We made it to hour one on this Wednesday. The
Ambassador of humors in rare form, Fritzy Seaton, Marv paul E,
yours truly the back room guys ready to go this Wednesday.
A lot to talk about coming up. A little bit
later on, You've asked for it, you got it. The
novem VP, NOVEMBP b BP, novem MVP. Still trying to
(00:32):
figure out how to pronounce it, the NOVEMBP. Hey, I
did it? So who was the MVP of November? Is
an easier way to say that. A little bit later on,
the former Cowboy coach Jason Garrett. A little later on today,
Pat forty, he covers college football. I think he got
pepper sprayed. He was at Columbus for the Ohio State
Michigan game. Hey, you get pepper sprayed, you get to
(00:54):
come on the show. So Pat forty will join us.
Will play in or out? That your They're in or out.
That's a little bit later on as well. College playoff rankings,
the play of the Day, whole question. Stat of the
Day brought to you by Panini America the official trading

Speaker 2 (02:05):
NBA.
Speaker 3 (02:06):
The NBA Cup is still going strong, a lot of
NBA action coming up. College hoops as well, and the
college football rankings seem to dominate the headlines from last night.
So Alabama's back in Miami is out and you have.
Speaker 2 (02:20):
Some buys here with Boise Steak.
Speaker 3 (02:22):
You have Oregon, SMU and Texas and that's subject to change,
all right. See poll question for the first hour is
going to be what well I think we.
Speaker 4 (02:32):
Start with the college football Playoff. The t Doubs sent
in a couple that are fun. Alabama will ultimately make
the twelve team playoff because dot dot dot they deserve
to be in or their Alabama.
Speaker 3 (02:44):
Okay, I would say it has a little bit more
to do with their Alabama. The brand is going to
get you in. And there was a whole lot of
word salad going on last night with Who's My Guy?
Who's running the Playoff Committee? Ward a manual, So he
was talking about these conference championship games coming up this weekend.
(03:08):
He was on with Rhys Davis and this is what's happened.
College football had conference championship games because it was a
cash grab. Now you don't have to have that. You
have a twelve team playoff, not a fourd team playoff.
When the four team playoff, not everybody was sharing in
all the moneies. And now you have teams that can
(03:29):
go to a conference championship and the teams and the
conference's benefit. Well, they don't want to screw up what
happens with the twelve team playoff by having one of
their teams lose in a conference championship game. So it
feels like they're slowly trying to diminish or get rid
of conference championship games. So here is ward manual the
(03:51):
College Football Selection Committee chair.
Speaker 5 (03:55):
Any team that is not playing right now, we don't
have a data point to rear range where we have
those teams ranked, and so that is set in terms
of how we see them going into the final.
Speaker 2 (04:08):
Week of championship week.
Speaker 5 (04:09):
There's nothing that's going to change, Reese for us to
evaluate them any differently than we have now. Those teams
who are not playing cannot be adjusted in terms of
where they are compared to other teams that are not playing.
But the championship teams, we will evaluate that data point
to determine if there's needs to be any movement based
(04:32):
on how the performance of the game goes.
Speaker 3 (04:35):
Would you like some ranch dressing with that word salid
because I have no idea what we're talking about here.
I think it's just a polite way of saying, hey,
if you're in we want to keep you in. Just
don't get blown out, and if you're out, you got
no shot of getting in unless somebody gets blown out.
Speaker 2 (04:52):
Yeah, seton.
Speaker 4 (04:52):
It feels like if Paul correct me if I'm wrong,
it feels like he was saying, the teams who are
not playing this weekend, they're set. Not a lot we
could do for you, But if you are playing this weekend,
maybe we'll see some movement. It was a lot of
words to say basically that, Yeah, Pum.
Speaker 6 (05:08):
I think Seaton's right. It was very He took a
long way to get there, and even Reese pushback, are
you saying that this weekend doesn't matter that much? And
he kept not saying it didn't matter, but didn't say
it mattered very much. For example, if Georgia gets waxed
by Texas, I think they can go down. Can they
go down to past Ole, miss which gets OL missing?
That's confusing. If if SMU gets loses in any way,
(05:33):
I think they're out, and then a team like Miami's
back in, I think yeah.
Speaker 3 (05:38):
Inside, I think all I know is I pushed for
the twelve team playoff. We got the twelve team playff.
It was going to mean more games had more meaning
late in the season.
Speaker 2 (05:48):
I got that.
Speaker 3 (05:49):
The other part of that I can't be responsible for.
The grown ups are supposed to take care of that.
Miami's upset. You know what, Miami, you got upset. That's
why you shouldn't be upset. You lost two of three
once again, you can handle your future. I would say
(06:10):
control your own destiny, but you can't do that. But
you could win. If you beat Syracuse, then we're not
in this position. You lost to Syracuse. Okay, you lost
to Georgia Tech. Okay, yeah, poem, But.
Speaker 6 (06:24):
Miami fans, if I'm going to be pro Miami for
a minute here, just take that play that role. Miami
lost to a Syracuse team that had eight wins going in.
They were an above average team, right, Oklahoma got I'm sorry.
Alabama got murdered not literally by Oklahoma, and average team
this year wasn't even close. Alabama's resume in November is
getting waxed against Oklahoma, beating Mercer, which does not count,
(06:48):
and a decent win over Auburn. They didn't help themselves
in November. They hurt themselves.
Speaker 3 (06:52):
Alabama's a brand that you used to be a brand, right,
not anymore?
Speaker 2 (06:57):
And you lose to Syracuse, win the game. Yes, Syracuse
is good. Win the game.
Speaker 3 (07:04):
I mean Old Miss loses to Florida. Florida of course,
started to play a whole lot better. I mean South
Carolina might be playing as good as anybody right now.
It's not fair, I know that, but it's not meant
to be fair. It's about entertainment. It's getting brands in there. Unfortunately,
(07:24):
but I like that you have Boise State in there,
Arizona State's in there, SMU's in there.
Speaker 2 (07:29):
It's a lot of fun.
Speaker 3 (07:30):
But if I look at these conferences, SMU wasn't in
the ACC last year, Arizona State wasn't in the Big
twelve last year, Oregon wasn't in the Big ten last
year Texas. Like, we're seeing these teams that just came
into conferences winning these conferences, and I know, you start
(07:52):
to look at resumes and we're eventually going to get
to the pro model. It might be the Premier League model.
I'd love to have relegation, or it might be the
NFL model. We're eventually going to get to that. There's
so much money to be made. It's just like March Madness,
(08:14):
you know, when we had the commissioner or the NCAA
commissioner on Charlie Baker on he was talking about maybe
we add four more teams, six more teams. Okay, didn't
make headlines. You go to ninety six. Now all of
a sudden, you're going to get people going, Wait a minute,
it's going to be watered down.
Speaker 2 (08:31):
Yes, yes it is.
Speaker 3 (08:34):
You might say it's already watered down. But college football
went from two teams to four teams to twelve teams.
And I'm already told that we're probably going to fourteen
teams as early as next year.
Speaker 2 (08:46):
That's how quickly this is happening. Wait, aren't there contracts
in place?
Speaker 7 (08:49):
Oh?
Speaker 2 (08:49):
Yeah, in pencil. They can't do that.
Speaker 4 (08:53):
First of all. Okay, there's contracts put in place, so
that will never happen. This is the problem when college
football people are that's still a source subject with me, Seeden.
These insiders came after me. There's contracts.
Speaker 3 (09:08):
There's the pageantry of the bull games, and I go, dude,
you got a lottery ticket right in front of you.
You're holding a lottery ticket. They're going to change college football.
What about the pageantry? What about the bowl games? Well,
wait a minute, there's contracts. I know, what about the contracts?
You know you had people who were covering these meetings
(09:29):
and missed this story. I'm not even in there, and
I was told by an impeccable source on this. But
they were going to do with the college playoffs and
it proved to be true. And now they're going to
go to fourteen just because of the math. There's so
much money being made here and you're discussing college for
(09:50):
this is what they want. Just so you know, they
love that you're discussing college football. There's controversy. People are upset.
It's not fair. They want you to talk about their sport.
When there were two teams playing, maybe you complained about
the third team, fourth team didn't make it the four
(10:11):
team playoff. Maybe it was the fifth team or sixteen.
Now you have twelve and now you're talking about maybe
eighteen schools that can discuss where they should be, should
they get a buye, should they be in?
Speaker 2 (10:24):
Why aren't they in?
Speaker 3 (10:26):
Now we're going to go to fourteen, and then we're
going to go who knows after that.
Speaker 2 (10:30):
It's just going to happen.
Speaker 3 (10:32):
It's trying to stay you know in mainstream media that
you discuss this like the Heisman race is over, there's
no race whatsoever. You want to talk about what's going
to happen in college football. Alabama's going to go to
Notre Dame right now, bingo, two brands can't go wrong
(10:53):
with that. You're going to have some weird matchups, but
it's going to be great. This is what college football wants.
They want you to talk. I mean, March madness. What
are you talking about? You know the sixty ninth team
is going to complain.
Speaker 2 (11:11):
You're like so wide, Who cares this? You care?
Speaker 3 (11:16):
More teams, more schools, more opinions, more conversation, more dialogue.
That's what you want. Everybody's dwarfed by the NFL. You know,
Baseball has this gold knit bat that just came out.
Speaker 2 (11:28):
Baseball just wants to be talked about. Juan Soto six.
Speaker 3 (11:32):
Hundred million dollars like that's everybody's fighting for airspace here.
Speaker 2 (11:36):
That's it. It's what you want. You don't want to
get left behind.
Speaker 3 (11:40):
And college football has done a great job kind of
reinventing itself and it's just getting started.
Speaker 2 (11:48):
This is going to expand.
Speaker 3 (11:50):
It's it's going to go in directions where you go
Wait a minute here, what are we doing. In five
years from now, We're going to look back and go, dang.
College football moved at a rapid not a glacier base.
This is moving moving fast, and that's what's happening because
of the money that's involved. Look at the NFL ah
(12:13):
player safety. How about an eighteenth game? Sure, oh you know,
we'll have one game in London? Okay, maybe two games.
How about one in Germany? How about one in Dublin,
how about one in Rio. It's all moving fast. Everything's
moving fast. WNBA, let's expand more teams. Everybody wants to
(12:35):
have a team.
Speaker 2 (12:36):
Now.
Speaker 3 (12:37):
Caitlin Clark is to the WNBA what Gretzky was to
the NHL. He expanded hockey southern part of the United States.
Who would have thought it's because Gretzky Caitlin Clark. Everybody
wants a franchise. Now, this is what sports is doing.
This is happening right in front of us. Now you
can say, is this the Golden Age? Well, that's open
(12:58):
to your interpretation. This is where we're going. It's about money.
It's always been about money. Eight seven seven three DP

Todd had a few of them, Seaton, you said, many
(13:32):
other pole questions. Yes, you know what, how about we
do it after the break, after the Yeah, we want
to control the quarter hours.
Speaker 2 (13:42):
What we want to do. We just won one of them.
Take that.
Speaker 3 (13:49):
I used to have a radio person who was always
criticizing us of how we did our show. And even
when I talked about ESPN, they go.
Speaker 2 (13:57):
You're giving away your ratings. You're talking about ESPN. I go,
I worked there for eighteen years. I used to get emails.
Speaker 6 (14:05):
You guys broke totally. You broke two minutes totally. You
got to control the quarter hour, Like now we gotta
just be entertaining.
Speaker 2 (14:11):
I'm just I'm just doing a show. I'm just doing
a show.
Speaker 4 (14:14):
Funny because those older radio bosses are like, hey, it
wasn't really like that, And our current radio bosses are like, yes,
that's exactly what you're supposed to be doing, is winning
the quarter hour?
Speaker 2 (14:22):
What's wrong with you? Yes, break two minutes. We just
we none of that has changed. We just dominated right here.
Speaker 1 (14:28):
What do you do?
Speaker 8 (14:29):
Yes?
Speaker 4 (14:30):
Please win quarter hours? That's how I keep my job.
Wrong with you, I don't even understand it.
Speaker 3 (14:35):
I'm like, all right, whatever, you know, just tell me
when I'm supposed to go to commercial break.
Speaker 2 (14:40):
You can't talk about ESPN. I can't.
Speaker 3 (14:44):
This person thought that because I was talking about ESPN,
they were gonna tune over to ESPN Radio.
Speaker 6 (14:49):
Like the listeners of our show weren't aware of ESPN
and you were alerting them for their presence.
Speaker 2 (14:52):
Wait is there ESPN Radio.
Speaker 3 (14:54):
I'm flipping over there and I'm like, oh my god,
all right, we're just getting started, just getting started.
Speaker 2 (15:02):
How's morale, Marvin, how you feeling today?
Speaker 9 (15:05):
Blessed beyond belief?
Speaker 3 (15:06):
Yeah, you're you're Yukon Husky. He's got Baylor coming up
today tonight.
Speaker 2 (15:09):
Let's go. It's gonna be a close one. No more Hawaii.
Speaker 9 (15:12):
Thank goodness. You know that was I'm sure that wasn't
a fun flight back home.
Speaker 3 (15:18):
Connecticut wants to be the best team in every other
state except for Hawaii.
Speaker 6 (15:24):
They don't recognize it as a state Anymoreah, all.
Speaker 3 (15:30):

(15:54):
You probably think you know he's a big time star.
Movie starm gonna shoot my Adam Sandler happy more rolled tomorrow,
Yeah it is.
Speaker 2 (16:03):
You know what I did last night?
Speaker 4 (16:06):
Went over your lines, studying your dialogue, hit your script?
Speaker 2 (16:10):
Did that earlier in the day? Did that? Yes? I did.
Speaker 3 (16:13):
I rehearsed with my wife. I watched something last night.
It was sports related, Marvin, What do you think I
watched last night? Now, I did have a cigar. I
did have some Keeper's heart. I actually had an old
fashion last night, just sipping by myself. Nice cigar. The
Drone Anniversary.
Speaker 2 (16:33):
Series, the movie Major League, No Paul, What did I
watch last night? Sports related?
Speaker 6 (16:41):
Yes, some sports documentary that's been out for at least
seven or eight years.
Speaker 2 (16:47):
No todd some kind of axe throwing or tag on
the OCHO. No.
Speaker 3 (16:53):
Seaton got a suggestion on what I might have watched
last night.
Speaker 4 (16:58):
Uh, did you watch soccer?
Speaker 2 (17:01):
No? Just throwing it out there.
Speaker 3 (17:04):
Maybe I watched the Wizards. The Wizards lost their fifteenth
consecutive game. They were playing against my Cavaliers, so they've
lost their life. They didn't win a game in the
month of November. They went November. Oh oh November. Why
(17:24):
watch I don't know. I stumbled upon it and I go,
how bad can they be? They're really bad. So they've
lost their last fifteen games by at least nine points.
Now I do like the Cavaliers.
Speaker 6 (17:38):
Okay, why wouldn't you lead that statement? What you know
I did last night? You know that Cavaliers team. I
wanted to see if they're for real, and I watched the.
Speaker 3 (17:44):
Cavs because that wouldn't be true. I watched because the
Wizards were playing.
Speaker 6 (17:50):
So you're incredulous about their futility and you want to
see it in person.
Speaker 3 (17:54):
I wasn't incredible. I think I was curious, curious, and
then they didn't let me down. I have to admit
that I watched the Wizards be the Wizards, and I
did watch a little bit of Clemson against Kentucky. Kentucky
lost to Clemson. They stormed the court after beating Kentucky.
Kentucky's the fourth ranked team in the country. So that's
(18:15):
what I did last night. At least a good portion
of my evening was watching basketball question Mark, certainly with
the Wizards.
Speaker 6 (18:24):
Yes, Paul, I watched Syracuse at Tennessee Men's college basketball.
Tennessee is good. They're a buzzsaw. Yeah, I mean it's
thoroughly but man, they look good.
Speaker 2 (18:34):
Did Syracuse play their patented zone defense there? Cowards? Yeah?
I know.
Speaker 3 (18:40):
It drives Marvin crazy. Real men don't play zone.
Speaker 9 (18:44):
The zone is the softest thing save the zone defense
for your forty and over league at the why.
Speaker 2 (18:48):
That is true, That is true.
Speaker 3 (18:50):
But there is always the guy who wants to play
lockdown defense in the forty and older league, like he's
going to pick you up in a full court like
Stuart Scott did when we were playing at the Mothership.
When all these sports anchors got together, I'm like.
Speaker 2 (19:04):
Oh, this is going to be great.
Speaker 3 (19:05):
Just up and down, you know, And all of a sudden,
Stuart's slapping the floor and picking me up full court,
and I go, oh, no, this isn't gonna go with xpex.
Speaker 2 (19:15):
Yes, Marvin, was he dressed impeccably? Yes, okay, he was
Jordan head to toe all Jordan. All right.
Speaker 9 (19:22):
So my theory is, if you wear like brand new
fresh Jordans yes to play pick up basketball, it's either
one or the other. You are really really good or
you are terrible. There's no in between.
Speaker 3 (19:35):
You can't go fresh Jordan head to toe. You just
can't correct like but Stuart did. And Stuart always dressed
the part. He dressed like he could play basketball, and
he couldn't, but he did look like he could play.
And I wasn't intimidated when I saw the you know,
jumpman logo as he was guarding me.
Speaker 2 (19:57):
It's like, I'm not worried. Yes, yes, Tom, did you
shut you shut you down? A little bit? Was he pesky?
How would you describe the defense he put on you? God,
he just went right around there, Yes he did.
Speaker 3 (20:09):
But he played hard. I will say that Stuart played hard,
a little too hard, you know, it was like we
wanted to just up and down, have a little bit
of fun with the guys. Yeah, just goofing around John
Butcher Gross and Jason Jackson.
Speaker 9 (20:23):
Yeah, mar was it a ego battle. I've been in
this movie. I've been in this movie. Yeah, been this
music video of me too.
Speaker 2 (20:28):
Yeah. A little bit of that, Yeah, a little bit
back and forth.
Speaker 3 (20:31):
But I will say that Stuart took the beating like
he didn't. He didn't jaw back. There was none of that.
Because at one point I said, where do you want
me to f and score on you? And he didn't
say a word. He did not say a word. But yeah,
he he bodied me, gave me like the forum. I'm like, dude,
you treat me like I'm Jordan. And he didn't say
(20:53):
a word. He just played hard and I respected that
he did play hard. All right, let's see other poll questions. Oh,
that's right, we were waiting until after the break, Seaton.
You got any more Todds pole questions? Well, we throw
out the first one.
Speaker 4 (21:09):
Alabama ultimately will make the twelve team playoff because they
deserve to be in or they're Alabama.
Speaker 2 (21:16):
Okay, uh, this one, Miami.
Speaker 4 (21:18):
Will ultimately get left out of the twelve team playoff
because they don't deserve to be in, or they're Miami.
The other version of that sentim by Paul was the
Miami Hurricanes got hosed or hosed themselves, self hosing, self imposed.
Speaker 6 (21:37):
Yes they have a complaint, but their complaint is based
off their performance.
Speaker 2 (21:43):
I would love to see them get in.
Speaker 4 (21:46):
They would complaint is kind of like like.
Speaker 2 (21:50):
Oh, what so what We're supposed to win all these games? Yeah, yeah, yeah,
that's what you were supposed to do. But they they
squeaked by a few games.
Speaker 3 (21:59):
Like if you're the Chiefs in the NFL, you can
squeak by games. In college you can't. And I think
people's you know, we're looking with a suspicious eye with
Miami going. I don't know, cam Ward's really good? Are
they really good?
Speaker 2 (22:14):
You had a chance. You know.
Speaker 3 (22:16):
It's the team who doesn't get that chance, that's who
I feel sorry for.
Speaker 2 (22:21):
You had a chance. Just beat Georgia Tech, beat Syracuse.
You're playing You're gonna be playing at Notre Dame. Opening round.
You'll play at Notre Dame. Now, there are some schools
that can get bounced. Boise State can get bounced. SMU
can get bounced, Arizona State can get bounced, So you
do have the potential for movement there. I feel like
(22:44):
the committee was trying to protect the blue bloods here
just a little bit.
Speaker 3 (22:48):
Hey, Georgia loses, they're still going to be in and
you don't. You have teams who don't, schools who don't
want to play in the conference championship because what's the benefit.
We know the downside, you could potentially lose the opportunity
to play in the playoffs.
Speaker 9 (23:07):
Yes, Marvin, the best part about the twelve team playoff
this year as opposed to fourteen playoff or even the
BCS championship game back in the day is all these
teams that are out, they played themselves out Ole Miss.
You don't lose to Kentucky. You're probably in South Carolina.
You lose close games the LSU.
Speaker 2 (23:24):
Well, ele Miss lost to Florida too. Oh yeah, that's
what I'm saying. Like it's not like they were undefeated.
Speaker 3 (23:28):
Like any loss. Georgia should have lost to Kentucky, right,
and Georgia Tech. But look, there is more parody in
college football than I think we acknowledge. Because of the
transfer portal and nil now you're spreading the wealth. Now,
if you don't, you don't think you're gonna play Boom,
You're gone and then you're starting for somebody else. Like
(23:50):
that has leveled the playing field a whole lot more
than I think we thought. These teams aren't as deep
as they used to be. Georgia didn't reload the way
Georgia would normally. Alabama, like, you're losing a lot of
Michigan lost a lot of guys to the NFL. It's
harder to reload. But you're seeing other schools who take
advantage of that. I mean, SMU bribed their way into
(24:12):
the ACC. What a great business decision, you know, Boise
State coming out of nowhere, and by the way they
could lose to UNLV. UNLV is a good team and
Boise State is only favored by a couple of points.
Speaker 2 (24:27):
In fact, yes, PAULI, I will.
Speaker 6 (24:29):
Say in Miami's case, Miami's two losses were at Georgia
Tech by five. Georgia Tech's a good team, a good
team at Syracuse by three, another good team. The Alabama
losses they lost to Vanderbilt. I know Vanderbilt is better,
but they got better by beating Alabama they weren't Vandy
that we think of now until they beat Alabama and
(24:49):
then they lost to Tennessee. Again, that's at Tennessee. But
the Oklahoma loss was non competitive. Miami does not have
a non competitive ballgame on their roster on their schedule
this year where they did not s up Alabama does.
Speaker 3 (25:01):
Georgia is getting two and a half against Texas, Penn
Stay getting three and a half against Oregon, Clemson getting
two and a half against SMU, and I Was State
getting two against Arizona State. Those are the college football
conference championship games? All right, Logan in Cincinnati, Hey, Logan,
what's on your mind today?
Speaker 10 (25:21):
Sixty three two sixty some hard areas and some soft areas.
I'll go fifty fifty. My question you, Dan, So if
you were listening to the talking hands here from the
college committee that just put all that out, and you're
the ad for SMU, SMU is all about money. SMU,
(25:42):
their penalty for forfeiting their conference game is a lot
lower than all the money they're going to make by
going to the tournament. What would your decision.
Speaker 2 (25:50):
Be as far as letting SMU in.
Speaker 10 (25:55):
I mean, if they don't play in their conference tournament.
They're into the tournament, right they the biggest forfeit don't
play in their conference term a game there is they're
kind of a lost for the playoffs.
Speaker 3 (26:04):
No, no, no no. If they forfeit, I wouldn't let it.
I wouldn't let it. School in No, no, you forfeit,
No no, I wouldn't.
Speaker 2 (26:14):
I wouldn't let you.
Speaker 6 (26:15):
There must be a bylass somewhere that if you don't
show up for the conference championship game, you're you're disqualified.
Speaker 2 (26:20):
Adam in South Carolina High Adam, Hey, Dan.
Speaker 7 (26:24):
I called you on Monday saying that they need Ohio
State Michigan to come play in big boy football. But
as a game cop fan, I'm kind of I think
I'm gonna walk that back because I'm not sure I
like the big boy football anymore because they gave it
to the big boys.
Speaker 3 (26:37):
South Carolina's played well, they but you know, sometimes you
play well too late in the season, and South Carolina
has been a really good team, fun team to watch.
H But this is great for South Carolina because you're
talking about South Carolina in December and we're talking about football.
(26:58):
That's a win for South Carolina. Yuah, Jeff and Tampa.
Speaker 10 (27:01):
Hi, Jeff, Good morning, DG FOT with three fifty eight.
Speaker 2 (27:08):
Oh my college.
Speaker 11 (27:10):
Concerning why, I think it's pretty clear that old Myths
should be the representative. I don't understand why they why
it hasn't been more talked about. They both had three
loss than the DAMA David both SEATGA but Ole miss
both beat South Carolina almost beat them by seven of them.
(27:32):
And then all three of Old Missus losses are by
one U posession one score or less.
Speaker 3 (27:38):
Well, if they beat Florida, then we're not having this conversation.
You can you can blame the committee. You can say
that there's bias, and you'd probably be correct, But if
you win, there's nothing they can do about this. Do
they want Boise State in there or Arizona State or
SMU Maybe not. They'd love to have Clemson it like
(27:59):
they would love to have Colorado in there. They would
love to have people who are going to bring eyeballs
to a game, like Miami Notre Dame would be a
musty TV. You could bring back Catholics and convicts. If
you wanted to bring back Louwholds, I think we'll skip
that part of it. But fun rivalry would be nice. Well,
they'll still they would still have a faction that would
(28:21):
want to bring that back. But yeah, you win. I
mean that's the old school. You can have new school
playoff all that. Just win and if you win, they
can't ignore you. But when you lose, you give them
the opportunity to say sorry about that. We're going to
go with Alabama here James in Utah, Hi, James, what's
(28:43):
on your mind today?
Speaker 12 (28:46):
What's going on?
Speaker 8 (28:46):
Pellas you guys doing good?
Speaker 1 (28:48):
Yes?
Speaker 8 (28:48):
James, Hey, I want to see if Marvin can do
me a little favor.
Speaker 10 (28:54):
Today's my birthday.
Speaker 8 (28:55):
Along with jay z And on the Black album, he
made a song called December Fourse And I know you
guys play a little music after a commercial sometimes. I
just wondered if marb can hook up a little December
fourth for me coming out of a commercial.
Speaker 2 (29:10):
All right, what do you think? Yeah? I mean, why
don't we just why don't we just sing to James?
Speaker 9 (29:30):
Yeah you're swaggers?
Speaker 2 (29:32):
Oh yeah you're yeah, you're rid. Sorry.
Speaker 3 (29:35):
That's why I like to go in the h O
V lane. Yeah that they should call it the hoved lane.
That was free that one, yep.
Speaker 2 (29:46):
Got it? Bill and Dallas, Hi, Bill and Dallas, how
are you today? Doing well?
Speaker 7 (29:51):
Dan?
Speaker 12 (29:52):
Second time a long time? Five eleven through five?
Speaker 13 (29:56):
Uh calling in about the game Cocks. I know that
this was a surprise year for us, given that are
over under this year for wins with five and a half,
but just I'm curious that it doesn't we don't really
get much of an explanation on how the principles of
ranking these teams are given it strength, the schedule, had
to head common opponents, and then other factors such as injury.
Speaker 12 (30:20):
The LC loss that was a tough one. I think
that was kind of stolen from us. Do you think
that you see the College Committee moving away from automatic
bids for all conferences or maybe just expanding as I think.
Speaker 2 (30:33):
They'd like to.
Speaker 3 (30:34):
But you know, they would love to have Now I
don't know this, but I'm going to guess this. They
would love to have four SEC schools in and they'd
probably love to have three or four Big ten schools.
They want to pay off those two conferences because those
(30:56):
are the two big conferences. Those are the conferences that
run college football. They would like to acknowledge them by saying,
we know you play tough schedules. Certainly in the SEC,
and we would like to acknowledge that even if you
have three losses, maybe four losses, you deserve to get
into a fourteen team playoff. I don't know if that's
(31:18):
where we're headed, but they would love to acknowledge, like
you can't have two SEC teams, only two SEC teams
in the twelve team cleff like they're being uproar and
you have a lot of SEC apologists who were you know,
these talking heads who are doing their best to keep
Alabama alive and probably did a good job in keeping
(31:38):
Alabama alive in this Yes, Martin, when.
Speaker 9 (31:42):
Did this SEC bias start? Because I remember in like me,
it was three or four Auburn went undefeated and they
didn't get into the BCS Championship game. Like when did
this did this start? Like the Saban era where it's
like the SEC is the most dominant conference?
Speaker 2 (31:56):
Okay, yeah, I.
Speaker 3 (31:57):
Mean you had an LSU with less miles in there,
what Kirby has done, what Nick Saban has done, and
they've dominated. I mean, Georgia dominated college football there for
a long time. So you had to look at them
and say, all right, they're a great team. There are
other good teams in the SEC, and they should be
acknowledged as well. Well, there's only four schools that got in,
(32:20):
and then all of a sudden, it's like, we got
to get more schools in because there's more money here.
We can acknowledge the SEC in Big ten, Hey, thank
you for playing tough schedules here, and we're going to
reward you by letting you play for a national championship.
Speaker 2 (32:34):
Yes.
Speaker 4 (32:35):
Yeah, it's interesting too because the SEC, if they're not
frozen out of the College Football Playoff but not getting
as many teams in as they want, that could be
another step pushing them in the direction that they already
seem like they're going in.
Speaker 2 (32:50):
Why don't we just do this ourselves? Why don't we
just be our own thing.
Speaker 4 (32:54):
We're the SEC, We don't really need anybody else, we
don't need to play anybody else. Why don't we just
do our own thing and you know, sort of secede
from the College Football Union there.
Speaker 3 (33:07):
You would probably be bringing some schools with you. Like,
let's say the SEC said, hey, you know what, we're
going to create our own conference here with a few
more teams, and we're going to have a true national
champion here and maybe you do it with a pro
model where you have you know, divisions in there. I
(33:30):
don't know if Greg Sank would want that headache the
SEC commissioner, but I think expanding the playoffs will be
to placate the two big conferences.
Speaker 2 (33:40):
Do they care about the Big twelve? They don't.
Speaker 3 (33:42):
Do they care about the ACC when we saw that
with Florida State last year. They care about the Big
Ten and the SEC. Everybody else is along for the ride.
It's like, hey, we're in the college football. Really it's
about the Big Ten. It's certainly about the SEC. Everybody
else you get a row. It's you know, they have
the private plane, and then you get to ride on
(34:04):
the private plane. And then you get to take a
picture when you get off the private plane to go
look where I got a private plane? Are you a
Kardashian or something? No, we're Boise State. I love those stories.
I love when the you know, the opportunity there when
a Connecticut played in a bowl game, Cincinnati played in
a big bowl game against Georgia nearly beat him. Boise
(34:27):
State against Oklahoma and the Fiesta ble like. I like that,
but I also like the opportunity that it means something.
Imagine Boise State beating Oklahoma and then they get to
play another game like that would that's fun, that's momentum.
That's what we see with March madness, and I hope
(34:47):
we get to see more of those stories until they say, eh,
Boise State, nice run. But now we're gonna you know,
create something different. We have a proto type here that's
going to be you know, top forty schools in America,
top football programs. All right, take a break, just getting started.
More phone calls coming up, and play the day's up next.

There's no safe like simply Safe. All right, early poll
results there see, and I we'll look at the potential
matchups for the college football playoffs.
Speaker 2 (36:25):
Yeah, we got up there right now.
Speaker 4 (36:27):
Ultimately Alabama will make the twelve team playoff because they
deserve to be in or they're Alabama. Right now, ninety
one percent of that audience say because they're Alabama, and
Miami will ultimately get left out of the twelve team
playoff because they don't deserve to be in there, or
they're not your dad's Canes.
Speaker 2 (36:43):
Okay, and that would be fifty.
Speaker 4 (36:46):
Five percent of the audience say, well, it's just because
they don't deserve to be there.
Speaker 2 (36:50):
Yeah, I know that.
Speaker 3 (36:53):
When you want to argue that, I always say, all right,
what have you done in the last month? How have
you played? And they fact that now I don't know
all the data that they're talking about. I don't know
what they factor in. It's that great mystery, like they
go into this room and then what goes on.
Speaker 2 (37:09):
It's like Vegas.
Speaker 3 (37:09):
What goes on in that room stays in that room,
and people really don't spill, they don't dish on what
goes on, what said not said, who's angry, who's fighting
for something, what's factored in, what's not. It's a great
mystery there, and so when you want to rail on it,
you're like, I don't know who I'm railing on, and
(37:30):
I don't know what I'm railing about. But there are
times when you say, well, my team should be in. Well,
when you win, then they can't deny you unless you're
Florida State. That's dear, Yes, Marmon.
Speaker 9 (37:45):
The crazy part is if this was two thousand, Miami
would have been Alabama, Like why do they get in
because they're Miami.
Speaker 3 (37:51):
Yeah, And we just had somebody who said, when did
it change with the SEC? And PAULI brought up a
great point. When Mike's Live was the SEC commissioner, they
carved out a three point thirty eastern window on CBS
and you had Vern lund Quist and Gary Danielson, and
you had marquee games, marquee coaches, you had some great players,
(38:13):
Heisman Trophy winning players, and it just felt like that
was appointment. TV was three point thirty in the afternoon
East Coast time, Midwest time, and people tuned in because
that was the game. It wasn't a big noon kickoff.
It wasn't even the evening game. It was that game.
And CBS and the SEC, I mean they in partnership,
(38:36):
they created this, They created.
Speaker 2 (38:38):
This monster known as the SEC yeampelling.
Speaker 6 (38:41):
And then in the early two thousands, you had a
bunch of players come through the SEC that were compelling.
Tim Tebow in two thousand and eight, he owned college
football for four years, seemed like seven years, Cam Newton,
Johnny Manziel, you know, Nick Sabans there the whole time,
Derek Henry. They had this run of big time players
that were compelling.
Speaker 3 (38:58):
All right, let's look at the playoff. Man so I
mentioned that it's Alabama Notre Dame in South Bend. If
Miami was in Miami, I think was going to be
there in South Bend against Notre Dame. Boise State gets
a bye, does Arizona State get a bye?
Speaker 6 (39:15):
As well, as of right now, Arizona State is at
Penn State first rount of the playoffs. Oh, I'm growing
for Penn State.
Speaker 2 (39:25):
Well I'm pee bombing that one. Now.
Speaker 3 (39:28):
Wait, you're taking Arizona State outright, outright against Penn State
on the road in December. Arizona going to Penn State.
Speaker 2 (39:40):
You s all like Fritzy you asked it three? Okay,
all right.
Speaker 6 (39:43):
I like Arizona State.
Speaker 2 (39:44):
I like the story of Arizona State, but Penn State.
Speaker 6 (39:47):
Seems tenuous, permanently tenuous. Yeah, I don't trust their coaching. Yeah,
it's not big on James Franklin.
Speaker 2 (39:55):
Yes, Sun Devil's in the freezing call of Pennsylvania. I
love that call by Paul. Thank you, ton.
Speaker 6 (40:00):
I don't like it as much as you also have
Indiana at Georgia Round one.
Speaker 3 (40:05):
That's not good. Now, that's not good, I sung. I
like the Indiana story. I don't think Indiana is a
competitive team against Georgia. I think they're a really good story.
They're coached a good story. I just don't think they're
a really good team. They did put up a lot
of points. I know all of them in here from
all these Indiana fans. I don't have I'm unbiased with this.
(40:30):
I just want great stories, that's all. Yes Ton or
yes Paul.
Speaker 6 (40:32):
The other first round matchup would be the number nine
Tennessee Volunteers at Ohio State. And if you're Ryan Day,
that is unpleasant. I may rather miss the playoffs. That
is unpleasant.
Speaker 3 (40:45):
Pat Forty was at the Ohio State Michigan game and
I believe that he got pepper sprayed.
Speaker 2 (40:50):
You get pepper sprayed. We have you on the show.
