(00:50):
Uh oh, better get Mako play the Daypole question stat
of the Day. All of that forthcoming watching the game
last night and watching what the Lions to the Ravens
made me wonder where did the Ravens defense go? Because
it used to be the Ravens had a great defense.
They always had a great defense and opportunistic defense. They

(01:13):
forced turnovers, they got sacks, and they led with their defense.
Now they're an offensive minded team, which is fine unless
the offense you're facing is better than your offense. And
the Lions offense last night was that. When you have
two drives over ninety five yards, you're sending a real

(01:34):
loud message to the other team.

Speaker 3 (01:36):
You can't stop us. You could only hope to contain us.

Speaker 2 (01:41):
David Montgomery and Jamier Gibbs each scored two rushing touchdowns.
They rushed for two hundred and twenty four yards. That's
the most of Ravens defense is allowed since twenty seventeen.

(02:03):
The Lions the first team to have two touchdown drives
of ninety five or more yards in the same game
since twenty twenty one. That's one of those that's old school.
That's not flashy, that's not tricky, that's just, hey, we're
gonna run. We're gonna run over there. Montgomery's gonna run

(02:25):
over there, Jami or Gibbs is gonna run there. That's
when you take a team's hardaway and then you couple
that with seven sacks, and then you have the punch
out of Derrick Henry and the Lions with a huge win,
and then the Ravens have to go to Kansas City
next weekend. One of those teams is gonna be one
in three. But the Lions everything, you know, as far

(02:49):
as all they're coordinators, they're not the same team. And
you know they got blown out when they played the Packers. Absolutely,
but what we've seen is Dan Campbell gives the presence
of this gruff guy, but he calls a good game
because I put this on Dan Campbell with his ability

(03:11):
to handle the offense, and you saw that last night.
Now they're still going to go forward on fourth down.
They'll have a couple of trick plays in there. But
this was just and Aiden Hutchinson is back in case
you didn't know, but you know you had the big
play and that was Derrick Henry's fumble and it sounded
like this.

Speaker 4 (03:29):
Jackson hands it to handle. Oh my bubbles out up
by the Lions. They've got it inside the twenty yard line.
DJ Reid with a football in his hands. The Lions
stripped it away from Derrick Henry. What a big turn
of events and the Lions have got.

Speaker 2 (03:45):
It now and it's the punch out, that's, you know.
And it started with Peanut Tillman with the Bears. I
think he's the godfather of the punch out. But here's
three fumbles with Derrick Henry and two of those fumbles
have cost them, dearly cost them the game. Here's Derrick
Henry on his fumbling issues.

Speaker 5 (04:06):
Crazier right now, three games straight I have in my
career string he pat fumbles, game cut at the moments. Yeah,
if I apologize, so I thought, Nation, and you know,
I'll just put you working.

Speaker 3 (04:20):
And it was hurt. Yeah, you just don't expect that.

Speaker 2 (04:25):
And I always go back to Tiki Barber when he
had his fumbling issues with the Giants and nearly cost
him his job. And then he learned how to hold
the ball differently and he was he ran almost like
Forrest Gump with his arms up really high. But he
wasn't fumbling anymore and has had a borderline Hall of
Fame career because of that. But with Derrick Henry and

(04:47):
the punch outs, and this is, if you can't tackle him,
then go for the ball. I certainly understand that I
wouldn't want to tackle him, but if you can go
for that punch out and plus these defensive players are
allowed to to hit the opposition like you can punch
somebody in the arm. I mean, there's nothing, there's no

(05:07):
rules against that. And if you go back to I
don't know if it was hard knocks, and Seaton probably
can give you a better information on it. I didn't
see it, but Seaton told me about it. When Aaron
Rodgers was mad at Max Crosby because Max Crosby on
every play was hitting Aaron Rodgers in his passing arm.

Speaker 6 (05:27):
Yeah, I think it was Aaron Rodgers. It was definitely
Max Crosby though, and whoever the quarterback was. If it
wasn't Aaron Rodgers, I apologize. But every time Max Crosby
even got near him, he punched him in his throwing arm,
right in the shoulder. He'd punch him, and the quarterback
he's like, dude, stop man, you know what you're doing.
He's like, Max Crosby's like what what, I don't know,
what do you mean?

Speaker 3 (05:46):
What do you mean?

Speaker 6 (05:46):
Every time he went by him, bang, just smashed him
right in the throwing shoulder, right in the arm.

Speaker 2 (05:51):
But you're allowed to do that if you're a defensive player.
I can wind up and say I'm going for the ball.
I can try to punch you, and we're case scenario,
I'm going to hit you in the arm.

Speaker 3 (06:02):
Yeah, PAULI.

Speaker 7 (06:02):
All three of Derrick Henry's fumbles this season are off
punch outs, and I went back and looked he never
has had more than five in a single season. So
maybe it's not Derrick Henry. It's the new play for
the defenders. I asked our stats people to look at this.
From twenty eighteen to twenty twenty three, there was an
average about one hundred and twenty fumbles per year by
NFL running backs. Last year jumped to one forty. This

(06:26):
year it's on pace for one sixty. So in the
past two years, fumbles for running backs are up quite
a bit.

Speaker 3 (06:31):
All right, Well, come up with the poll question.

Speaker 2 (06:34):
Got our play of the day coming up as well,
and phone numbers eight seven to seven three DP show.
See what are we going to go with first hour
of the program.

Speaker 6 (06:43):
Let's see, Well, we have a random one here that
maybe I'll save for a second. But who's in better
shape right now? The Ravens are the Chiefs.

Speaker 2 (06:56):
It feels like we've seen the best that the Ravens
are going to be from the standpoint of offense. You know,
you lose to Buffalo, no shame in that you lose
to the Lions. The way you lost to the Lions
would be really disconcerting because I don't Ray Lewis didn't
walking through the door, Terrell Suggs didn't walking through the door.

(07:16):
Ed Reid is not walking through the door. You got
to score a lot of points. Now you do have
the potential to do that because Lamar did have a
good passing night.

Speaker 3 (07:26):
It's almost as if and Troy Aikman said.

Speaker 2 (07:29):
This on the broadcast, He's like, hey, I wouldn't rush
Lamar Jackson. I would have as many defensive backs as
possible because I don't want him to run. I can
have him stay in the pocket. We can eventually get
to him. And that's what they did last night. They
had seven sacks on him. It seems I don't think
he's ever been sacked that many times, even close to that,

(07:51):
because you would think he would be able to get away,
but they kept him in the pocket. And then you
have the secondaries, like you know, we're going to bottle
up receivers and it worked, and I did have a
good passer raiding and threw for three touchdowns. But what
the Lions did was an interesting philosophy. But it still
goes back to the Ravens defense. The Chiefs have a

(08:13):
good defense. Now they don't have the offense that the
Ravens have, but I do think once they get a
couple of their wide receivers back, then we're going to
see if Kansas City is real and maybe Kansas City
still has Tyreek Hill in play, because I don't think
the Dolphins are going anywhere. Yes, dud, I think the Ravens.

Speaker 8 (08:32):
Are in better shape only from a division standpoint. With
Joe Burrow out, the Browns aren't anything. Evenothery snuck past
the Packers, but Denver and the Raiders and Chiefs grant
that they're all one and two, But just looking at
the AFC North and AFC West, I'd be more comfortable
as a raven fan in the long run this year.

Speaker 2 (08:46):
Yeah, that's a great point if you buy into is
Denver going to be like they were last year? The
Chargers they got injuries, Najie Harris out for the season,
so yeah, I certainly understand putting divisional play in there.
Nick Bosa's done for the year. Another injury for the

(09:07):
forty nine ers, Wow, an ACL tear and Najee Harris's
ACL with the Chargers.

Speaker 6 (09:14):
What other are achilles? What else do we have seton
Tier one of the NFC? Paul just sent this over
Tier one of the NFC. Is that the Eagles alone
or the Eagles and the Lions.

Speaker 2 (09:31):
Well, I would put the Packers in there too. I mean,
the Packers blew out the Lions so and granted they
I know they lost to Cleveland, but if we're going
recency biased, then I understand that. But Green Bay did
beat Detroit head up. I would put three teams in there.
I mean, I still think the Rams are in that

(09:51):
top five in the NFC. But I would say, and
I think the Eagles will look great. I mean they
needed her ro performance by Jalen Hurts and a block
field goal. I would say Lions, Packers, Rams, Eagles. That'd
be my top my top four.

Speaker 3 (10:12):
What else do you read books? I try? Yes often,
Yes you're there or no.

Speaker 9 (10:21):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (10:22):
Mike Florio came in yesterday and he's got a new book,
and he wanted to know because I have all these
books in here. I have a huge wall of books
and he goes, do you do you read books? And
I go no, I mean I tried to. I just
don't have the attention span I try. I look like
I read a lot of books, but I read a

(10:43):
lot of articles.

Speaker 3 (10:44):
I can.

Speaker 2 (10:45):
I can last through an article unless it's a really
long article, and then it takes me a couple of
days to get through that.

Speaker 3 (10:54):
I just I lose interest. The same thing with TV shows.

Speaker 2 (11:00):
You know there's a series on and you know, my
wife will say, man, you really like Severance. And then
I watched I think twelve minutes and I was done,
and she goes, how do you only give it twelve minutes?
I go, hun, you got to capture capture my attention
or I'm gone, yeah, Pauline, Well.

Speaker 7 (11:16):
What kind of articles? Those deep dive Vanity Fair articles
or like those US Weekly six paragraph articles.

Speaker 2 (11:23):
I probably could, you know, get through a Vanity Fair
article or GQ or Esquire, but you know US Weekly.
You know, if I'm at the physical therapist, I'm gonna
look at that when they say, mister Patrick Gore ready
for you. Hold on, I'm reading something here. Timothy Shallome
has got a new haircut. Hold on, I'll be there, yes, Ton.

Speaker 8 (11:45):
Is it completely attention span or did you ever get
intented by the size of a book? Like I can
deal with like an one hundred and fifty page book,
but could you sit down with some four or five
hundred page thing a novel. I'm like, I'm never going
to get through this. This will take a year.

Speaker 2 (11:56):
I can't do it. And then my wife is in
a book club, so she's reading a book a week
and then I'm like, okay, I said, and then she'll say, hey,
you know, you should read this book, and then she'll
give it to me, and then she realizes that I
didn't read the book, and I'd just say, I'm you know,
I'll read the cover and what you know people are

(12:18):
saying about it. But it's it's just even when we
have guests on and they have a book out, I'll
read reviews on it.

Speaker 3 (12:25):
But and sometimes I'll go through and get excerpts.

Speaker 2 (12:29):
Uh, you know, Seth Wickersham wrote an article about the
Quarterback and I actually read a lot, you know, I
just skipped chapters and I was just looking for whatever
I found interesting. But yeah, it's a shame because I
am not a good reader, never have been guess.

Speaker 7 (12:46):
Pauline follow up a question on do you read books?
Is listening to a book on tape reading a book?
I'm going to give you credit for it, credit or
full credit. I'll give you full credit. Yeah, I'll give
you full credit. I mean, somebody's reading the book to you.
But that's okay. I'm fine with that. Yes, Ton to me,
that's like.

Speaker 8 (13:05):
An audio movie or something. I don't know if that's
reading a book. I think, you know, flipping the pages,
or even if you're using technology and you're moving with
your finger across the board whatever. I just that sounds
like I don't know. I'm gonna say cheating. It's not
the book experience, in my opinions, being read to you.

Speaker 2 (13:21):
Well, it's either that or cliff notes version. And I
was king of the cliff Notes version. By the way,
it's cliffs Notes, yeah, note, Yeah, it's cliffs I don't know.
I mean, I don't know cliff but Cliff's Notes I remember.

Speaker 3 (13:38):
I would I'd read those.

Speaker 2 (13:39):
If you said I could do cliff Notes, or I
could have somebody read me a book. I'd rather somebody
read me a book instead of me just cheating off
somebody's paper.

Speaker 6 (13:49):
Yes, that's kind of like they're actually called Brussels sprouts. Yeah,
it's not Brussels sprouts. They're Brussels sprouts from Brussels. Yeah,
you haven't.

Speaker 8 (13:59):
Used monarch That was another thing. Clip notes were yellow,
but there was also a red book called Monarch Notes.
They both kind of did the same thing, and they
were like in competition with each other for some reason,
Monarch Notes and clip notes so you don't have to
read the book when you get the assignment.

Speaker 3 (14:10):
Todd, I wasn't a good student.

Speaker 6 (14:13):
I didn't care enough to actually do the cliffs notes
about I just like I'll just wing it.

Speaker 3 (14:19):
Yeah, I wasn't a good student.

Speaker 6 (14:20):
I waste my money on these.

Speaker 3 (14:22):
I'm a shamed to admit bad student.

Speaker 2 (14:25):
Whenever I would tell my kids about grades and you know, studying,
and they go, well you didn't, I said, yeah, I know,
but and you're successful.

Speaker 3 (14:32):
Yeah I know, but still and then I'm like, yeah,
you know, talk to your mom.

Speaker 6 (14:37):
Yes, that's the worst part of Like you're talking to
your kid about like, hey man, you really got to
study and do it, Like trust me, all right, you
really want Why why do I have to trust you?

Speaker 2 (14:45):
Well?

Speaker 6 (14:45):
Because you want your life to work out, you're great.
You want to do like whatever, You're not happy with
the way your life worked out. Yeah, no I am.
I'm just saying, so what you think it could be better?

Speaker 10 (14:53):
Dude?

Speaker 6 (14:54):
Don't do this to me, all right, I'm just telling
you. You got to study, all right, don't twist my words.

Speaker 3 (14:59):
N kids, Yes, Paul.

Speaker 7 (15:01):
Lastly, just on this theme, it's cliffs notes, Brussels sprouts?
Is it Ruth's Chris Steakhouse?

Speaker 3 (15:07):
Ruth Ruth Chris?

Speaker 7 (15:09):
Is there an apostrophe? Yeah, that's that's hard to say.
I know what's the genesis of that?

Speaker 3 (15:14):
I think it's Chris is maybe her son. I don't know.

Speaker 2 (15:19):
Ruth took it over from Chris. You know what, let
me take a break here. I mean, we're getting into
a real you know, heavy top.

Speaker 3 (15:30):
Just lose the ego? Do you have to put Ruth
on it? Just it's Chris's steakhouse, so you're the owner,
But why do you have to get Ruth in there?
I could be just making that up. I might be
making that, like, man, this steakhouse is so Chris. You
know it's it's Ruth. Is that right, Ruth's Steakhouse? Yes,
it's not it's Ruth Chris.

Speaker 2 (15:52):
Let me take a break. Welcome to the program. Uh,
just getting started on this Tuesday. We're back after this
Dan Patrick Show.

Speaker 1 (16:00):
Be sure to catch the live edition of The Dan
Patrick Show weekdays at nine am Eastern six am Pacific
on Fox Sports Radio and the iHeartRadio app.

Speaker 11 (16:10):
Hey, we're Covino and Rich Fox Sports Radio every day
five to seven pm Eastern.

Speaker 3 (16:15):
But here's the thing.

Speaker 11 (16:16):
We never have enough time to get to everything we
want to get.

Speaker 12 (16:18):
To, and that's why we have a brand new podcast
called Over Promised. You see, we're having so much fun
in our two hour show. We never get to everything, honestly,
because this guy is over promising things we never have
time for.

Speaker 1 (16:31):
Yeah, you blubber list name and me.

Speaker 11 (16:33):
Well, you know what it's called over promise. You should
be good at it because you've been over promising women
for years.

Speaker 12 (16:37):
Well, it's a Cavino and Rich after show, and we
want you to be a part of it. We're gonna
be talking sports, of course, but we're also gonna talk
life and relationships. And if Rich and I are arguing
about something or we didn't have enough time, it will
continue on our after show called over promised.

Speaker 11 (16:51):
Well, if you don't get enough Covino and Rich, make
sure you check out over promised and also uncensored, by
the way, so maybe we'll go at it even a
little harder. It's gonna be the best after show podcast
of all time.

Speaker 12 (17:01):
There you go, over promising. Remember you could see it
on YouTube, but definitely join us. Listen over promised with
Cadino and Rich on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts or
wherever you get your podcasts.

Speaker 2 (17:13):
Settle on her poll question, we stumbled upon Ruth's Chris
Steakhouse for some reason, and oh, I think it's Cliff's
Notes instead of Cliff Notes.

Speaker 3 (17:24):
And then Brussels sprouts.

Speaker 2 (17:28):
So I guess the woman Ruth bought a steakhouse that
was called Chris's Steakhouse, and so she just kept the
Chris Steakhouse, but it was Ruth's Chris Steakhouse. Is that
how the story goes?

Speaker 7 (17:44):
Yeah, when she was a steakhouse has popular in New
Orleans back in like nineteen twenties and thirties and forties.
She bought it in sixty five, a woman named Ruth Fertile.
Her advisor said keep the name in some fashion because
they already had branding, so when she expanded, it became
Ruth's Chris Steakhouse. She actually old Fortune magazine. She hated
the name, but she was talked into it.

Speaker 3 (18:05):
Were there more Chris Steakhouses.

Speaker 7 (18:09):
They wanted to keep him from redoing another steakhouse with
the name Chris Steakhouse, like control the branding. I guess,
oh okay, but they got pretty big in the seventies,
eighties and nineties.

Speaker 2 (18:19):
Yeah, yeah, I've been there before. They're still around Ruth's
Chris Steakhouse.

Speaker 3 (18:28):
It's a little tough if you have a list of
some well, I've been there. Yeah. That's why I never
go there.

Speaker 8 (18:34):
I'll just get a Swans and Hungry Man dinner and.

Speaker 6 (18:36):
Call it a night.

Speaker 3 (18:38):
See, you'd rather not go there because you don't want to.

Speaker 8 (18:41):
I'd love the fancy dinner, but I can't say the name.
If I can't say the name, I'm not going to
dine with Chris Common table for two please.

Speaker 2 (18:50):
Lamar Jackson sacked seven times, matching a career high. He
was sacked seven times by the Steelers back in twenty
twenty one.

Speaker 3 (18:59):
Instead of Good Day Day, Sat of the Day that
bust out of the Day, stat of the day. Here
comes that what oat of the day? Thank you?

Speaker 2 (19:11):
Ron Burgundy. Keith and Chico leads us off. Good morning, Keith,
welcome back.

Speaker 13 (19:17):
Hey guys, good morning. I'm just here to give the
Lions their credit for last night. Starting with the defense.
They get seven sacks on Lamar. Obviously, that ties his
single game record, which he just pointed out, So very impressive.

Speaker 9 (19:29):
There.

Speaker 13 (19:30):
Aiden Hutchinson makes his return, he gets a sack and
forces a fumble in the second half. They really needed
him back and you can see how it helped everyone
else on the defense. Offensive line for Detroit played great too,
over two hundred yards on the ground, four rushing touchdowns,
all while Golf gets sacked zero times.

Speaker 3 (19:48):
Good job to the old line.

Speaker 13 (19:50):
Lamar getting his kneecaps bitten off with the Lions getting
constant pressure on him, he seemed to be a little
indecisive in the pocket as the game went on. I
thought he could have avoided some sacks he chose to
run sooner in his progressions. Also, Derrick Henry losing that
fumble costing his team a late game possession. Again, He's
got to call Tiki Barber and get that thing high

(20:10):
and tight. Thanks guys, have.

Speaker 3 (20:11):
A great day. Thank you Keith. Do we think Keith
was reading that? Yes, okay, I think he may have
been reading that all right, it was.

Speaker 6 (20:19):
I appreciate him trying to stay on topic and be precise.

Speaker 3 (20:23):
He was organized and well prepared. He was like an
analyst there.

Speaker 2 (20:28):
He kept it high and tight. Let's see James in Virginia. Hi, James,
good morning, brother.

Speaker 14 (20:36):
Happy to have made DP Bennett look at commanders. Man. Wow,
if there's one thing I think the Baltimore Ravens are missing,
there is another elite receiver. Andrews is great. We can't
continue to lead the team in receptions ten yards five
catches from the top wide receiver. Bateman may need someone

(20:58):
that could take it over the top. I don't know
what's gonna happen in Miami, man, but I think Tyreek
Hill can really help that offense. As far as the
thundleaves go. That last one came from behind. He didn't
really see it. Does have to hold it tighter, but
he's one of the best in the game. I truck
Barrett Henry all the way. I think the ratings gonna
make the playoffs without a doubt. Man, I don't see
any reason why not. But if they can add a

(21:19):
playmaking receiver to go along with day Fowers and Bateman,
game changer man. Y'all have a great day, gentlemen. I
definitely wasn't reading it, so Commanders.

Speaker 3 (21:28):
All right, James, thank you. We get people breaking this
game down here. I like it.

Speaker 2 (21:34):
I think the Steelers have backed off interest in Tyreek Hill,
at least from what I've read, but that doesn't mean
it won't heat up again, because I think it will
if Dolphins lose a couple more then all of a sudden,
you got to really that's where you have to be
honest with your team, and be honest as early as
you can, so you start preparing for next season. You

(21:57):
know who's going to be here, who's not. Is there
any thing we can do to better ourselves for next year?
And you don't want to say that, You don't want
to say it after three games or four games, but
sometimes reality sets in and you can't avoid it. Richard
in Indianapolis, Hi, Richard, what's on your mind?

Speaker 15 (22:17):
Adp sticks one about a Port Kennoan sandwich away from
three bills? Hey, Dan, I just wanted to ask really
quickly what your thoughts on the willingness of pundits to
move the goalposts for some teams. For example, you know,
Indiana beats up on Illinois, and well, Illinois is probably

(22:38):
just a bad team, and Syracuse goes down to Clemson
and Clemson's got a real problem. Well, Syracuse might have
a really good team. And Notre Dame beats Purdue, lets
them score thirty at home, and somehow they're on their
way to the college football playoff and this is their redemption.
And I just wonder how we can just shift these
narratives because of the name on the front of the earth.

Speaker 2 (22:58):
Well, I think this is my observation is you will
have a lot of analysts, a lot of opinions, and
not very many people are watching games. They're watching highlights,
and there's a lot of college football to watch. And
I watched Indiana, but I was given a heads up

(23:19):
that this is a really fun, explosive offense. And that
was a week ago, and so I'm watching this game
with Illinois, and Illinois likes to run the football. But
that's I mean. I'm a Heisman voter and I do
watch a lot of football, and I watch a lot
of random football as well, but I think you get
people who have opinions and they're based in tradition. Maybe

(23:41):
Syracuse does have a really good team. I mean they
struggle to beat Yukon, but you win against Clemson. That's
saying something. Oklahoma State's not good. Are they that bad
that Oregon blows them out by sixty? Maybe I don't
know how good USC is. I've watched, but I don't

(24:03):
know how good they are. They got Illinois coming up.
I mean, we're gonna find out if Illinois should have
been in the top twenty five to begin with.

Speaker 6 (24:10):
Yeah, it's kind of like it reminds me of why
would we give the Chiefs the benefit of the doubt
but not the Ravens, Because the Chiefs have been there,
They've done it. They've shown that they're an absolute powerhouse
who know how to sort of get over the top
of that hill where that's the Ravens. Haven't it certainly
haven't went in a while.

Speaker 3 (24:29):
Proof of concept.

Speaker 6 (24:30):
Yeah, Yeah, So you know, a team that sort of
bubbles up like Syracuse all of a sudden, they don't
get the same benefit of the doubt as a Clemson.

Speaker 2 (24:38):
But Indiana should get the benefit of the doubt because
last year they were in the playoffs, and I remember
somebody saying to me, who's this year's Indiana, And then
I said, after the Illinois game, Indiana is this year's Indiana?

Speaker 6 (24:51):
Yes, he is one year good enough to get you
over that get you that benefit of the doubt.

Speaker 3 (24:57):
I don't know that it.

Speaker 2 (24:57):
Is recency bias, yes, because Indiana was good last year.
If a team is good last year, then I'm going
to give you the benefit of the doubt because I'm
assuming that you still have your coaching core and maybe
your star players. It's when you lose your quarterback or
wide you know, those kind of your star players, then
I'm not going to give it to you a name alone.

(25:18):
Now Notre Dame. Notre Dame I expect to run the table.
Defense is the issue, and that's where I'm wondering if
they head coach all of a sudden takes over the defense.
But they do have some offensive, you know, really explosive players,
some fun players. They just I mean, they lost two
tough games. Miami's the number two team in the country

(25:42):
Texas A and m is the top ten team. I
have to be fair to that that Notre Dame lost
two tough games. Shouldn't have lost the A and M game.
Miami was the better team. Yeah, Poult, I.

Speaker 7 (25:52):
Think it takes, like with Seaton was saying, sometimes years
to get that stigma. They're not really a serious college
football school. You go back generation to Boise State, they
had to win eleven games a couple times, and then
we put them in the Big Dance and Indiana they
had Michael Pennix a few years ago. They've they've been
relevant now for five or six years, up and down,
but it takes a while to shake off that. Wow,

(26:13):
that's a cute story, but they're not a big boy yet.

Speaker 2 (26:16):
And I think Boise State. Does Boise State have the
second most wins since two thousand in college football?

Speaker 3 (26:26):
I don't know.

Speaker 2 (26:27):
Once again random stat but for some reason I thought
they had the second most wins since two thousand.

Speaker 3 (26:33):
Yes, Paul, Yeah, that would probably be right.

Speaker 7 (26:34):
I would have to check it. But looking at that,
they average about eleven wins a year for the past
twenty years, I'll bet Gonzaga is the number one for
college basketball.

Speaker 3 (26:44):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (26:45):
Yeah, but we do tend to look at the cute still,
like Gonzaga is a powerhouse, but we tend to look
at them, and they go, Man, look at that mid major,
look at that little team. There got some guys who
can play a little bit there. I mean, chet Holmgren
went there for a year. They've had guys go to
the NBA, Yeah, Marvin.

Speaker 16 (27:05):
But they needed to do it on a consistent basis
for about ten years until we took them seriously and
they could get guys like a chet Holmegrin to comic Gonzaga.

Speaker 2 (27:13):
Uh see what else do we have here? Mikey and Syracuse.
I Mike you, what's on your mind?

Speaker 17 (27:20):
My good buddy, Dan Patrick?

Speaker 18 (27:21):
How are you?

Speaker 17 (27:22):
My friend?

Speaker 3 (27:22):
Good Mike, third.

Speaker 17 (27:26):
Time caller, longtime listener, officially weighing in five nine one
seventy five. Thank you, Thank you. Michael Jordan's the go
of basketball. Came out of retirement, Tom Brady to go
to football, Kya came out of retirement, Dan Patrick coming
out of retirement. Let's say the Mothership.

Speaker 3 (27:50):
Oh another big Nope, Nope, nope, nope.

Speaker 2 (27:53):
I haven't retired yet to come back. But no, I've
had opportunities. I've had opportunities with other places, but I
don't want to do TV on a full time basis.

Speaker 3 (28:06):
I just want to do this show.

Speaker 2 (28:08):
But I've had opportunities game shows, hosting things, and this
is what I want to do. But I still have
two and a half years left before I announced my comeback.
Oh Todd's really interested now.

Speaker 8 (28:25):
No, I wanted to just add, you can never say
never about anything in life. You can't say one hundred
percent never when you wrap things up in February twenty
twenty eight or whatever. If there's some special opportunity, may
not be full time, maybe it's some kind of cool
part time thing. Well I can do that once a month.
I can do that.

Speaker 2 (28:39):
Well, that's not really a comeback because I'm still going
to be doing things. I'm just not going to do
something Monday through Friday.

Speaker 8 (28:45):
But most people think retirement is I'm sitting on a
hammock with chips in a mountain dew and I'm going
to go travel the world that I'm not working at all.

Speaker 3 (28:51):
But that's what you do.

Speaker 8 (28:52):
Now, that's what I consider retirement. Retiring and dabbling and stuff.
I guess you know that's like hobbies like learning how
to put a guitar or something.

Speaker 3 (28:59):
I can't. Could you image imagine me doing that?

Speaker 8 (29:01):
Definitely not?

Speaker 3 (29:02):
No, I can't.

Speaker 2 (29:03):
Yeah, I'll be doing something. I'm just like, you know,
the the daily routine. I'm going to give that up.
I've been selfish for a long time when you think
about it, it's been about my career with my family,
and you know, I promised my wife and be like,
one of these days I'll be around.

Speaker 7 (29:25):
But you'll be home for like three weeks and she'd
be like, uh, you working anytime soon?

Speaker 3 (29:29):
Yeah, that's true. Yeah, be careful what you ask.

Speaker 8 (29:32):
Yes, Tom, I think you're too hard on yourself because
employers can be selfish too and give you guilt chips.
Can you do this shift? Can you do that shift?
But it's my kid's birthday? Yeah, we really need you.
Someone called and stick and right. There was a period
of time where you felt like you had to say
yes to everything. I did always be available and miss
family thing I did.

Speaker 2 (29:46):
I did absolutely. I missed a lot of different things.
I was being selfish.

Speaker 7 (29:52):
Yes, Paulin, I have an idea for your post retirement job.
Would you like it now or later? Off the air
like later to and a half years or today. I
could save for two and a half years, or I
could do it all.

Speaker 3 (30:04):
No, you could do it right now. Okay, okay.

Speaker 7 (30:06):
I look at what you do and have done very
similar to what David Letterman did and over his career
a lot of work, multiple days a week. It's a
grind of a daily show. I could see you very
much doing what David Letterman did and doing a focused
interview show with athletes and others after your career here
is done. I think that would keep your appetite for

(30:27):
asking questions and doing interviews, interviewing older people, newer people.
And if you do like fifteen episodes a year, I
think that'd be a really good role. It's been done,
it's been done, but it's been done. But Bob Costas
did it thirteen fourteen years ago. There's a whole new

(30:48):
generation of athletes to sit with.

Speaker 2 (30:50):
I don't think people find people that interesting anymore from
the standpoint of watching them do an interview with somebody.

Speaker 7 (30:57):
I think there's a whole in the industry to have
a show.

Speaker 2 (31:00):
But everybody has a podcast, like everybody has their own
their opinions out there. It just feels like celebrities are
so much more readily available that I don't know if
you can do something that's unique, something different.

Speaker 7 (31:14):
But if you remember and I'm dating myself here. When
Larry king Lai was a nightly show, you look forward
to seeing who he's going to have, who's going to
do a deep dive on, And there's not a lot
of deep dives anymore.

Speaker 2 (31:24):
Yeah, but there's so many shows and podcasts now. I
just don't know if there's any you know, who's interesting
who hasn't been interviewed or doesn't allow people to interview them.

Speaker 3 (31:36):
Yeah.

Speaker 6 (31:37):
Yeah, I think, respectfully, I think you're looking at this
completely wrong in that you're known as one of the
best interviewers in the business. So the point is you're
interviewing them, not necessarily who you're interviewing exactly. So that's
why I like, that's why to me, uh, interviews on
this show has always been so important because you're the

(31:58):
best interviewer in the business. So we need to people
that's it's our greatest strength on this shows you as
an interviewer, that's what people would be tuning into. It's
almost like when somebody has someone on a show, you're like, oh,
this person must be interesting because they're having them on.
Not this person makes that show interesting.

Speaker 3 (32:16):
All right. I appreciate the compliment.

Speaker 8 (32:21):
Yes, I was very drawn, but also Dating Myself Sportsbook,
which became up close with Roy Firestone. That was a
show where they didn't just do ex's and ose, they
really dove into the person, the human being that made
them tick. And that's like a perfect kind of thing
for you, where you love to talk about things that
have nothing to do with you know, what did you
do there? I'm third and eight. It's like, you know,
what makes this person tick as a human being. That's
the fascinating stuff.

Speaker 3 (32:43):
Thank you though. Okay, yeah, well.

Speaker 2 (32:47):
I got two and a half years figure that out.
Maybe I just go full time actor. Oh yeah, maybe
just full time l a h.

Speaker 3 (32:54):
No, I'm do that now. And I might do some
theater summer stock.

Speaker 2 (33:00):
I'm gonna do awful Broadway. You know it's not off,
it's awful Broadway.

Speaker 3 (33:05):
Yeah like it. Maybe I'll do that.

Speaker 18 (33:07):
I don't know.

Speaker 2 (33:09):
Let's take a break here. Okay, we covered a lot there,
Yeah we did, we did.

Speaker 16 (33:16):
Marvin, You're a great interviewer. Everyone's complimenting you, so I
should have jumped into arguably the.

Speaker 3 (33:22):
Best you are.

Speaker 2 (33:23):
You're kind of tough on compliments there, you know, you
just don't give them out.

Speaker 6 (33:27):
And he just basically stole my compliment and regurgitate. True, yeah, hijacked,
kind of stealing my material.

Speaker 16 (33:36):
Really sorry, guys.

Speaker 2 (33:37):
Yeah, okay, how about we take a break here and
when we come back, phone calls and the play of.

the fifteen down of the teet down of the pot
to the end though touchdown. Detroit Lions demo to the

(34:46):
this random stat I thought Boise State had the second
most wins since two thousand in college football. Turns out
they are third on the list. So it's Ohio State, Oklahoma,
and then it's Boise State and Alabama had the same
number of wins. Georgia and Clemson.

Speaker 1 (35:07):
Who stell of a day?

Speaker 12 (35:10):
Stella day stall of to day, scat of a day.
This is the stele of the day.

Speaker 3 (35:22):
David in Ohio, Hi, David, what's on your mind?

Speaker 1 (35:28):
Hey?

Speaker 18 (35:28):
Dan, I've got a theorist. Why Travis Kelcey and Andy Reid.
They've had some recent beef. Maybe Travis and Taylor aren't
inviting them to the wedding there.

Speaker 2 (35:39):
So okay, all right, well thank you, David. I would
say Andy's gonna get invited. I think that's their relationship
because Andy Reid is the one who initiated contact with
Travis Kelcey this time. I think the last time it
was Travis who maybe initiated some contact there.

Speaker 7 (35:58):
Yes, pain yeah, the more you that doesn't seem like
a big deal because it seems like something that's somewhat
commonplace with those two guys, and they could both get
away with it. If this were like a new coach
with a young quarterback, that would be an issue.

Speaker 3 (36:11):
David in Florida, Hi David, what's on your mind?

Speaker 9 (36:16):
Hello, there's a day Interpid Springs, Florida. First, not a
long time listener since day one, first time caller six
four three twenty eight.

Speaker 14 (36:30):
Second.

Speaker 9 (36:32):
Detroit Lions. I think are going to be a super
Bowl contender this year. I was going to say the
super Bowl representative, but I would bely my loyalty to
the Sampa Bay Buccaneers the way. I think are going
to play Detroit for the chance to go to the
super Bowl. But I think after last night, I think

(36:56):
there's anybody close to them. I think Green Bay as close,
but I think I think Detroit's the answer.

Speaker 2 (37:05):
Well, you know, we do this with recency bias. Now
I have the Lions winning the super Bowl, but after
I what Green Bay did to them. You know, it
makes you pause for a moment because you lose your
coordinators and then all of a sudden you're going, okay, uh,
not easy to replace those two coordinators, and Jared Goff

(37:27):
is going to be affected by this. They still have
a lot of talent on that team, skilled position. We've
seen this before, We've seen it the last couple of years.
I expect them to be a really good regular season team.
I want to see what you do in the postseason.
It's the same thing with Lamar and the Ravens. You
can talk about Lamar. Steve Young said yesterday he thinks

(37:47):
Lamar could turn out to be the greatest player ever
played the game.

Speaker 3 (37:52):
You got to have rings, you could have m vps.

Speaker 2 (37:55):
But you know what MVPs bring the question of why
didn't you win super Bowls? Why didn't you win more
super Bowls? Aaron Rodgers won one, Peyton Manning won one
and a half. They won all those MVPs, you know,
for Tom Brady won about an MVP. There's regular season

(38:17):
stats and then there's postseason stats. And I hope Lamar
figures it out. I hope he gets that opportunity to
play in a super Bowl. And the same with Josh Allen.
I would hate for you to have a career where
you're that decorated, you're that highly thought of, and then
you're going to be asked the inevitable question, why didn't

(38:40):
you get win a Super Bowl? Why didn't you get
to a Super Bowl? It's not all on the quarterback,
but then sometimes it is. And maybe I should have
put Tampa in there with these other teams when you
look at the best teams in the NFC, Tampa's a
good team, maybe a really good team, playing a bad

(39:00):
and you got to factor that in. You know, some
of these teams going through the regular season, whether it's
in their own division or you know, when they're playing
Kansas City or you're playing Buffalo, you're playing Baltimore, you
know that this takes a toll on you, and you
might end up with eleven wins. You might be more
battle tested than a team that's going through a bad division.

(39:21):
I mean, somebody's going to win the AFC South, right,
I don't know how good they are, but somebody's going
to win that. I don't think the NFC South is
that good. Tampa Bay could put up twelve wins, thirteen
wins now all of a sudden they got home field advantage.
I don't know if they're better than Detroit, but they
might be in a better situation than Detroit. And that's

(39:41):
really what this is all about. Stay healthy, win the
games you're supposed to win. Shane in Massachusetts, Hi Shane.

Speaker 10 (39:51):
Hey Dan.

Speaker 3 (39:53):
Five eight one eight.

Speaker 10 (39:56):
I'm sitting here with my newborn daughter. I've been a
huge fan for about like six years now. I had
a huge question, you know, with all these different wins
over the weekend. I'm still a huge Eagle favorite. But
if you had to take a if you were a
betting man, who would you be your favorites of the

(40:19):
NFC and AFC.

Speaker 2 (40:20):
Well, I'm not going to change, and congratulations on the baby.
I mean I just sort of did that where I
still believe in Kansas City proof of concept and I
believe in the Lions as well. But when I was
making my Super Bowl pick, I really like the Rams.
I like them a lot, front office, coaching staff, quarterback, skill, position, defense,

(40:44):
I really like them. But you got to get over
the Eagles. Hump the Eagles. It'd be hard to go
against them. I don't think they've played great. The Lions,
you know they're in there. Tampa Bay. A lot of
people like Tampa Bay.

Speaker 16 (41:00):
Yes, Marvin, if the Chiefs go to the Super Bowl again,
Patrick Mahomes is going to be in the Michael Jordan
category because you're going to say Josh Allen and Lamar
Jackson didn't go as far as they needed to because
of Patrick Mahomes. That's what's gonna end up happening.

Speaker 2 (41:13):
Well, Mahomes would be maybe in the Lebron category because
Mike didn't lose championships. Lebron has lost championships. Mahomes has
lost the Super Bowl a couple of times.

Speaker 10 (41:24):
Oh.

Speaker 16 (41:24):
I was just saying, as far as other great players
not getting to the championship.

Speaker 2 (41:29):
Yeah, okay, but I think he might be more Lebron
and like he'd have to if he went and lost
another one.

Speaker 3 (41:36):
Then all of a sudden, you know, we start to
look at him maybe.

Speaker 2 (41:40):
Lebron like right, because Michael never lost Mike, of course,
he didn't never missed a shot either.

Speaker 16 (41:45):
I didn't see any misses.

Speaker 3 (41:46):
Who has it better than we do.

Speaker 1 (41:49):
Nobody.

Speaker 3 (41:51):
Well, Jim Harball might. He'll join us in ten minutes
