Daniel Jeremiah, former NFL scout now an analyst for NFL Network.
He's been bouncing around a couple of camps, so we'll
get his thoughts on the upcoming season. Eight seven seven
(00:46):
to three DP Show email address Dpatdanpatrick dot com, Twitter
handle a dpshow and operator Tyler sitting by. He'll take
your phone calls.
Speaker 3 (00:54):
Some of the headlines.
Speaker 2 (00:56):
Ryan Sandberg Rhino passes away at the age of sixty five.
The Cubs great Hall of Fame second baseman Dion Sanders
discusses his cancer diagnosis bladder cancer, and he sounded energetic.
He sounded good yesterday at his press conference.
Speaker 4 (01:14):
I always know I was going to coach again. I
never didn't realize I was going to coach again. I
was always going to coach. It was never in my spirit,
in my heart that God wouldn't allow me to coach again.
Speaker 3 (01:27):
Never thought like that.
Speaker 2 (01:29):
All right, I have the over under win total, although
Dion's already won. But as far as his team, the
over under from DraftKings on Colorado regular season win total
over under five and.
Speaker 3 (01:43):
A half for Dion.
Speaker 2 (01:46):
So no Shador, no Travis. There was the story yesterday,
maybe the day before, and I think the Mothership was
at Jacksonville camp and Travis Hunter was with the d
defense and then he left the defense and walked over
and he wanted to get party.
Speaker 3 (02:05):
He wanted to take part with the offense.
Speaker 2 (02:08):
He asked if he could take part with the offense,
and he said no, not right now. It's one of
those stories that has been underplayed a lot. Shadoor Sanders
has gotten more attention than a guy who is doing
something that hasn't been done since what Chuck beden Erik
when he played both ways back in the what fifties
(02:29):
and sixties for the Eagles. I mean, this is really
unheard of. Now you've had Dion played offense and defense,
a little bit of offense, but for the most part,
Travis Hunter has kind of flown under the radarm. Now
he's with Jacksonville. Yeah, you win the Heisman, it's a
big deal. Shadoor Sanders has got more attention just because
(02:50):
of his name. I don't even know if he's going
to play this year. I don't know how much you'll play. Now.
Speaker 3 (02:55):
Do I think he'll start a game? At least?
Speaker 2 (02:58):
Yes, I do, but I have his Hunter is doing
something remarkable.
Speaker 5 (03:04):
Now.
Speaker 2 (03:05):
There's a former player who told me this, and he
played wide receiver. He didn't want to attach his name
to it. And he said, because I said, you know what,
how would you deal with Travis Hunter? And he said,
I would make sure that offensively we worked him so
when he played offense he's tired, like I, he's going
(03:29):
to play defense, and he's going to be playing most
of the plays on defense. But when he is covering
me or a teammate, like, we're going in his direction
because it's now granted he might be great, but we
want to go we want to make sure that he's
not going to hurt us on both sides of the ball.
And although I don't want to go there where he
(03:51):
is and challenge him, but I do want him in
the play to make sure that I'm going to have
him not as explosive on the offensive side of the ball.
Speaker 3 (04:01):
I said, Oh, okay, I wouldn't have.
Speaker 2 (04:04):
Seen it that way, but he said, if he's going
to play both ways, let's say he plays thirty percent
of the offensive plays. We want to make sure that
when he goes and he's going to get ready to
go out for a pass, that you know we we've
already worked him a little bit, be physical with him,
(04:24):
and you know that that might be a way to
kind of curb how impactful he can be on both
sides of the ball. All right, Seaton Poll question for
the final hour of the program is.
Speaker 6 (04:36):
What, yeah, right now we've got up there, would you
rather have two hundred and fifty K or be completely jacked?
Speaker 3 (04:42):
Is the saying, Okay, Todd used to be jacked.
Speaker 7 (04:45):
He is, I missed those days, and therefore I would
take big jacked over the quarter of a million dollars.
Speaker 5 (04:52):
Oh, I'm big, honest.
Speaker 2 (04:54):
Yeah, So if I had two hundred and fifty thousand
dollars where he could magically transform you to when you
look like a steroid.
Speaker 3 (05:01):
Mark Ruffalo.
Speaker 7 (05:02):
It was nice to be checked out and be accused
of at the gym of taking steroids. And you get
a little whistle or an extra look from a girl,
or someone honks their horn as they're driving by.
Speaker 3 (05:11):
Wait, girls whistled at you.
Speaker 7 (05:13):
There's a couple of little you know, there was a
couple of honks and winks and uh, maybe whistle.
Speaker 5 (05:17):
I might have exaggerated that a little bit.
Speaker 7 (05:19):
But there were times when you know you're walking around
the neighborhood or you leave the gym and you're all
shiny from sweat from a good pump, and you know
you're being you know, out of the corner of some
people's eyes, or at least you think that someone's checking
you out and was impressed with your physical You could
do that now, not a much much lower level.
Speaker 5 (05:35):
Maybe I lost forty pounds.
Speaker 3 (05:38):
But you could. You could do it.
Speaker 7 (05:40):
I could, But it's a lot easier when you're a
teenager and you know you're not married with kids. Not
to make excuses, but you have more responsibilities and you
can't just spend your life at the gym, and.
Speaker 3 (05:48):
That's the problem.
Speaker 6 (05:49):
You're busy schedule, Yeah, yeah, what is that schedule?
Speaker 3 (05:53):
So there's no kids at home?
Speaker 8 (05:54):
Right?
Speaker 9 (05:55):
Was watching Jeopardy and Will Fortune and day long.
Speaker 2 (05:58):
You you didn't have the kids like physically, like you
didn't deliver it, not just letting you know that's true.
Speaker 3 (06:05):
And they're not homean anymore.
Speaker 7 (06:06):
Yeah, there's no excuse other than that. Uh, you know,
metabolism issues and liking to eat a snack late at
nights and not working out the way I used.
Speaker 5 (06:14):
To work out.
Speaker 3 (06:15):
All those are choices. Yeah, there's the choices.
Speaker 5 (06:17):
But I think that's fifty fifty fifty seven.
Speaker 3 (06:20):
What about two hundred and fifty k? Or you're jacked.
Speaker 6 (06:24):
I'm taking the two hundred and fifty k, all right,
more close, Marvin, two hundred and fifty k, yeah, Paul,
two fifty K.
Speaker 3 (06:33):
I could work out more, yeah, fifty Yeah, I don't
care if I'm jacked.
Speaker 6 (06:38):
Yeah, I'm like three months away. Give me three months
and I could be in pretty good shape. I don't
even know where I would find two hundred fifty thousand dollars.
Speaker 3 (06:45):
What could you be jacked? Though?
Speaker 6 (06:48):
As jacked as this frame would allow me Yeah, yeah,
I could do that.
Speaker 10 (06:52):
Yeah.
Speaker 11 (06:53):
Yeah, It's tough though at a certain age to put
in that many hours of the gym to get jacked
in shape and Jack are really.
Speaker 3 (07:01):
Now and I don't want to be Jack. What is
the line?
Speaker 10 (07:03):
Then?
Speaker 6 (07:03):
I'm not exactly a bodybuilder? So what is the threshold
for then one becomes then Jack?
Speaker 11 (07:08):
I would say, more so the hours you put in
that you have in the day.
Speaker 5 (07:12):
Okay?
Speaker 3 (07:12):
Would you rather look like Tom Brady's body lean?
Speaker 5 (07:16):
Jack?
Speaker 2 (07:16):
Lean? Or two hundred and fifty k? You look good
on a yacht with your shirt off? Yes, Marvin, two.
Speaker 9 (07:27):
Hundred fifty K. I could look like Tom Brady by
Notre Dame game?
Speaker 3 (07:30):
You good? Will?
Speaker 12 (07:33):
You did?
Speaker 3 (07:36):
I just what are you saying?
Speaker 2 (07:38):
You're gonna look like Tom Brady by.
Speaker 3 (07:41):
The Notre Dame USC game?
Speaker 13 (07:43):
Like?
Speaker 5 (07:43):
Lean?
Speaker 3 (07:44):
Yeah?
Speaker 9 (07:45):
Our shape?
Speaker 3 (07:46):
I'm in Okay? Good?
Speaker 5 (07:48):
All right?
Speaker 3 (07:49):
I'm rooting for.
Speaker 9 (07:50):
You October what fifteenth?
Speaker 5 (07:51):
All right?
Speaker 7 (07:52):
Yes, Todd, is this also one of those deals with
the devil? Because then you could all of a sudden
magically make me Jack. But then if I have to
maintain that, unless that's part of the deal, that you'll
forever look like that instead of a matter of weeks
or months.
Speaker 3 (08:02):
How do you find the negative because you can wait.
Speaker 7 (08:06):
Your wine that I look like that, and then I
just let it go to crap and I could have
had a quarter million dollars.
Speaker 3 (08:11):
Okay, because I haven't work out hard. How about this,
You're permanently jacked the rest of that.
Speaker 2 (08:15):
I'll take the jacks Okay, yes, yes, okay.
Speaker 6 (08:19):
What if we figured out Marvin just throughout the Notre
Dame game. We could even go one further than that
to the uh. I think in November, perhaps a Las
Vegas situation. Okay, that gives us another little bit of
a little time frame there. So that would give us
essentially August, September, October, and then whatever is left of November. Right,
(08:40):
sales is in the building today. What if we can
sell some type of competition amongst the group here of
is it a body fat percentage that we lose? Is
it a what's the way to not everybody has a
threshold of weight to lose? How do you balance that
(09:00):
out to then say this would be the winner? We're
calling it the jacked off.
Speaker 3 (09:06):
The jacked off brought to you by.
Speaker 5 (09:09):
What kinds of sponsorship?
Speaker 6 (09:10):
Yeah, Planet Fitness, the Dan Patrick Show jacked off.
Speaker 5 (09:17):
No doubt, am I not included?
Speaker 3 (09:22):
Yeah, we can look at the we can I think
we can. Yeah, I think we can.
Speaker 6 (09:25):
Look into that heading right into the new year, where everybody,
you know, once January first hit, everybody's trying to get
in shape.
Speaker 3 (09:32):
We're already shredded. Screw you guys.
Speaker 2 (09:34):
Okay, Yeah, we can talk to sales today.
Speaker 3 (09:40):
We're having lunch with them. They are. Yeah, I'll let
you bring up the title of the sponsor.
Speaker 7 (09:46):
That winter Body when you have you're covered in all
those layers whereybody can check out your six man.
Speaker 3 (09:52):
Thank you to Eric in Atlanta. Hi Eric, what's on
your mind today? Hey Dan?
Speaker 12 (10:00):
You guys were talking music earlier and the band Jethrow
Toll came up and had a little question for Todd
wonder if he had ever heard of Jenna Tolls.
Speaker 3 (10:09):
Thank you, Thank you Eric. Have you heard of that band, Todd?
Speaker 5 (10:16):
I have not. Actually I would check them out.
Speaker 3 (10:18):
Though I think you do.
Speaker 5 (10:23):
Guilty is charge?
Speaker 3 (10:24):
Tim in Ohio, Hi Tim, Hey.
Speaker 14 (10:28):
Dan, thanks for taking my call. Yeah.
Speaker 15 (10:31):
I just want to start out by saying I love
Todd so much, but today has been just a prime
example of the duality of Todd. I started out totally
on Todd's side. He always gets berated. I always feel
a little bad for him. But then he started with
the Beatles takes, and uh yeah, it's just been tough.
(10:52):
But my only criticism that I want to point out
is Todd keeps referencing the Beatles first record whenever he
talked about their lyrics. Meanwhile, Billy Joel's best song is
a song about a guy singing a song, so playing
a song. But yeah, I love you guys, thanks for
taking my call, all right.
Speaker 3 (11:10):
Thank you, Tim.
Speaker 2 (11:12):
Yeah, the lyrics with the Beatles, they certainly evolved in
their music evolved too, so just saying that, and then
they did so quickly. Dominica in Charlotte, hopefully I've got
that name right, Dominica.
Speaker 13 (11:28):
Yes you did get a CORRECTO afternoon, gentlemen, listen to me.
Thank you Todd. Someone had to say it. Okay, I
get the first wave of the euro thing and all
of that, but the Beatles are so overrated. I'll take
the rolling stones of the Beatles any day of the week.
Speaker 16 (11:45):
I couldn't the boys and the way they sing, and.
Speaker 13 (11:49):
I you know, I just love dude, I just I
can I can never get into it, and I'm honestly trying.
I can't get into it.
Speaker 3 (12:02):
Okay, how old are you?
Speaker 13 (12:05):
I'm a genexer. I I'm not completely glib when it
comes to rock and roll.
Speaker 2 (12:11):
Okay, but are you taking Billy Joel and Hall and
Oates over the Beatles as well?
Speaker 14 (12:15):
Oh?
Speaker 13 (12:16):
Oh, absolute freakolutely I'll take I'll take Fleetwood mac o
Over over the Beatles.
Speaker 3 (12:24):
Okay.
Speaker 2 (12:24):
So the age has something to do with this, not
really experiencing what Beatlemania was. And yeah, I mean they
made headlines, they were they were the biggest band in
the world by far, for you know, quite some time.
Even after they were done, they were still the biggest band.
But I appreciate the opinion and the enthusiasm, and you've
(12:47):
got a big fan in Fritzi there, So thank you.
Speaker 3 (12:50):
Dominica.
Speaker 6 (12:51):
Yes, I think Dominican called in once before. She might
be a voiceover artist. Sounds like she's a strong voice, used.
Speaker 2 (12:57):
That voice, yeah, yeah, kind of felt like she was
trying to out voice me a little bit there and did.
Speaker 3 (13:03):
Pretty well, just saying she.
Speaker 6 (13:07):
Was bringing heat.
Speaker 2 (13:08):
Yeah, but then she was mocking their voices. You know, hey,
you showing a range of what she can do with all.
Speaker 3 (13:16):
Right, Yeah, Todd's Todd's gotta an admirer.
Speaker 7 (13:20):
There is it possible that it's one of those you
had to be there groups, the Beatles, like I could
have got swept away. I guess in the sixties with this,
who are these new people that just got off the
plane from Europe and they're out in their hairdoes and
they're a different kind of music, Maybe I would have
got it.
Speaker 2 (13:33):
I wasn't alive, you know, when Elvis first came onto
the scene.
Speaker 5 (13:37):
I wasn't the Fernando Mania. I was like a little kid.
I was like, whoa Fernando Madia? Beatle Mania? Not so much.
Speaker 3 (13:45):
I can't help you like I can't, you know.
Speaker 2 (13:48):
That's that's where there's no reason to argue this. I
truly can't help you understand great music.
Speaker 3 (13:56):
I can't. I've tried.
Speaker 5 (13:58):
Well, I'm tone deaf and I don't know rhyme.
Speaker 2 (14:00):
So you got to well those things you're right, you are.
You can't stay on pitch, you don't stay on time. Yeah,
there a little tone deaf.
Speaker 5 (14:09):
That being said, the Beatles are very over it.
Speaker 2 (14:12):
Well, they might be overrated because they're they're so magnanimous
that yes, maybe they don't live up to everything that
you would think or they should or you know, how
they're you know, hailed.
Speaker 7 (14:25):
And different than unique doesn't always mean great. It just
means different than unique, doesn't You know? You're not all
of a sudden amazing because you're doing something or sounding
different than we're used to. It doesn't make it great,
just makes it different.
Speaker 2 (14:35):
They gave us a sound, and then they added onto
the sound, over and over and over. What music, what instruments,
how they recorded. They didn't go on the road. They
just did studio albums. We'll talk about them more than
(14:56):
any other artist for the rest of our line.
Speaker 5 (15:00):
Just we think we're supposed to.
Speaker 6 (15:02):
They've kind of been forced to do it, were pressured
into saying the Beatles are the best.
Speaker 7 (15:06):
But well, think I don't understand music or appreciate you.
Speaker 5 (15:10):
That's how people.
Speaker 1 (15:11):
You do.
Speaker 2 (15:12):
You realize how many songs Springsteen's written. Do you realize
how many different types of music he's written.
Speaker 7 (15:18):
I'm not talking about that that's gone to one hundred
and thirty eight Boss concert.
Speaker 3 (15:21):
He's toured the world.
Speaker 2 (15:24):
He what he's there, It's unfathomable what he's done.
Speaker 5 (15:28):
Let's target the world.
Speaker 7 (15:29):
Be like, give the shout out to the pilots that
flew them all over the world.
Speaker 5 (15:32):
They just get credit to anyone can.
Speaker 3 (15:33):
Fly a demand for it.
Speaker 5 (15:36):
That's because there are people.
Speaker 3 (15:37):
They don't just fly there. They have to show up
when you get there.
Speaker 5 (15:40):
I have to like Bruce.
Speaker 7 (15:41):
Springs and everyone else does. I guess I'm supposed to
like them. Let's go to Bruce Brigsley concert. Everyone else
seems to be going. That's what happens, and have people
become followers.
Speaker 3 (15:49):
Paul and Oes can't even stay together.
Speaker 5 (15:51):
Yeah, that's the little thing.
Speaker 3 (15:51):
Oats Haul hates Oats.
Speaker 5 (15:53):
Now you're now you're hurting my fet Okay, you're deep.
Speaker 2 (15:56):
Here, Yeah yeah. Billy Joel hadn't written a good song
long in thirty years. You're getting way through personally, any song.
Speaker 5 (16:04):
Uncalled for.
Speaker 3 (16:05):
He's been divorced three times.
Speaker 5 (16:07):
Oh, come on, it's got nothing to do with.
Speaker 3 (16:11):
You may be wrong, you may be right.
Speaker 5 (16:13):
Married a supermodel. Give him a couple of points. Didn't
laugh very long.
Speaker 2 (16:16):
But it's every musician he goes out with a supermodel.
Speaker 5 (16:20):
Because they're so handsome.
Speaker 2 (16:25):
Okay, you're gonna take a break. I'm gonna talk to
some football coming up here. Man, what a wild show.
I can't quit. I can't leave this show, but I will.
We'll take a break. We're back after this.
Speaker 1 (16:41):

Speaker 5 (17:13):
Well, you know what it's called over promise.

a little harder. It's gonna be the best after show
podcast of all time. There you go, Over Promising, and
remember you could see it on YouTube, but definitely join us.
Listen Over Promised with Cavino and Rich on the iHeartRadio app,
Apple Podcasts or wherever you get your podcasts.
Speaker 2 (17:54):
I was walking by and I saw on one of
the monitors the Mothership was asking the question, is Baker
Mayfield a top five NFC quarterback? Now I'm not big
on list rankings like that, but then I said to PAULI,
I said, do you agree Baker Mayfield top five quarterback NFC?
I said, would you take him over Jordan Love? You
(18:15):
said yeah? Would you take him over Dak Prescott?
Speaker 3 (18:19):
No doubt.
Speaker 11 (18:19):
Okay, Baker's last two seasons forty one touchdowns and sixteen
picks last year forty you know, would you take him
over Jared golf oh Man No, would you take him
over Jalen Hurts No? Would you take him over Matthew
Stafford yes? Because of injury Okay, Baker's reliable right now.
(18:44):
It's like he's at the point of career where we
know what he is. I think he's twenty nine, all
cleaned up.
Speaker 2 (18:50):
Daniel Jeremiah, NFL network analyst and co host Moved the
Sticks podcast. He is a Chargers radio color analyst, former
NFL's count and he's at the Chargers camp today and
was recently at the Titans camp. Inside the NFL Networks
training camp coverage continues today starting at New Eastern.
Speaker 3 (19:12):
Let me start there. Daniel H. Baker Mayfield top five
NFC quarterback.
Speaker 14 (19:18):
Well, first of all, Dan, I think this is when
you know the off season, you know, was too long,
when it's like we've narrowed the list. Mayfield, is he
a top three former Oklahoma quarterback who's played in the
last fifteen years. But golly, I'm having a run through
all wait, who is all in this? In this discussion?
I agree with every all the comps that were just
made except Stafford. I would they were in the same
(19:40):
building at the same time, not long ago. And you know,
to me, I know Stafford has heard that time. But
Stafford to me is just he's more talented. So uh,
even at this stage in his career. But yeah, he
belongs up there in that in the NFC, but obviously
the the greater point, Dan, it's just how lopsided the
league is. Now stack him up with the AFC and
that's a long list on that side.
Speaker 2 (20:01):
Okay, but is where does Baker rank in former Oklahoma
quarterbacks in the last decade?
Speaker 14 (20:09):
Just just above Kyl? Well, we're gonna count we can
go back further to Detroit. Aikman still count as a
no Oklahoma quarterback. Okay, okay, good, Yeah, he's uh, he's
up there. I would have him, Hypel would be below him.
Sam Bradford is you know, that's that's debate in his
prime before the injuries. I mean, that's a that's a
(20:31):
great that's a great radio segment. Right now, let's do that.
Speaker 2 (20:34):
Okay, But Jalen Hurts, is he the best Oklahoma quarterback
in the last ten years? Or do you put Kyler
Murray or do you put Baker Mayfield. Let's just do
those three.
Speaker 14 (20:44):
Yeah, No, I would go Cash, So it's Baker Kyler
and then Jalen I would go Jalen Baker Kyler.
Speaker 2 (20:56):
Okay, all right, I'm just not sure about Jalen Hurts.
It's weird how you can be great in a Super
Bowl loss great in a Super Bowl win.
Speaker 3 (21:07):
I just don't know.
Speaker 2 (21:08):
Is he a great quarterback or is he just the
right quarterback for a great team.
Speaker 14 (21:14):
Yeah, I mean it's tough to it's tough to figure
that out. I will let you know, though, Dan, we
are in danger of Spencer Rattler throwing this back in
our face after a big.
Speaker 3 (21:25):
What about Landry Jones or.
Speaker 14 (21:31):
But Hurts to your point, though, like it, they're different
obviously totally different style players, and it just does feel
like the rewind of the conversations on you know, Brady
with the early championships, which was like how much is him?
How much is it with the team? The point that
you know it makes a challenging to me is with Jalen.
(21:55):
I was sorry about this the other day. If you
were to go through like the great teams and you're
gonna have a draft off of their players, that to
me is the fascinating discussion of like which pick would
Jalen Hurts be off of the Eagles? Like, you know,
just in terms of talent, he's probably not one of
the three most talented players on that team, and you
wouldn't say that about you know, Josh Allen with the
(22:16):
Bills would be the first pick. Mahomes with the Chiefs
would be the first pick. You know, on and on
you kind of go to that list. So that's where
that that's where that becomes a challenge.
Speaker 3 (22:25):
Yeah. I think that's a great point.
Speaker 2 (22:27):
And look, these lists drive me crazy, but sometimes I
have to acquiesque and go, Okay, I'll do it.
Speaker 3 (22:34):
We're talking to Daniel Jeremiah, former NFL scout.
Speaker 2 (22:36):
He works for NFL Network, does a great job on
their NFL draft coverage. You were at the Titans camp
and it feels like is cam Ord officially the starting
quarterback for the Titans?
Speaker 4 (22:49):
Yeah?
Speaker 14 (22:49):
I mean, I don't know if they've officially announced it,
but it's clear and obvious when you go out there
and watch him. He's he's the guy. And he did
some good things when I was there. He made some
big time throws out of practice in the stadium the
other day, and you know, he's he's got a lot
of ability. He's got a loose arm you can move around,
which he's probably still gonna need to do. I know,
they they efforted to really upgrade that offensive line, but
(23:12):
it's still you know, it's a little bit leaky. But
I just I was talking to their their leadership there
with the president and general manager. I said, you know,
the kind of the cardinal sin in football in the
NFL right now is you can't be bad and boring.
Dan Like, you can be one or the other, but
you can't be both. And this is going to keep
them from being a boring team. They're gonna be a
fun watch, you know, with Ridley making some plays down
(23:34):
the field, and you know, Poward's a good running back
and now you've got an exciting quarterback. There's gonna be turnovers,
there's gonna be some ugly moments. But I contend when
you have a young quarterback, you're smart to on that
side of the ball, because not all losses are the same.
Rookie quarterback, if you're losing twenty eight to twenty or
twenty eight to twenty four and he's you know, showing
(23:56):
some flats, a heck of a lot better than losing
thirteen to nine.
Speaker 3 (24:01):
Yeah, no, that that's part of the problem.
Speaker 2 (24:03):
Where Like Carolina was bad and boring, I mean, Bryce
is is fun and showed glimpses last year and they're
probably going to be better and that. I look at
the Cleveland Browns. They got Miles Garrett and I but
I don't find them entertaining. I don't know if people
are gonna come on, kids, we're gonna go watch Miles
(24:25):
Garrett today. They're kind of in, you know, no man's
land while we talk about their quarterbacks. They have two
first round picks for next year that I don't know
if it matters what they have this year because of
those first round picks next year. So how do you
assess Cleveland? Are they bad and boring as well?
Speaker 8 (24:46):
Well?
Speaker 14 (24:46):
I think the defense has a chance to be good,
but that doesn't make them less boring. So I do
think they're in the boring category for sure. I don't
know that I'm willing to put them totally in the
bad category yet. And I think Flacco, even at this age,
you know, you'll make them competitive. He'll make some plays.
But I look at them, Dan with those two first
round picks you mentioned, and this year should be in
(25:09):
my opinion about discovery, people don't want to hear that,
but like I want an end of the year, I'd
like to know what I have in those two rookie quarterbacks,
you know, at least at least let them play a
little bit so I have some idea of what I
have before you you go into a draft. So everybody, Yeah,
the season hasn't even started. It We talked about, let's
you know, we're gonna Joe Flacco is gonna take us
to the AFC Championship Game, and I like, you know,
(25:31):
I don't really see that happening, but it would be
a shame to get to this whole year, for them
to be kind of a right around or under five
hundred team and to not see those two rookies and
not you not know what you have going into year two.
Speaker 2 (25:44):
Yeah, I think that certainly Shoudor is going to get
a chance to play, probably start a few games as well,
but more likely to use their two first round picks
on a quarterback next year, the Rams or the Browns.
Speaker 14 (25:59):
I mean, I would say, you know, if the quarterbacks
live up to you know, some of the some of
the love they're getting over the summer here for next
year's quarterback class, depending on who comes out, I would
say that they're both. I would be shocked if both
of them didn't end up with a quarterback in next
year's draft, you.
Speaker 2 (26:16):
Are a Chargers camp and like we're seeing Jim Harball
make this a Michigan looking offense, and they run the
ball re signed Slater there. You know, they draft, they
draft a running back, you bring in Nause, but their
best offensive player is Justin Herbert. It's always it's like
(26:37):
JJ McCarthy. I didn't know how good he was at
Michigan because he sort of deemphasized JJ McCarthy. Is Jim
kind of deemphasizing Justin Herbert. I mean he had his
best year, not statistically, but I think his quarterback rating was.
So it almost feels like, is this Michigan two point
(26:57):
zero for the Chargers?
Speaker 14 (27:00):
Yeah, I think you know, look, he protected the football
until you got to the playoff game. Unfortunately turned it
over a little bit against the Texans. But I think
the game plan is, you know, hey, maybe we can
major in Clark, Kenton Minor and Superman and then uh,
you know, make that'll keep you fresh and when we
need you to kind of bust that out, we can
do that. I mean, really, truthfully, it's what the Chiefs
(27:21):
have done with Mahomes over the last couple of years. Yeah,
hasn't been really the driving force that offense, So I
think that's that's part of it. But I was there
last year at camp the day that Herbert I believe
it was his foot. He hurt his foot. Then he
missed a couple of weeks of practice, and then they
didn't really use him much in the run game. But
(27:42):
I mean at the practice I was at and you,
I was seeing like quarterback power and they were they
were some design quarterback runs where it was like, oh
my gosh, like if they if they're willing to do that,
and Herbert can you know, add that a little bit
of that Josh Allen element to to his game. And
he's a big athletic, strong guy. And you saw with
the Andrew Luck and obviously Yet Kaepernick with the forty
(28:04):
nine ers. I'm not saying it's going to be that
level of volume in terms of running, but that could
be an area of Herbert's team that they haven't really
tapped into yet.
Speaker 4 (28:12):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (28:12):
I go back to his Rose Bull performance and yeah,
I mean his legs stood out to me when he
was at Oregon in that game. And I don't know
where coaches stand on having my quarterback run. You kind
of hold your breath when Josh Allen runs because he's
not running necessarily away from you. Where's Lamar and Kyler
(28:34):
and some of those guys are avoiding contact, can you?
I mean, I would try to utilize Justin Herbert the
way they do Josh Allen. I just wouldn't have him
take on defenders like Josh does.
Speaker 14 (28:48):
Yeah, I mean that would be preferable, not to initiate contact,
which Josh.
Speaker 5 (28:52):
Likes to do.
Speaker 14 (28:53):
But I mean for the first couple of years he
was in the league and doing all the Charger games,
I would always go down the field for war ups
and I'd always get a chance to talk with the
opposing GM and the other personnel buddies, and they would
all say the same thing. Dan, it was just like
good night. I had no idea how big Justin Herbert is. Like,
he is huge, and it's not not much difference between
(29:13):
him and Josh Allen side why they are both big, strong,
sturdy guys. So I don't think it's something you want
to do ten times a game, but you know, having
that element, even even on zone reads and just having
the threat of him as someone who could.
Speaker 16 (29:25):
Pull the ball.
Speaker 3 (29:26):
Yep.
Speaker 14 (29:26):
Now you've got Omari and Hampton, who is big and explosive,
and he can help the run game even if he's
not necessarily carrying it.
Speaker 3 (29:34):
Who's the worst team in the NFL right now?
Speaker 5 (29:38):
I don't.
Speaker 14 (29:39):
I'm curious to see what the what the Saints end
up looking like. You know, the Titans are going to
be better, but I still think defensively, you know, they
don't really have corners, they don't have bad rushes. I
think they're going to give up a lot of points.
Those would be the Those would be the two that
would come to the top of mind.
Speaker 2 (29:56):
And I know that arch Manning hasn't played a full
season at Texas, but if you're telling me that the
Saints are on the clock with the number one pick,
could you see arch Manning deciding I think he's staying
another year after this. But if his hometown Saints are
on the clock with the number one pick and he's
had a very good year at Texas, you think arch
(30:19):
Manning would come out for that.
Speaker 1 (30:22):
I don't.
Speaker 14 (30:23):
I mean, everything seems to be what you're saying about
him wanting to get another year and it's about having
the long term success, and I you know, as much
as it'd be cool to play for your hometown team.
I don't. I just don't think that's as much of
a draw anymore. You know, if that were the case,
he'd probably be playing for LSU right now.
Speaker 2 (30:44):
Yeah, I think he's going to, you know, because money's
not the issue. Although if the Cleveland Browns are there
staring at you, that might make me want to go
back to play another year, A couple more year. I
might go to grad school at.
Speaker 14 (30:59):
I've always wont to be a dentist.
Speaker 2 (31:01):
Yeah, great to talk to you. Thank you for joining
us to know you've got a busy schedule and we'll
be watching.
Speaker 14 (31:07):
Thanks Dan, I appreciate you.
Speaker 5 (31:08):
Buddy.
Speaker 2 (31:09):
Daniel Jeremiah NFL network analyst and their inside training Camp
coverage continues today starting at noon Eastern.
Speaker 9 (31:17):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (31:17):
What Hardball is doing with the Chargers is fascinating because
you have your best offensive player, but you're you're not
asking him to be your best offensive player. It's kind
of you know, Troy Aikman with the Cowboys when you
had Mike and you had Emmett. You're just asking Troy
when we need you, we need you to step up.
(31:38):
JJ McCarthy at Michigan. That's why when scouts would talk
about how good he was, I kept thinking I just
didn't see it, and I still haven't seen it. But
I'm fascinated to find out just how good he is.
Because the Vikings made a conscious, concerted effort that they
were drafting a quarterback. Now, maybe they didn't think Sam
(32:00):
Darnold was going to perform as well as he did,
but they moved on from him, moved on from Kirk
Cousins and JJ McCarthy gets the call, but watching justin
Herbert and he joins us on Thursday on the show.
But it's we don't need you to throw as much
as you've thrown before. We just need you to be
(32:21):
really good when we ask you to throw. Jim is
about defense and running the football.
Speaker 3 (32:26):
That's what he does.
Speaker 2 (32:29):
Let me see a couple of phone calls. Lisa in California,
Good morning, Lisa, what's on your mind today?
Speaker 3 (32:36):
Good morning guys.
Speaker 13 (32:37):
I just wanted the weigh in here. I firmly believe.
Speaker 14 (32:40):
That the reason everybody tells Todd to suck.
Speaker 13 (32:43):
It is because they would rather he stuck it than
sing it.
Speaker 6 (32:48):
Wow wow, Lisa off the top rope. Wow, And nobody
even knew I was up there, I.
Speaker 2 (32:54):
Get you know, with that voice, I thought it was
going to be something really sweet and nice.
Speaker 3 (32:59):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (33:00):
Second thing, Lisa, how do you feel about that?
Speaker 3 (33:05):
Well?
Speaker 13 (33:06):
I think it's interesting. You guys think I sound sweet.
There's no sweet in my game.
Speaker 3 (33:10):
Whoa hey boom, alrighty, thank you Lisa.
Speaker 6 (33:14):
All right, Lisa and Pandora step into a ring.
Speaker 2 (33:16):
Who's coming out? My money is on Lisa, Oh for sure, Yeah,
because I mean Pandora feels like a lover.
Speaker 5 (33:23):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (33:23):
But she's out on the farm, on the ranch all day.
That is true.
Speaker 2 (33:27):
She's she's out there, probably rustling cattle or something like that.
It's Lisa in California. She's not playing, I said, messus.
Speaker 6 (33:35):
You know she's got strong hands.
Speaker 3 (33:38):
Racy in Georgia, Hi Tracy, Good.
Speaker 12 (33:43):
Morning, gentlemen, including Fritzy. You know, I'm really pulling for
y'all to get this DP show jacked Off up in
the air, and I was thinking, what could really help
is perhaps some corporate sponsorship. You know, let's kind of
imagine the first annual DP Show Jacked Off presented by
Jiffy Lube. You could donate all your proceeds so local
(34:03):
short victims.
Speaker 3 (34:05):
All right, Well, thank you, Tracy.
Speaker 2 (34:07):
Yeah, we're trying to get maybe some you know, g
NC that would help us get jacked and uh, you know,
and then we would have the competition of who's jacked off,
you know, the jacked off competition.
Speaker 6 (34:18):
I think Creatine's making a big comeback of these days.
So yeah, yeah, I think we can get on the
creatam all right, I like you parsing your words as
you Yes, I am, as I am. We're doing the
jackt as I'm as. I'm watching my career unfold right.
Speaker 2 (34:34):
Before me, very I is take a break here, we'll
take We'll take a break, last call for phone calls,
what we learned, last chance to say suck at back
row right after this.
Speaker 1 (34:44):

Touched on a variety of topics today, as we always do.
Get a couple more phone calls. Justin Herbert will join
us on the program on Thursday. Marshall in South Carolina. Hey, Marshall,
(35:17):
thanks for holding What's on your mind today?
Speaker 9 (35:20):
DP?
Speaker 16 (35:20):
Thanks for calling me back.
Speaker 4 (35:21):
Man.
Speaker 15 (35:22):
I have a set of the day song, but I'm
no Pandora and I'm know Lisa, so I just wanted
a preface with that.
Speaker 2 (35:31):
All right, here's Marshall in South Carolina with his version
of the stat of the day jingle.
Speaker 10 (35:37):
I can hear it come and from the Milford man
case and I've been waiting all morning for the stat
of the day.
Speaker 5 (35:54):
Took it back.
Speaker 3 (35:56):
Okay, nailed it, Marshall, waited over an hour. Do that.
Nailed it? Thank you.
Speaker 2 (36:01):
Marshall nailed it. Yeah, sounded better than Phil Collins. David
in Ohio, Hi, David, what's on your mind today?
Speaker 13 (36:10):
Man?
Speaker 9 (36:10):
Dan?
Speaker 18 (36:10):
I don't know if I could top that, but uh,
I just want to ask, maybe Tyson. I have faith
that with Todd that my Pittsburgh Steelers will have more
wins than his Denver Broka.
Speaker 3 (36:22):
Oh that one's tasty. That's taste and Rogers.
Speaker 5 (36:27):
What will we do? Yeah? Why not? Let's do it?
Speaker 3 (36:30):
Okay, pie to the face.
Speaker 5 (36:31):
David?
Speaker 3 (36:32):
Is that good?
Speaker 8 (36:33):
Yeah?
Speaker 14 (36:34):
Yeah, I'm ready. I'm ready.
Speaker 5 (36:35):
Let's have the same number of wins. He gets the
pie in the face.
Speaker 2 (36:38):
Yes he does eight and a half for the Steelers
over under win total this year. But thank you David
Mike and Cincinnati.
Speaker 3 (36:46):
Hi Mike. What's on your mind today?
Speaker 16 (36:49):
By Dan Hey? Thanks for this Herbert interview coming up
on Thursday. I've never really heard him interview, so that
should be really outstanding. I appreciate you. This Beatles thing, now,
let's get real. You and I are the same age.
These guys came around and just changed everything with music.
They threw the whole rhythm and blues thing out the
(37:11):
window from Elvis and the blue thing everybody else. And
they started off with some rock and roll, but then
they implemented orchestral music, they implemented sitars. This Sargent Pepper's
album is the most unique album and the probably the
best album I've ever heard of my life. So to
compare Hall and Oats and the Beatles, are you crazy?
(37:35):
It's not even fathomable. And I love the Stones, But
what do they do? They did a lot of other
people's songs, a lot of old muddy Waters, different guys
like that. They did a lot of blue songs done
by other guys. Zeppelin, they're great musicians, but you're right, Dan,
and the Beatles just really did change everything, like you
talked about.
Speaker 2 (37:54):
Yes, they changed fashion, hairstyle. I mean it was a
complete wave. And if you listen to the complexities of
their music, I mean it is it's mind boggling to
do that over an eight or nine year period and
have that impact. I don't I shouldn't be fighting a
(38:15):
Beatles fight here. It's just I hope that one day
that you have an educated year that you understand just
how great the Beatles were.
Speaker 3 (38:23):
That's all. They've done it all, yes, Mormon.
Speaker 9 (38:29):
So with the Beatles, it's objectively good music.
Speaker 3 (38:33):
It's great music. Okay, yes, absolutely.
Speaker 2 (38:36):
They started out as a boy band, you know, hold
on a hold your hand, and then they gave you
helter skelter, Like just try to process that in a
span of what six or seven years, Sergeant Pepper's.
Speaker 3 (38:56):
I mean yeah, yeah. See was.
Speaker 6 (39:01):
Like pushback when the Beatles switched up like that, because
like in I feel like today we wouldn't be as
willing for some artists to be like, wait a minute, now,
you want us to take you seriously as a band,
you know, like the Beatles are sort of like a
boy band and now all of a sudden, then they
were artists.
Speaker 2 (39:20):
Oh yeah, you know, yes, because it would be like
Beyonce going country when Taylor Swift went pop. Uh so
yeah we we you know, tend to you know, put
the seat belt on you and say you got to
stay in that genre.
Speaker 6 (39:34):
You're supposed to stay in that one lane that you
already had for yourself.
Speaker 2 (39:38):
Yeah, stay in your lane, Stay in your lane. Jason
in Virginia, Hi, Jason, uh line one, Marvin Hey, Jason, Hey, Hey,
what's going on?
Speaker 8 (39:52):
Danny?
Speaker 3 (39:52):
How you doing good? What's on your mind? Jas?
Speaker 5 (39:56):
Oh?
Speaker 8 (39:56):
Man, I've been listening to you forever. Uh front row,
back row, love you guys. But Danny, I'm going to
tell you right now, I have never wanted to call
in until you started ranting about Bruce Springsteen. I saw
him in concert one time. Everyone said I had to
go a fifteen minute story.
Speaker 2 (40:13):
No terrible, Okay, thank you, Jason. I'm not into the storytelling.
Speaker 3 (40:18):
I'm not.
Speaker 2 (40:19):
When he got you know, had that reverend type voice.
I just I want to hear the music, that's all.
I don't need a story. I saw him on Broadway.
It was wonderful, but you know, original cast, Yes, I did.
I saw the original cast of Springsteen on Broadway. I
would have called it Bruce on Broadway, but he called
it Springsteen.
Speaker 3 (40:39):
Okay, fune. This day in sports History, Paul, do you
have anything for me?
Speaker 11 (40:44):
I'm gonna switch it up Dan to be on theme.
This Day in Movie History nineteen sixty five, the Beatles
movie Help made its world premiere at the London Pavilion
Theater in the West End. The London Princess Margaret showed.
Speaker 5 (40:56):
Up for it.
Speaker 2 (40:57):
Yeah, that would describe Fritzi Help.
Speaker 3 (41:00):
That's that's if there was one song, it would be help.
Speaker 5 (41:03):
Help me understand why the Beatles are so great?
Speaker 3 (41:05):
Oh my goodness, there's only so much I can do.
Speaker 5 (41:11):
No, she loves you. That can't be bad. You should
be glad.
Speaker 6 (41:16):
That's sad.
Speaker 3 (41:18):
Okay, are you done?
Speaker 5 (41:21):
Because we're shot on time? I would just continue.
Speaker 2 (41:25):
And you know that can They wrote a song and
they wrote an album that made Brian Wilson go crazy.
Speaker 3 (41:34):
Brian's saying she loves you and you should be glad.
Do you know who Brian Wilson is.
Speaker 5 (41:37):
Yeah, he's one of the beach boys.
Speaker 2 (41:41):
Most cars on the road. Everyone he hadn't just died
at Mako.
Speaker 3 (41:46):
He would not know.
Speaker 2 (41:47):
At Mako, they specialized in affordable pain chops like collision repairs.
Get a free estimate today, Oh better get Mako. We
probably set sports radio back thirty years today. Somebody, no, no, no,
not just anybody.
