Speaker 1 (00:00):
You are listening to the Dan Patrick Show on Fox
Sports Radio.
Speaker 2 (00:04):
Are the Patriots getting close to being hated? Come on in,
stay a while. It's hour two on this Tuesday. Fritzy's here,
Dylan's in for Seaton, Marvin Paulie, yours truly and the
backroom guys. Patriots beat the Giants. They won ten in
a row, longest winning streak since a ten game winning
streak back in twenty fifteen. Mike Rabel has done a
(00:25):
wonderful job, and Drake May is now you're leading candidate
for the MVP. We'll talk to Devin mccorty, former Patriots
defensive back. He was on the call for Westwood one
Radio last night as the Patriots rough up the Giants.
Thirty three to fifteen phone calls always welcome, eight seven
to seven three. DP show email address Dpadanpatrick dot com,
(00:46):
Twitter handle at DP show the poll question from hour one,
and then we'll get a new one for hour two.
By the way, good morning. If you're watching on Peacock,
that's our streaming partner. Download the app if you haven't
done so.
Speaker 3 (00:59):
Dylan, Yeah, and so our one was if you were
a free agent wide receiver, where would you or who
would you want to go play with? I had to
narrow down the options because there's only four. But it
was Drake May, Matthew Stafford, Joe Burrow or other Drake
May leading the charge.
Speaker 2 (01:17):
A recent bias. I would want to play with Joe Burrow.
I think Joe Burrow's best passer in the NFL healthy
Joe when healthy, that's the problem when healthy. But Stafford
up there as well because he sheds the wealthier. He's
been wonderful.
Speaker 4 (01:35):
Yes, Paul, This Paul was a bit of an experiment
off recency bias. But I'm curious if wide receivers, and
this seems like a rhetorical they want to play with
timing drop back passers more than scramblers. As great as
Lamar Jackson is and he's a really good passer, I
wonder if those wide receivers get frustrated by those guys.
Speaker 2 (01:54):
Well, I wouldn't want to play with Lamar Jackson or
Josh Allen or Kyler Murray because receivers want to know
where you're going to be when you throw the ball,
and if you're a scrambler, now the receiver he has
to almost find you as well. But if you have
the drop back passer. You know, I'm going to go
(02:15):
seven yards and I'm going out and most of the
time that pass will be there unless my quarterback, you know,
gets pressured. They love the timing of all of this.
They love the routine of this is how I run
a pattern, whereas the other guys are wonderful at extending
a play, but then you don't know where they are,
(02:36):
so you're constantly going, okay, where is he going? And
then you have to break off your route.
Speaker 5 (02:41):
Yes, Marvin, are you giving Joe Burrow the Aaron Rodgers
treatment where he's not the best quarterback but he's the
best thrower of the football. You take him over Patrick
Mahomes because I've seen Patrick Mahomes win Super Bowls with
guys that were all pros, like Jamar Chase and t Higgins.
Speaker 2 (02:58):
Well, Joe Burrow did take the Bengals to the Super Bowl.
Oh with that team?
Speaker 6 (03:03):
Oh, you're right, Okay, he had all pro wide receivers.
Speaker 5 (03:07):
Patrick Mahomes has a Tom Brady like quality where it's like,
who's the receiver? He threw that touchdown pass too in
the Super Bowl. Yeah, I don't know either.
Speaker 2 (03:16):
Well, Mahomes does have a Hall of Fame tight end,
Hall of Fame coach, and he has had some really
good wide receivers. And he's got Chris Jones who might
be a Hall of Famer on the defensive side. And
he's got a defensive coordinator might be the best defensive
coordinator in football. He has a lot of things going
tell me the great Bengals defensive players. That's right in
(03:38):
this century. So Joe Burrow to me, is the best passer.
That doesn't mean he's the best quarterback. If you said,
all right, game on the line, who do you want?
I'm taking Patrick Mahomes absolutely, but we're talking about Pat
if I'm a wide receiver. Now, let me put it
this way. If you take Joe Burrow and I get
(03:58):
Patrick Mahomes, I'm fine with that. Or if we flip it,
I'm fine with that. Okay. Yeah, But I think Joe Burrow,
when Joe Burrow is healthy, I think that he's the
best passer in the NFL.
Speaker 7 (04:12):
Yes, Pauline, I do wonder though the counter of that.
Speaker 4 (04:14):
Do some wide receivers like the quarterback that can keep
the play alive and they could break their out and
do something. I remember you had Pete Carroll. We had
Pete Carroll on like twelve years ago and you asked
him about something with Russell Wilson breaking plays and rolling right.
Speaker 7 (04:28):
He goes, oh, we practice that.
Speaker 4 (04:30):
We practice what you're gonna do when Russell keeps a
play alive rolling right or left, and Aaron Rodgers at
his peak would break place and roll right and find
a lot of guys with his big arm. I wonder
if there's also that's part of what receivers love.
Speaker 2 (04:43):
Well, if you're really good at breaking containment, then okay, fine,
But Aaron was always rolling right, and as a receiver,
I know where he's going. With Lamar and Josh Allen,
I don't necessarily know where they're going. It doesn't mean
that they're not great quarterbacks and future Hall of famers.
We're talking about a wide receiver. Drake May is very consistent.
(05:06):
He spreads the wealth. He's not going to give you
three hundred yards passing. He's not going to give you
one hundred and fifty. And that's what you want that
we don't have to rely on him to, you know,
win these games that we as a team. And you
saw that last night, and granted it is the giants,
but they can run the ball. And I do think
that he is very good at knowing what he can
(05:27):
and can't do.
Speaker 4 (05:29):
Yeah, Paul, This, Paul completely sets up our guests coming
up later, Steve Young because he was.
Speaker 7 (05:34):
More of a scrambler and runner.
Speaker 4 (05:35):
I mean, he was a big time runner at his peak,
and Jerry Rice played with both him and Montana. I'm
curious what the difference was was back in the day playing.
Speaker 2 (05:43):
No, because when he got to his peak, he was
not a runner, more so.
Speaker 7 (05:48):
In comparison to Montana. Yeah, he curtailed it, but.
Speaker 2 (05:50):
Like, oh yeah, Montana didn't run. I mean, Steve ran.
Steve probably could have played tailback in the NFL. He
was that talented, but he learned he had to learn
the position and go through your progressions, and that's how
he became a Hall of Famer. He was completing seventy
percent of his passes. Yes, Mark, do you think he.
Speaker 5 (06:12):
Went through the same thing that Jackson Dart is going through,
like being football player and then you know what, let's
try to be a quarterback now.
Speaker 2 (06:18):
I don't know if Steve would have taken on defenders
to prove that he was tough. Jackson Dart wants to
show that he's tough, and he got hit last night.
He is tough, but you're coming out of concussion protocol.
The last thing I want is my quarterback going to
the sidelines and deciding I'm going to take one more step. Here.
(06:41):
Here is Jackson Dart after the game.
Speaker 8 (06:45):
Well, it sounds like a broken record, Jackson just asking
you about the hits and taking them and protecting yourself
and things like that.
Speaker 2 (06:51):
Is there anything you would have done different.
Speaker 9 (06:54):
On that one?
Speaker 8 (06:55):
No, look like I understand the question, Like this is
like this is football, Like I'm gonna get hit if
I'm in the pocket or outside the pocket, Like it's
I don't I feel like I've played this way my
whole entire life. This shouldn't be like any shock or anybody.
If you've followed along with my career and I'm we're
(07:16):
not playing like we're not playing soccer out here, like
you're gonna get hit. Things happen. It's part of the game.
Speaker 2 (07:24):
It is. But you're an investment. Do you want to
play five years your way or do you want to
play fifteen years the other way? That's what I would
ask you, because you can't have both you can't be
a tough guy and expect to have a long career.
Camp and you're coming out of concussion protocol, and you've
been banged up already this year because you've taken on
(07:46):
defensive backs, and you got Troy Aikman saying you've got
to change your style. That's where you should listen. You
may not want to listen to me or any of
US reporters, but you should be listening to him. A
couple of phone calls. By the way, the autograph calendars
are gone. The only way to get them Danpatrick dot
(08:09):
com and if you click on the Tailgate Moonshine there's
some special deals for that. If you want to get
an autograph calendar. By the way, you have until December
eighth to order to get them in time for holidays.
Ryan in Nashville, Hi, Ryan, what's on your mind today?
Speaker 10 (08:27):
Hey?
Speaker 11 (08:29):
Hey, but just wanted to push back a little bit
on what you're saying about the college football structure yesterday
about how they should just go and take pick the
twelve best teams. Kind of think that'd be a disservice
to the tournament itself. I think that in every other
collegiate sports from lacrosse to soccer to baseball. He won
(08:51):
your conference rightfully, so you should have a chance to
play for the national championship. I think we just lost
in this. Are these mega conference in sixteen seventeen teams
and says, well, yeah, some teams are going to get
left out, like Texas this year. They have a case
they're going to get left out because the conference.
Speaker 12 (09:06):
Is are so big.
Speaker 11 (09:06):
I think that if you take the conference champion for
every conference, that keeps the entire country engaged. Contrary to
popular belief, we're not all SEC and Big Ten fans
like my alma mater, East Carolina. You know, three weeks ago,
we were still in the mix for a conference championship.
It was fun to follow. It engages people. I think
that that's only a fair thing to do when you're
(09:27):
a conference. Yeah, you have a chance to play for
the national championship.
Speaker 2 (09:30):
Yeah, I look. I like when we have underdogs Boise
State or Arizona State last year. But if Texas doesn't
schedule Ohio State, if they schedule the Citadel, they're in
the mix. They make the playoffs. But I don't want
to penalize these schools from actually playing somebody instead of
(09:54):
last week where nobody or the week before, nobody's playing anybody.
You know, Hey, we're going to play Charlotte. Okay, Like
that's not good for college football. It's a bye week,
and that's what bothers me. I think if you get
a governing body and you know, an oversight committee, then
(10:15):
maybe we just have great football playing great football and
it's an NFL model, because it just feels it's too
loose right now. But if I get the top fifty,
if I get relegation, I mean you could have you
could make this pretty incredible. But once again, there's nobody running. No,
(10:35):
there's nobody in the lighthouse here. The light's not on.
Andrew and Tampa, Hi, Andrew, what's on your mind?
Speaker 13 (10:43):
Born and Dan?
Speaker 3 (10:44):
Love your show.
Speaker 12 (10:45):
Thanks for having me on.
Speaker 10 (10:47):
No.
Speaker 14 (10:47):
I just wanted to point out I was watching the
press conference from John Sumrall, the new coach at the
University of Florida, last night, and he was apologizing for
having to leave town to go back to New Orleans
finished coaching Tulane. Tulane is in their conference championship game.
If they win that they go to the college playoffs.
He also pointed out in the press or that he's
(11:09):
good friends with Lane Kiffins. I think amongst the fraternity,
they're all talking to each other. I don't really see
why we're why we're bashing Lane for basically making the
same request.
Speaker 2 (11:21):
Did he leverage staying at Old Miss for the playoffs
and saying that he would poach coaches and players? So
that's where it's it's not the same, Okay, it's not
the same. Lane wanted to stay. You take a victory lap,
you did a wonderful job, You took another job, go
to the other job, and the coaches all want this.
(11:43):
They're fine with this. The coaches could change this. We
talked about this yesterday. If they wanted to change this,
they could. They're not going to thank you for the
phone call, yeah, PAULI.
Speaker 4 (11:55):
Also, Toulane and Florida aren't rivals. They're not in the
same conference. Can go back to Tulane. If you're the
new coach of Florida and help them out, you look
even better. If you win some games and get to
the playoffs, you feel better. If you're Florida about the
coach you got. Lane Kiffen and Lsu, that's a totally
different situation. Lsu was in a panic mode after Kelly
and they needed Lane. They went all out.
Speaker 2 (12:17):
Martin in Atlanta, Hey, Martin, what's on your mind?
Speaker 10 (12:20):
I appreciate taking the call today. I want to push
back a little bit because you reported last week that
the Old Miss administration wanted to and demanded Lane announced
his decision this upcoming weekend. And from all accounts, he
didn't want to, but he's now forced to. And when
they talk about him taking players by them forcing him
(12:42):
to make the decision, it opens up the transfer port
hole for all those Old Miss players in five days.
Speaker 2 (12:48):
So this is what Martin, Martin. Don't you think LSU
wanted him to make this decision because you got recruiting,
early recruiting going on. I mean, come on, I can
put Blaine on a lot of people here, but I
can't sit here and say this is all Old missus
problem because they gave him a deadline here. Lane Kiffin
(13:09):
denied that though, I mean.
Speaker 10 (13:14):
This was reported by every outlet out there.
Speaker 6 (13:16):
That they want Lane Kiff.
Speaker 2 (13:18):
Lane Kiffin went on McAfee and said that wasn't true.
Speaker 10 (13:23):
And do you believe what he said?
Speaker 2 (13:27):
Well, I don't know what am I supposed to believe?
Should I believe that he talked to God and he
made his decision. Like what am I supposed to believe
in a situation like this? If he said there wasn't
a deadline, then I'm going to take him at his word.
Speaker 10 (13:43):
Okay, Well give her a step of the dolphins.
Speaker 2 (13:46):
All right, thank you, Martin. Yeah, and once again, yes,
we've invited Lane kiffin on. Everybody keeps saying, uh, you're
talking tough. I have no problem asking Lane Kiffen questions.
Speaker 3 (14:01):
Yeah, Dylan obviously LS wants him as soon as possible,
but it is advent or. It would be advantageous for them.
From a recruiting standpoint if he did stay and won
a title with ole Miss, I would think, right.
Speaker 2 (14:17):
I don't know if a recruit goes, oh my gosh,
look at what he did at old Miss, Uh can't
wait to join him at LSU. I don't know that,
because then i'd have to understand, you know, the recruit
and what's important, Hey, you won a national title someplace else.
LSU's won national titles. Oh miss hasn't like I expect
(14:40):
him to win a national title at LSU. Ed Orgeron,
Les Miles, Nick Saban, this has happened, so it shouldn't
be a shock.
Speaker 4 (14:52):
Yes, Paul, And the early signing period is coming right up.
So let's say there was some scenario where Lane Kiffin
was allowed to stay at Ole Miss and co coach
while having an agreement to be the next coach at LSU.
He's gonna be coaching and as soon as he gets
off the field, he's to be calling LSU recruits. And
it can't it can't work that way. Yeah, And let's
say you had a new rule. Let's say Dan, that
(15:14):
rule you talked about of like, let's say you couldn't
hire your next coach until January fifteenth. But LSU wants
to know that they have Lane Kiffin on November twenty eighth.
So Old Miss has got Lane Kiffin and he's coaching
his way through the season waiting for January fifteenth. But
he's got a verbal agreement in place with LSU. They're
going to want him to recruit for LSU for the
next two months behind the scenes, and.
Speaker 2 (15:37):
Old Miss is gonna want him to recruit now, so
like he's going to recruit the same player and go, uh, well,
I don't know, maybe you go to Old Miss, but
I won't be there. But if you want to go
to LSU, all joining there. Yes, yes, Dally, I think
I have a solution.
Speaker 3 (15:53):
You make a deal ahead of time that you can
only get the LSU job if you win the title
with Old miss simultaneously recruit from those schools.
Speaker 2 (16:03):
Yeah, yes, Todd.
Speaker 15 (16:05):
I believe Lane Kiffin spoke of God and God said
you can't say no to a place called Death Valley.
Speaker 6 (16:09):
And he said, Oh my God, I gotta take this job.
Speaker 5 (16:11):
I'm going to the Tigers.
Speaker 9 (16:14):
I'm paraphrasing, but.
Speaker 15 (16:15):
I think that's had the conversation that a direct quote,
never quote me on the Lord's.
Speaker 3 (16:21):
It's called spoke to him directly, Todd.
Speaker 2 (16:24):
So just paraphrasing, paraphrasy.
Speaker 6 (16:26):
Because of your Lane Kiffin, I'm the Lord. You've got
to go there because it's Death Valley, so you can't
say no to Uh.
Speaker 2 (16:31):
All right, everybody's firing up about this Lane Kiffin and
college football, and we'll continue to take some phone calls
on this. We're going to take a break. Devin mccordy
on are the Patriots anywhere near to being hated? Are
they that good? We'll talk to him coming up next here,
Dan Patrick's show.

Patrick Show week days at nine am Eastern six am

Speaker 2 (17:29):
More phone calls coming up. Steve Young will join us
in an hour from now. Devin mccordy joins us. He
was on the call last night Giants Patriots, and that
was on Westwood one Radio. You can also catch him
on Football Night in America. That'll be Sunday. They started
seven Eastern Texans and the Chiefs kick off at eight
twenty Eastern on NBC and Peacock. If you were on
(17:51):
Old Miss Right Now and you took a team vote
of keeping Lane Kiffin on as your coach in the playoffs,
you would vote how.
Speaker 9 (18:02):
I would vote to keep him on.
Speaker 17 (18:04):
I think, as a young player when I was in college,
the opportunity to win a national championship, I would want
everything to stay as much of the same as it
could be. And I think if follows those guys, I
would also be planning for what's next. Do I want
to stay at Old Miss? Do I want to lead
but here? And then now? I would say, let's go
(18:26):
win a national championship and then decide what happens next.
Speaker 2 (18:30):
Yeah, but he's basically saying you can't win a national
title at Old Miss. That's why he's going to LSU.
If the money is around the same and LSU has
better resources that he can't win a national title with you,
even though you're going to be in the College Football Playoff.
Speaker 17 (18:45):
But I think the hard thing is, but then who
coaches you? Like those guys that are on staff. If
you stay, there's no promise that the next coach that
comes in is going to be able to coach. I
remember my senior year, Cincinnati makes it to a BCS
bowl game. They're gonna play against the Florida Gators. Brian
Kelly leaves and goes in Noor to Dame. It's a
(19:07):
whole mess the whole time leading up to the game.
And those guys in Cincinnati I trained with him, they
felt like if he stayed, they would have bet Florida.
I disagree, but they had a better chance knowing their
staff would still be intact.
Speaker 2 (19:20):
But how many players nowadays go to a college or
they go to play for a coach.
Speaker 17 (19:26):
You go to play for a coach, there's no doubt
about it. I just think you get sold on the college.
But when you get there right away, you see life's
about football and everything else comes after that.
Speaker 9 (19:40):
And that goes for all major sports.
Speaker 17 (19:42):
So you better like that coach and he better like
you if you're gonna stay there and play.
Speaker 2 (19:47):
Okay, So former defensive back and a well decorated defensive back,
Jackson dart is running down the sidelines and you're taught
to do what if you see him, maybe to sort
of still in bounds.
Speaker 17 (20:02):
Yeah, I mean, for one, what it hit last night.
But but the thing is, I was just talking about
this earlier. You study film, so when you look at
the film as a dB, as a linebacker, I would
come into the game saying, if Jackson darts on the sideline.
Speaker 9 (20:16):
We need to be going.
Speaker 17 (20:17):
We need to be ready to go over there and
take Jackson Dart out because the film has showed us
he's probably not stepping out of bounds. And me being
in New England for thirteen years, I'm pretty sure they
went over that and said, when this guy gets on
the sideline, don't break stride, don't slow down, because he's
probably not stepping out of bounds.
Speaker 9 (20:37):
And that's exactly what the play was last night.
Speaker 2 (20:41):
But then after the game, he said, this is how
I play. This is I'm going to continue to play
this way. What advice would you give him? Having witnessed
that hit in person and having played, you know, defensive
back for thirteen years.
Speaker 17 (20:54):
I would tell him if he's really going to do that,
I would tell him he's a damn fool. Like it's
just it's not gonna last in the NFL. I think
a part of that was I'm not going to back down.
I'm gonna say all of this. I do believe he's
going to change some things up because I think even
as a teammate, if I'm on the offensive line, my
job is to protect you.
Speaker 9 (21:15):
I need you to help me protect you.
Speaker 17 (21:17):
I don't want to get fine and get fifteen yard
penalties because we're attacking guys for hitting you when you
should just step out.
Speaker 9 (21:23):
So I do.
Speaker 17 (21:24):
Think he'll make the adjustment he needs to be out there.
I think the speed surprises him. Sometimes he thinks he
has a step and then the next thing he knows
he's getting hit because these guys are a lot faster.
Speaker 2 (21:36):
America seems in love with Drake May. Everybody, how does
that change? Where we've seen this with New England quarterbacks before,
where hey, what a great story and then all of
a sudden they turn on you. How long does that last?
Where Drake May and the Patriots playing this well that
it's still a good story and everybody likes Drake May.
Speaker 17 (21:59):
I think I think that the unique thing about Drake
May I got to be up there doing the preseason
games his rookie year was this kid is the youngest
of a bunch of brothers who were really good in sports.
Speaker 9 (22:11):
His brother Luke.
Speaker 17 (22:11):
May won a national championship with North Carolina as a
basketball player, and he talked about it. He's like, they
used to beat me up, they used to punish me,
they used to like everything was hard for him. And
I think you can see his teammates love that about him.
He's so poised, nothing bothers him. And I think the
unique thing about Drake May is the same thing that
(22:33):
Mac Jones had his rookie year, is the offensive coordinator
Josh mcdam's. And I think Josh will be there longer
than just his rookie year, like Mac Jones had to
go through.
Speaker 9 (22:42):
I think this is a.
Speaker 17 (22:43):
Great relationship, and I think he has a chance to
be there for a while and developed Drake May. And
I've talked to Josh. He's in love with Drake May.
Just as much as the rest of us.
Speaker 2 (22:55):
Health threatening are the Patriots.
Speaker 17 (22:57):
I think in a AFC this year where it's wide open,
the Patriots are just as good as anybody. They have
right now the best chance to me, because being there
last night, that atmosphere is different, different than even when
I was there.
Speaker 9 (23:14):
When I was there, it.
Speaker 17 (23:15):
Was we're expected to be here. We'll show up in
the AFC Championship and cheer. If the game's close, we'll
go crazy and help you out. Being in an atmosphere
after two bad seasons, you could see the fans were like, man,
we thought we were gonna have to wait maybe fifteen
years to be good again. And their energy, the way
(23:36):
they're showing up to the stadium early, staying the whole game.
I think they feel like, Hey, we got to give
this team this boost because we had no idea we'd
be this good right now.
Speaker 2 (23:47):
Talking to Devin mccordy, he works for Football Night in America,
three time Super Bowl champ with the Patriots, three time
All Pro Football Night in America. They will give you
the Texans and the Chiefs, and coverage starts at seven East.
What advice would you give Drake May about playoff football
as supposed to regular season football.
Speaker 17 (24:08):
I would tell him exactly what I heard for thirteen years.
Belichick would come in and he would say, let me
just dispel all these stupid myths out there, like the
whole experience matters. Experience doesn't matter at all. Who's playing
the best football is what matters. And he would always
(24:28):
tell us do more, put everything else in a draw,
watch the extra film, do all those little things, because
if you can play your best football, no matter if
you're a rookie, first year, twelve year vet, no matter
if you've played in the playoffs before, if you've never
played in the playoffs, He would tell you, if you
go and play good ball, that's what determines your playoff journey,
(24:51):
not that you played in twenty games or ten games,
no one cares about.
Speaker 9 (24:55):
That would be the first thing I told him.
Speaker 2 (24:58):
Ever late for a meeting with the.
Speaker 17 (25:01):
No Man, they cut people and sent people home, and
being late, I wanted my money.
Speaker 2 (25:07):
Wait, have you did you witness somebody getting cut?
Speaker 9 (25:13):
Yeah? We had.
Speaker 17 (25:14):
We had a guy who came late Saturday my second year,
second or third year, and they didn't cut him that Saturday,
but Tuesday after the Sunday and he was inactive and
then next Tuesday he was gone. And I saw guys
get sent home for being late all the time.
Speaker 2 (25:35):
Who told us the story about they faked being in
a car accident because they were going to be late
with the Patriots. And do you remember that pollie we're checking.
Was that Scott Zolac or something? I forget who we
had on.
Speaker 9 (25:51):
This sounds like a Zolac story.
Speaker 2 (25:54):
Yeah, because you had to have a good story because
if you didn't, you were going to be in trouble,
and especially if you were a secondary guy on that team.
Speaker 4 (26:04):
No doubt, Dan he told us the story. It was
a former Patriots O lineman, Rich Omburger. He said he
intentionally got into an accident because he knew he was
late and he wanted a real excuse.
Speaker 2 (26:16):
We had a.
Speaker 9 (26:16):
Guy Kyle Aaronson Carr.
Speaker 17 (26:19):
It was snowed, his car couldn't get out of the
parking lot. He hitch hiked to work just in fear
of being late, went out on the road and stood
there and asked somebody, Hey, I played for the Patriots.
You mind dropping me off the street at Patriot Place.
Speaker 2 (26:36):
So the AFC is open right now, it feels like
and if the Patriots get the home field advantage, I
don't think they're and the Chiefs don't make the playoffs,
or the Ravens don't make the playoffs, or even if
they do, doesn't feel like anybody scares them, including the
Buffalo Bills, who they have coming up this next game. Yeah.
Speaker 17 (26:58):
I think they already to Buffalo and won, and I
think right.
Speaker 9 (27:03):
Now they've gotten this rhythm.
Speaker 17 (27:06):
And I think even going off last week, they go
play Cincinnati, and it just felt like this past week
Vrabel was just tearing into them. And I don't know
that for sure, but the way they came out Monday
night felt like it was a response to them feeling
like they didn't play their best ball the week before
in Cincinnati. And I think I remember being on those
(27:27):
teams that made that run. It was all about after Thanksgiving,
how did we just play our best football. We had
seasons where we didn't give up a second half touchdown
in games, you know, from the second week in December
all the way through winning a super Bowl, like those
things that you can do and be special in that
makes a difference. And this team just feels like they're
(27:49):
moving in that direction.
Speaker 2 (27:51):
More concerned about the Chiefs are the Eagles.
Speaker 17 (27:55):
I'm more concerned about the Eagles, I think.
Speaker 9 (28:00):
I think for the Chiefs, the truth.
Speaker 17 (28:01):
Of the matter is everyone else around them just got better.
I think this Chiefs team is actually better than the
team last year that made it to the Super Bowl.
But the Broncos are better, the Chargers are better, the
Indianapolis Colt like, you look at all these other teams
that got better. The Eagles, to me, they're just underachieving.
And I kind of was like, hey, don't get too concerned.
(28:25):
Until last week when I watched Chicago beat Philly. At
what Philly does the best their defensive line, their front,
they pushed them around. That was alarming for me, and
I think they need to fix that right away.
Speaker 2 (28:38):
Always good to talk to you, Thanks for joining us.
Speaker 9 (28:41):
Thank you, Devin, anytime man. Good talking to you.
Speaker 2 (28:44):
Devin mccordy, NBC Football Night in America won three Super
Bowls with the Patriots. They got Texans Chiefs, and those
are two teams that feels like one's going up the
escalator and the other one's coming down. And we talked
about this a few weeks ago. I said, keep an
eye on the Texans because they are coming. Now. I
did think the Ravens were coming to and then having,
(29:05):
you know, watching them against the Bengals. Joe Burrow hasn't
played in months, and I'm thinking, Okay, now you're going
to see the Ravens. Here you go. And then we
didn't see them, but we did see Joe Burrow. A
couple of phone calls in here, Uh Keith and Charlotte. Hi, Keith,
what's on your mind today?
Speaker 1 (29:25):
Hey?
Speaker 12 (29:25):
Dan?
Speaker 18 (29:26):
So I have a parenting question for you. So went
to the game on Sunday here in Charlotte. Awesome game.
Great to see the Panthers pull that out. So went
to the game with my boys. Started raining was maybe
lower forties, upper thirties, and their their lips started to
(29:48):
turn blue and I noticed that, yeah again their looks
returning blue, and I asked them if they wanted to
go and stay below they said no, which was maybe
a proud dad that they wanted to stay. It am
I dad for my bad dad for threatening them with
hypothermia and long term damage. Listen, they pulled off one
(30:09):
of the most exciting wins I've seen in a long
time there ten years probably give or take, and it
was really awesome to experience that with my boys. So
I think it was worth it. But I don't know
if if Mama was super proud of me either.
Speaker 2 (30:23):
So Okay, how did it go when you got home?
Because as long as the kids don't rat you out,
then you're good. But you know it's I mean, nobody's
got frostbite art, I mean nobody lost any body parts?
Speaker 18 (30:38):
Correct, No, no body parts were lost. I mean we
were having fun. As soon as the game really started
getting going again in that third quarter and balls going
back and forth, we were getting excited and kind of
helped us stay warm. But man, it was rain and
hard dance and it was really ran and hard and
it was getting cold out there.
Speaker 2 (30:55):
Yeah, but you know what, that's a great experience. You're
always have that. You'll always have that with your boys,
and that's pretty cool. And if mom's okay with it,
then I'd say that's a win for you.
Speaker 18 (31:09):
Thanks Dan, I think so too. And it was an
awesome game, and again they hadn't seen a game like
that ever, so it was really fun.
Speaker 2 (31:18):
Thank you, Keith. You know, once again, your kids can
rat you out. And my wife every single August September
would turn off cable because she wanted the kids to
ease into the school year. There's no TV. And it
was a Saturday, and I was like, my wife was like,
(31:38):
you know cause I was doing Sports Center and she
was like, take the kids out, go do something with them.
I'm like, all right. We drove by Hooters and I thought,
you know what, it's around eleven thirty eleven thirty five,
get in there, maybe have lunch, maybe watch early kick
off or two. So I got my son, I got
(32:01):
my three daughters and I said, look, let's not tell
mom where we went. And it seemed like everybody understood.
My son all of a sudden realized that orange was
his favorite color. And we get home and you always
have to worry about the weakest link, the youngest one.
(32:22):
She walks in and says, we're not supposed to tell
you we went to Hooters. Nark b Us did. Yeah.
She was known as the nark from then on. My
wife goes, what are you doing? I said, hun, they're
getting ready for school. I'm a big time sports anchor
at ESPN. I got to watch these games. And she said, well,
(32:43):
it's hard to send the message if you're not listening
to the message. I said, you know what I do.
Next time, I leave them at home and I go
to Hooters. Son message sent loud and clear.
Speaker 4 (32:54):
Yes, Paul, I off our past caller with the kids.
Speaker 7 (32:57):
Then I checked WebMD.
Speaker 4 (32:59):
Blue lips is an early sign of hypothermia, not like
middle or late stage hypothermia. So I think it's just
good parenting, that's all that is.
Speaker 2 (33:07):
It was it like Carolina blue lips that they had
a Richard Petty blue How deep was Yes? Marvin.
Speaker 5 (33:15):
As a husband, do you feel sometimes like you're the
biggest kid in the house.
Speaker 6 (33:19):
Yes, because my son's quick to say will be in trouble.
Speaker 1 (33:22):
Who is we.
Speaker 5 (33:25):
You don't pay any bills in this yeah, but not
in trouble, Like, no, you're in trouble.
Speaker 2 (33:31):
He can disavow any knowledge. He can say to mom,
I didn't want to do it.
Speaker 5 (33:36):
But there are times when it's like, oh, I do
not tell your mother because she's gonna have my head.
Speaker 2 (33:41):
But all I know is if I didn't say that
to my kids, hey, don't tell mom, then they probably
wouldn't have told her. It was the youngest, and she
walked as soon as she walks in, she first won
in Hey, uh, we're not supposed to tell you. We
went to Hooters and then I walk in and my
wife was like who I said, Yeah.
Speaker 4 (34:03):
I think you'd have been okay if it was just
a sports bar, I think you would have.
Speaker 7 (34:07):
It'd have been light or a twin peaks. Maybe hmmm,
we're not busne.
Speaker 15 (34:12):
Was your youngest old enough to appreciate or understand why
this had to be a secret, as to what is
the problem now saying where we were?
Speaker 2 (34:20):
No, No, I don't think so. I wasn't explaining things. Yeah,
I didn't have to. I just remember my son was
ordering and he didn't even look at the menu. He
just stared at the waitress there, and I went, oh,
this probably isn't going to turn out great when I
get home. Okay, let's take a break. More phone calls
(34:42):
coming up. We're back after this Dan Patrick show.

Speaker 2 (34:57):
Matt in Ohio, Hi Matt, what's on your mind today?
Speaker 12 (35:02):
Hey guys, Dan, glad you're feeling better. I'm kind of
going through what you were going through. It's great. I'm
kind of a uniform guy. And I wanted to throw
a couple of things out there. I was basking in
the new England look last night, so I had a
potential poll question, which teams would you want to see
(35:28):
come back with their throwbacks? Eagles, Kelly Green, the Patriots, Broncos,
Tampa or the Seahawks. And then the one other thing
I had was a trivia question that I'm sure.
Speaker 2 (35:46):
You guys will will nail here.
Speaker 12 (35:47):
There's one city that all three major sports teams were
the same colors.
Speaker 2 (35:55):
Okay, yeah, Paul, right, you guys will get it.
Speaker 12 (36:02):
Yeah, Yeah, I knew Paul Wood that Paula yeah, eat nailed, Yeah,
I knew it.
Speaker 2 (36:06):
He's part of the uniform police. Yeah, throwback uniforms, Marvin,
you know your uniforms. Of all the ones that we
can bring back, which ones would you.
Speaker 5 (36:20):
Think the most realistic would be the Kelly green because
it's not that different than what they have now. They
just got to change the color. I don't know if
that's green or navy blue or black when the Eagles play.
Speaker 2 (36:31):
Yeah, because you have the other color, you know, I
always think of Randall Cunningham might quick. You know that
green was awesome. I love that green. This one, I
don't know what it is. It's just dark. Dylan, do
you have a uniform? A let's bring that uniform back.
Speaker 3 (36:46):
Well, my favorite all the time is I think the
powder blue Cardinals jerseys, which I believe they did bring
back in the rotation a few years ago. Baseball, Yeah, Baseball.
Speaker 2 (36:58):
Yeah, those were the suggestions that we're given.
Speaker 3 (37:03):
Really, I do like the Seahawks. I like the old
Seahawks logo too. Actually, Dodd, maybe Falcons.
Speaker 15 (37:09):
Shockingly, I'm gonna go with the seventy seven orange crush with.
Speaker 9 (37:11):
The Royal Blinar.
Speaker 2 (37:13):
Yeah, Paulie, I would say.
Speaker 7 (37:15):
I'm going to go off the bord a little bit.
Speaker 4 (37:16):
The Atlanta Falcons go back to the early eighties, Steve Bartkowski,
William Andrews, because right now the Falcons are as non
as script as it gets. They look like an AI said,
create an NFL uniform and they're bland.
Speaker 2 (37:29):
David in Ohio, Hi, David, what's on your mind today?
Speaker 1 (37:33):
Hey?
Speaker 19 (37:34):
I placed a vet with Todd at the beginning of
the season that the Steelers would have more wins than
his Broncos. That doesn't appear likely, So I didn't know
if Todd had a pie in mind that I would
be taking to the face for the show.
Speaker 2 (37:51):
Well Ton, you have a suggestion for David in Ohio.
Speaker 15 (37:55):
I would say, because it's the Broncos, some kind of
orange marmalade pie, any kind of pie that has like
an orange or blue blueberry would be the next year.
Something that has to have the Bronco colors that it
would be fabulous.
Speaker 2 (38:05):
What about pumpkin pie? There's okay, an orange tint to.
Speaker 6 (38:10):
Anything that's got some kind of orange or blue in it.
That would make sense.
Speaker 15 (38:13):
And that's very nice that he admitted and brought up
something that happened a while ago with the with the.
Speaker 2 (38:18):
Batam in Virginia. Hi, Adam, what's on your mind?
Speaker 13 (38:23):
Hey Dan? First time, long time, five seventy one fifty
and yeah, I wanted to call and kind of shime
in from the other side of the spinier on the
Lane Kiffin drama. I'll precease this by saying, if you
had told me prior to h hiring Lane that we're
going to get several ten win seasons and go to
(38:44):
our first playoff and revitalize the program. But in exchange
for that, he's going to leave the campus and flames
and take a job at LSU. I still think most
logical Ole Miss fans probably would have signed up for that.
I mean, when I was in school, it was coach
O and housed a nut. I think we were in
the SEC twice while I was in school. So to
have this run we've been on, it's been pretty amazing.
Speaker 2 (39:07):
But for everyone.
Speaker 13 (39:08):
To call in and say this is a systematic problem
or it's not really Lane's fault, I mean, the reality
is is that you know, we got this documentary out
there that's been you know, portraying Laane is this cleaned
up guy and it has everything to do with old myths.
But now we know that soon as Brian Kelly was
fired on you know, in October, he's been behind the scenes,
(39:31):
you know, working both angles here and you know, our
athletic director and Lane had been discussing about streamlining our
recruitment pipeline, Daddy infrastructure, restructuring nil contracts and kind of
let us along this whole time, only to then, you know,
take the job at LSU. And it just seems like
(39:54):
a lot of people are making it seem like Lane
is a victim of the process here. And the reality
is is that you know, he sparked this thing and
continue to pour gasoline on it.
Speaker 2 (40:08):
Well, I mean, once again, we discussed I hope all
angles with this, the inner workings there with him and
the athletic director. I don't care. He made a decision,
he left, that's all. He's not a victim. College football
needs to change this and hopefully that prevents other coaches
from leaving their teams while they're in the playoffs.
Speaker 5 (40:30):
Yes, Marvin, are there any schools that are safe as
far as if you're the coach at Ohio State or Alabama,
you don't have to worry about your coach going anywhere else,
but any other schools safe for Texas A and M.
Speaker 6 (40:41):
You have to worry about Mike Elko, right.
Speaker 2 (40:44):
Yeah, because Penn State was recruiting him hard and Penn State,
as I've said before, you can't fire James Franklin during
the season without having somebody that is going to be
in the on deck circle. And maybe maybe you get
Kialani Sataki, the by head coach, who, by the way,
(41:05):
has a game against Texas Tech coming up this weekend.
And then I saw a report where there's mutual interest
BYU legend Steve Young will join us. How would he
feel if his head coach was going to take another
job while they're getting ready for a playoff game? He'll
join us? Coming up more phone calls as well, final
(41:25):
hour in this Tuesday. Right after this
