Speaker 1 (00:00):

Sports Radio.

Speaker 2 (00:04):
It's gonna be okay. We're fine, Hey, Cod be know
and rich In for DP. Thank you Dan Patrick, Thank
you Danetz. Happy to see you. Hope you had a
nice weekend. Let's have a great week. This is day
two of our segmented hat trick. We'll be here tomorrow
right now, broadcasting live from the Fox Sports Radio Studio,
broadcasting live from Atlanta during the MLB All Star festivities.

(00:26):
We got voted in, bro Bnmber one voted in.

Speaker 3 (00:32):
We're gonna be filling in for Dan Patrick that week.

Speaker 2 (00:34):
The brightest baseball athletes from HBCUs are about to make
history there in Atlanta. Cash to HBCU Swingman Classic presented
by t Mobile, hosted by Ken Griffy Junior, and stay
for the postgame fireworks at Truest Park on July eleventh.
For tickets, visit All Star Game dot Com your chance
to see the fireworks. Rich since you missed out this weekend.
You know I saw fireworks, but no you didn't, not

(00:56):
not like good ones.

Speaker 3 (00:56):
You saw jumping checks.

Speaker 2 (00:57):
Bro you said sparklers, then you saw whistlers.

Speaker 3 (01:03):
Something from your roof, your panels it doesn't count them.

Speaker 2 (01:07):
Boy, Hey, you know I want to do some NFL
to kick off hour two. I had a question though,
of the Dan Patrick Show. What was your question, buddy?
First we got trivia, we're giving away prizes. We'll do
that next hour. Last one is standing Joey Chestnut stumping by.
We'll talk some NFL next and by still eating the
leftover potatoes out on my fridge. I don't know that's
my question today. Really, it's a seventh jo your leftovers.

(01:28):
Everybody's still beating that crap. To wrap up last hour,
that George Costanza bobblehead for the game in August at
Yankee Stadium to ninety nine. I'm seeing on eBay right now.
It's George sleeping under the desk. I love a good
nap sometimes it's the only thing getting me out of
bed in the morning.

Speaker 3 (01:47):
That's the quote. But getauty.

Speaker 2 (01:54):
And people care more about a bubblehead than your Yankees,
speaking of lots of Yankees in the All Star Game.

Speaker 3 (01:59):
Is our goal.

Speaker 2 (02:00):
Again not only to do a great show and for
Dan Patrick from Atlanta, but we're gonna try to get
on TV or what.

Speaker 3 (02:07):
Bushwhacking is I want? Derby? I want the world to
tune in because whoa. Our whole goal.

Speaker 2 (02:13):
We used to go to home run Derby's every year
early on in the show's history, and our goal was
just to get on TV so our listeners could see
us and we would do the Luke and Butch bushwhacker whoa,
and getting on TV accidentally like that meant more than
actually having a show on Dude, it's the most thrilling

(02:35):
thing ever. It's more thrilling we've had our own TV
show on ESPN. Getting on the big screen and on
TV for the home run Derby is more exciting.

Speaker 4 (02:44):
What would mean more to you Aaron Judge on set
with us or you guys getting on TV Bushwhacking.

Speaker 3 (02:50):
That's a great question, dude.

Speaker 2 (02:52):
I don't know, because well, then again, yeah, I'd have
to deal with criticism of how small we look next
to Aaron Judge, so I could avoid that. Getting on
TV would mean more to me, honest, dude. You know
how our phone blows up? You know if people see
us talking to Aaron Judge people out there, they are
interviewing people again, whoo pretty do if they see us

(03:13):
on TV Bushwhacken during the home run Derby, the phone
blows up.

Speaker 3 (03:17):
Everybody loves it. I just saw you idiots. Yeah right
there they are on TV. It's still a big deal.

Speaker 2 (03:23):
So our goal, I think I'm gonna declare it here
on the Dan Patrick Show. Our goal is to make
it onto TV somehow, some way, like Beavis and butt
Head in the background, just trying to get in on
a camera shot.

Speaker 3 (03:35):
Uh, you know, just try to get on there. Rich,
So look out for us.

Speaker 4 (03:40):
Adam Sandler acknowledging you are alive or you getting on TV.

Speaker 3 (03:45):
Adam Sandler, I'm not into it as much as he is.
Fu Come on.

Speaker 2 (03:50):
If you go to YouTube and search Covino and Rich
home run derby, you'll see the excitement. We're like jumping
out of our chair and excitement. It is pretty anytime
a home run goes in our direction and you get
on TV, it's the best feeling ever. It's like it's
like when they put you on the big screen at
the ballpark. You lose all sense of what's appropriate. You
just lose your.

Speaker 3 (04:08):
Mind, Like, ah, I'm on the screen.

Speaker 2 (04:11):
It's so much fun. So look out for us. We're
proud to bring it to you from Atlanta next week.
Right next week, we fly out a week from yesterday,
So let's go and for DP now baseball, I get
it halfway there, living on a prayer. As you always say,
Bancho should be further along by now. Yeah, but football

(04:35):
fifty nine days away? Is that correct?

Speaker 4 (04:37):
Right?

Speaker 3 (04:38):
Countdowns on?

Speaker 2 (04:40):
I mean, it's just interesting because when football hits, your
life changes. I've always made this ridiculous proclamation that when
you date someone, I feel like they need to see
you through the different sports seasons before you settle down.
Like I feel like my wife needed to see me

(05:00):
in football mode before she knew what she was getting into.
Because we're talking Thursday night, Sunday, Sunday night, Monday night,
and then if you're into college football Saturday like, it's
a your life changes come football season. As goofy as
that sounds, it's true because it takes up so much
of your life, so much of your time. Can your
significant other deal with that? Are they gonna understand your

(05:25):
passion and love of sports and football? Will it work?
You know, they don't have to love it the way
you love it, but will they accept your habits?

Speaker 3 (05:36):
I guess?

Speaker 2 (05:38):
So we'll talk about the NFL upcoming season and projections,
because if you remember last year, USA Today did the
weakest projection ever.

Speaker 4 (05:47):
Yeah, and that's what we wanted to kind of do
a little later this morning, a reminder that projections mean nothing.

Speaker 2 (05:53):
Yeah, I mean nothing, because if I'm not mistaken, if
you think back a year ago, I think they projected
that the Jets would be the pack And of course
that's all to get people to talk and speculate, and
so it makes a headline. Becau who's reading USA today,
No offense, but the Jets and the packers. Now there's

(06:14):
another story in the world of what's the world of tennis?
Actually it's Wimbledon this weekend tennis. Yeah, zappathios to Dennis, right,
I think I'm wearing these shoes. And Andy Ronnick spoke about,
you know how tough it is to play tennis.

Speaker 5 (06:32):
Take listen, I think tennis players are the best athletes
in the world. Five hours and forty something minutes on
the biggest stages. You compare this to other sports. An
NBA game is forty eight minutes played in air conditioning,
where you have teammates, halftime timeouts. To say one thing
doesn't mean you're throwing shade at someone else. I'm celebrating
and applauding one set of athletes. It's the most complete
examination of an athlete that I can think of. You know,

(06:55):
we used to get viewed as like, oh, your soft,
like country club sport. I don't know that that narrative exists.
I don't know how you can watch and not say
the athleticism on display is otherworldly. I think tennis players
are the best athletes in the world. The more I
watch it, the more I think it tell me why
I'm wrong who.

Speaker 3 (07:14):
I like that take.

Speaker 2 (07:15):
You know, here's what I want debate. I won't debate
that tennis is a lot harder than people give it
credit for, not only for endurance, because it's a skill sport,
like even if you're a good athlete, and yes, I
use three syllables athlete, even if you're a good athlete
or athlete. Yeah, because rich is very particular on that. Well,

(07:36):
it's a two syllable word you like to throw. It's like,
you know, it's like when our update anchor Monzi says timberwolves.
I can't just let things come out. Dumb things you
say that I let slide throughout the day. But I
won't deny that it's a skill sport. So let's say
you're hitting bombs in your softball league, or you're the

(07:56):
greatest athlete that ever was. If you've never played tennis,
can just go out there and wing it. That's not happening.
Because even when I played sports every day as a
as a younger man, if I went out to play tennis,
I sucked.

Speaker 3 (08:10):
I because it's a skill sport.

Speaker 2 (08:12):
You have to know how to backhand, you have to
know how to return a serve, you have to know
how to serve. There are things you could just do
because you're a good athlete that takes practice. And I
took believe it or not, you know, you had to
take a gym or sports elective in college. I took
tennis just to see if I can get better, and
like hang as I got older, play with my uncle
or something, and even still I was just okay. It's

(08:36):
not an easy sport. But as far as they're the
greatest athletes, I don't know about that five hours and
forty minutes of hustle. I think it's there's different gages
of athleticism.

Speaker 3 (08:51):
Get in the ring, man and tell me about it.
You tell me.

Speaker 2 (08:56):
How about getting punched in the face while using all
your endurance at it. This way, there's such a you
know what it's like. It's a it's like trying to
define like what's hot, right, like Cavino and I could
look at different women and be like, yo, that girl's perfect, and.

Speaker 3 (09:11):
You'll be like, dude, she's too fit. I like a
fat ass, And I'm like, well, that that's not what
I like.

Speaker 2 (09:17):
Yeah, everyone's gonna have a different answer because it's all subjective, right,
And I think what defines great athleticism or great skill
it's so subjective because you know, I can't tell you
how many times because I know you'll be like, what
about a tub of ghoul like Bartolo cologne? But I
will see premier athletes in other sports try to swing
a baseball bat or throw.

Speaker 3 (09:38):
A ball and I'm like, yeah, what do you do again?

Speaker 2 (09:42):
That goes with the skills side of the sport less
athleticism involved in that. It's like do you have this
particular skill or not? And that's how I view tennis
a lot in a lot of ways. I so you
could be really athletic and have stamina and endurance and
all sorts of skills and stink at tennis. It's about
the actual skill, not necessarily about your athletic abilities. So

(10:03):
let's just I will say it's it's way harder than
it looks, and it's an underrated sport as a result,
it's way tougher than you think. Let's define those two
things to just start the conversation. They're two different things,
skill and athleticism, right, because skill, If you say what's
the skill, I'd say, no doubt one hundred.

Speaker 3 (10:25):
Hitting a baseball, I mean everybody says it, the round bat,
round ball thing.

Speaker 2 (10:30):
Your favorite boxer, you know, number fourteen rank, Jake Paul.

Speaker 3 (10:36):
I saw Jake Paul swing a baseball.

Speaker 2 (10:37):
Bat for a guy that's over six foot, athletic, young,
you know, doing everything he's doing.

Speaker 3 (10:44):
He he looked like he never played baseball. Yeah, maybe
he hasn't. You saw Kevin Durant.

Speaker 2 (10:49):
I saw Kevin Durant throwing a first pitch one so
like Kevin Durant, one of the best pure shooters in
NBA history.

Speaker 3 (10:54):
One of the most dominant guys.

Speaker 2 (10:55):
Kevin Durant throwing got a first pitch, looked like you
gave it to like your sister who never played baseball, Like,
what are we doing?

Speaker 4 (11:01):
No, but a skill can be learned.

Speaker 3 (11:05):
Yes, now terrible.

Speaker 2 (11:08):
Otherwise you got a clown y athleticism. I don't play
many rotick for sticking up for his sport. I think
tennis is a top three answer. You know what most
folks will say, especially fans of the sport hockey, man,
you're skating. You're playing the endurance like what it takes

(11:28):
to be a hockey player. When you combine all the things,
the athleticism, of the toughness involved skating at that high level.
People that just skate, and that's a sport itself, just skating.

Speaker 4 (11:40):
Do that for a half hour around the holidays. Your
your legs are like jell o.

Speaker 2 (11:43):
Dude, you're leaning on the wall and on an ice
skating rink around the Christmas season for your girlfriend and
you're tired. I tried watching a miracle this weekend for real,
and I got tired of just watching it, so I
really I cut out.

Speaker 3 (11:54):
I was like, yeah, pushing these kids way too hard.
I'm tired now.

Speaker 2 (11:57):
So when it comes to athleticism, I think tennis and
hockey come to mind from me and boxing. I was
gonna say, hey, how can you leave out fighting? All
those things combined with getting punched into ribs fighting, I
mean in the nose fighting, because you don't realize how
quickly you would get guessed. That's and that's just I

(12:19):
follow this boxing. You have to have the endurance while
someone's trying to whoop your ass. If I just told you,
hit a speedbag for three minutes, take a break, hit
a speedbag for three more minutes, take a break with
no one trying to hate you.

Speaker 4 (12:33):
That's without your face bleeding and swelling.

Speaker 2 (12:36):
Up, without someone trying to hate you. I challenge someone to,
for three minutes, twelve different times in a row, hit
a speed bag with a Everyone's gonna have their argument.
How about soccer man? You just running the whole time, right,
You have to have endurance. What makes the best athlete
is going to be debatable, subjective, like Rich said, but
there are some sports that stand down amongst the others.

(12:58):
And yeah, five hours and forty minutes in the sun,
back and forth. You got one hundred and twenty mile
per hour. How fast does the surf come in? Yeah, yeah,
one hundred and twenty mile per hour surf. You've got
to return, by the way, that's the thing. But I
think it's more of a like what are other things
that are harder than they may look. Well, listen, because
that trails off into a bunch of different things because

(13:20):
you go there with this ego and confidence just because
you're a decent athlete, or you have a confidence about yourself,
and then you realize, yeah, that was not easy. I
have a few to come to mind for me, cob
I think that's tennis is a great answer. You know
who backs us up, our buddy Matt Listening in Minnesota,
he said tennis players are absolutely the best athletes in

(13:42):
the world. They're the best condition to say that to
a polo, He said, the hand eye coordination is right
up there with baseball and hockey. Take taking a punch
in the ring doesn't make you an athlete. A little
about that, he goes. He goes, I played football, baseball,
and tennis growing up, and I agree tennis took the most.
There's a specific skill involved, man, because you could be

(14:03):
a good athlete and stink at it.

Speaker 3 (14:04):
Well. That there's a there's a.

Speaker 2 (14:05):
Reason why pickleball is emerging so much, because you know
why we all like tennis and ping Pong's a fun
little basement game you had, you had in your childhood house.
But you know what, Tennis is too much for the
average adult to really do unless you're good, right, unless
you get tennis lessons. You're your country club and you're

(14:25):
the Buckstons and you're playing with the tennis pro The
average person's like, yeah, I.

Speaker 3 (14:30):
Gotta play pickleball.

Speaker 2 (14:31):
That's why pickleball emerge because it's an easier version of
a game that you can't handle.

Speaker 4 (14:36):
It's lighter, so it's less on your joints.

Speaker 2 (14:39):
Dude, it's why grown all people are getting hurtleft and Rightnny,
it's Danny. It's why grown men like me don't play
baseball anymore. You know why, because I don't know if
I You know, you hit forty and you're like, do
I want to be you know who could be pitching
eighty plus miles an hour and men's adult league, So
we all play softball, right, That's equivalent of tennis. Now

(15:00):
I'm gonna play pickle ball. It's the watered down version
of a sport that is not as easy as you think.
You gotta have a backhand in tennis, but not only that,
you can't compete without it.

Speaker 3 (15:11):
Tell me how, tell me?

Speaker 2 (15:12):
I mean you're an athletic guy Cavino, you tell me
you could serve effectively.

Speaker 3 (15:17):
No, you can get it over than that.

Speaker 2 (15:18):
But when I was playing again, when I was playing
more often, yeah, I got the hang of it.

Speaker 3 (15:23):
But you're filling your college class. Yeah my college. Just honestly,
you didn't have to do that. Like take a random
like for for your random elective credits. I took as
chasing one chasing. No, I just picture the like a serf, right, yeah,
like that whole like serving, like that whole motion like

(15:43):
you need to.

Speaker 2 (15:44):
I got two examples of things I went in ultra
confident for because I'm like, yeah, I can hold my own.

Speaker 4 (15:50):
By the way, Rich just looked like he was playing we.

Speaker 3 (15:52):
I know, yeah Rich was. Rich does not to serve
a tennis ball, can I? I mean, I I bet
you know, like, uh, you like a fitty cent throwing
the first.

Speaker 2 (16:01):
I'm just saying, it's like serving a volleyball, like you
think you could do it, and you're like, can I
really jump up?

Speaker 3 (16:08):
And you know.

Speaker 2 (16:09):
Two instances recently recently so they come right to mind
where I'm like, wow, that was way harder than I
thought it would be. A La tennis Andy Roddick saying
it requires the best athleticism. It's the hardest sport to play.
These are more skill things than anything. But for one
of our buddies' birthdays, we went ax throwing recently, and

(16:32):
I'm like, I got this. What is this some lumberjack stuff?
Get out of here. I could do this because you think, yeah,
I could figure out, dude, this is so much harder
than you think just to even get it to land.
For you, I thought like, because I feel like everything
you've been doing lately, you're proving maybe you're not as
skilled as we want. Because these they take particular skill.

(16:54):
It doesn't matter how good of an athlete you are.
That's my point. And the same thing is with tennis.
It's like if you've never played, you can't go out
there and just hack it because you're you, in your mind,
are a good athlete. Your girlfriend just told everyone a
couple months ago, you guys wanted a vacation, and you
you gave her. As the kids say, the ick like
she was sort of turned off by your lack.

Speaker 3 (17:15):
Of skill and a couple things you tried.

Speaker 2 (17:17):
Yeah and laughing, point fingers all you want, but I
want to see you do it bonehead, and you too,
Danny g You ever get on a panel board?

Speaker 4 (17:24):
No, thank you.

Speaker 2 (17:25):
You ever get like you know when to talking about
when you're standing there and you're like, yeah, all right, now,
women I think have a different different gravity center of
gravity where they're hips or using them in balance. Yeah,
but I think they're so light that it doesn't affect
the board either way.

Speaker 4 (17:40):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (17:41):
When my ass is on this thing, I feel my
knees shaking like a baby deer trying to keep my
balance on it. And I'm like, dude, I felt face
first on this thing. And my girlfriend was like, ah,
I can't believe you did that. I thought you were
like a good athlete. I'm like, I've never done this
in my life.

Speaker 3 (17:59):
Oh, keep going.

Speaker 2 (18:00):
Then I'm talking about I'm standing when you're standing on
the on the board. Women do that effortlessly, and look
I got the neck of it, dude. I fell once
in an hour, but the whole time I was like
petrified of looking like an idiot, and I.

Speaker 4 (18:16):
Was it was enough to make you a single man
right now.

Speaker 2 (18:19):
Yeah, I was concentrated really hard on just staying on
that thing. And the final thing is I was on
a vacation and my girlfriend.

Speaker 3 (18:26):
Likes to do activity.

Speaker 2 (18:28):
So the start of activities do they have and she's like,
do you want to do this archery thing?

Speaker 3 (18:35):
Like yeah, archery, let us go.

Speaker 2 (18:37):
And again I go there with all this ego and
confidence because yeah, I could hit a three point shot
if I want. Where I you know, I had twenty
seven Little League home runs. Well they be bullseye Steve, Yeah,
archery kidding me.

Speaker 3 (18:49):
I lived my whole life.

Speaker 2 (18:50):
Just you know, setting on my toys and shooting them
down target practice.

Speaker 3 (18:55):
Let's go.

Speaker 2 (18:56):
Yeah, I had a NERF bow and arrow, and dude,
I'm telling you, you think you have this hand eye
coordination if you've never done it. I was embarrassing. I
was embarrassing. I was like, this is not easy if
you've never done it before. Again, there's a skill required, so.

Speaker 3 (19:18):
I can lie.

Speaker 2 (19:19):
You didn't look I'm not saying I looked like I
was Tiger Woods. But you didn't look so hot either
at our big Cavino on Rich golf events.

Speaker 3 (19:25):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (19:25):
I wasn't really trying either, But yeah, no, there are
certain skill sets that are trickier than you think. You know, No,
it's true. I mean I hadn't swung a golf club
since I was twenty going to the golf range or something. Yeah,
since going to the golf range, I look terrible, But
I knew I was more focused on making contact than
I was swinging the club. So again, that's another very

(19:50):
particular skill sort of thing. Just because you're taking mighty
hacks up there, it doesn't mean you're any good at golf.
Oh did you see uh, speaking of which, this is interesting.
I knew i'd find this example. Did you guys all
see one of the most athletic guys of the last
twenty five years in sports trying something new and of

(20:10):
course the comments but you know, some of them were encouraging,
but others are like yo, weaker swing. Did you see
Lebron posting a video of him golfing?

Speaker 3 (20:19):
Yeah?

Speaker 4 (20:19):
I saw that.

Speaker 2 (20:19):
And we're talking about Lebron James, one of the most
dominant athletes maybe of all time. He says, they were
talking about particular he's up there at the tea. He's
more athletic than anybody. No, of course, no doubt. The
guy's a specimen, right, defying all odds of athletic genetics.

Speaker 3 (20:39):
Forty years old.

Speaker 2 (20:39):
Plain the way he is he's up at the tee
and there's just something that a swing that looked like yeah,
like you know, like you're throwing lefty or something. You know,
like there was something about it where it's like his
stroke's not there, And it just shows you that it's
such all these different sports requires such different skills that
if you're if you're a jack of all trades and
you can hang, it's a good trait. Yeah, athleticism will

(21:02):
get you by in the NFL maybe right because you're
just a great athlete. Yeah, did you little bit with
with the NBA, But you gotta still learn how to shoot.
But you could still be a great defender and they
could figure it out somehow. If it's a particular skill involved,
like tennis, baseball, golf, golf, you know, it doesn't matter
how athletic you are.

Speaker 4 (21:23):
Did you ever finish the Dale Earnhart docu saries?

Speaker 3 (21:26):
I didn't my Apple TV subscription right now.

Speaker 4 (21:31):
I like the honesty.

Speaker 3 (21:32):
I guess I'll never know.

Speaker 4 (21:33):
Race car driving, you know there's people that are like,
oh they do is left turns the whole time.

Speaker 3 (21:38):
It's that's the fear factor involved that.

Speaker 4 (21:40):
Yeah, I was gonna say, you could die at any moment.
You know, speeds you're going, the endurance it takes to
sit in that hot ass car.

Speaker 3 (21:48):
Dude, they're going around in circle. Yeah all right, and
uh yeah, I would never have.

Speaker 4 (21:53):
To have knowledge of every part of the car and
what's going on and the communication with your team and all.
There's a lot going on.

Speaker 2 (21:59):
Harder and it looks is really what it comes down to.
And I'll give tennis the credit all day for that
harder than it looks. Their skill involved, but the best
athlete is on the tennis court.

Speaker 3 (22:10):
I don't know about that.

Speaker 2 (22:11):
And I mentioned it and you you passed right over.
How about like water polo? Imagine treading water for the
entire game. I had a buddy the endurance involved. I
had a buddy that played water polo in college. And
you know how dumb I am. When I was in college,
I thought, like, I'm being honest here, you're in the
Marco Polo League, Marco stupid fish head of water. So

(22:32):
when I was when I was in college and my
buddy's like, yeah, I played water polo, I thought that
they were like touching the ground their feet. I'm like, yeah,
w'd be playing like like team handball. Speedball in the water.

Speaker 3 (22:43):
I also think they wore polo shirts. And he's like,
He's like, you know, we're treading water, right, I'm like,
whoa wha. Well.

Speaker 2 (22:48):
Rich also just realized that pickles were cucumbers, So you know,
I don't put that much stock in Let's go to
the phones.

Speaker 3 (22:53):
Let's go to a rich that might no more Michigan.
What's up, wretch?

Speaker 2 (22:57):
Hey?

Speaker 3 (22:57):
Rich?

Speaker 1 (22:58):
Hey, what's going on?

Speaker 6 (22:59):
Guys?

Speaker 3 (22:59):
What's a buddy?

Speaker 1 (23:00):
Hey?

Speaker 6 (23:01):
I got one for you that you haven't mentioned yet.

Speaker 7 (23:03):
Motocross.

Speaker 1 (23:05):
You've got you guys running full throttle, hitting the jumps,
hitting and bump swift, todos all that, and you've got
you know, fifteen twenty minutes plus your racing against other guys.

Speaker 3 (23:12):
No doubt. Man.

Speaker 2 (23:13):
Listen, I'm I think back like I thought I was impressive,
uh hopping a curb on my Uh you know your
GT performer, you know, I mean you have at.

Speaker 3 (23:24):
You kidding me?

Speaker 2 (23:24):
He had streamers like pee wee Herman. This guy had
no GT the best bike in the whole world. Donovan
and Iowa, what's up man?

Speaker 4 (23:34):
Hey?

Speaker 3 (23:35):
Donovan?

Speaker 6 (23:36):
Hey, ri take our score would be when I played
high school, I played tennis in all sports and every
and my thing though, would be wrestling, because imagine I
get in your butt beat for the whole practice and
you're just laying on the mat trying to get up.
I played tennis, and I could do that forever as

(23:56):
long as you get the ball back. I mean, you're
in your athletic You're fine.

Speaker 3 (24:00):
Can I tell you?

Speaker 2 (24:01):
I feel like I'm confident Donovan, that Covino and I
can have a pretty nice back and forth volley rally.
Right in tennis, if I start hitting your backhand, you
don't have a shot. If I start hitting it to
your backhand side, you know what I mean. But what
I mean, but I with with without sounding sexist. Oh boy,
here comes drum roll. Guys, anytime you set up a

(24:22):
sentence like that, something I'd like to alert all the affiliates,
say no offense while you're at it, not to sound sexist,
no offense. Has anyone tried to, like on a resort
play tennis with like their wife or girlfriend and like
you're like, can.

Speaker 3 (24:36):
We volley more than once or twice over the net?
Jesus Christ, like Martina never Toilovin's okay.

Speaker 2 (24:45):
Maybe it's just guys till but I'm just saying, like
that was takes to play tennis. Rich, Yeah, I can
hit the ball over sure, but that Zach in Montana?

Speaker 3 (24:55):
What's Upboddy?

Speaker 2 (24:57):
By the way, Rich said that respectfully, just so you
do you have a disclaimer.

Speaker 3 (25:01):
We could put yeah better, Yeah, what's up Montana?

Speaker 7 (25:05):
Uh, you know skateboarding, snowboarding, we do that quite a bit.
And so I can go to the ocean and surf, uh,
because I can stand up on the board. But hey,
swimming is for a guy here. Swimming is hard. And
that's kind of like a nod out to athletes that
do things like Tim Duncan. He was a good athlete
for a long time because he swam a lot.

Speaker 4 (25:27):
So yeah, yeah, surfing should be on the list.

Speaker 2 (25:30):
You know, it's interesting he would he would say, uh, swimming, right,
because that's one of those things that you might be
able to do. I'm going to compare swimming real quick
to boxing. You could put on boxing gloves and goofing around,
hit a boxing hit a you know, hit a speed
bag or heavy bag for a minute, right, and then
be like, yeah, I could box, and you can do

(25:52):
it for a minute, and you realize that's nothing like boxing.
If you jump in your pool, the community, pull at
the y or something. You swim one land, You're like,
y'all could swim? Can you swim?

Speaker 3 (26:02):
Like?

Speaker 2 (26:03):
Swimming is like fast back and forth, multiple laps like
yeah you can stay a yeah you can, you can
stay afloat anyway, We'll take your feedback harder than it looks.
Plus we'll get into some NFL some pre season rankings. Yes,
we have lots more. Cavino and rich In for Dan Patrick.

Thank you Rapid Radios Again. The numbers eight seven, seven
ninety nine on Fox next dour just so you know,
we're playing last one standing, the game that sweeping the
nation lot harder than it sounds, harder than it looks,
much like what we do here as radio tycoons. Everybody

(27:58):
thinks they could do what we do. Proof everyone's a
podcaster from their bedroom.

Speaker 3 (28:03):
True story.

Speaker 2 (28:04):
But it's harder than it looks. Kind of like tennis.
To wrap it up, I want to play with Andy Rotics.
It's harder than it looks. And the proof is in
i'd say the pudding, but the proof is in go
online and see how easy it is to get used
podcast equipment.

Speaker 3 (28:19):
Because people do it.

Speaker 2 (28:21):
They try to be a you know, they try to
do their own podcast and then quickly realize, oh, and
then they sell the equipment.

Speaker 3 (28:28):
I'm just trying to make it look like what we
do is impressive. It's really not.

Speaker 2 (28:31):
Really. Andy Ronnick was talking about the athleticism and superiority
involved in playing tennis.

Speaker 5 (28:40):
I think tennis players are the best athletes in the
world five hours and forty something minutes on the biggest stages.
You compare this to other sports. An NBA game is
forty eight minutes played in air conditioning, where you have teammates,
halftime timeouts. To say one thing doesn't mean you're throwing
shade at someone else. I'm celebrating and applauding one set
of athletes. It's the most complete examination of an athlete

(29:00):
that I can think of. You know, we used to
get viewed as like, oh, your soft, like country club sport.
I don't know that that narrative exists. I don't know
how you can watch and not say the athleticism on
display is otherworldly. I think tennis players are the best
athletes in the world. The more I watch it, the
more I think it tell me why I'm.

Speaker 2 (29:19):
Wrong, you know what. I respect it, the more I
hear it. Good for him he's defending it. I like
what he said, but I will debate it. I like
the stigma that it has of some sort of country
club soft sport though, and thank the movies for that.
It's always like these rich douche nozzles that are portrayed

(29:39):
playing tennis, right. I mean, it is a quote country
club sport, but it's also very tough, which is why
all those rich people have tennis lessons. But again, to
wrap it up, I think it's more of the skill
that's involved that makes it tough as opposed to I
don't know, fighting, like I said, is probably more difficult
tennis up there, though. I just think it's one of

(30:01):
those things that are harder than they look. I just
feel like someone's wife is always sleeping with the tennis pro. Right,
that's the reputation. What are your thoughts? Hit us up
at Covino and Rich tell Roddick, tell us why you
agree or disagree? I wanted to bring up something before
we move on to the NFL, before we play a

(30:22):
little last one standing give away some prizes here. Gonna
talk to Joey Chestnut next hour. That is big victory
over the Fourth of July weekend. I just saw that.
I believe I'm only finding three names of people that
have already confirmed that they're in the home run Derby?
Am I wrong about saying? I saw Akunya Junior, cal

(30:42):
Raley and James Wood. James Woods rally was the big announcement.
I don't know who else is involved yet.

Speaker 3 (30:49):
I know that Schwarber and Pete A.

Speaker 2 (30:52):
Lonzo have both declined, same with Judge and Otani. And
I still think the derby's great no matter what, we're
gonna be there.

Speaker 4 (31:02):
You have only three confirms.

Speaker 2 (31:04):
But is there a responsibility, especially with baseball being so
hot right now? Like we are big baseball fans, so
we're always gonna be a little biased. But I feel
like with the stars of the game, the sho Heyo Tanis,
the Aaron Judges, the Lindor's and the cal Rawley's and
the Bryce Harper's and the Tattoos juniors and the Scoopals

(31:26):
and schemes, and baseball is in a moment right now
where all these young stars are representing. It's like the
eighties where every team had the guy you knew how
who was their starting lineup.

Speaker 3 (31:37):
Figure.

Speaker 2 (31:38):
Baseball's hot right now. I think it's a bad time
for these stars to be sitting out the Derby. I
feel like baseball could kick every other sport in the
nuts right now if they were like, you know what,
we're gonna do our star stuff. We're gonna do our
Derby and guess who's in it Otani, Judge Alonso. You know,
I won't debate that, but I do completely understand why
they shy away from it.

Speaker 3 (31:57):
It messes up people's swing, y'all.

Speaker 2 (31:59):
Bobby is happened multiple times, but I call it the
old Bobby of Bray You because he went in there
having a season, came out like he forgot how to
swing because he got some bad habits for himed for
taking monster hats. But I mean, did some of the
great moments with Robbie Cano and his dad and.

Speaker 3 (32:16):
The mirfielder, Prince and Cecil celebrated together. There's been great
moments for the Derby, and I'm sure this year great.
This year is gonna be great to listen. Cal Raley,
Acuna Junior, James Woods are just three of the names,
and those are three stars. I'm just saying, if you
told me the home run Derby was show, Hey, Judge Schwarber,

(32:37):
Pete Alonzo, cal Rowley, like if you.

Speaker 2 (32:40):
And Acunya Junior because he's a hometown guy. If you
told me that, I'd be like, oh my god, throwing
Bryce Harper.

Speaker 4 (32:45):
As well last year's winner to Oscar her name.

Speaker 3 (32:48):
And ta Oscar throw in.

Speaker 2 (32:52):
You know that was gonna end up doing it. A
guy like Jazz Chisholm because he's he can hit bombs
and he's just pumped to be there, so it can
be like, hey, Jazz, why don't you join?

Speaker 3 (33:00):
But I don't look at Jazz's same exactly.

Speaker 2 (33:02):
That's what makes it a little more underwhelming than it
should be. But still, but we come back every time
and we say that it's the most underrated sporting event.

Speaker 3 (33:13):
Yeah that we go to. It's so much fun.

Speaker 2 (33:16):
I don't know if you enjoy it on TV, but
they're just hitting bombs and to be there is electric.

Speaker 3 (33:22):
It's so much fun when you're there.

Speaker 2 (33:24):
I have a role here, how about you should have
to be top ten in the category. Yeah.

Speaker 3 (33:32):
I think they should set some rules and parameters there.

Speaker 2 (33:34):
Yeah, because otherwise you're like, why am I caring about
this guy hitting home runs? Not even a home run hitter.
Now listen, James Ufto. I mean this is the criticism
that the NBA James James Wood twenty three homers. So
he belongs there. And you know what, Akunya Junior not
in your league leaders, but he's the hometown guy. And
of course cal Rawley leading the league with thirty five,

(33:55):
but judge Otani Schwerber, PA with up cut Crow Armstrong,
get him in there. I just feel like there's an
opportunity for baseball. Like I said, you really want to
take a chance to to show Hay and judge the
faces of baseball plan oblique or something stupid because they're
doing this contest or that's why it doesn't happen.

Speaker 3 (34:14):
They're too valuable.

Speaker 2 (34:15):
I know, I'm just saying, like baseball, I still think
it's a great thing, not just because we're going there,
but I do. But again, we're talking about how we
undermine the athleticism in tennis. I think we underestimate the
endurance involved and potential injury involved in just taking hack
after hack after hack after hack. But because I like

(34:36):
baseball more than basketball, I can't talk out of both
sides of my mouth. I can't play like I'm not
Terry fad or I or I can't talk out of
both sides of my mouth. I can, on one hand
be like Derby's great no matter what, because it is.
But what's the biggest criticism of the NBA Slam Dunk Contest,
the three point shootout, all these things? It's like, well,

(34:56):
where's the where's the stars? Mac mccle give me.

Speaker 3 (35:00):
A freaking break you want to start?

Speaker 2 (35:02):
So if we're gonna criticize, that's why I give Pete
a lonzo lots of promise. He did every isn't back
off on it. Well this year He's like, yeah, I'm
just not gonna do it this year. So I can't
get hard on polar Bear Pete because he's done it
many times.

Speaker 3 (35:16):
Yeah, he's not scared of the moment. Yeah.

Speaker 2 (35:18):
I think there's also it's not just the risk. I
think there's a lot of pressure on these dudes and
it's just not worth.

Speaker 3 (35:24):
It for him.

Speaker 2 (35:25):
Liking Aaron Judge, he's like, Yeah, everyone's expecting me to win,
and that's not necessarily Maybe, uh, I know what you're saying.

Speaker 3 (35:31):
How you're saying.

Speaker 2 (35:32):
You're saying if Judge, you're saying, if he hits like
like eleven home runs and he's out in the first round,
it's like Aaron Jodge was out in the first loser,
it ruins the mystique, right, So maybe there is more mistique.
But again, I think the Derby's great. No matter well,
because these guys are all hitting bombs. I'm just thinking
baseball at its height right now, which I feel like

(35:53):
baseball ratings are up, numbers are up, attendancies up. Man,
they really could put an exclamation point if they said
the Derby has Judge Orotani or both. Maybe you bring
back some old retired stars just to seem hit some
bum if Barry Bonds could get back, all right, well
we got more convene on rich Andseko get out there.
Imagine Jose he says he could hit a softball farther

(36:16):
than Judge could hit a baseball.

Speaker 3 (36:17):
I' you've seen that, so.

Speaker 2 (36:18):
You don't get him in there. We got more convine
on rich In for Dan Patrick.

Speaker 1 (36:22):
Next, be sure to catch the live edition of The
Dan Patrick Show weekdays at nine am Eastern six am
Pacific on Fox Sports Radio and the iHeartRadio WAP.

Speaker 2 (36:32):
We saw the reunion over the weekend, social media buzzing
about it. Still Ozzy Osbourne's farewell actually hosted in studio
from Ozzie's boneyard, Serious XM Channel thirty eight, tossing it
to Birmingham, England for the live coverage. It was a
huge event. This is Sabra Cadabra, Iowa Sam on the

(36:56):
ones and twos. But farewell to Ozzy performing. He's still alive, guys,
and he rocked it, by the way, rocked it in
his throne.

Speaker 3 (37:06):
Yeah, he did a great job.

Speaker 4 (37:07):
Man.

Speaker 2 (37:07):
It was really cool to see, very emotional too when
he did my mom coming home and all the other stuff.
But anyway, I hope you had a nice weekend, holiday
weekend again Ozzie's final performance. Some great games and remember
our show is speaking of great games. Our show's broadcasting
live from the MLB All Star Game Atlanta, the ultimate
baseball hot spot. You'd be part of the excitement at
Capitol One All Star Village Saturday, July twelfth through Tuesday.

Speaker 3 (37:30):
The fifteenth, will be out there.

Speaker 2 (37:32):
Head to the Cobb Galleria for Baseball fun, live entertainment
and interactive games by tickets today all Star game dot com.
So we're here today and tomorrow, and we were here
on Friday for Dan Patrick. But we're in today. Was
it Thursday? That's right, and we're going to be there
for the All Star break. Super pumped about that. While

(37:54):
you were watching the met Yankees over the weekend, I
was watching that as well as you were watching hot
Dog Eating Joey Chestnut.

Speaker 3 (38:01):
While you were watching I was eating hot dogs, enjoying it.
I finally watched your pal p W. Herman. I thought
it was good.

Speaker 2 (38:11):
The Paul Rubins documentary Rest in Peace Long me as Himself.
It's called on HBO Max. It was really awesome to
see that story.

Speaker 3 (38:22):
Say, like, you forget that pee wee.

Speaker 2 (38:26):
What ended up becoming Pea's Playhouse that we all watch
as kids on Saturday morning. Yeah, I you know, I
don't know if a lot of people realize that started
out as like a late night Groundlings type of improv thing.
It was an HBO show actually never necessarily designed for kids.
It was more of like you know, improv stick I
think you just realized that. I think most people alive

(38:48):
remember that it was an HBO special. It was for
adults that ended up being for kids and adults.

Speaker 3 (38:56):
It was sad.

Speaker 2 (38:58):
I thought a good documentary, though, I forget what you realized.
Uh you know, here's a man who did you go
see Jurassic World can never be himself Jurassic World?

Speaker 3 (39:06):
I did not.

Speaker 2 (39:07):
I'm guessing that was number one. Did you watch Lol?
Did you finish Squid Game?

Speaker 3 (39:11):
I did?

Speaker 2 (39:12):
I did finish Swid Game? And eh, well, how about
this show our show again. We're lying from the Fox
Sports Radio studio. After the show, the DPT podcast goes
on the stream. It goes up, and if you miss
any of the show ever, be sure to listen to
the podcast. Search Covino and Rich wherever you get your podcast.
Be sure to follow, rate and review, give us five

(39:33):
stars and you qualify for a prize. We appreciate it.
And before we move on, I have one last bone
to pick with you, Rich. Never let your buddy make
plans for you. Because today we're filling in for Dan Patrick.
It's early for us because we're not into this routine.
So we wake up at like five am.

Speaker 3 (39:51):
We're not.

Speaker 2 (39:54):
Again used to this schedule, even though we love it,
not complaining just to Spain and no, no, no, no,
hold on, hear me out. And Rich made plans to
hang out with like a buddy visiting later on.

Speaker 3 (40:03):
I'm not going. What do you mean? You're the guy
that I never made the plan. He's the guy that
made the problem. Look back at the text message. It
was something you did.

Speaker 2 (40:12):
This guy's like, yeah, well when you're in town, And
meanwhile our buddies like, yeah, looking forward to hanging You
think that's the last thing I want to do later?
You know what, I want to put my feet up
and get ready for tomorrow's show.

Speaker 3 (40:24):
Guess what this guy, you're going by yourself?

Speaker 2 (40:27):
Then, No, you're the guy that said before we get
to NFL, answer this question.

Speaker 3 (40:33):
Answer this question sucks for you.

Speaker 2 (40:35):
I no, it doesn't suck for me anyway, we have
a buddy. Yeah, sucks even more when your buddy's backing
out last minute. No, no, we have a buddy visiting.
When someone says when you're in town, hit me up,
that doesn't mean like, yeah, well, well he hit us
up with looking forward to seeing you tonight, And I'm like,
oh no, that sounds like an actual plan was made.

Speaker 3 (40:55):
Yeah, I know, so I would reread.

Speaker 2 (40:57):
You can find a text message for me confirming this,
then then I'll go because I know I did not
say that. Can I pull a Pete Alonso and say,
you know, I've never really enjoyed the date. The night's out,
so I just want to be my best possible host tomorrow.
Because that's why he's sitting out of the All Star Game.
He says, I never really enjoyed the three days off,

(41:20):
so I just want to be in the best possible
position to help this team win in the second half.
Can I tell her, buddy, I just want to sit
it out tonight to bring my best tomorrow. So sitting
at the derby, you're sitting out the game, Alonzo, sitting
at the derby, Okay, yeah, okay, yeah, yeah, not the game.

Speaker 3 (41:35):
Okay. I just want to make sure no fair enough.

Speaker 4 (41:38):
He's not that weak.

Speaker 2 (41:39):
But I want to sit it out tonight, man, so
I could bring our best to our third DP show
of the week.

Speaker 3 (41:44):
We're gonna get to.

Speaker 2 (41:46):
Joey Chestnutt coming up on the show in a few minutes,
a little post Hot Dog recap with that guy. We're
gonna talk NFL Week one, which is less than two
months away. But if you make plans with someone casually, I.

Speaker 3 (41:59):
Just got to say it.

Speaker 2 (42:00):
If someone's like, yeah, yeah, when you're in town, hit
me up, that doesn't mean they can say see you tonight.
That's exactly what's happening as we speak. And I don't want
to strangle somebody. I just don't know who.

Speaker 3 (42:10):
Claiming the wrong guy because I won't be there.

Speaker 2 (42:12):
Okay, see Hey, we'll be back in a few with
Joey Chestnut in for the Great Dan Patrick right here
on Fox Sports Radio.

Speaker 3 (42:19):
Caive, you know on Rich a show that's not going
out tonight
