Speaker 1 (00:00):
You are listening to The Dan Patrick Show on Fox
Sports Radio Final Hour.
Speaker 2 (00:05):
In this Thursday Dan and The Dan Net's Dan Patrick Show.
I got caught up in something else, another story at
the end of last hour, and I forgot to tell
you the story when I got punked on Sports Center
with Steve Bartman, and somebody who worked for The Howard
Stern Show, Captain Jenks, called up and said that he
was Steve Bartman. This was an exclusive. I was doing
(00:27):
the six o'clock Sports Center and I quickly realized that
I had been had by one of Howard Stern's friends
of the show, callers of the show, prankster Captain Jenks.
So I'll have that for you coming up. I'll recap.
Paul goes up. We're going to talk about it. We
got to play the prank call and I go it's
(00:48):
painful to hear it.
Speaker 3 (00:49):
You did nothing wrong.
Speaker 2 (00:50):
It was still painful to hear it's live on live TV.
I was watching Thank You, Thank You stat of the Day.
It brought to you by Panini America, the official trading
cards of The Danatrick Show. The uh My Oilers One
Last Night in Overtime with Leon Dry Sidle and this
is how it sounded. No, that's not the actual sound.
(01:13):
This is out of the part who sharp Hopkins?
Speaker 1 (01:17):
Whither?
Speaker 2 (01:20):
Where's the cam?
Speaker 4 (01:27):
Game on?
Speaker 2 (01:29):
All right? Yours might be better than Kenny Alberts call there,
you know, just saying yeah, Paul.
Speaker 3 (01:33):
Just to clarify, See, on these calls you have to
have zibbity Bob.
Speaker 5 (01:38):
I've a rehearse, usually just before he's about the score.
For some reason, I say zibit because it happened so quickly.
I don't know how you get all the names in there.
And then Seaton just.
Speaker 2 (01:51):
It's like a jazz.
Speaker 4 (01:54):
Dry.
Speaker 2 (01:55):
Some of these dudes are speaking so quickly, so fast.
I mean, they're doing such a great job. But to me,
I'm like, I can't make out anything until you hear.
Speaker 6 (02:04):
Se.
Speaker 2 (02:04):
Good morning if you're watching on Peacock that's our streaming partner,
download the app if you haven't done so, and we
say good morning to our radio affiliates around the country.
iHeartRadio Fox Sports Radio. Not to be confused with the
Stanley Cup Final. It's the NBA Finals tonight. Pacers at
the Thunder and the Thunder are nine and a half
(02:25):
point favorites. Tim McMahon ESPN reporter and he's the author
of The Wonder Boy, Luka Doncic and The Curse of Greatness.
But he'll be covering the NBA Finals. Why is it
the Stanley Cup Final and the NBA Finals?
Speaker 7 (02:41):
Tim, Howdy, Dan, I am not qualified for any discus.
Speaker 8 (02:46):
I'm just gonna focus purely on basketball.
Speaker 2 (02:49):
And wait, this is just grammar, Tim, this isn't just
as a writer. You're not qualified to talk about grammar.
Speaker 7 (02:59):
Those editors.
Speaker 2 (03:00):
Okay, Pacers are overwhelming underdogs, historically large underdogs.
Speaker 8 (03:07):
Why, I mean, the simple reason is because the thunder
are really really good. You know, the thunder are a
team that won sixty eight games this regular season with
the best point differential in NBA history. You know, obviously
they were challenged by the Nuggets in the second round,
but other than that, they've cruised through the playoffs. And
I mean this is they've had four thirty plus point
(03:28):
wins during the playoffs, something that's never happened in a
single postseason run. I don't think it's it's a disrespect
thing toward the Pacers. Obviously, the Pacers weren't a team
that people expected to see in the finals.
Speaker 7 (03:40):
Got off to a slow start, they're four seed, they
earned their way here.
Speaker 8 (03:44):
But I look at the odds more as a nod
to just have dominant the Thunder have been in any
kind of knock against the Pacers.
Speaker 2 (03:51):
I think a lot of this, though, is brand awareness
that we look at the Pacers. People didn't watch the Pacers.
People are just you know, being introduced to the Pacers.
And really the same thing for OKC, because if I,
let's say I put the Knicks in there against OKAC,
would it be you know, would the odds to win
a championship be this large of a margin here? Would
(04:14):
we factor in the Knicks that somehow they're the Knicks,
they'd have a better chance than the Pacers.
Speaker 7 (04:20):
I mean, honestly, I.
Speaker 8 (04:22):
Maybe only because of the way the money works in Vegas,
but I don't think the Knicks would have had a
better chance to beat the Thunder.
Speaker 7 (04:28):
I mean, the best team won that series in Indiana
versus New York.
Speaker 8 (04:35):
That Knicks defense, that transition defense, it was getting just
obliterated by Tiers Haliburt and Pascal Siakam was not going
to stand up very well against the Thunder. You know,
sloppiest Knicks row with the ball that was going to
be a pretty big problem against the thunder, So maybe
the odds would have been better in the sense of gambling. Yeah,
in this sense of actually having a chance to win
(04:57):
the series, I would say absolutely not.
Speaker 2 (05:00):
Tom Thibodeau was fired because.
Speaker 8 (05:03):
Because he is a polarizing figure internally, there was a
pretty large faction within that front office that wanted to
get him fired a while ago and finally got its way.
You know, if you're gonna fire a coach out for
a conference finals run, if you're going to fire a
(05:24):
coach who has made the playoffs four straight years and
you know, has had the success that the Thibodeau's had
four franchise, it's gone a quarter century without sniffing any
kind of real success, you better get the next hire right.
Speaker 7 (05:36):
It's an off the high bar that you're trying to
clear with your next hire here.
Speaker 8 (05:40):
But you know, TIB's got fired because TIBs tends to
wear people out, and he wore out a certain amount
of people who were able to get their way.
Speaker 2 (05:48):
Do you think they know who they're hiring? I don't.
Speaker 7 (05:53):
I don't.
Speaker 8 (05:53):
I think they certainly have some strong ideas whether their
targets are going to be at Tamable remains to be seen.
But you know, this is the kind of deal, honestly,
where if you're going to fire Tibbs, it would make
sense that you know who the next tire is, you know,
a boom boom type of thing. I certainly don't get
(06:13):
that sense, you know, But of course the Knicks keep
you guess him, because why would you possibly consider having
a press conference after making this kind.
Speaker 7 (06:22):
Of major franchise decision.
Speaker 9 (06:23):
You know, just you know, just just hide in your
little ivory tower and don't speak to the unwashed media masks.
Is this the last thing that you would want to
do when you're going to make a decision to fire
a coach and awake of a conference final drum?
Speaker 2 (06:36):
Yeah, and I'd gotten a win yesterday that yeah, I
didn't know the acrimony inside, but then I was in.
I was enlightened yesterday. And it's wild that you have.
It's almost like he was he was winning his way
into keeping his job. I don't would he have been
(06:56):
fired if they went to the NBA finals?
Speaker 7 (07:00):
Who knows?
Speaker 8 (07:00):
But you know, it's funny that Tips makes an adjustment
during the conference finals to use Delon Wright to use
Landry Shamman to kind of extend the rotation and it works,
and then it's used against him because it was like, see,
you should have been playing these guys the whole season. See,
you're so stubborn, you refuse to do what we were
trying to get you to do. And it was the
right thing all along. So I don't know if he
(07:23):
would have been fired if they'd have made the finals. Obviously,
we'll never know. I just do know that it's not
like this was out of nowhere. There had certainly been
people who were trying to get TIBs out of there
for a while now, going back before the season even started.
Speaker 2 (07:38):
Yeah, and you give him a contract extension last July.
It's almost as if, now, okay, this may sound crazy,
and I was told this yesterday. What if Leon Rose,
who was Tibbs's former agent who's now his boss, wanted
to take care of Tibbs if in fact he got fired,
(07:58):
that you get him this contract extension, because why else
would you give him a contract extension if there's already
people in the building who do not like him in
his style.
Speaker 7 (08:08):
Yeah, and it is also one of those things where
you know when a coach is going into the last.
Speaker 8 (08:15):
Year of his contract. You either extend him or fire him.
That's just kind of the way it is THEBA.
Speaker 7 (08:18):
You can't have or you can.
Speaker 8 (08:20):
But it's a really bad idea to have a guy
that everybody knows is Elaine Duck as the head coach.
But I see where you're going at. I don't think
it's a terrible conspiracy theory. I'm listen.
Speaker 7 (08:32):
I don't know that this was Leon Rose's decision.
Speaker 8 (08:35):
I know that publicly in the little short statement that
they sent out that he accepted the responsibility for the decision.
I think this was more a dole In decision, and
you know, people working around Leon Rose. I do know
that Leon Rose has held off the angry mob within
the within the Knicks front office before. But again, they
(09:01):
can say what they want a statement, they don't have
to have a press conference, they don't.
Speaker 7 (09:04):
Have to explain their decision.
Speaker 8 (09:06):
I just don't understand how that benefits the Knicks whatsoever,
to just leave people wonder what the hell is going on.
Speaker 2 (09:15):
Tim mcmahony, ESPN NBA reporter, He'll be there tonight for
a Sports Center. Also the book The Wonder Boy, Luka
Doncic and the Curse of Greatness. The commissioner said yesterday
on Fox Sports that he is entertaining the world versus
the All Stars from the United States. I'm wondering, you know,
(09:35):
we saw how important the Olympics were to Joker, and you,
of course wrote the book on Luca playing for the
rest of the world as opposed to playing for your
country in the Olympics. I'm curious about the pride you
think that the team World would have against the United States.
Speaker 7 (09:55):
Yeah, and this is certainly a way that there trying
to make the All Star Game more competitive. I can
see that, But look at the All Star rosters from
last year.
Speaker 8 (10:06):
Is it going to be eighteen on six or you're
just gonna say, hey, sorry Americans, but there's going to
be twelve international All Stars regardless of qualifications.
Speaker 7 (10:17):
You get twelve starts for the Americans, twelve for the World.
And look, obviously the top end talent.
Speaker 8 (10:22):
You know, you know how many straight MVPs have been
won by international players. There's no question that there are
you know, a handful of international superstars. But I think
this idea is half baked. If it's got to be
even international versus World, regardless of who actually earns a trip.
Speaker 7 (10:39):
To the All Star Game.
Speaker 2 (10:42):
Well, it might be half baked, but I know that
the current format isn't baked at all. It doesn't even
get in the oven, like, well, I'm heating up the
I'm preheating here for something.
Speaker 7 (10:52):
Yeah, and then you get into the discussion of Okay,
is the All.
Speaker 8 (10:57):
Star Game to honor the best players in the league
that season or is it an an entertainment showcase? You know,
it's funny. I feel like the NBA All Star Game
is the only one that people really whine and cry
about the competitive mate, Like what, I don't even know
what they're doing in the Pro Bowl now? Is it
like flag football or something like that. Seriously, I don't know,
(11:18):
but nobody cares, right this idea that is some kind
of a crisis because you know, guys aren't diving on
the floor for loose balls during the All Star Game.
I don't really understand it. Then again, I'm a guy
who I cash in my airline miles and Hotel points
to take my wife on vacation every All Star weekends.
Speaker 10 (11:35):
What do I care?
Speaker 2 (11:35):
Okay, but do you think that if Kobe was playing,
or Mike was playing, or Larry Magic playing today. What
the All Star Game look the way the All Star
Game looks.
Speaker 7 (11:46):
I mean, it's a fair it's a fair point. I
just think it's gets way too much like attention and concern,
like there's bigger problems in the NBA than Hey, the
Altar game is just guys like dunking a ball and
jacking up forty footers like they're to me forward about
the competitive nature of the NBA. Let's start with the
(12:08):
fact that even though you've.
Speaker 8 (12:09):
Flattened the lottery odds and it blew up and some teams' faces,
that you've still got tank a Palooza down the stretch
of a regular season. I'm much more worried about the
competitive nature of March and early April basketball than I am.
Speaker 7 (12:24):
Some weekend in a random city in February.
Speaker 2 (12:27):
I was watching you guys on the podcast Yesterday and
the Hoop Collective, and you guys were talking about Utah
where Danny Aingel's son is now going to run the
Utah Jazz. And you know, he spent whatever fourteen years
with the Celtics, but he was asked about basically, are
you going to tank you know this upcoming season? He said, no,
not this season, as if it probably happened last season
(12:51):
and it just didn't work out. So he's kind of admitting,
I think they tanked last year, but we're not going
to tank this year.
Speaker 8 (12:58):
Well, I mean, I think it's gonna be hot Texas
this summer. I'm gonna go ahead and admit that. Yeah,
some things are just playing as day. They absolutely tanked
last year. And what Austin Names said, I don't have
the exact quote in front of me, but basically what
he said is we're not going to be manipulating minutes
to lose games this year. They're not going to be
inventing injuries. I mean, they're injured report. If you opened
(13:20):
it up on your phone, you had to scroll down
a few screens on a regular basis, you know, like
it was ridiculous, and they were fine for tanking, like
they blatantly tanked, got the worst record league and ended
up in the most likely scenario, which was the fifth
overall pick, which was both the worst case to and
most likely scenario, and then you get into I know,
(13:41):
within that franchise there's discussions about, hey, the way we
approached this season, like tanking, you know, you hear the
euphemism for player development, but what they did, it's done
the growth of young players on the roster.
Speaker 7 (13:55):
These guys need to be put in situations where they're
playing to win the game.
Speaker 8 (14:00):
If you're trying to develops, so you're just punning on
the growth of like they had like seven guys under
twenty three years old, and then then you know, your
odds aren't that much better for the number one pick.
Speaker 7 (14:10):
Then if you finish six or seventh or with the
sixth or seventh worst record.
Speaker 8 (14:14):
Now the wigger room that he left is they're not
gonna do that, but let's see what their transactions look like.
You know, they just very well could have a roster
next year going into it where look, they're gonna play
as hard as they can, they're gonna try to win games,
and they're gonna end up, you know, twenty two and
sixty or whatever be pretty close to the same situation that.
My guess is it probably ends up looking something like that.
Speaker 2 (14:36):
More likely the series goes four games or seven games.
Speaker 7 (14:43):
I mean, I think that the data would tell you
four games.
Speaker 8 (14:49):
I'm just going to say, I don't think a Rick
Carlile team's getting swept and you know, Rick Carlisle has
out coached a legendary coach in the finals before a
legendary young coach, right, a guy who became a legend,
Eric Spolster's uh. You know that that Miami Super Team's
first finals, that the Dallas Mantis did not have the
(15:11):
better team, they were playing better at the time. But
Rick Carlisle cooked up some magic during that series, you know,
and his coaching staff. But I'm just saying, I know
that Mark Dagnall expects to have his hands full with
the coaching matchup, and I think that is the PACER's
best chance to make this a real series.
Speaker 4 (15:28):
Man.
Speaker 8 (15:29):
I say out of a lot with a ton of
respect for Dagnall, who's been a Coach of the Year,
who's done an unbelievable job in Oklahoma City. But Rick
Carlisle is as good as it gets in terms of.
Speaker 7 (15:38):
Game to game, you know, even even half to half
in game adjustments during the playoff series.
Speaker 2 (15:44):
How many Air Jordans did you pack?
Speaker 7 (15:47):
Let's see, I think.
Speaker 8 (15:49):
There are eight Jordans, some Air Force ones, a pair
of Blazers, and some good old trustee Stan Smiths just
for the every day kick run shees also have some
Sabrina Wednesday, and you'll appreciate this. We've got a uh,
we've got to pick up run here in Okay see
a Friday night pick up run, and I'm told there
will be another one in Indy. So I packed my
(16:09):
Sabrina ones.
Speaker 7 (16:10):
You know, I can't wear current NBA signature shoes, but
I could certainly support the w n B A.
Speaker 2 (16:15):
We didn't play against each other, did I don't think
you were covering the NBA when the when the Bulls
in the nineties.
Speaker 8 (16:24):
No, I was playing high school basketball back then.
Speaker 2 (16:26):
Oh, because we used to play pick up and uh
with the media. So I remember Jackie McMullen was on
my team, and remember playing against Rick Buker and uh.
Speaker 8 (16:38):
So we pick up run. I packed also packed some
icy hots.
Speaker 2 (16:42):
So who is the best media basketball player?
Speaker 7 (16:47):
You're talking to him? No, I'm just kidding.
Speaker 2 (16:49):
There's Are you a joker?
Speaker 6 (16:52):
Are you?
Speaker 7 (16:54):
It's a wide spectrum.
Speaker 8 (16:56):
There's the pick and watch is certainly a big part
of Okay.
Speaker 2 (17:00):
All right? Where would Steven A. Smith be picked if
there was a media pickup game? I don't know.
Speaker 8 (17:08):
He's welcome to show up on Friday night and find
out though, you know, I've never I've seen the man
take some jumpers in in dress shirts, but I've never
seen him play.
Speaker 2 (17:17):
He might not get picked.
Speaker 7 (17:19):
Oh yeah, he get picked. You think it he get picked. Yeah,
I'll say you have the best.
Speaker 8 (17:25):
The best media guy, it's Chris Haynes is in that conversation.
He played colleball.
Speaker 7 (17:30):
But the thing about Haynes is his version of a
pass is a miss jump guy.
Speaker 8 (17:35):
I've got the feeling that Steven A would be similar
in that reg hard yeah.
Speaker 2 (17:39):
Uh, and Peter Vessy's too old to play anymore.
Speaker 8 (17:45):
We've got some dudes though. I'll give a shout out.
There's a dude, Daniel Bell, who's a local radio guy
here in Okay See about six two to twenty, a
decade and a half younger than me. It's he's been
my match up during the conference finals. This dude hit
like because Dirk one from the mid range in my row. Listen,
I am not like I've always said, the most joke
(18:07):
rating thing about sports is sportsmanship. And if you watch
me play old man pick up with my two inch vertical,
you can it's reflected in my performance.
Speaker 7 (18:16):
In in my in my uh, you know, disposition.
Speaker 2 (18:19):
Can Brian wind Horse play.
Speaker 8 (18:22):
Wind Horse? I think he's gonna have a movie night
on Friday night at Tim's claims he is going to
get out there, But you know he's one of those guys.
When a dude shows up and running shoes for the
pickup run, you know he's.
Speaker 7 (18:35):
Got no game.
Speaker 2 (18:35):
Yeah, thank you, Tim, have fun tonight, Appreciate it. That's
Tim McMahon ESPN, NBA reporter, Band McMahon podcast on the
Hoop Collective and the author of The Wonder Boy, Luka
Doncic and The Cursive Greatness. We'll take a break, We'll
get the phone calls. I'll uh, I'll retell the Howard

Speaker 2 (20:09):
We had a caller said that he was listening to
a I guess a replay of a Howard Stern show
and it was back in two thousand, two thousand and three,
and it was when I won an Fmmy from the
Howard Stern Show. Because captain Jenks, who is a prank
(20:30):
phone call expert. This is after the Chicago Cubs, Steve Bartman,
the foul ball, the whole thing, and then everybody's trying
to track down Steve Bartman. Do an interview. I'm doing
the six o'clock Sports Center. Do I have to play this, PAULI?
Speaker 3 (20:46):
Yes, Well, I think the big part of it is that,
like you said, everyone was trying to get a hold
of this guy. Man, You're in the middle of a
live show. You didn't have time to tape it or
vet it out, and a call comes into ESPN a
person pretending to be Steve Bartman, and the person was
so prepared that they knew where Barton went to college
in high school. So as the producers tried to vet it,
(21:07):
as they say, he answered all the right questions and
got through to you on Sports Center.
Speaker 2 (21:12):
Actually, I don't think they vetted him with his college.
It was something yeah, because that was the that was
the only thing I thought of. So I'm we just
started Sports Center and I probably tend to twelve minutes
in and my producer says, Hey, Bartman called in, We're
(21:33):
going to put him on the air. Let's go to
commercial break, and I'm thinking, okay, so during the commercial break,
I'm actually talking to who I think is Steve Bartman.
To this day, the only thing that I I didn't
know Bartman obviously, and I would have asked him about
where he went to college. I think he went to
Notre Dame, and that would That was the only thing
(21:55):
that I thought of, is how do I know this
is Steve Bartman. There was no zoom call back then,
and that was To this day, it still bothers me.
I mean, we have three minutes in between, uh, segment
one and segment two, and oh my gosh, we got
this exclusive Steve Bartman called in. I'm smelling sports, Emmy,
(22:16):
and uh it sounded like this.
Speaker 4 (22:18):
We're throwing things at me, bottles, glass, plastic, and you know,
and you know, it was very scary because I could
have got hurt, you know, hit with something and seriously injured.
Speaker 2 (22:28):
Have you received death threats?
Speaker 4 (22:30):
Yes, I have received at least five death threats calling
my parents' house. And and you know, people get you know,
especially from the news. They've been calling and and I
and I'm pretty much right now, you know, hiding out
right now.
Speaker 2 (22:42):
Can you stay in the Chicago area.
Speaker 4 (22:45):
Do you like Howard Stearn's but cheese?
Speaker 2 (22:49):
Hello, we've been had. That was not Steve Bartman. We'll
be back any who. Oh, and I'm a fan of
Howard Stern show. I should have known. I should have
(23:15):
you know, once again, I mean hindsight, but hearing his voice,
he doesn't sound like somebody in distress. He sounds like
somebody trying to sound like he's in distress. If I
listen to it back right now, I just hear him
and he's kind of telling me what I want to hear,
and then all of a sudden he loads up and
then he gets me. And it was the biggest get
(23:39):
in sports. I mean, we had Bartman, and I thought
and we had been trying to get Barton and everybody
had been and all of a sudden, Howard Stern's but cheese.
I was embarrassed, But you know, my producer felt than
(24:00):
I did. And I don't know if he got I mean,
we were always a two source network. I mean back
then when they used to care about that stuff, and
you know, we didn't have two sources on it. We
just thought we had Bartman calling in. Well, of course
it's Bartman. We're Sports Center. Of course he's calling in.
(24:22):
And then I won an fmmy by Howard and Robin,
and I joined them and accepted my fmy proudly accepted.
And I had been listening to Howard since nineteen eighty
six and I was well versed in I just never
thought that Captain Jenks but we had Captain Jenks on
(24:42):
after that on the radio show, and I said, hey,
just promise me that you'll never prank me again. And
he promised that he would never prank me again. But
he got me, got me good. And I remember I
went to Gary Delabate Baba Booie invited me on. I
(25:05):
had a day off or I was off for a week,
and he said, why don't you come in to the show.
I said, all right, I'll go into New York and
I went to the Howard Stern show. Well, Gary is
trying to tell Howard who I am because Howard doesn't
really know sports. And he goes, Howard, this is Dan Patrick.
He's the Dan rather of sports. And I don't know
(25:27):
if Howard cared, but he was like, oh okay. And
I think that was when they did Gary Roast maybe,
and I went in for that and then I was
on the wrap up show with Gary and John Hine
hit him with the hint and I've done some things
with the show periodically. Howard has reached out a couple
(25:48):
of times to do a couple of things for the show.
But yeah, they got me. And then when Howard's sixtieth
birthday party, I was invited and I introduced Dave Grohl
and I didn't want to do it because I don't
want to be part of the show that I like.
And then everybody's like, you got to do Howard, And
I mean, I'm glad I did, but still I was
(26:11):
not in my world. It wasn't a hey, there's this
sportscaster Dan Patrick. You know, I'm backstage with Dave Grohl
and Slash. No sports guys, nobody's Dave Grohl goes, uh,
so I hear you're introducing me. I go yeah. He goes, yeah,
I don't know anything about sports. My daughter's play lacrosse.
That's about all I know. And then he said, hey,
(26:32):
when you introduced me, just say that. I grew up
listening to Howard on a Ham radio and I thought okay,
and I walk out and I see Howard and Robin
and I go over and acknowledge them, and then somebody
from the back goes, who are you? And totally threw
me off my game because I wanted to say something,
(26:55):
you know, in Howard's world, you could you know, say
something back to them, but I didn't want to take
away from the birthday party. And then I introduced Dave Grohl.
I got to meet John Fogerty, the legendary leader of
Creeden's Clearwater Revival, which found out that he listens to
the show every morning on his morning walk, and that
was wonderful. And uh, I get there and all of
(27:17):
a sudden, Gary dellabaatee Baba Buy goes, hey, uh, somebody
wants to meet you, and I go, oh, okay. So
all of a sudden, I'm led through this labyrinth and
it's like all these different halls in you know, trying
to find John. All of a sudden, you know, I
(27:37):
told John Fogerty of Creedence, I go, John Fogerty does
not want to meet me. Knock on the door and
his wife answers, and I said, uh, I think John
wants to meet me, And his wife goes, hold on,
who are you? Dan Patrick Dan Patrick's here opens the door.
You're like, come on in, I listen every morning. I'm like,
(27:58):
I'll be damn John Fogerty. Yeah, yes, Marvin.
Speaker 12 (28:02):
Is that the one seed of celebrity shocked you that
they knew who you were?
Speaker 2 (28:06):
No, because there's presidents, you know. I mean, I'm sure
that Beyonce knows who I am.
Speaker 12 (28:14):
Uh yes, Wait, you're shocked that president's I think, oh no,
and I was.
Speaker 2 (28:18):
I'm saying that the presidents. Okay, who would surprise me?
Who knows me? I don't know. Maybe Beyonce.
Speaker 12 (28:30):
I'm saying that you've met, like oh Dan, Okay, No,
it wasn't that.
Speaker 2 (28:35):
But jay Z was with her, and so I you know,
by proxy, I'm going to say that maybe she because
I was hosting these sports Illustrated Sportsmen of the Year
and then they were the last to arrive and they
show up in the front two seats and I go, oh, hey,
jay I hi b I think I did say, hibe,
(28:57):
I want to be part of the Beehive.
Speaker 3 (29:00):
I think years ago, I hope I remember this right.
You were at the Olympics and what's his name, Nile
Horan from One Direction? Oh yeah, he walked up to
you and he's British, right, Yeah, you wouldn't think he
might know you.
Speaker 2 (29:11):
He called me the sports guy. So here's one of
the kids at the time. He's eighteen in one direction
and he's a So I'm with two of my daughters
and my wife and I just got through anchoring the
Olympics for NBC and we went over to the river
and we were going to have dinner and all of
a sudden, Nile comes up and he's got a mug
(29:33):
of beer and he's in his cups and he's spilling.
He's talking to me and gesturing with his hands, but
he's spilling beer all over the place. And then he said,
you know you're the sports guy. I said, yeah, I'm
a sports guy, and he wanted to They start asking
me questions and it could not he We had to
walk away from him, like he didn't get the hint
(29:54):
that we were going to go have dinner. And then
we thought he was going to come over and sit
down and have dinner with us, and then he said, uh,
I'm gonna go I'm you're gonna hear about this guy.
His name's ed Shearon.
Speaker 13 (30:06):
I'm going to his flat we're gonna play music, ed
and Shearon is going to be huge. You wait, and
I always remember, like, who's ed Shearon? And then all
of a sudden, Ed Sheeron became Ed Shearon. But I
was surprised at that.
Speaker 2 (30:23):
Even when I met Harry from one direction, he did
not know me, but he was very nice when he
took a picture. But Harry styles he was coming out
of a bathroom. I was going in and then we
froze and then I said, I got to get a
picture with you. Oh no, yes I did in or
outside the bathroom. Yes, outside the bathroom, I know. And
(30:47):
I like, if I saw him from Afar, I wouldn't
have walked over to him to get it. But it
was like open the door, open the door. I got
to get a picture. And he could not have been nicer.
He was like, I said, I got three daughters. I said,
this is a big deal. And he said, oh, hey,
all right, and I said, uh and uh. I knew
(31:09):
that he was with somebody that I knew from the
record label, but I didn't want to bother and I
was like I don't want to be hey, you know,
blah blah, buh you know. But he was very nice,
very pleasant, and took the picture and then I sent
it to my daughters. My one daughter said, where is he?
And I go, he I don't know, Go find him, Dad,
(31:30):
I go, no, no, I'm going to leave him alone.
It was in Miami at the super Bowl. Okay, now
there's story time there anything else I need to add to.
I was hoping Adele might know who I was. You know,
that'd be nice. I love Adele, Yes, Martin.
Speaker 12 (31:47):
If she was American, maybe, oh yeah she would. But wait, yeah,
he's with Rich Paul now, so biproxy.
Speaker 2 (31:54):
She might know which guy? And maybe, like Jennifer Anderston
didn't know me, I was the sports guy. Katie Holmes
might have known who I was. She was just playing cute.
Speaker 8 (32:07):
She who you were?
Speaker 2 (32:08):
But she was like, you know, was she with Tom
at the time? She was with him one day, right
and then Tom left. Now, when Tom was on set
and she was in a movie with me, in a
scene with me, she was very quiet, and their daughter
Surrey was there. And you know, Sandler thinks everybody knows everybody.
(32:32):
Hey Cruise, you know Danny and then Tom. But Tom
Cruise knew who I was. And then the next day
Katie brings in cookies. She had made cookies, and she
could not have been Now I don't want to say flirting,
don't want to say I don't, but damn it was close.
(32:55):
And I was like, She said, hey, so I'm in
a scene with her, a scene that got cut from
the movie. But she said, hey, I made some cookies.
Would you like one? I go sure, And so we
just were chatting it up and Tom's not there. I'm thinking, Okay,
we're in a scene. This is how it happens on
(33:17):
movie sets. Yeah, that's not how it happened on that
movie set. But she was very, very sweet. And then
I went to see her. She was in a play,
and I ask for I went backstage see Jim Parsons. So,
Jim Parsons in a play and Katie Holmes is in
(33:40):
the play. And I see Jim backstage and I said, hey,
could you see if Katie will come out? You go sure?
Does she know who you are? I said yeah. She
comes out, walks over, gives me a big hug, and
I'm going in front of my wife. And then I
said Katie is my wife and she goes, oh, hi,
(34:01):
she said disappointedly.
Speaker 12 (34:02):
Imperson oh nice to me.
Speaker 2 (34:06):
Oh, I was gonna make you more cookies. Oh she's here, Yeah, okay,
there it is, yes.
Speaker 14 (34:17):
Marm Sorry, one more thing going back to now sing
that that was your wife. Have you ever had a
woman flirt with you or talk to you and they
look down at your hand and their facial expression changes.
Speaker 2 (34:29):
You know, we're up against the commercial break, smart move, Yeah,
we're up against back after this. Yeah, yeah, yeah, we'll
take a break. We're back after this.
Speaker 1 (34:39):

Patrick Show weekdays at nine am Eastern six am Pacific

Jack and Phoenix, Hi, Jack, w on your mind today?
Speaker 6 (35:01):
Hey?
Speaker 4 (35:02):
Dan?
Speaker 6 (35:02):
How are you doing? Guys?
Speaker 2 (35:03):
Great? What's on your mind?
Speaker 6 (35:05):
Okay?
Speaker 10 (35:05):
So I got two things. So my sister's sixtieth birthday today,
and I'm stuck here in Phoenix and they're all at
LBI back East, and the boys could give her a
shout out, that would be fantastic.
Speaker 2 (35:16):
And her name is Cindy. Cindy you guys are the.
Speaker 10 (35:28):
Absolute best love y'all. And the other is I own
a small wine shop out here. When I was wondering
if I sent you guys a bottle of sea smoke,
which you sign it, so I could bring it back
to my shop and proudly display it.
Speaker 2 (35:40):
Wait, what do I get out of it? Jack?
Speaker 10 (35:42):
There will be two bottles of sea smoke?
Speaker 6 (35:44):
There you go.
Speaker 2 (35:45):
You got it, Jack, You got a lead with two
and send me one back?
Speaker 12 (35:50):
All right?
Speaker 2 (35:51):
If you do self addressed, you know, packaging postage, then
then I'll do that.
Speaker 10 (35:57):
And you'll be the only non Winemaker bottle signed displayed
in my shop.
Speaker 6 (36:01):
I'll be super proud of that.
Speaker 2 (36:02):
All right, Thank you, Jack. Yeah, I enjoy sea smoke
Pino noir. By the way, the sea smoke is the fog. Fog,
got it, Honor. That's the that's the smoke. It looks
like smoke, but it's fog. I learned that. Let me
see Alan in Charleston. Alan, what do you have for me?
Speaker 6 (36:21):
Oh? Damn? How are you?
Speaker 2 (36:22):
Great?
Speaker 6 (36:23):
Great?
Speaker 7 (36:24):
Good?
Speaker 6 (36:25):
Before I asked my quick question here, I just like
to thank Wendy's brother for getting back to me as
soon as he did the question that I have for
you is one that you ask your guests every once
in a while. I'm going to assume that if I've
walked in your house, I would not know what you
do for a living, because I don't think your family
would allow that. But if I went down to your
(36:46):
smoking drinking room, would I know what you do for
a living?
Speaker 2 (36:50):
Yes? Yes, that's the one room that is where I
have cigars. That's the one room that is mine. And
got a lot of things down there, a lot of
fun things down there. But yeah, it's a it's a
whole lot of me down there. Bob in Seattle, Hi, Bob,
what's on your mind today?
Speaker 6 (37:12):
Maybe as a lifelong Supersonic fan, I just have to
say what the whole city is thinking.
Speaker 8 (37:22):
Go go.
Speaker 2 (37:27):
Okay, all right, Hey, I'd still love to have basketball
in Seattle. Maybe they maybe they come back. But it
feels like if you have a team in Vegas, then
hopefully you have a team in Seattle. But it feels
like that that we're definitely going to have a team
(37:48):
in Vegas. That feels like and I don't know if
that's where the If I'm the commissioner, do I talk
to Lebron and Steph Curry and say, I want you
two guys to be involved in this franchise. I wonder
if if he would do that. Well, he'll join us
next Wednesday. The commissioner, Steven California. Hi, Steve, what's on
(38:13):
your mind today? Guys? Thanks for taking my call a
long time.
Speaker 15 (38:17):
Second time, you guys were talking about the Oilers jerseys
earlier in the show, and I just want to mention
that at one point in the I think it was
a mid nineties, for about fifteen years, they switched the jersey.
They changed the color to like a dark navy blue,
they removed some.
Speaker 2 (38:32):
Of the orange. They actually had like a muted orange.
Speaker 15 (38:34):
They were awful, and so luckily about ten years ago
they reverted back full.
Speaker 2 (38:38):
Time to what you see now.
Speaker 6 (38:39):
So I think we're all happy for that second thing.
Speaker 15 (38:43):
I have a quick Connor McDavid fun fact, and last
year we know that he won the Cosmife for a
playoff MVP and a losing.
Speaker 2 (38:49):
Out for a very very rare for any sport. That's
actually the.
Speaker 15 (38:53):
Second time that's happened to him because last year in juniors,
before he got drafted by the Oilers, he was playing
for my hometown Area Otters made the finals in twenty fifteen.
He lost the final five games, but was voted playoff
MVP that time as well.
Speaker 2 (39:09):
That's awesome, thank you, Steve. Let's play the NBA Finals game.
Speaker 3 (39:15):
It's a quick game dance, okay, because the game starts tonight.
We can't pick the series tomorrow. You got how many games?
Speaker 8 (39:22):
Who wins?
Speaker 2 (39:23):
Who's the MVP? All right? Todd thunder and six SGA
all right, going out on a limb uh Seaton thunder
and five I'll say, SGA all right, Marvin thunder.
Speaker 3 (39:42):
And five SGA all right, Paul thunder and seven SGA
Pacers in six whoa Tyrese Halibert and mvping gots the yeah?
Speaker 2 (39:54):
Rick Carlisle finishing second. This day in sports history, Paul.
Speaker 3 (40:00):
Nineteen sixty seven, the NHL awarded six new franchises in
Minnesota North Stars, which became the Dallas Stars. Still upset
about that? The Oakland Seals, how about that, that's a
fun name. The LA Kings, the Pittsburgh Penguins, the Philadelphia Flyers,
and the Saint Louis Blues. Nineteen sixty seven.
Speaker 2 (40:16):
Nineteen sixty one, the ABA adopts the three point shot
nineteen sixty one also had the red, White, and Blue ball,
also in the state. Nineteen seventy seven, the Blazers beat
the seventy six Ers in Game six to win the
NBA Championship. And I had a roommate who was from
(40:41):
Philadelphia and the Blazers lost the first two games. And
I was a huge Waltons fan. In fact, my innermural
team was called the Walton Gang. And he was given
me grief, and all of a sudden, Blazers came back
and won four in a row. I don't want to
say anything about Joe Wits, but yeah, he got his comeupps.
Hey Joe, how about that?
Speaker 6 (41:02):
All right?
Speaker 4 (41:03):
Uh?
Speaker 6 (41:03):
Todd?
Speaker 2 (41:03):
Would you learn.
Speaker 8 (41:04):
Today you've got the Pacers taking down the thunder and
six with Halliburton as your MVP.
Speaker 16 (41:08):
Wow, Satan, the Howard Stern thing still bothers you. Yes
it does, Marvin, You're getting a gong. Yeah, I just
talked to the big German. We are ordering a gong
for the show. Well, it's for Fritzie. Uh PAULI heat it?
Speaker 12 (41:21):
Joe Witz?
Speaker 2 (41:22):
Uh Todd Wit? Did I learn?
Speaker 8 (41:23):
Trevor and Santa Monica's from Calgary believes all of Canada
is rooting for the Oilers to win the Cup.
Speaker 2 (41:27):
