Speaker 1 (00:00):
You are listening to the Dan Patrick Show on Fox
Sports Radio.

Speaker 2 (00:04):
What goome morning to you, Dan Patrick Show, Fox Sports Radio.
iHeartRadio app You got the Doug Outleab Show crew in
the house for the next.

Speaker 3 (00:16):
Is this a three or four hours? Three? We're doing three?

Speaker 2 (00:19):
Just want to make sure it's a three hour show.
Some reason I had in my head that maybe four
hours today.

Speaker 3 (00:27):
I'm bone it's sour. Why not it's a Thursday.

Speaker 2 (00:30):
Yeah, I just I don't know. I don't know why
I had that in my head. Dan, Good morning to you,
Good morning to you.

Speaker 3 (00:34):
Doug.

Speaker 2 (00:36):
By the way, we're broadcasting live from sunny southern California,
which is was my home, not my home, so it's
good to be back with the boys profed on the
ones and twos and our esteemed producer Hiker extraordinary Jason
Stewart who's at Dodgers, My Angels, my Brewers. Hey, can

(00:59):
we talk about something for a second. We're going to
get into the Taylor Swift on the on the podcast.
Right you joined the Kelsey's. I think that's it. I
think it's it's I mean, great sports talk morning radio fodder.

Speaker 3 (01:12):
It's awesome.

Speaker 2 (01:15):
But this George web Place Okay. So here's why it's
you have a lot of people talking about things that
they don't know. It's something that frustrates me a great deal.
But I actually live in the state of Wisconsin, and
I didn't know about George Webb. I am very fluent
in several other burger places that are Wisconsin. You know, Culver's,

(01:38):
I know the Culver's is also national, Freddy's which is
also national, but amazing burgers. I didn't know about this
George Web place. But I have a bunch of questions.

Speaker 3 (01:46):
Dan, Well, Doug, I'm gonna tell you, I'm not sure
I can answer them because it is more of a
Milwaukee thing than Wisconsin thing. So just a Milwaukee place, Yeah, yeah, yes,
And so when we talk about I know a little
of the history tied in with the Brewers' winning streaks
and what they've done, but I can't say I've ever

(02:08):
been to a George web restaurant. Okay, but here's the question.
So you get free what burger? You get free berger
A free burger if the Brewers win twelve in a row.

Speaker 2 (02:17):
And they won twelve in a row with a dominating
win yesterday over the Pittsburgh Pirates, right.

Speaker 3 (02:23):
Yes, and this is something that isn't just if USC
wins on Saturday, you get a free donut and then
it goes away the next year. This has been a
thing with George Webb for decades, even going back to
when the Braves were in Milwaukee. There was a tie
into it. But it's happened so infrequently that it becomes

(02:47):
such a huge story. But Brewer fans know about it
because of the history of nineteen eighty seven. It did
happen in twenty eighteen. But yes, the free hamburger on
the twelfth straight win has been the talk of the town.

Speaker 2 (03:00):
Okay, so you have to have a ticket in order
to get the burger. Anybody gets a burger.

Speaker 3 (03:06):
You could show up to a George Webb on a
specific day and anybody can get a hamburger.

Speaker 2 (03:12):
Okay. This is how you know your low budget, right.
If you're gonna get a free burger, do you get
the fries and a drink and pay for it or
do you just go No, just take some water. I
just want some water. I'm gonna have a bus. You're
talking to a guy.

Speaker 3 (03:27):
Chick fil A used to run a promo during the
college football season where if you wear a teen T shirt,
you'll get a free chicken sandwich. I went to a
couple different ones here in southern California. Move, I get it.
You're talking to it. You're talking to a guy who
in college? Do they does the Italian fast food chain

(03:49):
Fazzoli still exist?

Speaker 4 (03:51):
Don't know?

Speaker 3 (03:52):
Can we can we use the Google machine?

Speaker 5 (03:53):
I think it still does, but it is far far diminished.

Speaker 2 (03:58):
Yeah, I mean, like, who would have thought drive through spaghetti?
Probably not the best this idea, but in still Water, Oklahoma,
they closed at ten o'clock. And when your low budget,
you pull up and you order like the most I
just want like spaghetti and marinara. And then you pull
up you're like, hey man, you guys gonna throw away
all those breadsticks? Like, how about you throw some breadsticks in?

Speaker 3 (04:19):
Yeah?

Speaker 2 (04:19):
Yeah, chicken in there? How we just throw some chicken
in there? We used to do there with KFC as well.
Like you pull up, like, hey, nine fifty six, you guys,
you canna throw all that chicken away?

Speaker 3 (04:27):
Right?

Speaker 2 (04:27):
Just throw it out in the bucket, sir? You only
ordered a two piece? How about about fifteen biscuits as well?
I used to work in a mall in college. So
same thing. What are the cinep what's the cinnabon gonna
do with the cinnamon rolls that have sat in the
window the last four hours.

Speaker 5 (04:41):
Yes, I think Jimmy Johns has a system in place now,
at least it was when I still live near Jimmy
Johns where it's like all their bread that's about to
go a day old. I think you get a bunch
of it for like a buck.

Speaker 3 (04:53):
Yeah, I think that.

Speaker 2 (04:54):
I mean, you know, obviously give it away to homeless
and other places, but but I mean remove moving the
chance to have to transport it. That was the first
thing that came to my mind is how many of
my friends would go to like Dan multiple George Webbs,
Like they went to all five George Webbs, got five burgers,
and then you know your low budget if you just

(05:16):
going no, no, just have the burger. You know, a fries,
you know a drink? Nope, just the burger, Just the burger.

Speaker 3 (05:25):
The gosh. I think it was in nineteen eighty seven, well,
in nineteen eighty seven of the brewers that opened the
season with thirteen straight wins. It's one of the most
storied pieces of Milwaukee brewer history. But I saw a
clip from a newscast from that year where they thought
they were going to have to give away one hundred
and ten thousand Hamburgers because of that streak, and I

(05:47):
would assume that this would be a lot more.

Speaker 2 (05:49):
And it's been a crazy, like a couple of days
in Milwaukee for people don't know. Was it Saturday night? Yeah,
Saturday night, massive flooding that went into sun and a
little bit Monday as well. And then you factor in
this unbelievable season that they're having where they've won twenty
eight of their last thirty two baseball games, twenty eight

(06:11):
of last thirty two baseball and the juxtaposition of a
small market franchise versus, for example, the Dodgers. Sorry to
do this to you there, Jay stew but and the
Dodgers they're not terrible, but man, you get swept by
the Angels and now you get the Padres next, and
they spent a bajillion dollars on their baseball team. It's

(06:34):
one of those.

Speaker 3 (06:34):
That's that's baseball, right, Yes it is, But there is
something in the water. There's something that's going on in Milwaukee.
Yes it's great, Yes, it truly is. And it is.
It's one of those stories for most recent history. I
think kind of how the Royals kind of captured Kansas City.
It feels that way from afar In just talking to

(06:58):
my friends back in Milwaukee. But Doug, remember Bob Buker
passes away in January, So now there's this whole thinking
of they're having some help from above. Everybody that has left,
whether it be Craig Council, Corbyn Burns suffers the injury.
It's a couple of years ago, but still he was
a brewer that you thought could be a brewer for

(07:19):
a long time. Devin Williams goes to New York. All
of the guys that left are kind of crapping out
right now, maybe not Council as much, but still Brewers
now have a seven and a half game lead on
the Cubs in the central where all of these new
guys that come in and Drew Vaughn, Quinn Priester, all
these guys who are having resurgent sort of years, Like

(07:41):
where did that come from? Yeah, there's there's something going on,
and I think that's that's gonna be a story You're
probably gonna start to hear a lot of over the
over September and hopefully Brewers fan for Brewers fans into
October and maybe even longer. But it's been a crazy,
crazy season with all these things.

Speaker 2 (07:59):
Intertwenty Mbyrum, Doug Gottlieb, Jason Stewart and the Crew and
Chris Prefett here Dan Patrick Show, Fox Sports Radio, iHeartRadio
app Yeah, I'm gonna go to the doubleheader Monday at
Wrigley because they play I think they play five against
the Cubs. Yeah, right, they played five against the Cubs.
So as much as it feels like it's either gonna

(08:19):
be it's it's gonna be, you know, a runaway or
it could be close in a in a week.

Speaker 3 (08:27):
Well, you tell me you've been down there. You were
down there recently. Yeah, in American Family Field time I
go is the time the Cubs beat them. I went
to the day game.

Speaker 2 (08:35):
Sure, but there's there's a vibe. I mean they've yes,
they've well, they're selling out. It's the atmosphere is awesome.
If you haven't been to that place, I think that
place is super cool, super cool, kind of a weird
I mean it's not a weird location, but it's not
the in the most New Age stadiums built in downtown.
It's not it's you know, ten minutes outside of downtown

(08:55):
or whatever. But uh, first, I love that place. I
think it's really cool. And you know, the windows get
all fogged up when they close it. There's no air
conditioning in the summer. When they open it, it's spectacular.

Speaker 3 (09:07):
But yeah, I.

Speaker 2 (09:07):
Mean, Matt Arnold's built a team that's really athletic and
they make plays. And part of this recent streak has
been done without Misowski. Yes, hey, the young pitcher that
everybody said is the best young arm and baseball outside
of Paul Skeens has not been pitching in the rotation.
I think we think he's missed her two starts or so.
And you you mentioned Matt Arnold, I left out another name.

(09:30):
And talking about the guys who have gone elsewhere. David Stearns,
for years when he was in charge of the Brewers'
front office, was rumored to be the apple of the
eye of so many different teams kind of steps aside,
lets Matt Arnold take over, and then ultimately Sterns leaves
and goes and takes over the Mets, and the Mets
right now are having their own issues to deal with
So there's another.

Speaker 3 (09:48):
Name to add to the list of everybody. That is
the people that have left Milwaukee that are finding tougher
times than what the Brewers have. Right now, their run
differential is plus one point fifty nine. It's it's a
real ding. It's a real thing. It's not they're not
winning one run just one run games. Okay, here's what
I want to do. Let's let's talk to Kelsey podcast. Okay.

Speaker 2 (10:11):
So the first thing is it's like a competition with
Rogan and Trump, right for how many what live views
and then overall views?

Speaker 1 (10:22):
Jay Stu?

Speaker 3 (10:22):
Is that is that right?

Speaker 2 (10:23):
We had this discussion I think two days ago. Is
uh Rogan having Trump on? I believe is the most
downloaded podcast in American podcast our audio history, right, So, like,
do we care about that level of competition? Dan, you

(10:43):
listened to it in its entirety? I watched most of it. Yeah,
I put it on the TV last night.

Speaker 3 (10:49):
What'd you think? It was a lot longer than I thought.
I thought it was going to be like fifty minutes,
and it ended up being a two hour podcast. I
thought that at the end of it, but I was
curious on what was the goal of it was it
for football fans to learn about Taylor Swift or for
Taylor Swift fans to be brought into the Kelsey world.

(11:11):
And I think that there was a bit of both
happening there. I still am wondering. Ultimately, I think it
was the better opportunity for Taylor Swift and her fans
to hear her stuff on a platform that was safe
for her in a way where and I don't mean
this in a negative way, but to form an image

(11:33):
that she wanted to portray because she could feel more
natural and not necessarily feel like she was going to
get blindsided by anything. So I thought it was a
very comfortable situation. The most uncomfortable person I thought was
Travis because I thought Jason did a great job in it,
but he almost played the part of the third wheel
because he was so much about Taylor and her learning
football and talking about the new album.

Speaker 2 (11:55):
You know, here's the first thing I think we need
to get to. There was for a long time there
was this is a sham, right, this is a sham.
Is Travis is really smart? You know, he did the
reality show Dating thirty two women, you know, back in
the day. You know, Travis has done a lot of

(12:15):
things that have brought a lot of publicity outside of being.

Speaker 3 (12:18):
A great football player.

Speaker 2 (12:19):
There was a thought for a good amount of time
that this was just kind of a publicity stunt, right,
are we okay putting that to bed?

Speaker 3 (12:29):
Yes?

Speaker 2 (12:30):
Okay, Jay stew you were for a long time and
I know you changed probably six months ago, nine months ago. Whatever,
Are you okay completely putting that to bed?

Speaker 6 (12:40):
Yeah?

Speaker 7 (12:40):
No, I'm I love love and I could I could
see love. And I think that was one of the
takeaways that I got watching this thing is that these
two thirty somethings are giddy and love, which goes against
my initial instinct that this was a sham for publicity.
I fully apologized about six months into that, by the way,

(13:03):
and that was my takeaway last night. These are like
two teenagers in love, and who doesn't like seeing that?

Speaker 3 (13:13):
Nobody? Nobody.

Speaker 2 (13:14):
And to answer your question, Dan, I think those are
all ancillary benefits. I mean this, I here's here's my
just a guess. Okay, it's a guess. It's they do
this podcast, and there's always been a you should come
on the podcast.

Speaker 3 (13:29):
I don't know, you know, do I.

Speaker 2 (13:31):
Think that that it brings Taylor Swift fans to a
safe platform where you learn about her this this side
of her. Yes, do I think it blows up the
podcast where now like that's a that's a staple, you know,
people put in their queue that never put into que before,
and the download numbers from here historically, no matter who

(13:54):
they have on will be yes. But I gotta tell you,
these are all really rich people. They were going to
be successful anyway, And I just think it's probably fun
to do something that you've never done before with somebody
who's your boyfriend, who you trust with his brother, and
they're all they're funny, and she probably always wanted to

(14:17):
do it, and they're like, you know what, let's just
do it right before football season, you know, when you
got you got a little space.

Speaker 3 (14:23):
Let's just have fun and see how it goes.

Speaker 2 (14:25):
I honestly think that's the It's like we all think
everybody's calculated, and maybe they are. Maybe they are, but
there's also the in my mind, I don't think it
was a calculated move. I think it was Taylor's always
wanted to do it, She's got time to do it,
it'd be fun to do.

Speaker 3 (14:41):
Let's just do it. I think it was calculated in
the fact that the album was going to be announced.
I don't think that there was a grand scheme to
try to pull the wool over anyone's eyes. But Jason
Kelcey did start the podcast by saying, I'm sorry. We lied.
We said we were going to come back on August
twenty seventh, but things change, plans change, and this is

(15:02):
the reason why. And so they do the podcast two
weeks prior to when they said they were going to
resume the podcast, and then it's the two hour conversation
with Taylor Swift. So I agree with much of what
you said. I know we've got a little of what
the podcast sounded last night, and I don't know if you.
I thought Jason did a really good job in talking
about and asking her about the music portion of it.

(15:24):
At one point he kind of told Travis to shut up.
But it was also interesting that here Taylor Swift actually
talk about her football learning experience and what she didn't
know and now what she does know.

Speaker 2 (15:34):
For for forty years, Tyrak has been helping customers find the
right tires for how, what and where they drive. She
fastened free back by free Road and has protection with
convenient installation options like mobile tire inslation, tyraq dot com
the way tirebuking should be.

Speaker 3 (15:49):
We got that audio, Doug, here's Taylor Swift.

Speaker 8 (15:52):
So that I became like a person who was running
through the halls of my house screaming. We drafted xavier'
worthy like, what is who? Body snatched you?

Speaker 3 (16:04):
This is?

Speaker 9 (16:04):
This is?

Speaker 8 (16:05):
What do you mean?

Speaker 3 (16:07):
We drafted you're worthy?

Speaker 4 (16:09):
I forget where it was, but you were the first
person to tell me that.

Speaker 1 (16:14):
No.

Speaker 4 (16:14):
I was screeching.

Speaker 8 (16:14):
I couldn't believe it. I was freaking out.

Speaker 4 (16:17):
We're talking about like, I'm like, wait to see she right?
I had to look this up. I'm like, she does
she get the wrong information here? Yeah? We traded up.

Speaker 8 (16:24):
We're talking about cover two, cover four, Cover zero, man covered.
We're talking. We're learning. I continue to learn.

Speaker 4 (16:31):
Maybe somebody else that even knows what those coverages are.

Speaker 8 (16:33):
I'm not ready to be an analyst right now, but
give me sixteen months. I thought I thought that the.

Speaker 4 (16:42):
Quarterback, that's how you played it on the on the
playground growing up, So I understand if you hadn't like.

Speaker 8 (16:47):
No, you don't understand. I thought it was like Jared
Goff is here and Josh Allen's here, and they're gonna
be like they blow a whistle and then they they
go at each other and they're.

Speaker 5 (16:59):
Like, I mean, who's gonna win?

Speaker 3 (17:03):
I would love to see Jared defense. Let's see. That's
some ideas.

Speaker 8 (17:08):
I've got some thoughts.

Speaker 3 (17:11):
Uh, we'll get more on that of coming.

Speaker 2 (17:13):
I'm Doug Gottlieb's Dan byer in for Dan and then
it's today come up on the on the Dan Patrick Show.
Mark Dominic, former gentlem manager of the Tampay Buccaneers. What
does he think about how Shdor Sanders played and about
the Browns quarterback situation.

Speaker 1 (17:27):
Be sure to catch the live edition of The Dan
Patrick Show weekdays at nine am Eastern six am Pacific
on Fox Sports Radio and the iHeartRadio WAPP.

Speaker 3 (17:37):
PAULI Fools go here with Tony Foolsco.

Speaker 1 (17:39):
Yeah.

Speaker 9 (17:40):
As everybody knows, we're the hosts of the award winning
Paully and Tony Foolsco.

Speaker 4 (17:43):
Show.

Speaker 9 (17:44):
But instead of us telling you how great we are,
here's how Dan Patrick described us when he came on
our show.

Speaker 2 (17:49):
Quick, knowledgeable and funny, opinionated, what.

Speaker 1 (17:53):
What are you doing interrupting our promo Yeah, he wasn't
talking about you. You took those clips totally of context.

Speaker 9 (18:00):
Oh yeah, well after this promo, I'm gonna take you
out and beat you.

Speaker 3 (18:04):
Let me put this into context.

Speaker 1 (18:06):
Shut up.

Speaker 3 (18:06):
Yeah.

Speaker 9 (18:07):
Anyway, just listen to the Pauli and Toni Fusco Show
on iHeartRadio, Apple Podcasts or wherever you get your podcasts.

Speaker 2 (18:13):
YEA, good morning to you, Dan Patrick Show, Fox Sports Radio,
Dan Byron, The House, Jay stew in the House, Chrispophett,
The Ones and Twos, Beautiful morning in sunny Southern California.
Can't beat it, cannot beat it. Mark Domini is gonna

(18:33):
join us in a second. And I know, Dan, we
want to talk about Shadur moving moving forward.

Speaker 3 (18:41):
I do.

Speaker 2 (18:41):
I just think this is such a fascinating social experiment
because people want to make it about all these things
that it's not about, you know, and we have a
tendency to latch onto a story a year and it
becomes some sense of like the man trying to keep
somebody down, and yeah, I you know, you want to

(19:06):
talk about whether he's a victim or not. And that's
really what we do. It's like, yeah, I why is
why are we this way? I think as sports fans.
Is it politics creeping in? Is it a societal problem?
But we make it into being about something it's not about,

(19:28):
you know, all this social stuff and whatever. I mean,
I'm just wondering why you think that we have this
pattern as Americans that we pick like one guy per
year and we make it about something it's not about.

Speaker 3 (19:44):
Yeah, it's it's I'll tell you what. It's been a
bit of a whirlwind this week, and I don't think
that Shador has really had a part of it.

Speaker 2 (19:51):
It's everything that's around Shador. Let's welcome in, Mark Dominic.
He joins us on the Doug Gottlieb Show on a
weekly basis. So we thought let's bring him on the
Dan Patrick Show because he it's awesome. He's former gentle
manager tamp Bay Buccaneers twenty plus years the nash Football League.

Speaker 3 (20:04):
You named the job.

Speaker 2 (20:05):
He's had it and still works, it still covers it,
still knows it. Mark, let me just ask you first,
in terms of watching the All twenty two, what do
you think of how Shador played in their opening exhibition game?

Speaker 4 (20:19):
Well?

Speaker 6 (20:19):
Thanks having me on, guys. I think he played well.
I mean, when you go back and you look for
some of the ball placements where yeah, where there's some
throws he'd like to have back. Of course every quarterback,
especially their first time, but just in terms of the
arm movement of the ball, velocity, the little pieces, it
was like, Okay, that's encouraging. That's what I kind of
envisioned Chador to try to look like to be when

(20:41):
you're playing out there for the Cleveland Browns. And so
I was I took it away as game. You know what,
I think he'll be a starter for the Cleveland Browns.
It won't be Week one, but I do think he'll
start this year for Cleveland.

Speaker 3 (20:50):
What does it mean for Dylan Gabriel because he's the
third round pick and seems to be in this quarterback sandwich,
if you will, between everybody else. But what does it
mean for the third rounder?

Speaker 6 (21:00):
Well, I mean, I know there's whatever. There's some type
of rumor that they're possibly going to trade Dylan Gabriel.
You know, he's got to give to the football field.
He's you know, hopefully getting healthy now get back out there. Look,
they're going to keep three quarterbacks. I think they'll they'll
keep Joe flaccol, They'll keep the two rookies and they'll
let this thing play out over time. There's no rush
here for Cleveland. They're wanting to see both guys kind

(21:21):
of progress and see what they can do. But for
whatever reason, Cleveland has the injury at quarterback and it
just can't get away from it. We've seen this before,
right with the Ravens, you know again at the corner,
But the Ravens have had that kind of an injury
situation where you've seen the Ravens and the running backs
all the way down or that you know, now the
DB's are going down for the Ravens for whatever horrible event.
For the Cleveland Browns, it's now their quarterback position can't

(21:43):
stay healthy.

Speaker 2 (21:43):
So I mean, we have you mentioned Deshaun Watson, who's
like training come back from an Achilles' tear that heat
tore and then re injured as he was rehabbing. Everyone
who's a Cleveland Brown quarterback seems to be injured. Okay,
let's let's let's scatter around the league a little bit.

(22:04):
There's growing concern at least when you read when you
watch about Caleb Williams. What have you heard in regards
to how they feel like he's doing with a new
system in Chicago.

Speaker 6 (22:16):
Well they're gonna There's not much they can say but
that they're hopeful, like they think that things are going
to go well. Obviously it sounds like the starters are
playing again this week and the Caleb's going to get
out there and show what he can do. Uh you know,
well we'll know Doug and oats hard you know watching
a practice. Uh you know, you know, saying things. It
hasn't been the best of press conferences. You haven't heard

(22:37):
the Jaden Daniel's like Wow, look at how hard he's
worked and he's put all this effort in. It's just
kind of like, Okay, you know, we've got to figure
out what we can do with this guy. You know,
this is a make or break yere. He's been out
there on the field last year, He's now on the
field this year. You know, I've always said I've always
worried if he's going to put enough time into it.
I'm sure he's put good time into it. I really

(22:59):
as a former GM and anything, I just I want
to see him the regular season. I want to see
how he reacts, how much is he growing Because you
as we all know, like year one to year two
is the leap for players. It just is because the
fact is they're not worried about vertical jump, they're not
worried about forty times. They're not on these visits sorts
of these different you know, you know, pro teams trying
to figure out who likes him. They're focused on the

(23:20):
playbook and how to learn it and how to grow.
And so if Caleb Williams comes it out and starts slow,
it's a huge concern that they've got this quarterback picked wrong.
But if he comes out and he plays consistent, because
again he played good comparatively to Trevor Lawrence, this is
for sure Caleb Williams played well. It's just that we've
got him on a pedestal and there's so much potential
there in the tough division. We'll see if you can
take the next step. I'm concerned because I never felt

(23:42):
like he could in the first place.

Speaker 3 (23:43):
I don't disagree with you, But the one thing that
rubs me the wrong way mark about this is Ben
Johnson's got his new de oak his first year, you know,
five year contract. Ryan Poles now gets an extension to
line up with that. Why so quick to move off
of Caleb considering how much of a disaster last year was, Like,

(24:03):
how can we really take last year and count it
against him? Considering Shane Waldron was dismissed mid season, eber
Flus is gone, you know, in his first year, Like
how much can we really hold last year against Caleb Williams.

Speaker 6 (24:17):
A little bit? And that's what I said, and I
agree with Dan. I think that when you watched last
year's overall production, I think because Jane Daniels played so well,
we kind of like Caleb really struggled. Caleb actually played
pretty good as a rookie, you know, as with everything
that you're talking about and how he performed. Just like
I said, the trick is does he take a step
in a Ben Johnson offense. It's just that it hasn't

(24:38):
felt warm and fuzzy, right. It hasn't felt like everyone's
kind of wrapped their arms around Caleb, like this has
been amazing and we're really excited. It's been more of
a little bit hands off, like we're work in progress
were you know, we're trying to get more consistent, you know,
those kind of things. So you just read the peat
leaves and say, okay, let's see I mean, Caleb Williams
is starting quarterback for this year and probably next year
no matter what, because you take a guy Nmber one

(25:00):
overall and you're going to give him every shot. I mean,
I remember as a GM, I drafted a corner in
the third round and he got four years to try
to become a starting cornerback. If you'd have been drafted
in the six round, I probably would have cut him
after the first time. Try to put him on the
practice squad so where your cake and gives you that
opportunity to stay longer. And even if it's frustrating for
fans to sit there go iy's a bum. Well, you
know what, Ryan Foles can get fired too. It's like

(25:21):
players get cut after one year of a you know,
an extension a GM doesn't mean that they're going to
stay just because they got an extension. Owners can afford to,
you know, eat these contracts like never before. You know,
ten years ago, it was hard to you know, if
he did an extension for a player to move away
from that player. Now you can use them manipulate it
through this hour cap and where the numbers are. J. J.

Speaker 2 (25:40):
McCarthy's the what's the reaction up there?

Speaker 6 (25:45):
Yeah, you know, it's it feels like it's been good.
You know, I didn't if everything feels like it's like, okay,
you know, he's going to be able to do it
a little bit. I've watched and the practice throws. You know,
I've been very encouraged by where he's putting the ball
in the way he's you know, decisions he's making. I
think it's good. You know, do I think it's like wow,
you know, we have another je Daniels. I don't know
about that, but I certainly feel like, just like Chicago

(26:08):
should have hope, I think they have hope in Minnesota.
It hasn't been you know, all this doom and gloomer,
like what's wrong with JJ McCarthy. It's more like we
just want to see it. But from what it feels like,
I think they're a good spot to kind of.

Speaker 3 (26:20):
Take a bird's eye of. You Mark Dominic joining us
here on the Dan Patrick Show on Fox Sports Radio.
If you look at that whole division, So you got
Detroit now with two new coordinators. We just talked Vikings
and Bears. Now, Jordan Love's got a thumb deal with
the Packers. As you see it right now, where do
you stand with the four teams in placing as we're
a couple of weeks away from the start of the
regular Yeah.

Speaker 6 (26:41):
It's an amazing division. You know. It feels like Minnesota
and Chicago are you know, are battling for who's going
to end up third or fourth, And it feels to
me like Green Bay and Detroit as good as Minnesota
was last year. I just feel like Detroit depending on,
you know, the health of that defensive line and if
it can come back is the key to the difference, right,
And so I like the Packers though. I like Jeff

(27:03):
Hafley what he's done on defense. You talk about a
coordinator has been able to stay there and now the
guys understand what he's asking to do. You've got consistency.
It's a quarterback spot. You've got all these young guys
growing up together. I like what the Packers are. I
think they're a nod above Detroit as good as Detroit is,
and either one of those two teams can represent the
NFC in the Super Bowl in my opinion. But I'm
going to lean towards the Packers because I just love

(27:25):
the ways they've built this roster and how it's all
growing up together at the same time, and it feels
like a team that's going to be relevant for the
next four or five years for sure. And I believe
in Jordan Love and I think that he's got a
chance to, you know, take his game to another level.
And so with Luke Musgrave back, you know, now with
you know, Matthew Golden, I just think that the points

(27:45):
are going to be very hard to overcome for the
Packers because they're going to score enough. I mean, opponents
are gonna have hard time putting up to the mount
of points that I think the Packers can.

Speaker 3 (27:53):
Okay, Matt Stafford, what's your read on on the Rams quarterback?

Speaker 6 (27:58):
I think they're just being very cautious, right. They got
to get him to week one, so they're just going
to like, you know, say what we need to hear,
you know everything. But Matt Stafford to me, will walk
up the ton of week one and play quarterbacks for
the Rams. He won't play in the preseason. This is
Stenson Bend. It's up to the show that he's worthy
of the fourth round pick and can be the number two.

(28:18):
But Stafford, I think will be fine. I don't think
this is something that's going to continue to linger out.
I think it's just one of those things that they're
being overly cautious with them because they understand the whole
season that is relying on him.

Speaker 3 (28:29):
What is their view of this year? Because this has
been my thing with the Rams. If Doug's heard me
say it, Jason's heard me say it. I think they
were close last year on the scoreboard in beating Philadelphia.
I don't know how close they were, but now in
the NFL, it seems like if you have a shot,
do it. It's why I thought they brought Stafford back.
How close are they And for a team that less

(28:53):
need has been a mover and shaker, they got two
number ones in twenty twenty six. Would there ever be
a point where they would be like, all right, Stafford's healthy.
Maybe maybe we look in another way at the Rams
kind of their big picture.

Speaker 6 (29:06):
Yeah, I think I think they've got to They're trying
to stay in that window with the most difficult position
at all. Right, we see teams a lot of times
like Josh Allen's going to it now.

Speaker 4 (29:17):
Right.

Speaker 6 (29:18):
The Bills have since spent a fortune of money trying
to keep the crew together, and then what's going to
happen is those guys are going to come out and
they're going to try to do it again. Patri Mahomes
is on the second wave of that right now, right
in terms of like he's coming to the league. They
had a shot to go to get Super Bowls and
then they had to like readjust the roster, and now
they're doing that right now in Kansas City and they're
still relevant. The Rams are the kind of that they've

(29:38):
readjusted the roster, except the quarterback is the aged one
instead of a younger guy like Mahomes or Josh Allen
or Lamar Jackson. And so I think the reason why
they have two number ones is that they know that
next year's draft they've got to do something and they
know they have to do it at that position, and
so they got the extra ammunition to be able.

Speaker 4 (29:54):
To do that.

Speaker 6 (29:55):
I think they've planned on that this is Stafford's last
season and that's why I think they're being safe with him.
But I I think the building blocks are there. This
team does have a very young, explosive defense. It's very exciting,
you know, getting the running back taking care of it,
a club friendly deal huge for them. So I think
that you'll see them change that position out through the draft.
I don't think they'll go for the veteran, like take

(30:16):
the picks and go get a veteran or or somebody
that's been somewhere else. I think they'll pick their own
guy in the twenty twenty sixth draft to be the
next starter for the Rams.

Speaker 2 (30:24):
James Cook signs a four year extension, and this is
a it's a weird one, right because he's only in
He's only in year four of a five year rookie contract.
And I thought the is very telling that the agent's
name were in the tweet and chapter's tweet, right, So
hey with us, we went out there, we did this.
It's it says thirty million dollars guaranteed when you have

(30:46):
that fifth year option out there, right, So he was
going to get paid more money next year. Anyway, What
do you think the details actually look like in terms
of this extension for a guy who has back to
back thousand yard seasons.

Speaker 6 (30:59):
Yeah, so you know, James actually honors the rookie deal.
It's a four year deal, that's what it is. The
next year would be the franchise tag for him. You know,
the first round is obviously get the fifth year option
for them. So James was you know, he's going into
his last season and what's in front of him is
that franchise tag, which is a significant number. To me,

(31:21):
the holding was pointless if they're going to sign four
years for eight million. I think that was on the
table the whole time. I don't think there's any way
that wasn't on the table. I think the Bills just
put their heels in and say, hey, look, take it
or leave it. And I think what really happened behind
the scenes was James Cook was trying to get sixteen
to eighteen a year and the Bills were laughing, going
we're not giving you that. We're just it's not going
to happen. I mean, thinking that this way Zach Killer,

(31:44):
who's the agent for you know, James Cook was Dalvin Cook.
So Dalvin Cook's agent. Right when Dalvin Cook did his
deal with the Minnesota Vikings five years ago, Dalvin Cook
got more money than James Cook got today when the
salar Caps jumped sixty seventy million. So this is not
a great deal. This is nothing to beat your chest on.

(32:05):
You know, he's the agents trying to say, hey, well,
James always envisioned himself as a Buffalo Bill. That's why
we had to do it. Nea Baloney too. He took
the deal that they put in front of you. You
were scared to play it out, which I understand. I'm
not going to be mad at James Cook. It's forty
eight million potential dollars, but the reality is he left
three to four million dollars on the field if he
goes to free agency next year, because I think somebody

(32:25):
pays him fifteen sixteen million. But good, good for Buffalo
Bill's good for James Cook. But it's not one where
the agent should be beating his chest. And I did
a good job because it's just it's just kind of
a deal at the ramback spot where it's good money.
Again to the average American it's like huge money. But
to the running back market. By these last two extensions,
you know Karen Williams obviously in the Rams and now

(32:46):
James Cook, they continue to push that market's going down.
It's only eleven twelve million a year. That's kind of
what the market is.

Speaker 2 (32:52):
I guess, yeah, No, that was more My point, Mark
is that I think because of the success of Saquon
Barkley and Josh Jacob and guys that had come to contract, Impasses,
Dereck Henry. There's this thought, Oh, it's going to change
the running back market, and then Saquon gets you know,
they tear up his deal and re up it. Like, No,
it's pretty much the same. The evaluation is the same,

(33:16):
and if anything, it's actually lower because as you point out,
the salary cap has jumped substantially.

Speaker 6 (33:21):
You just have to do you have as a running back.
I know it's hard as an agent. It's easy for
us to sit here and talk about it. You have
to get to free agency, have thirty one other club's
bit on you, or you're going to take eleven to
twelve million dollars deal because that's what clubs are going
to offer. So you've got to just decide what do
you want to do. Do you want to get paid
or do you want to see what your value is?
Two different things. Running Backs, if they really want to

(33:41):
get paid, they've got to get to free agency at
a young age like they are Like James Cooker Williams
would be would have been No again, No, they got
to secure their bag. They want to get their money.
I can get it no big deal. But we're not
going to see a market change until somebody pushes they
envelop and says I'm going to free agency.

Speaker 2 (33:57):
That's Mark Domini, former gentlemennager of Tampay Buccaneers. Can hear
him weekly in the Doug Gottlieb Show. Mark you the

a throwback Thursday. What's that mean? We'll help you understand.

Good morning to you Dan Patrick Show, Fox Sports Radio.
Did you guys know what yesterday was on Comedy Central?
Anybody was south Park Day? It was south Park Day?
Apparently south Park and it was pre planned, they say,
took the week off even though should have been the second

(34:54):
week of their thirteenth season, right, and that's after record
ratings because of you know, the week one was took
shots at the president at a bunch of political political
stories or whatever, and it's hysterical, and so of course
you like, don't you want to follow up on this momentum?

(35:14):
And apparently they just instead ran south Park Day all
the south Parker. That's where we are in two thousand,
in twenty ten or twenty in twenty twenty five. That's
where we are as a country, as a people, right,
where political commentary or political comedy is on south Park. Right,

(35:35):
that's where we do realize, like we need to take
a snap shot. How do we get to this place?
Simpson's projects The future south Park is a snapshot of
the now in terms of political commentary. That's kind of
a fascinating thing, isn't it?

Speaker 8 (35:55):
All?

Speaker 2 (35:56):
Right, so we do that's of now. Something we do
on the Doug Gottliebs Show on a weekly basis on
Thursdays is we look back.

Speaker 1 (36:07):
Don't call it a throwback.

Speaker 2 (36:09):
This is Jan Byer's mind, Jason Stewart's creation. Jase, do
take it away? I want no, No, You're supposed to
do the Jay Stu thing.

Speaker 3 (36:22):
Uh, go ahead, throw it to me, Jason Stewart, Thank you, dog.
I'ta take it from here.

Speaker 7 (36:29):
I want everybody listening to this right now to go
back to twenty ten. All the members of this show
working on the show right now, and I want all
the listeners to go back to twenty ten. We're gonna
don't call it a throwback.

Speaker 3 (36:42):
Thursday Byer, where were you twenty ten? Twenty ten? You're
hard knocks?

Speaker 1 (36:49):
Eric?

Speaker 7 (36:50):
The famous Jets season. I think that was peak hard knocks.
I think we haven't seen anything since. It's certainly awful
this Seasonlet's go get a gd snack?

Speaker 3 (37:01):
Right, wasn't that?

Speaker 4 (37:02):
Was that?

Speaker 7 (37:02):
That's exactly what it is. Let's get a bleeping snack
was the main takeaway. And then Antonio Cramarti's struggling to name.

Speaker 3 (37:11):
All of his kids' names.

Speaker 7 (37:12):
That's eight kids was maybe the most humorous takeaway the
whole thing. But hard knocks peak hard knocks twenty ten,
Dan Byer, what do you remember most about that sports
here twenty ten? Twenty ten?

Speaker 3 (37:26):
Doug. I'm sorry to steal your territory, but whenever I
think of twenty ten, I think of the twenty ten
final four and what could have been with Duke and
Butler and Gordon Hayward's half court shot that did not fall.
But when I think of twenty ten, I think of
how Cinderella almost shocked the world in college basketball.

Speaker 2 (37:48):
Yeah, and it's amazing the narrative of that final four, Right,
it's the Cinderella who is actually a preseason like top
ten team, and they're right down the street from Amtra,
you know, twenty minutes away from their campus. But and
the and we talk about that shot not going in

(38:10):
more than we talk about you know what what Duke did.
By the way, Dous intentionally missed the second free throw
that would have made a three point game. It was
a mistake by Mike Krzyzewsky, Like it was a huge mistake,
which he's sort of owned afterwards. Where would I do
it again? Okay, because remember Brian Zubek was at the

(38:34):
free throw line and he makes the first, they're up
two points. He intentionally misses the second, and the narrative was, well,
miss a second because you know, Brad Stevens got all
these plays like yeah, but all of a sudden, now
you put losing on the table. That shot goes in
you lose. As opposed, if you make the free throw
and the shot goes in, it goes to overtime.

Speaker 3 (38:54):
One of the odds. Gordon Yedward's going to make a
half court shot, right, that's one of the odds.

Speaker 2 (38:59):
Oh so there's there's a lot to it. But yes,
that was That was probably peak Cinderella. It was was Butler.
It's crazy because I think of that before.

Speaker 3 (39:08):
I think of Celtics Lakers seven game series and kind
of what a clunker Game seven was. But when we
talk about basketball in that world, I think more of
the Final Four than the NBA Finals.

Speaker 7 (39:17):
Well, of course, the NBA Finals, as the Lakers just
beat the Celtics, was overshadowed by something called the Decision.
July eighth, twenty ten, Lebron James sits down with what's
his face and analysis that he's going to take his
talents to Miami piss out all of Cleveland and most

(39:40):
of the sports world.

Speaker 2 (39:41):
Okay, so do you know where we have talked about this,
but the audience doesn't know that. I was guest hosting
for Jim Rome on Rome is Burning when the announcement
came down. And here's what's interesting about it. Two days before,
I was on ESPN's campus and I was walking with

(40:01):
Scott Van Pelt and Chris Carter was walking the other way.
We're like on a sidewalk, right, We're walking from the cafeteria,
I think it was called Building four, and we're like,
what up.

Speaker 3 (40:11):
CC.

Speaker 2 (40:12):
He's like, Hey, the King's going to Miami. And at
the time, no one had mentioned Miami had not been discussed, right,
There was lots of discussion about what he was going
to do. Miami was not one of the teams listed
as a possible destination. And and and by the way,

(40:33):
Dwayne Wade whatever he was, was it up and smoked
the podcast he was on where he was talking about
he was playing on going Chicago anyway, he was getting
out of Miami too. But Chris Carter was was tied
in the the former former colleague here at Fox.

Speaker 3 (40:51):
So that was an amazing one.

Speaker 7 (40:52):
So this is when Dan Bayer does something very impressive
on our show each week. I'm telling you right now,
believe me, for the listeners. There there's no script in
front of him, there's no Google, there's no phone. He's
about to tell you what happened in golf in twenty.

Speaker 3 (41:05):
Two I was at three of the four majors that year,
seeing Phil Mickelson win his third Green jacket. Then Graham
McDowell went to Pebble Beach and won the US Open,
missed out on Luis USTA's in winning the Open Championship
at Saint Andrews. But then it was Martin Kaimer over
Bubba Watson at Whistling Straits to win the PGA Championship.
Was also a Ryder Cup year where Team Europe on

(41:26):
a Monday finish beat Team USA at Celtic Manor in Wales.
Avatar was the big movie, Avatar.

Speaker 5 (41:34):
The Metrodome collapsed.

Speaker 2 (41:37):
Wow, yeah, that was remember remember Brett Brett Farv. It
was like all in epic kind of fashion, right, bet
Brett Farv. They brought him out of retirement.

Speaker 3 (41:45):
He got killed.

Speaker 2 (41:46):
Yeah, yeah, he looked like he had worn the same
hat he was mowing the lawn with when Chile went
down there and brought him back. Yeah, it was all
twenty ten. By the way, that was the beginning of
baseball kind of being good Farve impression too with Chile Chills, good.

Speaker 3 (42:01):
Chile, Chile.

Speaker 2 (42:03):
Those are the days, Those are the days, all right?
