(00:21):
best and worst of the weekend. What you saw that
you liked, you didn't like. We will give you hours.
Chris Mannix from Sports Illustrated covering the NBA Finals will
join us from Oklahoma City as well. Eight seven to
seven three DP Show email address Dpatdanpatrick dot com, Twitter
handle a DP show. Good morning. If you're watching on Peacock,
thank you for downloading the app, and we say good

(00:42):
morning to our radio affiliates, including iHeartRadio, Fox Sports Radio
as well. I mentioned the at the end of last hour.
The DraftKings just sent me the NBA title odds for
next season. The Oklahoma City Thunder are your favorite. It's
second on the list to win the title next year.

(01:06):
The Houston Rockets plus seven point fifty. Wow. They were
plus twelve hundred before the Kevin Turan Durant trade. Then
it's the Cavaliers and the Knicks are tied at plus
eight fifty. Then it drops down to Minnesota, the Nuggets,
the Lakers, and then the Celtics. The Pacers are plus

(01:29):
thirty five hundred to win the NBA title, and that
in large part because of the injury to Tyrese Haliburton.
Stat of the stat of the day, stat of the day,
That stat.

Speaker 2 (01:44):
Of the day of the day.

Speaker 1 (01:48):
Comes that one stat of the brought to you by
Panini America, the official Trading Cards of the Dan Patrick Show.
I also have NBA MBP he odds for next season, Paul,
who do you think is the favorite? According to DraftKings

(02:08):
ah To, I'm going to go with SGA, begrudgingly, Todd
Jalen Brunson, Seatan Lebron, Marvin Joker, Joker, then SGA, and
then it dips to Jannie Luca and Anthony Edwards. It's

(02:33):
gonna be hard for Shay Gilgis to win the MVP
again next year. It just is so he's gonna have
the same stats. He might average thirty three a game,
maybe increases his assist total. Maybe they have the best
record in basketball. But we've seen that. This is the
hard part in repeating because it's something different, what is unique,

(02:59):
Like Luca would be the guy that I would put
my money on. Now, Joker, this could be the comeback.
It's weird. I don't think it's a comeback, but hey,
you didn't win, but you had your best season. All right,
let's give a Testga, then we'll let you back in
the MVP picture next year. Jiannis, if he stays in Milwaukee,

(03:23):
if you get your team into the playoffs, I mean,
he had an unbelievable year, but he's graduated to that
level where you go, yeah, I know, those are good numbers.
Joker has graduated to that. Yeah, Okay, that's fine. Those
are nice numbers. SGA just gave us those numbers. Now
he's got to try to outduel that, and that's going

(03:44):
to be hard to do. Luca. Luca would be my
choice at plus eight hundred, then Anthony Edwards after that.
But keep in mind those who vote. You know it's
consciously or subconsciously you like to have something new to
talk about. This could be Luca's Lakers, Luca in shape.
Now all of a sudden, you're seeing what he can be,

(04:07):
and you just hope that the Lakers get a big
man and then you might see them being a dangerous team,
and they should have been. They fell short in my opinion,
but you know they did try to get a big man.
Lucas said, Hey, I need that I'd like to get
in the lane. I love to do alley oops here.
Maybe they find that guy. But it's a good team.

(04:30):
But you're in the West and now Durant has relocated
and Houston is a young, hungry team with a closer,
and that's what you want. Come playoff time and keep
this in mind with Oka. See, they had a closer,
no matter what else happened, they had a closer. And
most great teams have that guy. You know. Jimmy Butler

(04:52):
was that guy when he was with Miami. He was
a closer, you know Steph with Golden State, Lebron with
the different teams that he played on. Even d Way like,
you gotta have the guy where you guys need a bucket, Hey,
we can't get one. Can you help us? Can you
help us get a bucket? That's what Durant gives you, joker,

(05:15):
He's going to give you a bucket. Yannis will give
you a buck. You gotta have the guy that everybody
knows is going to get the ball and he can
still score. But those are just some of the odds
for next season, with Joker being the favorite, slight favorite
over SGA to be the MVP, and the Thunder are
the big favorites to win the title, followed by the Rockets,

(05:36):
a big jump from plus twelve hundred to plus seven fifty.
All right, we'll get to phone calls coming up, Seaton,
would you recap the poll question from the first hour?

Speaker 3 (05:47):
Yep, sure, Ken, Let's see what this NBA Finals is
going to be most remembered for. Right now, it's the
Halliburton injury as about fifty five percent of that vote,
followed by okc's first title. SGA becoming a star in
the Durant trade are pretty far down there.

Speaker 1 (06:02):
Okay, Yeah, I'm gonna remember, I think ten years from now,
tyrees Haliburton, just with everything that happened, you know, the
totality of the postseason, and then you know, hitting the
shot in Game one and then all of a sudden
you get to a Game seven. What happened in Game six?
He started out really well in Game seven, and then
all of a sudden when he went down. It almost

(06:24):
felt like that took away some of the celebratory feel
that Okac had or was hoping to have, because it
just stops everything. You know, you have all this momentum,
you have, all this life in the building, You're gonna
win a title, and all of a sudden that happens,
and you hate seeing that. Obviously, he goes down and

(06:48):
I mean you could just see him writhing in pain.
And what happens when guys blow out their achilles, They
always look behind them, and you saw that. Tyreus Aliburton
thinks he got kicked. Talked about this, you know Dan
Marino when he blew out his achilles. They it's like
somebody kicked you. But all it is is you blow

(07:09):
out your achilles. And we found out that you do
not want to wear the number zero because that's Dame Lillard,
Kevin Durant, and now Tyrese Haliburton who've had zero and
blown out their achilles.

Speaker 4 (07:22):
Yes, Paul I went back and looked at the the
statue of Achilles and he did not have a zero
on his on his uniform.

Speaker 1 (07:29):
Did he blow out his achilles?

Speaker 2 (07:31):
Checking?

Speaker 1 (07:32):
Yeah, yeah, because I'm not sure how did they come
up with that name that it's we're gonna call it
the Achilles.

Speaker 4 (07:42):
He was a Greek hero of the Trojan War. The
death of Achilles is in the Iliad, Dan, I know
you read that. I read the Odyssey, pretend to read that.
I read the Odissey.

Speaker 1 (07:53):
Yeah.

Speaker 4 (07:54):
According to the myths myth, when his mother Theetsas dipped
him in the river sticks an infant, she held him
by one of his heels, leaving it untouched by the
waters and thus his only vulnerable body part, hence Achilles heel.

Speaker 1 (08:08):
My bad I Fritzi dis corrected me. Jason Tatum zero,
not Kevin Durant. So the three that we've seen with Halliburton,
Dame and Tatum all were zero.

Speaker 2 (08:19):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (08:20):
See, And later on in that story, Achilles is shot
by an arrow in his.

Speaker 1 (08:25):
Heel alters gets checking on that that's the Achilles.

Speaker 3 (08:28):
Sources the Achilles, Yeah, the heel, and then that's finally
what gets him.

Speaker 1 (08:32):
Okay, yeah, the Achilles heel and it made like a
popping sound. Thank you well, subject to an MRI of course,
back then, yes, well, yeah, he was out for two
to four years.

Speaker 4 (08:44):
I'm looking at that it was BC. They didn't have
any medical back then. Is anyone else any other body
part named after a person or mythological person?

Speaker 1 (08:53):
Or is he the only guy? I don't know. It
just dawned on me that there's a guy named Achilles
and that you have two Achilles. But I don't know.
I don't know when they were naming. But who named
body parts?

Speaker 3 (09:04):
By the way, Well, the Adam's apple, well we know
that that's named after Adam.

Speaker 1 (09:10):
Adam and Eve. Why isn't it Eve's apple? Hm? I
mean Adam gave it to you. You're shifting the blame. Yes,
a little lame to do that. Yeah, I don't know
who named body parts? How that worked.

Speaker 3 (09:28):
The Charles testicle is feeling pretty proud of himself. He
was like, that's all right, Yeah, Chuck test those are mine.
I thought of those named after me. Yeah, Charlie Testes.

Speaker 1 (09:37):
Yes, Charle's testicle one of the great ones.

Speaker 2 (09:40):
Thank you.

Speaker 1 (09:41):
Yes. Do you have a pole question? Do I have
a pole question for hour two?

Speaker 4 (09:49):
Well, the backstory on Adam's Apple, because we got to
learn a little Back in the sixteen hundreds, doctors used
it because of a in religious works. They that is
the judgment of God against Adam said the apple was
stuck in his throat, and then doctors in the sixteen
hundred started saying, that's your Adam's apple.

Speaker 1 (10:09):
Back to you, Okay, well, who do you put the
blame on? Adam or Eve? There?

Speaker 3 (10:18):
I say it's pretty convenient. I'll tell you that it's
aftfully convenient.

Speaker 1 (10:22):
Got off Scotch free and Scott free. I don't think
he was drinking scotch. See what's pole question for hour two?
We got one here?

Speaker 2 (10:32):
Man?

Speaker 3 (10:32):
Is that one of the answers in this is I
don't know if it's controversial, but it's shocking to read
and I think accurate.

Speaker 1 (10:39):
Okay, so it's from Paul.

Speaker 3 (10:40):
If you owned an NBA team and can add one
Giannis from the Bucks, Sam Presty from the Thunder or
Eric Spolster from the Heat? Is Eric Spolster currently the
best head coach in the NBA?

Speaker 1 (11:00):
If Rick Carlisle had won the title, then it'd be
Rick Carlole. He could put Joe Mizzula probably up there.
He might be.

Speaker 3 (11:10):
He's got to be top three best coaches, right. I
don't think he's considered top three great coaches. You don't
think no.

Speaker 1 (11:19):
I think I think the experts are you know, those
who cover the sport. The jury is still out on
how great a coach Joe is great roster. I think
they're probably still okay, you know, yeah, polm.

Speaker 4 (11:34):
I think if a Adoka from Houston was a free agent,
he'd be scalding hot right now. Yeah, the past has
been somewhat cleaned up, and all he does is raise
up teams and.

Speaker 1 (11:43):
We still don't know about that past. One of the
great mysteries there.

Speaker 2 (11:47):
Guy's got to put me in the top five. Give it.
Come on, help me out a little bit.

Speaker 1 (11:50):
No, thank you, docs. Let's see what I want to have,
Sam Presty or Eric Spolstra. I think I'd rather have
Sam Presty because I want somebody who will get the players,
get the environment to then give it to the coach

(12:11):
because you know, the San Antonio Spurs were great, but
they were great because they had the front office and
RC Buford did a wonderful job in getting those players
for Greg Popovich. Now he knew what to do when
he got them. You got to have somebody who gets
those players like Jerry West was really good at getting players,

(12:32):
and then you can give them to your coach and
then all of a sudden you can win championships. But
you got to get the players. Yes, Todd, different sport.

Speaker 5 (12:39):
But after what theo Epstein did with the Cubs in
the Red Sox, it makes you want to grab some
kind of genius front office person ahead of like anything else.

Speaker 1 (12:46):
Zach and Knoxville. Hi Zach, what's on your mind today?

Speaker 5 (12:51):
Hi ADP.

Speaker 6 (12:51):
Thanks for taking my call, perfect segue into shifting the blame.
I wanted to get your thoughts on Tracy McGrady was
on First Take on Friday and he said that if
he was in Kobe's position with Shack, then he would
have won titles. And he said that he was he
never had the chance and it's not my fault, and

(13:13):
that if he would have been in the playoffs, he
would have shown what he could do. And I thought
that he was in the playoffs and that he did
play in the NBA. So do you think talk like
that diminishes his legacy because Charles Barkley just says he
didn't get it done playing simple.

Speaker 1 (13:30):
Yeah, i'd have to hear the context of what Tracy
McGrady is saying that. Yeah, if you're playing with Shaq, Yeah,
you'll probably have a better chance of winning a title
than the supporting cast or the players that he played with.
But ultimately, you know it's on you. You can place blame.

(13:51):
But still you're Tracy McGrady, you're a great player. You
should be playing for titles. Gilbert Arenas was on first
aake at Fanatics Fest and had this to say on
Kobe Bryant being treated like a sidekick.

Speaker 7 (14:10):
In real time, Kobe had three rings. You all wasn't
treating him like a three ring player, and you're treating
him like a sidekick. He was considered a sidekick, He
was considered a robin. He was considered the next Pippin.
In two thousand and two, with three rings, we were
still comparing team who was better in the league.

Speaker 1 (14:29):
You couldn't convince the NBA down the.

Speaker 2 (14:31):
Middle who is better.

Speaker 7 (14:34):
So if you're if you're, if you're sitting there with
three rings and you're still being compared to someone who doesn't.

Speaker 2 (14:39):
Have rings, what do you think happened?

Speaker 7 (14:42):
You only respect the driver of the car, No one
respects the passenger of rings.

Speaker 1 (14:49):
Well that's you know, doing large part due to Jack.
I mean he was so you know omnipresent and yeah,
you know it's do. I think Kobe got the Scottie
Pittman treatment. Yeah at times, yes, And he had a
terrible debut in the postseason against Utah and missing shots

(15:10):
and you know, but you could still see that there
there was so much talent there. But then I think
Kobe got on Shaq's level and that that created some
of the friction because once Shack is the star and
Kobe is all right, you're my little buddy, and then
all of a sudden, little buddy gets up there with Shaq,

(15:30):
and then that created tension.

Speaker 8 (15:32):
Yes, Mark, I think the biggest difference is when we
talk about the three peat Lakers, we don't ever say
Shaq's Lakers. We say Shaq and Kobe's Lakers. You know,
we've said Jordan's Bulls, We've said Magic Lakers or Bird Celtics.
We never mentioned just Shack. We always mentioned Shaq and
Kobe when talking about those three peat Lakers teams.

Speaker 1 (15:51):
Yeah, and rightfully, so right right, so yeah, aside, I
don't see him. I never saw him as a sidekick.
I think Jack may have looked at him that way
or treated him that way to start, but then all
of a sudden, you saw what Kobe was doing, and
you're like, he can hold his own against anybody. Now,
he's as close to Jordan as we'll ever see. Yeah, pulling.

Speaker 4 (16:13):
I went back and looked at the Lakers three peat
twenty five years ago. The first a GOV series, Kobe
was twenty one. He averaged twenty one points per game.
But then the next year he averaged thirty points per
game in that playoffs. The entire playoffs, he stepped up quickly.

Speaker 1 (16:28):
We'll talk to Gilbert Arenas. He'll join us coming up next.

(17:43):
Thursday on YouTube. Good to see you again. Let me
start with ten years from now, we'll remember these NBA
finals for what.

Speaker 2 (17:54):
Nothing, nothing, nothing. No, let's just be honest.

Speaker 7 (18:00):
When it comes to small market teams, we really don't
remember much about them. We don't really talk about the
Toronto Championship, we don't really talk about the Bucks Gianna's championship.
And with this one, I mean, the only memorable.

Speaker 2 (18:18):
Thing was Halle game winner Game one.

Speaker 7 (18:22):
Other than that, there was nothing in this finals that
makes you say, oh my god, this was the great
Finals and let's put it up there with the top
ten of all time.

Speaker 2 (18:32):
It's not they didn't have none of those moments.

Speaker 1 (18:34):
Yeah, I mentioned Haliburton. Ten years from now will remember him,
but it's because of the postseason run Game one and
then blowing out his achilles. So I think if we
just say his name, I think we'll remember that ten
years from now.

Speaker 7 (18:50):
I think he'd be more remembered for the Eastern Conference
Finals what he did to the New York Knicks, because
that was a big series that it was like one
of those series because it was New York.

Speaker 2 (19:03):
And all the exposure on it and he showed up.

Speaker 7 (19:06):
I think he would be more remembered for that series
than really what happened in the finals.

Speaker 1 (19:11):
You talked to a couple of guys who have blown
out their achilles, and they had there was a commonality
to that of you have a calf injury. So you
talk to Tatum and Dame Lillard and then you see Halliburton.
We shouldn't be surprised that this happened.

Speaker 2 (19:28):
No, No, we shouldn't, you know. I think we all
thought about it.

Speaker 7 (19:32):
I think Kendrick Perkins mentioned that he shouldn't play in
Game six because of what has happened.

Speaker 2 (19:38):
In the past.

Speaker 7 (19:40):
I don't remember ever when calf strains turned into achille
tears from the past. So I wanted to ask, like,
do you have any symptoms? Were there any symtoms? They
both said, yeah, my calf was you know, hurting. So
we all knew he had a calf strain. We all
threw it out there that this could happen, but to
see it happen is another thing. And you know, it's

(20:02):
just sad that this happened in the finals and him
trying to fight back and help his team win.

Speaker 1 (20:07):
But is this just a coincidence with calf injuries leading
to torn achilles?

Speaker 7 (20:15):
With KD we could have said yes, but three people
and just this year alone, right, you know, where it's
pointed out that hey, hold on, these strains are turning
into you know, achille tears.

Speaker 2 (20:30):
So I think now.

Speaker 7 (20:31):
When someone has a calf strain, they should really treat
it double treatment now, Like so if it was you know,
two to three weeks, let's start doing five to six
just in case, because we can see that it's it's
costing you nine to twelve months.

Speaker 1 (20:49):
Well, a former player told me when he saw that
he had a calf injury. He said, during the regular season,
he's sitting out like he's going to be out for
at least a week with that, he's trying to come back.
He's you know, it's the NBA Finals. You don't want
to be on the bench. You want to try to
help your team, and unfortunately this season ends that way.
The other option that we had of what do we

(21:10):
remember ten years from now during the NBA Finals, could
be Kevin Durant got traded during the NBA Finals to
the Rockets.

Speaker 7 (21:18):
No, true, true, that was a big trade. We didn't
think that that was gonna happen that soon. How don't
even remember trades happening during the NBA Finals.

Speaker 2 (21:31):
This is this is new.

Speaker 1 (21:32):
No, the commissioner, Commissioner Stern, he had an edict, no news,
don't be hiring somebody. Don't be firing somebody, no trades.
Let the NBA Finals stand alone. That's what was surprising
about this that you had what happened with the Lakers sale,
and then you had KD being traded during the NBA

(21:52):
Finals and to Memphis. Oh yeah, yeah, yeah.

Speaker 7 (21:59):
Let's just be on it. It was probably the most
exciting stuff during the finals, you know, and I know,
you know when we talk about small markets, it's needed
because there are you know, cities that need finals, they
need recognition. But you know, when you do have you know,
teams like that that match up, the sales is down,

(22:20):
the marketing is down, the views is down.

Speaker 2 (22:23):
It's clocked through history.

Speaker 7 (22:24):
So you know, any kind of exposure that has to
do with the NBA it is needed, no matter if
you like it or not.

Speaker 1 (22:31):
And Durant going to Houston. We're talking to Gilbert Arenas
in his podcast, Gil's Arena. You have Durant going there
and he's gonna be what thirty seven. I know, he's
not a guy who you know, needs to jump, be fast,
be quick, like he's a guy who pick gets his
spots and then he's going to score. I don't know what, Like,

(22:54):
what does he add to Houston that you can count on?
And are they a true title contender?

Speaker 7 (23:02):
What you do ad is guarantee twenty to twenty five.

Speaker 2 (23:07):
You can just you know, staple that in.

Speaker 7 (23:10):
So he's going to give them consistency on you know,
getting buckets when they need it. The only concern I
will have is is the rest of the group mature
enough to help him win?

Speaker 2 (23:24):
See?

Speaker 7 (23:24):
I think that's usually what we miss here with Kevin Durant.

Speaker 2 (23:28):
He's an A student now.

Speaker 7 (23:30):
The people around him that he has to do these
group projects with, they're not A students with him. Right
when he went to Golden State a students honor students.

Speaker 2 (23:39):
We've seen what happened when.

Speaker 7 (23:41):
He went to you know, Brooklyn, and everybody wasn't you know,
doing turning in the assignments. Same thing in the Suns,
everybody wasn't turning in their assignments. But he's getting blamed
for the group project when his part of the assignment
is an A. Now, this is what is everyone going
to bring an A type performance for them to be successful,

(24:03):
And I don't think they're ready for that yet. Their
games are not mature. Sangoon still thinks he's Jokic. When
you're Sandune, you guys have different games. You have to
understand what you're good at, stop trying to be you know, Yoki.
So he's still having trying to figure out what his

(24:24):
game is.

Speaker 2 (24:24):
Same thing with Amen. Amen's trying to figure out what is.

Speaker 7 (24:28):
He we know your freak of nature. We know you
are a two way player, but you really have to
carve out your identity. So with so many pieces trying
to figure out who they are, I don't know if
they're going to be a real contender. But they do
have Camra Durant and you have a great coach.

Speaker 2 (24:45):
Everybody else has roles that they they accept, so it
could work.

Speaker 1 (24:53):
Phoenix Suns are a mess, yeah, a mess.

Speaker 2 (24:57):
Yeah.

Speaker 7 (24:58):
I mean it starts from the head right when you're
talking about not Kevin Durant, we're talking about the owner, right,
even though he has a basketball background went to Michigan State.
Do you know what it takes to put a winning
team together? That goes from personalities, that goes from basketball style,

(25:21):
that goes from coaching, that goes from gms.

Speaker 2 (25:24):
What are they looking at? What's their eye? Right? You
have to have an eye for talent and how it
works together.

Speaker 7 (25:31):
Like just playing in the game and looking at those
three I'm saying, oh, you need to be in a
triangle or you need to be in the Printon offense,
because the offense is not made for your superstar. It's
made for the team. So the team can move around
and get little buckets here and there to keep them excited,
to keep the defense honest.

Speaker 2 (25:48):
But when you have a stationary offense where.

Speaker 7 (25:51):
Your three main guys have the ball to everyone since
in the corner, I don't have to guard the corner guys,
So that means I'm.

Speaker 2 (25:57):
Just gonna guard.

Speaker 7 (26:00):
Kevin, Duran and Beal and we're just gonna load up.
And that's what the triangle was made for. Yeah, we
got Jordan, Kobe and Shack, but we're gonna make you
guard bj Armstrong Steve Kerr because we're.

Speaker 2 (26:11):
Gonna move them off screens and if.

Speaker 7 (26:13):
You don't play it correctly, here's gonna be a layup,
here's gonna be a jump shot.

Speaker 2 (26:16):
And that's what they didn't do in sons.

Speaker 1 (26:18):
What was your thoughts or thoughts on Lebron where he said,
you know that we're obsessed with chasing rings. The media
is obsessed with players chasing rings.

Speaker 7 (26:30):
He's right right, It was the same thing Michael Jordan said.

Speaker 2 (26:34):
You know, he said the same exact thing. He said.

Speaker 7 (26:36):
You know, Bill Russell got eleven, but does that make
him better than me?

Speaker 2 (26:40):
Right? I got six? Does that make me better than him?

Speaker 7 (26:42):
Because obviously there's more to just a ring and talent.
You can be talented and not win a ring. You
can be horrible and win a ring because you got
a great cast around you.

Speaker 2 (26:55):
So what they're saying is correct.

Speaker 7 (26:57):
And it goes by the top seventy five list, right,
the top seventy five lists that was put in, voted in,
and then they voted in order.

Speaker 2 (27:06):
That lets your note.

Speaker 7 (27:08):
Rings doesn't necessarily matter because you have Scottie Pippen with
six rings, six All NBA or seven All NBAS, seven
All Stars, ten Defensive Awards, but he's sitting at thirty
two thirty one. It's allan iverson no rings. So you're
telling me six rings is getting beat out by what

(27:29):
four scoring titles in MVP. Then you got Chris Paul
sitting at twenty nine. Then you got Karl Malone, John Stocked,
and Charles Barklay not none of them got rings, but
they're all in front of Scottie Pippen. Then at seventy
five you have Dame Litard right, six all Stars at
the time, six All NBAS. Klay Thompson doesn't.

Speaker 2 (27:51):
Make it in.

Speaker 7 (27:52):
He has three All three Championships, two five All Stars,
two All NBAS. His resume is not better with the rings.
So it's showing you that rings don't matter. Your individual
talent matters first. Then the rings kind of help you
over the top. But the media has pushed rings as

(28:14):
the cake instead of just a cherry on top.

Speaker 1 (28:17):
Would you rather have Scottie Pippens's career or Alan Iverson's history?

Speaker 7 (28:22):
Says Alan Iverson. He's gonna be remembered more because his
background says he was a top player in the NBA.

Speaker 2 (28:31):
He was an MVP. Remember all MVPs.

Speaker 7 (28:34):
One, you're the best player if you're a scoring champ,
says your top five. I don't know how many scoring
champs in the NBA went to second team All NBA,
usually their first team All NBA.

Speaker 2 (28:45):
So it kind of says who he was.

Speaker 7 (28:47):
In the NBA, right, you know, the average fan is
gonna say, yeah, I'm gonna take the six rings, I'm
gonna be a champ. But we're looking at Scotty Pippen
and we've seen how Scottie Pippen.

Speaker 2 (28:56):
Has been treated with six rings. He's not treated like
Michael Right, So when you.

Speaker 7 (29:02):
Say my legacy, the legacy for you personally, yeah, six rings,
but the legacy for everyone when you walk in public?

Speaker 2 (29:11):
Are you respected?

Speaker 7 (29:12):
If you say Scottie Pippen and Alan Iverson, everybody runs
to Allen Iverson because they remember he was iconic at
what he did. I mean, as a basketball player, we're
taught we want to be a champion. We get reality
once our career is done. And we're sitting there six
rings trying to get you know, these business deals done,

(29:33):
and everybody's like, yeah, you're not Michael Jordan, and you're
like hmmm, and you know that's it's the sad truth.
I just do the research and then say what I found.
You know, they can they can disagree, and then I
can say, well, here's all the facts. Do you do
you not like the facts. There's a reason Kobe's at
tim There's a reason Kobe with three rings push shack

(29:57):
away because when he had the three rings and we're saying,
he's saying, hey, I'm Michael Jordan, and they're like, yeah,
well Shaq is carrying you. And he's like wait what no, wait,
wait hold on the lim You told me that I'm
the next thing to Michael Jordan. Why are you not
treating me like that? So now as well I need
to get rid of him. To show who I am whining.
That's why his fourth and fifth ring to him is

(30:18):
the most special one.

Speaker 2 (30:19):
They're the sweetest ones. You see, the reality of it is.

Speaker 7 (30:24):
We're we're we're finding out in real time.

Speaker 2 (30:27):
We're told championships is everything.

Speaker 7 (30:29):
When we're getting them and we're not being recognized for him,
that's when reality kicks in.

Speaker 1 (30:35):
But do you think that Kobe is the one who
initiated this? I mean there was friction with him in Shaq.
First of all, Shack had his little brother. Then all
of a sudden, little brother is getting thirty and then
all of a sudden things change that Yes, we did win.
I had an equal hand in this. But then did

(30:56):
it get to the point where both their egos or
maybe Kobe's ego to say, I got to prove that
I can win without shock.

Speaker 7 (31:05):
And that's and that's that's exactly what it is. You're winning.
He's getting all the credit, and he's like, well, I
am aged thirty two. I did my part. Why I'm
not getting the equal love? Right, So when we talk
about champions and you're giving option one all the love
while Option two is like I did just as much damage, Kyrie,

(31:30):
same thing, Hey, hold on, I hit the game winner.
I hit the game winner, didn't and Lebron is getting
all the credits, so he's like, well, I need to
I need to go and show people I can do
this by myself too. That's what ends up happening. That's
where the egos come from. The egos come from. I'm
watching the guy get all the love and I'm waiting
next and I'm hearing all the people and everybody's going

(31:50):
getting all all the graphs and they're like, hey, Robin,
you did great, and he's like, Robin, oh no, no, no no.
I'm like I'm like a batman too. I'm like a
little bit like I'm one B. I'm one B. Give
me the one beloved. And they don't get it. And
that's where the ego plays a part.

Speaker 1 (32:07):
How many titles? If Shaq and Kobe stay together, do
you think they win?

Speaker 7 (32:13):
I talked to players on the team because I'm a big,
big Kobe fan, even though people don't think, like every
my whole life revolves around in tattoos, La Kobe everything.

Speaker 1 (32:22):
Wait, you got Kobe tattoos?

Speaker 7 (32:24):
I got a number, I got a twenty four tattit
after he won his championship by himself.

Speaker 2 (32:29):
Right, I got it.

Speaker 7 (32:30):
I got it right on my leg twenty four. Tat
it right because as a Kobe fan, when they say
you couldn't win one without Shaq.

Speaker 2 (32:36):
It's like you proved everybody wrong. Yes, that's yes.

Speaker 1 (32:39):
Wait wait wait you're in the league with Kobe. Yeah,
and you got a tattoo of Kobe.

Speaker 2 (32:45):
Yes.

Speaker 1 (32:49):
What did he say when he said it?

Speaker 2 (32:51):
He never knows, he's never seen it before.

Speaker 1 (32:53):
Did he know you had it? Yes?

Speaker 2 (32:56):
Like people don't know. Like people don't know. Like I played.

Speaker 7 (32:59):
I played in the Olympics or the two thousand and
six Triba games.

Speaker 2 (33:03):
I wore number ten.

Speaker 7 (33:04):
I wore number ten because I had the conversation with
Kobe if you ever played in the game, what number
would you wear? And he said, I'm wearing number ten
because there's one more than Jordan's nine. Okay, So when
I got the team, I wore ten. And then when
I didn't make the team and he played, he wore team.
But I did that for I did that for that,
So I'm Kobe always.

Speaker 1 (33:24):
It's kind of stalker ish here, you know for sure? No, no, no,
you have any other players on your body?

Speaker 7 (33:32):
No, just just cobD No, no, oh no, no, Penny
Hardaway College. So those are my two favorite Peenny Hardaway.

Speaker 2 (33:39):
Wait, when I went to Orlando. When I went to Orlando,
I wore number one.

Speaker 7 (33:43):
I were number one also, so I have Penny twenty
five on my leg. So I wore twenty five in
high school because of Penny Memphis.

Speaker 1 (33:52):
Do you have short son? Yes, show me the Kobe.

Speaker 7 (33:56):
One said, I don't know if you can see so.

Speaker 1 (34:02):
So whoa, okay, wow you gotta yeah, you got Kobe
close to your heart there.

Speaker 7 (34:08):
Yea, So twenty fours right here, and it's blessed with skills.

Speaker 1 (34:16):
Wow, yeah, I know.

Speaker 7 (34:18):
But I think they would have won if Shaq. So
this is what was said. If Shaq was still the
leader and the head of the Snake on the two
thousand and two two thousand and three team, we would
have won that fourth championship. We would have won the fourth.
But that's where the argument where he got coined the Batman.

(34:39):
And then Shaq got hurt, missed the first twelve games
of that season, and Kobe put the crown on and
that's where the fighting started. Because Phil couldn't get it
from him, right. He was like I'm not taking a
back seat anymore, and so they would have won that
championship if Shaq was still the lead dog they think,
and then obviously the Karl alone them they could have

(34:59):
won that one.

Speaker 2 (34:59):
But I think they would have probably had at that time.

Speaker 7 (35:04):
All the way probably to two thousands six. Right that
two thousand and six season, they could have still managed,
just added a couple of pieces. Then Shaq would have
probably start declining right there, and then just you know,
added someone else.

Speaker 1 (35:22):
I think they could have what do you say to
your wife or what does your wife say to you
when she realizes you have Kobe's tattoo on?

Speaker 2 (35:31):
That's my mom, it's my fandom, because this is it's
my it's my fandom.

Speaker 7 (35:36):
I'm a fan, like I'm one of those like if
I wasn't an NBA player, I would be a season
ticket holder with the paint on sitting here.

Speaker 2 (35:45):
That that crazy.

Speaker 7 (35:46):
Guy that's outside as the broaderground, that will be me
Like I was. I was a fan first, and I
used to say when I played, like I'm an NBA player,
but I'm a fan first. So I got That's why
I got all the If you look at my room, right,
I got the okc's on one side and then aiding
Anna's one on the other side. Right, I'm rooting for both, right,

(36:08):
But I'm a Laker. I'm a Laker at at at heart.

Speaker 1 (36:11):
But I now know why you didn't show Kobe given
the location of that tattoo on inner thigh, you know. So, hey, Kobe,
come here, I want to show you something.

Speaker 7 (36:19):
Yeah, you know it's it looks a little weird, is right,
you know, like, why would you put it down here
and say, well, I'm covering everywhere else?

Speaker 2 (36:25):
You know.

Speaker 1 (36:28):
Great to talk to you, as always, I appreciate it.
That's a Gilbert Arenas, host of Gil's Arena podcast and
uh Gil and Underdog's Hit Show, which streams Monday through

when we come back our best and worst of the weekend.
Thanks for listening to The Dan Patrick Show podcast. Be

Arenas is a lot of fun. I love the enthusiasm
that he has and you know that he loves the
game and he knows the game as well. It's not
just an opinion. It's an informed opinion. It's a hot take.
It's an opinion, but it's it's backed with research and

(37:31):
I love that.

Speaker 3 (37:32):
Yes, I love too that This is the second guest
we've had on in a week or so who spoke
about while they were playing being huge fans of the
guys they were playing against. Jeff Tigue with this way,
I think we just had him on Schumpert talking to
him about how he was like, oh, no, like, I
love these guys.

Speaker 1 (37:50):
I'm a huge fan of this guy.

Speaker 3 (37:51):
That's why I would study him so much, because I'm
a massive fan of so and so, and then they
would play against each other. I love that at sort
of you know, being able to be compared additive while
also still just like in awe.

Speaker 1 (38:02):
How about we go around the room best and worst
of the weekend, Todd, I'll start with you.

Speaker 5 (38:06):
My best of the weekend, although twenty three year old
rookie Jacob Mizerowski if the Brewers lost his bid for
a perfect game in the seventh inning against the Twins
Friday Night, started his major league career with eleven hitless innings,
first started to do that since nineteen hundred more wins,
then hits aloud in his first two career starts, and
that supposedly has never happened, at least not since nineteen hundred.
Worst of the weekend They did win on Sunday, and

(38:27):
not to pile on, but the Rockies five to three
loss to the d back Saturday gave them loss number
sixty of the season, falling to seventeen and sixties seven
and twenty nine at home, twenty nine and a half
games back in your NL West.

Speaker 1 (38:39):
See no Connor. My best of the weekend is Rick Carlisle.

Speaker 3 (38:43):
You can't come away from that loss like that in
the finals looking much better than I think the way
he does now. I think he hit everything sort of
on point throughout this series. My other best is the
Mets too hit seven solo home runs in one game.

Speaker 1 (38:58):
That's kind of fun of investing.

Speaker 8 (39:00):
Worst best at the weekend Rafael Devers hitting his first
home run as a Giant against the Red Sock.

Speaker 2 (39:07):
That is correct. And then my worst of the weekend.

Speaker 8 (39:10):
The paces in the third quarter getting I'll score by
fourteen with eight turnovers. That was the difference in the
game for me.

Speaker 1 (39:17):
Paul beston worst show.

Speaker 4 (39:18):
Heyo Tani pitching again and pitching well. There was a
point maybe a year ago, where I thought he may
never pitch again out of safety or injury. And it
looks like it's going in the right direction. Just a
special time to be around to see this unique player
that's once in a lifetime. The other is Cal Rawley,
the catcher for the Seattle Mariners. These guy's had a
nice career power hitter, not exactly a numbers guy batting average.

(39:41):
He is hitting two seventy six this year in seventy
five games, he's got thirty one home runs and he's
really entertaining good guy, good coverage out there.

Speaker 1 (39:50):
He's the second catcher in baseball history to hit at
least thirty home runs in three or more consecutive seasons.
Mike Piazza did that eight consecutive seasons. Stanta the Jay Stand.
We love your.

Speaker 3 (40:07):
Stana stat of the Jay Out of the Day brought
to you by Panini America and Pandora.

Speaker 1 (40:16):
Speaking of which, Pandora from Nevada joining us. Hi, Pandora,

Speaker 1 (40:28):
Did you guys like my honey? Yes? I did. Thank
you for the gifts that you sent. Very sweet of you.

Speaker 2 (40:35):
So I have a pull question for you guys.

Speaker 5 (40:39):
Answer is yes or no?

Speaker 1 (40:41):
Is Adam Silver the white appa ganger of Tony Dungee
or not. I'd have to I'd have to study that
a little more, Pandora. Uh, but I'll give that, give
that some thought there.

Speaker 3 (40:55):
Yes see, I do kind of love the idea that
while Pandora's working on the honey and off on the ranch,
these are the things that are sort of keep buying,
you know, it's kind of a white Tony Dungee.

Speaker 1 (41:06):
Yeah, Pandora, send us some gifts, Send us a picture
and sweatshirt, Got some honey, some salsa. We got it,
We got it all all going on. Thank you, Pandora.
