Speaker 1 (00:00):
You are listening to the Dan Patrick Show on Fox
Sports Radio Final Hour on this Monday.
Speaker 2 (00:06):
Yes, the T shirt that we discovered on Friday, the
passhole t shirt is up on the Danpatrick dot com
website and you can purchase that and we could all
flip off Todd since he won't move from the passing lane.
There it is. If you're watching on Peacock, we have
the t shirt. Lovely, it's available. Oh, very exciting. Are
(00:33):
you gonna wear one of those?
Speaker 3 (00:34):
Time?
Speaker 4 (00:34):
You know what I think I would? I think you
should not to like parent teacher confidence.
Speaker 2 (00:38):
Now nobody know. You got to pick a spot. All righty,
we'll talk to some college football. Rick new Heize on
loan from CBS Sports will stop on a little bit
more of your phone calls. Good morning. If you're watching
on Peacock or our radio affiliates around the country. AFC
East matchup, it'll be Josh Allen the Bills at home
against Drake May and the Patriots in primetime on NBC
(01:01):
and Peacock. I saw where the Vikings. Vikings were in
Ireland to play the Steelers. Now they'll be in London
to face the Browns. They wanted this, they wanted back
to back games in Europe because their market research International
Market Research estimated that forty percent of the crowd at
Dublin's Croke Park and up to sixty percent at London's
(01:25):
Tottenham Hotspur Stadium will be Vikings fans. This is about,
you know, brand expansion. It's it's about looking at this
globally and not locally. And they said, we'll do back
to back games over there and play to our fan base.
I don't know how you feel if you're a Viking
(01:45):
fan back in Minnesota, but they are trying to grow
their fan base all of these teams. Now you've seen
what I've told you was going to happen. The commissioner
came out and said, they're going to have, you know,
an entire schedule of international games for everybody. Everybody's going
to play an international game. They're going to sell this
(02:06):
to the TV networks. They're going to sell this separately.
And that's where you know, Amazon, somebody is, you know Netflix,
Somebody's going to go, hey, we'll take all of those
international games. Let's expand our brand internationally. Eight seven to
seven three DP show email address DP at Danpatrick dot com,
Twitter handle a TP show operators sitting by Tyler, He'll
(02:27):
take your phone calls. Best and worst of the weekend.
I mentioned this to start the show. You have the
Bengals tonight against the Broncos. They're seven and a half
point underdogs. You're looking at the division now, the AFC North.
The Ravens aren't what we thought they were going to be,
certainly not defensively. The Steelers are going to be a
(02:50):
ten win team, you would think. Then you start to
look Cleveland Browns aren't very good. And if you're the Bengals,
you don't have your quarterback, but you have everybody else.
You spent on your star defensive player and your two
star wide receivers. Can you upgrade? Should you upgrade? You
(03:10):
can upgrade? Should you upgrade? It feels like you're you're
gonna lose a season here, and it feels like you
you know, Kirk Cousin's gonna cost you more. But I
would still take a run at Russell Wilson. Yeah, seton.
Speaker 5 (03:28):
But if you upgrade and that person does well and
gets you to the playoffs and Joe Burrow.
Speaker 2 (03:34):
Is available, oh no, no, you're there until Joe's available. Right, However,
it's the guy that got you there. I would say
to Russ or Kirk Cousins, do you want an opportunity
to play football? Because if not, you can stay in
Atlanta and stay in in New York. But if they
(03:56):
come in, you're going to play until Joe gets help.
But you might be playing twelve thirteen games and getting
a chance to then do a reboot on your career,
a reset on your career, and maybe you're going to
be playing in the playoffs. Would I rather have that
scenario where I'm going to play or I'm going to
be a backup with the you know, the Giants or
(04:18):
the Falcons. But if I'm the Bengals, I would certainly
make a run at them. Yeah, pulling, and this has
happened before. It's a little apples and oranges. Remember that
Bronco Super Bowl team Peyton Manning gets hurt, Oswiler goes
five and two, and the big debate was, you know,
who do you stick with? Where do you go?
Speaker 6 (04:34):
It's a good problem to have just anyone who can
get you a playoff spot.
Speaker 2 (04:38):
Yeah, but you know it starts to get late early
with some of these teams, Like I don't know, after
four weeks after five weeks and they're not expected to
beat the Broncos. But then there are other games where
you know, might be a little tighter, you might be
an underdog where you normally wouldn't be. And that's where
(05:00):
if you bring in and I'm not saying Russ is
you know, let Russ cook, but still he's an upgrade
over Jake Brown with those receivers, I mean, Kirk Cousins.
Speaker 7 (05:11):
I would go.
Speaker 2 (05:12):
All in on Kirk Cousins. But you know, with the
Falcons pay part of the salary, do we have to
give up the draft pick? You know, so you have
to start to look at this and go, okay's let's
do the math. Yeah, Pauline.
Speaker 6 (05:24):
And if you look at the Bengals schedule, they play
the Steelers twice in the next seven weeks, and then
they finish the season the Bengals with Ravens, Dolphins, Cardinals, Browns.
That's three winnable games at the end you can steal
a playoff spot.
Speaker 2 (05:38):
And then the other portion of this you have the Jets.
There are two and a half point underdogs in Miami tonight,
and I like Mike McDaniel, but I don't know if
you survive if you lose and and the Jets are
only two and a half point underdogs here, and there
are going to be a lot of Jets fans there
in South Florida, and the Jets look pretty good last week,
(06:00):
and maybe Aaron Glenn's got something going on there. But
you got one team that maybe is starting to believe
that they could actually be good, with another team supposed
to be thinking that they're good and maybe starting to
have doubts, but that that could be a mess, certainly
with the Dolphins. But those are the two games coming
up tonight. Matt in Nashville leads us off final hour.
(06:22):
Hi Matt.
Speaker 8 (06:25):
DP again at the morning. Appreciate the time, fourth time,
long time, six foot and a dad by a perfect one. Hey,
I'm a long suffering University of Virginia football fan, so
I've gotten no worse this weekend too. Best the game
itself awesome, atmosphere was incredible ESPN, the coverage is great.
(06:45):
Louis Riddick was awesome, and the game was very very
well played on both sides. So it was cool to see.
Random stat of the day. Florida State do not schedule
Virginia and Charlottesville in the years that end in five
nineteen ninety, I've be I think number one ranked FSU
five be the top ten ranked team. Obviously this week
(07:08):
Friday top ten team, and then two to fifteen didn't
schedule other watch perp would have beaten them then to
second bath, and I would say I was thinking about
PAULI the entire time. I don't know if y'all watch
the game, but every time there was a review or
replay of a you know, a controversial call, they actually
listened in on the conversation between the rets and the
(07:29):
ACC home office to a determined to call. I thought
that was incredible, very very well done. Kudos ESPN and
ACC for making that happen. I said, I'm hide and hide.
Then we are ranked now for the first time in
twenty nineteen. There we go with the college playoffs.
Speaker 2 (07:44):
Baby, all right, thank you, Matt. Keep keep dreaming. I
love that they're gonna let us in. And I've been
saying this for years. Give us transparency when you're doing replay,
let us know what they're discussing. And I applaud the
ACC to you know, be the first to jump into that.
(08:04):
But I've said before, we why can't we eat eavesdrop,
I could be great.
Speaker 7 (08:11):
You.
Speaker 2 (08:11):
The more we stay attached to our TV, the better
it is for everybody.
Speaker 4 (08:17):
Yes, Tod, what are they afraid we'll get over here? Well,
we gave them the last call we got. We gotta
make this one up. Just give them just say it
was that about?
Speaker 2 (08:23):
Hey Barney? Uh did you see that one? I had
no idea. I didn't see it. How about you, Jimmy?
Uh yeah, I think I kind of did. I don't know.
What do you guys think? Uh? We say overturn it?
Speaker 4 (08:38):
Uh?
Speaker 2 (08:39):
Jay and Georgia, Hi ja? Best and worst of the weekend?
Speaker 7 (08:42):
Hey Dan?
Speaker 2 (08:43):
How are you great? Jay?
Speaker 9 (08:46):
Hey? I get a couple of best and the worst
and a birthday wish if I can. First off, the worst,
my wife and I were at the game. We're Alabama.
Took care at Georgia and made George and Cover Spartan
made Kaitlin the board look like a second coming to
Nick Saban, it was terrible.
Speaker 10 (09:05):
Uh.
Speaker 9 (09:06):
The best was Landiana Hoosiers making it ugly. But they're
they're undefeated again, so that's good.
Speaker 2 (09:13):
Yeah, you know, Mendoz is a good story. He's him
and Diego Pavilla. Those are two really good stories there,
but yeah, Kirby Smart does not do well against Alabama.
One in seven with Kirby Smart against Alabama.
Speaker 6 (09:31):
I didn't realize it was that bad.
Speaker 2 (09:32):
Oh yeah, and Georgia had a thirty three game home
winning streak. Who do we want to hear from Marv?
Do we have Kirby Smart? Okay, here's Kirby talking about
the loss.
Speaker 11 (09:46):
I mean, what's everybody else's record against him?
Speaker 2 (09:48):
You got it?
Speaker 7 (09:49):
I don't.
Speaker 11 (09:50):
I don't either. I don't lose sleep over that because
those games have been like championship caliber games, right, and
even when playing the regular season they been I just
saw twenty five scouts out there. They're all there to
watch these teams play. So that's not going to affect me,
Like I'm gonna be happy and just go lucky. If
(10:11):
our team comes back and plays, will that's what I
worry about. But that's just we gotta get better and
next year it won't have anything to do with this year.
Speaker 2 (10:18):
I mean, he's got good problems, but still if he says, oh,
we're playing a championship game, that didn't make it any better,
that makes it worse. You're one and seven, yes, and
you can't.
Speaker 4 (10:30):
Say what's everybody else's record against them? You know, Georgia,
you're one of the top teams in the country. You
can't worry about how the other schools.
Speaker 2 (10:37):
Are doing against them.
Speaker 4 (10:38):
I don't like that at all. And if it was
the other way around and there were seven and one
against Alabama, you'd be tweeting his horn a lot about them.
Speaker 2 (10:44):
This weekend the first regular season weekend in which three
of the top five ranked teams lost the first time
since twenty sixteen.
Speaker 12 (10:56):
Stand a Day Day, Heyataday. This is the stand of
the Day Stata.
Speaker 2 (11:06):
To Day, brought to you by Panini America, the official
trading cards of the program. The Giants the first OH
and three team to beat a three and O team
since two thousand and eight, when the OH and three
Chiefs beat the three and oh Broncos. Todd, we don't
need to bring these things up. We do. Uh Kevin
(11:27):
in Rochester? Hi, Kevin, what's on your mind today?
Speaker 7 (11:31):
Excuse me?
Speaker 13 (11:31):
Thanks for taking my calls. Guy Fellas five to seven,
left handed, oneint eighty point guard pass, first point guard pass,
first point guard in my forty and older rec League
Best of the Weekend four and oh Buffalo Bills, Go Bills,
move to four and oh and at least an exciting
finish to the Ryder Cup at beth Page. We had
(11:53):
the Ryder Cup in nineteen ninety five here at Oak
Hill in Rochester and love to have that event back.
The worst of the weekend is the Cowboys Packers tie.
Speaker 8 (12:04):
Excuse men.
Speaker 13 (12:05):
I wish I could take credit, but I think maybe
Seaton came up with it. I love the field goal
thirty yards out. Put both kickers out there, and then
maybe you move back five yards, move back.
Speaker 14 (12:15):
Five yards first to miss loses.
Speaker 13 (12:19):
I get my kids at school the next morning, I
got work the next morning.
Speaker 7 (12:22):
I can't stay up.
Speaker 13 (12:23):
Till midnight for a tie.
Speaker 3 (12:25):
It's no good.
Speaker 13 (12:25):
But thanks again for taking my call.
Speaker 7 (12:27):
Go Bills.
Speaker 2 (12:27):
All right, thank you, Kevin. I think you should start
the field goal the kick off, maybe on the fifty
yard line, and then you could go incrementally five yards
and then five yards, and then you get to sixty
and then you don't get to tie. How many ties
do we have a year in the regular season.
Speaker 6 (12:48):
In the past eight years, we've had eight ties. Okay,
I'm going to do the average of one per season.
Speaker 2 (12:54):
Okay, eight years, eight thank you, Paul, I.
Speaker 6 (12:57):
Did it myself.
Speaker 2 (12:58):
You did it.
Speaker 6 (12:59):
What But it's it's it's often enough that it's still
a bummer because it feels like the game was all
or not.
Speaker 2 (13:09):
But you're going to get teams coaches who say, you know,
should it come down to something as gimmicky as that? Right,
players are probably going to say, hey, let's just start
at the twenty five yard line. You see if you
can score and uh, if you do, then we can
match you. If you kick a field goal, we score
a touchdown, then we win. Or you kick a field goal,
(13:31):
we kick a field goal, then we do it again.
Now the NFL is trying to maybe get rid of
is more plays. Yeah, you know that's probably it's like
the two point conversion. Yeah. I remember somebody from the
league office saying, we just don't want more collisions. They
don't want to be adding. We're trying to subtract and
(13:52):
better protect.
Speaker 6 (13:53):
Yes, I don't know if you remember this classic mcglove
n quote. We were discussing ties like a decade ago,
because you know, all these tie games, they're always great games.
He actually said that, of course they're great games.
Speaker 2 (14:03):
The nights all end Rick in Arizona. Hi, Rick, what's
on your mind?
Speaker 7 (14:09):
Hey?
Speaker 15 (14:09):
Good morning, Dan, Thanks taking my call.
Speaker 7 (14:12):
Five ten two ten.
Speaker 15 (14:16):
Hey, I got a best and a worst of the weekend,
But first I just wanted to thank you for displaying
that Riverside Police Department patch on your desk there. My
wife and I were both cops there for thirty years,
so we really appreciate it.
Speaker 2 (14:28):
Oh good, Yes, I get patches fire departments, EMT's police
and tried to display. I probably got one hundred and
fifty of those right now. Glad to do that. We
really appreciate it.
Speaker 7 (14:44):
Hey.
Speaker 15 (14:44):
My best of the weekend my Rams beating the Colts
to go three and one, and right now, I don't
think there's anybody better than Matthew Stafford for a late
game comeback. And my worst are the my La Angels
another ninety game losing season of lost ninety nine last year.
Speaker 8 (15:02):
I really feel for Mike Trout.
Speaker 15 (15:04):
You know, I was glad he gave us that long
term hometown discount when he signed, but I'd really love
to see him playing for a winning team.
Speaker 8 (15:12):
I think it's just a waste.
Speaker 2 (15:14):
Matthew Stafford's touchdown pass to two to two act Well
was eighty eight yards, and that is the longest game
winning scrimmage touchdown in the final two minutes of regulation
since nineteen sixty eighty eight yards. Stat of the Day,
stat of the Day, Bus stat of the Day, stat.
Speaker 11 (15:36):
Of the Day?
Speaker 7 (15:37):
Here comes that?
Speaker 2 (15:39):
What stat of the Day. Take a break. We'll talk
to Rick new Heisel after this.
Speaker 1 (15:46):
Be sure to catch the live edition of The Dan
Patrick Show weekdays at nine am Eastern six am Pacific
on Fox Sports Radio and the iHeartRadio WAP.
Speaker 16 (15:56):
Hey, We're Cavino and Rich Fox Sports Radio. Every day
I have to seven pm Eastern.
Speaker 7 (16:01):
But here's the thing.
Speaker 16 (16:02):
We never have enough time to get to everything we
want to get.
Speaker 17 (16:04):
To and that's why we have a brand new podcast
called over Promised. You see, we're having so much fun
in our two hour show. We never get to everything, honestly,
because this guy is over promising things we never have
time for.
Speaker 1 (16:17):
Yeah, you blubber lit me.
Speaker 16 (16:19):
Well, you know what it's called over promise. You should
be good at it because you've been over promising women
for years.
Speaker 17 (16:23):
Well, it's a Covino and Rich after show, and we
want you to be a part of it. We're gonna
be talking sports of course, but we're also gonna talk
life and relationships. And if Rich and I are arguing
about something or we didn't have enough time, it will
continue on our after show called over Promised.
Speaker 16 (16:37):
Well, if you don't get enough Covino and Rich, make
sure you check out over Promised and also Uncensored, by
the way, so maybe we'll go at it even a
little harder. It's gonna be the best after show podcast
of all time.
Speaker 17 (16:47):
There you go, over Promising, and remember you could see
it on YouTube, but definitely join us. Listen Over Promised
with Covino and Rich on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts
or wherever you get your podcasts.
Speaker 2 (16:59):
We'll talk to Rick new Iso from CBS Sports. He'll
join us momentarily. I was correct. The Packers and Cowboys
played to a forty forty tie, second highest scoring tie
in pro football history. The Raiders and the Patriots in
the AFL played to a forty three forty three tie
in nineteen sixty four. I had one of the teams right.
(17:22):
Stata the Day Stata the Jay. We love you.
Speaker 12 (17:28):
Stata Day Stanta the Day Stanta the Jay.
Speaker 9 (17:34):
Oh damn, give us stat of.
Speaker 2 (17:37):
This stat of the day brought you by Panini America.
Josh in Lake Tahoe. Hi, Josh, welcome to the program.
Speaker 3 (17:46):
I thanks Van Hi Hi six foot tall to twenty
six first time, long time, Thanks for taking my call. Yeah, hey,
I love your show. I just wanted to heads up.
I know you're a big Jerry West fan. And there
is an auction tomorrow for a Jerry West uniform by
(18:06):
Subby's and it's a full uniform, top, short, the whole
deal and starting its four hundred thousand dollars.
Speaker 2 (18:14):
I thought you might inter I love Jerry, not four
hundred thousand dollars worth, but whoever gets that good. I
remember when I saw the Lakers in person, this had
to be nineteen seventy seventy one, and I remember those
uniforms they came out. They're in Cincinnati to play the Royals,
(18:34):
and I'm like, oh, look at those uniforms and Gary
Jerry had the low cut Adidas so the stripes, the
three stripes were that Laker gold. I'm like, I'm in love.
I love the shoes, love those uniforms.
Speaker 6 (18:48):
Chance Pauling Dan, I'm on the Southeby's website right now,
and if I send this to you.
Speaker 2 (18:52):
I think you may buy it.
Speaker 6 (18:53):
It is scaldingly gorgeous. It's the dark royal blue Lakers
days with the white and light blue forty four in
the Los Angeles and script and Lakers down the sides,
plus socks, oh, plus warm up jacket that game used
by Jerry West. I think this is a good investment. Yes,
(19:15):
also hot take. The Lakers should have never changed from
that color scheme.
Speaker 7 (19:18):
Old please.
Speaker 2 (19:19):
So that was the Minneapolis Colors, right.
Speaker 10 (19:22):
This is early Los ANGELESO. So Minneapolis going to Los Angeles,
but they kept the royal blue in the light blue
with the shadow forty four with the Los Angeles across
the top.
Speaker 7 (19:35):
Yeah.
Speaker 6 (19:36):
I see what Marvi is saying. It was gorgeous, But
the purple and gold is gutsy changing the purple and gold.
But the Lakers were so good when they went to
purple and gold. It made them brand and gorgeous.
Speaker 2 (19:47):
Jake and Philly Hi, Jake.
Speaker 18 (19:49):
Pay first time, long time five eight and a bulking
one seventy. Okay, I have the best of worst of
the weekend for you. I'll start with the worst. I
am a disheartened graduate of the Pennsylvania State University and
I just think it is statistically fascinating how this team
(20:11):
is always exactly this level of good where they're always
a very good team and they beat everybody except in
the big game, and you're always good enough to be
just one call, one playaway from winning and it never happened.
I mean, what are the odds that it never ever
goes our way? And I actually like James Franklin. I
(20:33):
think he's a very good coach. But of course, when
you go three quarters without seeing the red zone at
home off of By in the white out, it's pretty
tough to find a silver lining. And my pro team, Dan,
this is the best of the weekend. And a question
for you is the four and zero reigning Super Bowl
champion EA G l Es Eagles And they had on
(20:53):
the broadcast Dean Blandino, whom you also had on and
he was talking about the tush push even though Eagles
weren't running it. And my question for you, because you know,
they mentioned that it's very tough to officiate, and that's
what you talk to him about. But my question would be,
even if you get rid of that extra tush pusher,
does that make it suddenly way more easier to officiate?
(21:16):
I feel like even if you take the extra tush
pusher out, you're still going to have a scrum. You're
still going to have offensive linemen jumping, You're still gonna
have defensive linemen in the neutrals one, and the.
Speaker 8 (21:24):
Eagles are still going to.
Speaker 18 (21:26):
Be better at it than everybody else in the league.
And so my question would be does that really help
anything out because I'm not quite sure what removing the
tush push would actually solve for the league.
Speaker 2 (21:37):
Yeah, I've said that Philadelphia is still going to be
successful and they were with just quarterback sneaks because of
Jalen Jalen hurts, you know, is the difference. But if
I take two bodies out of the equation from behind him,
maybe there's less clutter there. It would help if they called,
you know, when the offensive line jumps or the defensive
line is in the neutral zone. I get those things right.
(22:00):
You can do that the play. It's really difficult to
officiate where you're going to spot, you know, where the
ball carrier is. Ohio State went to Washington and they
made it look a whole lot easier than they thought
they would. Old Miss over lsu Pama at Georgia with
the win, Florida State loses to Virginia, Notre Dame of
(22:21):
the big win against Arkansas A and m over Auburn
and Indiana over Iowa make way for Rick Neuheisel, CBS
Sports former college football coach. With all of that being said,
the most important win of the weekend was turned in.
Speaker 19 (22:36):
By Alabama, A fantastic win for Kaitlin de Boor the
Alabama faithful now have renewed hope and renewed faith in
what Caitlin's getting done there. And also for Ty Simpson,
who gets now the kind of spotlight that he deserves
(22:59):
because I don't think he was even bad in the
Florida State game. I thought he actually played pretty darn well.
He's a big time player, and I think the Alabama
win was sensational.
Speaker 2 (23:10):
Ohio State going to Washington, I thought it was going
to be more of a game. I really thought Washington
would put up a better test. But does it say
more about Ohio State or Washington, Well.
Speaker 7 (23:24):
It says a lot about Matt Patricia. First.
Speaker 19 (23:27):
First of all, we've known that Ryan Day has this
chameleon ability to see what the opponent can do and
then adjust a game plan without thinking about his offensive numbers.
When you have a guy like Jeremiah Smith, you've got
to get him the ball. But he doesn't worry about
getting Jeremiah Smith the ball. He worries about making the
(23:47):
game go in the direction that he wants to with
his best chance to win. And he just basically suffocated
Demon Williams. They had played this cage technique, wouldn't let
him get out at halftime. He had zero yards rushing
and that takes a huge piece of Jetfish's offense away
from him. So I think Matt Patricia has adapted to
college football beautifully. I know it is a big story
(24:10):
when Jim Knowles left, but Patricia is really doing a
great job at Ohio State.
Speaker 2 (24:15):
Is there a great team in college football?
Speaker 19 (24:18):
I don't know. I don't think so now. Maybe one
will evolve, but right now, no one's dominant, which makes
the postseason as we look ahead, seem so juicy. It
is going to have so many plot twists as we
get closer and closer to it.
Speaker 7 (24:34):
Which I think we're all here for.
Speaker 2 (24:37):
Is being good good enough at Penn State?
Speaker 19 (24:42):
Well it obviously it is right He's been there for
this double digit years and he's four and twenty one
against top ten teams.
Speaker 7 (24:52):
But they still are there.
Speaker 19 (24:54):
And I think the fact that they came back in
that game down seventeen to three and got it into
overtime and and look good in overtime other than the
errant pass that gets picked. I think as long as
they get to ten and two, they're going to be
a college football playoff team. And then it's again seating.
But there's going to be always this shadow and this
(25:18):
cloud hanging over both the quarterback and the head coach
until they fix it.
Speaker 2 (25:24):
But if let's look at this hypothetically, if you had
that record at Michigan, you're not keeping your job. If
you had that record at Ohio State, you're not keeping
your job. Alabama Georgia. Fair right, Yeah, that's fair. I
just think they see and especially with the guys that
(25:45):
leave Penn State and go off to the next level,
how many quality players. I just think that they see
enough good that what are we going to do? That's
different if we go away from it, and they they
give the home crowd at least enough hope in these
games they're not trounced so that they keep coming back
(26:07):
and they keep coming back wearing the same outfit. It's
incredible they keep wearing that white. Rick new Heisl CBS
Sports college football analyst and former head coach, do you
have a quarterback crush?
Speaker 19 (26:20):
I love this angelic assassin Julian saying, you know, he
looks like he hasn't shaved yet, but the guy is
a phenomenal talent. And I really love Demon Williams, the
kid that was on the other side. I mean, you
talk about a guy who can throw it and then
get his legs involved. Jed's gonna have to find some
(26:40):
more formations and ways to get his legs involved because
taking them away is a bad equation for the dogs.
They got a tough game this week against Maryland.
Speaker 2 (26:50):
Fernando Mendoza love him.
Speaker 7 (26:53):
I love him.
Speaker 19 (26:53):
Okay, I feel like I want to put on my
ABBA's Greatest Hits album. You know, Fernando Fernando. It's a
catchy tune. Now, Dan, you'll find yourself humming along.
Speaker 2 (27:05):
H Lane Kiffin, is this a different year for him?
And if so, well, what good for Lane?
Speaker 7 (27:13):
Listen?
Speaker 19 (27:13):
This Trinidad Chambliss is a great story too. A year
ago he was playing for Farris State in D two
and now he's he's the toast of Hotty Toddy Town
and it's it's a wonderful story. I mean, Glaine's even
got his daughter out there doing reconnaissance. So this is
a this is a team effort for the Kiffins.
Speaker 2 (27:33):
I don't know if it sounds like you're all in
on ole miss.
Speaker 19 (27:37):
I was worried about the fact that they gave up
so many yards rushing. They were, you know, came into
this game against LSU giving up one hundred and ninety
yards a game on the ground without necessarily a formidable schedule.
We'll wait and see, but that was a yeoman effort.
And now the hot seats Brian Kelly because those those
folks in the Bay you don't like not having This
(28:00):
was supposed to be a really good offense right with
nuss Meyer and coming back, and it just isn't. The
defense has been fixed, but the offense now is not
coming along for the ride.
Speaker 2 (28:10):
Yeah, it feels like and maybe this is the Kaelin
de Boor feel that he'll be going through that with Brian.
Brian's not one of them, even though he has a
great resume. It just feels like it's not weak to
week as it is with you know Alabama, but I
don't know. It just feels odd with Brian Kelly and
(28:30):
Vaton Rouge.
Speaker 19 (28:31):
And he's he's, you know, he's got little Lord Fauntleroy
type kind of personality. He's you know, he's the the
all knowing and it's just not it's fine with the results,
but when the results aren't there, they're going to start
picking at one that's not one of them.
Speaker 2 (28:50):
As they say, I'm curious what you think of Diego
Pavilla at Vandy because I've watched him now and he
minds me of Baker Mayfield, like he's just got he.
Speaker 7 (29:01):
Plays with that. Have you met him? Have you met
him down?
Speaker 2 (29:03):
I've had him on the show.
Speaker 19 (29:05):
He is so charming, he is he is a absolute
I mean, you just want to put your arms around him.
He's a little guy, he's not not a big guy,
and yet you can't help but love him. And Clark
Lee saw this goes back to when he was with
Jerry Kill at New Mexico State. They went into Auburn
(29:25):
and beat Auburn thirty one to ten and beat him
like soundly right. It was not an accident, wasn't a
bunch of turnovers, just soundly. So Clark Lee, who's losing
his team to the transfer portal, looks around and says,
I got to get I got to have New Mexico
State come here and basically brought them all. Jerry Kill,
(29:45):
the quarterback, the offensive coordinator, the wide receiver coach, the
quarterback coach, all come to Vanderbilt. He gives the offense
to them, and they have been brilliant. They're averaging forty
nine points a game. This game in Tuscaloosa is one
of the big games of the weekend.
Speaker 7 (30:01):
I can't wait to watch.
Speaker 2 (30:02):
It usc Lincoln Riley complained about the start time for this.
You sign up for the Big Ten, you're probably going
to play some of these games, right, And they played
pretty well, But I don't think you can go into
a game and already have an excuse why you might
not play well.
Speaker 19 (30:22):
It doesn't do well to talk about it publicly. I
think that there should be a little bit more protection
for West Coast teams that are traveling. And maybe you
say it can only happen once a year, but the
bottom line is you're right.
Speaker 7 (30:37):
It only looks like you're.
Speaker 19 (30:39):
Whining, and that's not a good look for Lincoln, whose
team was off to a good start and just a
couple of ill advised turnovers in this game were the difference.
But it was a great job, a great job, but
bielama to get his team off the mat after being
bludgeoned by Indiana the week previous.
Speaker 2 (30:57):
Good to talk to you.
Speaker 7 (30:58):
Thanks you always a treat, my friend. You have a
great week. Six.
Speaker 2 (31:02):
Rick new Heisl former coach now working for CBS Sports.
This just in theleak. Neighbors is out for the rest
of the season. Tornaco and Schefter reporting that, Yeah, I
wondered about that. And there's been a lot of dialogue
about that playing field at MetLife, and there's certain well
(31:25):
it used to be back in the eighties and the nineties,
there were certain playing surfaces that had a reputation. I
remember I remember being in Philadelphia and it felt like
concrete and it might have been concrete with just a
thin layer of aster turf, and I just thought, I
can't imagine, you know, somebody tackling you or falling down
(31:49):
on your head. No wonder you get these concussions when
you're head Sometimes you'll see somebody's head, you know, kind
of bounce off the aster turf and they're like, man,
you got a concussion on that. It's like, yeah, if
you feel that, man, But that's a shame, especially you know,
Jackson Darry. You gotta have elite neighbors out there.
Speaker 8 (32:08):
Yeah.
Speaker 6 (32:08):
Pauli Odell Beckham tweeted about this as well, saying everyone
should go to grass fields. The players want grass fields.
I think it's fifty to fifty grass fields and artificial turf.
But I don't think it's artificial turf or grass. I
think it's how your field is taken care of. The
Chicago Bears have grass and it's horrendous. It's terrible. It's
it's just as dangerous as the commanders.
Speaker 2 (32:30):
That playing surface, Yes, terrible.
Speaker 6 (32:32):
It's it's the condition and the care, not the I
don't think the surface.
Speaker 2 (32:36):
Man, you know you get these non contact injuries. Yeah,
what a bummer. The colonel in Tampa, welcome back.
Speaker 14 (32:47):
Thank you, Daniel. I was remiss last time. Six four pounds,
worst worst of worst of was the Ryder Cup. That's
not golf, that's not that's not happy Gilmore two or
three golf. My best of it was a hot day
(33:07):
on the ball.
Speaker 2 (33:08):
Me Bermuda.
Speaker 14 (33:09):
Dan Eagle sees the initiative created irreversible momentum, but we
almost got it back. Dan got to work on the
special teams with a great field goal. But I was
really really happy and watching the bucks is always going
to be my best of Lastly, Dan, del Maybury is
three lanes. Del Maybury Highway is three lanes. Please do
(33:32):
not disrupt practice this week. So much confusion on del
Maybury this week. We can't have that.
Speaker 2 (33:37):
Thanks a lot, Dan, all right, thank you, colonel. This
is what the Ryder Cup has become. But this is
what has been promoted. It's going to be crazy. Well,
if you're telling people it's going to be crazy, then
how crazy is crazy?
Speaker 7 (33:56):
You know?
Speaker 2 (33:57):
When I talked to Brandall Chamblee on third day of
last week, I said, you know, can you go too far?
And he said yes, And we saw that that crowd
went too far.
Speaker 10 (34:09):
Yes, Mar Even Colin more Kawar earlier this week said
he wanted chaos. I was like, for what, it's golf.
Speaker 2 (34:16):
I just want you to be excited and into it.
The problem was the European team took the crowd out
of it for two days. They were desperate to yell something,
and then the crowd got angry. Yes, well, I think
I think.
Speaker 5 (34:31):
It was Rory who, after some point this weekend, was
in a press conference and he said that he didn't
understand when rooting for your team turned into like denigrating
the other team more than you cheer for your own players.
And so I think his example was if you listen
to the anyone like the European fans, they're cheering for Europe,
they're not dragging the United States, and the United States
(34:54):
fans had it the exact opposite, where all they did
was talk trash to Europe rather than cheer on their own.
Speaker 2 (34:59):
Guy Jalen Rose hit a shot from the side of
the grand stand, and uh so, when what did I say,
Jalen Rose? Justin Rose did it, and he hit a
shot that was unbelievable, And as soon as he hits it,
you hear some knucklehead go get in the bunker, and
(35:23):
you're like, and it was an unbelievable shot. And he
made the putt as well, and they're like, celebrate when
you guys do well. But I don't think it's a
somebody hits the ball and you go get in the
water getting the bunker, and it feels that way and
once again, it's not an indictment on everybody, but there
(35:45):
was enough where it's not just a couple of people.
And it feels like that we've encouraged this kind of behavior,
this kind of atmosphere, and when they're yelling stuff at Rory,
they somebody threw a beer at his wife. I mean,
we're better than that, aren't we. We'll take a break.

Speaker 2 (36:19):
What we learn? What's in store tomorrow? I have the
current worst odds to win the Super Bowl. Which team
has the worst odds to win the Super Bowl? Marvin,
New Orleans Saints. They are tied. It's a two way tie.
Speaker 4 (36:36):
Yes, tod I'm gonna go Tennessee Titan Yay.
Speaker 2 (36:40):
Yes, it's one hundred thousand to one. I think so
you're saying there's a chance good payout. Then after that
the Panthers plus seventy thousand, Oh, then there's a one, two, three, four,
five way tie after that, Browns, Raiders, Dolphins, Jets, Giants
(37:06):
at plus forty thousand. But it's the Saints and the Titans.
I tried to watch the Titans. I tried. I gave up,
just like the Titans did. That's bad. That's a coach
that not every coordinator should be a head coach. And
(37:30):
I'm watching cam Ward. Cam Ward, these guys come in
and they're not used to having failure. They're not used
to losing, you know, more games than they did in
a single season when they're in college. And you could
see the frustration. But that's a bad football team. And
was the Panthers Patriots line? Was that a pick them?
Speaker 7 (37:53):
Am?
Speaker 2 (37:54):
I did? I misread that because I kept thinking, wait
a minute, the Patriots are at home, and the Patriots
I think are a good team. But for some reason
I thought that this was like a one one point
the two point point.
Speaker 6 (38:11):
Spread, yampol, I'm seeing five and a half points in
two different places.
Speaker 2 (38:14):
Oh okay, because I thought somebody said, you know, this
is a pick them, I'm thinking it's not a pick them.
This is Patriots and they ended up playing better than
I thought they would. Let's see, Okay, two games, one
headline right, one headline, two games, one headline. Yes, you
get one headline from you can pick whatever game. You
(38:39):
got two games, but you get one headline to right, Paul,
Why don't you set the example?
Speaker 6 (38:45):
Oh gosh, how about this? Were they rocky Mountain High?
Denver loses to the Bengals. Oh I like that one
at all, But get it, John, Denver, get that.
Speaker 4 (38:58):
Colorado ud big bang theory mix the idea of beating Broncos,
Big bang theory, basinga instead of bang theory, bang for Bengals.
Oh okay, big bang theory mix the idea of beating Broncos.
Speaker 2 (39:17):
Okay, and you got a headline.
Speaker 5 (39:20):
Bengals Schmengles, the Broncos roar in mile high Showdown Bengal
Tiger and the Broncos are the ones roaring.
Speaker 2 (39:32):
Marvin. No, yes, I don't think it's on, Marvin. You
got one.
Speaker 10 (39:39):
The Jets take their talents to South Beach. They dominate
the Dolphins.
Speaker 2 (39:42):
Don't worry, Yeah, Eric and Huntington Beach.
Speaker 20 (39:50):
Eric call six five two fifty Dad, bod First time,
long time, Just wanna first of all, thank you for
all the data advice that you've been given over the years.
I do take it to heart. I'm a work in progress.
But the greatest advice that you gave with the daughter
is to shut up and listen. And so far, so good.
(40:12):
I just have a best of the weekend and it
was we visit our daughter, speaking of her at Old Miss.
I know this is on Polly's list, but the atmosphere
in the grove was insane. Sixty five thousand people in
the stadium, probably one hundred thousand tail getting the grove.
So for next year, you guys taking tours and visiting colleges,
I want you guys to be my guest in our tent.
Speaker 9 (40:34):
We will host you and share a great.
Speaker 7 (40:36):
Time in the grove.
Speaker 20 (40:37):
I think this is on Paulie's list, so let's make
that happen.
Speaker 7 (40:41):
Well.
Speaker 2 (40:41):
Thank you, Eric. Yeah, I've been to Oxford, been to
the grove. That's where your second guest, your college voice exactly, Mike.
Why did I go to Dayton? Oh that's right for
the education. There's something like that. Uh. Kelly in Kansas, Hi, Kelly.
Speaker 21 (41:05):
Hi, Keeping, thanks for taking my call. Hey, I can't
believe I got it on Monday. I've been walking my
dogs for forty five minutes, keeping my celebrity collar figure. Hey,
calling up on Eric, it's dad advice.
Speaker 22 (41:19):
Let's just make that marital advice Monday for shut up
and listen, because my husband Robert has given me the
wrap it up sign before I forgot about that.
Speaker 21 (41:30):
I locked it in the back of my mind. But
my uncle also tends to use the term land the
plane for his wife.
Speaker 2 (41:39):
Yeah you know, I did it once in a joking
way with my wife, just once.
Speaker 5 (41:47):
Perfectly time too, and then not wrapping it up just
before the end.
