Speaker 1 (00:00):
You are listening to The Dan Patrick Show on Fox
Sports Radio Hour two on this Friday. It's a meat Friday.

Speaker 2 (00:07):
Following the meet Thursday, just went outside and inspected the grills, cheeseburgers,
hot dogs, and pork belly baked beans.

Speaker 3 (00:16):
Who has it better than we do?

Speaker 2 (00:18):
No stat of the Day brought to you by Panini
America Official trading cards to the Dan Patrick Show. The
merchandise stores open Danpatrick dot com. And from the folks
that brought you the office comes the new comedy of
Underdogs with Major Issues. The paper streaming now only on
Peacock Fritzie's Here, Seaton, Marv, Pauli yours truly, We'll get

(00:39):
to more phone calls. Herm Edwards ESPN analyst and got
to coach Jayden Daniels at Arizona State. Herm will join
us coming up in about twenty minutes from now. All
eyes on green Bay and understandably so spent a lot
of time in the first hour talking about Green Bay,
and I want to spend a little time about Washington

(00:59):
because they were a great story last year. And yes,
I've told you many times I wasn't buying into them
this year because I did look at last year and
they were pulling out a lot of these games, and
a good portion of their win total was I'm not
saying fluky, but I'm just saying that last second, you know,
things went right for them, and I thought they were

(01:21):
going to regress just a little bit. When we had
Nick right on yesterday, Nick Wright was talking about it
feels like every year there's four or five teams from
the previous year that we go they're going to be
in contention to win a Super Bowl. But there's always
one of those five or six teams that falls out.
Something happens. You know, Philadelphia they won a Super Bowl,

(01:41):
lost a couple of coordinators, and then they dip down.
You see those teams after success, they lose coordinators, maybe
lose a couple players, they dip down a little bit.
And I'm looking at the Commanders and while I think
they're a playoff team, I don't think they're going to
be that NFC title team. Detroit may take a step down.

(02:02):
They lost both of their coordinators. We saw that very
vanilla offense against green Bay, and green Bay a much
better team than Detroit that first week. There's going to
be a couple of teams that you go, I never
saw that coming. It happens every single year. That's the
guest work of Is Tampa going to be in the
NFC Title Game?

Speaker 3 (02:22):
And you might be thinking, are they that good?

Speaker 2 (02:24):
Well, if you get home field advantage, let's say you
get eleven wins. Now all of a sudden they're coming
into Tampa. Now, all of a sudden, they can become
an NFC Championship caliber team. Detroit, that's a tough division,
or at least we think it's going to be. Maybe
Chicago doesn't take that step up with Ben Johnson and
Caleb Williams Minnesota basically as a rookie quarterback. Are they

(02:47):
going to be close to what they were last year?
You know, you're just now green Bay looks like the
class of the division, and they might be that, and
the NFC Title Game could go through Lambeau. With everything
that we saw last night. The Commanders lost Austin Eckler,
and you know, he's one of those you don't realize

(03:07):
sometimes and then you watch and then you go, oh, okay,
that's why they got him. But they traded away Ryan
Robinson in the off season, and now you lose Austin Eckler, it.

Speaker 3 (03:20):
Looks like for the season.

Speaker 2 (03:21):
See, these are just the little things that happen, and
then all of a sudden, you're trying to fill a spot.
You take a step back, you're you know, you start
out one in three. Now all of a sudden, you know,
you just you're trying to figure out who you are.
And I still think with Jayden Daniels, you know, Terry McLaurin,

(03:41):
I don't know if you can count on Deebo Samuel
to be well as good as he was in week one.
But you're not going to go up against a defense
like Green Bay very often. What's the schedule for the Commanders?

Speaker 4 (03:54):
Commanders host the Raiders at the Falcons, at the Chargers
host the Bears at the Cowboy at the Chiefs. That's
their first half.

Speaker 3 (04:01):
Okay, that's not easy sledding there. You could have two
or three more losses in there, you know.

Speaker 2 (04:12):
And we love to handicap and we go, well, that's
a win, and that's it when that's a loss. And
that's what I mean. How many times are we surprised
every single weekend? Where you go, Damn, I didn't think Jets,
We're going to beat the Bills these things happen matchups.
Sometimes you don't look at it, or we don't have
the educated eye to look at it, and you go, well,
that's why they won. But you're going to have surprises here,

(04:33):
and you're going to have a team that's in the
playoffs and you're going to go, how did they get there?
And you're going to have a team that doesn't make
the playoffs where you go, how did they not make it?

Speaker 3 (04:41):
Every single year it happens.

Speaker 2 (04:43):
We say good morning if you're watching on Peacock, thank
you for downloading the app, and we say good morning
to our radio affiliates as well. Stat of the Day
brought to you by the great folks at Panini America,
the official trading cards of the Dan Patrick Show. First
hour poll question results Seaton, Yeah, we got up there,
our first dude poll question of the year. Very exciting day, dude,

(05:07):
Green Bay Packers, Aaron Judge, Oregon Ducks football or other
We have up there, dude, Possibly recency bias, also possibly
very very accurate. Right now, the Packers have about sixty
four percent of that dude vote.

Speaker 3 (05:20):
Pretty good, dude, pretty good.

Speaker 2 (05:23):
Tucker Craft six balls for one twenty four in a
touchdown last time at Green Bay tight end had a
one hundred yard game.

Speaker 3 (05:33):
Jimmy Graham in twenty eighteen, Is that right, Dad of
your Day?

Speaker 2 (05:38):
Satday, Pop BOP's Dad of the Day stat of the
day comes that?

Speaker 5 (05:44):
What stat of the day.

Speaker 3 (05:48):
Also one of my favorites.

Speaker 2 (05:49):
Josh Jacobs scored a rushing touchdown tenth consecutive game. That's
the longest streak in the NFL. The longest streak since
this guy had eleven consecutive games with a rushing touchdown
twenty twenty one. Eleven consecutive games with at least one
rushing touchdown.

Speaker 4 (06:10):
Marvin Alvin Kamera, No, Paul Jonathan Taylor, Yes.

Speaker 2 (06:20):
Jonathan j Tyrre you're with now? You didn't cheat on that.
I'm gonna guess that you've never cheat. Okay, Wow, Im sorry,
I have to throw that out. You have to I do.

Speaker 3 (06:33):
The third time. Okay, Marvin has cheated before?

Speaker 6 (06:36):
Wow?

Speaker 3 (06:37):
No, he has.

Speaker 4 (06:37):
I think he admitted it in the moment.

Speaker 2 (06:39):
Well, I think that maybe our reaction made him admit
to it. When you saw what I had some stats
of the day, and then you might have seen the paperwork.

Speaker 3 (06:50):
Right, I'm just saying.

Speaker 7 (06:52):
When that gives you the paperwork, like, oh, that was
Baron Davis.

Speaker 3 (06:57):
How to get that Pete chill cut? Yeah.

Speaker 2 (07:01):
Uh, here's a side topic, and it's a sad topic.
Mike Trout homered in a loss to Seattle. If a
tree falls in the forest.

Speaker 3 (07:13):
I know, dude, damn dang.

Speaker 7 (07:17):
I know.

Speaker 3 (07:18):
It's terrible.

Speaker 2 (07:19):
He had gone twenty eight games without a home run.
He now has three hundred and ninety nine career home runs.
Fifty six have come against the Mariners, most by any
player against Seattle on franchise history. Oh, it's a few
years ago, you know, i'ven I implored the Angels to
trade Mike Trout and to trade show heyo, TONI Ah,

(07:46):
Mike Trout's the first Ballance Hall of Famer.

Speaker 3 (07:47):
Like those first ten years, it's double free.

Speaker 2 (07:51):
Unanimous, like you're just going, oh my god, yeah, robber Stam,
he's in there. And then when's the last time you
watched a Mike Trout game highlight? I haven't in a
long time. I've seen some highlights, but it's one of
those where Marvin goes, hey, Mike Troudhomer.

Speaker 3 (08:08):
And I go, oh my god, Mike Trout.

Speaker 2 (08:10):
Okay, I figured he probably has you know, like thirty
two home runs, and you know, I don't even know
what his numbers are anymore. He's played in one playoff series.
So one of the greatest players of our generation. You're
not gonna have any memories of anything more than yeah,

(08:32):
I saw some highlights. They seem pretty good. Did he
play with pools?

Speaker 3 (08:38):
Yes, Marvin, he's.

Speaker 8 (08:39):
Going to be a baseball reference guy. You're not gonna
see his highlights, and you're just gonna read about his highlights.

Speaker 3 (08:45):
It's hard not to make the playoffs. It is.

Speaker 2 (08:48):
Baseball wants to have teams make the playoffs. But this
is eleven years ago that he made the playoffs and
only had three games against Kansas City.

Speaker 9 (08:59):
That's a long time eleven years. Eleven years ago is
a long time ago. Eleven yes, Pauline.

Speaker 4 (09:04):
Mike Trout, he's just turned thirty four. He's not thirty
nine or forty into crepit. He hit two thirty five
with twenty one homers this year and he had five
hundred and three played appearances. He played a lot of baseball.

Speaker 3 (09:17):
This guy.

Speaker 4 (09:18):
He was either first or second in the MVP voting
for seven straight years. He's double first ballot. Whatever is
better than that.

Speaker 2 (09:25):
Yeah, but Theezer and even that contract, I said, don't
sign him to that twelve year contract.

Speaker 5 (09:31):
Don't.

Speaker 8 (09:34):
Yesked Marvin in ten years, somebody's gonna say, you know,
sho heeo Tani and Mike Trout were on the same team, like, oh,
what they do nothing? Almost Like hey, Russell Westbrook and
Kevin Durant and James Harden were on the same team
at one time.

Speaker 3 (09:48):
And what did they do? Nothing? Yes, Paulin.

Speaker 4 (09:53):
Mike Trout's contract for the next six years is thirty
seven million dollars per year guaranteed.

Speaker 3 (10:00):
Now, if he's playing well, then that could be a bargain.

Speaker 5 (10:02):
Yes.

Speaker 4 (10:03):
When he signed that, which was in twenty nineteen, thirty
seven was a lot. Now thirty seven. He's not in
the top ten highest paid players.

Speaker 2 (10:10):
Oh, man, And I know he's gone through some injuries.
But and it's not that I don't like him or
appreciate him. It's just, man, I forgot about him. It
would be if Anthony Edwards of Minnesota won a couple
of MVPs, but he was on a team that didn't
really do anything, although they made the playoffs a couple

(10:31):
of times.

Speaker 3 (10:32):
I don't know if there's an analogy for Mike Trump.
Well that's kind of how the Trout's career started, right, Yeah,
but he won MVPs. He just on the West coast.

Speaker 2 (10:41):
You don't get you're not getting front and center highlights.
You know, Sports Center is not leading with you. Yes, Tom,
but after the Edwards a.

Speaker 10 (10:49):
Leasy's got that smile, that charisma, has got the ant
man nickname track, doesn't you know, not that he has to,
but it doesn't do anything to help himself personality was
So it makes it even more forgettable when your irrelevant
as far your team and not coming anywhere near will.

Speaker 2 (11:02):
I can't ask him to be something he's not. I mean,
you hope they can sell the game. I mean, sho
hey o Tani doesn't. He's not doing interviews. He's just
a great player. I mean, I have to. If Mike
Trout was on the Dodgers and doing what he's doing,
then all of a sudden, his place in history changes
dramatically because he would be playing in playoff games. He'd

(11:24):
be playing in a World Series if he played for
the Yankees, although the Yankees don't make postseason two or
World Series.

Speaker 3 (11:31):
That often anymore, although they did last year.

Speaker 4 (11:34):
I know, yes, well, there's really not a camp. I
was trying to shoehorn Barry Sanders that Barry Sanders played
in futility.

Speaker 3 (11:41):
Way but he didn't win MVPs.

Speaker 4 (11:43):
But Barry made the playoffs six different times in his career.
That's a lot, that's a good amount, not once and there.

Speaker 2 (11:51):
I don't know if there is a player camp for
Mike Trout. It's a shame, you know, from the standpoint
of watching a great baseball player, five tool player, and
he hasn't hasn't been showcased. But yes, you're gonna have
shoe Hey, Donny and Mike Trout were on the same thing,
Mike Trout. Albert Poole is on the same thing and

(12:14):
nothing to show for it.

Speaker 4 (12:16):
Yeah, Paul, I was just looking at Barry Sanders' stats,
which is always transfixing. He played ten years. Guess how
many times he was not all pro?

Speaker 7 (12:24):
None?

Speaker 3 (12:24):
None times.

Speaker 4 (12:26):
That's how many times, you know, no, none times? Perfection?

Speaker 2 (12:31):
Yes, yes, he was ten for two, a perfect ten,
perfect ten. Jared in Ohio, Hi, Jared, what's on your
mind today?

Speaker 11 (12:40):
Hey?

Speaker 6 (12:40):
Dan Danett's first time five eleven five?

Speaker 3 (12:44):
Wait are you down in the dumps?

Speaker 6 (12:46):
Jared, No, I've just got a little congestion.

Speaker 2 (12:49):
Oh suck it up. Come on, they almost died yesterday, Jared.
I mean I showed up for work. I'm Marvin had
to carry me in and carry me out.

Speaker 6 (13:00):
No, well, I had to make i't even want to
make a comment on the jerseys. In twenty fourteen, Big
Ben Week eight versus the Goal through six touchdowns five
hundred yards while wearing the Bumblebee uniforms, and then in
Week nine versus the Ravens threw six touchdowns three hundred yards.
So I think they should bring back the Bumblebee uniforms.

Speaker 2 (13:23):
I like them once a year, and I'm okay with
once a year. But thank you, Jared. I hope you
feel better. Duke and Boise, I do what's on your mind?

Speaker 12 (13:36):
Hey Dan, Happy Friday Fellows. Two quick things. One, I'd
like to thank the Mariners fan last week and this
is true who hired a gypsy off at sea to
put a wind spell on the Mariners and since then
they's ripped off five in a row. So thank you, sir.

Speaker 2 (13:53):
All Right, Mariners, you know, coupled with the Houston Laws
Seattle in the first place time with the astros.

Speaker 3 (14:00):
How about that? What else, Duke Well, I.

Speaker 12 (14:04):
Need some reassurance. Last night, at the end of the game,
they tell you to stick around for the postgame show
brought to you by J C.

Speaker 5 (14:12):
Penny.

Speaker 12 (14:13):
Am I the only one that thought they went belly
up like twenty years ago? But not only are they open,
they're thriving. They've got NFL postgame show money. Tell me,
I'm not the only one that was shocked by that, Todd.

Speaker 10 (14:27):
I kind of thought they were out of business too,
But Shaquille O'Neil's in one of those J. C. Petty commercials,
So they've got a few bucks somewhere.

Speaker 9 (14:32):
That means Shack just bought them in true, he's got
seventy five percent of them and it's going to bring
them into be a worth a hundred billion dollars.

Speaker 2 (14:40):
Yeah, Shaq isn't paid to be a spokesperson. He wants
a piece of the company. Correct, He wants equity.

Speaker 4 (14:46):
Yes, the big equity is his new nick nackig J C.
Penny six hundred and fifty stores nationwide and Puerto Rico,
and they filed for bankruptcy in twenty twenty. A lot
of coverage, but they restructured.

Speaker 2 (14:56):
As they say, there's a store that's not too far
from us that they closed down.

Speaker 3 (15:01):
And I remember J C. Penny was a big deal.

Speaker 2 (15:05):
Didn't Johnny Miller the golfer didn't have his Johnny Miller
collection at j C Penny.

Speaker 4 (15:09):
Back to school shopping?

Speaker 3 (15:10):
Yeh see, I.

Speaker 9 (15:11):
Remember it was a big deal, like especially around the holidays,
like the or maybe it's the Sears catalog.

Speaker 3 (15:17):
You get the Sears catalog at Christmas? Yep.

Speaker 9 (15:19):
You go through circle the things that you really want
or something's.

Speaker 3 (15:23):
And leave it out for your parents to see it. Yeah. Yeah,
be like I circled fifteen g I joes. Yeah I
didn't get one.

Speaker 2 (15:32):
It never worked for my mom, it didn't. We'd circle,
we'd put stars on the help. Yeah I did circle.

Speaker 3 (15:40):
Socks? Why did I get socks?

Speaker 2 (15:41):
And our stocking stuffer? It was always always socks? And
I go, Mom, I didn't ask for it. She goes,
I didn't get them Santa did?

Speaker 7 (15:51):
I go?

Speaker 3 (15:52):
Oh God?

Speaker 2 (15:52):
Yes?

Speaker 9 (15:53):
Funny is that now? At this age in life, I
depend on that, Like if I didn't get sucks, I
would be like, what the hell, where's the darn tuff's
or something?

Speaker 3 (16:01):
No socks in here.

Speaker 2 (16:02):
This is let's take a break. HERB Edwards will join

Speaker 2 (17:00):
HERM Edwards, ESPN football analyst, former NFL college head coach
coach Jayden Daniels at Arizona State for a few years,
and of course, played defensive back in the league for
ten seasons. Did you ever trademark you played to win
the game?

Speaker 14 (17:16):
Dan?

Speaker 5 (17:16):
I did not. And you know, if someone told me
to do that, and I was like.

Speaker 14 (17:19):
Ahh, I'm missed out on that one.

Speaker 3 (17:25):
How often do you hear that in the course of
the day or a week.

Speaker 5 (17:29):
Yeah, every time you're traveling.

Speaker 14 (17:30):
Right when I go back to the Worldwide Leader to
the mother to the mothership in the airports, Hey, coach,
And I.

Speaker 5 (17:36):
Know before they say it, Dan, I go, I know,
I know, I said, I get it. I get it.

Speaker 2 (17:41):
Had you used that line before you got to the
Press County, you know, that just came up.

Speaker 5 (17:47):
Just came out, just Dan just came out.

Speaker 7 (17:50):
You know.

Speaker 14 (17:50):
It's like and it was funny because we're sitting there.
We're sitting there at two and five. This is my
second season, I think it is, Yeah, and we're struggling,
you know, and they're talking about you know, am I
gonna fire coaches and all that, and.

Speaker 5 (18:05):
So I'm getting rapped up as the talking and then
I just spit it out. I went, you know, you
played to win the game, right.

Speaker 14 (18:12):
And so it was on a Tuesday and the players
were off and on Monday they come in. Wednesday they
come in and they say, coach, we heard what you said.
I getting ready to have a team meeting. If Chad
Pennington stands up and he goes, coach, we heard what
you said. And I said, are we good? I looked
at the team and everybody, We're good, Coach. We won

(18:34):
the division.

Speaker 3 (18:37):
So it worked.

Speaker 5 (18:39):
It turned around, and I didn't.

Speaker 14 (18:41):
Need it for that, but I just meant it like,
hey man, we're trying to win a game.

Speaker 5 (18:45):
Guys, I said, it doesn't matter, did you we ain't
go win a football game? And they flipped the switch.

Speaker 2 (18:51):
You know, Can you have a must win situation in
week two? Yeah, like the Dolphins situation against the Page.
It feels really tenuous here.

Speaker 14 (19:02):
Yeah, they need to they they Yeah, because of what
transpired last year, right, and all of a sudden, this
is not the same team we saw three years ago.

Speaker 5 (19:10):
Uh, they're a shell of what they were.

Speaker 14 (19:13):
And yeah, I don't think he coach might not make
it if they lose two or three more. Him and
the guy at the Giants, well, what will happened with
the Giants is this?

Speaker 5 (19:24):
And I said this, what will happen is if they
get to one and three, they're.

Speaker 14 (19:28):
Gonna change the quarterback they got to because that's the
quarterback of the future.

Speaker 5 (19:32):
You got to put the.

Speaker 14 (19:33):
Guy in the game.

Speaker 5 (19:34):
I mean, just put this plane. You know.

Speaker 14 (19:35):
That's what I did when I changed from Vinnie to Jad.
You know, we were sitting there and I was on
air We were on airplane. We lost to Cleveland and
we were coming back and I was in the back.
I always hitting the back of the players, and I
told the Stuarts to go get that packing was the
offensive coordinator.

Speaker 5 (19:51):
I said, bring it back to the planes work.

Speaker 15 (19:53):
We know we had lost the Jacksonville. I'm sorry, we
had lost to Jacksonville. And he comes back in the
back and I said, I'm to make a change. He said,
what were we talking about? Coaches, sit, We're going to
change quarterbacks? Win, I said, this week, I said, we're
putting ten.

Speaker 5 (20:05):
In the game.

Speaker 14 (20:05):
That was Chad, And then we ended up getting in
the playoffs winning ten games.

Speaker 5 (20:10):
Yeah, be you.

Speaker 3 (20:12):
Now was Chad? How long had he been in the league.

Speaker 14 (20:15):
He been in the league about two years the second
year because Bill drafted him. But Vinnie was still there
and I got there and Vinny started the first year
and we got in the playoffs, and the second year
we were shaky, and then I said, you know what,
we got to change and I put him in and
we ended up that's.

Speaker 5 (20:31):
The year we want a division.

Speaker 2 (20:32):
But see, that's where I don't know. I'd like Jackson Dard.
I think he's a starter in the league. I think
he's got a lot of talent, yep. I just don't
know if if he's ready, well, I don't know if
the team is ready for him to go in and
and that he doesn't, you know, get I don't want
his confidence crashed.

Speaker 14 (20:48):
Now. You know what though, if people say that Dan
and I get all that, but you know, there's the
reason you drafted this guy.

Speaker 5 (20:54):
De High and I go, you know what, Peyton Manning
through twenty eight interceptions guys this first year.

Speaker 14 (21:00):
And if you draft a guy when you think he's
going to crack under pressure, you drafted the wrong guy.

Speaker 5 (21:05):
You can't draft that guy. That's the first thing you've
got to understand.

Speaker 2 (21:08):
But I'm not talking about cracking under pressure as much
as you know if you don't have the offensive line
blocking for you, or you don't have no doubt running.

Speaker 3 (21:16):
Down, but you know and correct.

Speaker 14 (21:19):
But the first thing you do, basically is when this
happens and what I've done.

Speaker 5 (21:24):
I walk in the defensive room.

Speaker 14 (21:27):
And tell him, say, I'm getting ready put him in
the game. And I said, let me tell you what
he's gonna do. He's gonna throw the ball to the
bad guys. He ain't gonna be to do it.

Speaker 5 (21:35):
He's gonna throw it. When he throws it to him,
hold him.

Speaker 14 (21:37):
To a field goal, so don't get mad. And he
starts out. When that happens, the decause the players come
off the field, they go, good, you told us it's okay.

Speaker 16 (21:46):
We're all right? Did I said that?

Speaker 5 (21:47):
Told you this week in practice he's gonna go to
the bad guys.

Speaker 2 (21:53):
One thing I don't understand is, and we saw this
with Jordan Love last night.

Speaker 3 (21:56):
He lowers his shoulder.

Speaker 2 (21:58):
Yeah, I'm sure you told your quarterbacks get out of bounds, slide.
That's September. Why do these guys feel like they need
to be football players.

Speaker 5 (22:08):
I have no idea.

Speaker 14 (22:09):
And it's almost like you tell them, hey man, look, look,
knowing the journey's over, slide or get.

Speaker 5 (22:15):
Out of bounds, just don't don't we know you're a
tough guy. You play quarterback. You gotta be tough to
play quarterback because you.

Speaker 14 (22:21):
Get hit a lot, but don't don't run into guys.
I said, I tell I sell this quarterback, protect your
you're throwing shoulder. You always make sure when you get tackled,
protect that because you got to play the next.

Speaker 3 (22:33):
Flat he lowered his throwing shoulder.

Speaker 5 (22:36):
I know they're going to show that if this.

Speaker 14 (22:39):
Is one of those moments where when you get into
film study, you put this on tape for everybody, for
the whole team to watch. You go.

Speaker 5 (22:46):
You see our quarterback, he's a tough guy. Okay, you're
showing everybody you're tough. I don't want to see this again.

Speaker 3 (22:55):
You played to play another play? Yes, yes, I gonna.

Speaker 2 (23:00):
Herm Edwards ESPN football analysts. When do you get a
true sense of how good or bad your team is?

Speaker 9 (23:06):
Like?

Speaker 3 (23:06):
How many games for you?

Speaker 5 (23:09):
I would say with the schedule.

Speaker 14 (23:11):
Now, after a month of football, you've got a pretty
good feeling of kind of what you are and then
your your question is this, how do we how do
we adjust to the players we have and what do
we need.

Speaker 5 (23:23):
To do different? If you're struggling, right, and.

Speaker 14 (23:26):
That's that first month, you're going to find out all
the war when you after a month, you go, okay,
here's the deal.

Speaker 5 (23:32):
If you're one and three, you're going, okay, why are
we one and three?

Speaker 8 (23:36):
Uh?

Speaker 2 (23:36):
You know what?

Speaker 14 (23:37):
What what is the what is what is our First
of all, what is our strength?

Speaker 5 (23:41):
Let's play through our strength now because we're not gonna
get any new players.

Speaker 14 (23:45):
These are the guys we got. So what is our strength?
What do we do well? I know we want to
do this on offense. I know we want to do
that on defense. We've done it for a month. Boys,
it ain't working. This is what you're telling your stat
So we.

Speaker 5 (23:55):
Got to fix this.

Speaker 14 (23:56):
It's our job to fix it now because we're stuck
with these players, and these players are stuff with us.

Speaker 5 (24:00):
So how do we fix it? And that's what you
go about doing.

Speaker 2 (24:03):
Then if the Packers played the Eagles today, who would win?

Speaker 5 (24:08):
Probably the Packers?

Speaker 14 (24:10):
Okay, I think the Packers are really good, Dan, I
think people lose sight of the Packers of this sense.
I'm gonna say this to it. They were fifth in
total defense last year. People don't realize that they were fifth.
You know, when you think got the Packers, you think
of this offense. Oh boy, they got a really good defense.

(24:30):
They do a nice job of taking the ball away.
And here's the crazy part. Last year they were eighth
in the league in sacks, they had forty five. They
got this guy number one. Now they gave him the
number of Lambeau.

Speaker 5 (24:44):
Or Curly Lambeau. They let him use the number.

Speaker 14 (24:47):
Now they've gone from a forty five sacked team to
a sixty plus sacked team with that guy number one.
They're a totally different defense now with him.

Speaker 2 (24:57):
But the Eagle, I still have to trust the Eagles
in chief until they lose.

Speaker 5 (25:02):
I trust them, but I worry about this.

Speaker 14 (25:05):
The Eagles lost some players, right, they lost some guys, now, okay,
and every week we went through this. When when I
was with the Eagles, when we went to the super Bowl,
we didn't win, but we lost.

Speaker 5 (25:19):
The next year was very difficult.

Speaker 14 (25:21):
Because you get everybody's best game because you're the Super
Bowl guys, and every week it's like a playoff game,
and it's just wears you down. It's like, man, every
week we're taking these body blows, you know, and it's
just can they get through it.

Speaker 5 (25:39):
I'm hoping they do, But I like Green Bay. Green
Bay is kind of sitting there and I don't know
if the green Bay Packers are going to lose a
game at home.

Speaker 2 (25:50):
What concerned you about Jaden Daniels and the Commanders last night?

Speaker 14 (25:54):
Oh well they couldn't you know. They bottled Jade up
as he didn't have the big explosive runs that generally
that that that that he's capable of of of of
garnering when he plays. They didn't allow the run game
to get started, right, and all of a sudden, Washington
was and they pressured him. They pressured him nice, and

(26:17):
he was he was. He wasn't very accurate at times
when they pressured him right, So there was no explosive plays.
Gently Washington has explosive plays. They have big now they
the good thing he washed us. They got Devo going,
which is good. That's a good thing. They got him
involved in the offense. But it was one of those games.
I didn't think they were going to beat green Bay

(26:37):
in Green Bay.

Speaker 5 (26:39):
Yeah, it's too hard to play him there, it just is.
And now they got that guy number one Parsons, Oh boy.

Speaker 3 (26:45):
Who's she reminded you of?

Speaker 5 (26:50):
He can wreck the game, he reminds me. Now, I
don't think he's this physical.

Speaker 14 (26:54):
But Lawrence Taylor, Lawrence Taylor was a physical I mean
we used to play it twice a year, oh boy,
and he used to lie I remember one time we
were playing him at Philly.

Speaker 5 (27:08):
He lies up I do on the right side and
his third down and he's even. He's going, j'all's I'm
coming to get you, and I'm going, Bud, this is
not good.

Speaker 16 (27:20):
Six is man.

Speaker 14 (27:22):
We try to block him, we try to chick him.
I'm going, you can't block this guy. Man.

Speaker 5 (27:26):
He was. He was unbelievable. He was just like when
he got going, it was like lights out, lights out. Man,
he gonna close the game out, you know.

Speaker 3 (27:35):
And Jaws can't run, so.

Speaker 5 (27:37):
No Jolls couldn't run. J'all's trying to waddle around. I'm
gonna y'all just get down. Throw the ball away, man,
don't let it hitch you.

Speaker 2 (27:46):
And there's only a couple of those players. That's why
when when Green Bay made the deal, I thought they
paid a little too much individually for Michael Parsons. But
you're still getting how many guys change a game. He came,
aside from a quarterback, truly change a game every single play.

Speaker 3 (28:06):
You have to know where that guy is.

Speaker 5 (28:09):
No, you're right, and and what they do.

Speaker 14 (28:10):
And I just mentioned this name as well, Reggie White, Right,
Reggie White was in Philly before he went to green Back.

Speaker 2 (28:16):
I think he might be the greatest defensive player in history, unbelieved.

Speaker 5 (28:19):
He came out of the World League or whatever that
league was, and Mary c fla USFL. Right, they had
so many leagues. I forget all the names of them.
But then and then he was. He was unbelievable, you know,
and you know, and you know he's a he's a preacher,
you know.

Speaker 14 (28:35):
And I can remember he would fat guys and he
would go and he'd pick him up, you know, he
lift him up and says, you know, make God bless
you today something.

Speaker 5 (28:45):
But he is really something. He was player. He was
a great player and a great human being.

Speaker 2 (28:50):
God blessed you, Reggie, not me getting sacked. Did you
ever get any of football's you have? I don't know
how many footballs you have behind, dude. Did you get
any of the interceptions signed by the quarterback who threw it?

Speaker 5 (29:04):
I did not, And you know what, I'm glad you
asked this question.

Speaker 14 (29:07):
So the first one, the first my first NFL interception
was in Los Angeles against the Rams, and you know
who the quarterback was, Joe Willie Namath. I have the
ball right here, Dan, I got the ball. So here's
the funny part. I'm a rookie. I intercept the ball.
They bring the ball to the sili.

Speaker 5 (29:28):
And I keep it.

Speaker 14 (29:28):
They put the paper around it, right and so at
the end of the game, you know, we're in the
coliseum then, and we're walking out of Tewn and I
have this ball. And I looked at some of the vets,
I said, you think of I asked.

Speaker 5 (29:41):
No, man, don't ask me to do that. But I
got the ball painted up. But this is Joe Willie. Man,
this is my first NFL interceptions against Joe Navy.

Speaker 3 (29:50):
And you know Joe would sign that now.

Speaker 14 (29:52):
Oh. You know it was funny because when I became
the head coach of the Jets, he came to the
press conference and.

Speaker 5 (29:58):
I told him, I said, you know, and he goes, oh,
I know you yesterday. Yeah, I got the ball at
the house.

Speaker 3 (30:04):
You should have brought it to the press conference.

Speaker 5 (30:07):
I was gonna come.

Speaker 2 (30:10):
Hey, great to talk to you as always. Have fun
at the Mothership save travels.

Speaker 5 (30:15):
I will my friend, thank you Bardner.

Speaker 3 (30:16):
That's herm Edwards of the Mothership.

Speaker 2 (30:19):
Former NFL and college head coach coach Jayden Daniels at
Arizona State for I think twenty nineteen to twenty twenty one.

Speaker 3 (30:27):
He's got energy, man James in Virginia.

Speaker 2 (30:31):
Somebody was talking a big game yesterday, Hi James, Oh.

Speaker 16 (30:36):
Thank you for taking my call. Brother, Happy Friday. DP.
Then that man slut the commander And I ain't no
doubt about a DT. I called in yesterday and was
hyping up the command in hardcore And let me tell you, man,
Herm just hit it. The Green Bay Packers defense, hands down,
is probably the best in the league right now. Michael Parsons,

(30:58):
man a nation that game about four first round drive
take away. That guy was playing last night all over
the field. Like Han said, Man, they stifled Jayden Daniels.
I only seen one other team do that in his
whole career, in his short career so far, and that's
the Philadelphia Eagles. Man. They did not allow him to
get outside of that pocket, not one time. Last night.

(31:21):
I talked about Crossy Merrit that this guy could be
a game changing back. They only gave him the ball
four times, and it was the best four runs of
the night for the Commanders. Man. The only good thing
going forward. They get a big schedule break. They got
ten days off. They played the Raiders next, who have
a Monday night and then have to travel to walk
In for a one o'clock so they need to take

(31:41):
advantage of that. Man. But wow, the Green Bay Packers,
watch out for green Bay man. I appreciate your DP, y'all,
have a wonderful day.

Speaker 3 (31:49):
Man for lou the Commanders, thank you, James.

Speaker 2 (31:51):
I love his positivity even when I know he's down
a little bit. Let's see Xavier and Texas then we'll
take a break.

Speaker 3 (32:01):
Hey, Zavier, what's on your mind?

Speaker 17 (32:03):
Good morning, DP, Big fit Mothership DS first time caller
five eight So Mike, Mike Cobb Is, Matthew Stafford and
Vike Trout. Matthew Stafford before the trade to LA putting
up Hall of Fame numbers with no little to no
playoffs run, no.

Speaker 2 (32:23):
Exposure of their Detroit Yeah, Matthew Stafford wasn't an MVP
in Detroit. He never made a Pro Bowl. I don't
think uh. Mike Trout was the best player in baseball.
He was a multi MVP, finished in the top five
every single year. Uh didn't have playoffs success only got
in you know, one playoff series.

Speaker 3 (32:45):
Uh.

Speaker 2 (32:46):
Stafford made the playoffs, but he wasn't the best quarterback
and wasn't an MVP. Mike Trout was the best player
in the game for years. All Right, we'll take a break.
More phone calls coming up. We're back after this.

Speaker 1 (33:00):

Speaker 3 (33:16):

Thank you.

Speaker 18 (33:21):
You have that kind of happen I saw Broncos Colts.
I'm like, I gotta get a horsing thing in there.

Speaker 3 (33:25):
Okay.

Speaker 18 (33:26):
I like the way it's described by Ray.

Speaker 10 (33:28):
The Broncos elite defense might show us justin who Daniel
Jones really is an indie Amen brother?

Speaker 2 (33:32):
Yeah, big day, Ray, some commentary here. Sliding into the weekend.
Broncos are one and a half point favorites at the Colts.

Speaker 3 (33:43):
Yes, Paul, you know a college game.

Speaker 4 (33:45):
I love Arkansas.

Speaker 2 (33:46):
Oh, don't get no hold on sliding. Yes, so I'm
doing the sliding into the weekend. Georgia against Tennessee Top
fifteen showdown, and we.

Speaker 3 (33:59):
Got cheated in week two.

Speaker 2 (34:00):
And this is a nice little matchup, number six against
number twelve Tennessee My South Florida Bowls. They they're facing Miami.
Should South Florida be ranked a little higher than they are?
We're going to find out.

Speaker 9 (34:14):
Okay, you can only watch one this weekend out of
all these games, No, of the two college football games.

Speaker 2 (34:21):
I'm going to watch South Florida against Miami. Well, obviously
you are. Yeah, yeah, South Florida. Let me see what's
what's my seventeen and a half five question mark they're getting?
If they beat Miami, they're top ten? Two you think so?

Speaker 5 (34:37):
Yes?

Speaker 3 (34:38):
Oh cold bull on the Oh you called bull cling
South Florida.

Speaker 5 (34:44):
Bull of that?

Speaker 18 (34:45):
Okay, jumping them up to.

Speaker 2 (34:47):
I don't know if it's okay. They have to win
the game, and I don't. They're seventeen and a.

Speaker 3 (34:51):
Half convincingly they need no in the top ten, top ten.

Speaker 9 (34:55):
Thirteen from the Matador to the top.

Speaker 2 (34:58):
Top ten, just saying nobody believes, Okay, yeah, Paul.

Speaker 4 (35:04):
I don't think they'll make it. I think they'll get
up to like thirteen.

Speaker 3 (35:06):
Okay, okay, how about the bet is?

Speaker 2 (35:09):
Uh?

Speaker 9 (35:09):
If they don't make the top ten, you have to
be a trained as a bullfighter.

Speaker 7 (35:14):
Again.

Speaker 2 (35:15):
If they do, then we have to I'll wear a
bowl costume. Running of the bulls, Yes, running of the bulls.
Here running, they all of us get costumed in the
parking lot.

Speaker 3 (35:24):
Yes, and then you all chase me. Yeah.

Speaker 9 (35:26):
Yeah, you're dressed up as bulls. Yeah TV yeah. Or
the flip side is you're dressed up as the bull
and we and then you guys have you guys have
swords and then you stabbed me.

Speaker 7 (35:39):
I go first, who got a little too excited about?

Speaker 3 (35:43):
What was that?

Speaker 7 (35:44):
That was supposed to be a thought bubble that was
not supposed to be said out last night?

Speaker 3 (35:47):
You would like me first? You would not catch me,
I were not saying.

Speaker 2 (35:51):
But if I did, I feel really good about being
running away from you.

Speaker 18 (35:57):
Should feel very confident that I won't get anywhere near.

Speaker 3 (35:59):
Yes, you got the first.

Speaker 9 (36:01):
I feel confident if you were like on all fours
running that way, Actually that were you?

Speaker 3 (36:06):
Tire todd out? I did just turned into a shot. Well,
I just said I'd be first to give you the
how's it feel if you flip that?

Speaker 18 (36:11):
You flip the script on you?

Speaker 3 (36:12):
Yeah, stab me in the back.

Speaker 9 (36:13):
All I said was I'd be the first to stab
you if you were a ball.

Speaker 10 (36:17):
All of a sudden, you got to make it about you.

Speaker 18 (36:21):
Oh me?

Speaker 3 (36:22):
That escalated quickly.

Speaker 2 (36:24):
Slide into the weekend with a great folks at King
Kawaan and make it a slighter Sunday.

Speaker 3 (36:30):
Slighter Sunday.

Speaker 2 (36:32):
Brad in Connecticut, Hi Brad, what's on your mind today?

Speaker 17 (36:37):
Hi?

Speaker 5 (36:37):
Dan?

Speaker 11 (36:37):
Dannett's six feet two thirty five.

Speaker 18 (36:43):
Dan.

Speaker 11 (36:43):
I love Hern's passion and stuff. But when he made
that comment about you, Uh, you played to win the game?
Was it because they were going for two points at
the end of the game, Because my question them would
have been to herm, couldn't you have won that game
in overtime? Yeah?

Speaker 2 (37:00):
That ruins the expression you play to win the game.
I mean, in the moment you're playing to win the game.
I like, the expression doesn't sound that good you play
for overtime. It just they're not gonna make T shirts
out of that. But thank you, Brad. Let me see
Richard in Tucson. Hi, Richard, what's on your mind today?

Speaker 14 (37:22):
Dan?

Speaker 5 (37:22):
Thanks for taking my call.

Speaker 19 (37:24):
Hey, I've been a Chiefs head back to Lombardi And
the question with all the all the coverage right now,
whose team is Green Bay's team? Is Mike is it
his team? Now? Is it Jordan Loves team? And Jordan
Love is you know the third quarterback? And how many
years for the Packers and so how many teams? Where

(37:44):
the is it not the quarterbacks team? How do you
see that? Well?

Speaker 2 (37:49):
Usually, if you're a good team, it's the quarterbacks team.
I think you could say the Chiefs are Patrick Mahomes
and Andy Reid, Chargers justin Herbert, Jim Harbaugh. Sometimes you
have a head coach who has a big enough personality.
I don't think people look at this as Matt Laflor's team.

(38:11):
I would say it's still well right now with the overreaction,
it's Michael Parsons team. But it better be the Jordan
Love team, you know, the totality of the season. I
want it to be Jordan Love's team. Who else would I?
Joe Burrow it's his team, Josh Allen it is certainly
his team. Lamar Jackson, even though there's a little Derrick

(38:33):
Henry in there. The Ravens want Adam Sandler to stop
by for the game this weekend because Sandler, I guess,
is doing a stand up act in Baltimore's that sound right, Tod.

Speaker 10 (38:46):
Yes, but he's unfortunately leaving town Saturday night, so they
won't be around for Sunday. But if they would, I'm
sure they would have loved to go check out the
game and hang out with Derek.

Speaker 2 (38:55):
Maybe a Saturday walkthrough that Sandman can see Derek Henry again.
He saw him at the premiere.

Speaker 18 (39:01):
Yeah, but that'd be fun to just check out The
Ravens camp bear all set.

Speaker 2 (39:05):
Up, Okay, yeah, but Sandman, the Ravens ask if we
could assist, and we said, you know, we would try.
But Sandman, you would think he just did this movie
and you're out promoting it, You're all over the world,
and then all of a sudden he's going back out
doing stand up and I think he's going to be
around here for a couple of dates. He wants to
know if we want to go, Yes, Marvin.

Speaker 7 (39:27):
Yeah, Monday, I think he's at the Garden.

Speaker 3 (39:29):
Yeah, he is playing the Garden. It's a school night though, and.

Speaker 7 (39:35):
I know you've been out late on the school night.

Speaker 2 (39:37):
I don't want to be. I don't want to be.
I mean, every day is super Bowl. You know you can't.
You can't cheat the audience. You guys like to, but
I can't. I got to be here. I got to
be prepared. I got to be energetic, even when I
think I'm on my deathbed.

Speaker 3 (39:52):
I got to be here as recently as yesterday.

Speaker 18 (39:55):
Yes, yeah, much respect?

Speaker 3 (39:58):
Thank you, Todd? What respects?

Speaker 5 (40:01):
Yes?

Speaker 3 (40:02):
Respects plural? Yes, Paul id just did the math.

Speaker 4 (40:05):
Derick Henry is on pace for three thousand yards this season.

Speaker 2 (40:08):
Okay, he's going to be in a movie two hours
in the books on this meet Friday. We only get
one more hour, and I say we do an extra hour.

Speaker 3 (40:18):
No, who's with me? No?

Speaker 5 (40:22):
Come you d.

Speaker 3 (40:23):
Okay, ok, screw you guys.

Speaker 2 (40:26):
We'll play final hour in this Friday after this
