Speaker 1 (00:00):
You are listening to the Dan Patrick Show on Fox
Sports Radio.
Speaker 2 (00:05):
Well, we made it to a Friday. It's a meat Friday,
but our chef is down for the count. Dylan got
hurt yesterday afternoon playing pickleball and once again not having
Tyrol pickleball shoes on, so he has got a banged
up ankle so much so he didn't even tell me
(00:25):
what the menu is. I don't know what we're having
for meat Friday right now, but Dylan is here, as
he said, Hey, I'm at least here to try to
put on this Friday meal. I don't know what we're having.
He doesn't have the energy to I guess write that
down or type that up, so I can't have you
(00:46):
live vicariously through us. I'm not quite sure what we're having.
But yes, yes, yes, Marvin.
Speaker 3 (00:51):
I was told we're having Lambergers in chicken slovaki. Okay,
So who's got it better than we do? Oh boy?
Speaker 2 (01:03):
Well, he doesn't know if he can go all the
way through and make the meal. So now you got Tyler.
Tyler used to do the job, so now he's bringing
Tyler in. There's a little bit of friction because Tyler
lost his job to Dylan and then weeks our cameraman
is helping out in the kitchen. It's kind of a
mess right now. Normally Meet Friday is a great day,
(01:25):
a great moment for us. But it feels like there's
some tension in the room. Yes, Tom Tyler's spinning a
spatchel around.
Speaker 3 (01:30):
Is that like warming up in the bullpen.
Speaker 2 (01:32):
He's got like different cooking equipment that he's just kind
of flipping around back there.
Speaker 3 (01:35):
Thank you, Todd.
Speaker 2 (01:37):
Stat of the Day brought to you by Panini America.
The official trading cards of this program. First Hour brought
to you by tire Rack. They've been helping customers find
the right tires for how and what and where they drive.
We had an incident yesterday with Pa Ray. He had
a flat tire. He didn't how to change the tire.
He then on the verge of tears, comes to me
and starts talking about tire Rack. Could I reach out
(01:59):
to Tyre And I said, you can do it Tyreck
dot com, slash Dan tell him what you drive, what
kind of tire you need. So he needed a replacement
han Kouk tire. So we took care of that yesterday
and the tires on its way today tyraq dot com
the way tire buying should be. All right, we had
football ish last night, and depending on your viewpoint here,
(02:23):
if you're a Lions fan, then you probably go, yeah,
what's preseason? It doesn't really matter. If you're a Chargers fan,
you go look pretty good last night? Yeah, I'm thinking
AFC title game. We're running the football there. That's Jim
Harball football. That's what it is right there. Trey Lance
looked pretty good last night. And if you're a Charger fan, okay,
(02:47):
you got.
Speaker 3 (02:48):
To be happy.
Speaker 2 (02:49):
But it's interesting how you can have an approach where
the game doesn't mean anything, or the game means a
little bit more than it's supposed to. That's preseason football,
and preseason football isn't pretty because it's a prime example
of hey, let's just get out there and let's take
our organized scrimmage and just put it on national TV
(03:10):
and you'll be able to see warts and all kind
of what's going on. Preseason a series of glorified tune ups,
but it's still entertaining, and you know, you're trying to
watch a little bit and just kind of gather, all right,
what's this mean or who's that player. Sometimes it's just
a vibe. You know, you're watching Dan. You know, these
are two of the more animated coaches, with Jim Harbaugh
(03:32):
and Dan Campbell. And then it's the Hall of Fame
weekend and you're celebrating all those players. We're going in
players who come back for that. Brett Mussberger was in
the booth last night, and you end up telling stories
more than showcasing the game.
Speaker 3 (03:49):
But it was fun.
Speaker 2 (03:50):
But football is here. We have turned the page. We're
in the month of August, and it's a full speed ahead,
except for the commanders with Terry McLaurin, because now he's
requested a trade and you start to these things normally
work out, But at what point do you go if
you're Terry McLaurin, the point of no return because he
(04:15):
wants to be paid more than thirty million dollars. I
don't know if it's thirty two, thirty three million dollars.
He's a big reason why Jayden Daniels played so well
last year. And you brought in Deebo Samuel, But Deebo
Samuel is not Deebo Samuel anymore, and he's not the
kind of receiver that Terry McLaurin is Terry McLaurin. If
you throw it in his area, he's going to get
(04:36):
it contested catches. He was number one in the NFL
the last five years. This is what you need with
Jayden Daniels going into a second year. You got momentum,
you got the defending Super Bowl champs in your division.
And this is that hold up. This is that hiccup.
This is something that could derail bigger dreams that they have.
(04:58):
But Terry McLaurin is requested a trade from the Commanders,
and I don't know if this heats things up or
the Commanders actually go all right. But here's the problem.
If I'm a Commander's fan, You're not going to get
dollar for dollar for Terry McLaurin. You're going to get
draft picks because if you're trading Terry McLaurin to a team,
(05:19):
you're probably trading him to a team that is a
playoff team that might go, hey, you know, the Chargers
are a name that came up. The forty nine Ers
are a name that came up. The Patriots a name
that came up. I mean, there's going to be teams
that will be waiting and seeing what would it cost
to get Terry McLaurin. You still have to pay him,
(05:40):
but you're going to get a guy who's going to
sign a new contract with you and you'd have him
probably for the next four years. He probably looks around
and goes, Okay, Courtland Sutton signed four years ninety two million, Well,
i'm better than him, or the same age. Brandon Ayuk
got thirty million dollars. I'm better than him. He's not
better than Sam. Like now, you have to take inventory
(06:02):
and you have to be honest with yourself. Your agent
has to be honest with you and say, hey, I
don't think you're there. You're not in justin Jefferson Jamar
Chase category. Now are you the next level?
Speaker 3 (06:15):
Maybe?
Speaker 2 (06:16):
And what is commensurate to you your production, your output?
But that's I mean, that's a really really important situation here.
Now you got the Bengals with Trey Hendrickson. He's still
on the outside, but at least he's in camp. Terry McLaurin,
when you say, hey, trade me, that's a little bit different. Now.
(06:39):
You know, once again this comes down to war words, leverage,
and they could wrap this up. You know, probably in
a half hour meeting and say all right, I'll take this.
I'll surrender that next thing. You know, Terry mclaurin's in camp.
Speaker 3 (06:52):
But you know the potential for disaster here.
Speaker 2 (06:58):
Loom's pretty big because Jayden Daniels, you want him to
take that next step.
Speaker 3 (07:03):
Second year we see quarterbacks.
Speaker 2 (07:05):
Sometimes they take a little bit of a dip, and
I would love to keep that momentum the best I
can if I'm the commanders. And sometimes it's a couple
of million dollars. And this goes back to what I've
said about the Cowboys situation with MIKEAH Parsons. You're probably
going to be spending eight million dollars more than you
(07:26):
need to each year with MIKEEH Parsons because you could
have gotten him for maybe thirty four million dollars. Now
it's probably going to be forty two. Well, this is
where you lose a couple of players. A couple of
million dollars here, Now we have to let that guy go.
It was a couple of million dollars with Derrick Henry,
(07:46):
and I go back to that, a couple of million
dollars you could have had Derick Henry who wanted to
play for the Cowboys. Is from Dallas, wanted to play
for you, but a couple of million dollars. But Trey Hendrickson,
Terry McLaurin, my parsons, I think all of them get done.
But it's only because I've been doing this for a
long long time and they usually get done. Somebody doesn't
(08:09):
get traded and you have a hold in and that's
so they don't get fined. But it was football last
night and it was still fun. And you know, great
Hall of Fame weekend coming up there in Canton, Ohio.
Trade deadline Boy the art is formally known as the
Minnesota Twins. I would think program sales will probably be
(08:29):
pretty high for the Twins fans because I think they
traded nine players over the past couple of weeks. So
nine of twenty six players on their major league rosters
were traded during the trade deadline period. Seven of them
were traded yesterday. Now, if I'm a fan of the Twins,
(08:51):
if I know and I can trust the front office
that in three years from now, we might look back
on this and say, hey man, that was the turning plain.
Look at the players we got or the draft picks
we got and I don't know how many teams can
sign up for the Miami Marlins blueprint because they won
two World Series titles, and it felt like every five years,
(09:13):
here they are, and then they take the wrecking ball
to the roster and then they build it back up again.
Speaker 3 (09:19):
You have to have.
Speaker 2 (09:20):
Extreme confidence in your front office to be able to
do that. But Minnesota Twins traded nine of twenty six
players on their major league roster. All right, eight seven

Speaker 3 (09:37):
Good morning.
Speaker 2 (09:37):
If you're watching on peacock, thank you for downloading the app.
Say good morning to our radio affiliate. We have a
poll question, play of the day, stat of the day,
all of that forthcoming.
Speaker 3 (09:47):
Seatan poll question for the first hour.
Speaker 2 (09:50):
Lewis Riddick of the Mothership will join us, get his
thoughts on these holdout situations or hold in situations.
Speaker 3 (09:57):
Seatan, what do you have? Well, we just got one
here from Paul.
Speaker 4 (10:02):
Uh.
Speaker 3 (10:02):
What's in worse shape? Raised cart, Dylan's ankle or Todd? Hmm? Wow? Okay, Todd,
are you in bad shape? That could be a lot better?
Speaker 2 (10:15):
Shit, Okay, raised car is going to get fixed because
Ty rack will take care of that. Dylan will eventually
get healthier, and then he'll get I mean, I don't
want to set the bar. No, No, his ankle will
get healthier. Will it ever be this hi again? Really,
I don't know. But he has to get the Tyrol
(10:36):
pickleball shoes. That'll help. But and and Todd takes his
daily I'm not going to pick on Todd today, bump.
Speaker 3 (10:48):
Is that breaking news? That would be extremely breaking news.
I'm taking the under on that one if.
Speaker 2 (10:53):
Okay, Now, I've been told, I've been told sources close
to me that Todd is going to take his shot
at me in a song coming up a little bit
later on kind of was a.
Speaker 3 (11:04):
Shot at you? Per se, It's a shot at something.
Speaker 2 (11:07):
Okay, you got your Haul and Oates t shirt on,
I do send it a message? Yes, yeah, once again,
you're gonna take a shot at me.
Speaker 3 (11:13):
I guess, yeah, I guess. I'm going to wait for
you to fire first.
Speaker 2 (11:17):
Once again. I don't start him, I end him. Okay, Yeah,
that's a good attitude. You come in piece, you leave
in pieces.
Speaker 3 (11:27):
Wow, what's the chot that sounds like a pumper sticker?
Is it a movie?
Speaker 2 (11:32):
It's it's a line from J Billis. He was in
a movie and I think that was the line I
thought Arnold Schwarzerdayer said that in some movie like I
come in Piece of you going pieces. I thought I
thought J Billis was the one involved in that movie
or something. Can we I don't know if I just
made something up here? Bisa waite, are you taking a
(11:55):
shot at me?
Speaker 3 (11:56):
I'm a little bit.
Speaker 2 (11:56):
Yeah, I'm gonna be really sensitive today. Not yes, I am,
I'm gonna be really sensitive. Okay, yes, Paul.
Speaker 1 (12:05):
I have I have that line I come in piece
you go in pieces from a show called Dark Angel, which.
Speaker 3 (12:11):
I don't know, and was Jay Billis on Dark Angel.
Speaker 2 (12:16):
Yes, thank you, thank you, thank you.
Speaker 3 (12:25):
I don't I don't know if that's the stat of
the day. Marvin J. Billis was on Dark Angel. But
did Dolph Lungren have the line? Off Lungdren, let's go,
this just got even better. He's in the scene.
Speaker 2 (12:37):
Okay, maybe it's Dolph Lungren says it to Jay Billis,
something about showing up.
Speaker 3 (12:44):
You come in, piece you leave in pieces. Yes, time
was Jessica album and Dark Angel. That was some other
Angel TV show. That's like, I'm just asking friend.
Speaker 2 (12:53):
Okay, okay, So, uh, what's what's another poll question? There?
Speaker 5 (13:01):
She wasn't a show called Dark Angel, Jessica Helvot, that's Bundy.
Speaker 3 (13:04):
Another thing on the cover of TV Guide.
Speaker 2 (13:06):
She got a new boyfriend. Oh yeah, yeah, yeah. She
broke up with Cash Warren and uh now she got
a new new boyfriend.
Speaker 3 (13:15):
She cashed out, thank you to what other poll question
do you have?
Speaker 5 (13:22):
Did we go with Terry McLaurin, You trade him or
pay him?
Speaker 3 (13:27):
You can? I mean we can if you're a commander,
I gotta I gotta pay him.
Speaker 2 (13:31):
Okay, here's another topic and we will have to have
more time on this. If you're a fan, are you
on Terry mclaurin's side to say, hey, he produced for us,
he didn't have great quarterbacks prior to last year, he
was a constant, he was a class act out of
Ohio State. Or do you go, come on, you're gonna
screw up our season here? Because I think that's how
(13:53):
fans react that, Hey, this is about us, this isn't
about you.
Speaker 3 (13:58):
Come on, you really need three million?
Speaker 2 (14:01):
You know? So that I think that that that's the
interesting part of this. I think when fans see a holdout,
they're not on the player's side. With that holdout, we'll
talk to Lewis Riddick, former front office executive. He is
a former player, works for the Mothership. He'll join us.
Coming up, we will get to phone calls. Operator Tyler
(14:22):
is sitting by eight seven seven three DP. Show just
getting started on this Meet Friday, Dan and the Dan
Nets Dan Patrick Show.
Speaker 1 (14:31):
Be sure to catch the live edition of The Dan
Patrick Show weekdays at nine am Eastern six am Pacific
on Fox Sports Radio and the iHeartRadio app.
Speaker 4 (14:41):
Hey, we're Cavino and Rich Fox Sports Radio every day
five to seven pm Eastern. But here's the thing, we
never have enough time to get to everything we want
to get to.
Speaker 6 (14:49):
And that's why we have a brand new podcast called
over Promised. You see, we're having so much fun in
our two hour show. We never get to everything, honestly
because this guy, he's over promising things we never have
time for.
Speaker 1 (15:02):
Yeah, you blubber lit laming me.
Speaker 4 (15:04):
Well you know what it's called over promise. You should
be good at it because you've been over promising women
for years. Well, it's a Cavino and Rich after show,
and we want you to be a part of it.
We're gonna be talking sports, of course, but we're also
going to talk life and relationships. And if Rich and
I are arguing about something or we didn't have enough time,
it will continue on our after show called over Promised. Well,
if you don't get enough Covino and Rich, make sure
(15:24):
you check out over Promised and also Uncensored, by the way,
so maybe we'll go at it even a little harder.
It's gonna be the best after show podcast of all time.
Speaker 6 (15:32):
There you go, over Promising, and remember you could see
it on YouTube, but definitely join us. Listen Over Promised
with Cavino and Rich on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts
or wherever you get your podcasts.
Speaker 2 (15:43):
Pickleball is booming, certainly around the man Cave. Tyrol is
leading the charge. It's the first shoe built for pickleball,
and Dylan wasn't wearing Tyrol pickleball shoes yesterday and he
is laid up with a sprained ankle. So play longer,
move quicker, and look like a pro. Tyrol t y
(16:03):
ro l pickleball dot com. We'll get to your phone calls.
Settle on a poll question. Lewis Riddick of the Mothership.
He's a ESPN, NFL and college football analyst and worked
in the front office of the Commanders and the Eagles
former NFL safety. Good to see you again. Let me
start with Washington with Terry McLaurin. He's requested a trade. Now,
(16:28):
if you were working in the front office with the Commanders,
how would you read when that's it's not a demand
a request?
Speaker 3 (16:35):
What's that mean to you?
Speaker 5 (16:38):
It's basically the same thing to me, you know, in
the context of what he's saying, is if you're not
going to meet, if we're not going to be able
to kind of like come to some kind of agreement
here in terms of the pay raise for me, given
that I'm entering into the last year of my contract,
then just trade me. If you really, if we're really
(16:59):
this far part as far as how we see my
value going forward, then go ahead and trade me, which
they're saying, Look, that's ridiculous, We're not going to do that.
You know, they're probably they're thinking, look, we still hold
the cards. We could wind up making him play out
this year and it's at the current salary, franchise him
for twenty twenty six and then you know, let him
(17:21):
be a free agent, ask that there's a lot of
things that they can do that they don't that they
can do that really require them not doing anything at all,
which is just sitting there.
Speaker 7 (17:28):
And he knows that.
Speaker 5 (17:28):
And then really the only recourse that you have as
a player, Dan, as you know, is the the only
thing you recourse you have is withhold services.
Speaker 7 (17:36):
So or asked to be moved somewhere else.
Speaker 5 (17:38):
And you know, whether he's saying, look, I'm requesting a trade,
demanding a trade, obviously he's ticked off because him and
his agent, Buddy Baker, obviously see his value going forward
as much different and objectively based upon how he played
last year.
Speaker 7 (17:51):
They have an argument.
Speaker 2 (17:53):
Okay, but let's look at it the what is reasonable
for it? Let's say you ran the Commanders. Yeah, you
want to re sign him. He's better than Brandon Ayuk
who's getting thirty. But he's not Jamar Chase or Justin Jefferson.
He's not Ceede Lamb. So where is the landing spot there?
Speaker 7 (18:13):
I think I think you just said the magic number.
And I've been saying this on TV, I said it
on social media last night.
Speaker 5 (18:18):
I think thirty million is the magic number for me
that I think if I was Adam Peters, I would
be saying, Okay, look, this.
Speaker 7 (18:26):
Is where this needs to be realistically.
Speaker 3 (18:28):
Now.
Speaker 5 (18:28):
If he's thinking I need to be up here at
thirty three thirty four, then obviously I'm going, well, we
probably can't get there. And we know that the sweet
spot in any negotiation and any ultimate deal is where
you're not happy with exactly where you got to, but
you're not dying over it either, And that goes for
both sides of the equation, both management and the player.
(18:49):
And I think that's the area where I would be
like saying, look, if we're here, then okay, I'm good
with this.
Speaker 7 (18:56):
I'm good with this.
Speaker 5 (18:57):
And that's me trying to like remove the emotion of
how I feel about Terry McLaurin the person and the
player out of it, okay, because there's no doubt that
what he has done in the past he has earned it.
He has earned Look, he's earned every penny that he
has made to this point. And I think if you
were just going to factor in what he has meant
to this organization, you could probably make an argument for
(19:17):
it being even higher. In the thirty one thirty two area,
you know, when we're just taking into account the entire player.
But from a strictly business sets, I'd be comfortable with
thirty million per year. It sounds like from what I've
heard that maybe they may be looking for an average
that's even higher than that, that puts him into that
stratospheric level, which I would be a little bit worried
(19:37):
of doing as well.
Speaker 2 (19:39):
But do front offices pay you on what you've done
or what they think he'll do? Because Trey Hendrickson did
everything outperformed TJ Watt the last two years, Terry McLaurin,
he produced last year. But it feels like, yeah, but
you're thirty years of age, Now what are you We're
not paying you on what you did, We're paying you
(20:02):
on what we think you can do.
Speaker 5 (20:04):
I say this all the time. The contracts are about
future performance projection. I say that like almost annoyingly so
on TV all the time.
Speaker 3 (20:12):
And and I'm with you.
Speaker 5 (20:13):
Look, but I also am someone who doesn't believe that
thirty years old, all of a sudden there's some kind
of big giant boogieyman that people constantly lean on and say, oh,
but he's gonna be thirty like, Okay, well, if I
really want to get technical, Terry's not going to be
thirty until the middle of September. So what does that
mean for the look just I know people use that
as this line of demarcation to say, well, now the
(20:34):
tide has turned. Now it's nothing but downhill for this player.
Speaker 7 (20:38):
And that's not true. It's just not true.
Speaker 5 (20:41):
I think you have to take every one of these
cases case by case, understand what his history has been,
as far as his availability is, durability as training, habits,
his personal life, all of that, and make a reasonable
projection going forward about, Okay, do we think we can
get to ROI the return on investment that we're looking for.
And I think with everything that I've heard is that
(21:02):
he's not someone I would bet against. I wouldn't be
trying to negotiate against what he has done in the
past because he has shown that he is an ultimate professional.
And yeah, you know what, there are also people who
make arguments for players based on what they've done in
the past, almost as if players deserve something, you know,
(21:22):
a premium above and beyond which you rashally think he
may have earned going forward simply because of how good
of a pro he has been on and off the field,
and Terry probably falls into that category. What's interesting about
this situation is that there are people who are really
split on this.
Speaker 7 (21:37):
They really are.
Speaker 5 (21:38):
People are like, hey, Washington, Adam Peters should make his
stand and Terry should just play out the deal because
he is going to be thirty and he's not a
great separator. He's not DK Metcalf, he's not Justin Jefferson.
And then there's people who go, have you looked at
the objective data on this guy? Have you looked at
the effect on the QBR in the quarterback rating of
Jane Daniels when they're targeting him. If you looked at
(22:00):
you let he was top three in the league in
touchdown receptions last year. Have you looked at the number
of first downs he produced last year, which was up
there with the elite players in the league. Have you
looked at how strong he is at the catch one,
the number of contested catches he made in the time,
and the number of first downs he.
Speaker 7 (22:15):
Produced, Well, why wouldn't you project that that's going to
get better this year?
Speaker 5 (22:19):
As Jayden gets better, the run game gets better. They're
in year two of this program. I would be comfortable
projecting his production to stay right where it is, if
not improving, based on all those factors. But you know,
we have this tendency to want to say, well, he's
thirty years old and that there's no way he can
get better, just like saying the same thing about quarterbacks
that the year or two Jinxes is coming and that
(22:41):
Jayden won't get better. I think everything is trending the
right way in Washington. I hope they're able to land
somewhere in that low thirty range or maybe right around
thirty and Terry can get in there, because this could
be very, very very disruptive to this offense if it's
one of these things that gets extended into the regular season.
Speaker 2 (23:01):
I'm talking to Lewis Riddick of the Mothership. Would you
rather pay Dk metcalf or Terry McLaurin.
Speaker 5 (23:08):
It's a great question. I would probably at this point
I would I would rather pay Terry simply because of
the person and the player, and how much I trust
the player, and how much I know that the effect
that he has on the football team.
Speaker 3 (23:25):
From a.
Speaker 5 (23:27):
Just from from a cultural standpoint, and I know this
going back to his days at Ohio State. I love
I love this dude when he came out and he
was someone who was kind of like severely overlooked, and
I think he's still being overlooked and a little bit
disrespected now. But see what people fall in love with
is the fact that DK is huge. He's an absolute freak,
he's fast, he has a flair for the dramatic. I
(23:51):
just want to steady, consistent producer that if you know what,
if you've ramped up mclaurin's targets to the degree, like
say like a Jamar Chaser justin Jefferson, you'd see the
kind of production that you just couldn't deny. But then
there's this there's this aesthetic, you know, part of this
thing where you sit there and go But he's not six'
four and he's not two, fifteen he doesn't run four.
Two we'll get off of that and just look at
(24:13):
the game and watch him play and what he. Means
The Jayden, DANIELS i think that's all you need to.
Speaker 3 (24:17):
See what do you look for in a preseason?
Speaker 5 (24:20):
Game, Yeah i'm a little bit of a geek. MAN
i LIKE i love watching all the second and third round.
PLAYERS i like you know WHAT i like. SEEING i
mean second and, third, second, third, fourth fifth round guys
who are really just fighting to kind of make a.
Team WHEN i look FOR i look for the uncovered.
GEMS i look for execution amongst the guys who you
know are going to be on the football team regardless
(24:42):
of the level competition they're playing.
Speaker 2 (24:43):
Against, okay but what did you see From Trey lance last?
Speaker 8 (24:46):
Night?
Speaker 5 (24:46):
Exactly that's my. Point that's just WHAT i was going
to get. To it's about execution For. Trey it's about
the comfort level For. Trey it's about the timing that
he played, with the accuracy that he played, with the
fact that he played with his shoulders back and he
was kind of had his head up and he was
like he was feeling. Good he never has looked like.
That he's never looked like that in his. CAREER i
don't care if it was against The lions And canton
(25:08):
at A hall Of fame. Game Jim harball is having
some kind of effect on this young, man and he
has finally hit his. Stride after being so green coming
out of college with such little, Playtime he's finally hit his.
Stride AND i think we know, this and you know
this for. Sure, man we have seen in the recent
past how much quarterback development is not a set thing
(25:30):
in terms of its. Timing you have to be willing
to be more patient now THAN i think you've ever,
been simply because the variance between organizations and programs is so.
Great you just don't. Know you just don't know how
guys are gonna gael from one place to the. NEXT
i know it's only one, game But i'll tell you.
What in all my time of Watching Trey, lance AND
(25:50):
i was a huge supporter Of Trey, lance AND i felt, Like,
man DID i really just blow that and get that?
WRONG i saw something last Night i'd never seen. Before
i'm hoping he can and he sticks there and eventually
he gets his.
Speaker 3 (26:02):
Shot BUT i don't think we're patient at.
Speaker 2 (26:05):
ALL i think we're less patient because it used to
be you could be a number one pick and sit
for a couple of. Years, SURE i mean it doesn't
happen like. That It's, hey did you see WHAT. Cj
stroud did his?
Speaker 3 (26:18):
Rookie?
Speaker 2 (26:18):
Hear, hey did you see What Jayden daniels did his rookie?
Here Drake, may why can't all these quarterbacks be the same.
Speaker 3 (26:25):
RIGHT i mean it's.
Speaker 2 (26:26):
Quick we get you, in you, know into the washing,
machine and all of a sudden you come.
Speaker 3 (26:32):
Out how do you? Smell if, Not i'm going to
put you back. In we'll move.
Speaker 2 (26:37):
On you, know it doesn't take long for these teams
to go we tried you for a year or two.
Years now we're going to go try to find our quarterback.
Speaker 5 (26:45):
Again, yeah you, know, Ironically Chris beller was just talking
about this and in regards To Anthony richardson about the
fact that he has seen and he knows. IT i,
know gms are talking about. It he's, seen you know,
recently when you're looking at guys Like Baker mayfield and
how it took a little, bit you know for him
to kind of finally hit his, Stride Sam darnold and
(27:05):
the kind of year.
Speaker 7 (27:06):
That he had last. Year he has seen.
Speaker 5 (27:07):
That, hey, look we need to be maybe we need
to rethink the amount of time that we give these,
guys regardless of where of where we drafted them and
what our initial expectations, are because everyone's just. Different the problem, Is,
look owners are, impatient fans are. Impatient we're just living
in an impatient world where we just want instant gratification right. Now,
(27:28):
hell we have rookie quarterbacks in camp right now who
after one week they have a one bad period and
we're going bust get him out of, there get the
next guy in. There WE i, mean and we, Know,
look we've just seen cases where guys finally found their
found their right fit and then they finally take Off
Gino smith another.
Speaker 7 (27:48):
One but we don't. Care we don't care about. That we're,
LIKE i don't. CARE i don't want to wait that.
Long either this.
Speaker 5 (27:54):
Guy shows me right away out the, gate or we're
moving on to the next. Guy it's it's an interesting
it's an interesting. Case BUT i think With Trey, lance
he's probably going to be the next one that it'll
be interesting to see if he can continue on with
this kind of momentum and whether or not he ultimately
gets a shot to play somewhere else and actually play
a lot of. Football because IN la he ain't playing
ahead Of Justin.
Speaker 3 (28:14):
Herbert well he's not only twenty five.
Speaker 2 (28:16):
EXACTLY i mean that guys don't even really come into
their prime and now because they're coming in, young you,
Know Anthony richardson twenty years of. AGE i, mean you
either know or. YOU i think you either know right
away that somebody can or can't. PLAY i think you
can see how they, prepare work, ethic, LEADERSHIP i mean
(28:39):
all of that. Stuff BUT i still go back To
Trey lance AND i go not enough sample size with.
Games so he gave me one miracle season At North Dakota.
Speaker 3 (28:49):
STATE i need. More it's Like Zach.
Speaker 2 (28:51):
WILSON i need more because Bo knicks gave me Fifty
Jayden daniels gave me sixty starts in. College but NOW
i know WHAT i. Have at LEAST i have a
better understanding of WHAT i. Have Mitchell trubisky was really
one good year in. College those guys scare. Me Anthony
(29:12):
richardson wasn't even a, starter consistent. Starter he showed, flashes
but it wasn't enough for me to. Go he's a
top five.
Speaker 7 (29:20):
Pick, Yeah and that's.
Speaker 5 (29:22):
See that's the balance and the internal both individually and
organizationally fight that every team has every year when you're
talking about players who are supremely gifted who may not
have the resume that you're talking, about versus players who
have great, production a long history or a much longer
(29:45):
history of, production but name may not be as.
Speaker 7 (29:48):
Gifted which way do they?
Speaker 5 (29:49):
Lean and a lot of times because OF i, mean
let's just be, honest because of the let's, say the
ego of people in THE, nfl and we all have.
It they, believe you know, WHAT i can make this
guy into exactly WHAT i want, him because just look
at these. Traits, damn you gotta have these. TRAITS i
don't want this guy who's a little bit lesser of an,
(30:12):
athlete a little bit lesser of a, player.
Speaker 7 (30:13):
Who may be topped.
Speaker 5 (30:14):
Out they always talk, about you, know you always have
these conversations about what is ultimately the ceiling of this.
Player this guy's ceiling so much, higher and with our
great genius coaching and, development we're.
Speaker 7 (30:23):
Gonna get it out of. Him we're gonna develop the
Next hall Of. Famer and that's the risk that you.
Speaker 5 (30:27):
Take like With anthony in, Particular, look everybody In indianapolis,
knows and he knows himself that the biggest thing Holding
Anthony richardson back Was Anthony, richardson and it was it
was the. Thing AND i wanted to jump in and
say this while you were, talking BUT i didn't want
to interrupt. You but the biggest thing with him is
the maturity, factor the football character, factor the commitment factor
about it being constant and consistent and constantly trending the
(30:51):
way it needs. To because if he can get, that
and he is fighting an uphill battle, now especially what
happened with him down In, houston he's fighting that that
that image is burned into some people's brains for, eternity
and no matter what he, does they're never going to
feel as though he has the has what it takes
to be a franchise. Quarterback but that's what he's fighting
now because from an athletic standpoint and a trade, standpoint
(31:14):
you've already seen him In indianapolis make throws.
Speaker 7 (31:16):
That nobody can make in the. League that's that battle
all the.
Speaker 5 (31:20):
Time and with Bow, knicks how many people killed Bow
knicks coming out in the draft last year and, said
Son payton doesn't know what he's. Doing what's he doing
with this? Guy doesn't have any? Upside this guy's he's
Got and now Now Sawn peyton's going see. See so,
yeah it's a fascinating thing that front offices go through every.
Speaker 2 (31:39):
YEAR i was thinking about this with THE Afc west
that you Got Andy Reid hall Of Famer Pete, carroll
Maybe hall Of Famer, Borderline Sean, payton Maybe hall Of
Fame Jim, harball hall Of fame caliber coach With college En.
Pro AND i was, thinking have we had a vision
(32:00):
that's had Four hall Of fame like coaches at the same.
Time AND i thought about The giants With, Parcells washington
With Joe. GIBB i don't know if they were all
there at the same, time but let's SAY i Add Jimmy,
Johnson Bill, Parcells dick For meal with The, eagles And Joe.
(32:20):
GIBBS i don't know if they were there at the same,
time but those are Four hall Of fame coaches in
the same.
Speaker 3 (32:27):
DIVISION i don't know if it was at the same. Time,
yeah it.
Speaker 5 (32:32):
Is The west has really for me exploded onto the
scene this, year in particular because of what you're talking
about and will be THE i, mean there will be
some absolute cong Versus godzilla type battles all year.
Speaker 3 (32:49):
Long how would you rank? Them So Andy? Reid Andy
reid is?
Speaker 2 (32:53):
Top, Yeah, now who's the second best coach in THE
Afc West, Peyton who's?
Speaker 3 (32:59):
Third?
Speaker 7 (33:01):
Oh, well, LOOK I.
Speaker 5 (33:05):
I would say It's pete because of What pete has
done in THE nfl, already and then and Then jim and,
look there there are people who will who will debate
that bottom three guys or the next three After andy
and probably put all kinds of different. Order but in my, experience,
Look Sean, payton in my, experience is kind of like
underrated in many. Respects he doesn't get he doesn't he's
(33:27):
not constantly in the discussion as far as when we're
talking about offensive, geniuses just good team, builders good coaches
who are great at utilizing players and understanding their strengths and.
Speaker 7 (33:40):
Weaknesses but he's one of the Best i've ever seen.
Speaker 2 (33:42):
Do but is he in the category With tomlin And
John harbaugh who both won A Super bowl and so
Does Sean.
Speaker 7 (33:49):
Payton, Absolutely he's absolutely in that in that.
Speaker 5 (33:53):
Category And i've Gotten i've had the, fortune you, know
the good fortune of being able to spend a lot
of time talking to both of those guys and talking
To Sean. Payton you sitdn't talk To Sean payton about.
Football it is a. Tutorial you will fill up. Notebooks
you'll want to write down every single thing that he.
Says and you can't argue with the way in which
(34:14):
he has built teams in conjunction with the gms he's
worked with over the, years and what he's doing In, Denver,
Denver denver's gonna be right. There denver's gonna Give Kansas
city every single thing they can handle this.
Speaker 3 (34:26):
Year.
Speaker 5 (34:27):
Everything they, have a championship caliber, defense a championship caliber offensive.
Line it's gonna be whether the quarterback can take another big.
Jump they've got, backs they've got wide, receivers and they
got a coaching. Staff they're gonna be for real in two.
Speaker 2 (34:41):

mine this, week and he asked me IF i had
seen the cameo By Dan patrick and happy to get
more to yet AND i quickly care him and SAID
dp did not have. Cameo Pat daniels had a. Role
now get back to, work, son AND i have two, Questions,
(37:10):
dan can we get a countdown clock for your, retirement
like we have a countdown clock for the beginning of
the football. SEASON i, mean that would be cool and
it'd be great. Content and then, SECONDLY i was just
checking on the gong because is that still? Available BECAUSE
i feel like there was a couple of gong worthy
moments this, week especially with the whole be Rating chris.
Speaker 2 (37:32):
Team it's, Here it's, here but that's just doing a
test drive on. It nobody's worthy of a gong. Today
Yet i'm trying to be a little more judicious WHEN
i use the. GONG i could use it On todd
quite a. BIT i might be using it later Because
todd has a song parody WHERE i think he's making
(37:56):
fun of The beatles And Bruce. Springsteen but thank you

a role In Happy gilmore.

Me first, time long time question For dannon The. Dennets
If terry McLaurin were to get, traded what's the top
three teams you guys think he gets traded?
Speaker 2 (38:38):
TOO i would Say New england would be one THAT
i would look, at AND i can only go on
the other. Now somebody just compiled a. List The chargers
were on there and the forty Nine ers were on
there as. Well that would be. Odd If Deebo samuel
goes To washington And terry McLaurin would go To San.
(38:59):
FRANCIS i don't think he's going to be. Traded it
just feels, like you, know AND i don't think anybody
holds out. Anymore after Le'Veon bell nobody should hold. Out
that was a financial. DISASTER i saw Where STEPHEN. A
smith Said Micah parson should hold out or the entire.
Season i'm, like you'll never get that money.
Speaker 3 (39:22):
Back that's.
Speaker 2 (39:23):
Silly oh you're going to sit out the entire. Year
just Ask Le'Veon bell about. That it didn't go well
when he was holding out from The. Steelers that'll get.
Speaker 3 (39:35):
Done they get. Done it's really rare when they. Don't i'm.
Speaker 2 (39:40):
Surprised i'm more surprised when they don't get done because
it feels like everybody has a, number they know what
it's going to.
Speaker 3 (39:48):
Take and then are you going to? Cave are you
going to? Cave are you going to? Cave all? RIGHT
a little, bit all, right a little bit.
Speaker 2 (39:53):
