Speaker 1 (00:00):
You are listening to the Dan Patrick Show on Fox
Sports Radio.
Speaker 2 (00:04):
We did it.
Speaker 3 (00:06):
We did it collectively and individually. We made it to
a Friday, So meet Friday after the Meet Thursday, cheeseburgers,
hot dogs, pork belly, baked beans. Who has it better
than we do?
Speaker 4 (00:20):
No?
Speaker 3 (00:21):
All right, gang's all here, The incredible Todd Fritz is here, Seaton,
Marv Pauliers truly, and the backroom guys as well. We'll
get some of the incidental incidentals out of the way.
Stat of the Day brought to you by Panini America,
the official trading cards of the program, the merchandise stores
open for business, Danpatrick dot Com, and this first hour
(00:42):
brought to you by the folks who've been doing it
for forty years. Tire Rack helping you find the right
tires for how and what and where you drive. Ship
fast and free back by free road hazard protection with
convenient installation options like mobile tire installation. Tire rack dot
Com the way tire buying should be. Let's overreact, or
(01:02):
maybe we're just reacting. The Packers are the team to
beat in the NFC right now. I don't think you
can argue that they've beaten two really good teams. And yes,
one was on the road, one was at home. But
I think in the fashion that they beat the Lions
and the Commanders, they roughed them up, they roughed them up,
and they looked impressive, and well two home games, I
(01:26):
should say, so, yes, you knock those two off. You
check the boxes there with two teams, playoff teams who've
gone to NFC title games. And now all of a sudden,
you've got everybody's attention. This is a team that always scored.
Last year, they scored, they'd get you twenty points, they'd
average twenty points a.
Speaker 2 (01:44):
Game, maybe more than that.
Speaker 3 (01:46):
Now you've got defense, and if you're able to put pressure,
you're able to stop dynamic players. Now, all of a sudden,
you've changed the perception of your team because it feels
like they're defensive first team. And if you're going to
hit the quarterback twelve times, now all of a sudden,
(02:08):
he's back there, and now he's thinking. Instead of your
thinking about the wide receiver, you're thinking about the play.
Now you're thinking about where where is that guy? Because
Michael Parsons, you can look at the stats, and the stats,
to me, they really don't incorporate how great he is.
Because let's say somebody gets a sack and it's not
(02:28):
Michael Parsons. Pretty much guarantee that Michael Parsons had something
to do with that person getting a sack or holding calls.
That's like a sack if you're going to be holding
and he's the one that is being held. Once again,
that value. There's only a couple of players like that
in the NFL. That's why I know Jerry's going to
go to his graves saying he made a great deal
(02:50):
trading away Michael Parsons. They you know, I think Green
Bay paid too much for him given the market, but
giving up the run stopper, the two first round picks,
you saw the difference. There's only five or six players
who are like that defensively, and he might be at
the top of the list of he's gonna put pressure,
(03:12):
he's gonna make sure you know where he is, and
he's gonna make everybody better on passing downs. The one
thing I would caution is I want to ease him
into the season, and I know that when you have
a shiny new toy, you're like, God, I gotta get
him out there. I want him to play. He wants
to get out there. He's lobbying Matt Lafleur to get
him out there to play a little bit more.
Speaker 2 (03:33):
A long season, long season, players are going to get hurt.
Speaker 3 (03:38):
Teams are gonna be up, they're gonna be down, and
it happens every single year. It's really really rare when
a team doesn't go through a rough patch, and green
Bay will have that this year. But what we've seen
so far with the Lions and the Commanders, and I
don't think those scores are indicative of just how much
better green Bay was than those teams. But the Packers
aren't suddenly Super Bowl contenders because they traded for Micah Parsons.
(04:01):
In my opinion, I just think they've always been contenders
top to bottom, and now you put the finishing touch
and getting a player like that, and now I think
they're the team to beat in the NFC. Now, let's
see what happens with the Eagles against Kansas City. If
the Eagles, who are favored, slight favorites, go into Kansas
City and they put up impressive numbers, I just think
(04:21):
it's so hard. And you know, players talk about when
you're winning championships, you get full and it's hard to
eat when you're full.
Speaker 2 (04:31):
And maybe the Eagles are.
Speaker 3 (04:33):
Going to, you know, go through that where they might
not be as hungry as they've been before it happens.
That's why we don't have back to back champions been
a long, long, long time. But going to Kansas City
that will have my attention. There's a couple of games
that have my attention in the NFL. The Patriots against
the Dolphins. It's a division game, but I think all
(04:57):
eyes are on Mike McDaniel. The Dolphins said coach like,
that's a must winish game in my opinion. The Broncos
against the Colts. It's just one of those games where
you go, I normally wouldn't really care about it, but
now I kind of do you know, Buffalo after a
(05:17):
big win and then they're on the road against the Jets.
I'm not saying, but I'm saying, those are the games
that always get my attention where you go, I don't know,
it's a weird feeling.
Speaker 2 (05:32):
The Chargers.
Speaker 3 (05:33):
The Chargers against the Raiders, I don't know, big game
on the road, come back and now you're going to
face them, and I don't know, just a couple of those.
I got a few of those in college football as well.
That'll run down a seven to seven to three DP
show email address Dpatdanpatrick dot com Twitter handle a DP show.
Speaker 2 (05:55):
Good morning.
Speaker 3 (05:55):
If you're watching on Peacock, thank you for downloading the app.
And we say good morning to our radio affiliates as well.
All right, poll question seating for the first hour. The
program's going to be what.
Speaker 5 (06:07):
Very exciting day, very exciting day. We've got our first
dude poll question.
Speaker 2 (06:11):
Oh yeah, we'll just.
Speaker 5 (06:13):
Sent this one over, dude, Green Bay Packers. Dude, dude,
that's a start to the season.
Speaker 2 (06:18):
Yeah it is. That's announcing your presence.
Speaker 6 (06:22):
Yeah, Pauline, And if you're a Packer fan, you're on
national TV. Wipe the floor with the Commanders. Then you
got the rest of the weekend the watch football. You
can just put your feet up, relax, no tension. You
got the Wisconsin Bama game, and the next three weeks
the Packers have Browns, Cowboys, Bengals, then Cardinals. Those are
three or four very winnable games.
Speaker 7 (06:41):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (06:43):
By the way, the Bills are favored by six and
a half at the Jets. The Patriots are getting two
and a half at the Dolphins. Eagles are one and
a half point favored at the Chiefs. Mahomes, I think
has been a home underdog. This is the second time
in his career and the Chargers are getting three and
a half at the Raider.
Speaker 2 (07:01):
What else do you have Seaton today?
Speaker 5 (07:03):
Dude, Aaron Judge is having a season. He is not
as good as last season.
Speaker 3 (07:09):
Dot dot Well, he ties Joe Demagio in the all
time home run list and uh, he's got forty six
home runs this season. I never considered Joe Demagio a
home run hitter, but okay, we can celebrate milestones. And
it's a big name there that he's going to pass
in Joe Demagio. I think if you check, I mean,
(07:32):
Joe Demagio is underrated, great centerfielder, and uh, like you know,
he would bat three fifty three sixty, But I don't
think he ever hit forty home runs in a season.
But here's Judge, who oh, by the way, has got
forty six home runs. I think Demaggio had more home
(07:53):
runs than strikeouts in his entire career. I think he
struck out like three hundred fifty times or something in
his career.
Speaker 2 (08:03):
Yeah, Poe, it's really close.
Speaker 6 (08:04):
Jodamasha with three hundred and sixty nine career strikeouts three
hundred and sixty one career home runs. He hit forty
six homers his second year in the league and thirty
nine later in his life, but his career average Jodomasha
was three twenty five. He also missed three seasons aged
twenty eight, twenty nine, and thirty because of military service.
Speaker 3 (08:22):
Well that's why when I go back and I look
at Ted Williams stats and he missed three prime years
twenty eight, twenty nine, thirty, I think, you know, I
mean he was a pirate fighter pilot in the war
and then comes home and is still the greatest hitter.
Speaker 2 (08:39):
I mean, he didn't do a meet and greet.
Speaker 3 (08:42):
He wasn't like Elvis, you know, or we're gonna do
a fundraiser. Bob Hope wasn't you know, overseas. But you know,
you look at Ted Williams, what do you have five
to twenty one?
Speaker 8 (08:53):
Yeah.
Speaker 6 (08:54):
Ted Williams hit five hundred and twenty one home runs.
He missed three seasons at age twenty five, twenty six,
and twenty seven. If you parade his home runs. Casually
another one hundred, he'd be at six twenty and a
career batting average of three forty four.
Speaker 3 (09:08):
Yeah, it might be the greatest hitter of all time. Yeah,
I know, Babe Ruth put up incredible numbers as well.
But but Teddy ballgame missing three years and he's a
fighter pilot. It's not like, hey, Elvis, can you come
out and perform? Can you shake some hands here? Well, yeah,
(09:31):
I will. That wasn't a very good Elvis in personally,
I said, I will. Yes, Marmon, I was agreeing with you.
It wasn't a great Thanks.
Speaker 2 (09:41):
You're right, it wasn't. Yes.
Speaker 6 (09:42):
Can you imagine you're the enemy, you're flying your playing
You look over like, is that Ted Williams about to
shoot me down? This one is splinter. No one else
could do it.
Speaker 3 (09:49):
An he wore his batting helmet. That was the weird thing.
I black, Yeah, eye black. That's not true though, No,
it's it's not. It's not, by the way, wearing the
EyeBlack Tucker craft. South Dakota is South Dakota State or
South Dakota. He had a big night last night. Here
(10:11):
is Jordan Love on his big tight end.
Speaker 8 (10:15):
I'm expecting big things from Tuck this year, but it's just,
you know, it's one of those things that that's what
Tucky is.
Speaker 2 (10:21):
Every day.
Speaker 8 (10:21):
You know, he comes in and puts that work in,
and you know, in practice every day he's making those
big time plays. And he's very consistent right now. So
I don't think it's a secret for him to go
out there and you know, ball like he does first
time having one hundred yards, which is pretty cool for him.
But yeah, I mean he goes out there and takes
the work from practice into the games and is consistent
with what he does. So you know something we gotta
(10:43):
keep building on with him. But you know, Texsa, a
guy's gonna have a big year.
Speaker 3 (10:47):
South Dakota State jack rabbits there Tucker Craft people scrambling
for their fantasy team.
Speaker 2 (10:53):
So I got him. I claimed him. I got him.
Speaker 3 (10:56):
Jaydon Daniels ran seven times for seventeen yards. He threw
forty two times for two hundred yards, and fourth time
he's been held under twenty five yards rushing in his career. Yeah,
I mean, even kind of non threatening. Although I do
love what I see from him. He just he stands
(11:18):
tall in the pocket. I didn't think he was going
to have a great game here, just on the road
with this defense, and he just felt like Green Bay.
Green Bay should have won by you know, four touchdowns.
I thought that they were that much better there. John Coon,
who played fullback for the Packers. He's now a broadcaster
(11:40):
in Green Bay. He will join us coming up. Herm Edwards,
who coached Jayden Daniels at Arizona State. You played to
win the game. He'll join us a little bit later
on as well. Eagles, Chiefs, Patriots, Dolphin, Seahawks, Steelers, Broncos, Colts, Falcons, Vikes,
just to name a few. College football. Wisconsin in Alabama, Yikes. Now,
(12:04):
Wisconsin is a big underdog here, but like this is
a must it's a must.
Speaker 2 (12:10):
Win situation for Calen Debor.
Speaker 3 (12:12):
All right, Mike McDaniel, the Dolphins against the Patriots. Phil's
must winnish as well. When it's Wisconsin. Are they three
touchdown underdogs? I got yeah, they're twenty twenty one point underdogs.
Georgia Tennessee is great and I'd love to have gone
to that game. Arkansas, Oh, miss A and m Notre Dame.
(12:36):
It's not must winish because you're Notre Dame. But A
and M getting six and a half. Wouldn't you like
it if you actually got six and a half, Like
you walk in and it's A and M six point
five Notre Dame zero.
Speaker 2 (12:55):
We might get to that one day. With our gambling.
Speaker 3 (12:58):
Florida against ls you must winish for Billy Napier even
though there's seven point underdogs at LSU and Vandy South
Carolina Spiceye Diego Pavilla Vandy uh getting three at South Carolina.
So just some of theme and South Florida, South Florida.
(13:20):
My balls, they're well, I think seventeen and a half
point underdogs. So you're saying we have a chance, Yes, Marvin.
Speaker 7 (13:27):
Make sure you tell everybody. It's on the c W. Yeah,
it's right after One Tree Hill.
Speaker 9 (13:32):
C W.
Speaker 2 (13:32):
I never saw One Tree Hill.
Speaker 7 (13:34):
It's like a Dawson's Creek ish type teen drama.
Speaker 3 (13:37):
But Katie Holmes was in Dawson Creek. Yeah, correct, Okay.
Speaker 7 (13:41):
Chad Michael Murray wasn't One Tree Hill.
Speaker 2 (13:43):
Okay.
Speaker 3 (13:44):
I met him one time at a celebrity football game,
I think at the Beach Bowl.
Speaker 2 (13:50):
Oh, yes, in New York.
Speaker 6 (13:51):
He's too good looking.
Speaker 3 (13:52):
Yeah I was, and I'm rushing out because I have
to go to Newark and get on a plane to
go to Russia for the Olympics. And I've got you know,
I'm taking off my microphone and I'm just rushing out
because I got to get there. There's a charter, they're gonna.
Speaker 2 (14:08):
Wait for me.
Speaker 3 (14:10):
And I'm walking off and I see him. He goes, hey.
I just wanted to say hell. Oh, now I knew
who he was. And then I go, oh, man, I
got a run to the air I mean, I felt
bad like I was big timing him. And then I
tell my daughters and they're like, did you get a picture?
Speaker 2 (14:28):
I go, well, no, an autograph and I go no,
I had to rush to the airport. Well will you.
Speaker 3 (14:35):
See him again? And I go, I don't think so.
So they like held this grudge that I didn't, you know,
stop and.
Speaker 2 (14:42):
Talk to him.
Speaker 3 (14:43):
Oh these girls never satisfied. All right, we'll get some
phone calls coming up. Eight seven seven three DP show
operator Tyler's sitting by Morales High on this Friday. I
feel better than I did yesterday. I had I had
the flu. I had a reaction from all the vaccines.
(15:04):
Three and out with my shingles, vaccine, covid and flu
and don't do that. By the way. I mean, results
may vary, but man, oh man, I was in bad
shape yesterday. But Marvin accurately pointed out a similar performance
to Michael Jordan with the flu game.
Speaker 2 (15:21):
Thank you.
Speaker 7 (15:22):
I was like, you're Scottie Piven, holding you up?
Speaker 2 (15:24):
You you were my Scottie Pivit.
Speaker 7 (15:28):
I was more like Judd Buschler, but in my head
I was thinking about Scotty.
Speaker 3 (15:32):
You were Steve Kerr. All right, we'll take a break.
We'll check in with the Packers. Coming up next here
Dan Patrick's Show.
Speaker 1 (15:39):
Be sure to catch the live edition of The Dan
Patrick Show weekdays at nine am Eastern six am Pacific

Speaker 10 (15:49):
Hey, what's up everybody? It's me three time Pro Bowl
in LeVar Harrington, and I couldn't be more excited to
announce a podcast called Up on Game? What is up
on Game? You asked, along with fellow Pro bowler TJ. Hutchman,
Zada and Super Bowl champion. Yep, that's right, Plexico Burris.
You can only name a show with that type of
talent on it. Up on Game We're going to be
(16:12):
sharing our real life experiences loaded with teachable moments. Listen
to Up on Game with me LeVar Arrington, TJ. Hutchman,
Zada and Plexico Burrs on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts
or wherever you get your podcast from.
Speaker 3 (16:30):
A couple of things to consider when you're looking at
the Packers start. They have started two to zero with
wins against teams that won at least twelve games last year.
Only five teams have ever done that. And keep in
mind they didn't win a single game against the team
that won at least eleven games this past season. Stat
(16:59):
of today, bron't you by Panini America, But you sacked
the quarterback four times. You have twelve quarterback hits and
you're going to have a quarterback who's maybe a little
more nervous there in the pocket. Post game, Packer fans
had a message for Jerry Jones.
Speaker 2 (17:29):
Oh thank you, Jerry.
Speaker 3 (17:31):
I know, Jerry, Jerry may still win this of course,
you know, everybody has their opinion on Jerry and did
he win the trade getting that run stopper? Although they
did get a really good player, I mean they did,
but the first round picks I don't think we're going
to be I know, maybe they're gonna be looking for
(17:52):
another Micah Parsons. I mean, look at the way the
Packers are playing. John Coon won a couple of Super
Bowls and he works with the Packers. Sideline reporter won
a Super Bowl with the Steelers and the Packers.
Speaker 2 (18:05):
Good to see you again, John. How you doing.
Speaker 4 (18:08):
I'm doing great, Dan, Thanks for having me. And first
let me just say I'm glad you're feeling much better
today and bounce back day for you here on a Friday.
Speaker 2 (18:18):
Well, you've played when you were sick before? H Yeah, yeah, absolutely, Yeah.
Speaker 3 (18:23):
That's what gamers do. That's that's what great ones do.
Did you get a shot?
Speaker 5 (18:28):
No?
Speaker 4 (18:29):
I never really got a shot while I was playing
in the NFL. But they had these little pills.
Speaker 3 (18:35):
Oh just as good they didn't. They didn't give me
those pills yesterday, John, I should.
Speaker 2 (18:40):
Have asked for those little magic pills.
Speaker 3 (18:43):
Let me give you the official introduction. Check out the
Tundra Weekly podcast featuring John and discussing all things Green
Bay Packers. Okay, are you tempering your overreaction?
Speaker 4 (18:57):
Like?
Speaker 3 (18:58):
How do you stay grounded? And it's early and it's
two wins, but yes, two impressive wins.
Speaker 4 (19:04):
Yeah, I'm not grounded at all. Damn. I watched this
team and listen, I played for a long time in THEFL,
played for a long time in Green Bay, and I've
covered this team now from the sidelines and in the
booth since twenty nineteen, and I have to tell you,
I have not seen a defense rally and attack this
(19:26):
football the way that this Packers defense is doing it
this year. And Jordan Love and the offense, they are
still just figuring things out. And I'm scared to say
when this team plays a complete game what they can
actually do.
Speaker 3 (19:42):
I love Josh Jacobs. It's nice to have that run.
I know there's glamorous running backs, but it just feels
like he is. He's so Green Bay, especially when you
get down on the goal line. How do you state
equate his value to this team.
Speaker 4 (20:00):
It's really everything last year and now it's taken the
next step this year. Josh Jacobs's resume comes without saying
when he came in last year and he just built
on that throughout the course of the season. The Packers
really leaned on him with the injuries that Jordan Love
had a year ago and now he has become a
guy where, even if he's not breaking off the chunk plays,
(20:23):
mattl Floor sticks with him because he knows, at some
point in time in the second half, at some point
in time in the fourth quarter, they're gonna punch one
in there. He's got eleven straight games that he scored
a rushing touchdown. That's a Green Bay Packer record. And
when you set a record for a franchise that's been
around for over one hundred years, you're doing something pretty special.
Speaker 3 (20:41):
The impact that Micah Parsons has, granted he's in there
on third down passing downs, but.
Speaker 2 (20:47):
Can you overstate his impact?
Speaker 4 (20:52):
Well, I think the easiest way to talk about his
impact is, yeah, you know about the eight sacks, and
I think it's nineteen cores back hits that this defensive
front has. But you see Rashan Gary now has two
and a half sacks in his first two games, Lucas
van Ness has a sack, Devonte Wyatt has two sacks,
Michael Parsons himself has a sack and a half, and
it's just it's getting to the quarterback in population. It's
(21:15):
not just him wreaking havoc on a on an offensive line.
It's the attention he brings allows others to bring that
same impact, that same ferocious mentality when they when they
line up there on second and third down. And it's
getting to the point now where even kway Walker and
Edrian Cooper and everybody's jumping in, uh and in on
(21:37):
the party here at the quarterback and Jeff Hafley's got
a uh, he's got a a Schmorgas board of plays
that he can call her knowing that when Michael Parson's
out on that field, anybody can pop from any spot.
Speaker 2 (21:49):
Jordan Love in the passing game.
Speaker 3 (21:52):
Uh, Like we can nitpick here, But are there any
concerns that you've seen so far through two weeks?
Speaker 4 (22:01):
Very minor? Last week against Detroit, he threw two balls,
one that got interception, intercepted, got called back, another one
that probably should have been intercepted. He had a fifty
to fifty jump ball last night.
Speaker 7 (22:12):
Some coaches like that, some coaches don't.
Speaker 4 (22:14):
But in the grand scheme of things, he's completed to
pass his to eleven different receivers already in this fo
the receiver with the most receptions is his tight end
Tucker Craft with I believe it's only eight or nine
receptions right now. He's spreading the ball around and he's
doing it at a high clip. The big yardages aren't
(22:34):
there yet, the touchdowns aren't there yet. But he started
both games so hot against two really big time teams here.
I know there were home games. We're gonna get a
lot more information when we go on the road here
in the coming weeks on what this offense really is
and kind of defense travel. I believe that both of
them will. I believe that both of them can, and
(22:55):
I believe Jordan Love. He doesn't have to carry this
football team, but there are moments that he will still
continue to carry this football team.
Speaker 2 (23:02):
Do you think they're the best team in the NFL? Yeah,
I do.
Speaker 4 (23:07):
I think they're on that short list with Buffalo, with Baltimore,
with Philadelphia. I mean I would put those four above
anybody else right now. And coming into the season, there
was a lot of high hopes. There was a lot
of energy about this Packer team. But that traded Michael Parsons,
it seemed to have lifted everybody's play. You're not seeing
(23:28):
the drops, The penalties are less than what they were
a year ago. You're not seeing the mental errors that
you used to see on the defensive side. So it
seems like it feels like everybody was prepared to take
the next step into the season, and Michael Parsons just
put a jetpack on their back and launched them.
Speaker 2 (23:44):
Look at you.
Speaker 3 (23:45):
Look how excited you worked last night late last night
up all that energy.
Speaker 2 (23:50):
You're like a fan. I am a fan, Dan, I am.
Speaker 4 (23:54):
I'm a fan of football. I'm a fan of fun,
good football, physical football. And that's what we have now
in Green Bay. And yes I did. I woke up
at six fifty five this morning and I had a
text from my agent that said, you got to get
on the Dan Patrick show. Feeling better if he wants
to talk the Packers.
Speaker 3 (24:11):
Uh, what's it like to be a green Bay Packer
living in Green Bay?
Speaker 2 (24:16):
It's a special feeling.
Speaker 4 (24:17):
And this goes back to Josh Jacobs, this goes back
to Xavier McKinney, Micah Parsons. I've even seen it in
his short period of time here. The appreciation in the
admiration of the fans is second to none. And listen,
this fan base. We know about all the sellouts, we
know about that season ticket list, but really the way
they treat you on the street, the respect that they
(24:38):
give you, the love that they give you, the passion
that they have cheering for you in the stands. I've
seen Michael Parsons take the field twice now in lambeau Field,
and both times I've watched him do a panoram at
three sixty of the stadium as he walks out there
and here's the chair. You can't help but really love
(24:59):
the appreciation that you are feeling when you walk out there,
and it makes you want to play harder, and it
makes you want to give back to the community as well.
Speaker 2 (25:06):
How vulnerable are the Lions?
Speaker 4 (25:09):
Are the Lions, Well, that's tough. That's one game. It's
really tough. I believe in Dan Campbell. I'm a Dan
Campbell fan. I think he'll get turned around. They're definitely
going to have to get back in their bag and
try and get their mesh with Johnny Moe, the offensive
coordinator taken over for Ben Johnson. A lot of checkdowns,
but a lot of those checkdowns last week could have
(25:30):
been simply that the Green Bay Packers were flashing in
front of Jared Goff's face. I think they'll get this
thing figured out, especially when they get at home in
the dome.
Speaker 2 (25:38):
Give me your favorite Aaron Rodgers story.
Speaker 4 (25:41):
There's a million. I could give you a million Aaron
Rodgers stories. Here's the best one. We're playing at Augusta
and yes, I played Augusta National with Aaron Rodgers.
Speaker 2 (25:50):
I had to use him.
Speaker 4 (25:51):
He was my entry. You know how people were there's
lanyards to get into the Masters, Well, my lanyard was
Aaron Rodgers, so I wore the Aaron Rodgers lanyard. I
got in to Augusta. And he's a much better golfer
than I am. Dan, a much better golfer.
Speaker 2 (26:04):
And we're playing.
Speaker 4 (26:06):
We put a little bit of scratch on the line
and we hit about the turn and I'm up gross
on him by about four or five strokes, and he's
not very happy. He's he's sending t shots into the trees,
left into the trees. He's coming out of this thing
and he's keeping in there, but I'm beating him for
the first time. He gets so competitive that he doesn't
(26:27):
talk to us for about the first six or seven
holes on the back nine. And we had a good
little group of friends that were golfing there at the time.
He battled his way back and he talked me into
a double bogie on eighteen, so he beat me by
one stroke.
Speaker 2 (26:43):
He ever yell at you in the huddle, Yes.
Speaker 4 (26:46):
Yelled at me in the huddle, yelled at me on
the football field. But Dan, I gotta say, I grew
up with Aaron. I was here when Aaron was still
backing up Brett Faarres. So because of that, I could
yell back a little bit at him, and I think
he appreciated that. I think you've expected that, and I
think that was one of the things that he was
looking for when he yelled at other players throughout his career.
Speaker 3 (27:07):
Great to talk to you, Glad you're doing well. Thank
you John, Thank you, Dan, I appreciate it. John Kon,
the sideline reporter for the Packers Radio Network, played twelve
seasons in the NFL. The podcast is a weekly podcast
called The Tundra featuring John all Things Green Bay Packers.
Matt Schneiderman, I think, is also on that podcast as well.
(27:30):
Quarterbacks in Green Bay are like coaches in Pittsburgh. They
don't go through too many of them. If you look
at far from nineteen ninety two to two thousand and seven,
and then Rogers two thousand and eight to twenty twenty two.
They had twenty two Pro Bowls combined. And then you
have Jordan Love, who looks well, he better be a
franchise quarterback. They certainly paid him, you know. Then you
(27:53):
look at Chuck Noll, Bill Kawer, Mike Tomlin. Well, the
Packers are hoping that Jordan Love equates to Mike Tomlin
and his tenure there.
Speaker 2 (28:03):
Yeah, Pauline, but the Packers.
Speaker 6 (28:05):
Probably two of the more criticized draft picks in the
past twenty years was the Aaron Rodgers draft pick when
Brett Farve was still great and the Jordan Love draft
pick when Aaron Rodgers was still great. Those got lit
up by a lot of people, and they both worked out.
Speaker 3 (28:17):
Jack and Tulsa leads us off. Good morning, Jack, what's
on your mind today?
Speaker 11 (28:21):
Good morning to you and the Dan It's I just
have a couple of quick questions. Number one, thank you
Jerry at the end, with Micah nodding along, I was
wondering what you guys think of Jerry's thinking about that.
My second question was you talked about Silverado and Scott
(28:42):
Glenn a while ago, and I was wondering I compare
him to Ed Harris. I love that Silverado soundtrack. Ed
Harris has been in many, many movies, with four Academy
Award nominations. I'm just wondering, what's your favorite Ed Harrison movie?
Is minding Me at the Gate?
Speaker 2 (29:02):
All right?
Speaker 3 (29:03):
You know, maybe another day I'll get into my favorite
Ed Harris movies, but uh not today.
Speaker 2 (29:09):
Oh we could do an hour Yeah, milk Money. I
do like I do like Ed Harris. It sounds like
an hour two poll question you make I.
Speaker 3 (29:15):
Do like I do like Ed Harris. He's just one
of those actors. He shows up and I would say
The Truman Show. But I thought aris Ed Harris. Uh,
and my wife always thought he was handsome. So maybe
I have a problem with Ed Harris a little bit here.
Speaker 6 (29:30):
Yeah, Ed Harris. He was the mission commander in Paula thirteen.
Speaker 2 (29:34):
Yeah, great role.
Speaker 6 (29:35):
He was also one of the salesmen in Glengarry Glenn Ross.
Speaker 2 (29:38):
Great flick.
Speaker 7 (29:39):
Yes, yes, Martin Milk Money, also with Melanie Griffith. Do
you ever see Malcolm McDonald and Hayes?
Speaker 2 (29:47):
I don't think deep.
Speaker 3 (29:50):
Yeah, that's the first Ed Harrison movie.
Speaker 2 (29:52):
I thought.
Speaker 3 (29:53):
I'm sorry, Well, Thank you, though, Zach and Knoxville. Hi, Zach,
what's on your mind today?
Speaker 12 (30:00):
Thanks for taking my call. I want to preface this
with I'm not mad. I'm just disappointed. You say sports
journalists should be nonpartisan, and I don't mind when SVP
gets college farkashout every now and then, but you let
little Nicky Wright come on here with his pom poms
talking about the Chiefs all the time, and I just
(30:21):
want to ask why I.
Speaker 3 (30:22):
Don't think he's a journalist, Zach, Okay, yeah, well maybe
you should. Then No, Nick is an entertainer, I got.
(30:43):
I mean, I don't know who wants to be called
a journalist anymore. To be honest with you, I came
in this way, all go out this way. That's just
my approach. Nick is a cancer. He says that he's
a Kansas City fan. It's you know, goes along with
the territory there. He's an entertainer. Pat McAfee, he's an entertainer.
(31:05):
Stephen A. Smith used to be a journalist. He's an entertainer. Now,
this is what they get paid to do. Journalists don't
get paid. Entertainers get paid. Okay, but I don't have
any problem with Nick coming on here, and it's part
of the entertainment that he's so over the top of
the kmpas City Chiefs, not the end of the world.
Speaker 2 (31:26):
Adam in Michigan, Hi, Adam, what's on your mind today?
Speaker 11 (31:30):
Hey Dan?
Speaker 2 (31:30):
How's it going all great? Adam? I did good.
Speaker 9 (31:34):
Hope you guys all get the meat sweats later on,
wishing that for you. Just wanted to go back a
couple of weeks. I love it when you guys dive
into jerseys and uniforms. I could listen to that all day.
I was thinking in the NFL a lot of the
jersey changes in the two thousands, when like Teal and
the TRAPEZOI kind of ruin all those jerseys really sparked
(31:56):
some franchises success. The Patriots, they went from one of
the coolest jerseys with the guy snapping the ball, terrible
franchise into those ugly jerseys. They were now started a dynasty.
My Broncos Mount Rushmore Orange crust jerseys lost four Super
Bowls and they changed to the ones now, which are good,
(32:17):
and they won their first two Super Bowls. Let's see Seattle,
the Eagles, they ruin their greens and they find success.
It's just kind of odd, and I was wonder if
you guys had thought about that at all. Tampa Bay
is another one.
Speaker 3 (32:29):
Lloween, we thought about it way too much, madam, but
thank you. In fact, first thing, first thing I come
in today and Pauli goes packer uniform. I go, what
you gotta have piping down the side the pants you do,
and then the helmet should have a yellow, you know,
the Green Bay yellow.
Speaker 6 (32:45):
They were so close to being great.
Speaker 3 (32:46):
Yeah, so that's the first thing he wants to talk
about that. And then I said, what about the commanders.
That commanders is too small, that the name commander's too small,
and you gotta have piping down the side. So this
is this is what I walked into today. Yes, we
do talk about uniforms. Wake Forest uniforms terrible last night.
(33:07):
Now they were Saints Opening week, bad uniforms. It's a
topic of conversation. Paulie probably yeah, yeah, that's probably right
there at the top of his On Mondays after a
long weekend where you get to see all these games,
and now he will compliment a fan base or you know,
a team. He'll be like, hey, they did it right,
they you know stylish, will come in and be like, man,
(33:30):
North Carolina's uniforms are awesome, Chargers awesome. You know, Saints
can have some great, great color Georgia Tech. You know
once again in Colorado. This is what happens on the show.
Speaker 6 (33:42):
Yes, Paul, it's the aesthetic that people talk about during games.
It's really fun when it plays out on social media
and people are like, what are they doing? Why would
they do that?
Speaker 2 (33:49):
You know?
Speaker 3 (33:50):
I know I hate when the college team gives kids
their names on the back of the jerseys but you
can't see them, like it's really small.
Speaker 2 (33:58):
You're a fontist, yes, very much so. I like a
large font. Yep, you always have, Like I want to
see it now. Are you proud of the kids that
you have?
Speaker 3 (34:07):
Like, all right, let me put it on here, just
a little one. Yes to the name on the front,
dan oh, let's get that strue. There's a lot of
uniforms that don't have a name on the front though.
Speaker 11 (34:19):
Yes.
Speaker 6 (34:20):
If you ever go to an Army home football game,
which you have, sometimes they put on the back of
the jersey, either Army or West Point or something like that.
I went with my friend who doesn't know anything about sports.
He goes, hey, look at that guy's name is Army.
No no, no, no, no, no no, I go look
at the other seventy dudes.
Speaker 2 (34:35):
He was meant to come here, yes, ton. And sometimes
they go to a different direction.
Speaker 7 (34:39):
The military cameras will.
Speaker 4 (34:40):
Be like courage, bravery, and it's not even a name,
it's just adjective to describe how they go about their lives.
Speaker 3 (34:46):
Let's take a break. More phone calls coming up up next,
our Play of the Day.

slot and left man faking the handoff.
Speaker 1 (35:17):
Love rolls right, throws and.

Puts down late cut a beautiful life that like Jordan
Love Tucker Craft eight guard touchdown.

Here's something for you. The oldest team in the NFL
(36:02):
has the oldest roster in the league since nineteen ninety seven.
This team has the oldest roster in the NFL and
the oldest roster in the league since nineteen ninety seven,
San Francisco forty nine Ers. You wouldn't think it would
be the Washington Commanders because they have a young quarterback.
(36:25):
But this is a team that also has Von Miller,
Bobby Wagner, Deebo, Samuel Terry McLaurin. Their average age is
just under twenty nine years of age. It's not something
you think of with the Commanders.
Speaker 1 (36:39):
Now.
Speaker 3 (36:39):
I did have somebody say last night von Miller is
still playing? I said, yes, Von Miller is still playing
for the Commanders this year. All right, A couple more
phone calls in here Bo in California, Hi Bo, what's
on your mind today?
Speaker 9 (36:55):
What up? DP? Thanks for taking my call?
Speaker 11 (36:57):
First time, long time.
Speaker 9 (37:01):
US a whole.
Speaker 13 (37:05):
And today's Mine's my birthday, big four eight, And I'm
not calling to have grown men sing happy birthday to me.
But I know you love love and my wife of
twenty three years has taken me to Darius Rucker tonight,
So I'm calling to see if you're still handing out
to meet and Greece.
Speaker 2 (37:22):
No I am not.
Speaker 3 (37:23):
I'm not handing them out, but bo, I appreciate you asking,
and I would sing a happy birthday song, but you
don't want grown men singing you Happy birthday. But have
a great time tonight. Yes, yes, I.
Speaker 6 (37:36):
Do appreciate the no shame direct ask.
Speaker 2 (37:39):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (37:41):
Yeah, I did that for the basketball coach at Wisconsin
Stevens Point. But I have a relationship with him and
they sent me a jersey and I'm part of the team.
Speaker 2 (37:50):
Yes, ton Oh that the.
Speaker 7 (37:51):
Process is that easy. There's nothing to do but to
hand it out like you're handing out a ticket or
something like that.
Speaker 3 (37:55):
Are candidate, Well, apparently I let somebody sing on stage
with Darius. Yeah, yeah, I can't hand out backstage passes.
I got to be fair to Darius, but maybe he
didn't know about it this last time.
Speaker 2 (38:09):
Let's see Keith in Chico. Hi Keith, Hey guys, Happy Friday.
Speaker 13 (38:15):
Yeah, I just want to give credit to the Packers
offensive play.
Speaker 2 (38:18):
Calling and Jordan Love.
Speaker 13 (38:20):
Find it interesting how well Love.
Speaker 9 (38:22):
Is playing the position.
Speaker 13 (38:23):
He's pushing the ball downfield and the competent runner.
Speaker 9 (38:26):
Of the football too.
Speaker 13 (38:27):
Though the roster doesn't seem that impressive, they're making the
game look really easy, and I just wanted to give
them a bunch of credit.
Speaker 2 (38:33):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (38:34):
Yeah, they're getting a lot of credit, you know. But
you know, we're going to talk about the defense. But
because you held the Lions and Commander's offenses, two offenses
that average at least twenty eight points per game last season,
and you help them to a combine thirty one points, Yeah,
we should be talking about the Packers defense. Four sacks,
(38:55):
twelve quarterback hits and this is four days after having
four sacks nine quarterback hits against the lines. I mean,
Michael Parsons is making an impact because his numbers might
not be great at the end of the season. He
might have eight and a half sacks, but the other
players around him, they're gonna love him come contract time.
(39:17):
They be like, thank you, sir, thank you. Like Jalen
Carter with the Eagles, Aaron Donald with the Rams. They're
gonna help all those other players.
Speaker 9 (39:27):
Uh.
Speaker 2 (39:27):
Jeff in Tampa, Good morning, Jeff.
Speaker 14 (39:30):
Hey, good morning VP. I was going to talk to
the local team here and you're in my USF bulls.
Speaker 2 (39:36):
Yeah, a couple of things.
Speaker 14 (39:37):
I mean, I think the seventeen and a half points
getting that, I think that's the free money. Well, I
have you know uff is? I mean, okay, I was
in Florida's Furtle recruiting grounds and we're finally getting an
on campus stadium, which will help with ton. So I
was hoping maybe you could share the perspective on how
you sure about USF this weekend, and then also, like
(39:58):
long term, but we have a shot of retaining coach,
he'll be a hot property.
Speaker 3 (40:02):
Yeah, I probably am not going to do a deep
dive on South Florida. I mean, there's other things to
talk about. I hope they do well. I off to
a great start the way they won their first two games.
Speaker 2 (40:14):
You know, it's a it's a good story. Yes, tut,
I thought you were bullish on South. No, I got
other things to talk about.
Speaker 3 (40:20):
I already spend time on South Florida, all right, I
didn't get a jersey like this is you know, reciprocal,
like I'm you know, talking about you.
Speaker 2 (40:30):
Why don't you share some love?
Speaker 3 (40:32):
Here's a reasonable request. Would you check the mail see
if I've got my South Florida jersey.
Speaker 2 (40:39):
Ye'll probably be.
Speaker 7 (40:39):
Here by Monday or Tuesday the latest.
Speaker 2 (40:41):
I would.
Speaker 3 (40:41):
Well, if they lose, then maybe hold off of the jersey.
But if they win, they beat Miami. Now, all of
a sudden, we are in the top ten. Yes, Marvin.
Speaker 7 (40:53):
If they just lose this one game and run the
table the rest of the season, can they still get
into the playoffs?
Speaker 3 (40:58):
Probably not? Not all right, we did one hour already,
it's done, it's gone. But we get two more on
this Friday. Every day is super Bowl win or lose.
We celebrate Todd love it. Somebody got twelve hours of
sleep yesterday and they're feeling energetic. Fritzy's here, Seaton's here,
(41:20):
Marv Paula yours truly Hour two on the way.
