Speaker 1 (00:00):
You are listening to the Dan Patrick Show on Fox
Sports Radio.

Speaker 2 (00:04):
We got football tonight. It's the Bengals at the Cowboys.
The Cowboys getting five and a half hour two on
this Monday, Dan and the Dan Edge Dan Patrick Show.
Hope you had a great weekend. A lot to talk about.
We'll talk to David Pollock, former Georgia All American was
with the ESPN College Game Day. He'll join us coming
up here in a little bit. Stat of the Day

(00:26):
brought to you by Panini America, the official trading cards.
The program Sunday night, it'll be the Seahawks and the
Packers Primetime Sunday seven Eastern, non NBC in Peacock, which
is where you can watch this program. Thank you for
downloading the app our radio affiliates around the country. The
Mets have shelled out seven hundred and sixty five million

(00:47):
dollars for jan Soda. I don't know if it takes talent,
Like when somebody says, wow, okay, congratulate that. I think
their owners Steve Cohen said, look, I'm going to pay
more than anybody else. And that's music to Scott Boris's ears.
That's all we want. It's like is this the right
place for my guy or the right amount of money

(01:08):
for my guy? And it's the right amount of money
for his guy. So Wan Soto is going to the
Mets seven hundred and sixty five million dollars for fifteen years. Congratulations,
I think seven hundred and sixty five.

Speaker 3 (01:25):
Yes, Marman I was just ready to applaud him. Oh
you were his parents, his siblings.

Speaker 2 (01:32):
What's life going to be like in sports in the
year twenty forty? Wow, what's it going to be like?
So when this contract is up by Juan Soto, twenty
forty guys are going to get a billion? Who's getting
a billion dollars? Baseball player's billion, I would think, because

(01:55):
you already got up to seven hundred now seven sixty five,
seven sixty five. Do I hear seven eighty seven eighty
seven eighty Do I hear eight hundred million dollars?

Speaker 3 (02:04):
Yeah?

Speaker 4 (02:04):
Seed?

Speaker 5 (02:05):
This crazy is that the person who's going to get
a billion dollars is probably like three or four years
old right now.

Speaker 2 (02:11):
Well, you're going to have one hundred million dollar a
year basketball player. That's going to happen. First, football players,
quarterbacks are probably going to get in the next five years,
maybe you get to seventy five million. I'm guessing. But basketball,
the NBA, it just do the math. And I still

(02:32):
think Shay Gilgis, Alexander or Luca don Chick are going
to be the first one hundred million dollar a year
basketball players. Baseball we're getting close to, like not necessarily
how much you make per season, but it's how much
you make the totality of that contract. Eight seven seven

(02:53):
to three DP show email address Dpadanpatrick dot com, Twitter
handle a DP show. The Chiefs continue to do it.
I don't think they're a great team, but they're great
at winning. They know what to do, when to do it,
and there's a certain calm that you have. There's certain athletes,
certain teams, certain coaches that they prepare for this. They're good.

(03:18):
They're just good at being able to kind of like
block everything out. And look at the last play with
Mahomes and Kelsey. They've been doing this a long time.
Nothing fancy about it. It's just Mahomes has this ability
to make a subtle move when he feels pressure, subtle move,

(03:39):
get out of the way, He finds Kelsey and then
you kick a field goal. Here's Andy Reid after the game.

Speaker 6 (03:47):
I have trust in Matthew, so I was good with
where we were. Percentages that are pretty high. I know
we've won a game in that same situation on the
opposite end, so I get it. But he's a he's
a solid kicker, so I wasn't too worried about it.

Speaker 2 (04:04):
Yeah, you just you have my homes you just start there.
Nobody has whom Josh Allen was wonderful against the Rams, incredible,
But this Kansas City defense is good and they keep
you in the game, and then when it comes down
to the final two minutes, as we saw with Brady,

(04:26):
as you saw at times with Montana, it was like, oh,
you're in trouble. And that's the feeling. I can't imagine
what that that's like for the defense when they're going, God,
you want your offense, just score a touchdown, just score
to make it tough. Now they have a chance. And
then you go out there and you know he's just

(04:47):
looking for one little moment. Then he got it and
they won again. And it's not by accident. I mean
they've done this, they continue to do this, and the
game has turned into they're all one score games. It
feels like ninety nine games have been decided by six
points or less. That's the most through Week fourteen in

(05:08):
NFL history. Yeah, they continue to set that record every
single week. These games come down to one score. And
that's why one moment, one mistake, and then you're done.
And the great teams take advantage. They seize that moment,
They embrace that moment, they love that moment.

Speaker 3 (05:27):
Yes, Mark, if you're a Charges fan, did you feel
good about that yesterday? Like now going if we make
the playoffs, we can really make some noise when we
get in there.

Speaker 2 (05:36):
I thought they were going to win the game. Prior
to the start, I thought they're going to win this game.
And you have your moment there. But the Chargers got
to get to that point where they can win these
games where Justin Herbert says, I got it, Jim Harball says, hey,
we got this. They had their opportunity and there's still

(06:00):
dangerous team. It's kind of interesting, though, how Justin Herbert's
being used. Look at some of these quarterbacks. The Bills
don't want Josh Allen throwing the ball thirty five times.
There's so much better when he does it. Jalen hurts
with the Eagles. He didn't really do much damage. Justin Herbert,

(06:22):
he doesn't. You know, he's gonna He threw a lot
more than I thought he was going to. But you
kind of want to get that balance. We're seeing these
offenses want to be a little more balanced now. I
don't know if they're going to be like that in
the playoffs, but they do look for balance.

Speaker 7 (06:37):
Here.

Speaker 2 (06:38):
The Ravens run the ball. You know, all these teams.
The Eagles are probably a run first team. Now Buffalo
runs the ball really well, Like this is what teams
want to get. Give me balance here a little bit,
or maybe it's sixty forty, because it wasn't that long
ago when it was probably eighty twenty passing to running

(06:59):
and you're running. Act was a guy who caught passes. Yes, Pauline.

Speaker 8 (07:02):
Two years ago, Justin Herbert had six hundred and ninety
nine passing attempts. This year, he's on pace for five
hundred and thirty the same number of games.

Speaker 2 (07:09):
Yeah, they want that because that means that you can
control the clock, you are probably ahead in the game,
and I think that's really the important part of all
of this. You're getting towards the postseason now, can you
do what you've done in the postseason and with Kansas
City as much as they're not a great team, but

(07:30):
having that ability to win who else game on the line.
What other team do you go they can be as
good as Kansas City? And the answer is nobody, truly nobody.
Can I trust Jalen Hurts in that moment, He's going
to make that big play. Josh Allen is going to
make that big play justin Herbert, Jordan Love, Jared Goff.

(07:56):
There's one Mahomes that's it because he has shown that
he can do that. These other players, you know, Jared
Goff has gotten to a super Bowl, an NFC titled game.
Jordan Love has played well last year in the postseason.
Josh Allen, we've seen him play well up until he
doesn't play well. You know, Joe Burrow's not going to
be in the playoffs. Tua, by the way, is playing

(08:18):
really well. I watch a lot of that game with
the Jets and he looks really it's going to sound
like it's not a compliment. He looks efficient, like there's
just an efficiency there and spreading the wealth around. Russell
Wilson Junior, the third played well, although I'm watching and

(08:40):
Jamis throws a touchdown pass and I'm like okay, And
Nate Burrelson comes on to give the update from CBS.
He's like, you know something about Jamis is must see TV,
just like Jerry Springer. And speaking of Jerry, Jerry Judy
with a touchdown, I go, okay. I think now let

(09:03):
me see the next time he gets the ball, because
I can pretty much guarantee James Winston's going to throw
an interception and bingo, bango, bongo. There you go. He
had two interceptions and two touchdown passes, one for me,
one for He's a share, he's a care Yes he is, Yes, Farvin.

Speaker 3 (09:23):
So he still hasn't been delivered from those pick sixties.

Speaker 2 (09:26):
No he is not, No, he is not.

Speaker 8 (09:28):
He has fall going back to Mahomes and winning the MVP.
It's if he ever wins it again, it probably won't
be Stats two years ago, he had forty one touchdowns.
Last year in sixteen games, twenty seven touchdowns, fourteen picks
for him, that's below average. This year he's on pace
for twenty seven touchdowns and fourteen picks.

Speaker 2 (09:47):
Yeah, yeah, I think those days are gone of you
know these guys, throwing forty touchdown passes, and I go back,
you know, year two he threw fifty touchdown passes. Second
year in the league, first year starting fifty touchdown passes.
I mean that's like Dan Marino his second year. They

(10:08):
went to the Super Bowl. All right, how about some
phone calls? Best and worst of the weekend, Vince in Austin, Vince,
welcome back.

Speaker 9 (10:18):
Good morning, guys, Happy Monday. This one two thirty at
Fluffy two thirty. Ah, worst of the weekend at Texas
Long Ones. Not only did we come up short Saturday
at the SEC championship game, we turn around, ain't got
to work here you go. Marvin's got worked by the

(10:38):
two time defending champion, Yukon Horistans.

Speaker 7 (10:41):
Oh my gosh. Never underestimate the heart of a champion, Vince.

Speaker 2 (10:46):
You have to do a pie to the face.

Speaker 9 (10:49):
Yeah, did we bett?

Speaker 10 (10:51):
Yes?

Speaker 11 (10:53):
No?

Speaker 2 (10:54):
Vince? Oh wow, now you.

Speaker 3 (10:59):
Called out Marvin Now not a humble pie, cherry cherry pie.

Speaker 2 (11:04):
Well, Vince, Vince.

Speaker 9 (11:07):
I watched that because across the street neighbor a single
mom said, dancer the Caabaret, her stage name is cherry Pie.

Speaker 7 (11:15):
So we don't watch how dies?

Speaker 11 (11:17):
All right?

Speaker 3 (11:18):
You know, a lot about his neighbor.

Speaker 2 (11:19):
Yeah, uh, cherry pie, all right, maybe a blueberry pie, Fretzy.
Don't google cherry pie in Austin.

Speaker 12 (11:29):
I did that once before I had to bring my
computer into the show.

Speaker 2 (11:31):
Yeah, yeah, don't do that, Vince. I think you should
do a blueberry pie.

Speaker 7 (11:35):
I'm allergic. Googberry's got you there.

Speaker 9 (11:38):
My favorite is key lime or lemon meringue.

Speaker 2 (11:41):
You can do that too, but the lemon will burn
a little bit. There, just saying, but you you owe
Marvin that you called him out, and uh, I'm glad
you called in to deliver.

Speaker 4 (11:52):
Yes.

Speaker 5 (11:52):
Yeah, you want to be careful with the citrus pies. Yeah,
don't leave them on too long they burn.

Speaker 2 (11:56):
Yes, yes, and maybe you can get cherry Pie to
come over smashing with a pie, Vince.

Speaker 7 (12:02):
This is a family show, guys, Come on.

Speaker 2 (12:06):
Thank you, Vin, cherry pie. H Randy and Idaho, Hi, Randy,
what's on your mind today?

Speaker 4 (12:18):
That's and worse for the weekend, that ram Bill game
very exciting. Worse the officiating in the ram Bill game.
They lost. They lost eleven seconds. There was an offensive
PI in the first half that was atrocious. And if
anyone can explain to me. How that wasn't holding by
Cooper Cup on the Rams final touchdown is beyond me.

(12:40):
I'm a high school football official, and holding a lot
of times is positioning. Cooper Cup gets lazy and he
wraps his arms both arms around the defender out in
front of the officials at the point of attack. That's holding.
Bad officiating in that.

Speaker 2 (12:56):
Game, Randy, what's it like to deal with high school parents?

Speaker 4 (13:04):
It almost makes you not want to officiate. The lower
you go, the worse. It is like junior high parents
standing on the sidelines screaming and they have no idea
what they're talking about, and that's why we have a
shortage officials nationwide.

Speaker 2 (13:20):
What's the worst it ever got?

Speaker 4 (13:23):
We got escorted out of a rivalry games parking lot
by police, and I think it was like a thirty
two point game, So I guess we had a big
outcome or a big impact on the outcome. The team
lost by thirty two points, but parents wanted to kill us.

Speaker 2 (13:44):
Well, why did you want to be an official to
begin with?

Speaker 4 (13:52):
It's kind of a bug. I did baseball for about
thirty five years and I got into football about twenty
five years ago. And if you do it it's it's addictive,
it's a blast. You work with some good guys. The
atmosphere is fun, and you kind of have to go
back to, hey, maybe we're helping you sports a little

(14:15):
bit by doing this.

Speaker 2 (14:16):
Well you are, and thanks for doing it, and thanks
for calling in, Randy. It's tough. I remember doing Little
league baseball and then I did Legion ball and I
was an umpire and you would have parents stand right
right on the fence. They'd be yelling right behind you.

(14:37):
The batting cage, batting airy, they'd be right there and
they would be pressed up against that. They'd be yelling
at you, and they would be sitting. That's a ball.
How can you call that? You like it was? I
had to run somebody one time and I said, you're
out of here. He said, says who, And I said

(14:59):
me And he goes, what are you going to do
about it? I said, I'm going to forfeit. The game
go ahead, So I said, all right, I'm gonna and
the guy goes, all right, all right, I'll leave, all right,
I'll leave. So he goes down first baseline and he's
just outside of the fence, and I can still hear

(15:22):
him because he didn't. He even said, you're kicking me
out of the ballpark, right, I said yes, And so
he just went to the outskirts and was still yelling.
And I'm thinking, I'm getting paid, like, I don't know,
four dollars an hour. You know, it's just not worth it.
It's not. And having a father who used to yell

(15:45):
at officials during my basketball games, I understand it. It's tough,
thankless job. And the fact that you have to be
escorted by police out of a parking lot. They should
not let parents go. They should say we're gonna make
the game available for you to watch it after the

(16:05):
kids are usually fine, it's the parents. Yeah, PAULI.

Speaker 8 (16:09):
I went to the youth game a couple months ago,
and this PA announcer is welcome to blank blank whatever.
Please be courteous to officials. Blah blah blah, do not
heckle the players. And if you did play professional basketball,
then you can tell the refs what they're doing.

Speaker 11 (16:21):
Please stand up.

Speaker 8 (16:21):
If you played in the NBA, nobody stands up and
everyone left. It's pretty snarky.

(17:10):
Good to see you. When the final rankings came out,
the playoff matchups came out, you thought, what.

Speaker 11 (17:18):
Is Oregon the number one seed or Georgia.

Speaker 13 (17:21):
That's the first thing when you saw the finalized bracket
was man Orgon's got a tough row hoe for a
team that was undefeated, that looked like the best team
all year long. And you look at their side and
if I'm starting to look at teams that I think
have the talent to get hot and to win this thing,
Ohio State, Tennessee, Texas all on their side, and so

(17:43):
if I'm Oregon, I probably was a little bit frustrated
from that. And then obviously the SMU Bama debate being settled,
going to SMU.

Speaker 2 (17:50):
Okay, what did you think about that decision?

Speaker 13 (17:54):
Well, here's the thing, man, I get a little bit frustrated.
And I know Bama fans are great fans, and they
should be great.

Speaker 11 (18:00):
They've had a lot to cheer belt.

Speaker 13 (18:02):
And I do understand how you point to the wins
and you say we have better wins than SMU, but
we also have to point to the losses. And we
got to realize that you got two losses to six
and six teams and you got beat by twenty one
to a six and six team. And so while I
do understand that they played better competition got more wins,

(18:22):
also to understand that they got dominated by a poor
team late in the season.

Speaker 11 (18:26):
They were very up and.

Speaker 13 (18:27):
Down throughout the season without a lack of consistency, and
SMU was really consistent and then lost in a championship game.
And the committee also showed us two the way they
ranked people like they did not hurt anybody for playing
in a championship game they have in years past. This
year you could tell Texas didn't get hurt. They still
got a huge ranking. They still got the three seed overall,

(18:50):
so Penn State.

Speaker 11 (18:51):
Same thing.

Speaker 13 (18:51):
They didn't drop people off the face of the earth
because of a conference championship loss.

Speaker 2 (18:55):
What would you tweak going into next season?

Speaker 13 (18:59):
Dan, It makes my head hurt when I see the
rankings and then the seatings being different, Like, I just need.

Speaker 11 (19:06):
It to all be one.

Speaker 13 (19:07):
I don't need all of this number of stuff. I'm
not that bright. I don't want to think that hard.
I think the best team should be on the they
should be seated one through twelve. If we're gonna stay
at twelve and seed the one through twelve and then
give them the best matchup and the best path going forward.
But the seatings, with the rankings, you know, it's just frustrating.

(19:29):
I think everybody would get away with or do away
with the preseason stuff, probably more and more because we
have preconceived notions going into the season that don't turn
out to be true with the ranked wins sometimes that
we're very fraudulent. But also would change one other thing, dam,
like I need more interconference matchups. So I need to
get rid of some of these cupcakes, and I need

(19:51):
the ACC to play. Every team in the ACC needs
to play one team in the SEC. Every team in
the AEC needs to play one team in the Big ten.
Every team in the AECC ne play one team in
the Big twelve. So now when we're doing this crossover
game and this strength of schedule game and who would
beat who game, we have more information and more data
points that go into it that can help us make

(20:12):
more informed decisions.

Speaker 2 (20:14):
I've been suggesting since this format started is if you
win your conference, you're in. I'm fine with that. It's
like the NCAA tournament with March Madness. If you win
the SEC, that doesn't mean you're number one seed. You
just get in the tournament. You're going to have a
pretty high seed. So Boise State winning its conference, at
Arizona State winning their conferences, you're in. That doesn't mean

(20:37):
you get a first round by let's be fair to everybody.
Have Vegas give you their odds, and then once you're in,
and then we seed you. We have one through twelve,
and then you have your matchup. So whoever is won.
If you have Oregon at one and you have Clemson
at twelve, that's your first round matchup, or they get

(20:57):
a buy for the first four you know, see you know,
first four ranked teams. I'm okay with all of that.
I don't think it's that difficult to figure this out
moving forward.

Speaker 13 (21:08):
We're gonna make everything difficult, that's what That's what we're
gonna do. I mean, we even made the head to
head difficult, Like you know, when you're starting to diagnose
you know, Bama, South Carolina, Oh Miss, and you're starting
to do that game between those three we were talking
and like everybody's banging the drum for South Carolina.

Speaker 11 (21:25):
They had a great.

Speaker 13 (21:25):
Season, Dan, an awesome season, but you lost the ball
teams Like that's part of the criteria. The criteria very
much stipulates its head to head and then common opponents,
which when you went with Bama and ole Miss, they
had a lot of common opponents and ole Miss quite
honestly fared better against them. But yeah, I think the
committee maybe a little more transparency there.

Speaker 11 (21:46):
I think you would take that too, Dan, wouldn't you?

Speaker 2 (21:48):
I would? But college football loves a mess, though, David,
if this was clean and there's no debate, like they
they want this to be debated there, they're okay with
being criticized. We were not allowed to see what goes
on in those meetings.

Speaker 11 (22:03):
So but at least we're debating.

Speaker 13 (22:04):
At least we're debating twelve, the twelfth of thirteen, fourteenth
team versus four, five and six, and then FSU, who
was undefeated, getting left out.

Speaker 11 (22:12):
So that makes you feel a heck of a lot better.

Speaker 13 (22:14):
You're leaving out a team that's that's going to bang
their chest they got three losses, Like, that's not We're
not feeling sorry for anybody with three losses.

Speaker 2 (22:21):
He's David Pollack, the former All American linebacker Georgia used
to be with the ESPN's College Game Day. You can
see David Pollack College Football on YouTube. How many teams
can win the national title?

Speaker 11 (22:34):
Man, that's a great question.

Speaker 13 (22:37):
I think I would go with confidently, I would go
with four.

Speaker 11 (22:43):
I think there's four teams that could win it.

Speaker 13 (22:45):
Actually, i'd go with five because I and I know
people are going to say this to me, like Notre
Dame's never done anything, and they're going to push back,
But I just I like the dominance that I've seen
from Notre Dame I like the attitude. I think they
know exactly who they are, which I think there's a
lot of teams in here that we don't really know
who they are. So the one side, I'll go Georgia
and Notre Dame. On the other side, again, this is

(23:07):
why the bracket's harder, I'll go Oregon. I think Tennessee
could win it. I think Ohio State could win it.
And I'm not there on Texas just because of their offense,
but I think with their defense, with their defense being so.

Speaker 11 (23:19):
Elite, I think it'll keep it in it.

Speaker 13 (23:20):
But their offense has been so I mean, it's so
strange to have a start team that's not great on offense.

Speaker 11 (23:26):
But I guess that's six four up top, two down low.

Speaker 2 (23:30):
Okay, should it be held against Georgia that Carson Beck
got injured and now now granted his backup is a
five star recruit, but we did this to Florida State.
I've already heard from Florida State fans, Oh yeah, are
you going to penalize Georgia Now it's twelve teams? If
it's four, I don't know if Georgia's in like, I

(23:52):
don't know how these things would have played out like that,
But did the committee penalize Georgia in any way that
they may not have their best quarterback going forward.

Speaker 13 (24:02):
I think the difference between FSU and Georgia to me
is Georgia clearly looked better with their backup quarterback. FSU
looked like a train wreck on offense, so that that's
where I would say. FSU's defense still looked elite. They
still won the ACC they were still great. Georgia's defense
still looked elite, But like I could, I would argue
by watching that game, the second half, Georgia's offense went

(24:23):
like this as opposed to off a cliff cliff with FSU.

Speaker 11 (24:27):
So I think that probably goes into it as well.

Speaker 2 (24:29):
And I know you played defense and watching these games
this weekend, like the NFL was violent, It's not as
violent as college football.

Speaker 3 (24:38):
It's just not.

Speaker 2 (24:39):
I mean, it feels like they let you play a
little bit more, you get away. I know they have targeting,
but damn that Texas game. I mean, holy smokes, David.

Speaker 13 (24:52):
That that hit near the goal line was outstanding too.
I mean, like, listen, I don't care we can debate
whether that's targeting, Dan, Like it's over time and you
are trying to score inside of my five.

Speaker 11 (25:03):
I'm taking your lid off.

Speaker 13 (25:05):
I'm doing whatever is necessary to keep you out of
my end zone. But I think the biggest difference when
I was in it, man, like the passion and adrenaline
and the hatred is a little bit stronger at the
college level. When I was in the NFL, I remember
being around piles and they're kind of like holding you up, like, hey,
don't get tangled up, don't get in the pile.

Speaker 11 (25:24):
I'm like, what, what? So I think it is. It
is definitely a different game.

Speaker 13 (25:30):
And listen, everybody can plan Dan when we went to
when we talked about nil and we talked about transfer portal,
and everybody got upset, and I get it. But because
of that, we have more parody in the game of
college football than we've ever had. Nobody's going anymore to
sit behind at big time schools and be developed. They're
going to get a paycheck, and so the talent is
spread out more. The dominance of the teams are aren't

(25:53):
as big as they used to be, and so I
think it's even more intense every week and more hatred
than some of the ride.

Speaker 11 (26:00):
He's obviously being there every single year.

Speaker 2 (26:02):
What if Ohio State loses to Tennessee.

Speaker 11 (26:06):
Oh boy.

Speaker 13 (26:08):
You know, it's interesting to hear Kirk on the broadcast
the other day talk about, you know, the Ohio State
and if if they start slow, the fans jumping on
top of them and booing, and there's just it's just
crazy with the Ryan day because forty seven and one
in the Big Ten, forty seven in one, but one
in four versus Michigan, and that has just been absolutely

(26:29):
his kryptonite and he's had no answer for it. And
even Michigan and Dan it's not hardball because he's gone. Like,
it's not all those players they got drafted because he's gone.
It's not Connor Stallions because he's gone. Like it's it's
running out of things on the other side that continue
to beat you. So if I'm an Ohio State fan,
I get the frustration. I know he's been great, but yeah,

(26:52):
first round loss to Tennessee, which could happen because Tennessee's
a really, really good football team.

Speaker 11 (26:57):
I don't know what the heck it looks like in Columbus.

Speaker 2 (27:00):
How rough was the year for Kaitlin de Bor at Alabama?

Speaker 13 (27:05):
You know, It's interesting because if we're gonna be fair,
and I always want to be fair, there's so many
players that left, like this is not the same team
Nick Saban had from a talent standpoint, like guys took
off left and right once they found out that Nick
Saban was leaving him was retiring, so his talent isn't
as great as it was. But I think the inconsistencies

(27:26):
in the up and down, and I think what you
thought with Kaylen de Bor you got was an offensive
genius who would score a bunch of points. So to
have them score, you know, the second last game of
the season against Oklahoma, to score three points and get
beat by twenty one, Like, that's not acceptable if you're
a Bama fan. Not going to the playoff is one thing,
but losing to Vandy, losing to Oklahoma, penalties, palooza, offense,

(27:48):
not taking off like you should. So I think there's
gonna be frustration. I think this helps recruiting from an
other standpoint, because the negative recruiting is gonna pile on
like crazy. So if we don't think he came in,
I'm not going to give him an a. I don't
think he failed either, but you know somewhere in there
was a c because it was a kind of a
it's kind of a blow average season for Alabama.

Speaker 2 (28:09):
He gets one of these, that's it, that's one of
these what seasons?

Speaker 13 (28:16):
Uh yeah, maybe two at the very most too.

Speaker 11 (28:20):
But yeah, you're you're right.

Speaker 13 (28:21):
Because this is not Alabama, Like, this is not their
standard and who they are, so yeah, there is. It's
not going to be a long leash for an Alabama
coach that has a lot of talent, a lot of
resources in the history of that program.

Speaker 2 (28:34):
Good to talk to you as always, David, Thanks for
joining us.

Speaker 11 (28:37):
Appreciate you, big dog.

Speaker 2 (28:38):
Always love David Pollack. College football. You can see a
show on YouTube and a new children's book, The Won't
Quit Kid, now vidable online at bravebooks dot com. A
couple of phone calls in here Ryan in Wisconsin, Good morning, Ryan.
What's on your mind today?

Speaker 10 (28:56):
Five eleven nineties. Best of the weekend is finding out
that C. J. Stroud is actually c J. Stroud the fourth,
therefore junior the third. I have I have no worst
of the weekend. College football was outstanding, but I do
have a song for you. Uh now, let's remember Sealery
came out of Wisconsin to We're obviously a hotbed for

(29:17):
musical content. But it's simply called d d C.

Speaker 2 (29:21):
So the Dead Dad's Club song. This is Ryan in Wisconsin.

Speaker 11 (29:25):
Down with d d C.

Speaker 10 (29:26):
Marvin Paul Lee with d d C C ten fritsty
me d d C, mo Man dp d d C. Yeah,
you know me.

Speaker 2 (29:36):
Well, thank you, thank you.

Speaker 3 (29:38):
Ryan.

Speaker 2 (29:40):
Didn't know we were needing a d DC song, but
we got it.

Speaker 7 (29:44):
Well.

Speaker 11 (29:45):
Naughty by nature?

Speaker 2 (29:46):
Yeah, very naughty, very naughty by nature.

Speaker 4 (29:50):
Uh.

Speaker 2 (29:50):
David in Ohio, Hi, David, what's on your mind today?

Speaker 7 (29:54):
Dan? I do not have a song for you, Okay,
don't worry about that. I got I got a best
of the best of the weekend. I got to first
one Russell Wilson, Let's ride against the Browns winning without
George Dickens. And I got another. So I'm up best
of the weekend. Just I'm gonna get your advice here.
We're having Christmas at our house this year, first time hosting,

(30:16):
never done it, but enough you had any advice for
etiquette and setting up and stuff like that.

Speaker 2 (30:22):
How many people are coming over?

Speaker 7 (30:25):
We got about fifteen, maybe maybe twenty.

Speaker 13 (30:29):
Uh.

Speaker 2 (30:31):
You have to be sort of a troubleshooter, like always
be there for your wife, and you're gonna be serving everybody,
like your people are gonna go, hey, you ran out
of toilet paper, Hey, where is such and such? You
always have your your a lifeguard, and you got to
watch the kiddie pool at the shallow end and the

(30:52):
deep end, and and try to have fun because your
wife will say, hey, David, are you gonna have fun?
I am, well, you probably won't be. You have to
be there and whatever people need, certainly your wife, I
would ask every thirty minutes or so, hunt anything you need,
anything you need, okay, And always don't disappear. Because when

(31:17):
I do my holiday party, I go in the garage
with Chad from Tragger and then I just stay there
and I figure if anybody wants to come outside and
it's cold, then you know, I'll socialize. But most people
just do a drive by and go into the house.
But make yourself available, have a smile, have patience, and
realize that it will eventually come to an end.

Speaker 7 (31:40):
Okay, I can handle it. Thank you for the life.

Speaker 2 (31:42):
Advice, all right, and hide the good booze. I forgot
that one time. Come down my neighbor got a Spenci
bottle of my Scotch and I go, hey, Bob goes,
I hope you didn't mind I crack this and I
go okay, and I was like, damn, that's that's an

(32:03):
expensive bottle. And Bob did a pretty good job on it.
So and I had really nice cigars one time. That's
a mistake too, because people don't even smoke cigars. They
go late, are these cubans can I? And I always say, hey,
if you don't smoke cigar, now, it's not time start
just saying, oh, you just want us not to have

(32:24):
your cigars. I go, well, that's true. And I left
the good cigars in there and it I came down
and all of these cigars looked like they had had
like three puffs and then they're stuffed in the ash tray.
It just looked like caskets that were sticking straight up
in the ground. And I go, oh my god. So
I learned from that, hide the good stuff, and if

(32:47):
you're going to have cigars, have cigars that are not
your top chef. Let's take a break here. When we
come back our best and worst of the weekend.

Speaker 1 (32:56):
Be sure to catch the live edition of The Dan
Patrick Show days in nine am Eastern six am Pacific
on Fox Sports Radio and the iHeartRadio.

Speaker 2 (33:05):
WAP See what were the pole results from our one
and what are the pole results for hour two? I'm
so glad that you asked.

Speaker 5 (33:15):
Let's see the CFP committee got it right or wrong?

Speaker 11 (33:21):
College Football Playoff Committee?

Speaker 5 (33:22):
Did they get it right or wrong?

Speaker 2 (33:23):
Right now?

Speaker 5 (33:24):
Seventy eight percent of the audience say they got it right. Refreshing,
refreshing to see who at the best weekend Puka Nakua
the Panthers, Dabo Sweeney or Juan Soto.

Speaker 2 (33:35):
Wan Soto is running away with that one.

Speaker 5 (33:38):
After that though, Dabbo in second place.

Speaker 2 (33:40):
Okay, all right, Well we kicked them to the curb
the beginning of the season, and rightfully, so felt so good. Yeah.
It's like you come out of your house and you're
not the baddest guy when you come out of your
house in your neighborhood, but when you're in your house,
you're like, hey, we're gonna be really good. It's they
came out of the they got roughed up, they went

(34:01):
back into the acc and they ended up winning. It's
all you got to do. Win your conference and you're in.
I just have a problem with the seeding. Once you
win and you're in. I think that's when Vegas because
Vegas doesn't have any emotional tie to any of this.
They're just being Vegas saying these are the best teams
and then you should rank them accordingly, seed them accordingly.

Speaker 5 (34:24):
Yeah, Sed, we also have up there the Minnesota Vikings
are geniuses or got lucky? Right now, sixty two percent
of the audience have them getting lucky.

Speaker 2 (34:32):
They did, they got lucky with Sam Darnold H.

Speaker 4 (34:35):
Todd.

Speaker 2 (34:36):
Let's go around the room. You start with your best
and worst of the weekend.

Speaker 11 (34:39):
Best of the weekend, and.

Speaker 12 (34:40):
Marvin gave me an extra push to check this out.
Watch the HBO documentary yacht Rock Friday Night with My Wife.

Speaker 2 (34:45):
How good.

Speaker 11 (34:45):
It was very good.

Speaker 12 (34:47):
Loved from the font to the interviews. Michael McDonald, Kenny Loggins,
band members from Tote found it very fascinating.

Speaker 2 (34:53):
But don't you have a whole new respect for Toto
with Toto's impact on music, which I don't think many
people would single out Toto and go wow, Michael McDonald,
I get Michael McDonald had a true impact on music.
Probably still does to a certain degree with what a
fool believes that song? Yes, Marmon, Yeah, I didn't realize.

Speaker 3 (35:14):
One of the guys from Toto wrote up Top five
Michael Jackson song Yes human Nature.

Speaker 11 (35:18):
Yes, like, oh man, that's a great song.

Speaker 3 (35:20):
Yeah, that's easily in my top five.

Speaker 2 (35:22):
Michael, You've come away with a whole different perspective of Toto.
And I never thought that I would be like, you know, Toto, Yes, Todd.

Speaker 3 (35:32):
I did like that they were being made fun of.

Speaker 12 (35:34):
They had never been to Africa and they're talking about
the Serengeti and different parts of Africa, and one of
the guys the interviews like things, guys have never been
there in their life. They're just randomly picking out words
and phrases there to do.

Speaker 2 (35:45):
There was an African American music critic. He had a
real problem with that video, a real problem. He's like,
white guy's never been there, and I don't like the video.

Speaker 3 (35:57):
The music video was cream.

Speaker 2 (36:03):
But Michael McDonald is the Michael Jordan of yacht rock.
I think we could all say that. Uh.

Speaker 3 (36:10):
And he was very unassuming.

Speaker 12 (36:11):
Listening to him and Christopher Cross and these guys, they
were like almost surprised with their fame. They didn't have
any kind of ego or attitude at all. They were
just happy to be along for the ride during that
period of years.

Speaker 2 (36:20):
Any negative and your worst of the week.

Speaker 3 (36:23):
My worst of the weekend was I Always stayed.

Speaker 12 (36:24):
Losing by twenty six to the Sun Devil's in the
Big twelve title game made me wonder how Byu or
Colorado would have fared in a more competitive Big twelve title.

Speaker 2 (36:31):
See No Counter Best and worst of the weekend.

Speaker 5 (36:33):
Michael McDonald not coming away from that thing with an
ego is a bit of a shock. My best of
the weekend to me, the clear winners is the Chiefs.
They just keep sneaking by, squeezing by all of these games.
I don't know if that's a good thing or a
bad thing, or if it's eventually going to catch up
to them, but it sure hasn't yet to me. The
worst of the weekend.

Speaker 3 (36:54):
Is the Bills.

Speaker 5 (36:55):
They just they're allowing home field advantage and handing it
right to the Chiefs, and they add absolutely cannot do that.

Speaker 2 (37:03):
It's weird that I feel, if I'm a Chiefs fan,
better that we're squeaking by, because that's what the playoffs
is all about. You can blow out teams, and then
I always wonder, what are you going to be like
when the game's on the line and you have to win.
You have to do something under pressure. Kansas City has
mastered that. Marvin Best and Worst of the Weekend.

Speaker 3 (37:23):
Best of the weekend Arizona State running back camp Scattabo Man,
how good is he? So good? Watch that game? I
was like, I don't know who this is. I really
didn't watch much of them. I should have sixteen carries, hardness,
seventy yards to touchdown.

Speaker 2 (37:36):
Nobody wanted to tackle. Even if you wanted to tackle,
you couldn't tackle this dude.

Speaker 3 (37:40):
A lot of business decisions there.

Speaker 2 (37:42):
He ran hard and you're going this guy and then
he did a Heisman post. I'm like, okay, you know,
great season. I don't know if I could give you
Heisman votes.

Speaker 3 (37:53):
Yep.

Speaker 2 (37:54):
Oh.

Speaker 3 (37:54):
Worse of the weekend. Sofi Stadium the Rams easily worse
home for the vantage in the NFL. Every single game
that the Rams play at home, it feels like, at best,
a neutral site game.

Speaker 2 (38:06):
Yeah, it's like you're playing in the mall. Yeah, I
don't know, You're right, I don't think that's a true
home field advantage, Paul. Best and worst of the weekend.

Speaker 8 (38:18):
The twelve team playoff bracket in college football. It's fantastic
because this might be a one year anomaly where teams
got in that maybe wouldn't get there Normally the past
ten years, it was always Ohio State, Georgia, Bama Repeat
and acacia A. Cincinnati would show up. You've got SMU,
You've got Indiana, you got Arizona State and Boise. It's fun.
It feels NC tournament ish and hopefully at lasts. Worst

(38:41):
of the weekend the Chicago Bears. No showing against the
forty nine ers. You got rid of your offensive coordinator
of the players wanted, You got rid of your head
coach last week that the players wanted, and you know,
show against the Niners. You can't blame thattt Irbraflus this weekend.
He wasn't there.

Speaker 2 (38:53):
Jared in Georgia, Hi, Jared, what's on your mind?

Speaker 4 (38:58):
AVP.

Speaker 14 (39:00):
Let's switch gears a little bit here. Got a question
for you. With the NBA being so unwatchable nowadays, where
they shoot fast thousand and three of the game, how
long do you think before they try to change the
way they play to make it more watchable.

Speaker 2 (39:15):
I don't know. I mean, I'd love to have the
commissioner on again, we usually having once a year. Is
he okay with this? That's what I'd be curious. Is
he okay with the product that's being put out there?
Because he may say, Hey, I like what we're doing
a lot of positives. You got the NBA Cup. I

(39:37):
mean he may say this is great.

Speaker 8 (39:39):
Yeah, Paul, I think it's the easiest fix, and we've
talked about it before, but really, just remove the three
point line. You open up the entire court. Guys will
still shoot from that distance because they're conditioned to it,
but you don't make it the focal point of the
game anymore. We reprove the three point line. Fans would
love it, and it would change the entire game for
next twenty years.

Speaker 2 (39:56):
Yeah, but you're bringing people in that are special They
specialize in this, like you drafted people, they specialize in this.
That's the hard part is all of a sudden, I'm
going to say, this is going to be counterintuitive to
what you built your team around. And I think that's
what I'd like to see them play a week of
basketball with no three point line. Yes, I would. I'd

(40:17):
like to see if the game is better, and I
believe it would be. More phone calls coming up. Best
and Worst of the weekend eight seven seven three DP
show operator Tyler sitting by to take your phone calls.
Two hours in the books on this Monday. Final hour
