Speaker 1 (00:00):
You are listening to the Dan Patrick Show on Fox
Sports Radio hour two on.
Speaker 2 (00:05):
A strange Thursday. Football coming up tonight. A lot of
great basketball performances from last night, but the lead story
has to do with the FBI and the arrest of
the Blazers head coach Chauncey Billups. Also, Terry Rogier plays
for the Miami Heat and they're gambling charges here. The
FBI holding a press conference as we speak, so we
(00:27):
will learn more this hour eight seven to seven three

you for downloading the app. We say good morning to
our radio affiliates around the country. Fritzy's here, Seaton's here,

t shirt. It's only available for maybe this week. Seaton said,
maybe we could extend it for next week because the
Browns should win their game against the Jets. So when
the Browns lose, that's when we take down the Flacco
Round T shirt where the Bengals.
Speaker 3 (01:05):
When the right.
Speaker 4 (01:07):
When the Bengals lose, yeah, we all lose, Okay, that's
when we take the shirt down, It'll stay up for
as long as they're winning.
Speaker 3 (01:13):
Okay, that's right. He is with the Bengal.
Speaker 5 (01:16):
Because that's as long as people are.
Speaker 4 (01:19):
Flack flacking around, Flaco Flack goal flacking around and finding out.
Speaker 2 (01:24):
Stat of the day brought to you by Panini America.
The official trading cards of the Dan Patrick Show. Cleveland
Browns are in the news because there was a story
or stories yesterday at Kevin Stefanski, the Browns head coach,
was asked, is you know Dean sanders son Shadoor getting
some opportunities with the first team getting some first team reps?
(01:46):
Because after all, you know, he would be a hit
away from Dylan Gabriel of getting in the game. And
Stefanski said no, that he was not getting first team reps.
So once again, the media's obsession with Shadoor Sanders getting
playing time is interesting because has anybody asked the question
to the Tennessee Titans about their backup quarterback getting any reps?
(02:10):
Because your rookie quarterback, number one pick hasn't been playing
very well. I think it's Brandon Allen might be the
backup quarterback. Is anybody asked that is anybody asking if
the backup to Jackson Dark is getting any reps with
the first team. The media is obsessed with this with
Shadoor Sanders, Dylan Gabriel is played, Okay, he's play. Okay,
(02:37):
that doesn't mean you've got to put in Shador. I
hope Chador gets an opportunity, but I hope it's not
one of those let's, you know, do him a solid
and have him play. Dylan Gabriel is a better quarterback
right now than Shador Sanders. It's plain and simple. Not
many fifth round draft picks get this kind of attention.
And granted it has to do with Dion and you know,
(02:59):
assorts with the Brown said, well, do you think if
his name Wasn't last name wasn't Sanders, would he have
been drafted higher? Would he have been given this opportunity?
I said, I don't obsess over this. I mean we
had Dion on at the Super Bowl and he was
telling us basically he was going to try to manipulate
the draft. He was going to say, don't draft my son.
(03:22):
My son doesn't want to go play for you. And
then did that lead to him falling the free falling
I'm going to guess some of that. People looked at
his tape didn't think you know that he the way
he played, held on to the ball, he led to
a lot of sacks that. Yes, did he play well
Jackson State and Colorado. Yes, I put him third on
(03:42):
my Heisman ballot. That's how much I thought of him.
But I want to see if they have something. You know,
here's another thing nobody's talking about because they don't want
to talk about it. Deshaun Watson's going to be back
this year. I believe in Cleveland, Deshaun Watson could return
to being the starting quarterback with Cleveland. Let that sink in.
(04:07):
So this isn't just about Dylan Gabriel should do or Sanders.
I don't know if either our starting quarterbacks franchise quarterbacks.
I hope they get the opportunity because next year, with
two first round picks, maybe you use those picks, one
of those picks moving up in the draft, or maybe
you take a quarterback. But Deshaun Watson, from what I'm told,
(04:29):
is at least in the picture for the Browns this season.
Late in the season, but I don't think anybody is
asking if the Titans, you know, backup quarterback is getting
first team reps. I don't think so. I mean we
talk about with Tua too as a hit.
Speaker 3 (04:46):
Away.
Speaker 2 (04:47):
Is anybody saying, hey, is Quinn yours getting reps?
Speaker 6 (04:49):
With it?
Speaker 2 (04:50):
For see, it's we pick and choose and it's unfortunate
and then you're kind of forcing this story.
Speaker 3 (04:58):
That's what we do.
Speaker 7 (05:00):
Yeah, Pauline, I saw the Stefanski clip, the Browns head
coach talking about it. He was asked, why you know
when Dylan Gabriel was a backup he got first team
reps when Joe Flack was a starter. He said, The
difference is Dylan Gabriel is a young quarterback who needs
every starting rep in practice, and that's why Shure Door
Sanders doesn't get him.
Speaker 3 (05:17):
That's the difference.
Speaker 7 (05:18):
Any chance that the Browns somehow play Deshaun Watson later
in the season to showcase him.
Speaker 2 (05:24):
Oh, I don't think anybody's going to trade for him, right,
I mean that's we've seen a lot of reclamation projects.
You know, Michael Vick was in a dog ring killing
dogs and found a landing in Philadelphia. So you can't
say no, that'll never happen. I can't imagine a team
going you know, you know who are missy ingreetent is
(05:45):
Deshaun Watson. That's the guy we won as our franchise quarterback.
But nobody's saying anything about cam Ward's backup, are they?
And he hasn't played well at all, got roughed up
this last game, but nobody's saying, Man, is it Brandon Allen?
Speaker 3 (06:02):
Is he like an A and M quarterback?
Speaker 2 (06:04):
He's been around, But I don't nobody's saying anything Jackson
darts back up?
Speaker 3 (06:09):
Is anybody bringing up Jackson?
Speaker 6 (06:11):
You know?
Speaker 2 (06:11):
Is hey, just Jameis Winston? Get any reps here since
you probably won't be playing Russell Wilson. Nobody's saying any
of those things.
Speaker 3 (06:20):
Yes.
Speaker 7 (06:21):
By the way, DeShawn Watson is making forty six million
this year with the Browns and for sure forty six
million next year with the Browns.
Speaker 2 (06:27):
Yeah, yeah, we just we're so desperate for this story
to happen and see what he can do. All I
can tell you is from what I was told, and
I've been told that he has handled himself well.
Speaker 3 (06:39):
He did have the speeding ticket.
Speaker 2 (06:42):
I would never let my backup or third string quarterback
meet with the media. I don't know why the Browns
have allowed that. You don't find that with any other team.
Speaker 3 (06:52):
I don't think.
Speaker 2 (06:54):
I mean, Russ had a comment, but that was social
media comment about Sean Payton. By the way, Sean Payton
held a press conference and he said that he wasn't
taking a shot at Russell Wilson.
Speaker 8 (07:05):
The euphoria, the way that game unfolded, that was strictly
about dark. That was in no way, shape or form
anything that was directed at Russ. So and I might
be able to see how he might perceive that, but
coming off that win and watching how he played, Yeah,
that that wasn't any intention at all.
Speaker 2 (07:27):
Okay, come on, okay, let's let's go around the room.
Speaker 3 (07:34):
Todd, Well, that's your head, coach.
Speaker 2 (07:35):
I'm not going to you. Seaton, do you agree with
Sean Payton. This was not a shot at Russell Wilson Junior,
the third No, I do all right, Marvin, No, Paulie.
Speaker 7 (07:46):
No, It's possible as subconscious by him, but it was
still conscious.
Speaker 2 (07:50):
Yeah, like I can wink at this like okay, but.
Speaker 4 (07:57):
So like coach, so let's follow this threat. It was
about Jackson Dart because the backup dot dot dot is worse.
That's what you're saying, you're saying the backup is that
week is worse. Who is that?
Speaker 3 (08:10):
Yeah, Oh that's right. It's the guy that I used
to coach. Oh, I see what you're doing.
Speaker 5 (08:16):
Oh that's why you guys think I mean.
Speaker 4 (08:18):
Oh no, that's not You guys think immediate twists everything.
Speaker 2 (08:25):
You guys take it out of context. Always take it
out of context. All right, let's see poll question for
hour two. Jason Garrett, the contributor analyst to Football Night
in America, will join us.
Speaker 3 (08:38):
Coming up, Vikings and the Chargers.
Speaker 2 (08:41):
Oh man, the JJ McCarthy situation not getting any better.
Carson Wentz, come on down, play again. This is a
It's not my most must win game of the weekend,
but it's up there with the Chargers. Like this is
the most must win game of the week, not the weekend,
because Thursday night at home, you got to win this game.
Speaker 3 (09:05):
You guys have been sputtering.
Speaker 2 (09:06):
We thought this was the new and improved version of
the Chargers and and we haven't seen that. So whole
question for hour two is what seedon? Yes, we have
up there right now.
Speaker 4 (09:16):
More Unicorny, Victor Wembanyama or shohe Otani show he is
running away with this one.
Speaker 5 (09:23):
I really disagree strongly.
Speaker 3 (09:26):
Yeah, now I'm gonna go with with show.
Speaker 4 (09:29):
Hey, yeah, I get it, you just have It's like
dude's like what seven six or seven four whatever it is.
It's got handles like crazy shoots from outside. He's like
blocks shots. He'll block a three pointer from under the hoop, Like,
who does that?
Speaker 5 (09:44):
Nobody? Nobody does that?
Speaker 3 (09:46):
No body, buddy.
Speaker 4 (09:48):
I strongly disagree with this. Seventy five percent have show. Hey,
uh David in Phoenix, Good morning, David.
Speaker 3 (09:55):
What's on your mind today?
Speaker 9 (09:57):
Hey, good morning. I've been stup House of David on
Netflix and it made me think, is there a bigger
upset in competition than David versus Goliath? And that makes
me think of a pool question. Biggest upsets of course
Douglas over Tyson, miracle on ice, Leicester City went in
(10:22):
the Premier League, and of course David over Goliath.
Speaker 3 (10:26):
All right, well, thank you David.
Speaker 2 (10:29):
I don't know what the point spread was when David
met Goliath, but I'm going to guess that Goliath was
a pretty big favorite there.
Speaker 4 (10:38):
Yeah, the Philistine sports books glath was a heavy favorite.
Speaker 2 (10:41):
But they're they're begging you to take the David money
begging you. This felt like the Jets against the Colts
and Super Bowl three. People just didn't do their homework
on David, just like they didn't do their homework on
the Jets. They dismissed them. Nobody's going to stand up
to the big bad Baltimore Colts Johnny Unitas.
Speaker 7 (10:58):
Yes, Molly, David a little bush league throwing a rock.
That's a little bit of a cheap shot. Use your fist,
use a hammer or whatever.
Speaker 4 (11:06):
Show me where it was in the rules, Yeah, show
me in the rule book where he said he couldn't.
Speaker 3 (11:10):
I'm looking. This was UFC before UFC.
Speaker 4 (11:12):
Oh really, yes, it was sort of the Bill Belichick
really of street fighting because he found loopholes.
Speaker 5 (11:18):
Oh there's no written rule, no written rule.
Speaker 2 (11:20):
Yeah, yeah, who said Yeah? Bill was always scouring the
rule book there looking for a loophole. And I think
David did that with Cliath. And I'm going to say this,
I can say it now. I think Goliath might have
been on performance dancing drugs to get that big Yeah,
I'm just saying.
Speaker 3 (11:37):
I'm just say it now. I think that there may
have been some clear and cream. You can't just throw
that out there like that without a couple of sources.
Speaker 2 (11:43):
I do have a couple of sources responsible from back
in the day. You know, Moses was a great source
for me. Yeah, like he had more than ten commandments,
but he's.
Speaker 5 (11:56):
A great source for assault in Yes, he he's a
great source.
Speaker 2 (11:59):
For He had more than ten commandments. Now nobody knows,
but he tripped and he lost a few of them.
And they're like, look I got ten. Wait, I thought
you had twenty, No, just ten. Tom in North Carolina,
Hi Tom, welcome back.
Speaker 10 (12:20):
Hey DP. I know you said since the very beginning
of this sports game and stuff, we've only scratched the surface.
And the reason why I'm calling is I saw a
I saw an article. It was showing about the Robin
Hood company, the trade company is doing and what they
(12:41):
call an event contract, basically allowing you to buy something
maybe you want to buy, you know, the Chiefs winning
the Super Bowl or whatever, you know, back and forth there.
And I say that because it's actually allowed in all
fifty states. So I'm wondering if the FBI is actually
to get in some of these people. Are you seeing
(13:02):
are you going to see somebody's card with you know
one hundred shares of Applestock and a Victor wimbin Yama.
You know, MVP card I don't.
Speaker 2 (13:12):
I don't know enough about it, Tom, I don't. I
am following. You know, Vegas police is Vegas because it
has to. That's that's their livelihood, that's how they make
their money. But when it's offshore, when it's illegal booking,
they can't follow that. Now they can follow the trends, uh,
you know DraftKings and FanDuel. You can follow trends. But
(13:36):
you know, there's so much money that's bett illegally. I
think everybody thought, oh, it's going to be above board.
Speaker 3 (13:42):
It's not.
Speaker 2 (13:44):
And it's not like I'm not worried about Vegas. Vegas
will find these things. They have to find these things.
Their income depends on this. It's the other stuff. It's
the other stuff that maybe you don't realize. And that's
what makes me nervous is you could still get to a.
Speaker 3 (14:02):
College kid.
Speaker 2 (14:05):
And you get to the guy who doesn't have NIOL
but the guy who thinks he should have NIL, and
you say, hey, if you fix this game, I'm gonna
give you twenty five thousand dollars. Now you say Nah,
who's gonna fix a game. They fix games for a
lot less than that because nobody thinks they'll get caught.
That's why they do it. If you thought you were
(14:27):
gonna get caught, then you wouldn't do it.
Speaker 3 (14:29):
So you're like, well, who's going to care.
Speaker 2 (14:30):
About Duquanne basketball or Temple basketball? No accusations, by the way,
but I'm just throwing out random schools. Nobody's eh, nobody's
gonna know if I'm shaving points here, you know, just
like Michael Porter's brother, he's probably thinking, I'm a bench
player in Toronto. Nobody's gonna know pick up some money.
(14:53):
But those things stand out. They are looking for these things.
When you'll see a game taking off the board and
then you go, wait, what happened. Well, they probably look at,
you know, some activity that looks sound shady and they go, no,
we're going to take it off the board. Because there
are times when I remember I was going to bet
(15:14):
on something and i was getting ten. Then all of
a sudden, I'm getting four, and I'm like, and then
my book, he took it off the board, And it
turns out that there was an injury to the quarterback
that I didn't know about you know, we didn't have
Schefty back. Then they're like, I'm going to take that game.
Wait a minute, where'd my points go? Well, the other
(15:37):
quarterback wasn't playing, and then you know they took it
off the board. All right, we'll talk some football with
Jason Garrett. He'll join us coming up next. Keeping an
eye on the FBI press conference with Chauncey Billups and
Terry Rogier and then Damon Jones. Didn't he play Miami Heats?
That sound right, Marvin A little bit now. Terry Rozier
(15:58):
is a member of the Miami Heat and he's involved
in this. He did not play last night. I don't
think did he? And Portland played last night. So Chauncey
did Chauncey coach last night for the Blazers. I think
he did, didn't he?
Speaker 10 (16:15):
Oh? Yeah?
Speaker 2 (16:17):
Once again, this is in the NBA. It's the FBI
investigating these players. All right, we'll take a break. We're
back after this Dan Patrick Show.

More phone calls coming up once again.
Speaker 2 (17:06):
We're monitoring the FBI with their press conference that started
a little over twenty minutes ago, and I think they're
close to thirty people, not necessarily athletes or coaches who
are involved in some kind of gambling probe with the FBI,
but the headliners of course, Chauncey Billups, he's the head
coach of the Blazers. Terry Rozier, a journeyman who plays
(17:28):
for the Miami Heat. And Damon Jones, who I don't
think is in the NBA anymore. He bounced around a lot,
but he was with the Miami Heat as well. We
got football coming up tonight. We got the Vikings and
the Chargers. Jason Garrett of the NBC Football Night in
America Crew, former Cowboys head coach and Football Night in
(17:49):
America Packers Steelers. That'll be on Sunday night. We'll talk
to coach about that. How do you assess the Chargers
from what we saw early to we are now?
Speaker 6 (18:00):
Jason, You know, it's disappointing, but I think a lot
of it has to do with injuries, and I don't
want to make it about that, but you know, they
built their team to be really strong and stout on
the offense and defensive lines, and you know, you think
about both their tackles being out. I just think it
takes away so much of their identity and how they
want to play. You know, it's a long year. There's
(18:23):
going to be some ups and downs, and I think
for them the biggest thing is to kind of fight
through this and come out the other side of it,
because I think there's plenty there. I think they still
have a really good defense. I love the quarterback. I
love how the quarterback has to me, has stepped up
more in some bigger moments and kind of put the
team on his back.
Speaker 12 (18:41):
You know, I said this.
Speaker 6 (18:43):
We had a conversation about this as the Hall of
Fame game, and you know, there was debate about how
good Justin Herbert is, and you know, my comment is,
at some point you have to reach into the chest
of the guys on your team and grab their hearts
and bring them with you.
Speaker 12 (18:59):
And to me, he has everything.
Speaker 6 (19:02):
He's incredibly talented guy, obviously athletically, his arm. I think
he's a rare guy too, his preparation and all of that,
and I think he's taking that next step. So they
just have to get through this time with their guys
being out and come out at the other end.
Speaker 12 (19:19):
I think they're still going to be there in the
end of it.
Speaker 3 (19:22):
We've seen this now.
Speaker 2 (19:24):
It's almost like if you don't make it as a
high first round pick at quarterback, you're going to get
kicked to the curb. You're gonna bounce around as a backup.
Then all of a sudden you re emerge. So Daniel
Jones and Sam Darnold both didn't make it in New
York and here they are thriving with different places. And
I'm curious about that separation from first couple of years
(19:45):
to then you get into your later twenties that you
somehow figure it out. You know, Baker Mayfield, when he
started to getting kicked around to now and later in
his twenties figuring it out. What is it about that
position that some guys may not get it early but
they eventually get it later.
Speaker 12 (20:03):
You know, I think there are two things. Let's start
with the environment that were playing in at the outset.
Speaker 6 (20:09):
You know, typically these guys who get picked high or
going to bad teams, and you know, I can remember
for years we had this, there was a debate about
how do you make the environment more quarterback friendly for Romo.
Speaker 12 (20:20):
Well, we drafted Tyron Smith, Travis Frederick, and Zach Martin.
You know, it was it was as simple as that.
Speaker 6 (20:27):
And Tony had his best year the year that we
drafted Zach Martin because we ran the heck out of
the ball we had.
Speaker 12 (20:32):
You know, DeMarco Murray led the league in rushing.
Speaker 6 (20:34):
Tony was incredibly efficient and that's and that's how the
whole thing goes. So you know, when you're in those
hard environments and you're learning how to play, it's a
bad combination. So I think it was as quickly as
you can get the environment right for those guys, and
typically it starts up front for me, you know, control
(20:54):
the line of scrimmage, don't have them running for their
lives and make good picks. You got to pick the
right guy when you do that, and then you know,
those guys learn as they go. They're in a good place.
They don't have to do everything. You know, burden is
a big thing in football. If you can spread the
burden around one part of your team or one guy,
and your team doesn't have to win for you every week.
Speaker 12 (21:17):
That's what the best teams have.
Speaker 6 (21:19):
So typically of those guys when they're young, they're carrying
too much burden. The environment's not very good, and then
people sur on them, particularly in places like New York
where there's high scrutiny. So I think the biggest thing
for them was to get a reset and then go
to a better place. Tampa is a better team than
Cleveland was, where Carolina was. Indianapolis is a better team
(21:39):
than the Giants were for Daniel. So those guys get
a chance to settle in. They have their scars, they've learned,
but they're also in a better place.
Speaker 2 (21:48):
I'm also you know, you being a former coach and
a quarterback, we talk about reps for backups. You know
that Shardoor Sanders not getting first team reps and Dylan
Gabriel is a hit way from shud Or coming in.
Did people ask you about Troy Aikman's backup? Does he
get reps with the first team with the Cowboys?
Speaker 12 (22:10):
He doesn't. He doesn't, And I live that.
Speaker 6 (22:15):
You know, I was the third quarterback there for a while,
but I was also the backup there too, And you
just don't get reps. You know, the starters get the reps,
you get the scout team stuff. You know, maybe you
get a little something different. Coaches will give you ten
plays on Friday, or they'll give you two plays at
the end of a twenty play set or whatever.
Speaker 12 (22:33):
But you know, I learned early on. You know, I
would complain to myself, like, how am I supposed to play?
Speaker 10 (22:38):
Well?
Speaker 12 (22:39):
I never get any reps.
Speaker 6 (22:40):
And then you realize that, you know, if you can't
function in this environment, they're going to find someone who can.
So you better develop a relief pitcher mentality and you
better figure out how to do it. And so the
way I did it was you spend so much time
watching film, so much time knowing the plan inside and out.
Speaker 12 (22:59):
You know, I would drive around.
Speaker 6 (23:00):
When I'd be driving home, I turn the radio off,
and I'd call plays out loud, right, I mean literally,
you do everything you can to create reps for yourself
to get yourself ready to go. And you know, i'd
throw after practice and you're always doing stuff because you're
standing on the sideline, and I would used to call
the plays in and the quarterback gets hurt and you
(23:23):
put the headset down and it's like, okay, you go
from zero to one hundred miles an hour. But you know,
the question is do those three or four, five or
ten reps during the week. Is that what allows you
to play well? Is it better to have the guy
who's playing all those snaps anyway, take those and then
you just have to have a relief pitcher's mentality to
(23:44):
go in and function.
Speaker 12 (23:45):
And you know, so it's a tricky thing.
Speaker 6 (23:48):
But you know, Troy Aikman, who's a first ballot Hall
of Famer, he got all the reps, and so I
think if you're Dylan Gabriel, he probably deserves all the
reps too, because he's got a lot of catching up
to do.
Speaker 3 (23:58):
Now give me it. For instance, you're driving home, you
turn off the radio and then what are you yelling at?
Speaker 6 (24:04):
Yeah, I mean literally you're saying out loud, Okay, this
is bunch right, motor scout right five to twenty five
up post right.
Speaker 12 (24:10):
I mean that's what you're saying.
Speaker 2 (24:12):
And can you imagine being in the car next to
you and they're watching you by shouting out the hand
signals the whole thing.
Speaker 6 (24:21):
Yeah, I can't tell you the number of times it happened,
like who what is this doing? But you know, yeah,
you have to steal reps anyway you can. And one
thing a little bit of a different topic. You know,
when I became the head coach in Dallas, there was
this virtual reality thing that became available to us and
we had it for a while. And the reason we
(24:42):
had it was probably because of my experience as a
backup quarterback never getting reps. And we created a virtual
reality room where backup quarterbacks could go in there and
go through Essentially they.
Speaker 12 (24:57):
Were hearing the play from the coach going to the
line of scrimmage.
Speaker 6 (25:00):
You could look left, you could look right, there's Dez
Brian over, here's here's Jason Whitten.
Speaker 12 (25:04):
I mean, it was it was a real thing, and
for me, I thought it was invaluable. Not for the starter.
The starter is getting all those rests. But the guy
who doesn't get the work.
Speaker 6 (25:14):
And I know jayde Daniels has done a lot of
work with this, but I think that's a real thing
and that's something can really help people going forward.
Speaker 3 (25:20):
Wait a minute, so I go into a room, Do
I have to put on glasses?
Speaker 10 (25:24):
You do?
Speaker 2 (25:26):
And I'm now the defense isn't going to hit me,
but how are they moving? So I know where I'm
going to, like my hot receiver going through progressions. How
much time do I have to do this?
Speaker 6 (25:37):
Well, we had all these crazy cameras at practice, and
these three hundred and sixty degree cameras that they made up,
and you would have it like fifteen yards behind the
ball and everybody you had to stay away from the camera.
But literally you would hear the offensive coordinator call to play,
go in the huddle, walk up to the line, and
you could do this and this with these with these
(25:59):
heads that's on and literally there's des Brian. It's not
an image of Dez Brian, that's him right there. And
you see the safety creeping down and you see the
strong dog pressure coming over here, and to me, I
would go in there. Afterwards, I'm like, this is incredible.
I mean, I love the idea of it because, like
I said, I was the guy that was on the
highway calling out the place right, So I think it's
(26:23):
the way of the future myself.
Speaker 2 (26:25):
Jason Garrett, NBC Football Night in America's studio analyst Sunday Night,
it'll be the Packers at the Steelers.
Speaker 3 (26:32):
Which team do you have a better handle on with
these two?
Speaker 12 (26:37):
Oh, that's a great question.
Speaker 6 (26:39):
That's why you get paid the money, Dan Patrick, because
I think there's questions about the handle of each of them.
Speaker 12 (26:47):
You know, I think Pittsburgh, I think you have to.
Speaker 6 (26:50):
Feel good about what they've done with Aaron Rodgers playing there,
He's played at a high level for them.
Speaker 12 (26:55):
They've done a.
Speaker 6 (26:55):
Good job offensively. The defense where they made a huge investment,
that's a concern. I mean, Joe Flacco had been a
Cincinnati Bengal for about a week. He went down there
and he looked like you know, Kenny Anderson and and
you know Boomersias and wrapped in one. I mean, he
was fantastic. So some question marks about Pittsburgh. Their ability
(27:18):
to defend the pass really comes up. So I have
concerns there. Green Bay, they've just been a little up
and down. They've They've had some ugly wins. I really
like their team. I like their defense. I think Hafley
has done an excellent job. You know, Michael Parsons has
been so impactful, you know, opening things up for other guys.
Speaker 12 (27:37):
But then in the big moments the other day he.
Speaker 6 (27:39):
Had three sacks, So I think you're starting to see
that thing mesh a little bit.
Speaker 12 (27:44):
I love Jordan Love.
Speaker 6 (27:45):
I think he's still getting to a point where he
needs to be a consistent player week in and week
out for them, And I think a big part of
that is them, you know, making Josh Jacobs.
Speaker 12 (27:56):
A part of it.
Speaker 6 (27:57):
So again he doesn't have too much burdens, so they
both been kind of fits and starts. Green Bay went
a little bit ugly, Pittsburgh some question marks on their defense.
Speaker 12 (28:07):
In the end, I like green Bay's team more.
Speaker 3 (28:10):
The Chiefs look like a completely different team.
Speaker 2 (28:12):
Now you give Mahomes a couple of weapons in there,
Rashi Rice, you get Worthy back, they look like the
best team in the AFC.
Speaker 6 (28:24):
Well, we talk about this every week on Football Night
in America, and when the Chiefs are struggling early on,
you know, everyone starts to get down on them. That's
the kind of world we live in. And my response
always is, have you guys been watching for the last decade?
Has anyone been watching this? I mean, this team is historic.
The coach is incredible, the quarterbacks incredible, the defense. You know,
(28:47):
they have these Hall of Fame players.
Speaker 12 (28:49):
So to me, it was just a matter of, you know,
they had some question marks on the offensive line. They're
still working through that.
Speaker 6 (28:55):
It's better the last couple of weeks, but you know,
getting their guys back, I think that's a big thing.
And Rashid Rice a couple of years ago, I'll never
forget this. I did the playoff game between Miami and
Kansas City, the freezing cold game up there in Kansas City,
and if you remember, Kansas City got shell ACKed.
Speaker 12 (29:15):
I think it was Christmas Day against the Raiders. They
were terrible.
Speaker 6 (29:20):
And it almost looked to me the following week that
they said, Okay, here's who we can trust. Can trust Mahomes,
I can trust Kelsey, I can trust Pacheco, and we
can trust for she Rice.
Speaker 12 (29:30):
Those are the only guys getting it. And that's what
they did.
Speaker 6 (29:33):
That's what they did in the playoffs, and they went
all the way to the super Bowl kind of taking
that approach. So it was like they sat down together
and said, this is the approach we need to take.
This is how we're going to win. And I feel
like they've done that again. And when they get these
pieces back, when Rashi Rice comes back, all of a sudden,
Hollywood Brown is a secondary player, Travis Kelcey is a
(29:55):
secondary player. You know Gray is a secondary or a
third player them, And so you get them back into
their slots and now they're really hard to stop because
Rashi Rice can handle the burden and they did a
great job getting him acclimated last week.
Speaker 2 (30:10):
Your Cowboys or your former team, that offense looks really good,
and Dak looks I've always said when Dak plays and
he's healthy, he plays well. It's just keeping him healthy.
But what do you make of did we underestimate the
Cowboys this year after the Mike Parsons situation.
Speaker 6 (30:30):
Well, I think if you look at the team, they're
set up to have success on offense. And like I
said about the Chiefs, the way I feel about Dak
just haven't been with him for a while. If anybody's
been watching football objectively without an agenda for the last
ten years. You say, this guy's a really good football player.
He's played well from his rookie year on and injuries
(30:52):
have been a factor for him. Playoff success has been
a factor to me. He played really well in the
playoffs early on. They haven't played quite as well in
recent years. But you know, this guy is a fantastic player.
So what they've done is three first round picks on
the offensive line. They have a very good tight end.
You know you pay Ceedee Lamb, he's one of the
(31:14):
best playmakers in the league. You have Pickens who to me,
Dak was going to do a great job getting him acclimated.
Javonte was someone who I love coming out. It was
just a question of is he back from the injury.
So there's a lot of weapons on that side of it.
So it doesn't surprise me that they've played well as
long as for the most part, the quarterback stays healthy.
(31:36):
The question was on defense, and even before the Micah
Parsons trade, I felt like they were under resourced on defense.
You know, who are the marquee guys and are they
really marquee guys? And I felt like Michaeh Parsons made
a lot of people on that defense way better. He
made the other rushers better, he made the cover guys better.
(31:58):
So you take him out of them to a defense
that I've felt needed help anyway, and you're probably seeing
what you thought you'd see. They're struggling to stop people.
It was better last week against Washington, but Washington's top
three receivers were out, so we'll find out more as
they go, but there's no doubt they're a juggernaut on
(32:19):
offense and the questions on defense are real.
Speaker 2 (32:21):
Great to talk to. You have fun on Sunday night.
Thank you again, Jason, You're the best. Jason Garrett, NBC
Football Night in America. And that'll be Sunday night. It'll
be the Packers at the Steelers kickoff A twenty eastern.
Speaker 3 (32:35):
All right, we'll take a break.
Speaker 2 (32:36):
Got a lot of phone calls once again, keeping an
eye on the FBI press conference involving, among others, Chauncey
Billups and Terry Rozier, a journeyman with the Miami Heat
with gambling allegations and still not sure Terry Rozier felt
like he was under investigation for NBA gambling, whereas Chauncey
Billups might have been for poker keeping on that uh
(33:01):
and we'll give you any answers that we have in
any guests that.
Speaker 3 (33:04):
Would be appropriate for this situation. We're back after this.
Speaker 1 (33:08):

Speaker 4 (33:22):
Pole results, Dan having an off air conversation. Oh, I'm
happy to give you the Pole results.
Speaker 2 (33:30):
Okay, stalling, installing or unicorny shoe hey Otani still has
seventy five percent of that vote. Okay, beating Victor wiman Yama.
I think people are grossly underappreciating how much of a
unicorn that Frenchman is.
Speaker 3 (33:46):
You're gonna die on that hill, aren't you.
Speaker 5 (33:49):
I don't know if I'm willing to give my life
for it, but I just don't agree with you.
Speaker 3 (33:54):
Okay.
Speaker 2 (33:55):
So some of the details here from the FBI the
press conference. The FB called out the mafia families, the
big Ones in New York Lukesey, Banano, Gambino Genovici, and
they were allegedly involved in backing rigged poker games to
scam victims out of hundreds of thousands of dollars. This
(34:16):
according to officials. Three of the more than thirty defendants
targeted in today's indictments allegedly involved in both sports betting
and fraudulent gambling scheme. This according to the FBI. During
the poker games in one of the alleged schemes, those
involved used technology such as poker chip tray analyzers and
(34:40):
X ray table that could read cards face down. On
the damn they could read the cards face down, according
to the prosecutors, victims allegedly cheated out of seven million
dollars in the poker's scheme. The FBI said that they
never take their eyes off the Italian organized crime families.
(35:06):
Uh so, I guess the NBA portion of this. Officials
dubbed the NBA gambling scheme operation nothing but net Oh
Boy one scheme Operation Royal Flood.
Speaker 5 (35:23):
Not in anyone we know is.
Speaker 3 (35:26):
Nothing but.
Speaker 2 (35:30):
Three of the defendants involved in both schemes. So fraudulent
poker games. Let's see, professional athletes allegedly used as face
cards to lure victims. So this is where they mentioned
Chauncey Billups. The so called face cards included Chauncey Billups,
(35:51):
who at the time of the scheme was a former
player now the current head coach of the Blazers, Damon Jones,
former NBA player, the victims of legedly referred to as
phish people, had no idea.
Speaker 3 (36:03):
Everybody else at the table was in on the scam.
Speaker 2 (36:07):
Once the game was underway, the defendants fleeced the victims
out of tens or hundreds of thousands of dollars per game.
The Mafia families allegedly fixed underground poker games.
Speaker 3 (36:22):
NBA betting. Six arrest have to do with NBA gambling.
Speaker 2 (36:31):
There's a whole lot here, but the mob reportedly involved
in the widespread spread gambling. This according to Cash Buttel
FBI director speaking at the press conference.
Speaker 3 (36:46):
Yeah, Paul, you can't believe in anything anymore.
Speaker 10 (36:48):
Dan.
Speaker 7 (36:48):
Remember when we were kids and the Mafia would hold
straight up poker games. You could go in there secure.
Speaker 4 (36:54):
Yeah, sad, I remember the good old days when the
Mafia was shaking down big organizations, not private poker games.
Speaker 10 (37:01):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (37:02):
Desperate times, falling on hard times, desperate times.
Speaker 10 (37:05):
Yeah.
Speaker 7 (37:06):
It's unclear from reading the NBC report if Chauncey Billups
is involved or responsible or a victim in this. They
were said they were using pro athletes to hook in
other people. Was he being used or was he part
of it? It's unclear what.
Speaker 3 (37:20):
Sounds like he was being used.
Speaker 2 (37:22):
Yeah, probably paid to bring in fish to have a
illegal poker game.
Speaker 5 (37:28):
That's messed up.
Speaker 2 (37:29):
And this might have to do with Gilbert Arenas when
he was arrested, you know, was it an illegal poker ring?
Speaker 3 (37:37):
And was the mob involved in this?
Speaker 2 (37:39):
Once again, I have a source on this, but I
I'm not going to be flippant in the information I
have because I haven't had somebody verify stuff that went
on with Gilbert Arenas with his poker situation there.
Speaker 3 (37:53):
But there's a lot going on here. Yeah see, Yeah, a.
Speaker 5 (37:59):
Lot going on there.
Speaker 7 (38:03):
You know we're saying is Chauncey Phillips was always a
lockdown defendant?
Speaker 3 (38:06):
Wow? Too soon?
Speaker 5 (38:09):
The conversation we've been having is should we make that
joke on hair?
Speaker 10 (38:12):
Yes? Or no?
Speaker 3 (38:13):
I felt good about it, nothing personal, No, No, I
thought it was a little too early for that.
Speaker 5 (38:18):
All I said is a lockdown defendant.
Speaker 3 (38:21):
Lockdown defended. I'm supposed to be a journalist here. This
is a ring.
Speaker 7 (38:31):
You don't want to be part of Oh, let's go
gambling humor. Come on, Fritz to get in there.
Speaker 3 (38:39):
No, don't. Oh, I'm sorry.
Speaker 2 (38:40):
No.
Speaker 1 (38:41):
Oh.
Speaker 2 (38:41):
By the way, so we have the Flacco around and
find out T shirt available until the Bengals lose.
Speaker 3 (38:47):
We also, I think have a I think we have
a Hole of Good T shirt ready to go to
I believe we do.
Speaker 2 (38:55):
Sources close to me tell me that for a limited
time up on the web site. I think this week
is going to be a Hall of Good T shirt?
Speaker 7 (39:04):
Yes, Pauling, can we send the first one to Joe Johnson,
the Godfather, the h OOVG.
Speaker 3 (39:09):
Do you think that he's going to appreciate being a
hale of Good? Nope, I don't know.
Speaker 8 (39:15):
I don't think so.
Speaker 3 (39:16):
Okay, Jamal Crawford was okay with it. Jordan in Utah,
Hi Jordan, what's on your mind?
Speaker 10 (39:24):
Hey Dan?
Speaker 13 (39:25):
How's it going?
Speaker 3 (39:26):
Great?
Speaker 12 (39:26):
Yeah?
Speaker 3 (39:26):
Great time?
Speaker 13 (39:29):
Caller sixty two one sixty five. I was listening yesterday
the conversation about the most boring grades of all time
in the NBA, and I kept thinking, you guys were
leaving somebody out that plays today. In my opinion, maybe
you disagree, could be path Duncan when he's finished at
(39:51):
Nicola Jokic.
Speaker 3 (39:54):
Nicola Jokic, What he's not boring? I mean he's awesome.
His passing, the top five passer in the league.
Speaker 5 (40:08):
I think we've referred to him as boring though many, many,
many times on the show.
Speaker 2 (40:12):
Yes, yeah, not me understanding the greatness of being you know,
a white guy who can't really jump, who.
Speaker 3 (40:19):
Was a great passer and can you jump out of
the gym you were just talking about.
Speaker 2 (40:23):
I know then I lied about my height, that I
wanted it to be more impressive, that I was dunking,
that I was six two not six three. But yeah,
I mean I I played an elevated game, you know, literally, Yes, Marvin.
Speaker 3 (40:39):
O contre Montfrere, you always said Nicole Yoaku was not
a highlight guy.
Speaker 2 (40:44):
No, so boring, all right, feel bad, He's awesome. Final
hour on the way. Fritzy's here, Seaton's here, Marv, Polly
and yours truly back after this
