Speaker 1 (00:00):
You are listening to the Dan Patrick Show on Fox
Sports Radio.

Speaker 2 (00:05):
It's our one on this Tuesday, Dan and the Dan
Edge Dan Patrick Show live from New Orleans. The gang's
all here ready to go. The Minister of Humor, Todd, Fritz, Marvin,
the Prince, Seaton, Paulie, Yours truly, the backroom guys, and
the great folks here at the Exchange in New Orleans.
All right, we have poll questions, We got our play

(00:26):
the day. Stat of the Day got some great guest
Charles Barkley will join us a little bit later on
Cooper Manning of the Manning family, the father of Arch Manning.
Will stop by. Brady Quinn from Fox Sports and Albert
Breer the Monday Morning Quarterback, as we get an update
on Miles Garrett, Cooper Cup where he could be headed?
And do the New Orleans Saints have their head coach.

(00:48):
He's in New Orleans, He's just not with the New
Orleans Saints. So we'll talk to Albert coming up in
a little bit. Your phone calls always welcome. Operator Tyler
sitting by each seven to seven three DP shows. Stat
of the Day is always brought to you by Panini America,
the official trading cards of this program first Hour, brought
to you by Keeper's Heart, a new and unique style
of whiskey that combines the best of Irish and American whiskey,

(01:11):
creating a smooth character of Irish whiskey and the bold
flavors of American whiskeys. If you're a whiskey fan, try
it and of course drink responsibly. All right, a few
items here. Yesterday we spent a lot of time first
couple of hours talking about the fallout from the Luca
ad trade, and then all of a sudden we're hit
with a football bomb. Not, as I guess, explosive is

(01:33):
what happened with Luca and Ad. But Miles Garrett wants
out of Cleveland. Now here's the pre eminent defensive line,
defensive player, former defensive player of the Year, and he
wants out of Cleveland. Now you can add some intrigue
or mystery to this because there's a report that Deon
Sanders doesn't want his son Shadoor Sanders to go to

(01:54):
the Cleveland Browns. Well, he certainly doesn't want them to
go to the Cleveland Browns. If you're going to have
Miles Garrett stage left, Now this is what I would
suggest if the Cleveland Brown's on the clock with the
second pick overall, and you are thinking about taking a quarterback,
or maybe you're not, then maybe you say to the
La Raiders or the Las Vegas Raiders, you can have

(02:16):
our draft pick and you can take Shador Sanders, which
is where shudor either the Giants or the Raiders he
probably would like to end up. But a lot of
time before we have the draft, and you know all
the gamesmanship that goes on there, but that possibility. But
Miles Garrett, the Browns say they're not trading him. That
that certainly is a big deal. And you have you know,

(02:38):
GMS down here. You have team members down here, so
you're going to get a lot of people talking to
a lot of people during Super Bowl Week. All right, Seaton,
what's the poll question for the first hour of the program. Well,
we got a bunch of options. We might as well
start with the Browns. Paul just sent this one over.
The Browns are dot dot dot a total mess or
in a great position for the future. Okay, both I

(03:02):
think yeh yeah. I mean, if you get rid of
Deshaun Watson's contract, maybe you eat it for that last year,
you got some draft picks and maybe you say, all right,
let's start over. We trade Miles Garrett. It's just I
don't trust the organization to do things right. That's the
problem is if this was in the hands of another organization,
you might go, all right, they get they'll figure this out.

(03:25):
There's a reason why these teams are usually bad teams.
You know, it's systemic that you can trade, you can
have different people, but you still have sort of the
front office, same ownership there. That's what would worry me
with the Cleveland Browns. You still have the same ownership
group there. I go back to when the Browns had
all those draft picks, first round draft picks, and everybody's like,

(03:45):
all the Browns, man, they're reloading, they're gonna be great. Well,
they had all those draft picks. They just weren't any
good with their drafting and they never got any better.
You know, Brady Quinn was part of that draft where
I think they got Joe Thomas, who became a Hall
of But you know you're drafting Brandon Whedon, you know,
a defensive back out of Oklahoma State. What was his name?

(04:07):
He went ninth overall, Justin Gilbert yeah, Yeah, that didn't
go well.

Speaker 3 (04:11):
Yeah, Seed, Yeah, there have been so many drafts for
that team that they had, say, two picks in the
first round, and you're like, man, they are all set up.
They just got their quarterback and their star wide receiver.
They just got their quarterback and their star whoever, and yeah,
crazy none of those has worked out.

Speaker 2 (04:26):
Yeah, Johnny Manziel, I mean you can run down the
list here.

Speaker 4 (04:28):
Yeah, if you go back to twenty twelve, what Seaton
was saying, Trent richardson round one, Brandon Whedon round one
didn't work out, Barkavis Mingo twenty thirteen, twenty fourteen, Justin Gilbert,
Johnny Manziel round one, Danny Shelton twenty fifteen, eh, Corey
Coleman wide receiver twenty sixteen, No Diice. And then they
stumbled into Miles Garrett in twenty seventeen. They couldn't screw

(04:51):
that one up.

Speaker 2 (04:51):
Yeah, Although there was a knock on Miles Garrett that
like he was too much of a renaissance man or something,
and he he quote poetry or something. You know, it's like,
I don't know, You're gonna trust this guy to be
a tough guy, and I'm like, Uh, that's the last
time I'm worry this guy reads. Oh my god, I'm
not drafting him. He can't be tough, socially conscious, he

(05:13):
knows who keets and you know, throw long Longfellow or
any of these other people who just said the word pros.

Speaker 3 (05:21):
Oh my god, and not like you're talking about athletes,
but like talking about text.

Speaker 2 (05:25):
Look at his spelling. It was media night last night,
and the local fans and they had a band in there.
You know, it was great, you know, but these are
savvy teams when it comes to these questions. Patrick Mahomes
is ready for whatever question you have. He's good. Yeah,
see get us, buddy.

Speaker 3 (05:42):
I was in the van today on the way over
and it's like, it's crazy how things change, you know.
But I was looking around the van and I was like,
oh my gosh, there's not a single person in here
that's hungover today.

Speaker 5 (05:55):
How did that? Wait?

Speaker 2 (05:56):
Are we growing up? Hold on a second bellas what's
going out here? Well, I got some backroom guys that
I can introduce you to. I think we've passed the
tom to those fellaws. Yes, I know. Look they jumped
in the pool in their underwear first night, so I'm
like all right, like I'm okay with it. We didn't
cause a disturbance and nobody complained. But they went out

(06:16):
last night again, went gambling, lost again, and I can
hear it in Dylan's voice that they had some beverages
as well. Yes, Paul I did go to Media Nite
last night.

Speaker 4 (06:26):
Did not live it up, but went to Media Nite
and Patrick mahomes Dan gets asked some variant of the
Tom Brady legacy question, like every fourth question, and then
they mix in a baseball question, they mix in a
basketball question.

Speaker 2 (06:38):
But he was totally prepared for every Brady question. Yeah,
here's a couple of the uh. Patrick Mahon, I like
this one though. He was asked about Luka Doncic and
the trade from the Dallas Mavericks.

Speaker 5 (06:50):
Yeah.

Speaker 6 (06:50):
Man, it's it's tough, and because I feel like I've
watched Luca since I've watched this since he was eighteen
years old. I remember going to a practice and it
was Derek and Luca and seeing his match and how
a great basketball player he's became. A has been fun
to watch, and as a Dallas fan, it hurts me,
but I'm happy for him that he's gonna be able
to go out there and I'm be in La and
get to try to achieve his gam of winning a championship.

(07:12):
He does so much, not only for the basketball team
but for the city of Dallas to always be appreciative
of those years. But I'm excited for the Mavericks moving
forward and the guys that they brought in.

Speaker 2 (07:21):
He loves being asked about this. He was asked about
his baseball career. You know, he'll wax poetic about that
and be like, oh, good, I don't have to talk
about Brady or Yeah, all of a sudden, you allow
a superstar athlete to also be a sports fan, They're like,
whoa this is You're right, I do watch basketball too,
thank you. Yeah, he's got opinions on things that we

(07:42):
do too, And Todd always leans into the Patrick Mahomes impersonation.

Speaker 5 (07:46):
I just don't know how the chemistry is going to
work between Lukeland Lebron.

Speaker 7 (07:50):
Good.

Speaker 4 (07:52):
Yes, so if you listen to Mahomes last night, he
again got asked about Brady a few times, and he
has a three step process for answering the question.

Speaker 2 (07:59):
He compliments Tom Brady.

Speaker 4 (08:01):
He says he has no control over his legacy, and
then he says he's just focused on this weekend's game.
It was one, two, three out. Every time he was
asked about Brady.

Speaker 2 (08:10):
Is it a stretch to say the Kansas City Chiefs
are Drake Current, Drake, Drake May, Drake, Drake the musician,
the artist that all of a sudden everybody turned on
Drake here. I don't know if that makes the Eagles
Kendrick Lamar, but you know, when you think about it,

(08:31):
the Chiefs came along and got rid of the Patriots.
That's what people wanted, Like, can somebody get rid of them?

Speaker 7 (08:38):
Thank God?

Speaker 2 (08:39):
Oh Mahomes he's awesome, and Tyreek Hill and Kelsey this
is great. Andy Reid won a Super Bowl. Now, all
of a sudden, it's like, uh, can somebody knock these
guys off? And it feels like, wasn't Drake at the
top of his game? He came from nowhere, rapper from
Canada and like, oh this guy man, this is great,
and then all of a sudden the world turned on him.

Speaker 3 (09:02):
And it's funny, yeah, because Drake it's still like the
most streamed artist every year, you know, so people are
listening to a song's a ton and at the same
time people kind of hate him.

Speaker 2 (09:13):
Well, the Grammy reaction to Kendrick Lamar winning and everybody
singing that song that has to do with Drake is
really kind of mind blowing. I can't imagine if Drake
is watching that. Was he there at the Grammys now
when the whole crowds singing, hey minor, no God, I know,

(09:37):
but imagine he's he's watching and all of a sudden,
that comes on and everybody stands up, everybody's singing. It
just feels like the Kansas City Chiefs. That's where we
are with him, Like we're tired of the Chiefs. And
you know, even Travis Kelsey was talking about that. Do
we have Kelsey?

Speaker 7 (09:56):
Uh?

Speaker 2 (09:56):
He kind of addressed them, like what's the deal? Like,
why does everybody not like the Kansas City Chiefs.

Speaker 1 (10:03):
Where will I be in three years?

Speaker 8 (10:04):
Oh man, I don't know. Hopefully still playing football. I
love I love doing this, I love coming into work
every day, and you know, I still I feel like
I still got a lot of good football left in me.

Speaker 5 (10:14):
But we'll see, We'll see what happens.

Speaker 8 (10:16):
I know, I've been setting myself up for other opportunities
in my life and That's always been the goal. Knowing
that football only lasts for so long. You got to
find a way to get into another career, into another
you know, profession, And I've been doing that in my
off seasons. But for the most part, I plan on
being a Kansas City Chief and playing football.

Speaker 2 (10:34):
Where will I all right? All right, I don't see
him playing three years. But he did joke about like,
why does everybody hate the Kansas City Chiefs? I think this?
You know, could I see a scenario where he retires
after this?

Speaker 7 (10:45):
I could?

Speaker 2 (10:46):
You know, he's got his podcast with his brother, and
he's gonna have a lot of offers to do media,
his relationship with Taylor Swift. I don't know if he
wants to go out this way. See, it's hard to
walk away from this. We always talk about what's the
per scenario, Well, if you win, you walk away. Well,
if you win, then you go God, we could do
it again. John Elway had to retire. They won, and

(11:10):
they were like, what a perfect way to go out. Well,
John couldn't play anymore physically, wasn't able to Travis Kelcey
can still play. He could be used like Gronk was
late in his career with the Patriots where it was, hey,
you don't do anything during the regular season, just be
great during the postseason. And maybe that's what Kelsey is
or will be here. But I don't know if you

(11:32):
know how long he wants to play, and if you're
looking at numbers, he's not going to catch Tony Gonzalez.
But I think Travis is probably going to be recognized
as the best tight end of all time. Yeah, Pauline,
I was with you.

Speaker 4 (11:44):
I thought if Travis Kelcey and the Chiefs won, he
would retire quickly because he's got so many opportunities. But
he's making so much money off the field. He could
give the Chiefs like a two year discount whatever the
veteran's minimum is, or a couple million bucks to play.
I don't think Gronk may that much, but it propelled
his brand for two more years. And like you said,
it's a fifty to fifty shot where he gets another

(12:05):
ring after this year.

Speaker 2 (12:06):
What are the poll questions that we considering first hour see.

Speaker 3 (12:10):
I think we're going to put up a Travis Kelcey
one too. If you were Travis Kelcey and the Chiefs
win the Super Bowl.

Speaker 2 (12:15):
This year, would you retire or keep it rolling? Okay?

Speaker 7 (12:18):
All right?

Speaker 2 (12:19):
H seven seven to three DP show email address Dpadanpatrick
dot com, Twitter handle at DP show. Still not a
lot of information about the why Luca was traded. What
I hate to see is people in the Mavericks organization
are covering the Mavericks leaking information about Luca. Luca was
this problem, his weight, was it drinking? You know, he

(12:43):
didn't fit in with the culture. Do you want to
spend that kind of money on him? Well, the Lakers did, so,
you know, this is one of those one of these
franchises to say they won this deal has to win
a championship here probably in the next three to five years.
If you're Dallas, the next two years, you have to
win a championship, and even then your GM could still

(13:06):
get fired in three or four years from now. Even
if you want a championship this year and then all
of a sudden things went south because Anthony Davis couldn't
play or Kyrie won it own. I mean, you're going
to be looking at what's going to happen with this GM,
his future there. But with what the Lakers did, the
Lakers were able to you know, they hit the reset button.

(13:27):
And I thought, because of that, you have the money,
you got star power, and that's what Los Angeles is
all about. You got star power. And it allows Lebron
to defer to you know, Luca, and Luca can learn
from Lebron. I think that's the most important part of
this is now Luca can see that's how you become
a professional, and that's how you can play for twenty years,

(13:50):
conditioning and wanting.

Speaker 7 (13:51):
You know.

Speaker 2 (13:52):
But people, I think misinterpreted the off season for Luca.
He did play basketball in the offseason. He played Olympic basketball.
It's not like, you know, he was on the beach
just pounding beers. Now, he might have been at some point,
but he was still playing basketball. Yes, and then they
make his way down to be two seventy five when

(14:14):
he got off the plane, he didn't look too seventy five.

Speaker 4 (14:17):
Well, I saw that video after Marvin reference it. He
was wearing all black hoodie, sweats, had to toe. It
was a little Manny Ramirez ish. Remember when many would
go baggy and you couldn't tell what was under there.
I couldn't tell what was under I think.

Speaker 2 (14:30):
It's more like Denzel in Equalizer. Yes, you can't tell
what's going on. Yeah, Like Denzel looks out of shape,
you know, with all black. They're still lighting people up though, Yeah,
he is, and so is Luca.

Speaker 7 (14:43):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (14:43):
One point five seconds he's broken the arm and stolen
the gun. You're like, whoa, how did that guy do that?
He wasn't it always like ten seconds? They had ten
seconds with Denzel thirty Yeah, Oh it's like a click
the watch.

Speaker 4 (14:58):
Yeah, if you and you see Denzel check his watch,
I've run for my life.

Speaker 2 (15:03):
All right, we'll take a break. We'll come up with
our poll question. Your phone calls are always welcome. We'll
get to those.

Speaker 7 (15:08):
Coming up.

Speaker 2 (15:09):

Speaker 2 (16:41):
We weren't able to bring a studio audience in to
watch the show, and a lot of people have asked
about that. We're at a great place for pickleball, the
Exchange in New Orleans and the Danez. They decided that
they wanted to have a match coming up and it's
going to be front row back row. So it's it's
Marvin and Paul le versus Fritzy and Setan and they're

(17:04):
going to play later on today. And I had the
odds to win the match here. So Seaton and Todd
right now are favored. Seatan and Todd are favored. H
Todd yesterday banging around a little bit, and you you
had some had some skill, but I enjoyed it. You
of course played tennis in high school.

Speaker 5 (17:26):
I was back up to the second doubles.

Speaker 10 (17:28):
So if the last player on second doubles was hurt
or sick or whatever, they might give me the chance
to get up there.

Speaker 2 (17:35):
That would make you the third I don't think there
was third doubles.

Speaker 10 (17:38):
There was like you sit there and we'll let you
know if everybody else can't play, you know, And then
they're actually, I'm not even joking.

Speaker 5 (17:44):
Some kid pulled up like in.

Speaker 10 (17:45):
A wheelchair from one of the other high schools and
he's like, you know, and they didn't even guarantee me
I was gonna play in that match.

Speaker 5 (17:51):
I was like, we may go to you here, so
warm up. You got fred Fred over there from Lafayette.

Speaker 2 (17:55):
High School in the wielchair area.

Speaker 5 (17:57):
Is oh that okay, all right, little offenders.

Speaker 3 (18:00):
What's funny is that, for like the last almost twenty years,
we've done nothing but make fun of Todd's alleged tennis
career until today where it's like, well, yeah, but Todd
played tennis, so of course he's gonna be good.

Speaker 7 (18:10):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (18:10):
Wow, all of a sudden, Todd's a tennis player. Before that,
he's a guy who never played sports. To the alst
guy shared.

Speaker 5 (18:15):
The story, it might be a pick him.

Speaker 2 (18:16):
Now, yeah, no, no, no, your favorite Well Todd is
a tennis you're.

Speaker 10 (18:21):
I was on the tennis team and I got a
couple of trips based on what everyone else accomplished.

Speaker 2 (18:25):
I watched the athleticism of the other guys. I think
you're ahead of the game.

Speaker 10 (18:29):
I'm some plantar fasciatis. I don't want to make excuses,
but both my heels hurt.

Speaker 2 (18:33):
Lot what injury will be sustained? First, I got the
odds are knee, achilles or ankle, hamstring, hip, arm, slash, elbow.
I don't really care for this one. Gotta admit, just
score first point, Seaton, You're the big winner there. I'll

(18:54):
take that player to miss the ball or hit the
ball out of play or into the net. The congratulations Paulie. Yeah,
I even call that one over under excuses complaints in
the match four and a half. Oh, I'm going over
with that. But these are the odds. The backroom guys
came up with the odds.

Speaker 3 (19:15):
We've already had that in just this segment. We're not
even playing yet. We're at at least five yes todds.
They're a chair up or rep. I didn't notice that.

Speaker 10 (19:21):
I was watching other people play that were very into
their pickleball, and I guess it's just kind of gentlemen's
rules as far as you know, if there's an argument
about a call, yeah, we just kind of work out
amongst themselves.

Speaker 2 (19:30):
I'm gonna be the headlinesman. Yes, yes, see, there.

Speaker 3 (19:34):
Was a moment yesterday where we were practicing a little
bit and it took like thirty seconds.

Speaker 2 (19:39):
So I was like, oh, we got this.

Speaker 3 (19:40):
This is easy, you know, and we're playing, and then
the coach here, the pro was like, okay, but you're
supposed to do it like ten feet apart from each other.
We were playing the game like it was tennis, you know,
like spread out all the way. Okay, but you're supposed
to be like right up on the net doing it,
which I still.

Speaker 5 (19:57):
Plan to play exactly like I said, take my chance.
And someone says, you were in the kitchen. You were
in the bedroom. Why were you doing that in the den?

Speaker 2 (20:03):
It's living room.

Speaker 5 (20:06):
You gotta let it bounce. You can't go into the
dining room and hit.

Speaker 2 (20:08):
Us the kitchen. That's it, cool man.

Speaker 5 (20:11):
I think her name was Muriel.

Speaker 7 (20:12):
She came over to me.

Speaker 5 (20:12):
You've never played before.

Speaker 2 (20:14):
You were dinking in the laundry room. Oh you guys
don't understand the ryals. Okay, Muriel, two bounces. Murial. I
don't remember seeing Muriel, but she was there.

Speaker 5 (20:27):
With Gloria and they would Sadie.

Speaker 10 (20:28):
They were all there, they were looking and the other
you came in from Palm beach to play a pickle
ball with us.

Speaker 7 (20:33):
I know what's going on.

Speaker 2 (20:34):
Yes, I like Todd's doing every old pickleball stereotype.

Speaker 7 (20:37):
If that's the thing.

Speaker 4 (20:38):
Everyone here that we've seen playing is like twenty three
years old, shy jack. Every guy looks like a bold
and there's some tough football player.

Speaker 2 (20:46):
Yeah. Janis Winston plays here. Uh, Cam Jordan plays here.

Speaker 5 (20:50):
Mike Dunley Bey came by the chat with you.

Speaker 2 (20:52):
How about that. Mike Dunlevy senior. Mike dunley Vy senior
came in. He plays pickleball five days a week. A
little bit of a social scene around here. It was yeah,
like if I'm single, yeah, I'm picking up a rocket.
That's why I started to figure it out a little bit.
This was I was like, oh wait a minute, I
think I know what's going on here. They got a
bar here, Yeah, they got two. Oh see that's why

(21:14):
this place is so ready. Yeah yeah, hun, I'm going
to go play pickleball. Yeah, so be back one, let's
just go grab a drink.

Speaker 10 (21:25):
Okay, yes, but they're right, bo I got the stereotypes
all wrong. I thought pickleball was one type of group where, like,
you know, the seventy to ninety crowd or something like that.

Speaker 5 (21:33):
Oh my back, I get last next point wins. I can't.
I got four o'clock dinner.

Speaker 7 (21:37):
It's not like that.

Speaker 2 (21:39):
Who says oi A lot a lot of yeah, oh
yeah here, oh so human?

Speaker 5 (21:44):
Maybe not here, but that's what I pictured pickleball to. No,
I can't hit.

Speaker 2 (21:48):
You think it's like, you know, shuffle board or something.

Speaker 10 (21:51):
Yes, activity you can do. It's the last thing you
do before your bed ridden. That's what I thought it was.
But it's not that one.

Speaker 2 (21:57):
All right, So we'll have that for you a little
bit later on today the match it's Todd and Seatan
versus Marv and Paulie. Oh yeah, it's is.

Speaker 10 (22:11):
Your point system by No, I'm curious, like, how do
you were favored by?

Speaker 5 (22:14):
Is it two and a half points?

Speaker 2 (22:15):
Is it?

Speaker 5 (22:16):
What is the number? How does the how do they
say pickleballs?

Speaker 2 (22:19):
Points about? We wear about that later. All right, we
got a show to do. You know him as the
top NFL reporter for the Monday Morning Quarterback. He's borderline
a member of this show at this point. He is
the Monday Morning Quarterback. He's Albert Breer who joins us
on the program. You. Yeah, alrighty man, what like are

(22:41):
you going surfingers?

Speaker 7 (22:42):
Blake?

Speaker 2 (22:43):
You got you got camo shorts on like you got
burken stocks.

Speaker 7 (22:47):
It's my my casual look this morning.

Speaker 2 (22:49):
It's like you're you're picking up the baton from Peter
King the way he used to dress. Peter would wear
the shortest of shorts.

Speaker 7 (22:58):
I'm constantly in his shadow.

Speaker 11 (22:59):
I guess yeah, I uh.

Speaker 4 (23:02):
I, I.

Speaker 11 (23:04):
Messed up the time zone and so like that that
that has that that contributed to.

Speaker 7 (23:09):
My to the state I'm in right now.

Speaker 2 (23:11):
Okay, Central time you got stood up a little.

Speaker 7 (23:13):
Bit still adjusted. Well, no, I messed up. I messed
up some of the.

Speaker 11 (23:18):
Timing, as Todd knows, and yeah it was uh I'm
here though, I'm here all right.

Speaker 2 (23:24):
So how surprised were you with the Miles Garrett trade request.

Speaker 11 (23:28):
I'm not shocked because these things like have happened over
the last ten years.

Speaker 7 (23:33):
I think the dynamic in the NFL has changed. You know.

Speaker 11 (23:36):
What was really interesting about it to me is like
that he went public the way that he did, which
sort of tells you the truth, which the truth is
that their request has been in and the idea of
going public is that he's frustrated that they're not accommodating him,
and so you know, I think what going public does
for him now is it puts him in a position
to put or puts the Browns in a position where

(23:58):
they don't have to pick up the phone at all.
They can say, we're not we're not changing our position.
We are we are, but calls are.

Speaker 7 (24:04):
Going to come in. You know, obviously he is what
he is, which is probably, I.

Speaker 11 (24:08):
Don't know, one of the tough five or so defensive
players of the last decade.

Speaker 2 (24:13):
So let's he worth.

Speaker 11 (24:15):
I think the base lines that is two first round picks,
So I think you go started that number and then
go from there. It's what Jalen Ramsey got, It's what
Larmy Tunsel got.

Speaker 7 (24:27):
Now.

Speaker 11 (24:28):
I think, you know, you got to do something to
get the Browns' attention, So maybe it winds up being
more than that. The other thing you have to remember,
I mean like, two first round picks sounds like this
eye popping hall. The reality is the team, most of
the teams that are gonna want Miles Garrett are gonna
be teams that are gonna win now spot and their
picks are going to be down in the twenties or
even the thirties, you know.

Speaker 7 (24:47):
So yeah, I mean I expect there to be a
lot of interest.

Speaker 11 (24:51):
And you know, I mean the Browns position is what
it should be right now, which is like we're not
trading a generational player.

Speaker 7 (24:56):
Were in the playoffs two years ago.

Speaker 11 (24:58):
So you know, I think for another team coming in,
it's like you really have to do something to get
their attention.

Speaker 2 (25:04):
We've talked about this before. Dion Sanders impact on the
draft with his son, and there was a report that
Dion would not want his son to go to the
Cleveland Browns if they were to take him. Would that
scare off the Cleveland Browns in your opinion, I.

Speaker 11 (25:23):
Don't know he's going that high anyway, but I think
it's something they'd have to consider. And you know, I
think we saw it twenty years ago. When a guy
has an NFL dad, generally those guys are more business minded.
I think you can even see it with like the
way like a Patrick's or Tan carries himself.

Speaker 7 (25:42):
You know, it's when when.

Speaker 11 (25:43):
A guy's got a dad's who's been through it and
went through it, they generally have like a they naturally
have a really good feel for the way the business works.

Speaker 7 (25:51):
And you know, I don't blame Deon for looking.

Speaker 11 (25:54):
At it and saying, I just want my kid in
a good situation. I want my kid in a situation
that's going to give them the best chance to have
a ten to fifteen year career as a starter in
the NFL.

Speaker 7 (26:04):
And I think Dion's smart enough to know that.

Speaker 11 (26:07):
Like you look at the best quarterbacks in the league,
how many went into bad circumstances, Like we always talk
about how they go to bad teams. Josh Allen was
drafted by a playoff team. Well, Lamar Jackson was drafted
by a playoff team. Patrick Mahomes was drafted by a
playoff team. Like, all of those teams were in the
playoffs the year before, so they weren't going to broken situations.
Not to say they wouldn't have made it anyway, but

(26:29):
like they went to situations that weren't just complete train wrecks.
So you know, I think Dion obviously has been around
long enough to know it and see it and see
the difference between one thing and another.

Speaker 7 (26:40):
And obviously once it was best for his son.

Speaker 2 (26:43):
But you look at Cleveland, it's almost like that is
the epicenter of the NFL because you got Deshaun Watson,
they have the number two pick, and then you have
the Miles Garrett situation. You play in a very competitive
division as well. I don't know, are they closer to
being good or close to being really bad?

Speaker 7 (27:02):
I so I think they're in an interesting spot in that.

Speaker 11 (27:07):
The core that they have only has so many more shots,
you know what I mean. Like, so you got Miles
Garrett going into year nine, you have Denzel Ward going
into year eight. You've got some really good linement. Joel
Batonio has been there forever, who are starting to age,
So like, I think it's I still think it's a
good operation.

Speaker 7 (27:25):
Like if you look at.

Speaker 11 (27:26):
What they've done, you know, over the last five years,
which is where they were before that, they've made the
playoffs twice, and the second time they made the playoffs
it was amid the Deshaun Watson thing completely falling apart
on them.

Speaker 7 (27:38):
So I think it's a good operation.

Speaker 11 (27:39):
That it made a really big mistake in trading for
Deshaun Watson, you know, and they got to live with that,
and they got to wear that, But I still think,
how long do you live with it? Well, I think
now is where you don't live with it now now
this is where and I've said this since November, like,
this plan is not new, is not directly related to
the second Achilles tear. When Watson went down, based on

(28:01):
where they were, they had made the decision we are
no longer going to to coddle him or protect him
because last year, one of the reasons they didn't bring
Joe Flacco back was because that wouldn't that may not
have been healthy for DeShawn because having Joe the team
could look at him and say, like Deshaun, the team
could look and say, we've got a better option in

(28:21):
the room with him and Joe Flacco, and that wouldn't
have been wouldn't have been great for Deshaun coming off
of that injury. After what they went through this year,
they made the conscious decision and this was in season,
they made the decision where at the very.

Speaker 7 (28:33):
Least going to add competition to the room. So rather
than trying.

Speaker 11 (28:37):
To build a quarterback room to support him, we're gonna
we're gonna put somebody in there who could take his job.

Speaker 7 (28:42):
And so that was a baseline.

Speaker 11 (28:44):
Before he had the second Achilles tear and then he
has the second Achilles tair and now you know again
like it's just like how to me, It's like when
you're looking at guys like Garrett and you're looking at
guys like Garrett and Ward on that roster, it's it's timelines.
It's like, can we fix the quarterback position fast enough
to get good enough to compete at a high enough

(29:05):
level to contend for a championship?

Speaker 7 (29:07):
Wild? Garrett and Ward and some of those other guys
still have something left.

Speaker 2 (29:11):
Each Albert Breer, the Monday morning quarterback. Uh, Cooper Cup
on the market, what does he bring in refferent?

Speaker 11 (29:18):
I mean it's a different kettle of fish than Garrett.
You know, we talked about the two of them.

Speaker 2 (29:21):
Because this is a playoff team. But I know there's
a big number with Cooper Cup's salary. Yeah, is that
what they're real?

Speaker 7 (29:29):
I think it's just sort of run its course.

Speaker 11 (29:31):
They also have a big Like no one's talking about
the Matthew Stafford thing.

Speaker 7 (29:36):
I don't understand it, Like, I.

Speaker 11 (29:38):
Don't understand why nobody's talking about the idea that Stafford
could be available. And then if you're another team, you're
probably calling the Rams that contract negotiation last year was tough.

Speaker 2 (29:48):
But you're seven points away from the NFC title game.

Speaker 7 (29:51):
I know, I know. But here's the thing.

Speaker 11 (29:53):
Like, so they went through i mean like a legitimate,
like four or five month negotiation, they wind up being
and dating it right like in the summer.

Speaker 7 (30:01):
So you get to July and they do they push
five million dollars forward.

Speaker 11 (30:06):
From twenty five and twenty six into twenty four, guarantee
all of it, and then remove all of his guarantees
like post twenty four. So now we're into a part
of his contract where there's.

Speaker 7 (30:13):
No guaranteed money left.

Speaker 11 (30:14):
He's making less money than he was on the books
to make this year because they borrowed from that to
give him the money this past year.

Speaker 7 (30:23):
And they had had an.

Speaker 11 (30:24):
Agreement when they they when they did the reworked deal,
we're going to revisit it at the end of the year.

Speaker 7 (30:31):
Well, now we're at the point where they're going to
revisit it.

Speaker 11 (30:33):
So what if Matthew Stafford wants a market correction and says,
what is it, seven or eight guys are making over
fifty million, I want fifty million.

Speaker 7 (30:41):
There's just a lot of stuff there where. Okay, But
if I'm another team, I make that call, you know, but.

Speaker 2 (30:46):
There's only a couple of teams that are going to
make that call.

Speaker 7 (30:48):
Dealers.

Speaker 2 (30:50):
Okay, does his wife want to move out of Los Angeles?

Speaker 7 (30:53):
I mean, and that's a fair question. Yeah, I mean,
that's a fair question.

Speaker 11 (30:56):
But I do think I mean, Matthew said he wants
to keep playing, you know, so I think the coaches
would love to have him back in Los Angeles. I
think there's just there's a lot there that they've got
to work through over the next few weeks, and maybe
it winds up being fine. But I know this, like
if I'm one of those teams that if I feel
like I'm a quarterback away and I look at the

(31:16):
market and I see Sam Donald, Russell Wilson, justin feels
that Stafford's the guy who can put you over the top.
I mean it, we saw it four years ago, you know,
when he was available in the Rams.

Speaker 7 (31:26):
You know, we put the Rams over the top.

Speaker 11 (31:27):
And the Steelers is another one where I'm thinking of
those timelines, you know what I mean.

Speaker 7 (31:31):
TJ. Watt turns thirty one. I believe this year thirty two.

Speaker 11 (31:35):
Minka Fitzpatrick, I believe it's turning twenty nine this year.
So the Steelers are like in that same position I
talked about with Cleveland where it's like they don't have
their answer at quarterback. They don't have a quarterback we
can put them in a position to compete with Mahomes,
Alan Burrow Lamar in the AFC right now, So like

(31:55):
they're sort of in this no man's land with those
star players where it's like, can we fix this position
fast enough so we can compete with TJ and Minka still.

Speaker 7 (32:04):
At the height of their powers, or.

Speaker 11 (32:08):
Do we have to look at resetting completely? You know,
I think that the Steelers are the one where I
look at them. It's like if there's a team that
could take a swinging quarterback, they would be them, And
I'd say, like, just looking at where they're at, Like
if I'm them, I'm on the phone with the Rams,
I'm saying, look like you, then.

Speaker 2 (32:25):
I would say, we want Cooper cup and Matthew Stafford
if you're the Steelers.

Speaker 11 (32:29):
And they would the Rams would probably do that, you know,
Like if I'm not, they wouldn't. I'm not saying that
they dude Stafford now, but if they had gotten to
the point where we're trading Stafford, I think that, you know,
you could do some sort of.

Speaker 2 (32:41):
Package deal there, Sam Darnold.

Speaker 11 (32:44):
Yeah, So like the vikings are in, the vikings are
I would say comfortable with the idea now of going
to JJ McCarthy in twenty twenty five if that's the
way things shake out. You know, he lost four months
of development time that he would have gotten had he
not gotten hurt. But the second surgery was just a cleanup,
and he was very engaged. And if you want to

(33:07):
go back to August, like he had done enough to
at least create some intrigue in that building, like is
he a better option than and Sam had a great year,
but it got them to kind of look at their
plan and say, is there going to come a point
when we want to.

Speaker 7 (33:19):
Put JJ out there this year?

Speaker 11 (33:20):
So he had made that much progress even though they
planned in red shirting him. Then he gets hurt and
he stayed engaged. Like my understanding is like when the
team was out on the practice field, he would go
and do his rehab, but other than that he was
involved in the quarterback room and all the meetings and
all of that. And then he started traveling with the
team in October so he could be part of the
game day operation, so he could be on the headsets,

(33:41):
all that different stuff. They feel really good about where
JJ is and I think what it does. It doesn't
mean Sam's gone, but it does give them some flexibility
where they can draw lines now.

Speaker 7 (33:52):
And maybe the.

Speaker 11 (33:54):
Answer is to franchise if that's forty million dollars a
lot of money, or maybe they can let him go
to the market and say come back to us, and like,
you know, we don't want to. We don't We may
not want to reset the market. We understands the risk
we lose you if you do this, but we love you.
Go to the market and see what's up. You know
it's And it's interesting too because to me, you won

(34:14):
fourteen games. You want to give the veterans on your team,
you know, guys like the Harrison Smith's back, you know
Jonathan Gernard, you know obviously Justin Jefferson, Christian Derris saw
these guys who are part of this fourteen win team,
Like you want to give them the best chance at
the most important position, so you do want to be
stocked there.

Speaker 7 (34:36):
But I do think they feel comfortable with the guys JJ.

Speaker 2 (34:38):
All right, Final thirty seconds. We're going to play the
Miles Garrett game. Okay, later on, where will he go?
I'll let you have your.

Speaker 7 (34:46):
My favorite destination will be Detroit.

Speaker 11 (34:49):
Oh, I Like, I just think about that, Like, I'm like,
they're they're in a spot now where they don't need
their first.

Speaker 7 (34:56):
Round pack there they they don't really need.

Speaker 11 (34:59):
To keep starck they like, they may be in a
position where, if you're them, you can almost say, like
we may only have five or six rookies make our team,
you know what I mean? Like, so are they in
a position now where it's like we can spend, we
can start to flip picks.

Speaker 7 (35:13):
If you're them and you lost all of these coaches.

Speaker 11 (35:15):
And you want to flip the momentum and kind of
keep things going in.

Speaker 7 (35:18):
The right direction.

Speaker 11 (35:19):
I mean, God, the idea of Miles Garrett opposite Aiden
Hutch I mean, like that.

Speaker 7 (35:26):
To me is really intriguing.

Speaker 11 (35:28):
And so I mean I think Detroit is just Detroit
in this championship window.

Speaker 7 (35:34):
And like after I.

Speaker 11 (35:35):
Mean they had so much momentum and then they the
ugly loss to Washington and it was six or seven coaches,
and it's like looks like, oh God, are they missing
the window. What's the easiest way to flip that?

Speaker 2 (35:49):
That's interesting. I like that. Albert Breer, the Monday Morning
Quarterbacks senior NFL reporter, Thanks.

Speaker 11 (35:54):
You, by the way, they did call at the trade
deadline on Miles Okay he was now he was not
a bailable but they at least inquired when they traded
for Zadarius Smith.

Speaker 2 (36:03):
So thanks again. You got it all season long. We'll
come back. Our Play of the Day up next Charles

Speaker 7 (36:50):

Speaker 2 (36:50):
Tray scored seventeen of his thirty four in the fourth quarter.

That was a good visit from Albert Breer. I did
not think of I knew the Lions inquired about Miles Garrett,
or at least there was a report that they were
going to and the Browns denied them that. But now
here Miles Garrett wanning out And if you're Detroit, your

(37:31):
window of opportunity, as we've seen before, just ask San Francisco.
It closes quickly. I also have the DraftKings odds. Miles
Garrett will play his next snap four Marvin, I'll start
with you.

Speaker 7 (37:53):
The Chicago Bears.

Speaker 2 (37:54):
The Bears not in the top five, Todd, The Green
Bay Packers, they're not in the top The Atlanta Falcons,
they're not in the top five. Wow, Seatan the Commanders
their second.

Speaker 7 (38:08):
On that, let's go.

Speaker 2 (38:11):
The Browns are the favorites, not going anywhere. Then it's
the Raiders, which I wondered about that. Max Crosby, Miles Garrett. Okay,
that's something going on there. Then it's the Lions not
really helping his case if he wants to go to
a winner though, that is true, but Tom Brady's a
winner and he'll be there, so he might not think that,

(38:33):
so nobody he would just hang around Tom. He would
hang around a winner, not necessarily his teammates. The Patriots
also in there as well. But I think that's interesting
with the Cleveland Browns. The Browns, of course they're going
to say not going anywhere. They want to see how
much they can get for Miles Garrett. But if you
look back on the Khalil Mack trade, when Khalil Mack

(38:55):
went to the Bears a few years ago, he was
kind of in the same position here. The Bears gave
up first round picks in twenty nineteen, twenty twenty, a
third round pick, a sixth round pick, and they got
Mac and then the Bears also received a second round
pick and the fifth round pick. All right, so that's
a lot. So it's more than just two first round picks.
But that's where you're starting. That's the conversation gets started

(39:17):
with two first round picks. Yes, Marvin, if you're the Lions.
Should you pull La Rams and just go all in?
You know what, we don't need all these draft picks.
We're trying to win right now. That city, yes, yes,
and you know, having depth, and they really tested that
because they did as best they could with their defense.

(39:38):
They just kept you know, there were too many holes
to fill. The Cooper Cup. How about this Cooper Cup
odds of where he'll end up next season? Seatan will
start with you. The Dallas Cowboys, they're not part of
the top five. What, Todd?

Speaker 5 (39:57):
The Miami Dolphins, they're not part.

Speaker 2 (39:59):
Of the top five.

Speaker 7 (40:00):
Paul, the New England Patriots.

Speaker 2 (40:02):
They are fourth on the list. Marvin. The Kansas City
Chiefs they are.

Speaker 11 (40:08):
No.

Speaker 2 (40:09):
But that would be typical of the Chiefs.

Speaker 5 (40:11):
I mean they just got Theandrea Hawkins. It's not possibility.

Speaker 2 (40:13):
No, that'd be one of those where they go way.
They got Cooper Cup. Yeah, they gave up a fourth
round pick.

Speaker 7 (40:19):
What the heck?

Speaker 2 (40:19):
What? The Steelers and the Bengals are tied for the
best odds to land Cooper Cup. There's a report the
Rams want to trade him if they do out out
of the NFC. So the teams on here, Steelers, Bengals, Patriots, Chargers.
The Commanders also in there as well. Yes, so would
you rather play for the Steelers or the Bengals? Probably

(40:41):
rather go to the Bengals, Right, Well, I'm gonna play
with Joe Burrow. Yeah, and I don't have to be
the number one option with Jamar Chase.

Speaker 3 (40:50):
Their season this year is still one of the more
puzzling things that's ever happened.

Speaker 2 (40:54):
How do you have the wide receiver wins the Triple Crown,
you have a quarterback who would have been an MVP
if they were actually a playoff team, and you have
the sack leader as well. I don't know if that's
happened before, but you know, Burrow had an unbelievable year.
Jamar Chase did, and like Ray Hendrickson, you like drastically underperformed.

Speaker 3 (41:17):
Yes, and no one got fired or anything, right, I
don't like nothing happened.

Speaker 2 (41:22):
It was just like, ah, just a fluke season. See
you next year. One Hour in the Books on this Tuesday,
Charles Barkley will join us. Coming up top of the hour,
Brady Quinn from Fox Sports will stop by, and he's
the dad of Arch Manning. Cooper Manning. The Manning family
