Speaker 1 (00:00):
You are listening to the Dan Patrick Show on Fox
Sports Radio.
Speaker 2 (00:04):
Bad football, bad uniforms, Dolphins hold off the Jets, big news.
Tyreek kill his season is done, dislocated, his knees, got
torn ligaments as well. Broncos embarrassed the Bengals twenty eight
to three. The Bengals. They had more penalties than first
downs last night. And I will say it once again,
(00:26):
you don't want to waste a season, and that's what
you're going to do. You lose Joe Burrow, you can't
replace him, But can you get a reasonable fact simile?
Can you get somebody who is a starting quarterback? And
that is Kirk Cousins or Russell Wilson. If not, you've
already punted on the season. And you saw that last night.
That was not football. It felt like there was one
(00:48):
NFL team on the field and then there was a
college football team.
Speaker 3 (00:52):
This was really.
Speaker 2 (00:55):
It was ugly and even Troy Aikman was voicing his
displeasure with watching bad football. The Jets are just dumb.
You know, I'm watching the game. You can't get to
the line of scrimmage on time falls starts. They could
easily be two and two. They could be now they're
zero and four. They don't feel zero and four. And
the Dolphins you get a win, but you lose Tyreek Hill,
(01:19):
and that's one of those it's not just a season
that you lose him. Now you start to think about
a bigger picture here for Tyreek Hill, that kind of
injury coming back from those injuries. Even if he does
this doesn't feel like it's a one year that he'll
be out. So the Dolphins hold off the Jets and
they win it. Broncos get the win. It's hard to
assess the Broncos when you play in a game like
(01:40):
that because the Bengals are just bad. It looked like
they were disinterested. It's hard to you know, you would think,
you go, okay, it's Week four, like okay, we'd be
playing the NFL, we're in prime time.
Speaker 3 (01:54):
Let's go out there and ply.
Speaker 2 (01:55):
And it just felt like, yeah, okay, we'll go through
the motions here. And Jamar Chase is not a happy camper.
He confronted his head coach. But then his head coach
was like, That's why I love Jamar. You know, he cares,
he's fire, he's you know all this stuff. I'm like, no, no,
he's actually really really angry here. How are you going
(02:17):
to solve that? And Jake Browning was vanilla generic, but
it's not all on him. I mean that was you know,
all three phases that the Bengals just not a good
football team. And you know, when you start to think
about the numbers here in the previous nine years, the
Bengals have had fewer than one hundred and seventy five
(02:39):
yards of offense two times in nine years. They've done
so three times in the last four games. Stat of
the Day brought to you by Panini America, the official
trading cards of the program. Merchandise is open for business
(03:03):
and the popular T shirt that was brought about created
by Todd Fritz, the pass Hoole. It's going very well
on Danpatrick dot com and tomorrow's the last day you
can get it, so the window is open only for
a couple of days. With that T shirt, go to
Danpatrick dot com and Seaton would you do the honors?
Speaker 3 (03:23):
For a poll question for hour one?
Speaker 4 (03:25):
The Jets are better than their record or who we
thought they were?
Speaker 2 (03:32):
I think they're both. I think they're better than their record,
but they're who I thought they'd be. Aaron Glenn, you know,
brings in culture. He's a former player and trying to
bring in that Dan Campbell culture. And it's going to
take a while, but you'd got to get rid of
the stupid penalties. You may not be as good as
the opposition, but don't beat yourself. And I think there
(03:55):
were three penalties in a span of four plays. I go,
if you can't get out of the huddle and get
to the line of scrimmage on time, how about you
move your huddle two yards closer to the line of scrimmage.
Speaker 5 (04:09):
Yeah, so your eight yards back?
Speaker 3 (04:12):
Like what are you doing?
Speaker 2 (04:14):
And once again I'm a Justin Field's apologist. I think
he has talent. I think he's been bounced around with
coaches and coordinators. I think he can be dangerous. I
think he can be maybe Lamar Jackson lte. You know,
he can run the ball. I think he's a decent passer.
Maybe he with the right coaching, can become a good passer.
(04:36):
They got one, they got one receiver. They got Garrett Wilson.
That's it. Now, he's great. But other than that, I mean,
Bryce Hall can run the football. Sauce Gardner thinks that
he's being singled out that he doesn't get the calls
that he should. But you know, the Jets should be
a little more formidable, and they could have won that
(04:58):
game last night.
Speaker 3 (04:59):
It's not like the Dolph were dominating.
Speaker 4 (05:01):
Yeah, Seaton, they so far the Jets. Week one they
lost thirty four to thirty two to Pittsburgh. The Week
two was thirty to ten Buffalo, all right, but then
twenty nine to twenty seven to Tampa, and now twenty
seven to twenty one to Miami. I mean those are
all very close games for the most part.
Speaker 3 (05:19):
Yeah, yeah, Poly.
Speaker 6 (05:20):
You know what's gonna happen here. The Jets right now
have the second pick of the draft. They'll be a
top three draft pick. They'll draft a quarterback and start
this thing all over again. Because they have no money
really invested in fields, they can easily move on from
them and nail. The cycle of the Jets going with
a young quarterback will start again next year.
Speaker 4 (05:38):
What other pole questions do you have, Seaton. Let's see,
we've got a couple here from the t dub. We
have a couple of poll questions that are all sort
of in the similar vein. But it's not even October
which NFL team has already mostly done. Bengals, Jets, Saints,
Titans mine as well. This is a little bit of
a kick them while they're down pole question, because then
(05:58):
we also have from Paul, which team feels like the
worst in the NFL so far? Bengals, Browns, Jets, Saints,
Titans basically all the same group.
Speaker 2 (06:07):
I would say the Titans, they just feel like they're
just lost. It's like, you know, maybe we'll regroup next year,
but they're going to be one of those teams that
has a couple.
Speaker 3 (06:18):
Of wins where you go, damn, okay, where was this
all year?
Speaker 2 (06:21):
It feels like like Carolina was like that last year
where it was like, man, they're going.
Speaker 3 (06:26):
Toe to toe with the Chiefs. Where's that been?
Speaker 2 (06:28):
It's weird how it clicks sometimes and you don't know
when it. It's called being in the zone. Baseball players
talk about being in the zone. It's called getting blue
where you're hitting everything like everything's great, you can't or
you're you know, Steph Curry shooting and can't miss.
Speaker 3 (06:43):
It's called being in the zone.
Speaker 2 (06:45):
And teams get in that and then they don't know
how they got in, and they don't know why they
got out.
Speaker 3 (06:51):
But that's going to happen.
Speaker 2 (06:52):
The Jets are probably going to have a couple of
those games where you go, where's this been? Maybe the
Bengals they put it together for a couple of games
and you go, okay, that's why they kept Jake Browning
and didn't trade for Russell Wilson Junior. The third Yes,
Marvin Well.
Speaker 7 (07:06):
In the Titans case, it's going to be a lot
of good losses like, oh, you know what, we played
the Colts really well, almost like the Panthers last year.
They played the Chiefs really well. They didn't win, but
you'll take it as a win if you're that bad.
Speaker 2 (07:17):
Yeah, Saints are bad, but it doesn't they don't feelize
in an inept as the Titans.
Speaker 3 (07:25):
Do you know the brown situation?
Speaker 2 (07:27):
Keep an eye on this because Dylan Gabriel is going
to get the start at some point really soon. Now
do you start him overseas in London against the Vikings defense?
Now I would say no, but then it's the Browns.
Jackson Dard started at home against the Chargers.
Speaker 3 (07:49):
That's different.
Speaker 2 (07:50):
But Dylan Gabriel he's going to get the start at
some point here real soon. And then I wonder is
Joe Flacco going to stay on on the roster. It
feels like he needs to be there. You have to
have a grown up in the room with the young
quarterbacks there. But he would be a guy that I
would look at maybe joining another team if you could
(08:11):
get Flacco bring him over to Cincinnati. But I think
Dylan Gabriel is going to get to start soon. And
then Shador Sanders does he get to come on down
and try his luck there? Eight seven to seven to
three DP Show email address DP at Danpatrick dot com,
Twitter handle at DP show. Once again, a lot of
baseball coming up this afternoon and tonight we'll recap what
(08:34):
happened last night and Tyreek Hill, not only the dislocation
but also the need ligaments. Adam Schefter reporting that this
morning that it's more than just a dislocation. Any other
poll questions that you're considering their seating, Well, we got.
Speaker 4 (08:51):
One sort of a negative one here from Todd MLB
Wildcard rounds question mark, let's go, I'll glance at it.
Have it on in the background of the divisional round.
Speaker 3 (09:01):
Thanks, No, I think these are great matchups Tigers Guardians.
Speaker 4 (09:06):
I doesn't think so.
Speaker 5 (09:07):
Sorry, no, I didn't make my vote.
Speaker 8 (09:09):
I'm throwing that out as choices for anybody. For me,
I'll I'm not going to be watching every inning of
every game.
Speaker 3 (09:14):
What is what is your vote?
Speaker 8 (09:16):
My vote would be uh, I will be taking periodic
peaks in the background. As opposed to let's go starting
today Wildcard. I'm just I'm being honest, and I love baseball.
I loved it more in the seventies and eighties.
Speaker 3 (09:26):
But I don't think anybody says let's go.
Speaker 2 (09:29):
Tom Brady says let's I'm Brady, like, do you walk
in and turn on the TV and go, let's go.
Speaker 3 (09:34):
I'm a big let's go Guyyah to.
Speaker 8 (09:35):
Admit for Bronco games. Everything else says no, no, but
I'll definitely have it on. But I'm not going to
sit there watching everything. But if the Astros were in it,
even the Astros, you know, because we know I'm a
fake fan and you are, they cheated.
Speaker 5 (09:46):
They didn't cheat.
Speaker 8 (09:47):
I was more of an asher fen in.
Speaker 3 (09:47):
The eighties Tigers Guardians. That's entertaining. Big collapse by the Tigers.
Speaker 9 (09:53):
Uh.
Speaker 3 (09:54):
Padres of the Cubs nineteen eighty four.
Speaker 5 (09:57):
Let's no, God, no, Dad, I can't believe you said that.
Speaker 2 (10:00):
Red Sox Yankees, Yeah uh, and then reds at the Dodgers, Right, Yeah,
I think it'd be fun.
Speaker 3 (10:09):
I'm excited about it. Let's go.
Speaker 10 (10:10):
Yeah.
Speaker 8 (10:11):
To flip the switch though, a little bit like we
none of us don't think watch that much baseball on
a regular basis now, especially with the NFL and college
football and basketball and hockey right around the corner.
Speaker 5 (10:20):
Can you flip the.
Speaker 8 (10:20):
Switch from I took a peek here and there at
you know, the fifth inning of somethinghere to.
Speaker 3 (10:24):
Do that with college basketball?
Speaker 5 (10:26):
College basketball, I watched the good amount of college basket.
Speaker 3 (10:29):
You wait till March.
Speaker 5 (10:30):
I watched a lot more from mars menis for sure.
Speaker 10 (10:32):
Yeah.
Speaker 5 (10:32):
NBA, that's yeah, that's a lot more exciting than the playoffs.
Speaker 3 (10:36):
It is more exciting, So that's what most people say
the playoffs.
Speaker 4 (10:40):
To be fair, though, the NBA playoffs are almost four
months long, so it is like a whole season in
and of itself that you can skip the first one
and be like, I'm gonna watch the second season.
Speaker 3 (10:48):
I don't know it starts, so I go, let's go, yeah, Paul.
Speaker 6 (10:52):
Yeah, baseball has instant urgency. They also schedule it so
you could watch all four games back to back, and
it's all on national TV. It's very easy to consume
during the year. You watch your team during the day,
during the night, and then you get highlights from the
other team. It's it's completely different the playoffs.
Speaker 2 (11:07):
By the way, I did mention the uniforms. Broncos, stop
trying so hard. Okay, you have iconic uniforms. You don't
need to reinvent them. I know it's merchandise. Dolphins, that's
a bad look. It's a bad look from the TV perspective,
and that might be a uniform that looks a lot
better in person. The Bengals when you're a bad team,
(11:31):
your uniforms look bad. And the Jets, I still mean,
it's the same uniform. I love the Jets green, but
it's kind of an uninspiring uniform. Maybe it's classic when
you win, like they have a classic looking uniform.
Speaker 7 (11:46):
Yes, Marmon, the Broncos lost me as soon as I
saw them wear blue uniforms.
Speaker 3 (11:50):
Yeah, what are we doing? Crush, come on, Yes, and
you try to sell on social media.
Speaker 5 (11:56):
It's midnight Blue Weekly called it. Yeah, I'm gonna buy it, Jared.
Speaker 3 (12:01):
I watched that channel I think growing up it blew. Yeah,
that was fabulous.
Speaker 6 (12:04):
Yes, yes, And the Broncos they just relaunched their uniforms
last year, so they'll stick for a few years because
no one wants to admit a mistake.
Speaker 10 (12:12):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (12:14):
Uh had a interesting back and forth with Marvin this morning.
We were discussing. Marvin claimed that he was tall, and
I said that he wasn't, and uh so we had
a little back and forth there. We're gonna have to
get the definition of Now, to me, tall is six
to two, maybe maybe six', one But i'm gonna say
(12:39):
six to two means you're tall in my, family in
my world growing, up six to, two, okay tall, tall
drink of, Water marvin tried to. Shoehorn, yeah if you're
six feet, tall you're, tall, Yes, marvin.
Speaker 5 (12:54):
But i've never no one's ever called me, sure but
have they called you?
Speaker 3 (12:58):
Tall? Yes, okay with you're around short. People this is
how it.
Speaker 7 (13:02):
Started we were talking about a time WHERE i was
In New york and somebody called me a tall piece of.
Speaker 5 (13:08):
Chocolate i'm sorry about, That, Marvin, yes he said To.
Speaker 3 (13:12):
Paul he.
Speaker 2 (13:12):
Stopped, yeah, yeah, Wrong, okay but you're you're not a
tall piece of. Chocolate you're not, tall.
Speaker 5 (13:20):
But i'm not short. Though but you're not.
Speaker 3 (13:23):
Tall you're an average height. Guy how tall are?
Speaker 11 (13:25):
You?
Speaker 5 (13:26):
Eh he's not six feet tall on the.
Speaker 3 (13:28):
Dot all, right then you're you're a little above. Average
that doesn't make you.
Speaker 5 (13:32):
Tall Five IF i was five, Nine i'm not. Tall.
Speaker 4 (13:35):
Yes so the average height of the of a male
in The United states is five.
Speaker 5 (13:42):
Nine that's the average.
Speaker 4 (13:43):
Height, Okay marvin is significantly taller than.
Speaker 2 (13:46):
That that just means he's a little above. Average doesn't
mean he's.
Speaker 4 (13:49):
Tall he's significantly above. Average but he's, inches but he's not.
Tall he is compared to someone who's five to. Nine,
no But i'm someone who is slightly taller than six
two can look down at him and be, like, actually
you're not that. Tall but to pretty much everybody, else
he is. Tall, marvin you're being a heightist right. Now,
Marvin i'm, Tall you're.
Speaker 3 (14:10):
Not you were. Tall i'm still taller than. You i'm
still taller than.
Speaker 6 (14:14):
You, Yes, PAUL i had the definition of tall in
The dictionary Of great or more Than Average.
Speaker 3 (14:20):
Height who Considers marvin tall in this?
Speaker 8 (14:26):
Room todd, Does, yeah Because i'm like five, ten maybe
five ten and a half or five have the right shoes.
Speaker 11 (14:31):
On so six FEET i think once you hit, six,
oh you're.
Speaker 5 (14:33):
Tall you're above average.
Speaker 4 (14:35):
Height, OKAY i wouldn't Say marvin's. TALL i would say
he's a good height. Though, yeah it's pretty it's close
to being, tall like, yeah the six y three and.
Above that's where it's, like, dang that dude is. Tall
But marvin's a good. Height McLevin was, tall mclevian was. Tall, yes,
okay McLevin was. Tall But i'm not sure, though but
you're not.
Speaker 2 (14:53):
Tall you're above average piece of chock.
Speaker 3 (15:00):
Clint, yeah of, Course.
Speaker 5 (15:06):
I'm, sure all, right you tt, yeah hurt my, FEELINGS i.
Speaker 3 (15:11):
Know but people try to glom on to six, feet you.
Speaker 11 (15:16):
Know.
Speaker 4 (15:16):
Sorry not everybody could be six. Feet i'm, sorry not
everybody could be that.
Speaker 2 (15:21):

Sorry all, right it's, okay BUT i just want to

It's it's so fast and and you, know OBVIOUSLY i
have such great respect for the guys like you, Know
Mike emrick who did it for. Years that's that's that's
the toughest game to. Call but as a, FAN i,
think you, KNOW i love. HOCKEY i love. It i've
a king season tickets for thirty three. Years season starts next.
Speaker 2 (22:17):
Week but being locked in on a game where you
have to, call you're constantly calling the. Action whereas baseball
you can let it, breathe football you can let it.
Speaker 13 (22:27):
Breathe, hockey you can't let it. Breathe yeah. No and
you KNOW tv and radio are pretty much the. Same
you almost have to do the same coali you did on.
Radio on television there's very little spacing there and it's
a it's a great little back and forth between the
play by play man and the analyst in hockey because
(22:47):
the analyst has to pick his. Foss he has to
know exactly when to come. In and on that, NOTE i,
MEAN i just have to shout out to the Late
Ken dryden who passed, away you know in the past,
month who was my part In Lake classid and you
know in the middle of The olympics for calling seven
games including obviously The soviet game and the victory Over
finland that since the gold medal And kenny had never.
(23:09):
Done he'd never done announcing in his. Life he had
just retired from The Montreal canadians after winning Six Stanley
cups something five as in the.
Speaker 10 (23:17):
Trophies he was.
Speaker 13 (23:19):
Unbelievable he had to pick a, sposs get in and
out in eight.
Speaker 10 (23:22):
Seconds it was a tough thing to do when he did.
Speaker 2 (23:24):
It talking to Al michaels will be on the Call,
Thursday Night football On Prime video With herbie and that
will start at eight Fifteen. Eastern but working with somebody,
ELSE i, mean there's, chemistry, Synchronicity but how do you
how do you suggest to your, analyst don't go as
long as you're going BECAUSE i still have to GET
(23:47):
i have to set up the. Play how do you
do that in a professional?
Speaker 13 (23:50):
Manner, WELL i Think i've been lucky through the years
because WHEN i started Doing Monday, Night Frank giffort had
done it for a lot of, years and then we
Added dan year or in nineteen eighty, seven And dan
had had done a lot of broadcasting In Saint. Louis
so you, know the guys THAT i worked with are
guys that have had a lot of. Experiences, obviously WHEN
(24:10):
i Had John madden in two thousand and two through
two thousand and, eight he understood top to. Bottom Chris
collinsworth that had had a lot of, EXPERIENCE i mean
the only AND i also Had Dan fouts for two.
Years BUT i Had dan With Dennis. Miller now that
was that was, tricky But dennis was so smart yet
he kind of figured out how to how to pull
that thing. Off but those WERE i got to tell
(24:32):
you those were two wild. Years if you remember On
Monday Night football With fouts and then do.
Speaker 2 (24:38):
The Howard cosell, relationship how would you sum that? Up
of working with somebody who was you, know there's been
nobody like him, since but dealing with somebody who had
an ego that he thought he was probably more important
than anybody else who was playing in a.
Speaker 13 (24:55):
Game, WELL i did a lot of baseball With howard
in the seventies and into the. Eighties it was a
lot of fun at. FIRST i got to, SAY i,
mean the one thing about working With kosell is you
knew you would always come away with the, story And
i've got a million of, them, Right And howard was
he was fun to work with to a degree early,
on and he got toward the end of his career in,
(25:19):
life just became bitter and it became, very very difficult
to work with him in like nineteen eighty, four nineteen eighty,
five and finally you, know that was the end Of
howard's broadcasting. Career so you, know at, first when you,
know like in the seventies and early, eighties and it
did a couple Of world series with him as.
Speaker 10 (25:35):
Well he.
Speaker 13 (25:37):
Was, fun and AS i, SAY i go home and
have you, know five stories from the night. Before and
then after that it was he did you? Know he
just grew tired of like everything at the. End so
it wasn't a pleasant.
Speaker 2 (25:49):
Departure you never got close to fistokovs Like Brent musburger
With jimmy The.
Speaker 10 (25:54):
Greek, no, no not at. All he wouldn't have been
able to handle. Them at the end of my well right.
Speaker 3 (26:02):
Before, YEAH i left.
Speaker 10 (26:03):
You you know WHAT i tell.
Speaker 3 (26:04):
You you would have thought that would have helped.
Speaker 10 (26:06):
HIM i would have pulled a soupe off.
Speaker 9 (26:10):
First you, know.
Speaker 3 (26:13):
Do you want to do one more baseball, game one
more hockey?
Speaker 11 (26:17):
Game?
Speaker 13 (26:17):
No, no not really because uh uh with, BASEBALL i
Mean i've been out of it for thirty, Years, dan
So i'm you, know beyond. Rusty Uh AND i used
to know obviously WHEN i was doing, baseball we knew. Everybody,
NOW i you, KNOW i watched The All Star game this,
YEAR i knew like six, guys seven. Guys BUT i
(26:38):
will say, this, MAN i do love postseason baseball all
of a. SUDDEN i mean it's it's. GREAT i, mean you,
know totally immersed in. It, already so postseason baseball is
as good as it, gets and just you know it's not.
Over just the way the sun, is you, know you
watch the day games and the shadows and the whole.
(26:59):
Thing IT'S i don't want to say it's, romantic BUT
i mean it's it's really it's very very.
Speaker 10 (27:04):
COOL i miss. It where do you party miss for?
Speaker 3 (27:06):
Sure where do you stand on overtime in THE?
Speaker 10 (27:09):
NFL i think they should go back to fifteen.
Speaker 13 (27:13):
MINUTES i think it's okay for a game to end
of the, tie and when it was fifteen, minutes it.
Did but the ten minute thing is is you, know
somebody obviously the other team can get the. Ball now
they've changed that, rule so each team is going to
get no matter what the first team. Does if they
score a, touchdown the other team is going to get an.
Opportunity but they may only have two, minutes so you,
(27:34):
know you might have an eight minute. Drive SO i
THINK i don't know why they went to the ten minute.
THING i think maybe to reduce, Injuries but you, KNOW i,
mean what's the difference at a certain point whether the
game is seventy minutes or seventy five?
Speaker 10 (27:45):
Minutes you Got the only THING i would. CHANGE i
go back to.
Speaker 2 (27:47):
Fifteen you got The rams and The, niners and here
you got The niners a lot of interchangeable parts. Here
how does that change your approach tonight broadcasting doing play by?
Speaker 13 (27:57):
Play, WELL i mean The niners are star. CROSSED i
mean last year six and eleven because of all of the,
injuries and here we go. Again Brock perdy is not playing.
Tonight George kittle is is still an injury. Reserve they're
two top Receivers pearsol And jenny's are. Out they've got you,
KNOW i Mean DeMarcus robinson Or Marcus Valdez scambing are
(28:20):
two of their guys that are going, to you, know
be the receivers. Tonight kittle's, Out they've got a rookie left.
Guard they've Got Mac jones, starting but he's won two
games for them. Already SO i, mean The niners are
they're just a mass unit right. Now but you, know
it's The National Football, league and anything had. Happened, meanwhile
the you, know The rams look. GREAT i, mean The
rams are definitely A Super bowl. Contender we were talking
(28:43):
in our meeting last night about the. Offense you've Got,
Stafford you've Got Kyrien, williams one of the best backs
in the. League Poka nakua is over the. MOON i,
mean this guy is. Phenomenal they Got Devonte. Adams higbee
is a tight. End he's out. Tonight they, built you,
know they built their team dan around the defensive. Line
(29:03):
what they've done with that defensive line with The verse
And fish and the other guys that they brought in and.
Drafted they did what The niners did in the late
nineties With John lynch And excoose me nothing that the late,
nineties but like in the late teens in twenty eighteen
nineteen in that, area they went to Two Super bowls
(29:23):
by building that defensive line around both and the other.
Guys now they have none of those, guys and The
rams have morphed into what the forty nine ers became
on the defensive.
Speaker 10 (29:33):
Front SO i mean The rams are a full full
Of Super bowl.
Speaker 2 (29:37):
Contender any problem With Tom brady being in meetings with
teams as a minority owner of The, Raiders.
Speaker 13 (29:44):
Not, Really, NO i mean you could get all the
information you need without necessarily being in those.
Speaker 10 (29:51):
Meetings, NO i have no problem with it at.
Speaker 2 (29:53):
All, ever been told something in the meeting that you
wondered if it was. True oh, yeah a, Lot but
that was in the early.
Speaker 10 (30:04):
Days now the guys are much.
Speaker 13 (30:05):
Better but my favorite Meeting Mike, marrits he's coaching The
rams when they were In Saint louis and around not
two thousand and two or. Three it's A monday night
game and we're in there and And mike says to, us,
hey off the, record and he tells us. Something AND
i have The Saint Louis post dispatch on the desk
in front of. ME i, Said, mike here it. Is
it's on the front page.
Speaker 10 (30:26):
Of The Sport.
Speaker 3 (30:26):
Session off the. Record it became on.
Speaker 10 (30:32):
The record while we were sitting here at this. Meeting. Yeah,
now most most of the.
Speaker 13 (30:38):
Meetings, look the coaches understanding, now especially the younger, guys
and they, understand you, know how to deal with the,
media had to deal with the you, know with the broadcast.
Speaker 10 (30:48):
Folks we were. Talking it's.
Speaker 13 (30:49):
Funny we were talking To Kyle shanahan yesterday on The
zoom And kyle was talking, about you, know every press
conference now is you, know how's this guy has that?
Speaker 3 (30:57):
Guy is it a?
Speaker 13 (30:57):
Ligament is it, attendant what is? It and so all
of a sudden he, says you, KNOW i didn't go
to medical. School i'm answering all these, questions which reminded
me of one of my favorite, Stories Doc, rivers who
was my partner on THE nba back twenty years. Ago
And doc was coaching The, celtics like in the eight
to nine, area AND i Think Paul pierce had gotten
hurt in a playoff. Game so the first five questions
(31:18):
are About. Pierce how long is he out? For is
it an acl is it a? Ligament what is? It
blah blah blah blah. Blah so after five or six,
Questions doc finally looks down at the guy and he, goes, hey,
Listen he, says.
Speaker 10 (31:29):
You do Know doc is a, nickname, Right so.
Speaker 3 (31:35):
Steak before or after the, game.
Speaker 13 (31:39):
You, know, tonight maybe a little a couple of, bikees
maybe at, halftime but you, Know i'll have like maybe
A i'll have a burger at the hotel BEFORE.
Speaker 10 (31:49):
I go over, there and then some candy corn during the.
Speaker 13 (31:52):
Game And junior mentioned and maybe maybe two or three
bites of a steak maybe tomorrow.
Speaker 10 (31:57):
Night tomorrow, night for, Sure Dan askana probably.
Speaker 3 (32:02):
Yeah maybe you can leave some scraps For herbie's.
Speaker 10 (32:05):
Dog herby's dog's already almost one hundred. Pounds he's just a.
Baby what's going on? Here crazy? Stuff?
Speaker 3 (32:14):
Man have fun. Tonight great to see you. Again thank
you about.
Speaker 10 (32:17):
It always always. Great, Dan take him, in, Oh.
Speaker 1 (32:20):
Michaels Fox Sports radio has the best sports talk lineup
in the. Nation catch all of our shows At Foxsports
radio dot com and within The iHeartRadio app SEARCH fsr
to listen.
Speaker 3 (32:31):
Live it was almost.
Speaker 2 (32:33):
Fourteen years ago that we Had Charlie sheen on and
he was going through some negotiations with two and a
half men AND cbs and he had gotten suspended AND
i saw him doing.
Speaker 3 (32:46):
It an interview was he was giving a lecture or.
Speaker 2 (32:52):
Tips he was taking batting practice with THE ucla baseball,
team and his words of advice, were don't do, crack
drink chocolate. Milk AND i, SAID pauli reach out and
see If charlie wants to join.
Speaker 3 (33:04):
Us and really that's all we were going to. Do
we were just going to talk about.
Speaker 2 (33:07):
That BUT i want to play a portion of that
conversation THAT i had with, him and this was on
not being allowed on the lot AT cbs for two
and a half?
Speaker 3 (33:20):
Men how'd you lose your?
Speaker 10 (33:22):
Voice?
Speaker 9 (33:22):
WELL i went back to, work and you KNOW i
WAS i was banging on the stay's. Door, allow where's every?
Money AND i don't know what. HAPPENED i guess they're.
Speaker 3 (33:31):
Closed they won't let you back.
Speaker 10 (33:34):
IN i. Died nobody told.
Speaker 9 (33:37):
Me nobody told. ME i just figured OUT i was
supposed to go back to work Because i'm.
Speaker 11 (33:40):
Ready, wait you're on.
Speaker 3 (33:41):
Hiatus, no we're unforced.
Speaker 9 (33:44):
Datus they said you get, ready we'll get, ready AND
i got ready and went. Back nobody's, there Don't i'll
tell you that nobody's.
Speaker 2 (33:49):
There, well, wait how do they tell you you're the
star of two and a half? Men so do you
who decides when you get to you can't do one
and a half?
Speaker 9 (33:56):
Man, No and that was clearly revealed when they had
to bring me back this.
Speaker 10 (34:02):
Year you, KNOW i don't know what to.
Speaker 9 (34:04):
Telliament i'm Just i'm here And i'm. Ready they're not maring.
Speaker 3 (34:07):
It you, know when are you scheduled to start shooting?
Speaker 9 (34:10):
AGAIN i Believe august of twenty fourteen at this, SPACE
i don't. Know it's supposed to be like the twenty
eighth or the twenty. Ninth that's what it, is the
twenty ninth of a non leap, year.
Speaker 2 (34:22):
All, Right so that was almost fourteen years, ago and
then all of a sudden it blew. Up after, That
charlie called, US i, think three consecutive, days and he
was clearly on.
Speaker 3 (34:33):
Something we didn't know exactly what was going.
Speaker 2 (34:36):
On he dropped the winning And Tiger, blood and then
he came out with A New York times bestselling, book
The book Of, sheen and His netflix documentary Aka Charlie.
Sheen SO i said To fritzie had time to Have
charlie back. On So i'm thinking, now we talked to
him a couple of days, ago AND i thought he
(34:56):
would give credit to us in the book or in
the document entery for the interviews that started all of,
this everything that happened to, him the falling, out getting,
fired whatever he was, smoking whoever he was, with everything
that he went. Through so my first question, was what
role did this show play in all of this?
Speaker 11 (35:19):
Mess what ROLE i mean this show that we're on right, now.
Speaker 3 (35:24):
My show twenty. Eleven when you called.
Speaker 11 (35:29):
Oh, interesting, INTERESTING i don't have any specific recollection of
any fallout or or any you, know positive response from.
It did it go sideways on your? Show it?
Speaker 13 (35:50):
Did?
Speaker 3 (35:50):
Yes?
Speaker 11 (35:51):
Yeah and were you personally put in the line of
fire or in any?
Speaker 2 (35:56):
Danger, no but you called in and then and you, said,
hey Ask dan WHERE i? Am and you were on
the outside of UH, Cbs, Chuck, lorie and then you
Were it exploded after that because you're basically, saying uh f,
This i'm off the, Show i'm out of.
Speaker 3 (36:17):
Here and then it went. Crazy, Wow so is?
Speaker 11 (36:20):
It was it LIKE i announced it with?
Speaker 9 (36:22):
You?
Speaker 3 (36:23):
Yeah? Interesting, wait you don't remember any of?
Speaker 9 (36:26):
THIS i.
Speaker 11 (36:29):
Don't do you have A do you have a clip
you can? PLAY i.
Speaker 2 (36:33):
CAN i can send you a clip to remind. You
but that's that's when you gave us winning and you
gave us tiger. Blood all of a, sudden the networks
are calling. Me they want me to go on these
shows to talk about you and.
Speaker 11 (36:48):
To ask like WHY i reached out to, you to
to send like my final message or or to light the.
Speaker 2 (36:55):
Lamp they couldn't get, you so they thought THAT i,
SAID i don't, Know, charlie but they wanted me to
speak on your. BEHALF i sent you a text and, Said,
hey all of these network shows and entertainment tonight they
want me. On i'm not going to go on and
speak on your, behalf just so you. Know and then then,
YOU i, think said F f. Them and THEN i
(37:17):
think you did, winning and then that was.
Speaker 11 (37:19):
It so wow, Wow, okay, Yeah i'm sorry THAT i
that was scrubbed from my.
Speaker 2 (37:28):
THOUGHT i thought there was going to be something in
the book about. IT i, thought, okay because they you,
know there is part of me that felt bad about. That,
oh because you were on three times in a, row
AND I i remember having a conversation with my, WIFE i,
SAID i feel Like i'm taking advantage Of charlie because
you were clearly a wounded. Animal, absolutely, yeah.
Speaker 11 (37:52):
BUT i THINK i would look at that more through
the lens of that that you THAT i saw you
as as as a safe, outlet THAT i saw you
as a.
Speaker 10 (38:03):
As a as a.
Speaker 11 (38:04):
CONFIDANT i COULD i, could you, KNOW i could reach
out to and and you, know deliver some type of
messages THAT i couldn't, elsewhere regardless of how insane that
message was at the.
Speaker 3 (38:16):
Time you, know but you were taking batting practice AT
U c L.
Speaker 2 (38:19):
A AND i saw this and you had a message
to the, team stay off crack and drink chocolate. Milk
and SO i said To fritzy and that is great,
advice thank. YOU i said, That, fritzy see if we
can Get charlie on. It and then that's when it.
Exploded but it started just because you were TAKING vp
(38:39):
and you were given giving a message TO Ucla.
Speaker 3 (38:42):
Baseball.
Speaker 11 (38:43):
Yeah, no that WAS i guess one of just the
last traces of of you, know a, healthy, uh you,
know a wholesome. Moment it's interesting Because Tony TODD i
think you Know tony, right he's In he's been in
my life for a thousand. Years lovely. Man he says
that in that specific group THAT i delivered because the coach, said,
(39:05):
hey go talk to the. GUYS i think they'd lost
the final game and we're a little bit. DOWN i
think it was the same core team members and he,
said go see if you can give.
Speaker 5 (39:16):
Him a pep.
Speaker 11 (39:16):
Talk and SO i was like trying to come up
with something on like the fifty foot, walk and that's
WHEN i, said don't smoke crack and you, know drink chocolate.
Milk it turned into A t. Shirt but he says
that That Trevor bauer was was in that in that
grouping That, yeah that the members THAT i you, know
(39:38):
shared that that wisdom with and there was a couple
others that that are now playing. Professionally so that's that's pretty.
Interesting so clearly they none of them smoked crack and
obviously kept drinking chocolate. Milk.
Speaker 3 (39:53):
Right tougher to write the book or do the, documentary.
Speaker 11 (39:59):
Write the, Book write the, book for, Sure, yeah because
the doc was a it was a it was. Difficult
the doc required uh so much research and and archival
and just you, know building the visual representation from all
the you, know all the materials for the whole backstory
(40:21):
and the and the. Journey so but the book was
was me, alone staring at a screen night after.
Speaker 10 (40:32):
Night you, know.
Speaker 3 (40:34):
Did you ever get mad at yourself while you're writing the?
Speaker 11 (40:36):
Book interesting, question madam myself for you, mean like on
a on a literary, level or for like writing for
the things that happened That i'm now That i'm now.
Sharing there were, Moments, yeah there there there were. Moments
(40:57):
it was exciting to to tell the, stories you, know you,
know for the first time how they actually. Happened but
it was also you, know there there was, moment there
were moments of reflection WHERE i was, like, wow, man
how did? It how did it go? There how did?
It you?
Speaker 10 (41:17):
Know where?
Speaker 2 (41:17):
Was?
Speaker 11 (41:18):
Uh where? WAS i don't want to, say, like you,
know where was someone to step in and and you,
know tap me on the shoulder and pulled the train
back into the. Station there weren't a few moments where
that that could have, happened AND i BUT i don't
know IF i would have been receptive to, it you,
know but, yeah, no the some of the anger did
come out of you, know telling these stories in detail
(41:40):
as they, occurred but still like it. Didn't this could
have been a three page chapter and not twenty five to.
Speaker 13 (41:47):
One you.
Speaker 3 (41:48):
Know is that your home where you are right?
Speaker 8 (41:50):
Now?
Speaker 11 (41:51):
Correct?
Speaker 3 (41:51):
Yeah do you have any of your?
Speaker 2 (41:53):
MEMORABILITY i remember you saying to you you knew you
had too much memorabilia when you had A Ted williams
away jersey something in your underwear.
Speaker 11 (42:01):
Drawer it was a forty one Road jersey about? That about?
That and back THEN i think they had like one
you know home yeah and one Road. Jersey, yeah, yeah,
yeah well it it was right next to my underwear.
Drawer It, uh there wasn't a case built yet for.
It i'd run out of wall and hallway, space you,
(42:24):
Know BUT i knew in that, moment YEAH i, HAVE i.
Have i've arrived at a place of. Hoarding and that's
not that's that's that's not. Good that helps no.
Speaker 3 (42:33):
One do you have any of that memorabilia? AROUND i.
Speaker 11 (42:37):
DON'T i. Don't you sold? BASEBALL i?
Speaker 10 (42:40):
Did.
Speaker 11 (42:40):
Yeah do you Remember Josh, Evans Josh Leland evans From
Leland's The Big. Auto, yeah, yeah, yeah he sadly passed
away like four or five years, ago and but he
he put together The jollyshene, auction but it didn't include
the rooth contract than The ruth's. RING i think that
(43:02):
was done separate of, that you, know or from.
Speaker 2 (43:05):
That any part of you ever wish you weren't an
actor or hadn't become an, Actor, yeah.
Speaker 11 (43:16):
Yeah there's been there's been moments Where i've had those.
Feelings i've had those thoughts and just tried to imagine
what any of it would have looked like without, that
because it kind of gave you a whole.
Speaker 2 (43:29):
Pass you were really good at your, craft but because
of that then opened doors and windows and you know,
everything but.
Speaker 11 (43:39):
Oh, yeah, no it was it was it was it
was you, know All access backstage and then some but it,
yeah but IT'S i, think you, know one of the
central themes of the book is that it's all about,
choices you, know and it's, Like i'll be out in
the world and people will, say you, know they'll see
(44:01):
like a lot of attention in photos and autographs stuff like,
that and they'll, say does.
Speaker 3 (44:04):
This ever bother?
Speaker 11 (44:04):
You AND i, said, well you, know IF, i IF
i don't want to be, bothered the solution to that
is don't leave your, house right and THEN I and
then the other side of that, is you, know you
worry about the day they stopped coming, up, Right so
just sort of on on the on on the choices of.
Front you, know All access is an amazing place to wind,
(44:27):
up but it just then it's it's on the person
to then navigate the stuff to embrace and the stuff
to not do that, with you, know AND i sort
of went for all of.
Speaker 13 (44:41):
It you.
Speaker 3 (44:41):
Know was there an actor who outpartied you.
Speaker 11 (44:49):
That's still, Alive, well.
Speaker 2 (44:54):
They hopefully they're not dead because of out partying, you
but right, right right, music or an actor who out partied,
YOU i.
Speaker 11 (45:03):
Think there would there would more likely be a rock.
Star you mean. THAT i actually saw that with my own. Eyes,
yeah we partied together AND i had to you tabbed it.
OUT i called it a, night and he kept. Going you,
know there was actually one. Guy there was one, guy
and it's just it sucks because you know he ultimately
(45:26):
got clean and then died in a freaking car crash
outside Of. Vegas and that Was Sam. Kennison sam would you.
COULDN'T i couldn't keep up with, him you. Know it Was,

The closest example would be two and a half. MEN
i know you said, Film, yeah but THAT'S i THINK
i think that's the one that that really borrowed from
just a lot of but it borrowed from the fun,
stuff didn't borrow from the dangerous crazy. Stuff you.

Know how do you apologize? When or do you or
can you? Apologize?
Speaker 11 (46:44):
Yeah and this is not trying to be, cute but
hopefully and most of the time in, person in, person
and and it's it's. FUNNY i was just talking to
buddy of mine about this just the other day, that,
uh AND i told him that we can't insist we
(47:08):
we can't determine other people's timelines for them to come
to a, place, uh to to be, receptive to be
open to that to that, message you.

that that that that's already taken, place and it's an ongoing,
process you.

Dad stuff is heartbreaking because your your. Dad he loved,
you but he couldn't he couldn't get. You and uh

can't really do anything about.

he in? It? Right and he watched a rough cut
of the first episode and he was over the moon
about it and super, supportive and he, was, yeah he's
honored and flattered you know how we included. Him and he, said,
Look I'm i'm already in it THAT i DON'T i
(48:38):
don't need, to you, know give, it give you, know
today's commentary on all that. Stuff it's it's it's better
telling the story like, that.
Speaker 3 (48:46):
You, know more likely to do a sequel To Major
league Or Wall street.
Speaker 11 (48:54):
Major league Major.
Speaker 9 (48:55):

out out over my skis with, this but there has
been a dialogue about it.

Speaker 3 (49:13):
Script in the making here or an idea for.
Speaker 11 (49:16):
No but there's there's there's a new there's a company
involved that is that is very interested That i'm already
in business with with The, docs and that's that that
could deliver SOMETHING i think the fans have been waiting
for for a long. Time and and don't, Worry i'm
not going to be a. PLAYER i would show up
in the in the capacity of coach or manager or
(49:38):
or you, know a pitching coach or. Something but now it's,
