Should he have even played in the second half, knowing
that I want him to be ready to go Thursday night,
even if he wasn't healthy enough to go last night,
(00:26):
certainly in the second half of that game. Oilers at
the Panthers Game six. The Cup is in the building
eight seven to seven three. DP Show email address Dpadanpatrick

(00:48):
H you don't want to be left behind for this
action packed blockbuster movie event, Jurassic World Rebirth. It roars
into theatres July second. I didn't see any of the
other Jurassic Park movies, really I did not. They were
they were clever. I like Jeff Goldbloom, and I know
(01:10):
that he was in a few of them and I
saw clips, but I never saw any of the movies
all the way through. But uh, would you guys recommend
Jurassic Park?
Speaker 3 (01:21):
Paul?
Speaker 4 (01:21):
Yeah, it was great at the time because before CGI
you did a really good job at the dinosaurs and
the the bad guys as they call.
Speaker 2 (01:30):
Okay, very cool, all right, But I haven't seen Jurassic
Park or I don't know how many of those movies
they are there are, but uh can I can I
watch this one without watching the other ones?
Speaker 4 (01:45):
If you like to see people running from dinosaurs, you're
pretty pretty well set.
Speaker 2 (01:49):
Okay. That's the common thing throughout of it.
Speaker 4 (01:52):
Like let's get out of here. But they're searching for them,
and it's like Twister. You know, they're they're going towards
the tornado and then let's run from.
Speaker 2 (01:58):
The Tony Alay eight seven to seven to three DP
show operator Tyler sitting by. He'll take your phone call.
Spirited first hour as a Fritzy. As soon as I
walked in today, he wanted to talk about the patter
who was hit by a pitch in the College World
Series and spoiled a perfect game for Gauge Wood of
(02:18):
Arkansas and Todd is going to die on that hill.
He still believes that the hitter was soft and should
not have kind of purposely let that pitch hit.
Speaker 5 (02:29):
I was bummed for gage would the way that that ended?
Speaker 2 (02:31):
Okay? And the player who got hit is named Dom Decker.
And we had somebody who called in to say, could
Fritzie come up with a limerick for the play that
apparently has ruined his day so far?
Speaker 6 (02:45):
Dom Decker a name. I must say that at bat
quite the bush league play. How can one not think
it's lame the way you ruined a perfect game?
Speaker 3 (02:53):
Dude?
Speaker 5 (02:53):
Just get out of the way.
Speaker 2 (02:54):
Alright, short notice, there's the limerick for Todd. Poll question
for hour two seat and is going to be what
well for hour two we might put up what Dylan
just had there in the look in. He had a.
Speaker 7 (03:07):
A meme that's going around on social media. If you
had a ten hour flight, who would you rather sit
next to? He threw the five of us plus himself
in there. A ten hour flight, Yeah, who do you
want to sit next to? I barely survived a two
hour flight with Todd.
Speaker 2 (03:23):
Atlanta is a quick one from here. That's that's not
a tough flight. And yes it is true that the
flight attendant did ask me if I wanted anything to
drink since I was sitting next to Todd, and I
said poison and uh. By the end of the flight,
she did tell she was scolding Todd that he was
talking too much.
Speaker 5 (03:43):
She said, I should consider another airline in the future travel.
Speaker 2 (03:46):
No, she said, you should consider not talking so much.
And Todd doesn't understand. You know, he didn't understand that
I had headphones in. Therefore he spoke louder.
Speaker 5 (03:59):
So I would, well, that's what you do in that situation. No,
just ignoring you. No, but you don't want to talk
to me.
Speaker 2 (04:04):
I had headphones in to not hear you.
Speaker 5 (04:07):
We're watching like the next place.
Speaker 2 (04:08):
No, no, no, you were You're.
Speaker 5 (04:10):
Watching one of the Matt Damon boy.
Speaker 2 (04:11):
I was watching a born born identity dad mixed Bite
twenty three. Look at this guy, he's got a movie on.
And then he kept, oh my god, like hitting my
arm or my leg. And then I'm like, I took
out the headphone. I said, Todd, stuff.
Speaker 5 (04:27):
You've seen this movie. They're on an eighteen four run
the next watched this playoff game and then.
Speaker 2 (04:30):
I smacked him and I hit him really hard, I said,
I'm not joking, Okay, Yeah, see, yeah.
Speaker 7 (04:38):
Dan, it was a chance for you to bond with
us us. Yes, because Marvin and I were sitting in
the row right next to YouTube, so we had like
the four seats right in a row.
Speaker 2 (04:47):
Yeah.
Speaker 7 (04:47):
We had the hockey game on one TV, we had
the next game on another TV, and you chose to
shut yourself off to watch half of another Born movie
for the sixteenth time. Yes, it was a chance to
you know, a little bonding amongst the group.
Speaker 2 (05:01):
I spend more time with you guys than I do
my family. I am so over bonded with you guys.
I'm a I'm a bail bondsman.
Speaker 7 (05:12):
You're creating great memories. We you know, could have you
could have taught us something about the game.
Speaker 2 (05:17):
Maybe see what they're doing.
Speaker 7 (05:18):
Here is the way he comes off that screen.
Speaker 2 (05:21):
He could have been a teaching moment. It was. Yes,
mar chose to hold.
Speaker 8 (05:26):
On DP, but a lot of that that's my choice.
Speaker 9 (05:30):
But you not being at home every time I'm here.
You're here.
Speaker 8 (05:37):
Like I'm over here shooting basketo with my son on
like a Sunday afternoon. Hey, dp's here. I know, Lorenzo
I know he's here. Isn't a Father's Day, I said,
I know, he's never at his house, So you spent
I'm sorry, Marvin, you spent Father's Day here shooting around
with your son.
Speaker 2 (05:51):
Yeah he has to Yeah, yeah, lovely, My dad's dead.
I didn't have see so I was going to be
a father figure to you and your son.
Speaker 8 (06:02):
You've done way more for me than your question.
Speaker 7 (06:07):
Worse situation dead dad, No dad, let's get some early
results on that one.
Speaker 6 (06:13):
Yes, Todd, do you think Bobble has come to life
over the weekend and move around where you have to?
Speaker 5 (06:17):
Kind of?
Speaker 2 (06:17):
No?
Speaker 5 (06:18):
Okay, Sunday, make sure they're where you want to come,
all right.
Speaker 2 (06:20):
I have a poster up right above my door here,
that Dennis Rodman NBA Finals poster that's framed. It fell
down over the weekend. I was here and I put
it to the side, and I said to Tyler, we
have to put that back up yesterday, which he did.
I take inventory.
Speaker 10 (06:39):
I do work.
Speaker 2 (06:40):
Sometimes I'm just here just thinking about all the great memories.
Speaker 9 (06:44):
That we've created, watching Rounders.
Speaker 2 (06:46):
And watching I did watch Rounders, Manye. I hate that scene,
but as soon as it came on, I took a
screen grab of it, send it to the dan Nets.
Speaker 7 (07:00):
Is that did you set up like a little clubhouse
for yourself in one of the other rooms back there?
Speaker 2 (07:03):
No, I was just here in my office. Yeah, And
all of a sudden there there was that scene with
Matthew Matt Damon god oreoles. Oh, I know, like nobody
(07:25):
can tell him, like, you know what, that's a tell.
Maybe we that's a tell this experienced poker player every
time you know, he's bluffing or he's got his cards,
he's he breaks the oreo, eats the icing, and then
all of a sudden it yet dawns on Matt Damon.
(07:48):
You know, I'm gonna lay this down.
Speaker 7 (07:54):
At any point in that the shooting of that, when
John Malkovitch showed up and this is my character, this
is the voice, somebody said, oh really, John, so you're
going interesting interesting choice for you? Do you have anything
else or you can't tell John Malkovich like so that
kind of sucks.
Speaker 2 (08:12):
Yeah, but you had Nicholas Cage and Peggy Sue got married,
and he showed up with an accent, and Kathleen Turner
was opposite and hated the accent, and it was like,
you're gonna ruin the movie, but he stayed with this
accent and he ruined the movie. But yeah, I mean
this is this is John Malkovich, this is one of
(08:32):
the great actors of our time. We're gonna get John
Malkovich to be in our movie. You get that knock
on the door on the trailer.
Speaker 7 (08:42):
Hey, John, can I pop in for a second.
Speaker 2 (08:44):
Hey? You know the accent? You know you're brilliant. You
know you're brilliant.
Speaker 7 (08:49):
We love all your choices, just wondering if.
Speaker 2 (08:52):
The accent, Yeah, do you actually have an It's great,
it's great, we love it, everybody loves it. Do you
have a Russian accent you could use in say the
one that you're trying to convey.
Speaker 3 (09:02):
Yes.
Speaker 4 (09:03):
There's an interview with Matt Damon a couple of years
ago and he's asked directly about it, and like Seton said,
he was watching the first scenes with John Malkovich and
they all looked at each other. But it was one
of those things where nobody we never discussed anyone going
up and saying something, but no one wanted to be
the guy who did it, and everyone just stayed there
(09:23):
and let it happen. The other thing I read ed Norton,
the actor. He was asked about it. His agents begged
him not to do the movie because it was not
a starring role. They didn't offer him the Matt Damon role.
They offered him the sidekick roll. His agents begged him
not to do it. He was an avid poker player
and really into it, and he said, I'm doing it
and all the scenes where he's shuffling, it's not a
stunt double, it's.
Speaker 2 (09:44):
Actually okay, back to you to his man, yay, God,
it's fascinating John about the Everything's going great, Everything is great,
It's perfect.
Speaker 9 (09:59):
It's perfect.
Speaker 2 (10:01):
What if you were less Russian? Any other options? AnyWho? Okay,
some of the headlines there, I mentioned this stat that
Shay Gilgis, Alexander and Jalen Williams. They combine to score
or assist on one hundred and three points. Why does
(10:23):
that matter? It's the most by a duo in an
NBA Finals game in the last fifty years. Also, they
have combined for two hundred and ninety one points. So
if you go back to the merger, by the way,
I think today is the anniversary of the ABA NBA merger.
If you want to check on that. When the NBA
absorb four teams, only three duos have scored more points
(10:47):
through the first five games of an NBA finals Michael
Jordan and Scottie Pippenner first, Thenrie and Lebron, Kevin Durant
and Steph Curry, and then you have Shay Gilgis and
Jalen Williams. That's pretty impressive. Company Stata, The Day Stata.
Speaker 11 (11:09):
The Jay We Love Your.
Speaker 4 (11:13):
Stata, The Day Stata, the j Stanta, the j Oldan
Gimmux stat of the Day.
Speaker 2 (11:22):
Alrighty, thank you, Pandora stat of the Day brought to
you by Panini America, the official trading cards of the program.
Good morning, if you're watching on Peacock or you're listening
on our radio affiliates around the country. Brian Scalabrini, former
NBA player, he'll join us. Coming up. We'll dissect what
happened at halftime where I didn't think Tyrese Haliburton was
(11:45):
going to play second half, and I thought it's not.
This isn't the final game of the series. You still
need him. There's a game in Indiana. Shut him down.
You guys are down double digits. TJ McConnell played extremely well,
and you didn't have an answer for Williams and Shay Gilgess.
But I guess Tyre's Halliburton is going to be ready
(12:06):
to go. Here is his head coach, Rick Carlile.
Speaker 12 (12:10):
He's not one hundred percent. It's pretty clear, but I
don't think he's gonna miss the next game. And you know,
we were concerned at halftime, and he insisted on playing,
and I thought, I thought he made a lot of
really good things happen in the second half.
Speaker 2 (12:24):
But he's not.
Speaker 12 (12:26):
He's not one hundred percent, you know, and there's a
lot of guys in the series that aren't.
Speaker 2 (12:31):
I know he's insisting on playing. I'm insisting on you
being healthier for Game six because he was not helping
your team. And Rick Carlisle can say that and dress
it up, and he wasn't you need two wins, Okay,
you need this game Thursday night, and then you need
the game on Sunday night. Let's not try to win
(12:53):
this game at okay. See, let's get healthy, get some momentum,
let's win game six, and then we go back here
for Game seven. Nathan and san Antonio, Hi, Nate, what's
on your mind today? Hey, Nate, Well that's not a
good start. Jimmy in Chicago, Hi, Jimmy.
Speaker 3 (13:15):
DP.
Speaker 2 (13:15):
Hey jim I was actually wondering if you've been to
the Basketball Hall of Fame, and one of your take
on it was if you have an if you would
recommend it for a Dieherd basketball team. Yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yeah,
you enjoyed it. I just you walk in and you're
seeing plaques, there's videos there. They've done a nice job there. Springfield,
(13:38):
Springfield mess. Chris in La, Hi, Chris, what's on your
mind today?
Speaker 13 (13:44):
Good morning, gentlemen. I have to say I support Fritzy
on the getting hit by the pitch and a no hitter.
Always it always bothered me that, you know, in Major
League Baseball hitters that go up there or try to
bun or something and you know it it is because
you don't really see it a lot, and if you're
not doing something you usually do, like swinging the bat,
(14:05):
then you're obviously just trying to get a hit to
break something up and break up another person's special moment.
The only difference though, and this is where I disagree
with Fritzy. It generally applies, but it doesn't apply in
a low run game like a three nothing in the
world you know, the tallest World Series, So I think
since it was only three zero, he gets hit a little,
(14:29):
rally gets going, and boom, you might actually win the game.
Speaker 14 (14:32):
So generally, yeah.
Speaker 13 (14:33):
That's bush league to do that if you're if there's
no way you're gonna get climbed back into the game.
But if it's a close game, then, especially in the
World Series, then you got to try to get on
base anyway you can.
Speaker 2 (14:44):
Yes, yes, that's what we're saying. It's an elimination game,
college World Series, whatever it takes to get on base.
I don't care about your perfect game or your no hitter.
I don't want to be no hit. David in Ohio, Hi, David.
Speaker 15 (15:00):
Yeah, Dan, I got a quick joke for tod He
was gonna get a job at the bagel shop, but
the manager wasn't sure if he was gonna throw up
for the job.
Speaker 2 (15:09):
Thang, you did you understand that joke? Tons?
Speaker 5 (15:15):
Yeah, I didn't catch all he did. The I thought
I missed a word or two, so he made it
sound like gibberishing.
Speaker 2 (15:21):
Oh so he didn't think you were going to show up?
Speaker 5 (15:25):
Is that what he said, show up.
Speaker 2 (15:26):
I couldn't even I think you haven't done that in
a while.
Speaker 5 (15:31):
I got some medental work done.
Speaker 2 (15:33):
No, you didn't.
Speaker 6 (15:34):
He wasn't even sure if you should have shown up.
You have no idea how that traumatized me. And they
swore in the fact that they didn't doctor.
Speaker 2 (15:40):
They didn't doctor.
Speaker 5 (15:41):
It's very scary now that's you. He did terrible.
Speaker 6 (15:45):
It sounds like some kind of someone's having some kind
of medical moment that needs to be addressed.
Speaker 2 (15:50):
You should take that recording to your dentist. I really should,
or somebody else. I don't know, neurologists.
Speaker 5 (15:56):
I don't know.
Speaker 2 (15:57):
If I don't know, Yes, I thought David deserved a gong?
Is it a oh?
Speaker 14 (16:02):
Oh?
Speaker 2 (16:03):
Okay? On my bet?
Speaker 9 (16:06):
Thank you?
Speaker 2 (16:09):
I bet he shouldn't be picking on Todd. Let me
see Ron and Vermont. Hi, Ron, what's on your mind today?
Speaker 16 (16:18):
Good morning Dan. I wanted to try to call in
on Friday and I had a question, but I wanted
to wish everybody a happy Father's Day with you. I'm
about your age. I have four daughters, have given two
of them away. My third one's coming up. Very difficult,
but a wonderful day Friday, I was going to ask.
I wanted to find out why is it that everybody
picks on Todd, especially you pick on Todd? And now
(16:40):
I'm at the point I understand and how can I
get back the last hour and twenty minutes of my life?
Speaker 2 (16:48):
All right? I find Todd very interesting, amusing. Sometimes he's
at his funniest when he's not trying to be He
just being Todd, and he is a treasure. There are
so many shows that try to emulate this show by
trying to have somebody like Fritzy, and you can't just
(17:09):
different than everybody else that's on radio.
Speaker 3 (17:13):
He is.
Speaker 2 (17:14):
You're a very interesting, entertaining guy.
Speaker 5 (17:20):
That's a nice thing to say.
Speaker 2 (17:21):
Okay, I appreciate that occasionally I have to say some
nice things. I forget to say nice things to you.
I do, but I'm trying to be better. My wife
reminds me that I should be more cognizant of saying
nice things and.
Speaker 5 (17:38):
Not everybody get your sense a humor. It's always part
two of that.
Speaker 2 (17:40):
In general, Yes, because you always think like I'm joking
with you when I say something. Right, you didn't believe
me when I just said that. You probably thought that
there was a hidden message.
Speaker 5 (17:49):
Yeah, but that's on me. I always think the other
thing I always take.
Speaker 6 (17:52):
The worst negative is what you do, Like I think
he meant to be mean there on my drive home,
replaying it in my mind.
Speaker 2 (17:57):
Oh no, no, there are times I mean to be mean,
to be mean, absolutely, but not now.
Speaker 5 (18:03):
Okay, this is not one of those times. No, no, no, no, no.
Speaker 2 (18:05):
No no. How about we take a break. We're just
getting started playing nice this second hour of the program.
We're back after this Dan Patrick show.
Speaker 1 (18:13):

Speaker 2 (18:25):
Hey Otani's long awaited debut for the Dodgers wasn't exactly
what fans that had visioned. One inning, two hits, one
earn and a little pedestrian. But I expected that. You're
not going to have him go out there and, you know,
try to throw three, four or five innings. Just get
him out there on the mountain, and then you know,
(18:45):
the beauty is once he's done pitching, he gets to
go hit. He was with twenty eight pitches last night
and he got up to ninety nine one hundred miles
an hour and then went back to work and had
a couple of RBIs as well. But this is a
starting staff that needs another arm in there. You know,
the era over four right now, got some injuries there
(19:08):
and they need some consistent arms certainly as we get,
you know, down the stretch here into October. But Otani
didn't dominate last night, gave up a couple of hits
in a run, but he still reminded us of all
that's right. He can't bitch and hit at the same time.
Speaker 4 (19:28):
Yeah, Paulie, I wonder they would ever consider making him
a closer or reliever. Then you could have more ride
of how you use him down the road and also
cut his innings down sixty percent.
Speaker 2 (19:43):
I don't know if they've ever thought about that, because
he wants to be a starting pitcher. I don't know
if he'd be better served at being a closer. Because
let's say the game goes to the eighth inning. He's
going to be in the game, but all of a sudden,
you go, let me bring him in for an inning
and then I can put him back in the outfield,
(20:04):
or you know, however you want to use him. But
it's interesting. Next time Dave Roberts is on, I'll ask
him that.
Speaker 4 (20:11):
Yes, Poe, remember it was it Well into his career,
John Smoltz, the great pitcher for the Braves, became a
closer after his elbow injury, and he became the best
closer in baseball. He had fifth He went from an
all star starter to injured two two years later, fifty
five saves. What a weird career path. And then he
(20:31):
went back to being a starter.
Speaker 2 (20:33):
Well, he wasn't a very good starter. I think after that.
Speaker 4 (20:36):
He had Yeah, he had my three good seasons in
his late forties.
Speaker 2 (20:40):
But he as a closer got into the Hall of Fame.
That got him into the Hall of Fame. He was
a great pitcher and then all of a sudden became
a closer and had a couple of remarkable seasons there.
Let's see John in Minnesota. Hi John, what's on your
mind today? Hey John? We got problems with the phones
(21:05):
here today. Katie and Appleton, Hi, Katie, what's on your
mind today? Turned down your radio? Turned down your radio?
Speaker 10 (21:14):
Katie?
Speaker 11 (21:17):
Is that better?
Speaker 2 (21:18):
Yeah?
Speaker 11 (21:20):
Okay, okay, I'm a second time caller. Five four hundred
and fifteen pounds. I'm calling to give Todd a little
support to day because he's had a rough morning. I'm
going to back him up a little bit on the
tuna fish bagel story. I don't think he was a
total Karen. I think he was half a Karen. I'm
going to give him a Wren because I think just
(21:40):
because kids start young and you tend to want to
give them a get out of jail free cards from
doing a good job, and I'm with Todd that they
should take more initiative and pay more attention to things
and not like wait till you're out of pennies before
you call the manager to get your pennies.
Speaker 2 (21:55):
Okay, but Katie, if he yelled at your daughter who
was working the drive through at a bagel show, how
would you feel?
Speaker 11 (22:04):
And that's why I'm calling him a wren, half a Karen.
Speaker 2 (22:07):
Okay, half a Karen.
Speaker 5 (22:09):
I yelled at thank you made it very clear that
I was disappointed and upset with the situation.
Speaker 2 (22:14):
All I know is what you told us the next
day of how upset you were.
Speaker 5 (22:17):
But I have a daughter. I'm trying to think.
Speaker 6 (22:19):
I don't remember like yelling, but I took I took
a tone that I probably I felt bad driving away
that I.
Speaker 2 (22:24):
Sent Robin Florida Joints this. Hi, Bob, what's on your mind?
Speaker 3 (22:29):
Oh?
Speaker 10 (22:30):
Yeah, yeah?
Speaker 14 (22:32):
Are you there?
Speaker 11 (22:33):
Yeah?
Speaker 3 (22:35):
Good?
Speaker 14 (22:36):
I got a couple of things I wanted to talk
to you about, and also request I have a stat
of the day for you. Could I get Darius Rutcker?
Speaker 3 (22:44):
Please?
Speaker 2 (22:45):
Sure, Marvin, can you get Darius Rutger?
Speaker 9 (22:50):
Pulling it up?
Speaker 2 (22:51):
Okay? Okay, dramatic pause, Darius Rutger status day one one two.
Speaker 9 (23:04):
He's gonna have to take what I get him?
Speaker 2 (23:06):
Oh, okay, all right, go ahead? Whoa how stead of
the day?
Speaker 5 (23:12):
Stand of the day?
Speaker 11 (23:14):
Start of the day?
Speaker 5 (23:15):
Start of the day.
Speaker 2 (23:17):
This is the start of the day. That's not just
on your screen like it's right there to touch, is it? Uh?
Speaker 9 (23:27):
I have other stats of the day?
Speaker 3 (23:29):
Oh?
Speaker 9 (23:29):
I use instead of it? Okay?
Speaker 2 (23:30):
All right, okay, Bob.
Speaker 3 (23:33):
All right?
Speaker 14 (23:34):
Seven pounds, nine ounces, twenty and a half inches same
linked brother and only announce lighter than big brother. My
second grandson was born over the weekend and I couldn't
get the show on the phone yesterday. Could the show
sing Happy Birthday to him? The award nominated Happy birthday.
Speaker 2 (23:57):
Is he listening?
Speaker 14 (24:00):
He's probably sleeping.
Speaker 3 (24:02):
Probably.
Speaker 2 (24:04):
What's his name, Bob.
Speaker 14 (24:07):
His name is Luke Ryan. Not like the singer Luke Bryan.
It's Luke Ryan because his father's first name is Ryan.
Speaker 2 (24:15):
Okay, all right, what's going on with phone calls today?
What's going on?
Speaker 3 (24:21):
All right?
Speaker 2 (24:21):
Here we go, Happy birthday? Thank you, Bob. Well, alrighty.
How about Ryan in Iowa?
Speaker 17 (24:34):
Hi Ryan, DP show?
Speaker 10 (24:37):
What's good?
Speaker 2 (24:38):
Not Luke Ryan, but Luke Ryan, Hi Ryan.
Speaker 10 (24:43):
I hope to bring up the level of the calls.
Two things, I live in southeast Iowa.
Speaker 13 (24:49):
When you guys come to Iowa, if you want to
come on over, I will cook all the smoke meat
you want to eat.
Speaker 14 (24:53):
And secondly, in today in show history, it is f
bomb day.
Speaker 10 (24:58):
I haven't staved in my account specifically for this day.
Speaker 2 (25:02):
F Bond.
Speaker 10 (25:03):
I wondering if we could. I wonder if we'd get
the clip with Kevin Costner.
Speaker 2 (25:06):
Oh boy, thank you Ry. Yeah, that's when Paulie got
yelled at by Kevin Costner. That's great, Yes, Marvin, we
have the clip.
Speaker 9 (25:17):
Okay.
Speaker 4 (25:19):
I watched Field of Dreams just again the other day.
Everyone loves that movie.
Speaker 2 (25:22):
It's got a lot of legs.
Speaker 4 (25:23):
This could be around forever. But I was wondering, when
you're getting pitched field of dreams, when they're pitching you,
you're at your peak of stardom. Do you ever think
this could be?
Speaker 2 (25:30):
Really?
Speaker 14 (25:32):
No?
Speaker 2 (25:32):
No, but like you were, No, we can't do that.
Speaker 4 (25:40):
That's awesome.
Speaker 2 (25:41):
Yeah, like he turned quick quick. You know you were
at the peak. Wait wait, what do you boom? It's
like you're on your own, Paulie, You're on your own,
Nathan and san Antonio. Let's try it again.
Speaker 18 (25:55):
Nate, Hey, damn things for calling me back. Sorry, I
was mute. Gotta gotta work, so figure anyway. You guys
are a rare form today. I was wondering if you
caught the broadcast last night when they were talking about
SGA and the pushing off, and what you thought about that,
(26:16):
because I'm a I'm a used basketball high school official here,
and if that trickled down into youth sports, I don't
know what we're going to do. What do you think
about that?
Speaker 2 (26:26):
I don't like to see it, but Jordan did this
his entire career. Most of the things you see in basketball,
we've already seen before, at least a reasonable fact simile.
Tim Hardaway used to do that push off, you know,
creating separation. Iverson used it, and a lot of guys
(26:49):
in the down through history who've used the forearm to
get a little bit of leverage there, to get a
little bit of space. And that's all they need is
just a little bit of space and the and they'll
make you pay. Sga gets away with the push he does.
It's part of his you know, it's arsenal. Yeah, polling,
and it's.
Speaker 4 (27:07):
One of those things. Sga does it twenty times a game.
You can't call it twenty times a game, so the
refs get locked. It's like James Harden five years ago
with the travel. Once they stopped calling it, he realized it.
He's going to do it every time because he knows
they can't call it.
Speaker 2 (27:23):
Yeah, it's weird how they would allow holding you like
a defensive player could hold your hip or they could
use an arm bar forearm there. You know, they the
evolution of the game itself. They want more scoring and
it feels like there's a lot more freedom on the
offensive end that they're not calling things. But then you
(27:44):
go back to the previous game with Scott Foster and
his crew, we're calling the game. You know, that was
the most fouls that have been called in the playoffs.
Sometimes you get that official who was going to call
that tiki tac, and other times you'll be like, just
let him play. We're going to let you play your
We're gonna let them play it therein in as long
as and players will tell you that. It's just like
(28:05):
the strike zone. If I know you're going to be
really friendly to Greg Maddox or Tom Glavin or John Smoltz,
at least I know going up there. If I know
you're going to be really friendly to Tony Gwynn or
Wade Boggs or Rod Carew with the strike z at
least I'm aware of it. And all you want is consistency.
It's when somebody gives you that wait a minute, that's
(28:26):
a strike. Get back in the box, that's a strike,
and then all of a sudden you got chaos there.
Zach and Knoxville, Hi, Zach, welcome back.
Speaker 15 (28:37):
Hi Hey DP, thanks for chaking my call. Man, Uh,
just piling on Fritzy. Man, you don't have any content
unless Fritzy's there. We're gonna have to we have to
get rid of that gong man. I don't I don't
like I don't like piling up on this guy like that.
Speaker 2 (28:51):
Okay, Okay, Well it is the Todd Fritz Show. Apparently
today Todd's father in law called a texting to say, hey,
it's the Todd Fritz Show.
Speaker 5 (29:03):
He's very amused by the banter back and forth.
Speaker 2 (29:06):
Vince and Iowa. Hi, Vince, what's on your mind today?
Speaker 3 (29:09):
Hey?
Speaker 10 (29:09):
Gaye pay thanks for taking my call. I wrote you
guys and gave a little care package earlier. This is
coach Philip here at Saint Ambrose University.
Speaker 3 (29:19):
Bring the sting.
Speaker 10 (29:19):
You guys got the helmet going in the back there.
I'm just curious if there's any updates on your guys's
Iowa trip this summer.
Speaker 2 (29:26):
No, I'm still trying to piece it all together. We
have three trips that were planning on later on summer
and fall, so it might be next year with Iowa.
But I promised before we're done with the show that
we will take the show to Iowa and a lot
of great invitations there. People in Iowa have been wonderful
(29:48):
and reaching out to say how do we make this work?
And we're still trying to sift through everything to make
this work, to take the show out there for a
couple of days, maybe for a football game. We thought
about that this year with Iowa Iowa State. It just
didn't work out. But we're trying to do it where
we can meet as many people in as many cities
(30:10):
as possible during the course of a week. That's what
our goal is. All right, We'll take a break. More
phone calls coming up eight seven to seven, three DP
show Top of the hour of the US Open champ.
JJ Spahn will join us. We're back after this.
Speaker 1 (30:23):
Be sure to catch the live edition of The Dan
Patrick Show weekdays at nine am Eastern six am Pacific
on Fox Sports Radio and the iHeartRadio WAP.
Speaker 2 (30:34):
Let me see Bill in Virginia. Hi Bill, what's on
your mind today?
Speaker 3 (30:39):
Hey?
Speaker 11 (30:39):
Dan?
Speaker 17 (30:40):
I wanted to bring up the Perfect Game.
Speaker 3 (30:44):
My son was playing with the.
Speaker 17 (30:46):
Cardinalists when they had the Tom Browning's Perfect Game and
he was the last out of the game to preserve it,
and I give him heck. I said, why didn't you
get a hit to break up the game? The Perfect Game? Said,
that wouldn't have been anything special. Now this is a
perfect game. Or they showed the last there I am
struggling out.
Speaker 2 (31:09):
Thank you, Bill. If he had gotten a hit, then
nobody cares. But he'll he's he's immortalized there. Hey, Tom
Browning threw a perfect game and I'm in that video.
I'm the last batter that he faced. Matt in Tennessee. Hi, Matt,
what's on your mind today?
Speaker 3 (31:28):
Oh?
Speaker 10 (31:29):
Good morning?
Speaker 19 (31:29):
Guys also calling about the perfect game that that didn't happen,
and you know, Todd. I turned on the radio this morning, Todd,
he's crying about it, and I thought, how many perfect shows.
Speaker 3 (31:40):
Have you had that Todd has ruin?
Speaker 5 (31:42):
You know? So I thought we're to throw that out
there for you.
Speaker 10 (31:45):
By the way, you're the best.
Speaker 2 (31:46):
Thank you, Matt. I don't like when people are picking
on you, Todd.
Speaker 5 (31:50):
He makes a valid point, though I have no comeback
for that there.
Speaker 6 (31:53):
I'm sure there were many shows where everything was just
clicking and then I said something stupid, or I forced
a joke or whatever and ruined the perfect.
Speaker 2 (32:00):
We haven't had a perfect show. We haven't and we
never will. But that's why we continue to do it
every single day. Right. We're looking for greatness, we just
don't know. We can't find it on our map.
Speaker 8 (32:14):
Here, Yes, Marvin, we had one that's pretty close in
Las Vegas, Cam Newton, Brent Musburger, Jim Nance. That's the
best show that I've been on.
Speaker 2 (32:25):
Yeah, but I think sometimes we get caught up in
the guest we have instead of how good were the guests?
How was the rest of the show. Because when I
worked at ESPN, ESPN would just look at the rundown
and go, boy, you had a great show. Well, they
didn't listen to the show. They just said, oh, I
saw where you had that guy on and that guy on.
I go and then I'd say, what did you like
(32:47):
of the interview? And then they didn't have anything. There's like, oh,
you know, the whole thing was just good. Yes, I
think your point is right.
Speaker 7 (32:56):
However, there is also a perceptionist reality kind of thing
with that mean, meaning you can look at just who
the guests are and be like, damn, that show is stacked. Yeah,
the rest of it could have been straight doodoo. But
you can look at it and be like, man, that
was really good. If you look and it says nothing
on there and you're like, yeah, but did you hear
the third segment that was so funny.
Speaker 2 (33:16):
Yeah, but we've had shows that were really good that
weren't guests driven right correct, Yes, yes, Ton, there is.
Speaker 6 (33:26):
A laziness by management. That's fair, and it's fair to
call out without naming names. Where just looking at different
colors on an email that have names on it.
Speaker 5 (33:33):
We've had really good name guests that didn't.
Speaker 2 (33:35):
Well I'm not naming names, no, I'm saying, I'm just.
Speaker 6 (33:37):
Saying but that we've had really good guests on the
show that weren't very good interviews that like, on paper,
it sounded like that would be a home run, and
it ended up the person didn't have any personality, it
wouldn't answer your question.
Speaker 5 (33:47):
So it could be a big name and it could
still be a disaster.
Speaker 2 (33:50):
The Cheap Seats wants to know if Todd hasn't had
a perfect show, has he ever thrown a show hitter?
I got no hitter?
Speaker 9 (34:00):
Interesting a show hitter?
Speaker 2 (34:04):
Okay, that's from the Cheap Seats, Yes, Marvin, But.
Speaker 8 (34:07):
Going back to my perfect show, Cam Newton, you guys
talked about Tom Brady being a game manager. You talked
to Brent Mussburger about getting to the Hall of Fame,
and you talked to Jim Nantz about Brent Musburger getting
into the Hall of Fame and you helping him out there.
Speaker 2 (34:21):
Okay, I mean no, that was a great show. But
we've done a lot of shows over the years.
Speaker 9 (34:28):
That's how good it was.
Speaker 2 (34:30):
Remember all right, it's fine, yeah, perfect. I'm usually I
leave it up to Paulie. I say how was the show.
Pauli'll be like, oh, it was this, because you just
do it and then you move on. Yes.
Speaker 4 (34:42):
My rationale is similar to what Marvin was saying. If
there's something you remember a week, a month, a year
later from an interview, a segment, or a show, that's
when we nailed it, when we did our job. When
you see someone on the street and they go remember
that Jerry West interview, I'm like, oh, from two thousand
and nine. Yes, And that to me is a litmus
test of sports radio could be disposable. Most sports radio
(35:04):
is disposable. It can be background noise, it could be
vanilla ice cream that you don't recall. But it's like
a meal you have somewhere once in a while. We
have that meal where I remember when I was here
and that happened, and this happened. And when we do
those type of shows, of those type of interviews. That's
when we had.
Speaker 2 (35:19):
Of a perfect game, perfect show. Mike and Wisconsin. Hi Mike, Hey,
good morning fellas.
Speaker 18 (35:27):
The show has definitely been interesting today.
Speaker 4 (35:31):
I thought maybe I.
Speaker 3 (35:32):
Could tip the scales in a positive direction with this topic.
Speaker 14 (35:36):
There's a Netflix documentary called America's Team about the Dallas Cowboys.
I don't know if you guys have seen it, if
you have thoughts on it.
Speaker 2 (35:44):
I have not seen it. I have not heard about it.
But if it's interesting and it's good, sure, Marviny have
you heard about this?
Speaker 9 (35:54):
It says it doesn't come out until August nineteenth.
Speaker 2 (35:57):
That's probably why I've not seen it. You'd be awesome. Yeah, well,
sometimes I'll get a screening, you know, they'll send me
a link to a screening and then you could watch
it before it comes out.
Speaker 5 (36:07):
Yes, better than being caught in alive. I love the
part with Billy Jojupri.
Speaker 1 (36:12):
What do you do?
Speaker 5 (36:13):
It's not even out you what are you talking about?
Speaker 18 (36:14):
No?
Speaker 2 (36:15):
I learned. You know, there are times when you can
say I don't know when somebody says, hey what about
and you could sit there and try to be s people.
And there are times when I just say I don't
know or I don't have an opinion on that. I
think you get in trouble is when you feel like
you have to have an opinion on everything and you
don't need to. Uh Rich in Ohio, Hi, Rich, what's
(36:37):
on your mind today?
Speaker 3 (36:39):
I just got a quick question for your credit staff
the researchers. When Indiana comes back and wins the NBA title,
I wonder if you're going to be the first champion
that was an underdog in every game.
Speaker 2 (36:52):
Probably so because they're one other team is close to them,
the biggest underdo and NBA Finals in the last what
thirty years, So yeah, I would imagine being an underdog
in every single game. Plus it feels like OKAC was
a nine or nine and a half point favorite in
(37:12):
every game in Okac, and you know, four or five
point favorite in Indiana. But yeah, if you're one of
the biggest underdogs in the history of the NBA Finals, sure,
Uh Kenny in La, Hi Kenny, what's on your mind today? Well?
Speaker 20 (37:28):
I like the idea about Tommy being converted to a
relief pitcher, similar to not only John Schmaltz, but Dennis Actorately, Yeah,
and those two guys here you go the Satura the day,
the only two guys to have twenty wins in the
season and fifty saves in the season.
Speaker 2 (37:45):
Stat of the day, SAT of the day, That beast
stat of the day. Stat of the day.
Speaker 5 (37:52):
Here comes that what stat.
Speaker 11 (37:54):
Of the Day.
Speaker 2 (37:57):
Brought to you by Panini America, the official trading card
to the Dan Patrick Show. But if you look at
John Smoltz, has there been a pitcher who led the
league in saves but also led the league in victories?
Because Smoltz did both. I think he had a twenty
four win season, maybe, and then he had fifty five saves.
(38:18):
Eckersley won twenty games, I believe, once with the Cubs,
and then he became the Hall of Fame closer with
the A's.
Speaker 4 (38:26):
Yampaul Ack won twenty at age twenty three with Boston
in nineteen seventy eight years later became a closer. He
led the league twice in saves. He never had. He
never led the league wins, though now Smoltz has that record.
Smoltz led the league wins with twenty four wins at
age ninety six.
Speaker 2 (38:44):
He he was aged ninety six.
Speaker 4 (38:46):
I'm sorry. In ninety six I'm sorry. And then in
two thousand and two he had fifty five saves to
leave the league. There is one other pitcher, Wow, this
this is gonna be a toughee who led the league
wins at one point in his career saves at another
point in his career.
Speaker 2 (39:02):
El Roy Face.
Speaker 4 (39:04):
No, this guy is He only retired about twelve years ago.
Good playoff pitcher did a lot of his work in Boston. Sinkerballer. Yes, Marv,
Tim Wakefield, Derek Lowe. I did not get this one
(39:26):
ahead to look it up. Derek Lowe had forty two
saves in two thousand and led the league with sixteen
wins in six dang He also bonus he once led
the league in the losses in his career. No one's
ever done that, including Smoltz.
Speaker 2 (39:40):
And he's a really good golfer too, Okay, and Smolt's
a good golfer.
Speaker 3 (39:47):
You know.
Speaker 2 (39:47):
Pictures don't have much to do, although when you're a closer,
it's a little bit different going out in golfing. But
I remember Smoltzen, Glavin and and Maddox would go out
and play golf. If it was that day when Steve
Avery was pitching for the Braves like we're out of here.
We're gonna go play golf. Go get him tonight, Steve.
(40:07):
Final Hour on the way on this Tuesday. We get
some more phone calls as well. We'll change up the
poll question as well. We will check in with Brian Scalabrini.
We'll talk to the NBA finals. Also in about ten minutes,
the US Open champ JJ Spawn will join us. A
few things to talk to him about, obviously and how
(40:28):
important the rain delay was for him to reset to
go on to win the US Open. He'll join us.
Coming up, The Minister of Humor is here, Fritzie Seaton,
Marv Paula, Yours truly final Hour in this Tuesday. After
this
