Speaker 1 (00:00):
You are listening to the Dan Patrick Show on Fox
Sports Radio.

Speaker 2 (00:05):
Final hour on this Meet Friday. I don't know how
to describe the vibe in here. I don't know if
morale was high, it's I don't know, it's in disarray.

Speaker 3 (00:18):
I think the.

Speaker 2 (00:20):
Tone was set last hour by Fritzi where he took
a shot at me and my love of the Beatles
as he had a parody song based off We Didn't
Start the Fire by Billy Joel, and after that it
just started to I don't know, it felt like we
were turning on each other, the audience turning on each other.
Thank you, Todd.

Speaker 4 (00:41):
I think there's also questions, at least for me, about
the menu. Is it gonna Is that something we're excited about?
Are we feigning enthusiasm? I'm not sure about today.

Speaker 2 (00:49):
I'm gonna ask you what you think of Meet Friday's menu.

Speaker 4 (00:52):
I'm not loving this one, but I'm hoping I'll be
pleasantly surprised. That's just my honest assessment of when I
heard that's what we were having.

Speaker 3 (00:58):
You can sit it out if you want.

Speaker 5 (01:00):
I'll give it a shot.

Speaker 4 (01:00):
I'm not shy about.

Speaker 2 (01:02):
Consumer we're having Lambergers. Chicken solved Locke skewers s locke
in Greek sald Who is it better than we do? Nobody,
no Buddy'. Stat of the Day brought to you by

(01:23):
Panini America, the official trading cards of the Dan Patrick Show.
Good morning if you're watching on Peacock, thank you for
downloading the AMP, and we say good morning to our
radio affiliates around the country. I enjoyed the football last night.
I was happy for Trey Lance thirteen to twenty, one
hundred and twenty yards, a couple of touchdown passes, and

(01:43):
the Chargers rough up the Lions thirty four to seven.
Trey Lance has two regular season games with multiple touchdown passes.
Both came in his rookie season in twenty twenty one.

Speaker 3 (01:56):
Who still the Decks Day? Stana Day standa day.

Speaker 2 (02:04):
This is the stant of the Day, brought you by
Panadia America. And in case you're wondering, did the outcome
of last night change the Super Bowl odds this year?

Speaker 3 (02:17):
It didn't.

Speaker 2 (02:18):
DraftKings just sent me the Super Bowl odds. It's the
Bills and the Ravens are tied at plus six hundred
Eagles plus seven hundred Chiefs plus eight fifty lions plus
eleven hundred commanders plus eighteen hundred and of course the
commanders without Terry McLaurin as he continues his hold in.
And I mentioned this stat. Over the last five years,

(02:41):
there are four players with at least one thousand receiving
yards each year, Justin Jefferson, Mike Evans, DeVante Adams, and
Terry McLaurin. The NFL does not pay you on what
you did. They pay you on what they think you'll do.
And I think if he was twenty eight years of age,
this would not be an issue. But you get to

(03:03):
that number thirty years of age. Well, thirty is different.

Speaker 3 (03:07):
Now.

Speaker 2 (03:08):
Thirty doesn't feel like thirty, like, oh my god, you
only got a couple more years left in your career.
It feels like thirty all right, You've got four or
five more really good years. It feels like it's an
excuse not to pay you. And I don't know, you're
on the other side of thirty here, yeah, And that's
happening with Trey Hendrickson in Cincinnati.

Speaker 3 (03:31):
You're thirty. I don't know.

Speaker 2 (03:33):
Edge Rusher over thirty, okay, gave you thirty five sacks
over the last two years combined. But they're not paying
you on what you did, it's what they think he'll do.
And you still have the hold in there. Trey Hendrickson
and of course my co Parsons Seaton, what's the poll
question for the final hour of this program at least

(03:55):
for the week? You are the final poll question of
the week. Just the way, that is a lot of
pressure right there. Yeah, we have a few of them
up there right now. Two of them are Terry McLaurin
related in the commanders, Commanders and Terry McLaurin should they
trade him or pay him? Sixty four percent of the
audience have paying him? And whose side are you on?

(04:17):
Commanders or Terry McLaurin seventy seven percent or on Terry's side?

Speaker 3 (04:22):
Good? All right, good, that feels like a win for
the players. Yeah, let's go.

Speaker 2 (04:26):
Unless the season starts and he's not there, and then
you blame him because he's screwing up this dream season,
potential dream season.

Speaker 3 (04:33):
Right, there's plenty of time for that to change.

Speaker 6 (04:35):
Yes, of course, yes, we also have up there in
worse shape raised car Dylan's ankle or Todd right now
with seventy six percent of that vote, it is Todd Fritz. Wow,
raised car is only US five percent. So yeah, Ray's
getting a new tire from Tyre Rack today. We're gonna
we got him set up.

Speaker 2 (04:54):
Dylan may have ligament damage with his ankle playing pickleball yesterday,
but he is in He's our chef. But it's going
to take a village for this meet Friday. All right,
we'll get some phone calls in here. I brought this up,
and I didn't do any research because we usually don't
do research on this show. It's basically off memory. But

(05:18):
have we had a division where he had four Hall
of Fame caliber coaches at the same time, And that's
why I brought up the AFC West with Jim Harball,
Pete Carroll, you got Sean Payton, and of course Andy
some other ones two thousand and one AFC West Mike Shanahan,
Mike Holmgren, Dick for Meal, John Gruden. Let's see nineteen

(05:43):
ninety nine NFC West, Dan Reeves, Steve Mariucci, Mike Ditka,
Dick for Meal. Mary Ucci is not a Hall of Famer. Okay,
some other people have some thoughts on this. Reid in Wisconsin,
I read What's on your mind today.

Speaker 7 (06:01):
Hey, what's up?

Speaker 8 (06:02):
The first time?

Speaker 9 (06:03):
Long time?

Speaker 10 (06:06):
And I think that two thousand and five NFC should
have Bill Parcells, Tom Coughlin, Joe Gibbs, and Andy Reid.

Speaker 3 (06:15):
Okay, well, thank you. Uh.

Speaker 2 (06:17):
Some people have sent in some pictures. Apparently in the
first hour I had my hair some of it was
sticking up. Somebody said it looked like alfalfa from our gang.
But now they're sending me pictures to show that my
hair was apparently sticking up.

Speaker 3 (06:32):
Is that right, Tod?

Speaker 5 (06:33):
That is correct?

Speaker 3 (06:34):
Okay, I didn't I didn't notice that.

Speaker 4 (06:35):
I would have said something, or maybe I wouldn't have.
The other guys would have told you something.

Speaker 6 (06:38):
So we can confirm at one point during the show
your hair was in fact standing up, and it's no
longer doing that.

Speaker 3 (06:42):
Good good, I'm glad. Is it good?

Speaker 2 (06:45):
We got to the bottom of that, yeah, or the
top of that?

Speaker 11 (06:48):
Thank you?

Speaker 4 (06:48):
I think you're good.

Speaker 3 (06:49):
Thank you? Todd. Are you enjoying this a little bit? Okay,
not a lot, but a little yes. Yes, when Todd's
hair sticks up, you should tell hell.

Speaker 4 (06:57):
That would be like a I just to keep it
even in his book historic thing.

Speaker 2 (07:01):
When's the last time your hair stood up.

Speaker 4 (07:05):
When did the Broncos win that second Super Bowl against
the Falcons?

Speaker 3 (07:07):
You had hair back then?

Speaker 2 (07:08):
I think I had some back then, Okay, but then
I still don't know why celebrity family feud in the
promotional picture has you with hair.

Speaker 4 (07:17):
That was weird. That was very weird.

Speaker 2 (07:18):
And we've asked for answers. The iteam was on this,
and we don't have anybody who's going to give us
a response of why they put hair on you.

Speaker 4 (07:26):
And for the actual show, it's not like they put
something over it to make it look like I had hair,
So it was odd.

Speaker 2 (07:32):
Yeah, I don't know if this was you know, for ratings,
Hey look at him with hair, like you look better?

Speaker 3 (07:38):
Yes, bully. It was a social media post promoting celebrity
family feud and they had us in the Eisen Show
and there was no joke, there was no like bit.
It was just out there and Fitzy had like two
thirds of a head of hair, and we got no responsible. Well,
they didn't do that to rich Eisen. They did not.

Speaker 5 (07:53):
Don't know why they gave you hair.

Speaker 4 (07:55):
I thought it was initially just someone having fun, like
a you know, a fan of the show that that
would be cute to do that, but it actually came
from the show as some kind of weird promo image.

Speaker 2 (08:06):
Paulie has some Trey Lance questions. He looked good last night,
he looked comfortable last night. I should say, granted it's
the first preseason game, but I'm just looking for anything
from this kid. And he's only twenty five years of age.
But it feels like the NFL's moving on from him,
that he's the third string quarterback. I think with the Chargers,

(08:27):
I don't think Justin Herbert is hearing footsteps, are looking
over his shoulder. Even Taylor Heineke is a better quarterback
than Trey Lance.

Speaker 3 (08:35):
Yes, paul ku part question, is Trey Lance a bust
or is it to be decided?

Speaker 2 (08:42):
I'm going to say to be decided because he's only
twenty five years of it. You're being kind, I am
being kind. I don't know if somebody's going to give
him a chance to be a starter again.

Speaker 3 (08:52):
Could you make the case that he was a bust
with San Francisco, but his career to be decided?

Speaker 8 (08:57):
Yes?

Speaker 3 (08:58):
Can you unbust yourself? In professional sports? Has anyone ever
been a bust declared and unbusted?

Speaker 2 (09:07):
I have a name, but was Baker Mayfield a bus No?
He had some nice years, yeah, but then he's on
the practice squad. I think for Carolina he couldn't be
the backup quarterback.

Speaker 3 (09:19):
I think with the Rams he was in danger becoming
a journeyman, and he did a cleanup on Aisle five.
He was close, yeah, to be in a buzz, but
he had too many above average years with the Cleveland.
He kind of paid off for Cleveland early. Here's the guy, okay.
Alex Smith was drafted number one by San Francisco ironically
in two thousand and five. His first year one touchdown,

(09:42):
eleven picks. His second year improvement sixteen touchdown, sixteen picks.
His third year injured a lot, two touchdowns, four picks.
He didn't play his fourth year he's completely injured with
a shoulder injury. He played a few more years in
San Francisco, but at that point you could find articles
in eight Smith is a bust, a lot of them

(10:02):
like it's not working out. He cleaned up his act.
He had four decent years with San Francisco. Then when
he goes to Kansas City, he goes to three Pro Bowls, but.

Speaker 2 (10:12):
It felt like wherever he went, they brought in somebody
else who would take his place, you know, brought in
Kaepernick and Mahomes Bay went to Washington and had the
terrible injury. Yes, Marvin, I.

Speaker 3 (10:24):
Think another guy who may have unbusted himself. Sam Darnold.

Speaker 2 (10:29):
Yeah, yeah, that's a good point. Yeah, that's a good point. See,
Zach Wilson. Still is a chance, I guess, to unbust
himself new term. By the way we came up, unbust himself.
Bob in New York, Good morning, Bob. What's on your
mind today?

Speaker 8 (10:45):
Hello?

Speaker 12 (10:47):
Hello, I'm here, but I can't. I don't think you
hit the blunt.

Speaker 1 (10:51):
Yes, I'm here, Bob.

Speaker 12 (10:56):
I can't hear myself.

Speaker 3 (11:00):
That's kind of the way it works, Bob. I don't
know that you would hear yourself back, Bud Connor and Boise, Hello, Along,
I can't he Dan and you there? You there? Connor?

Speaker 7 (11:13):
Yes, sir, thanks for me calling DP. I'm calling about
the Hall of Fame coach issue, and I think Pete
Carroll's this will be a second time around. In the
ninety seven anf the East, when Carroll coached the Patriots,
Jimmy Johnson coached the Dolphins. Mar Levy coached the Bills

(11:33):
and Bill Parcells was on the Jets.

Speaker 3 (11:36):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (11:36):
Yeah, that was brought up by another caller, but thank you.

Speaker 3 (11:38):
Connor.

Speaker 2 (11:40):
Pete Carroll was not a Hall of Fame coach at
the time. These are all Hall of Fame caliber coaches
in the AFC West. This isn't they they're starting out
their careers. They've already become Hall of Fame worthy coaches.
Chad in Texas, did you give me the other Trey
Lance question?

Speaker 3 (11:59):
Pauline?

Speaker 8 (12:00):
That was it?

Speaker 3 (12:01):
The follow up was Kenny unbusted bab Okay?

Speaker 2 (12:03):
All right, yes, Chad, what's on your mind today?

Speaker 13 (12:06):
Good morning, Dan, thanks for taking my call. Six foot
two five dad, Bud, Hey, I'm headed up to here
area this weekend. I was just trying to get some recommendations.
My wife's in the wedding there in New Haven, so
I was trying to I know if you had any
recommendations far us.

Speaker 3 (12:23):
All right? Food wise, yes, sir, all right.

Speaker 2 (12:28):
There's a sneaky Italian place called Zenelli's Zenelli's and it's
it's right in the area where you have. Two of
the most famous pizzerias in the country are on the
same street. But Zenelli's they have more than just pizza,
wonderful people. Uh there's outdoor seating and they're right across

(12:51):
the street I think from Sally's.

Speaker 3 (12:54):
Yeah, just down the road. I mean right down the street.

Speaker 2 (12:56):
Yeah, But Zenelli's that's on street in New Haven. If
you're going for pizza, you can get great pizza there.
But they have some other things as well, So I
would say Zanellie's. The other places are going to have
long lines.

Speaker 3 (13:10):
Just letting you know.

Speaker 2 (13:11):
If you're going there for a weekend, there'll be long lines,
but hopefully you'll get good weather. Looks like good weather
for you traveling. Chad, thanks for the phone call. Let
me see Rob in Utah. Hi, Rob, what's on your
mind today?

Speaker 14 (13:26):
Hey Dan, how's it going great? I'm six five three
oh five. I had a trade idea for you because
Terry mclaurran wants to be traded. Tyreek Hill, also to
be beginning the postseason, said he wanted to be traded,
so swap him in Miami also sends a third round
or to DC.

Speaker 2 (13:48):
Well, okay, the only problem with that is is Tyreek
Hill going to want to renegotiate his contract? He doesn't
seem I don't know, doesn't seem happy, and I wouldn't
want Tyreek Hill. He's unbelievable at times, unstoppable. I just

(14:10):
think it's all about him. Terry McLaurin, by all accounts,
has been a great leader for the Commanders, and it
hasn't been an easy task being a leader with the Commanders.
I hope he gets paid. I hope he ends his
career there. I think he's one of those players that
unless you watch the Commanders, you really don't know about

(14:31):
Terry McLaurin because his numbers don't jump off the charts
as far as combine numbers, like, oh my god, that
guy's so fast. He just is a football player. You
throw the ball up in his direction, he's going to
bring it down. He was number one in contested catches
the last five years. He's going to give you a
thousand yards. I think he had thirteen touchdown receptions. He

(14:55):
is a big reason why you had Jaden Daniels have
the season that he had. It's like Steve Smith with
Cam Newton. When Cam first came in, Steve Smith was unbelievable.
Sometimes we just focus on the quarterback, and I hope
that I hope that they get this deal done. Uh

(15:16):
Trip in Vegas? Hi Trip, what's on your mind?

Speaker 15 (15:21):
Hey, DP, thanks for calling me back. I look forward
to seeing you all again. For f one I had
as a Crappensburg State alumni, I have two players that
we couldn't get through nil, but I had their nicknames.
One was Cooper Flag. He would have been the Cooper
Scooper and then if Travis Hunter went here, he would

(15:43):
have been the Devil Flusher.

Speaker 3 (15:45):
Well, thank you, Trip.

Speaker 2 (15:47):
Still still leaning on Crappensburg State humor, the gift that
keeps on giving. When we come back, We're going to
play the popular game, or at least we plan on
making it popular.

Speaker 3 (15:58):
Who said that?

Speaker 1 (16:01):
We'll have that for you Right after this, be sure
to catch the live edition of The Dan Patrick Show
weekdays at nine am Eastern six am Pacific on Fox
Sports Radio and the iHeartRadio app.

Speaker 16 (16:13):
Hey, We're Covino and Rich Fox Sports Radio every day
five to seven pm Eastern. But here's the thing, we
never have enough time to get to everything we want
to get to, and.

Speaker 17 (16:22):
That's why we have a brand new podcast called over Promised.
You see, we're having so much fun in our two
hour show. We never get to everything, honestly, because this
guy is over promising things we never have time for.

Speaker 16 (16:34):
Yeah, you blubber list Jam and me. Well, you know
what it's called over promise. You should be good at
it because you've been over promising women for years. Well,
it's a Cavino and Rich after show, and we want
you to be a part of it. We're gonna be
talking sports, of course, but we're also gonna talk life
and relationships. And if Rich and I are arguing about
something or we didn't have enough time, it will continue
on our after show called over Promised. Well, if you
don't get enough Covino and Rich, make sure you check

(16:57):
out over Promised and also uncensored, by the way, so
maybe we'll go at it even a little harder.

Speaker 3 (17:02):
It's gonna be the best after show podcast of all time.

Speaker 17 (17:04):
There you go, over promising. Remember you could see it
on YouTube, but definitely join us. Listen Over Promised with
Cavino and Rich on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts or
wherever you get your podcasts.

Speaker 2 (17:16):
When you talk about coaches, we like to talk about
coaching trees, like who was coaching under this coach? But
there's one for San Diego State with Don Coriel. Air Coriel,
and he of course was the former head coach of
the then San Diego Chargers. But they had their assistant
coaches at San Diego State. You had John Madden, you

(17:38):
had Joe Gibbs, Jim Mora, you had Gunther Cunningham, Ernie Zampeazi.
These are the assistant coaches there at San Diego State
under Don Coriel. So that's quite a family coaching tree
there at San Diego State. And wasn't Harbat or Harpball
was at San Diego? Was it a University of San Diego? Yes, Paulie.

Speaker 3 (18:01):
They always show that graphic a little apples and oranges.
But the twenty thirteen Washington Redskins, Matt Lafleur was on
the staff, Kyle Shanahan was on the staff, Sean McVay
was on the staff, and they've all gone on to greatness.

Speaker 2 (18:13):
Yeah, Harball was San Diego. Wasn't he University of San Diego?
Not San Diego State? And then he went to Stanford
after that. See if we can find that Mark in Michigan. Hi, Mark,
what's on your mind?

Speaker 3 (18:29):
Hey baby? How you doing great? Great?

Speaker 18 (18:32):
What do you have for me, uh, second time, long time, five, ten,
hard to fifteen. I heard you guys talking about Trey
Lance and is he a bust or not?

Speaker 8 (18:44):
He's still young, he.

Speaker 18 (18:45):
Cats still recover and I think it will see in
the ass can you unbust yourself? And in my mind
immediately went to Baker Mayfield and I know you. I
just wanted to bring it up from his time in
Oklahoma until he got Tampa Bay. He was so overrated.
I bought overheight and cocky.

Speaker 2 (19:06):
Well, I mean he was cocky, maybe overrated, but he
did have a couple of promising seasons in Cleveland.

Speaker 3 (19:12):
Yeah, Paul Baker's first three seasons in the NFL, he
had twenty seven touchdown passes, twenty two twenty six. He
was above average for a rookie.

Speaker 2 (19:21):
Yeah, yeah, I wouldn't consider him a bust. But I
think when you realize that he was with the Rams
and I think Carolina as a practice squad guy, it
felt like it was going south in a hurry. And
even when he signed with Tampa Bay, I don't think
anybody went They're going to win the division.

Speaker 3 (19:38):
But I mean, I I like what I see with him.

Speaker 2 (19:43):
I think you want your quarterback to have some kind
of temperature there and now he's in his prime. He's
very fortunate to haveb Mike Evans. Mike Evans is fortunate
to tab Baker Mayfield. I mean, Mike Evans going to
the Hall of Fame, but that's not because of Baker Mayfield.
Baker is adding to that Hall of Fame resume. But

(20:04):
thank you Mark for the phone call. Rich in New York, Ki, Rich,
what's on your mind today?

Speaker 7 (20:11):
Bust to unbust? He was a Heisman Trophy winner, a
bust with the Patriots and then won a Super Bowl
with the Raiders.

Speaker 2 (20:19):
Jim Plunkett, he won two Super Bowls, but yeah, he
was considered a bust. Heisman Trophy winner, went to the Patriots,
and then when he went to the Raiders won a
couple of Super Bowls. Jim in Michigan, Hi, Jim, what's
on your mind today?

Speaker 3 (20:36):
Well?

Speaker 19 (20:36):
I wanted to comment about the Beatles. First of all,
I think a real good job on the poetry from Fritzy.
I thought it was very very good. Maybe his little
flat on his singing. I think that Robert Soul was
a very influential album for me, as opposed to Sergeant Pepper.
I think it had more meaning, it wasn't quite as theatrical.

(20:59):
And if I never your hate Jude again in my lifetime,
I would be happy as opposed to please please me
or from me to you. I like the early Beatles
more than some of the later stuff.

Speaker 3 (21:10):
Okay, well, thank you, jo.

Speaker 4 (21:15):
I.

Speaker 2 (21:16):
I did not think that I would be defending the
Beatles as much as I'm defending the Beatles.

Speaker 3 (21:21):
But I'm not gonna do it anymore.

Speaker 2 (21:23):
I'm just gonna let Todd if he wants to take
his shots, he can take his shots. You you made
fun of Springsteen numerous times, Bob Dylan numerous times. So
I just consider the source that you really don't know
music that has depth.

Speaker 4 (21:38):
That's probably the healthiest attitude to take them.

Speaker 2 (21:40):
Yes, no, no, no, no, we're not doing it. I mean,
you can love Hallan Oates but they hate each other.
But you can love.

Speaker 3 (21:54):
Hallan notes we don't talk about that, as far as
you can.

Speaker 2 (21:57):
Love Billy Joel. But you don't have to demean the
other artists.

Speaker 5 (22:00):
No, you're got you can.

Speaker 2 (22:02):
You make fun of Springsteen and you make fun of Dylan, Yeah,
and you made fun of the Beatles. This just makes
you feel better about your musical choices.

Speaker 4 (22:13):
It does, and I have a lot of insecurity, so
I need to put down others to make myself feel better.

Speaker 2 (22:17):
George in Saint Petersburg, and then we're going to play
who said this?

Speaker 20 (22:23):
Hi?

Speaker 3 (22:23):
George?

Speaker 20 (22:25):
Hey, Dan one eighty eight point five.

Speaker 1 (22:30):
Hey.

Speaker 20 (22:31):
I got to give big props the NBC for creating
content last night for the Hall of Fame game. Melissa
Startin was outstanding with their Calcolm conversations with inductees, then
Brent going up to the booth with Tarrico and Chris
and giving some of this great sound. It was really fun.
And secondly, celebrate my Leroy selmon sixty third birthday tomorrow,

(22:55):
our son's taking me to Buccaneers training camp. Then walking
across the street x Ray get a tossed Blake Snell
pitched against my beloved Tampa Bay rayce Hey. And also
is lamb really a meat?

Speaker 8 (23:09):
Question mark?

Speaker 3 (23:11):
Thank you George. I I don't know is Lamb meat?
I would it would it be? I don't know if
it was, if it wasn't considered, I don't know. George
is not there, Yes, Paul, Lamb is a meat, and
specifically a red meat. Okay, I mean this is my wheelhouse. Yes, Tom,
I'm kind of sheepish on this. That was that you

(23:35):
are that kind of a lamb.

Speaker 4 (23:38):
Whatever you threw together.

Speaker 3 (23:43):
How about we play the game who said this? Seaton?

Speaker 2 (23:48):
How about you take over the host role and you
give us the quotes and we have to guess who
said this.

Speaker 6 (23:54):
The game is who said this? And whom are they
referring to? Okay, or who are they referring to and
whom said it? Here's the first quote. I have a
series of quotes. This is the first quote quote blank.
Were huge for me when they came out. I saw
the musical world change overnight. They combined R and B,

(24:16):
rock and pop in a way nobody had done before.
That was a big deal for me.

Speaker 3 (24:22):
Who are they talking about and whom said it? Yes, Paul,
I think it's Ozzy Osbourne speaking about the Beatles. I'm gonna,
I'm gonna, I'm gonna go with you on that.

Speaker 2 (24:34):
One half of that answer is correct Ozzy Osbourne incorrect.

Speaker 3 (24:40):
Yes, Marvin, I think Billy Joel said it.

Speaker 2 (24:44):
Boy, you're getting warmer Hall and Ode said it.

Speaker 3 (24:48):
That would be Darryl Hall referring to the Beatles.

Speaker 21 (24:50):
Yes, he said that.

Speaker 3 (24:54):
All right, are you ready for your next quoesarony, Wow,
are you ready for your next? Quote?

Speaker 11 (24:58):
Yes? Yes?

Speaker 3 (25:00):
Quote who said it? And whom are they referring to? Quote?

Speaker 6 (25:05):
It was like a cultural explosion after that, every kid
I knew wanted to be in a band. Of course,
Blank and I were no different end quote Who said that?
And who are they referring to?

Speaker 3 (25:16):
Yes? Pay John Oates about the Beatles? That would be
about the Beatles? Do you nail that's that coming?

Speaker 2 (25:24):
Oh?

Speaker 6 (25:24):
You think you're being set up? So they have both
referred to I have I have another set of quotes
for you. But both of those guys have referred to
uh Philadelphia's soul as like being the backbone of their music. However,
the Beatles, they said, taught them everything about melody, song structure,
studio experimentation, especially when they began layering harmonies and textures

(25:47):
on songs like Todd would you like to guess? Two
of the songs Haul and Oates credit for the Beatles.

Speaker 3 (25:54):
For influencing is one you Make My Dreams. One of
them would be Private Eyes, the other one would be
Kiss on My Left.

Speaker 4 (26:00):
They credit the Beatles for influencing those are the two
songs I say, though, that's crazy, those.

Speaker 6 (26:05):
Are you two favorite songs? I have one more quote here.
It's actually two quotes that I'm combining into one. Dan okay,
same game. Who said it? And who are they referring to?

Speaker 3 (26:17):
Quote?

Speaker 6 (26:18):
I think we're the eighties Beatles if we had been
born twenty years earlier. Dot dot dot there's something about
our personalities that is very Lennon and McCarthy esque. Take
one fourth of blank and three fourths of me, and
we're the Beatles of the post Woodstock generation, no question.

Speaker 3 (26:35):
End quote. Who said that? Oasis? Yes, Pauly, this sounds
very much like Daryl Hall. That would be again referring
to the Beatles and him and John Oates. Yes, there
you go. That's who said it and who are they
talking about?

Speaker 16 (26:49):
Damn.

Speaker 4 (26:50):
I'm just glad they didn't do a great job of
mimicking what the Beatles played, because the songs that I
listened to don't sound like the Beatles to me. But
good for them.

Speaker 3 (26:57):
Yes, Paul so Fritzi, are Daryl Hall and John know
what's wrong?

Speaker 4 (27:01):
I think they're mistaken in this and I don't know
what they're smoking and drinking back then I'm not going
to play figures the eighties.

Speaker 3 (27:08):
Yeah, I don't know.

Speaker 4 (27:09):
I don't know what they're doing, but none of the
songs I like sounding anything like the Beatles.

Speaker 2 (27:13):
Nick in Cincinnati, Nick, welcome.

Speaker 8 (27:18):
Six feet two hundred DP. Also want to mention long
time twenty ninth collar and I'm also head football coach
for seventh grade Silver Nagel Nighthawks. Little plug there for
those guys. But I got four words about the Beatles.
Suck it the Beatles, Thank you, Nick, Hey, take it

(27:40):
res man.

Speaker 2 (27:43):
Don't need to get angry that would need to be said, though, Yeah,
but just don't listen to him.

Speaker 12 (27:49):
Uh.

Speaker 3 (27:49):
Kevin in Vegas, Hi, Kevin.

Speaker 21 (27:52):
Hey Dan, Hey Dan, it's uh check us out. I'm
a DJ hand Las Vegas, been here about twenty years,
DJ uh Fritzy. I'm with you, buddy. At one time,
had anybody walked up to me why I was playing
songs and said, would you play a Beatles song?

Speaker 2 (28:11):
Do they do they ask you to play holl of Oates? Sorry,
Kevin hearing himself back on it. He should be in
tune with sound and therefore you turn down your radio.

Speaker 3 (28:28):
Uh.

Speaker 2 (28:29):
Ed in Pennsylvania, Hi, Ed what's on your mind?

Speaker 11 (28:33):
Vp?

Speaker 12 (28:34):
Uh five five nine and too much?

Speaker 10 (28:37):
All right, there it is, Hey, So I need uh,
I need help from seating about a guitar riff that
me and my buddies. We're trying to figure out what
the band is and we can't figure out who it is.

Speaker 3 (28:49):
So here it goes.

Speaker 11 (28:49):
Okay and.

Speaker 3 (28:59):
Dunda dund the Deftones.

Speaker 14 (29:07):
Yes, thank you, thank you.

Speaker 2 (29:09):
All right, thank you, Seaton. Update the poll results if
you can, Seaton, of course I can.

Speaker 3 (29:15):
I'd be happy to.

Speaker 2 (29:16):
Okay, just let me dial that up real quick.

Speaker 3 (29:22):
I need to call this up.

Speaker 6 (29:23):
Let's see who's in worst shape raised card, Dylan's ankle
or Todd Todd still running away with that one the
big winner today. Congratulations Todd, Commanders and Terry McLaurin. They
should trade him or pay him. Audience overwhelmingly says pay him,
and then whose side are you on? Audience also overwhelmingly
on Terry Mclaurin's side, over the Commanders. I do believe

(29:44):
that's going to change, probably, So who had the best
week in sports?

Speaker 4 (29:48):
Todd?

Speaker 2 (29:48):
I'll start with you. Who had the best week in
your opinion?

Speaker 5 (29:52):
You know what, I'm gonna give it to our friend
Adam Sandler with that was it forty six point seven
million in the first three days.

Speaker 4 (29:57):
Initially I was going to go with the big dumper
Cal raw and getting to forty two home runs, but
let's give it to the sad man.

Speaker 5 (30:03):
That's a huge first three days, breaking all kinds of records.

Speaker 2 (30:06):
Happy gil Moore too, all right, And it is a
sports movie, so the best week in sports counts. Yeah,
of course, Seaton.

Speaker 6 (30:14):
For me, runaway winners Sacramento as Nick Kurtz. Oh, dude,
absolutely crushed six or six at the plate, four home runs,
eight rivyes, nineteen total bases in the game.

Speaker 3 (30:25):
You can't really have a better game than what he
did there.

Speaker 2 (30:28):
It might be the greatest offensive performance in baseball history
for a single game.

Speaker 6 (30:32):
And as a rookie too, right, I mean, yeah, that's
hell yeah, dude, Yeah, Marvin, I'm.

Speaker 3 (30:38):
Gonna go with Ryan McMahon.

Speaker 4 (30:40):
He got traded from the Rockies to the Yankees and
in his fourth game he hit a walk off single
for the Yankees.

Speaker 3 (30:45):
Okay, Paul, I'll go with San Diego Padres fans. They're
sixty to forty nine, only three games behind the Dodgers.
They made a big push at the trade deadline, really aggressive.
They have not been in a World Series since I think,
does that sound right? And it's tough to get past
the Dodgers, It's really tough. You've got to be aggressive

(31:06):
and try to snag one. This is their chance. Yeah,
they went all in.

Speaker 2 (31:12):
Seattle feels like and I appreciate this, that that if
you get close. I just don't know what is that
number where you go, we're four games out of a
wild card spot, We're going to be active at the
trade deadline. Two we're five games out. Now we're going
to be sellers. Just that that fine line of what

(31:34):
when are you a buyer and when are you a seller?
And certainly with the mid market teams because those who
have a lot of money, they're going to be all
in unless you go back to the Cubs when theo
Epstein got there and he basically said, look, I'm going
to get rid of these players and this is for
the future if you trust me, and they ended up

(31:55):
winning a World Series. But I don't if I'm a
Twins fan. You traded nine of the twenty six players
on the roster, I don't know what that means for
the future, because you have to have confidence in those
who are running the organization. But Seattle, Seattle did well. No,
I like it, Uh, Padres, They've done this before. But

(32:19):
and they traded some young talent I think the second
or third best prospect according to Baseball America.

Speaker 3 (32:26):
Who is it? Debrees?

Speaker 21 (32:28):
Uh?

Speaker 3 (32:29):
Yeah, so they And I do like that.

Speaker 2 (32:31):
The Yankees have one player on their roster that if
Paul's schemes ever becomes available, that guy is going to
be traded for him. And to which I say, love,
I already have a young guy who's a star. Why
do I want to trade him and then get another
young guy who's a star who's going to eventually be

(32:52):
on a bigger roster, you know, on a roster that
has a bigger payroll.

Speaker 3 (32:57):
Yeah, paulin that Yankee player. I saw that story. Spend Jones. Yeah,
listen at six seven, twenty four year old outfielder. But
I have schemes.

Speaker 2 (33:06):
I'm just going to pitch him until he ends up
with another It's like Garrett Cole, Garrett Cole with the Pirates,
and then you go, he's not going to be there
for you know, too much longer. And that's unfortunate, but
that's the way baseball is baseball is. It's not a
level playing field and probably not going to be unless
they do have a strike at some point. All right,

(33:29):
let me take a break. If you're watching on Peacock,
go out to the grilling area with us with our
meat Friday and last call for phone calls.

Speaker 3 (33:36):
We're back after this.

Speaker 3 (34:24):
I've bang it on there.

Speaker 2 (34:30):
Uh fun week. Great to have football back. Get a
couple more phone calls in here this day in sports history.
Brent Musburger will join us on Monday, fresh off the
Hall of Fame induction ceremony. Rick and San Diego. Hi, Rick,
what's on your mind today?

Speaker 3 (34:48):
DP?

Speaker 12 (34:48):
What's happening?

Speaker 4 (34:49):
Man?

Speaker 3 (34:49):
Five to nine?

Speaker 12 (34:50):
And as my son would say, one six seven, Hey,
I just wanted to say thank you. I live out
here in San Diego, and a couple of weeks back,
I flew to my hometown of cincinnat west Chester Ohio
right there in your Mason to drive my seventy year
old mom down to Saint Augustine, Florida, where she's moving
in with my sister's family. So long story short, we
had a fourteen hour car right ahead of us. Planned

(35:11):
to break it into two days, but thanks to the
DP show, we made it through in one. We basically
listened to the full week of the show from the
podcast from up the Lake Tahoe did realize how far
we had driven, But man, thank you and the guys
so much. It's a great memory. It was a great
journey and we'll keep that together forevering my mom and
I so appreciate you guys.

Speaker 3 (35:30):
Thank you. Rick.

Speaker 2 (35:31):
He's in Westchester, home of the Lakota Thunderbirds, sort of
rival of the Mason comments Mike and Florida. Hi Mike,
what's on your mind today?

Speaker 3 (35:45):
Hey Mike?

Speaker 2 (35:49):
Thanks Mike Baker in Illinois, Hi Baker, what's on your
mind today?

Speaker 8 (35:53):
Hey Dan?

Speaker 9 (35:54):
How you doing? First time? Forever time fix one fifty.
I just want to drop a bomb on Fritzea and
I think Seaton will agree that Piano Man is the
best Paul McCartney song that Billy Joel ever wrote.

Speaker 3 (36:20):
Baker, you call it anytime? Thank you Baker? Yeah, how's it? Field?

Speaker 14 (36:24):
Tom?

Speaker 4 (36:26):
I don't even know. I don't even get that. What
am I missing? What as I got to do with
Paul McCartney? He says, that sounds a lot like Paul McCartney.

Speaker 2 (36:30):
Yeah, Paul was a brilliant piano player.

Speaker 3 (36:34):
Brilliant Has that been like established?

Speaker 4 (36:36):
I said by a lot of music critics, piano man,
that's Paul McCartney.

Speaker 2 (36:41):
Billy Joel is channeling Paul McCarty.

Speaker 4 (36:43):
Everybody channels everybody else. That's just the world of music.

Speaker 2 (36:46):
Who's channeling Billy Joel?

Speaker 4 (36:49):
I don't have a name off the top of my head.

Speaker 3 (36:52):
I don't know bend of him.

Speaker 21 (36:55):
In some way.

Speaker 3 (36:56):
Ship before.

Speaker 4 (36:57):
You can't recreate the wheel. Everybody selling from everybody else?

Speaker 3 (37:01):
You can recreate the wheel.

Speaker 4 (37:03):
I've never heard of anyone say, oh, Billy Jill and
what to Paul McCartney?

Speaker 3 (37:07):
Ripoff the only piano John? And Iowa John? What can
I do for you?

Speaker 14 (37:17):
Friday?

Speaker 3 (37:17):
To you and the Dan Ede.

Speaker 11 (37:18):
I am my first time, longtime caller Hive seventy.

Speaker 1 (37:24):
Dan.

Speaker 11 (37:24):
I am an actual chain gang member and honestly for
a small college up here in Iowa, and I feel
a little attack this morning. I feel like everybody's coming
from a job here. But but it's really interesting. You
know what you said earlier. Dan, It's it's all about
where they spot the ball and then where the official
comes back, and they will tell us exactly where to

(37:44):
put the sticks. So my specific job is I'm the
clip guy. And so once the first down is set, uh,
we will clip at the nearest five yard line on
the back side of that five. So again we are
going exactly off of the spots telling us to do
from what the officials are saying. So protect my job.

Speaker 4 (38:04):
Thank you.

Speaker 3 (38:05):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (38:06):
My dad worked on a chain gang every Friday night,
no matter the weather, and he would always wear his wingtips.
He'd come from work and he would get there just
in time to be on the chain gang. And he
loved it because he was so close to the action.
I am glad they're keeping the chain gang. I have
no problem with the chain gang. I like when the
chain gang comes onto the field.

Speaker 3 (38:27):
Oh, I'm with you.

Speaker 2 (38:29):
How about this day in sports history, PAULI.

Speaker 3 (38:32):
I got a couple for you. Nineteen seventy two, Joe
Namath signed a two year deal worth a total five
hundred thousand with the New York Jets. The Seattle Seahawks
played their first preseason game lead after their first season.
Pete Rose in seventy eight ended his hitting streak of
forty four games. I think that was the NL record
at the time. And Reggie Jackson admitted into the Baseball

(38:52):
Hall of Fame nineteen ninety three.

Speaker 2 (38:54):
I remember Reggie called me and he said, hey, I'm
going to mention you in my speech and I said, well,
thank you. He said, no, I want to thank the
people who are going to be caretakers of the game,
those who really care about the game, and he did.
I was very honored that Reg put me in his

(39:16):
Hall of Fame speech. Somebody said, do you think Brent's
going to put you in his Hall of Fame speech?

Speaker 3 (39:21):
And I go, I hope not.

Speaker 2 (39:23):
This isn't about me. I just wanted people to know
and remember the impact that Brent Musburger's had on professional football.
That was the first pregame show, and he has been
in love with the game. He was ahead of the
curve with gambling. I don't know if that maybe hurt
him getting in as a contributor, but I'm glad that

(39:46):
the voters or the Hall of whoever voted on this.
It's the Pete Rosell Award that they're bringing in Brent Musburger.
As far as an impact to the game itself, I'm
very proud that any role that we played that we
could get Brent Musburger in the Hall of Fame. On
this date, twenty fourteen, Paul George suffered that compound fracture

(40:08):
of his lower right leg. That was Team USA scrimmage.
Oh boy, that's one of those where you're just thinking,
can somebody come back and have a normal life after that,
that they'd be able to walk And the fact that
he carved out an NBA career is remarkable after you
look at what he went through. Mike and Florida. Hi, Mike,

(40:32):
what's on your mind today?

Speaker 11 (40:34):
Dan? I love your interviews, but you're the best in
the business. I'm sorry you're going to retire in a
few years.

Speaker 8 (40:39):
Yeah.

Speaker 11 (40:40):
Comparing the Beatles to Hall and Oates and Billy Joel
is like asking her you'd rather have a five star
restaurant ormeain Neil or Hamburg or French Fries. And I
looked in Rolling Stone Top fifty albums of all time.
The Beatles have five I think in the top thirty.
All of Oates and Villa Joel had a combined zero
in the top fifty albums of all time. So I

(41:02):
mean this is not even a I mean, I don't
even know why we're having this. If he would just
listen to Beatle albums, I think he changed his mind.

Speaker 3 (41:10):
But no, no, he would not Thank you. Mike. Yeah
yet to.

Speaker 5 (41:13):
Hamburg and French Fries.

Speaker 4 (41:14):
Please medium welltim or some onion rings?

Speaker 3 (41:18):
What did we learn on the program? Todd?

Speaker 2 (41:20):
Did you learn anything today?

Speaker 3 (41:21):
Lewis Ridex has for Trey Lance.

Speaker 5 (41:23):
Last night he checked all the boxes execution, comfort, level,
timing and accuracy seatan.

Speaker 2 (41:27):
What'd you learn today? Beatles debate is not going away.

Speaker 3 (41:29):
It's not Marvin bansting. Fritzie's in the worst shape. Paul,
you can unbust yourself, Todd? What did I learn?

Speaker 5 (41:37):
The Minnesota Twins decided to trade away over a third
of their roster.

Speaker 2 (41:39):
What most cars on the road could use a little
CHLC At Mako, they bring your car back to life,
affordable paint, chumpsight collision repairs. Get a free estimate today.
Uh oh, better get Mako. My thanks to uh not
only the Danets, but the backroom guys, including Dylan, who
played hurt today for a meet Friday.

Speaker 3 (41:58):
Dylan, thank you.

Speaker 2 (41:59):
