quietly added some pieces you still
have Steph Draymond can give it and take it away.
But that to me, that's the team to beat out West.
You know, the Suns are talented. There's a lot of
talent out West. Feels like the East is top heavy
with the Celtics. I don't know if you're gonna buy
(02:42):
into Philadelphia, I wouldn't the Knicks. They're probably one of
the top three teams I would think in the East.
Don't know if you have another Milwaukee. Milwaukee's a mess,
Like if your Doc Rivers, you gave up broadcasting the
NBA great gig, you go back to Milwaukee, or you
(03:03):
go to Milwaukee and they haven't been good? Yes, don
can I get a too over on that?
Speaker 4 (03:08):
I I should have stayed broadcasting.
Speaker 2 (03:10):
All right, thank you, Doc. The Dame Lillard Yannis experiment
has not been good, yes, Marvin.
Speaker 4 (03:18):
And if I'm Adrian Griffin, I'm like, good good. They
would number one seed when you guys fired.
Speaker 2 (03:23):
Me, I know, yeah, he's the answer to the trivia
question who got fired? So they could bring in Doc Rivers.
But I'm watching the Bucks. Feels like, I know it
sounds preposterous that you go, man, maybe they would trade
Joannis Luel Sindor got traded from the Milwaukee Bucks to
the Lakers, and I'm sure if they said list of teams,
(03:47):
you know, you'd have to put the Lakers on there,
whether they could get him or not, I'd go, hey,
we'll give you Anthony Davis for Yannis. Would the Bucks
do something like that? I mean, Anthony Davis played really
well last year. Now, I always thought that he was
Yannis before Yannis, although in a better shooter. It just
(04:11):
ad didn't. He couldn't stay healthy. Never really, I don't
know when he's out on the floor. I want to
see greatness every single night, and there are times when
it felt like he disappeared. But I thought he had
all the attributes to be Yannest before Yannis.
Speaker 5 (04:27):
Yes, Pauline, I got that update on that Celtics game
versus Golden State. Jalen Brown left hip flexer string is out.
Speaker 2 (04:34):
Oh game more shots for Jason Tatum.
Speaker 5 (04:37):
Okay, I have the over under for Jason Tatum as
of this morning.
Speaker 2 (04:40):
I'm gonna go twenty eight and a half.
Speaker 5 (04:42):
It's thirty and a half as of right now.
Speaker 2 (04:44):
Wait, you didn't everybody didn't get to go right in
the room, it's twenty nine. Todd thirty and a half, correct,
got it it?
Speaker 6 (04:54):
Yeah?
Speaker 4 (04:55):
Who's bet over.
Speaker 2 (04:58):
Marvin? I know says he's going to put forty eight.
Speaker 4 (05:00):
He's shooting the ball fifty seven times tonight.
Speaker 2 (05:03):
In the first half. Now, how many threes? Who takes
more threes tonight? The Celtics of the war. I'm gonna
say the Celtics. That's all they do. They'll put up
fifty five threes tonight.
Speaker 7 (05:15):
Yes, Todd, If Tatum hit some kind of big shot,
does he look over and give a little wink? Is
there anything playful or not so playful towards Steve Kerr
during the course of the game.
Speaker 6 (05:23):
I don't.
Speaker 2 (05:25):
I've known Steve Kerr for thirty years. I couldn't imagine
that he would be doing something to spite Jason Tatum.
I just think I would rather have Kevin Durant out
there in the Olympics. Okay, in the Olympics. Give me
Kevin Durant before anybody else. And then you want to
put in staph and you want to put in Lebron.
(05:47):
Those are the guys I want out there. And you know,
Jason Tatum, you can take it personally, but you shouldn't
because Kevin Durant is the guy that he's the most
decorated player that we have international basketball, and you saw
when they needed hoops, you got the Those three guys
were going to get hoops there. I would have no
qualms about that. Make no apologies whatsoever. Jalen Brown was
(06:11):
just another forward. We've gone through this. I mean, that's
why Drew Holliday Derek White got added. You needed guys
who were going to play both ends and would be
you know, guys who didn't need touches or shots, and
they won the gold. If they don't win the gold,
now you have a discussion. Are the Celtic fans going
(06:31):
to be raining down on Steve Kerr? They will be
and he knows it. Yes, Marvin, But.
Speaker 4 (06:36):
Don't you think that was bruising to Jason Tatum's ego? Like, wait,
my team just won the NBA title and I'm sitting
in the bench. It was Tyrese Halliburn and me.
Speaker 2 (06:45):
Okay, I have no problem with not playing Jason Tatum.
Speaker 4 (06:51):
Oh, I wouldn't play him over Lebron and Kevin Durant either, Yes'
like the eight game sample size? No, no, no, no, that's
all right?
Speaker 8 (06:57):
Now?
Speaker 2 (06:57):
Could I have gotten him in the game a little
bit more. Yes, yes, but this is why I argued,
don't put Caitlin Clark on the Olympic team unless you're
going to play her. And at the time when they
picked the team, I didn't think she had done enough.
Now by the end of the year, I certainly did,
but we were taking it in the moment and if
you put her on the roster, everybody is going to
(07:19):
be saying, why aren't you playing Caitlin Clark? No matter
what the outcome is. You could be winning and you're
still going to have people say, when's Caitlin Clark going
to play. It's a no win situation. And I understand
that now she'll be on subsequent Olympic teams. She'll be
on the one in Los Angeles, and hopefully Jason Tatum
and Jaylen Brown get on the same Olympic team at
(07:41):
some point. But yeah, I think it'll be fun tonight.
I'll certainly be watching that game. Let me get a
couple of phone calls in here. How about Dana in Michigan, Hey, Dana,
what's on your mind?
Speaker 4 (07:54):
Hey?
Speaker 9 (07:54):
Good morning Dan, how you doing Dane's great?
Speaker 8 (07:58):
Hey?
Speaker 9 (07:59):
Come and on the caller couple back on the greatest
waste of talent. The Chicago Bears drafted Dick Buckets and
Gail Stays back to back in the first round. They
never made the playoffs. That's the greatest wasted talent.
Speaker 2 (08:16):
Well, both went into the Hall of Fame. They played
for one of the greatest coaches of all time. He
just had the Green Bay Packers that they were better,
but yeah, having Gaiale Stairs and Dick Buckers, but they
didn't have Stairs for a long time. Buckers played a
long time. Jeff in North Dakota, Hi, Jeff, what's on
(08:39):
your mind?
Speaker 8 (08:41):
Hey?
Speaker 6 (08:41):
Dan?
Speaker 8 (08:42):
First time five six? There we go. Hey, I just
want to ask I want to get your head around this.
I want to hear what you have to say about
this question. When RG three and you were having your
conversation and you were what quarterback would you start with?
And you went down and then he said, well, Tom
six rings, I just got to ask you. Rings is
(09:04):
a team sport. I've never seen Tom Brady intercept the
pass and go back for a touchdown to win a game,
So shouldn't we really go off the greatest as being
their personal stats? Really does rings really matter? Because it's
a team sport to saying that person's the greatest because
they have so many of them.
Speaker 2 (09:26):
It only happens at the quarterbacking position. We don't do
this in any other sport. We don't do that in baseball.
You don't ever say a running back how many rings
does he have? It's that position because they handle the
ball on every play and the importance of that, the
salaries that are attached to that. And we've seen quarterbacks
(09:47):
winning games game on the line. You certainly feel better
if you've got Montana or Brady or Patrick Mahomes. Yeahedon
and you can't.
Speaker 10 (09:56):
Really remove the idea that it's a team sport, so
rings shouldn't matter for a quarterback, and then just look
at their personal stats because like passing yards are dependent
on another player, it's a team, it's two people, so
the team element it's constantly there.
Speaker 2 (10:13):
And it might not be fair that we judge quarterbacks
and their greatness. You know, we've talked about quarterbacks in
the past winning Super Bowls. You know Bob Greasy, was
he a great quarterback? No, but he was a game manager.
If you're winning super Bowls, you get credit. You get
(10:35):
more credit when you're winning Super Bowl. If you lose
the Super Bowl like they you know Elway did I
mean they? They roughed him up. Jim Kelly, you got
to super Bowls, but you didn't win. So the pressure
is on them. That is the not the coach we
(10:56):
don't talk about. You know, when the Falcons you know, collapsed,
Who do we talk about? Not the head coach? That
was Dan Quinn, Kyle Shanahan, Matt Ryan lost that Super Bowl.
Wait what happened to the head coach there? He wouldn't
calling the plays. Okay, it might not be fair. Is
(11:18):
Tom Brady the greatest player in NFL history? No, he
has the best resume in NFL history. Reggie White might
be the greatest player who ever played. In my opinion,
Tom Brady has the best resume in NFL history.
Speaker 10 (11:38):
Uh.
Speaker 2 (11:39):
Cat in Orange County? Hey Cat, Hi, DP? Hey how
are you spectacular?
Speaker 11 (11:48):
Great?
Speaker 12 (11:49):
So DP? I was calling all Monday morning. I'm a
longtime listener, first time caller, not that I haven't tried.
I was calling on Monday morning to shout out all
our eighteen wins. Number one, of course, was the World
Series Dodgers. Then the wins for the Alley Charges and Rams,
and also, DP, I wanted to just let you know
(12:13):
my husband and I are missing one of our best
studies who is having an anniversary next week. He passed
away five years ago from pross strate cancer and he
DP was your number one fan, Karen, Orange County in Lahabre,
Orange County. His name was Jess and we miss.
Speaker 13 (12:33):
Him big well.
Speaker 2 (12:35):
Thank you for sharing that. Thank you, Kat, I appreciate that.
Eric and Tucson, Hi, Eric, what's on your mind today?
Speaker 8 (12:44):
Borning?
Speaker 14 (12:44):
Dan five eleven one eight one. Hey, this is a
little bit of a different take on the Aaron Rodgers
Peyton Manning discussion that you had. And I'm just really
calling and I'm not a huge Peyton man anything, but
I just don't think you can take that second super
Bowl away from him. He was a quarterback the team
(13:05):
that won. And I guess I would I would offer
go through the list of starting quarterbacks during that season,
and at what point would you not substitute another one
of those quarterbacks for Peyton Manning. I think he gets
full credit. He takes credit if he wins, and he
takes credits if he loses. So he won two super
Bowls as a quarterback.
Speaker 2 (13:25):
Oh yeah, I'm trying to put it in context that
he won one when he was Peyton Manning MVP that
year he was not. That defense was awesome, That's why
they won that Super Bowl. But yeah, was he officially
the starting quarterback for the Denver Broncos. He was. But
(13:46):
do I put that up there with the other Super
Bowl that he did win against the Bears. Sure, if
you want to, Yeah, Pauline.
Speaker 5 (13:55):
Peyton Manning that year twenty fifteen was seven and two
as a starter. His stats that your were nine touchdowns
and seventeen picks. That's how good the defense was. Yes,
and it's not a sleight of hand.
Speaker 2 (14:06):
I don't think Peyton takes great pride in that. If
you said, hey, let's talk about your Super bowls, I'm
going to guess he's going to spend a little more
time when they beat the Bears than he is that
one or when they lost to the Saints. But I'm
not here to rip Peyton Manning. I'm just adding I
just give you perspective on him. Now. We can knock
(14:26):
on Rogers all you want. I don't care or Peyton.
I don't care because I don't have any loyalty to them.
Or there's no fandom there, great guests, great players, but
my job is not to go you know what, I
don't think I'm going to criticize Peyton because he's a
great guest. I'm just giving you what the opinions based
(14:50):
in fact, firsthand knowledge, being at these games, interviewing these people.
That's let me take a break when we come back.
You didn't ask for it, Hope, but you got it.
The oktob VP and we play the game that's sweeping
the countryside. It's called in or out. You're either in
(15:15):
or out, Todd.
Speaker 7 (15:17):
You understand the rules, yes, and you can only answer
with in or out. You don't need to elaborate any further.
Speaker 2 (15:22):
All right, thank you, Todd. Let's take a break. We'll
come back and play both of those games.

your mind today?
Speaker 11 (16:26):
Man?
Speaker 13 (16:27):
You have very the lead. Yesterday in flipping around, I
switched on the Worldwide Leader and I saw the sports reporters. Now,
some of your staff may not be old enough to
remember the original sports supporters with Dick Shaft and journalists
like Mitch Album and Mike Lupka and Tony. But yesterday
(16:49):
in the first box, the first one to be called
on was you. Yep, congratulations you made it back to
the Worldwide Leader on your term.
Speaker 2 (16:58):
Yeah, thank you.
Speaker 4 (17:00):
JJ.
Speaker 2 (17:01):
I was on Jeremy Shapp who's a friend who hosts
the show. He said, hey, would you come on with
a Chefty and Bill Rodin and who else was on
with it? Tracy Wolfson was there and we did the
sports reporters where they threw out topics and then we
got to opine on these pretty much all the topics
(17:24):
we talk about here. But yeah, I was back on
the Mothership for just a cameo, and by thanks, I
say that in parentheses with Jeremy shapp for reaching out
to me to let me come on the Mothership. Are
we coming up on the fiftieth anniversary of ESPN or
(17:44):
is it the forty fifth? Was it seventy nine?
Speaker 5 (17:49):
I think it's forty fifth for ESPN, fiftieth for Saturday
Night Live?
Speaker 10 (17:53):
Oh okay, I think okay, I'm seeing such Yeah, seventy
nine for ESPN.
Speaker 2 (17:58):
Okay, did I miss the forty fifth anniversary? I was
there for the fortieth.
Speaker 5 (18:05):
Did they have one?
Speaker 8 (18:06):
Yeah?
Speaker 2 (18:06):
That would have been September. Yeah, this is September seventh. Yeah,
maybe I didn't get in. Maybe if I live along
enough be around for the fiftieth. Yes, Tony, Well, we had.
Speaker 7 (18:17):
Chris Berman on to celebrate him being there forty five years,
but I don't know there was no invite to like, hey,
bring the gang to the big forty fifth birthday party anniversary.
Speaker 2 (18:25):
Yeah, I know said we didn't have Boomer on. Yeah,
but we didn't get invited anything. That was the point.
I was trying to make time. Uh Brian and Milwaukee.
Speaker 6 (18:37):
Hi Brian, guys, good morning. What an honor finally get
through to talk to you guys. Thank you for starting
my day off. You guys are like my buddies, sitting
on a bar talking sports, pop culture, ripping on each other.
It's great. So I do have an in and in or.
Speaker 13 (18:52):
Out for you guys.
Speaker 8 (18:53):
This good.
Speaker 6 (18:55):
This goes back to your you know, needing a Sports
Emmy and I've been trying to call since you talk
with Johnny Bench. That might have been the greatest interview ever.
You have to put that on your Emmy reel. It
was still real, the way you ask questions, the emotions.
The question is would you guys, you guys have been
together for so long, would you give up seeing or
(19:15):
talking to each other ever again to get the elusive
sports Emmy.
Speaker 2 (19:20):
Wait, well, we stop to do the show for three
more years.
Speaker 6 (19:25):
We'll say they give it to you at the last.
Speaker 2 (19:26):
But oh yeah, yeah, I don't think everybody's going to
stay in touch with each other. So the idea is.
Speaker 10 (19:35):
We get to win an Emmy and then when the
show is over, we never talked to each other.
Speaker 8 (19:38):
Ever.
Speaker 5 (19:39):
Again, that's likely to happen.
Speaker 2 (19:41):
Even if we don't win sports. Even if we don't
win sports. My wife goes, who do you think you're
going to stay in touch with? And I go, what
do you mean? She goes from the staff.
Speaker 10 (19:51):
I go, I don't think anybody, Tyler. They're still going
to be coming over to pick up the dog and stuff.
So yeah, it might have him.
Speaker 2 (20:03):
I'll hire him to, uh, you know, grill some things
on the trigger, you know, the big german. I'll stay
in touch with the big german. Yeah, probably so very
handy like that. Yes he is. He's a good guy.
All right. Uh, it's time to play in or out.
Thank you for the music, and here's your host for
(20:24):
in or out only.
Speaker 5 (20:26):
I will give a statement and go around the room
and you say you're in on this statement, which means
you back it. You're in or you're out, which means
you're out out. Okay, it's just that simple. You could
play at home like that last goal. Okay, the Commanders
and Steelers will make the playoffs.
Speaker 10 (20:43):
Todd in the Seaton in Marvin and I'm going to
in it.
Speaker 5 (20:49):
Wow. Yeah, four for for any Yeah, Okay, Well, college football.
The nine to zero Miami Hurricanes are back as a
college football friend.
Speaker 2 (21:00):
Hmm, ton out seating out Marvin out out.
Speaker 5 (21:09):
So it's a one year boost from the quarterback.
Speaker 2 (21:11):
So we had four innies and four ounties of a bubble.
Dang see, we need no never mind continue.
Speaker 5 (21:19):
The team I'd least like to be traded to is
the Cleveland Browns.
Speaker 8 (21:25):
And.
Speaker 2 (21:30):
Yeah, I don't want to go to Cleveland Marvin out out.
So what teams would you not want to be traded to?
Speaker 4 (21:40):
Carolina Panthers too.
Speaker 2 (21:42):
Okay, it feels like you get some playing time they
need help.
Speaker 4 (21:48):
But it's still the Panthers though. Charlotte's super nice?
Speaker 2 (21:51):
Can I say the Wizards? Can I say the Washington was? Okay?
Speaker 4 (21:55):
Yeah?
Speaker 2 (21:57):
Okay? What else do we have any more? In or out?
Speaker 5 (22:00):
Never out of INDs? Okay, Joel Embiid, this one think
about for a second. Okay, Joel Embiid is doing the
best he can and we should cut him some sleck.
Speaker 2 (22:14):
I'm in on that because I think he's had so
many injuries. I don't know if he doesn't want to play,
because he's always come back from all of these in
just start with the back injury. They didn't even know
if he was going to be any kind of NBA player,
And that was two years of going through and anybody
(22:35):
who's had back pain, back surgery knows coming back from
that as an athlete. You know, I'm gonna give him respect.
I understand. Look, I thought the columnist was wrong in
making it personal with Joell Ebiid. It doesn't let him
off the hook where you're pushing a reporter. You can't
do that. So I would say, I'm gonna give Joellenbiid
(22:56):
the benefit of the doubt. Here, Todd, what about you
in give him the benefit of the Okay, Seaton.
Speaker 10 (23:05):
I'm in on giving him the benefit of that.
Speaker 2 (23:09):
That didn't sounds in.
Speaker 4 (23:12):
Ish.
Speaker 2 (23:13):
It's like a fifty Yeah, Marvin, are you Inish or outish?
Speaker 8 (23:18):
Oh?
Speaker 4 (23:19):
No, I'm in in. Oh he's not Ben Simmons.
Speaker 8 (23:22):
No.
Speaker 4 (23:23):
I know when Joelle ebi plays, he plays. Yeah, he
just has to play.
Speaker 2 (23:27):
Yeah, he's great.
Speaker 5 (23:29):
A couple more. The NBA as a league is having
a bad season already.
Speaker 2 (23:35):
I'm in on that. I'm in don in Seaton in Yeah.
Speaker 5 (23:42):
It's the first week of November.
Speaker 2 (23:44):
Yeah, but there's no buzz there. There's no story there,
Like what load management?
Speaker 14 (23:51):
Again?
Speaker 2 (23:53):
What else are we focusing on with the NBA? Not much? Yeah,
that's really why the NFL is so great.
Speaker 4 (24:00):
One.
Speaker 10 (24:00):
It has like so few games, so you have to
watch them all, but it tells the story better than
any other league, you know. And that's what something like
the NBA is missing. They need a story to tell,
and right now there isn't a great one. There isn't
like really compelling story to tell there.
Speaker 7 (24:16):
Yes, Tom, And if we have to talk about Dwayne
Wade's statue, are should Brownie be able to play with
his dad?
Speaker 4 (24:22):
What was that contrived thing? That is far from juicy stuff?
Speaker 2 (24:25):
Yeah, we're not really getting topics on the floor now.
Maybe we're not going out of our way to have
some topics. You know, I said before, I think the
Nuggets are in trouble. I don't. I think their window
of opportunity closed. They didn't add necessarily what they should
have with Joker there. The Buck situation is a mess.
(24:45):
Celtics I think are great, Like Golden State, Houston's a
sneaky team to me, Oklahoma City's gonna be a lot
of fun, you know. So there's there's storylines there but
you know, not necessarily. Wow, I can't wait to watch
that game or that player. All right, PAULA continue two more.
Speaker 5 (25:04):
If I were the president of the United States, I
would take advantage of the fact that I could call
down to the kitchen and ask for whatever I want
to eat at one forty five in the morning, because
I can't Hence, like if I was at one forty
five in the morning, I was up and I'm the president,
I'm calling down and asking for like beer and barbecue.
Speaker 2 (25:24):
Wait, is this a trick question?
Speaker 5 (25:26):
Would you do this?
Speaker 8 (25:27):
Oh?
Speaker 10 (25:27):
Yes, you wouldn't be Like this is like Paul's favorite topic.
Speaker 2 (25:30):
It's like, what at one o'clock in the morning, you
just want caro cake? They just have carrot cake. You
just get it. No, if I'm the vice president, I
do that. Oh can you do that? Yes you can.
You can say, hey, hey, Tommy, I'm ordering for the president.
Can I get some? And then you actually order for yourself.
Speaker 5 (25:46):
And nobody would have guilt if there's a guy girl
down there.
Speaker 2 (25:49):
No, No, okay, Hank, No, yes, Marvin.
Speaker 4 (25:53):
And when you become president and I'm secret Service, I'm
going to say the president really has a hankering for
red velvet cake and I'm just gonna eat it.
Speaker 5 (26:00):
Ooh it seems like a violation.
Speaker 2 (26:02):
Yeah.
Speaker 5 (26:03):
Last one. There's a new show coming out called Landman Landman.
Speaker 2 (26:08):
Uh.
Speaker 5 (26:08):
It's on Paramount Plus. It's with Billy, Bob Thornton, to
Me Moore and John Hamm It's by the guy Taylor
Sheridan who created Yellowstone. Okay, based off that description, it's
about oil barons in Texas. Are you in or you
out on this series?
Speaker 2 (26:27):
I'm gonna give a in ish on it. I don't
like the title land Man like you can't go Lambin right,
you got to go land Men. You need hype, mad Men, Madmen. Yeah,
I'm in. I'm I'm gonna give it an ini ish. Yes, Todd,
I think you nailed it Inish.
Speaker 7 (26:48):
I'll take a peek at it, but I'm not going
to rive it.
Speaker 10 (26:50):
Marvin in is okay, seton in a shank and none
Watch all right? October VP?
Speaker 2 (27:01):
Who is your MVP for the month of October otherwise
known as octob VP Paul?
Speaker 5 (27:08):
Since I didn't enter out it, I'm very ready to go.
I'm gonna go Jared Goff. I have him with nine touchdowns,
no picks and he threw. His percentage was eighty one
percent for the month.
Speaker 2 (27:22):
It's the greatest six game run percentage wise, completion wise
in NFL history. Todd Octob VP.
Speaker 7 (27:31):
I was gonna go with a quarterback, but I thought
that was too easy. So I'm going with Sakwan Barkley
and what he means to the Eagles, and that's the franchise.
Speaker 2 (27:39):
Right now, all right, see no O'Connor.
Speaker 10 (27:41):
I mean not to sound like I'm mailing it in,
but I think it's Lamar Jackson. Lamar Jackson is the
mid the Oktob VP, Tob VP, Marvin Octob VP.
Speaker 4 (27:54):
Derrick Henry. He's got a thousand yards already, eleven touchdowns.
He's been great.
Speaker 2 (28:00):
He's on pace for two grand I think I saw
the numbers side by side with h I think when
Peterson rushed for two thousand and then I think whatever
through nine games, So I think he's a little bit
ahead of him. I would say Jared Goff. I can't
be raving about Jared Goff and then not giving the
(28:20):
October VP with what he's accomplished. He'll be on display
Sunday night, and that'll be against C. J. Stroud and
the Texans.
Speaker 5 (28:27):
Yes, Paul, so based off that Jared Goff wins for
our show, he got two votes? Can we send him
a certificate? He seems like a guy who would like that,
a nice eight by eleven certificate.
Speaker 4 (28:39):
Maybe framed, Maybe he shouldn't because Derek Carr was our
Septem VP and it didn't work out.
Speaker 2 (28:47):
Oh wait, are you sure he was our September He.
Speaker 10 (28:50):
May have been mid September VP mid he had two
hour Do you mean that we collectively decided that?
Speaker 2 (28:57):
Yeah, I don't remember that checking. I think it was
he on the two week VPG. He was great for
two weeks months MVP.
Speaker 4 (29:08):
Yes, really, after two weeks we were like greatest show
on Turf Part two.
Speaker 2 (29:14):
Oh, I got just what I thought.
Speaker 10 (29:15):
These segments couldn't get more common of the mid months
of MVP.
Speaker 2 (29:19):
H Yeah, yeah, of course. Uh Stephen in Portland, Hi, Steven,
what's on your mind today?
Speaker 11 (29:26):
Hey? I just wanted to bring up a historically relevant
to political candidate that I thought you might be interested
in by the name of these nets. Okay, back in
twenty sixteen, this kid from all fifteen year old kid
from Iowa files legally to run of the candidate named
these nets and he pulled it like eight and nine
percent in multiple states. He barely beat at Harambe but
(29:49):
he had two percent, but it was a whole big thing.
Speaker 2 (29:52):
Yeah, I remember that, Yes, thank you Steven, that he
found a loophole and he ran on the name D Yes, Paul.
Speaker 5 (30:01):
There's a great video that was going around yesterday. It
was like this guy in North Carolina, this serious, older
gentleman who was reporting the local news. He goes and
Joseph Biden has forty seven percent and they're writing Kennedy
d's nuts. Is that nine back to you enough studio?
Speaker 2 (30:18):
Very high number. Yeah. I'm Nick Saban and I endorsed
this candidate, d's nuts. Kevin in Oregon, Hi, Kevin, what's
on your mind today?
Speaker 7 (30:30):
Dan?
Speaker 8 (30:30):
What's up?
Speaker 4 (30:30):
Dude?
Speaker 8 (30:31):
Six?
Speaker 15 (30:35):
So I've had a question that I've been thinking about
since you guys were always talking about this retirement. Dan,
I was wondering, have you thought about Ross Tucker taking
over for you and then having the boys stay intact
and then you come in for a weekly spot. I
think that had pretty cool And then also pull question
best all time chilling hosts all listen.
Speaker 3 (30:57):
On the air.
Speaker 2 (30:58):
Thank you well. I can't judge best fill in host
because I wasn't here. I'm not even thinking about if
somebody comes in, sits in the chair, has the same
man cave and works with the danis. We haven't even
discussed this, and I don't know what they want to
do in three years. You know, if you're fritzy and
(31:18):
you don't have any other opportunities that you're gonna want.
Speaker 7 (31:20):
To that's nice.
Speaker 2 (31:25):
Is anybody retiring when I retire? Okay? And if so,
how are you Howard?
Speaker 1 (31:34):
Exactly are you pulling that off?
Speaker 5 (31:37):
Yes, Paul, I would say I'm retiring from this this
type of you.
Speaker 2 (31:42):
Wouldn't do Monday through Friday. After I'm done.
Speaker 5 (31:46):
Man, I'd say it's a coin flip right now. If
you're asking you just did ask me right now?
Speaker 2 (31:49):
I did I ask right If.
Speaker 5 (31:50):
You're asking me right now what you do, I would
say unlikely to mm, probably you asked it's true.
Speaker 2 (31:57):
Well, it's unlikely. Probably, I mean, you don't you're not
really definitive.
Speaker 5 (32:01):
Defin You're just saying unlikely. And it you know, like
other side work, you know that you could do without
doing them money through Friday.
Speaker 2 (32:10):
That's That's all we ask Monday through Friday, Marvin, would
you do it with a guest host.
Speaker 4 (32:16):
Like if Ross Tucker came in? Yeah? I like Ross,
right seating?
Speaker 10 (32:22):
Uh, I mean yeah, I love Ross. I would think
about doing that. Yeah, I don't know that I want
to do this Monday through Friday after this. Yeah, it's
kind of like feeling like start back at the bottom
of the mountain, start climbing it again. I don't know
that I really want to do that, but I would
be open to it. Yeah, I definitely am working after this.
So it's more of the schedule. It's not who would
be the guest, has nothing to do with the guest host.
(32:44):
It's more even just like the whole like process of
doing this, Todd, I.
Speaker 7 (32:48):
Love Ross, So I would definitely consider that as an option.
I want to continue in sports broadcasting and the entertainment field.
I don't know exactly what that's going to be in
three years, but that would be one thing.
Speaker 2 (32:58):
To keep in mind. You have a couple other irons
in the fire.
Speaker 7 (33:02):
I have not pursued anything, but as we get closer,
you know, I'm sure we'll all have to kind of
figure out we're not in a position financially our age
wise to say, Okay, I'm going to sit on the
couch now.
Speaker 2 (33:10):
Yeah, I agree, but hey, if you get somebody in here,
I'll watch occasionally.
Speaker 5 (33:17):
That's one.
Speaker 2 (33:17):
Yeah, but don't ask me to come on. I'm just
going to watch. That'll be it band all, you know.
Try to call in and see if I can talk
to Tyler.
Speaker 4 (33:29):
Yes, mar has anyone asked you about this space?
Speaker 2 (33:31):
Yes? Yes, yeah, big dogs. Uh. I've said this before,
one surprise one where I was like, oh, okay, I
didn't know that you would you would want to leave
what you're doing to do this let's play guests. Now,
we're not going to do that. You're not going to
do that, I guess the right now.
Speaker 7 (33:52):
That's why Costas isn't doing the play by play baseball.
Speaker 2 (33:55):
Okay, did say he was retiring from doing play by play.
He didn't say retiring Bob and the bob Ds. There
is no way Costas could put up with this, There's
no way. This too much work man, every day Monday
(34:17):
through Friday. No, he wouldn't want to do that. He's
got a great life, you know, lives in Newport Beach,
lives in Manhattan. You get to just be Bob costas
every day. He can't come in here, can't dumb it down.
He can't. He can't, although I would want. It feels
(34:39):
like he wants to.
Speaker 10 (34:39):
Though, I kind of feels like Bob wants to come
in here and dumb it down a little bit.
Speaker 2 (34:43):
I think he would like to get squirrely a little
bit he would do is open the mic and like
rip a fart live. I don't know, Bob, how about
we take a break. We're back after this Dan Patrick Show.
Speaker 1 (34:58):
Be sure to catch the I Have edition of The
Dan Patrick Show weekdays at nine am Eastern six am
Pacific on Fox Sports Radio and the iHeartRadio app.
Speaker 2 (35:09):
Last call for phone calls, what we learn, what's in
store tomorrow, try to accomplish all of those things. Rick
and Sioux City. Hey Rick, what's on your mind today?
Speaker 16 (35:23):
Hello Dan, Thanks for taking my call?
Speaker 6 (35:25):
Sure?
Speaker 2 (35:26):
Rick?
Speaker 16 (35:27):
Yeah, Dan, You've been talking about the game manager quarterbacks
and the suber talented quarterbacks, and I can think of
three game manager quarterbacks from Davis day. There are days
gone by that maybe don't get enough credit, and their
organizations have have one with both game managers as well
(35:54):
as the uber talented. Two of the three that I'm
gonna mention have done that Green Bay, Kansas City. You
know they won with Bart Starr and Lynn Dawson, and
of course they've now they've had youber talented with Patrick
Mahomes and from Brett Barr to Aaron Rodgers.
Speaker 2 (36:15):
So what's the what's the point?
Speaker 16 (36:17):
I want general opinion on what would you rather start
your organization with the uh the game managers aforementioned, like
I said, or the bober talented.
Speaker 2 (36:30):
Well, I would take the over talented because Tom Brady,
greatest quarterback of all time, was a game manager. It's
it's not a sign of disrespect. I want somebody who
There's a lot of talented quarterbacks, but you know, it's
like baseball pitchers. You've got somebody who is a thrower
and somebody who's a pitcher. I want somebody who's a
(36:52):
game manager. And there's no shame in being called a
game manager in my in my vernacular, I said, is
a game manager. Mahomes is a game manager. He understands,
you know that the situation's in a game, what to
do not to do? And to me, that's what I
(37:12):
want my quarterback that he doesn't do. You know, crazy
things go willy nilly I don't want Jameis Winston's got
a ton of talent. I don't think he manages a game.
Speaker 10 (37:23):
Yeah, seen, I feel like, uh, like Patrick Mahomes is
a little more willy nilly, go nuts kind of guy
thing than a game manager.
Speaker 2 (37:34):
It just happens to work for him, but he picks
what he does. He's not like that the whole game. Yeah,
he has these moments where he does something spectacular.
Speaker 10 (37:44):
I think we need to define what game manager actually is.
Maybe that'll be tomorrow's show.
Speaker 2 (37:49):
It would be if you said Greg Maddox was an
NFL quarterback that would be a game manager.
Speaker 10 (37:56):
Yeah, because I get that. Yeah, I definitely can't put
Patrick Mahomes in that. Then why because he's not He's
not boring. You Like, Greg Maddox wasn't like he wasn't
hitting a hundred. You know, we're like, oh my god,
did you see the bottom fell out of that curve
ball or whatever. He was just kind of like a
guy who knew how to place pitches, which is kind
of really boring while also being effective.
Speaker 2 (38:16):
Yeah, he won three hundred and fifty games.
Speaker 10 (38:19):
I'm not doubting his success of just saying he wasn't
like well, I didn't say he wasn't the Patrick Mahomes
of Yes.
Speaker 4 (38:27):
That does that have to be a ceiling to your
talent level in order to be considered a game manager?
Speaker 2 (38:33):
No? Okay, once again Tom Brady managed a game. He did,
he didn't do anything spectacular. I think he'd be insold,
he would be well he made. He might already be
upset with me critiquing his broadcasting skills. Yes, Todd and.
Speaker 7 (38:53):
Then his Michigan self will be angry and his patriots saw.
Speaker 2 (38:56):
Yeah, I think we can do away with those commercials.
Speaker 10 (38:59):
Now, we have to have a way of separating Trent
Dilfer from Tom Brady.
Speaker 2 (39:05):
There has to be away. They can't both be in
that same game management. Say that Trent Dilfer was a
game manager, I'm saying he's not.
Speaker 4 (39:15):
He's not.
Speaker 5 (39:17):
He was a game of tender.
Speaker 2 (39:19):
He was there at the game. Yes, this day and
this day in sports history.
Speaker 5 (39:24):
Man, is that a slight?
Speaker 14 (39:25):
I know?
Speaker 5 (39:26):
Eighteen sixty one, the inventor of basketball, James Naismith.
Speaker 2 (39:29):
Overrated Wow too soon.
Speaker 5 (39:34):
Eighteen sixty nine, the first college football game was played
where Fritzy Rutgers New Brunswick, New Jersey him Oh. Nineteen
seventy four, This is big. Mike Marshall became the first
relief pitcher for the Dodgers to win the Cy Young Award.
A lot of people said that changed the direction of
pitching nineteen eighty two the US.
Speaker 2 (39:52):
But here's something. Mike pitched over two hundred innings, two
hundred innings that year of relief, so just give him
you a He had one hundred and six appearances when
he won the Saia Okay.
Speaker 5 (40:07):
Armschmarm nineteen eighty two, the US Supreme Court ruled that
the NFL could not dictate the hometown of a team,
opening the door for the Raiders to move to Los Angeles.
Speaker 2 (40:18):
Let's go around the room. If we learned anything on
this program, Todd, would you learn today?
Speaker 7 (40:22):
RG three says the Cowboys were the biggest losers of
the trade deadline and loves the Commanders getting marsha on Latimore.
Speaker 2 (40:27):
Yeah, I wouldn't have done anything unless you're trading something
away now. The Cowboys whatever, Yeah, they weren't your quarterbacks
out for a month? Seatan what did you learn?
Speaker 4 (40:38):
RG three?
Speaker 2 (40:38):
Big cowboy heck guy Yeah, black black cowboy hat, Marvin.
Speaker 4 (40:41):
Try therefore was just there.
Speaker 2 (40:43):
