Speaker 1 (00:00):
You are listening to The Dan Patrick Show on Fox
Sports Radio.
Speaker 2 (00:04):
It's our one on this Thursday, and what was supposed
to be a quiet week for college football. We were
gearing up for Army Navy this weekend. Oh boy, calm
before the storm. No, there was no call. There's a
storm storm of Brewin and Michigan. We'll have a report
on that coming up here. We got football tonight, Falcons
(00:26):
at the Buccaneers. Last call for the Buccaneers, maybe last
call for Raheem Morris and the Falcons and his job
as the head coach of the Falcons, because there were
a lot of expectations, great expectations for that team, and
he even said we have the best player in football
in Vijon Robinson and that has not been the case.
(00:46):
A big disappointment injuries, quarterbacking situation, and Raheem Morris could
be dead man walking there in Atlanta as they play
the Buccaneers.
Speaker 3 (00:58):
Eight seven to seven three.
Speaker 2 (00:59):

Speaker 3 (01:38):
Imagine you show up for work.
Speaker 2 (01:40):
You show up for work, and you go, let's prep
for a bowl game December thirty first the Citrus Bull.
See you start your day getting ready for the Citrus Bull.
You end your day in jail. You end your day
losing your job. That's what happened at Michigan yesterday with
Sharon Moore. Now, according to Michigan officials, they found credible
(02:02):
evidence that he is well, he's married with three daughters,
engaged in an inappropriate relationship with a staff member, which
is a clear violation of the university policy. So he
had been there for two years as the head coach
and finished seventeen and eight during his time as a
head coach. So he's fired with cause and now you
(02:26):
start to look at a bigger picture here. Now we'll
talk about as much as we can find out about
this with Sharon Moore, because there are a lot of
details here. Was he in the meeting where he got fired?
What happened exactly after that? Did he go to the
staffers apartment? Did he threaten her and threaten himself or
threaten to kill her and him? But once again, married
(02:49):
with three daughters. I think he has a twin daughters
who might be a year old. And when did the
investigation start? Because if I'm a recruit or if I
saw there, when did you know?
Speaker 3 (03:02):
Now? I had gotten went at the end of October.
Speaker 2 (03:04):
Now once again I'm going to factor in conspiracy theories
of Okay, who is generating this story, where's it coming from?
Speaker 3 (03:13):
You know?
Speaker 2 (03:13):
Is it a smear campaign? Does it have anything to
do with the Ohio State Michigan rivalry. I mean, those
were the things that I thought immediately, and then it
kind of I don't know, quiet down, I didn't hear
anything about it. Once again, it was a tweet from
a source at the end of October who told me this,
and I thought, okay, now I'd see if anything goes
(03:33):
there you know, anything more attached to.
Speaker 3 (03:36):
This, and then it went away.
Speaker 2 (03:38):
They lost to Ohio State, and Pauli had brought up
something and said, hey, you know that story's kind of
is still there, but it wasn't a story.
Speaker 3 (03:48):
It was kind of a rumor.
Speaker 2 (03:50):
Nobody was reporting on this, and I thought, okay, and
then all of a sudden, boom fired. And then all
of a sudden, add to that, what happens. He has
a knife, now this is what's reported, goes to the
apartment of the woman that he's having an affair with
(04:10):
and threatens her life, in his life, and then all
of a sudden police are dispatched there all in one day. Here,
the Wolverines obviously have to find a coach past because
the transfer portal is set to open January second. That
means Michigan players are going to have a fifteen day
window to enter the portal once a new coach is hired.
Speaker 3 (04:36):
That's a lot.
Speaker 2 (04:38):
Now, did these players who signed with Michigan did they
have any idea that their coach might be fired? Should
they have been told something? Could they have been told something?
Because you're going there in your mind, are you going
there under a false pretense? There I'm guessing for legal reasons,
(05:00):
they probably couldn't say anything, but those players probably are going, well,
wait a minute, here, do I want to stay at Michigan?
The coaching carousel stopped. Everybody got their long term deals
or they went and took other jobs. Now you got
to have a coach, and you got to get one quickly.
If this is three weeks ago, does Matt Campbell go
to Penn State? I mean, that's the first thing I
(05:23):
thought of. Now you're going to look at other guys.
Washington's head coach Jed Fish, there's ties to him from
Michigan and Chargers defensive coordinator Jesse Minter. But they're also
going to go after you know, these guys who just
signed contract extensions. They're going to go after Caitlin de Boor,
(05:43):
they're going to go after Vanderbilt's Clark Lee. They're going
to go after to Kenny Dillingham at Arizona State. Nobody
thought Michigan was going to be open. We knew Penn
State was open. They couldn't fill that. They had over
fifty days and had a hard time filling that, and
then they got lucky and got Matt Campbell from Iowa state.
(06:03):
So this is a mess. This is a mess on
all fronts. With Michigan, I'm gonna throw out a wild
card name and I have no information on this. But
if I need a coach right now, proven coach right now,
has no ties to anything right now, I go after
(06:25):
Brian Kelly. I go after Brian Kelly. He knows the
landscape back in the Midwest, no ties, got the money
coming from LSU, but he would go in. You could
go right in right away. But the other ones, you know,
(06:47):
that's kind of a tangled web of trying to get
these coaches. Oh are we going to ask Kaylin Borf
he's interested in Michigan while Alabama's playing in the playoffs.
Vanderbilt's Chuck clark Lee, who's done a oneonderful job there.
I mean, we do throw these scenarios out and then
I just wonder, can you get somebody right now? And
(07:07):
what do you do with your recruits? If I'm Bryce
Underwood who just got paid two and a half million
dollars to be your quarterback his freshman year and he
was going to go to LSU, I'm on the phone.
I've already been on the phone. Then I'm sure with
Bryce Underwood or his reps and say.
Speaker 3 (07:25):
Come on down. You know you see what Lane Kiffin
does for his quarterback. Come on down here. We'll match it.
Speaker 2 (07:31):
We'll give you a little more. You want to come
down here and be our quarterback at LSU. I mean
it's cutthroat right now. And you know everybody all hands
on deck. Got to keep the recruits there, those who
just signed the players you have there, and you got
to get a coach and you got to do that
in a couple of weeks. Other than that, how's your
day going, Michigan?
Speaker 4 (07:52):
Yeah?
Speaker 3 (07:53):
You know me, I've been a live long you per nothing.
Speaker 5 (07:57):
I love spending more than going up north to the
Mitton spending some time having a cony and a pope.
Speaker 3 (08:06):
Thank you, Brian. We've got to change his accent back
to the min me.
Speaker 5 (08:10):
I be a lifelong you, Bert, Oh boy, give myself
a bumpy cake.
Speaker 2 (08:18):
Eight seven seven three DP show email address Dpadanpatrick dot com,
Twitter handle a DP show Rob Gronkowski. A little bit
later on the great college football writer Dan Wetzel from
the Mothership.
Speaker 3 (08:30):
We will have more.
Speaker 2 (08:31):
We'll check in with the local reporter in Michigan on
this situation. But Sharon Moore arrested for assault football. Coming
up tonight the Colts. They're working out Philip Rivers, and
you certainly get the feeling he's going to be on
the roster this weekend. Jaden Daniels is out again, and
you got a big weekend coming up, you know, the
(08:53):
final four games here coming up for these NFL teams.
So we'll dissect the playoff hopes for some of these teams.
And once again I didn't realize this, but it was
it was my point to make h everybody aware. As
much as we want to go kans City Chiefs still
got a chance. When I said to the Dantz yesterday
their records the same as the Dolphins, then it kind
(09:16):
of sets in and you go, damn same as the Dolphins.
Six seven is the kids like to say, six seven?
Speaker 3 (09:24):
What what? When I passed my window of six seven.
Speaker 6 (09:30):
When it gets to you, it's probably oh.
Speaker 7 (09:32):
Okay, wow, my kids told me that was a July, August,
September thing.
Speaker 3 (09:37):
That all right, and that would be what months of
the year would that be? Six seven? Thank you?
Speaker 2 (09:48):
Todd Eyah Okay, the old man still got a little
get up on his fastball here. Pole question today, Does
anybody have a poll question on this program?
Speaker 3 (09:59):
Seaton?
Speaker 8 (10:00):
I'm sorry what?
Speaker 3 (10:00):
Yeah, you're goofing around back there. I was listening to
the executive producer of the show talking to me, Dan,
That's what I was to listen to me? Who is
the host of the show that he's producing? Huh? Why
what's the pole question today?
Speaker 8 (10:14):
Well, I'm trying to think of something that's not insensitive
regarding Michigan.
Speaker 2 (10:18):
Yeah. I don't know if that's a topic for a
pole question, because I I don't want to be flippant
with that.
Speaker 8 (10:26):
If you if you recently committed to Michigan, what are
you doing now?
Speaker 3 (10:31):
Yeah?
Speaker 2 (10:34):
You know.
Speaker 3 (10:34):
I think I.
Speaker 8 (10:36):
Feel like if you're being recruited by a school, the
job security of the coach that is recruiting you should be.
Speaker 3 (10:46):
Paramount.
Speaker 2 (10:47):
Yeah right, But I like that the NCAA allows for
these kids to say, do I want to stay here?
Speaker 3 (10:54):
Oh? Absolutely?
Speaker 2 (10:55):
Now it used to be you're locked in no matter
who's coming into coach, and I think that you should
have that window, which they do. You got fifteen days
and this is going to be a mad scramble here.
Speaker 7 (11:07):
Yeah, Paulie, I would say, though, no disrespect to Sharon Moore,
but he hasn't earned the right to be the reason
kids went to that school. My guess is, if you're
going to Michigan and you just declared last week you
wanted to play for Michigan in the Big Ten with
their history, and Sharon Moore has been a temp coach's
who's been underwhelming so and he's been the shortest stint
(11:27):
coach in the past one hundred years for that team.
Speaker 2 (11:29):
You had everything there, yep, Okay, they gifted you this
head coaching position. You got suspended because of the whole
Signs stealing scandal, and you survived it, and now you
have this. You got three little kids at home. Yes,
(11:51):
you know, I think I think Paul's right.
Speaker 8 (11:52):
Sharon Moore hasn't earned that's right to be. I'm going
there to play for you. However, he's still the guy
that said to all of these kids, you're my guy,
and I want you to come here. And now he's
not there anymore, and the next guy who comes in
might like a totally different type of player.
Speaker 2 (12:07):
Yeah, because it's about what style do you play? And
you're recruiting me for how you want to coach your style,
how your defense is how your offense is. I mean
it's very specific. We've talked to you know, former athletes
here recently. You go to play for a coach, it's
not about you're going to play in that conference or
(12:28):
play for that school or that environment.
Speaker 3 (12:31):
It is specific, I'm playing for you. And then.
Speaker 2 (12:36):
Everything is year to year. All of this is year
to year. It feels like it's year to year with
the coaches, it's year to year with the players. And
now these players are probably saying, do I want.
Speaker 3 (12:47):
To go through this?
Speaker 2 (12:48):
You got no recruits okay? Or you're going to have
recruits who may want to leave. I mean, it's not
like Penn State with signing Day because they got crushed.
You're still Michigan and they still have some really good
recruits coming in. Where did they rank, PAULI with a
signing day?
Speaker 7 (13:05):
Michigan off signing day had twenty seven recruits. They were
ranked fourth in the Big Ten to eleventh in the country,
So pretty standard for them.
Speaker 3 (13:12):
Maybe a little light, yeah.
Speaker 2 (13:14):
But now you wonder if you can hold on to
those players, and what coach is going to take this
job right now?
Speaker 7 (13:22):
Yeah, Paul, but this is where nil can save you
and five years it couldn't. You may go back to
these recruits and say, we're all renegotiating, we're all renegotiating,
and your initial deals for NIL have now all been
bumped up twenty percent. And that made Trump whatever the
coaching situation is with the NIL and you didn't have
that availability ten years ago, five years ago.
Speaker 2 (13:41):
Yeah, well, see who wants this job? How many players
are going to stay, how many are going to go?
But just imagine you're going to work and you go, hey,
we got to get ready for the Citrus Bowl in
a couple of weeks, and he knows there's an investigation
going on. He had to know there's an investigation going on.
(14:04):
How much did he know?
Speaker 3 (14:05):
When did he know it? And then all of a
sudden what happened after that?
Speaker 1 (14:10):
Now?
Speaker 3 (14:10):
Is it attempted murder?
Speaker 7 (14:12):
I looked at the police department website and they said
charges are pending and that Sharon Moore was held part
of the investigation, also for his own safety. Sorry, yeah,
there's according to again, I want to stick with the
police report. They made it sound like charges are pending
and have him been filed yet?
Speaker 3 (14:30):
But if he threatened to kill her and himself, is
that attempt to murder that.
Speaker 7 (14:36):
I don't know, but I think there's a court arrangement
this morning.
Speaker 3 (14:39):
Okay.
Speaker 2 (14:40):
In fact, we're going to talk to a reporter who
I believe is at the courthouse. Does that sound right?
Ton That is correct?
Speaker 3 (14:46):
All right?
Speaker 2 (14:47):
Tony Garcia who covers Michigan ye for the Detroit Free Press.
He's at the courthouse. He'll join us. Coming up, we
will settle on a poll question. Your phone calls are
always welcome. Rob Gronkowski a little bit later on to
add some levit here. Dan Wetzel, college football columnist from
the Mothership, will stop by as well. Just getting started
on this Thursday. Glad to have you on board Dan

Speaker 2 (15:53):
This was supposed to be a quiet time for college football,
calm before the storm, where we got ready for the
bowl games and the play on, and all of a sudden,
you have the Michigan situation. We've had the Mission Penn
State situation as well. We had the Lane Kiffin situation. Also,
I got word late last night that there's a conference
(16:13):
that's pushing to expand the playoffs a lot further, a
lot more teams than you might expect. I'll have that
for you coming up here in a moment. Tony Garcia,
covering Michigan football for the Detroit Free Press kind of
enough to join us on a busy day. I know
you're at the courthouse there, Tony. What is Sharon Moore
(16:34):
being held on? What are the charges? Yeah, good morning, Van.
Speaker 9 (16:38):
As of now, there are no official charges to this
point that have been made publicly, so Shron Moore was
investigated for this assault investigation that is going on.
Speaker 3 (16:50):
Things moved pretty quickly yesterday.
Speaker 9 (16:51):
So Drommore was fired for a cause on Wednesday after
an investigation found credible evidence he had an inappropriate relationship
with a staffer. I'm told there had been an internal
investigation dating back a couple months, and then recently in
the last couple of weeks, they brought in an outside
firm which corroborated things and moved that over to the
(17:12):
athletic department. Separately from that, multiple law enforcement agencies responded
to a call for mister Moore just outside inn Arbor
around four pm yesterday, less than one hour before the
firing was announced. The investigation currently is into an alleged
assault and mister Moore has been detained by the Pittsfield
(17:33):
Township Police and he was transported to the Washtaw County
Jail overnight where he was held. That's where we are
right now in the fourteen A District Court here in
Washingtaut County.
Speaker 3 (17:43):
How was he informed that he was fired?
Speaker 9 (17:48):
Those details are not quite public. I've been told that
yesterday there was a team meeting. The athletic director came
in to the team facilities and informed the staff and
the players, but mister Moore was not there at that.
Speaker 10 (18:02):
Time, So.
Speaker 9 (18:04):
I sometime in the previous in the past forty eight
hours is when he is when he was told specifically,
but it's.
Speaker 3 (18:14):
Not clear where he was at at the time. And
this has been swirling. I had gotten word at the
end of October.
Speaker 2 (18:21):
Now I don't know if that lines up with anybody's timeline,
but once again, I didn't know, you know, if there
was any fire to it. There was certainly smoke, and
I didn't know if it was a smear campaign or
just somebody putting something out on social media. But I
did get a heads up from a source, but then
it kind of went away. When did it resurface where
you knew that this was something that was credible?
Speaker 3 (18:45):
Yeah?
Speaker 9 (18:46):
Really in October, like you just said, Dan, that is
when the week of the Michigan State game was the
final week of October. That is when the university started
investigating this, and there had been word and other reporters
had heard as well that there was not quite the
findings to move forward with this, and then something changed
in the last couple of weeks where a smoking gun
(19:08):
of sorts was found that much to me, is not
yet clear whom it was, but things things evolved pretty
rapidly in the last ten or so days.
Speaker 2 (19:17):
Were these recruits signees given any heads up that their
coach his job is in jeopardy.
Speaker 9 (19:25):
It doesn't sound like it from what from what I've heard,
But I've also been told that this investigation and the
findings of this investigation was not held intentionally post signing day,
because remember this in this day and age, in this
transfer portal era, once a head coach leaves, everybody is
free to enter the transfer portal market as they see fit.
(19:47):
So this would have they could be on the on
the move anyway, and they have they have free reign
to do so immediately.
Speaker 2 (19:55):
And fifteen day window here for these new signees and
those players who were currently on the roster, that's right,
which will almost overlap into when the portal opens again
and in January.
Speaker 9 (20:11):
Right, So, people players in the Michigan program most of
the next six weeks or so plus, they're gonna they're
gonna be eligible for transfer, and so we'll see. I mean,
there's a lot of damage control going on in and
around behind the scenes right now.
Speaker 2 (20:27):
Talking to Tony Garcia joining us from the courthouse. He
covers Michigan football and basketball for the Detroit Free Press.
Will Sharon Moore appear in court this morning?
Speaker 9 (20:37):
That's our expectation. We are here in the in the
lobby at the fourteen A District Court. We've been a
colleague and I have been walking around to different court
rooms trying to find it. But it seems as though
there's some TV monitors over to mind lacked here. They
may just arragn him via zoom and display it on
TV and court. So I'm not sure if we're going
(20:58):
to get to be in person for anything.
Speaker 2 (21:01):
The coaching search is underway, I'm sure give me a
short list here of you know, the true potential candidates. Yeah, well,
there's a couple that really come to the top of
mind for me. One of them is Jedfish at Washington.
Speaker 9 (21:18):
He has had ties to the Big Ten, to Michigan
specifically where he was a quarterbacks coach, wide receivers coach,
passing game coordinator under Jim Arbaugh in twenty fifteen sixteen,
and he's led a couple of nice successful programs in
the past five years. He turned Arizona around. He took
over after they went h to five in the COVID
(21:40):
nineteen short and twenty twenty season. He won just one
game that first year, but by year three he was
ten and three. He beat Oklahoma in a bowl game,
and so he seems to know how I mean. And
that's a lot fewer resources than here in ann Arbor,
and then recently the past two years at Washington. Nothing
to truly write home about six and seven years ago
(22:00):
and then eight and four this past season, but Caluin
de Boor had left right for Alabama and and that
roster was completely gutted. So I don't think anybody thought
he was going to make a bowl game that first year.
And he's done a great job this year as well,
with just even winning eight games with another roster I
think over under before the season was six and a half.
(22:23):
So he's exceeded expectations again. And then I just mentioned
the other name, Cana de Boer. Sounds like things are
I mean, there's been a lot going on in Alabama
and in tuscal loose, and we know the fan base
is not exactly happy with the job he's done nine
to four in his first season, missing the college football playoffs,
just making it in there this season I wonder if
(22:45):
he doesn't wait for someone in Tuscal Lucid to make
a call in one year, if he doesn't win a
national championship and he sees a program that has all
the resources, all the money, the infrastructure that you could
want as a winner. Obviously just won a national championship
two seasons ago. Those would be my top two names
on the list right now.
Speaker 2 (23:05):
Yeah, but does in Alabama have all those things that
you're telling me Michigan has.
Speaker 3 (23:10):
Oh, certainly they do.
Speaker 9 (23:11):
I mean, I mean it's a long shot, right and
I don't I don't think. But he has ties to
this area as well. So at Eastern Michigan, he was
an offensive coordinator from twenty fourteen to twenty sixteen, which
is shot just up the road in Ipsilani. And then
he got his start, or really i'd say he made
a name for himself in the Big Ten with Indiana
with Michael at Indiana with Michael Pennix before he then
(23:33):
took him to Washington and led them to a national
championship loss, ironically to Michigan.
Speaker 2 (23:38):
All right, let me let me throw out a name
that probably would not be popular. But he's free right now,
and he's got experience, and that would be Brian Kelly.
Speaker 9 (23:49):
I knew where you were going to go with that,
and I tweeted out yesterday and maybe this is a
chance for cold takes exposed or something.
Speaker 3 (23:59):
It's not going to be.
Speaker 9 (24:00):
It's it's not going to be Brian Kelly. Okay, there
are there's there's brass that is not that are not
Brian Kelly fans. And now I will leave it at time.
Speaker 3 (24:09):
Great stuff, Uh, good luck today. Thank you, Dan, appreciate
having me on.
Speaker 2 (24:14):
It's Tony Garcia covers Michigan football for the Detroit Free
Press at the Courthouse there and I threw out Brian Kelly.
You know, Uh, it wouldn't be popular, but I mean,
you got to stop the bleeding here. Get somebody in
who's still respected. I would think in the coaching community.
(24:37):
You probably don't have to pay him a lot. You
could have him earn his his contract. You got to
keep those kids on campus, man, because now it's abandoned ship.
Speaker 7 (24:49):
Yeah, Paulie, I don't know how serious that Klin de
Bor to Michigan possibility is, but the idea of going
from Washington to Alabama to replace Nick Saban to choosing
to leave how Alabama like by choice is one of
the nuttier things I've ever heard of as a concept.
Speaker 3 (25:04):
But this, this has been there for a while. This
was brought up to me twice.
Speaker 2 (25:10):
Two independent sources talked about Kaitlin de boor ah, is
his family happy there?
Speaker 3 (25:16):
And I like, he's he's in Alabama, got a great program.
Speaker 2 (25:21):
Yeah, but yeah, but you know if us he moves
on from Lincoln, right, I was like, wow, like it
it expanded across the United States. It was like, well,
you know, I could see him going here, he could
go there, And now it's could he go to Michigan.
I guess you're in the playoffs, you're in Alabama. I
(25:45):
know it's one of the Marquy jobs. But his name
keeps coming up. Now he has to answer this. It's
going to be brought up in a press conference. Hey,
your name's being mentioned at Michigan. You got any comments
on that? And of course he's going to say, no,
I'm happy here, going to stay here. We're preparing for
(26:06):
you know, our college football playoffs, all of those things.
But this is where we are with college football, where
it's you can't say no, that would never happen because
of all the things that have happened. Wild, crazy, and
once again, this was supposed to be the quiet time
for college football after the playoffs, our Playoff Committee, selection show.
Speaker 3 (26:29):
Signing Day. All right, let's let Army and Navy have
center stage this weekend.
Speaker 6 (26:35):
Yes, Marvin, If Calen de Moore leaves Alabama to go
to Michigan, there's officially no destination jobs in America as
far as college football is concerned. Yeah, like Lincoln Riley
left Oklahoma, that's supposed to be a destination job. If
he leaves Alabama, I know there's no destination jobs.
Speaker 2 (26:51):
Oh god, it's crazy, crazy, But you start to look
at the timeline here. You know, the new code has
to be hired within thirty days. The fifteen day transfer
portal window opens up December thirty. First, I mean, this
is wild. And to get the coach and you're are
(27:13):
you trying to get the coach that you want in
there or you're just getting somebody to take over. I
think that's really the key. And here's the other thing
I wanted to tell you about. The Big Ten is
pushing for twenty four teams in the playoffs. Now apparently
they're the hurdle keeping us from sixteen teams. From what
(27:35):
I'm told, next year, sixteen playoff teams. The Big Ten
is pushing for twenty four teams. The Big Ten wants
to have at least four spots that are secured for
the Big Ten. Now, if you do twenty four, you
won't have conference championships, but sixteen has momentum right now.
(28:00):
But you're going to have to get the Big Ten
in the SEC to sign off on this. From what
I'm told, the Big Ten is pushing for twenty four
teams to make sure they have at least four schools
in there. And you can bet the SEC is going
to go, well, we want five automatic qualifiers in here,
not four, we want five. So there's nine there, and
(28:24):
then you know, you go around to the other conferences here.
But this is going on right now as we speak
those conversations. Yeah, Paulin I saw a couple.
Speaker 7 (28:33):
Other stories that the Notre Dame private deal with the
playoff committee that starts next year is not going over
well with other conferences and other schools.
Speaker 3 (28:42):
Yeah, but this is like just an automatic qualifier.
Speaker 2 (28:45):
That's what Notre Dame I think is saying, and that's
what you know, the college Football Playoff Committee is saying
this is sort of you know, their automatic qualifier there.
Speaker 3 (28:55):
Whether you agree with that or not, but these are
the things that are going on.
Speaker 2 (29:00):
And yes, I think there were a lot of people
who were surprised that you had wait a minute, Notre
Dame didn't make the playoffs. But we're going to make
sure they make the playoffs next year because if they're
in the top twelve, well, now, the top twelve, if
there's twenty four teams, I mean, now that's too many,
and sixteen is probably where we land. But it feels
(29:20):
like there's still some negotiating going on there because these
big conferences, the Big Ten and the SEC saying, wait
a minute, here, we want to be guaranteed. But if
you're the Big ten, do you want to come off
as hey, we need help, we need help to be
and as my source said, it would appear the only
(29:41):
way twenty four happens is the replacement of conference championships.
Speaker 3 (29:47):
Let's see what else does he say?
Speaker 2 (29:48):
In general, the Big ten lacks confidence in the committee's
process and wants to at least have four spots automatic qualifiers. Oh,
welcome to college football's new landscape forever changing christ and
Syracuse leads us off. I Chris, what's on your mind today?
Speaker 10 (30:09):
Hey? Thanks? Dan?
Speaker 11 (30:09):
Yeah, a couple of items for you. You know what
went down yesterday and Arbor. If it had happened a
few weeks ago and both LSU and Michigan were pursuing
Lang Kiffin years ago, you'd think, Wow, that's a tough choice.
But Michigan football program has been so toxic on so
many levels. Hey, you think LSU is the clear, clear choice.
And also, Dan, I wonder if Tom Brady will want
(30:33):
to have input on Michigan's coaching search, and with his
track record at Vegas, Michigan even want his input.
Speaker 2 (30:40):
Well, okay, it's funny that you say that, because here's
from a college football source.
Speaker 3 (30:47):
Let me see, let's see early reviews. You've got.
Speaker 2 (30:58):
Somebody from the Eagles, Scott Leffler, Virginia's head coach, Jedfish
at Washington. Maybe Tom Brady can bring Bill Belichick to
the Wolverings.
Speaker 3 (31:12):
That's that's that's just a little joke there. Lit'll sarkcasm there.
Speaker 2 (31:17):
But there, you know, and Jesse Mintor, he was on
Harball's staff and he got suspended during the whole. I
think coaching their signal stealing controversy, he got show caused.
Speaker 3 (31:29):
Yeah, and I think that show cause ends today.
Speaker 7 (31:33):
I have it as the fifteenth of December conveniently.
Speaker 3 (31:36):
Okay.
Speaker 2 (31:37):
I don't think you can bring back Jesse Mintor, given
what happened with the Harball regime. Did I see that
as a long shot there, But maybe it's you know,
Jedfish at Washington coming back. You know that everybody loves
to have ties. Oh he's got you know, Caitlin de Boor,
he's got ties in eastern Michigan and okay there for
(31:58):
two years. Yeah, I drove through Michigan. I guess I
got ties there the Upper Peninsula. Yeah, Hooper, yeah, Cooper.
All right, let me take a break. More phone calls
coming up. Eight seven to seven three DP show. Our

Speaker 3 (32:28):
Of the Day, God Play the Day, Check this out.
Speaker 12 (32:35):
Share Yo Yo's out front shadowed by Brooks eight seconds
back of a Wallace pick blinding right and south passes
though to Wallace, Pump fakes kicks out the dub hang
left three is up head and so tang a thunderbunnyball
the buzzer. Oh what a pump'suation mark on a brilliant
opening half tonight from downtown Oklahoma City.
Speaker 2 (32:56):
Courtesy of the Thunder Radio Network Oka see twenty four
and one on the year, and they average margin of
victory is seventeen and a half the NBA record They
said it last season twelve point nine for an entire
season margin of victory. Wow, that's your play of the day.
(33:18):
Play of the day brought to you by the great
folks at ty Iraq. They've been doing it for over
forty years now. The right tires for how and what
and where you drive ship fast and free back by
free road hazard protection with convenient installation options like mobile
tire installation, tire raq dot com the way tire buying
should be. Here's an interesting part of okc's dominance in
(33:39):
twenty five games. How many times has shay Gilgess Alexander
played in the fourth quarter?
Speaker 7 (33:46):
Pauli, He has sat in thirteen fourth quarters of their
twenty five games. And they did a little research on this.
I just saw it this morning. He's averaging thirty three
minutes a game. He's averaging a thirty two point six
a game. If he had played in those fourth quarters,
even half of them, based off his usage rate, his
points per game would be thirty six points six Right now, Well.
Speaker 2 (34:11):
That's an impressive team and no reason to think, well
that they won't stay that way barring injury. They have
draft picks, the subs get to play in the fourth quarter.
Everybody should be happy, everybody getting numbers there. And you
don't see you know, Oka, See when they had Durant
and they had hardened in Westbrook, we thought they were built,
(34:32):
they were set to go, and then all of a sudden,
Kd's like I'm out of here. Harden wanted to have
his own team, and then Westbrook was the only guy
left standing. That doesn't appear to be the case for OKC.
And they're going to have a couple of lottery picks
in the upcoming draft as well. That's why I don't
know if you package those picks, because there's only so
many players you can have. Now, you can send them
(34:54):
to the G League, but you have all of these
players you want to give them playing time. Now you're
going to bring in a couple more rookies, and what
are you going to do with those players who have
been with you the last couple of years. I think
that'll be kind of the It's a good problem to have, yes, Morvon.
Speaker 6 (35:11):
And the crazy thing is this draft has a couple
of guys that seem to be franchise changing players like
Cam Boozer and Debonza from uh BYU and from BYU.
So what if they get a top two pick, you
might have a franchise changer added on to Shay and jail.
Speaker 7 (35:28):
It and check yeah, paulin based off the odds, right now,
Oklahoma City would have the third pick of the draft.
They got it from the Clippers because it was unprotected. Unprotected?
Speaker 2 (35:39):
Is this the gift that keeps on giving the Paul
George Paul George legacy. Paul George's deal might go down
in history as a worse deal than the herschel Walker deal.
Speaker 7 (35:50):
It's getting better by year for Oklahoma City. Don't have
unprotected picks. We've always said that here in the Dan
Patrick Show.
Speaker 2 (35:55):
But the Cowboys they'll won three Super Bowls if OKAC
would win three NBA titles. Boy, you can make a
strong argument that deal was one of the worst one
sided deals in history.
Speaker 3 (36:08):
Yeah pulling.
Speaker 7 (36:08):
As of right now, the thunder have four first round
draft picks in twenty twenty six and three first round
draft picks in twenty twenty seven.
Speaker 3 (36:16):
Unbelievable. Unbelievable. Isaac and All in Atlanta, Isaac in Atlanta, Hey, hey,
you do what I'm good man. You know it was
a long over here creating the fuss. Why want to
start the rum with that?
Speaker 2 (36:31):
Tom Brady wants to come be the coach or general
manager in Michigan and save as Alma monor. No, he's
got too many jobs. He gets well compensated for one
day a week doing a game, and he's also a
minority owner of the Raiders.
Speaker 3 (36:45):
Kevin in Austin, Hi, Kevin, what's on your mind?
Speaker 4 (36:50):
Maybe be a couple of things for you and a question.
Speaker 3 (36:54):
One.
Speaker 4 (36:56):
You know, obviously, what happened yesterday after coach Moore left
the building was just horrible, And you know, I hope
everybody's okay. But two, on a previous life, I used
to work as a low level staffer at a major
Division one program and the ripple effect that's happening right
now with these assistant coaches, these graduate assistants, these quality
(37:17):
control a lot of these guys that don't make a
lot of money who have to go home and go
I don't know where we're going to be next week
or whatever. Is something I wish we'd shed some light on.
And then the other question I wanted to ask. You
said that the portal for these kids opens up December
thirty first.
Speaker 3 (37:35):
Is that correct?
Speaker 2 (37:37):
Let me see if I have the exec Let's see
the transfer portals said to open on January second. It's
a fifteen day window to enter the portal. Onces a
new head coaches higher.
Speaker 4 (37:54):
Well, they played Texas the thirty first of December.
Speaker 3 (37:57):
Oh, I know they got the Centrist Bowl.
Speaker 2 (38:00):
Thanks for the phone call, And that's what I That
was the point I made early in the show, was
you show up for work and you're going to prepare
for the Citrus Bowl. Now, maybe he wasn't showing up
for work because he already knew that he was going
to be fired. But this week he's probably still showing
up getting ready for the Citrus Bull. While there's conversations
(38:22):
going on and you're wondering, are they going to fire me,
and then once they do, then we saw what happened
to him.
Speaker 3 (38:35):
I mean.
Speaker 2 (38:37):
It's one of those where wait a minute, what happened?
And then all of a sudden you go, wait a minute,
what else happened? I mean, thankfully it wasn't as bad
as it could have been, given what the story is
right now that he's threatening the girl he was allegedly
having an affair with, and himself and his poor wife
(38:59):
with three little ones at home, and you got handed
this great job.
Speaker 3 (39:07):
You got handed Michigan. Yeah, Paulieu.
Speaker 7 (39:12):
Looking at the NCA rules, there's a normal transfer portal
window in early January, like you said, but once they
hire a new coach Michigan, there's a temporary portal for
those current Michigan players standard NCA rules.
Speaker 3 (39:23):
Kevin and Dayton, Hi Kevin, what's on your mind?
Speaker 10 (39:27):
Good morning Dan. I'm a long time listener since WTUE.
Just a couple of things I think that you know,
I would like, since I go to the first four
every year, I would like to see the the sixteen
troves at the bottom four play for the last two
slots in the playoffs make it to the top twelve.
(39:50):
And I think everybody in Ohio is worried that Patricio
may go.
Speaker 3 (39:56):
To Patricia's going to take the Michigan job.
Speaker 2 (40:04):
You know, I can't say no, I can't say that
will never happen because not in today's current climate. But
if you're Michigan, are you going to be steadfast We've
got to have a Michigan guy or are you just
going to take the best guy that you can get
right now? I don't know how picky you can be
with this, but I mean you imagine trying to talk
(40:26):
to all of those kids right now or individually, the
parents are probably saying, way a minute, what is going on?
Speaker 3 (40:34):
The agent's involved in this? Oh my god? And it's
happening right now.
Speaker 2 (40:42):
And had this happen two weeks ago, would Matt Campbell
have been offered that job, He would have been a candidate.
Would he have taken the Michigan job instead of Penn State. Yeah, Meanwhile,
we've not talked about Lane Kifan any more or Notre
(41:02):
Dame anymore. That happened quickly, Yes.
Speaker 6 (41:05):
Marvin An Il fundraisers coming your way in Michigan.
Speaker 3 (41:08):
Oh Man, gonna have yard sale, tag Saale out there.
Speaker 2 (41:16):
More on this Coming up next hour, the great ESPN
writer Dan Wetzel stops by. Rob Grenkowski is going to
join us from Vail. Coming up, final hour of the program. Yeah,
he's out there skiing. You imagine Gronk on the slopes.
Speaker 3 (41:31):
Ah. One hour in the books. Two more to go
on this Thursday, Dan and The Dan and Stan Patrick Show.
