always brought you by Panini America, the official trading card
said the Dan Patrick Show. I just saw this, and
we've talked about this. I wish, I hope that we
(00:52):
will get to what the NFL has a schedule maker
for college football because Week two it wasn't very good. Now,
I watched a lot of the Michigan Oklahoma game that
was fun, but for the most part.
Speaker 3 (01:08):
Great games, great matchups. They were.
Speaker 2 (01:13):
They were very limited. Here is the stat that stood out.
So the top seven teams in America. Top seven ranked
teams in America won by a combined score of three
hundred and seven to twenty six. The seven ranked teams
gave up a total of two touchdowns.
Speaker 3 (01:33):
Wow.
Speaker 4 (01:35):
Stall of a Day, Stall of a Day, Statuta Day,
Statuta Day.
Speaker 3 (01:41):
This is the start of the day.
Speaker 2 (01:46):
Brought to you by Panini America. Stat of the Day,
first hour brought to you by tire Rack. For over
forty years, they've been helping you find the right tires
for how and what and where you drive, ship fast
and free back by road hazard protection, convenient installation options
like mobile tire installation, tyrec dot com, The way tire
buying should be. Play the Day, stat of the Day,
(02:09):
poll question, all of that forthcoming. If you turned off
the TV last night, you're probably not alone. But the
Bills come back and surprise, surprise. It's hard to go
on the road and score forty points and lose. Baltimore
did that last night forty one forty. Now the Bills,
(02:29):
you might recall, they lost to the La Rams last year.
That was forty four forty two. In Week fourteen, and
then you have to go back to the Browns losing
at the Chargers. Week five of twenty twenty one teams
that have lost on the road scoring forty or more points.
(02:50):
In fact, since twenty nineteen, team scoring forty or more
points on the road as seventy two and three. That
was a great game last night. But if you're Baltimore,
you're a Ravens fan, and you put up forty points
at Buffalo and don't win, and you don't stop them
on you know, their their last few drives. Your last
(03:11):
three drives were punt fumble, punt.
Speaker 3 (03:15):
Man.
Speaker 2 (03:16):
That's got to be tough in film session today when
you're looking at that, because you had that game, You
had it, you should have won that game. But give
credit to Josh Allen for, you know, acting like an
MVP last night when you needed it the most. Here
he is after the game talking about the comeback they took.
Speaker 3 (03:36):
Everybody there.
Speaker 5 (03:37):
I'm just proud of our team for staying in it.
No one on the sideline blink, I mean, down fifteen
points whatever we were with five six minutes left, staying
with it, Fans leaving you know the stadium, you know
you gotta play this game for sixty minutes, and that's
that's a really good outfit that we just played. And
you know, God willingly we take care of business how
we're supposed to and how we think we will. You know,
(03:58):
it's probably a team we'll see again. So you know,
they're a greatly coached team. Hats off to them for
having a really good game plan. But you know, gotta
were stuck in there, and I'm just proud.
Speaker 3 (04:06):
Of our guys. Here's John Harball, the Ravens head coach.
Speaker 6 (04:10):
Are you disappointing. We're just going to have to regroup
and you're ready to go play a long season. We've
got sixteen games in front of us. Good football team,
tough environment. Obviously, we did many good things, but we
didn't play well at the end. Two big situations. The
fourth down play, I mean, that's kind of a play
that you don't really expect to happen. I mean, it
was pretty pretty lucky play, but they made it between
(04:33):
the scrambles. Josh Allen played a great game obviously, especially
at the end. That's it. We're disappointed, but we'll be fine.
Speaker 2 (04:41):
Yeah, you don't want to overreact, but then there are
certain situations where you might be overreacting today. If you're
a Dolphins fan, you're overreacting today. If you're a Colts fan,
you might be overreacting today since they blew out the Dolphins.
If you're the Lions, you don't want to overreact, even
though you lost your coordinators and you're a physical team
(05:02):
and Green Bay was more physical than you. If you're
a Packer fan, you don't want to overreact because you
should be good. But you're probably overreacting just a little
bit because you're like, damn, Michael Parsons, we're good, yes, Marvin.
Speaker 7 (05:18):
If I'm a Packers fan, I'm already looking for flights
in San Francisco in February.
Speaker 3 (05:24):
Rams over the Texans.
Speaker 2 (05:26):
I think the Rams are really good, and if Matthew
Stafford had a clean bill of health, I would have
picked them to play the Chiefs in the Super Bowl.
Speaker 3 (05:35):
They beat the Texans.
Speaker 2 (05:36):
The Texans need one of those bounce back years because
they were Darling's and then they fell off. They tapered
off a little bit. They need a bounce back. If
I'm a Jets fan, I might overreact just a little
bit and say, hey, okay, now here's the bad part.
You lost to Aaron Rodgers. If you would have lost
that game and Aaron Rodgers is in the quarterback, then
(05:58):
maybe you go, that's a moral victory. That's pretty good there.
But Aaron Rodgers coming back to town. And then Rodgers
was asked this question after the game.
Speaker 5 (06:08):
You spoke about the meeting with Aaron Glenn on Matti
Fie a few months ago, beating him in their significance
in nasense, he basically told you to your face.
Speaker 8 (06:17):
That he he didn't think you were right.
Speaker 9 (06:19):
For that team.
Speaker 8 (06:20):
Yes, that's what he did, So there's significance in beating
him for you.
Speaker 6 (06:24):
I was happy to beat everybody associated with the Jets.
Speaker 3 (06:28):
Now that's good.
Speaker 2 (06:30):
That was a measured, snarky response by Aaron Rodgers, and
Rodgers looked really good. But if I'm a Jets fan, okay,
justin Fields, they had him passing the ball more than
running the ball. The Chargers, you can overreact a little bit.
Speaker 3 (06:48):
You can't.
Speaker 2 (06:48):
I'll give you permission, not that you're asking for it,
but take all the time you want.
Speaker 3 (06:54):
And Justin Herbert.
Speaker 2 (06:55):
When Herbert was on the show a couple of weeks ago,
we talked about why doesn't he put pressure on the
defense the way Josh Allen does. And he did talk
about maybe running more this year, and I said, and
I brought up the Rose Bowl game when he was
at Oregon. By the way, Oregon just scored again against Oklahoma. No, yikes, pikes, Okay,
(07:20):
so you know, Justin Herbert should be putting pressure on
the defense by using his legs, and he did that
and that was a big win for them. I mentioned
college football that you know, a lot of these top teams,
you know, they were. By the way, Grambling State's banned
probably has more athletes than Grambling's football team. Yeah, I'm sorry,
(07:41):
I'm watching. And by the way, that's a damn good band.
Speaker 3 (07:44):
But that was it.
Speaker 2 (07:45):
Uh, you know, Hawaii Ohio State against Grambling. But you know,
some of these matchups Oklahoma Michigan was really good. And then, uh,
the Oregon Oklahoma State game. I'm watching and I'm going,
is this Oklahoma State Technical Institute or so, like, is
this a different Oklahoma State? And I saw Mike Gundhy
(08:06):
on the sidelines with his hair and I go, yeah.
Speaker 3 (08:08):
It's Oklahoma State. That was shocking.
Speaker 2 (08:14):
That was one of those Golly, I mean, Oregon's good.
Is Oklahma State that bad sixty nine to three. When
you look at all the scores and you're going, oh, yeah,
you know that team played you know this to you know,
you know that Ohio State against Graham. You know, nobody's
playing really competitive games Week two and then you go, oh,
(08:35):
Oregon won sixty nine against Oklahoma State.
Speaker 3 (08:40):
Oh my goodness.
Speaker 2 (08:41):
But there was a lot of football, good football, some
bad football as well. Florida, Florida Gators. That's tough. That's
a tough situation. And I'd say there's a Bunsen burner
underneath the coach Napier because that schedule, that's one of
(09:01):
the toughest schedules probably in the history of college football.
And I don't know how you survived that. And I
know he got the vote of confidence last year, but
I he can't survive. That's that's that's tough. I mean
the next three or four games Guest hun LSU.
Speaker 9 (09:20):
Miami, Texas, Texas A, and m those of the next
four for the Gears.
Speaker 3 (09:24):
Yeah, yeah, I mean, it doesn't get easier.
Speaker 10 (09:26):
Yeah, Paulie, there might be a couple head coaching openings
in Florida in football in the next two month.
Speaker 3 (09:31):
Yeah. Yeah.
Speaker 2 (09:33):
Mike McDaniel was already on the hot seat, and I
think he was the odds on favorite to be the
first coach fired.
Speaker 3 (09:41):
Uh you know.
Speaker 2 (09:42):
Watching the Giants with Brian Dable and Russell Wilson. But
this is what I don't want the Giants to do.
Put Jackson Dart in there right now. If Russell Wilson,
you know, is getting banged up, I don't want Jackson
Dart going in there. Show a little patience, have a
succession plan, that's all. Let RUSS play in September and
(10:05):
then put Jackson Dart in there. It's a tough schedule,
they have one of the toughest schedules in the NFL.
RUSS didn't play well. The defense is pretty good, but
I don't think Jackson Dart needs to be thrown in there.
I want to build up his confidence. I want him.
I don't need to go in there and crush his confidence.
(10:26):
I want to make sure that he gets an opportunity
when the team is ready to play.
Speaker 3 (10:31):
Yeah pulling.
Speaker 10 (10:32):
The New York Giants are at the Cowboys hosts, the
Chiefs host the Chargers. Then on October fifth, they are
at the Saints. Is that the Jackson Dart game? Local
crowd probably likes Jackson Dart a little bit played down
that way.
Speaker 3 (10:46):
I don't think I want him starting on the road.
Speaker 10 (10:49):
But then if it doesn't work out, the home fans
aren't involved.
Speaker 2 (10:53):
Yeah, but I think that they have to look at
this as I mean, he's not the savior yet. I
don't think you go, oh no, he can't play, or
we're doomed. I think you're kind of doomed anyway this year.
But if he's playing, I would like to have the
home support. I'd rather face a better team at home
(11:14):
than going on the road against the Sinks. All right, Seaton,
let's poll question from the first hour.
Speaker 4 (11:21):
Well, it might as well start off Monday, right, team
that had the worst weekend?
Speaker 2 (11:24):
Okay, so we're putting college and pro in there. We
could put anybody in Okay, yes, all right, Okay.
Speaker 3 (11:33):
To me, the.
Speaker 4 (11:34):
Clear favorite would be the Miami Dolphins. That was terrible.
Oklahoma State. Oklahoma State is most definitely in there. They
got humiliated.
Speaker 3 (11:46):
Lions.
Speaker 4 (11:48):
I would say that was a terrible weekend.
Speaker 2 (11:52):
Yeah, they weren't. They weren't threatening. I mean Green Bay
was a better team and more physical team. That was surprising.
And you're you know, Okay, you lose both coordinators, and
both coordinators go on to be head coaches, and you
lose Ben Johnson from that offense, and it showed they
didn't have that creativity. I think it was kind of vanilla.
(12:13):
But you know, maybe Green Bay. I mean that's a
defense led team. It's almost like defense. Green Bay is
defense and then offense, and it's usually the other way around.
Speaker 4 (12:25):
Yes, that game took place about forty eight hours after
you've made your Super Bowl pick. Yeah, how are you
feeling today?
Speaker 3 (12:32):
Not good?
Speaker 2 (12:33):
Because the Chiefs lost as well. Yeah. My initial two
teams were going to be Green Bay or the Rams
to face the Chiefs, and I just, you know what,
as much as I want another team in there, or
Buffalo to get a chance in there, or even the
Ravens to go, it's just hard to go against the Chiefs,
(12:54):
and I took the probably easy way out to go.
I'll go line in this situation, but I am rooting
for that storyline too.
Speaker 4 (13:03):
Yes, you want us to find a loophole for you
to No?
Speaker 2 (13:07):
No, okay, no no, because really the Rams are the
team that I wanted to pick.
Speaker 3 (13:13):
I love the Rams this year. I just Matthew Stafford.
Speaker 2 (13:17):
Like, part of my hot take was going to be
Jimmy Garoppolo leads the Rams to a Super Bowl victory.
Speaker 3 (13:27):
That's that's where I was going to go.
Speaker 8 (13:29):
What year is it?
Speaker 3 (13:31):
Exactly? But this wasn't going to be my hot take.
Speaker 2 (13:34):
It was going to be my real take that Garoppolo
will lead the Rams to a Super Bowl win. Now,
it's only I don't want to overreact week one. You know,
the Chiefs will be the Chiefs. They'll bounce back and
give credit to the Chargers. They played great. The Lions
just didn't look threatening, they didn't look physical and uh,
(13:58):
you know Micah Parsons, that's a big, you know, emotional
boost for them.
Speaker 9 (14:04):
Yes, Jude for the pole question, is there any room
for Clemson in victory early third quarter losing to Troy
sixteen to three, and how to bounce back to win
twenty seven to sixteen?
Speaker 10 (14:13):
Oh yeah, I'd like to jump on that. The Bengals
are a couple points away from being on the hour
one pole question. They got beat in the second half
by the Browns. Yeah, they escaped.
Speaker 2 (14:24):
I thought the Browns were going to win the game
starting the game just because why not, you know, And
here Are the Bengals always slow out of the gate?
Speaker 3 (14:34):
They didn't look they didn't look good. Brown should have
won that game. Yeah.
Speaker 4 (14:38):
See, well that's my other pole question. Here is a
loss that was really a win?
Speaker 2 (14:42):
Oh okay, hold that though, Let me take a break here,
savey after the prase winn he lost? Is it the
most winny loss or the most lossy win?
Speaker 4 (14:57):
Yeah, that's the flip side of that coin.
Speaker 8 (14:58):
It feels very lossy.
Speaker 2 (15:00):
Yeah, all right, let me take a break. Get to
your phone. Calls coming up, just getting started back after.
Speaker 1 (15:05):
This, be sure to catch the live edition of The
Dan Patrick Show weekdays at nine am Eastern six am
Pacific on Fox Sports Radio and the iHeartRadio app.
Speaker 11 (15:16):

LeVar Arrington and I couldn't be more excited to announce
a podcast called Up on Game? What is up on Game?
You ass along with my fellow pro bowler TJ. Huschman
Zada and Super Bowl champion Yup, that's right, Plexico birds.
You can only name a show with that type of
talent on it. Up on Game We're going to be
(15:38):
sharing our real life experiences loaded with teachable moments. Listen
to Up on Game with me LeVar Arrington, TJ. Hutschman,
Zada and Plexico Birds on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts
or wherever you get your podcast from.
Speaker 2 (15:57):
Here's a troubling stat if you're a Ravens fan. Since
twenty nineteen, the Ravens had lost five games when leading
by ten or more points in the fourth quarter, tied
with the Bears for most in the NFL over that span.
(16:20):
Thought you bought Panini America last night was a subtle
reminder you have to have an elite quarterback. Lamar Jackson
and Josh Allen put on a show and Jackson was great,
You put up forty points on the road, has that magic.
Derrick Henry looked great, had a bad fumble though, and
then you had Josh Allen nearly four hundred yards through
(16:41):
the air, sixteen unanswered points, delivering a one point win.
And this is vintage Josh Allen, fearless, improvisational, relentless. But
the lesson is really simple. You can have weapons, coaching matters,
defense matters, but when you have one of those guys
as your quarterback, that is a huge advantage. And you
(17:04):
saw that on display last night. All righty tonight, Vikings
at the Bears. This is one of those games that
if the Bears win, now all of a sudden, you
look at that division and you go, this is top
to bottom the best division, and it might be the
best division in football. But we're waiting for the Bears
to graduate. We're waiting for them to be a contender.
(17:27):
I thought they were going to be a playoff team
last year. Now you got a new coach in there.
Now you've got a coach who's going to coach up.
Caleb Williams. Now he's going to be the guy in
his ear going. You got this amount of time, get
rid of the ball, or you know, take a sack,
you know, or dump it. Whatever it's going to be.
Your clock has got to be going. I saw this
(17:49):
with cam Ward. This is what happens with rookie quarterbacks,
even second year quarterbacks, holding onto the ball too long.
Because when you're at incarnate word, you're able to hold
onto the ball a little bit longer, even at Miami,
a little bit longer. Not in the NFL. And this
is what happens with young quarterbacks. And you saw that
(18:10):
with cam Ward, and I did watch a little bit
of Jacksonville. I just wanted to see how they were
going to use Travis Hunter. And what was surprising. He
was on forty two offensive plays. He played defense on
six plays. Because coming out of the drafting, going into
the draft, he was going to be a surefire great
(18:32):
cornerback and he was going to be a situational wide receiver.
That's what we have been led to believe. Even my
friend who's a scout said he should be playing, you know,
predominantly on defense and then bring him in, you know, situations.
That's not the case. Forty two plays on offense and
he had six catches. But that now they Jacksonville needs offense,
(19:00):
and you just took the offensive coordinator from Tampa Bay.
You should be better offensively, and they might be saying,
and Travis at the end look great, So maybe that's
what they're Hey, let's lead with our offense here and
you know, maybe not as much defense here.
Speaker 10 (19:17):
Yeah, Paulie, I went back and looked this morning at
a bunch of different draft profiles of Travis Hunter, and
they lean the opposite away, like you were saying that
it'd be mostly defense and more worked in the offense
here and there.
Speaker 8 (19:29):
It seems to be the opposite.
Speaker 2 (19:30):
Yeah, but you know, the new head coach might be saying,
I can't waste that talent just on defense.
Speaker 3 (19:37):
I got to have him on offense.
Speaker 2 (19:39):
I have to have him help everybody here, including my
quarterback who is you know, we paid as a franchise
quarterback here, And I think maybe that's where they're leaning here.
Speaker 3 (19:50):
But by all accounts, it felt like, hey.
Speaker 2 (19:52):
He's a lockdown corner, he's he can be great at
that position. He's learning to be a wide receiver. I mean,
he's got that much talent. You got to have him.
Body language. By the way, Malik neighbors with his head
coach Brian Dable on the sideline. Now, I know these
moments happen. Tyreek Hill on the sidelines losing to the Colts.
(20:17):
I think one of my hot takes was he won't
be on the team by the trade deadline. I just
can't imagine. I can't imagine that if it's going to
go this way, and I know this is an over
it could even go well, and I don't know if
he'll still be on the team, But that was one
of those where you go, Okay, I think the Colts
(20:39):
are better than what people will give them credit for,
and maybe a playoff team. But I think we all
thought the Dolphins would put up points. You got Tua
and Waddell and Tyreek Hill and okay, but you got
nothing zilch out of that. All right, Seaton run down
the poll question. All the nominees today, team that had
(21:03):
the worst weekend? Right now, we've got four.
Speaker 4 (21:05):
We've got the Miami Dolphins, Oklahoma State, the Detroit Lions,
and the Florida Gators.
Speaker 3 (21:12):
Any any additions to that.
Speaker 4 (21:15):
No, but we do have another poll question. Either we're
going with loss that was a win or, as someone
on social media suggested, the most inspirational loss. It just
sounds so nice.
Speaker 3 (21:28):
Yay, we lost.
Speaker 4 (21:30):
I'm so inspired after that loss.
Speaker 2 (21:31):
It's going to be a movie like Rudy Y, you know,
but he loses in the end.
Speaker 3 (21:36):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (21:36):
You got the Jets losing to the Steelers thirty four
thirty two. Man, that felt pretty good, though, if you're
a Jets fan, I think yes, I think.
Speaker 3 (21:44):
Yes, yes. But you lost Aaron Rodgers. You did, that's
the only problem.
Speaker 4 (21:50):
That's not the guy you want to see taking a
victory lap week one.
Speaker 2 (21:53):
No, and then give a smug answer there just good
to beat everybody in the Jets organization.
Speaker 4 (21:59):
Everyone involve yes, organization, yes.
Speaker 2 (22:02):
Yeah, everybody, Joe nameath Richard Todd, I mean everybody here.
Speaker 3 (22:06):
Weave you bangs, Yes.
Speaker 10 (22:08):
Pauline, that's a winning loss by the Jets, because the
Jets are used to losing, their fans are used to losing.
They're not used to having a promising quarterback who's entering
his prime. And even though it's one game, justin fields
played about as well as you could expect.
Speaker 3 (22:20):
But Aaron Glenn's your defensive coordinator.
Speaker 2 (22:23):
You get from Detroit, and they didn't do a good
job stopping a quarterback that you personally didn't think could
be a quarterback for your team, one of the worst
teams in football. All right, So uh let's get a
couple of phone calls in here, Chris and Syracuse. Good morning, Chris.
How are you, buddy?
Speaker 3 (22:44):
We having problems with the phone, Marvin.
Speaker 2 (22:47):
Yeah, you got me, Damn oh okay, I'm doing well.
Speaker 10 (22:51):
Thank you.
Speaker 7 (22:51):
Dan.
Speaker 3 (22:51):
Hey, I've got a best and worse to throw at you.
I know it's only one game, but Daniel Jones did
look pretty good.
Speaker 10 (22:58):
And being a Viking fan, I read a lot last
year where our coach Kevin o'connelly only at them for
a couple of months.
Speaker 3 (23:03):
But they went over a lot of reading defenses, worked
on it.
Speaker 2 (23:07):
I think we got some issues there. It's a little choppy.
It's on our end, Chris. We'll see if we can
get that fixed here by the next commercial break. So
we'll try to get phone calls in here as we
always do. Best and worst of the weekend, and our
merchandise store is open for business. Go to Danpatrick dot
com and you can see all the new gear that
we have. There's so many great stats after an NFL
(23:30):
and college football weekend. That one where the top seven
ranked teams won by a combined score of three oh
seven to twenty six and they gave up a total
of two touchdowns is pretty amazing.
Speaker 4 (23:43):
Uh yeah, Seeton, I was going to say, we actually
have some more inspirational loss in case you needed something
to go through. Okay, let's say we just did Jets
losing to the Steelers. What about the Browns Bengals seventeen sixteen.
(24:03):
That's a I'll take that if I'm the Browns. It's
not great. It was sort of a slopfest, I think, but.
Speaker 3 (24:09):
Okay, can I call it a great loss by the Browns.
Speaker 4 (24:12):
Well, I don't know if it's a great loss, but
it's one that you can build on.
Speaker 3 (24:16):
Like it's a lossy win for the Bengals.
Speaker 4 (24:18):
I feel way, I feel way worse if I'm the
Bengals today than I do with the Browns.
Speaker 3 (24:22):
Yes, because they're supposed to be leading with their offense.
Speaker 4 (24:25):
This is the bounce back a year, This is a
year we're really going to show who we are.
Speaker 3 (24:28):
Yes. God, I was thinking.
Speaker 9 (24:29):
The Browns too, But the way they lost that in
a minute and a half left in the game, a
makeable field goal that would have put them ahead, it
has me a little like, you know, I don't know
how much pride you can take in that loss when
they should have won that game.
Speaker 3 (24:40):
Thank you, Todd.
Speaker 10 (24:42):
Yes, Paul, I'm going to go with the Atlanta Falcons
for a nice loss. They handled the Buccaneers in the
first half, didn't hold onto the lead, but Bejon had
a nice game. Kyle Pitts seven catches, Drake London eight catches,
Michael Pennox Junior, very nice game. It felt like a
good day without the win.
Speaker 2 (25:01):
Okay, it's usually the team that's not supposed to win.
That wins that game. That's why I thought Atlanta was
going to win, because Tampa is a better team.
Speaker 3 (25:09):
Guess Todd, if.
Speaker 9 (25:10):
We're not keeping it to just NFL. I know we
mentioned earlier Troy hanging in there with Clemson. I think
that's something of that school should feel pretty good about
the number eighteen in the country, and they were leading
sixteen to three early third quarter. That's something to be.
Speaker 3 (25:22):
Happy about it.
Speaker 2 (25:22):
Okay, all right, we're looking for inspirational losses today, positivity.
We don't want to overreact even with our positivity with
inspirational losses. But still I saw the score and it's
like Troy leading Clemson.
Speaker 3 (25:38):
I go, oh boy, oh.
Speaker 4 (25:40):
The score line just feels a little tough. When you
look at the they have twenty seven sixteen. It isn't
far away, but it is two scores.
Speaker 10 (25:48):
Yeah, yeah, Paul, You know, you look at your TV
screen and you see something like, well, that can't be right.
Iowa State's three and oh and it's September sixth. At
the end of the nice game, Iowa State beating Iowa
and I'm like, they're three and oh, three, three wins,
and it's September sixth, it's still summer.
Speaker 2 (26:06):
The Oklahoma State score that one was you know, you
kind of look and you go, wait, is there like
a one, that's a two that's supposed to be in
front of that three? And like twenty even then sixty
nine to twenty three? Thirty three, forty three?
Speaker 4 (26:22):
Yeah, see what's worse giving up that many points or
scoring so little?
Speaker 3 (26:28):
Sixty nine points is a lot.
Speaker 4 (26:30):
That's a lot of points.
Speaker 2 (26:32):
Yeah, and they probably could have scored eighty.
Speaker 4 (26:37):
I feel like Patrick Mahomes. I think I saw his
Texas Tech team do that to West Virginia once. But
the game was like seventy to sixty nine and they
both put up just the most absurd number.
Speaker 8 (26:47):
That's fine.
Speaker 3 (26:49):
Yeah, this wasn't a game.
Speaker 2 (26:50):
And even I don't know who the report of the
sideline reporter was when she's talking to Mike Gundy coming
off the sidelines at halftime. But you got to ask
the question, like, what adjustments you're gonna make in the
second half.
Speaker 8 (27:05):
But you're down forty one three and a half. Any
adjustments on the horizon.
Speaker 2 (27:09):
Yeah, we're going to adjust our travel schedule. I like
to get out of here by the end of the
third quarter, We're.
Speaker 3 (27:15):
Gonna leave her. Can we get the clock running on this?
That was surprising.
Speaker 2 (27:19):
And then you had Gundhy talk about how much money
Oregon is spent on their football team.
Speaker 3 (27:25):
Well, mission accomplished.
Speaker 2 (27:27):
You know, maybe Oklahoma State needs to spend a little
bit more on their football team.
Speaker 3 (27:30):
Yes, Marvin, Yeah.
Speaker 7 (27:32):
As soon as I saw the score, I was like, wait,
this isn't the school Barry standers and Dez Bryant went
to them. I was like, Oklahoma State Lawton campus, because
this isn't the snow water.
Speaker 8 (27:41):
There's a hyphen in there somewhere.
Speaker 3 (27:43):
Uh t Boone Pickings rolling over in his grave.
Speaker 2 (27:47):
Yeah, can't anybody spend his billions on the Oklahoma State
football team?
Speaker 3 (27:54):
They need to bring Where's hart Lee Dikes? They got
to bring hart Lee Dikes. Get somebody like that Irving front.
Oh no, he was Nebraska by bad. I'm watching going.
Speaker 2 (28:06):
This is this is sad because I always think about,
you know, Gundhy, I'm forty, I'm a man, And then
he didn't. He didn't have that feeling after this game.
It's more like we got beat by forty and I'm
a man. No, you got beat by sixty six, so
(28:28):
we'll try to get these phone calls situated. Tyler's working
on that feverishly, feverishly.
Speaker 3 (28:36):
Let me see what else do I have here?
Speaker 2 (28:41):
The Giants haven't scored an offensive touchdown in week one
since twenty twenty two. They've been outscored in week one
one oh nine to thirty three. You know, Brian Dable
is well respected, but I just don't know how you
hold on to your job with that schedule, and it
(29:03):
felt like they were going to move on from him
last year. I you know, I'm not for anybody being
fired because it is a difficult job, but you got
to show improvement and got to show improvement offensively. Here
you move on from Danny Dimes. Okay, he took he
took the blame. Now he's not there anymore, so the
(29:25):
blame is going to go someplace else, probably start with Russ,
but Brian, you know, comes back to Brian Dable, and
I hope that they they show caution. They use caution
with Jackson Dart because you don't go, hey, the offense
isn't any good with Russ, We'll put in Jackson Dart.
It's probably still not going to be very good, but Russ.
(29:49):
That's not the debut that you were hoping for. If
you want to secure that job, and the coaching staff knows,
they're on the clock until ownership says, you got they're
going to be here next year. Ownership hasn't said that,
And as I've said on numerous occasions, if that's the case,
then don't play Jackson Dart. Play Russ for as long
(30:11):
as you can see if you can get some wins,
but don't throw him in there. But they might if
they're trying to save their jobs, they might go, hey,
let's put him in and maybe he does something and
maybe we keep our jobs. Yes, Marvin, I.
Speaker 7 (30:26):
Think the Giants were the Week one winner of the
Denny Green Award. They are who we thought they were.
They're not good. They got a great D line thanks
to Lawrence and those guys, Yes, but that's it.
Speaker 3 (30:37):
Everywhere Else you got Elak Neighbors. He's a really good receiver.
He's really good.
Speaker 2 (30:44):
But there was that awkward moment on the sidelines between
him and they had Brian Dabele goes for a high
five and Elik Neighbors looks down like he.
Speaker 3 (30:52):
Did He didn't. He didn't complete the press no, he
did not. He left him hanging there.
Speaker 2 (30:58):
Brian Dabele's like, hey, up top and then names his
head down like nope, yeah bug.
Speaker 10 (31:04):
And all that coverage of Deebo Samuel and not being
in shape in the preseason. Seven catches seventy seven yards.
Speaker 3 (31:10):
That was a big deal.
Speaker 8 (31:11):
Yeah, I had a one run for nineteen yards.
Speaker 3 (31:12):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (31:13):
Yeah, he looked like it was five years ago. And
even the forty nine ers like, that's an ugly win.
But I thought it would be an ugly game. But
you got a lot of touches for Christian McCaffrey. Party
didn't look great. But that's that's a good win for
me when I was watching some of that because I
was curious about McCaffrey. You know, it's easy to lose
(31:36):
those games. But man, that's where I know, ten weeks
from now, eleven weeks from now, you could be looking
back on teams that won or lost opening week and
what that meant for their playoff situation where you're on
the road for a wild card or you're hosting all
the way through. Just we tend to put, you know,
(31:56):
more importance on those games later in the year during
the regular season. These is up front. These are the
ones that always come back to haunt you always. All right,
we'll take a break, we'll work on our phone calls,
and uh we'll bring you our Play of the day
right after this.

Poswell drills one from sixty yards out to get the
Steelers the thirty four to thirty two lead with one
oh three remaining in the fourth quarter at MetLife Stadium.
Speaker 2 (32:54):
That's courtesy the Steelers Radio Network. Sixty yarder was a
career loan for boz Well. He's the tenth kicker all
time with the game winning field goal of at least
sixty yards in the final two minutes of regulation or overtime.
Speaker 3 (33:09):

Speaker 3 (33:29):
Our one poll results so far Seaton.
Speaker 4 (33:34):
Yeah, we got two of them up there right now,
a team that had the worst weekend. There's a couple
of real doozies on this list, and Dolphins being one
of them. So far. They have the lead in the
poll question and having the worst weekend, followed closely by
the Florida Gators. Tough one for Florida this poll quest.
Speaker 3 (33:53):
I have updated odds here.
Speaker 2 (33:55):
By the way, the Vikings are one and a half
point favorites in Chicago tonight and your anytime touchdown leader
would be Justin Jefferson Entertainment Purposes only. Also the MVP
odds as you would expect, Josh Allen got a nice
little boost from last night's game, so did Lamar Jackson.
Speaker 3 (34:17):
They both played well. Joe Burrow.
Speaker 2 (34:20):
Then it's Mahomes, Jaden Daniels, Jordan Love, Jalen Hurts and
Justin Herbert. How does Jalen Hurts MVP odds get worse
after that performance against the Dallas Cowboys, but it did
Burrow's odds got worse. Mahomes got worse. Jordan loved Jayden
(34:45):
Daniels got a little bit better. Justin Herbert's MVP odds
jumped up now plus fifteen hundred.
Speaker 3 (34:52):
It was plus two thousand and.
Speaker 2 (34:54):
Super Bowl odds. According to DraftKings, it's still Buffalo. Buffalo
was plus six hundred, tied with the Ravens to start
the season. Now they're at plus four to seventy five.
The Ravens still in second. Then it's the Eagles. The
Packers got a nice little bump. They were plus twelve
hundred and now they're at plus nine hundred. The Chiefs
(35:17):
went the other way as well. The Commanders went up
a little bit. Chargers went up a little bit as well.
I loved watching the Chargers play well, but I can't
If they go to the Super Bowl win the Super Bowl, great,
I'll go to the parade, but I'm sorry, I can't
do it.
Speaker 3 (35:38):
I just can't. Too many times.
Speaker 2 (35:40):
When I've gone man the Chargers, I think if their
uniforms didn't look as good as they do, then maybe
I probably I probably wouldn't be all in on the Chargers.
For it was years, it felt like man, there's the
year of the Chargers. Chargers year didn't matter who was
the quarterback or the coach. I'm picking them a bunch
(36:02):
of times, yes, marm Yeah.
Speaker 7 (36:05):
As a franchise, the Chargers are in the hall, are
very good. Like you know what, they're right there. I
don't care what their record is in the regular season.
The Philip Rivers, I think he went fourteen to two
one year. Like, oh they got home. Oh they lost
in a divisional round. They've done this a few times,
I know.
Speaker 10 (36:20):
Yeah, Pauling and they quietly got Keenan Allen back. They're
a longtime wide receiver. I did not know he went
back there. He had seven catches.
Speaker 2 (36:27):
I knew that he was going back, and I thought,
I just don't want him to get hurt again. Yeah,
because he's one of those guys. Man, if he didn't
get hurt, you don't want to be that guy, you know, man,
if he didn't get hurt, but he does get hurt.
Speaker 9 (36:42):
Yes, Todd, Oh, the Charges have been like Arizona on
our college basketball bracket sheets during March madness. You keep
hoping and you keep picking them because you think they're
gonna get further than they get and then they just stop.
Speaker 3 (36:53):
Isn't that the analogy I use all the time?
Speaker 8 (36:56):
Don Yeah, I guess maybe you do.
Speaker 9 (36:59):
I'm jumping on.
Speaker 8 (37:00):
I guess like I've done that before.
Speaker 3 (37:03):
Thank you.
Speaker 9 (37:04):
I thought today would be a good day to bring
that back since we were just talking about the Chargers
not getting to.
Speaker 3 (37:08):
The efficies line.
Speaker 2 (37:09):
But I always I call them the Arizona Wildcats.
Speaker 9 (37:13):
Of the I were just bringing that back today.
Speaker 3 (37:14):
Or Arizona is the Chargers of college.
Speaker 9 (37:16):
But we're emphasizing the point I guess is what I did.
I didn't really accomplish it.
Speaker 3 (37:20):
Instead of saying, you know, as you say, I probably.
Speaker 9 (37:22):
Should have proposed it by saying as you always say,
that would have eliminated this a huge moment we're having.
Speaker 2 (37:26):
Yeah, you took something from Seaton as well last week.
Speaker 9 (37:31):
Kind of I don't know if it was. It was
in that ballpark, but it wasn't exactly similar.
Speaker 3 (37:37):
Mm hmm, okay, pattern developing here.
Speaker 9 (37:42):
I've been accused of that in the past, just repurposing
other people and not having an original thought. I can
I can wear that.
Speaker 8 (37:47):
That's fine.
Speaker 3 (37:47):
I asked Fall.
Speaker 10 (37:48):
Here's a weird one I was watching trying to bail
you out. I was watching the Chargers the other night
and Derwin James, the safety, just he's just a fantastic player.
And they were talking about last year. He had five
and a half sacks last year from the position, and
then they looked at his career stats. He has nine
career interceptions and seventeen career sacks at safety. I wonder
there's ever bet a defensive back in NFL history with
(38:10):
more sacks than interception numbers.
Speaker 2 (38:13):
Rodney Harrison more you think more sacks, Well, he's thirty thirty.
Rodney Harrison has at least thirty sacks and at least
thirty interceptions. There's only two players in history who've done
the thirty thirty Ray Lewis Is I believe the other one?
Speaker 10 (38:30):
Yeah, poem Rodney Harrison. Thirty four career picks, thirty and
a half career sacks.
Speaker 8 (38:34):
He's right there.
Speaker 2 (38:35):
Yeah, and he should be a Hall of Famer. I
know that he was a finalist I think this past year.
But I mean, that's that's hard to do as a safety.
You go thirty thirty in your career and you're playing
for teams that won championships. Yes, Marvin was it? His
reputation as keeping him out.
Speaker 3 (38:54):
Has he a dirty player?
Speaker 7 (38:55):
Yeah?
Speaker 2 (38:58):
Yeah, and then he also got did for steroids, I
think performance enhancing drugs coming back from injury and got
them steroids in the mail something like that. But he
played for, you know, a great franchise. He won Super Bowls,
he played well in Super Bowls, and you're in the
thirty thirty club.
Speaker 3 (39:18):
That's Hall of Fame worthy.
Speaker 10 (39:19):
Yeah, Paul, Guys like him and heinz Ward maybe not
in the Hall of Fame, but they are Hall of
guys I'd love to have on my team. Yeah, And
coaches always say that.
Speaker 3 (39:28):
Yeah, I'm still surprised. Heinzidn' in there.
Speaker 10 (39:31):
Four straight Pro Bowls, three straight All Pros the meat
of his career, finished with an even one thousand catches.
Speaker 2 (39:40):
But labeled one of the dirtiest players, and Rodney was
labeled a dirty player as well. But I mean, I
don't know if you're holding that against somebody there. There
are a lot of guys who were dirty players who
still went into the Hall of Fame. But we celebrated
that a little bit more back then. You know, when
you know you were able to hit somebody up side
(40:03):
of the head with a cast that you had on
or you know, however, you could lift up a quarterback
and smash him. You know, we're like, yeah, we celebrated
that kind of player. Yes, Martin Heinez Ward super Bowl MVP.
Speaker 3 (40:16):
Yeah, yeah, you're right.
Speaker 2 (40:20):
Well, we've had some Super Bowl MVPs who didn't go
on to great thing.
Speaker 5 (40:24):
Well.
Speaker 7 (40:24):
I don't want to call him Dexter Jackson or Larry
Brown or anything, but.
Speaker 3 (40:27):
You did Dexter Jackson. Then he have a couple of
interceptions he did?
Speaker 2 (40:34):
Yeah, yeah, And Larry Brown didn't he have a couple
of interceptions as well.
Speaker 3 (40:38):
He wasn't. Neil O'Donnell.
Speaker 8 (40:40):
Oh no, oh no.
Speaker 3 (40:42):
Didn't he throw the interceptions?
Speaker 5 (40:46):
He did?
Speaker 3 (40:46):
Yeah he did? He did? He feel right to him?
Speaker 8 (40:50):
Try to confuse himy throwing right into his hand.
Speaker 3 (40:52):
Yes, he'll never suspect this.
Speaker 8 (40:56):
How do we get there?
Speaker 2 (40:57):
I have no idea. How do we get any on
this show? One hour in the books on this Monday,
two more to go. Our starting lineup, our Fab five,
Fritzy Seaton, Marv Pauli, yours truly, and of course the
back room guys as well.
