Dan isn’t convinced the Steelers’ victory last night makes them any kind of contender and he believes Tua Tagovailoa just isn’t good enough to be a starting QB in the NFL. And he shares some surprising stats about ACL injuries in the NFL after both Micah Parsons and Patrick Mahomes go down on the same weekend.

(00:46):
Sports Radio as well. Steelers handled the Dolphins twenty eight
point fifteen. It was more impressive than the final score.
There was some garbage time touchdowns there with the Dolphins.
Pittsburg is now eight and six, Miami is now six
and eight. But you start to look at the Steelers
now the rest of the season. At eight and six,

(01:07):
they're a game up on the Ravens. The Steelers at
the Lions, at the Browns and they host the Ravens.
Ravens will host the Patriots. They're at the Packers and
then they host the Steelers. So Steelers can win out
and if they do went out, then they're going to
be in. As for the Ravens, if they went out,

(01:30):
they're going to probably be in, or at least Steelers
would have the tiebreaker. Right now, I believe in the division.
But at eight and six is everything? Okay, they didn't
have TJ. Watt last night. Aaron Rodgers looked pretty good.
But man, I watched that Dolphins offense. I thought they
were going to run the football. I just thought, here
we go. You don't have TJ. Watt. We're running the

(01:52):
football and we'll sprinkle in some passes and then all
of a sudden, Mike McDaniel is asked this question about
his core quarter back after the game.

Speaker 3 (02:02):
I think it would be very rash and short sighted
if I even tried to tackle that option. You know,
I think I have to look at the tape and
and I'll move on from there. But realistically, I'm just

(02:22):
supremely disappointed that, you know, we couldn't come out with
a win here.

Speaker 2 (02:28):
Yeah, they ran a two minute drill, and even Troy
Aikman said, why did it take so long? They should
have come out as a two minute drill if they
weren't going to run the football, just do a two
minute drill the entire game and just see how this
is going to play out there. But I think that
was what was surprising is Troy's like, why did it
take you so long? Here's Troy Aikman on the call.

Speaker 4 (02:49):
This is just a bizarre last few series, and they
don't go hurry up.

Speaker 2 (02:53):
Now they're going hurry up calling timeouts.

Speaker 5 (02:55):
It's just it's hard to understand exactly what the philosophy.

Speaker 2 (03:00):
Took it out, so they need delay game on top
of it. By the way, Troy has no more filter,
which is great. He just he's kind of like that
old guy. You get to a certain age and I
know that age where you're allowed to say things and
people go and now he's just old. I mean Troy's
not old, but in you know, broadcaster years, where like
he's been around a long time. You know, you just

(03:23):
say what you feel. Peyton does that, but he's not
broadcasting the games. Tom Brady, I hope gets to that
point where you just you're honest with what you see
and you say it. And Troy has been doing that
the last couple of years. But the Steelers improved to
eight and six. I don't know how good you feel
if you're a Steeler fan, just say, all right, win
the division, host a playoff game, maybe get bounced in

(03:46):
the first round, or maybe you win the game. But
you know, the script sounds familiar. You haven't won a
game in a long long time. You're the Steelers, You
are used to being a championship team, and what you
saw last night is that sustainable. I don't know when TJ.
Watt is going to come back, but Aaron Rodgers played well,

(04:11):
you know, and once again the Dolphins with a couple
of garbage touchdowns made it seem like it was a
little bit closer than that, but it wasn't. But you know,
Miami's got some issues here obviously because they sort of
had a fire sale. But then they started to win games.
And now you have the do you keep your coach?
Did you see enough with your coach? The fact that

(04:33):
these last three games are they going to play hard?
And then you got the two wik question because you're
going to owe him close to what forty five million
dollars next year, and then you're going to probably move
on from him. And it's weird when you watch. You know,
you can be a really bright quarterback. You can put

(04:55):
the ball in the right place and you don't have
to have a great arm, but there are times when
you do. You have to have an arm that you
can put something in and you can do it from
twenty yards out. And that's my concern with tua I
just he can give you the precision kind of passing
and you know, ten yards this way, five yards this way.

(05:17):
He doesn't threaten me if I'm a defensive back, Like,
I'm not worried about him unless somebody actually runs an
incredible route and is wide open. But you don't see
that very often, and it feels like everything is right
in front of the defense, the defensive backs, and it's
just non threatening. I really thought a Chant was going

(05:37):
to have a dominating game. I thought he was going
to run for one hundred and fifty yards. I thought
that was going to be the philosophy. And then you watch,
First of all, that was a very boring game to start,
like you're going, come on, guys, pick it up, come on,
let's go. And then it got a little interesting. And
then the Steelers scored four consecutive drives, and then all

(05:57):
of a sudden, the Dolphins go, hey, why don't we
try a two minute drill? Hey, there's a little success here.
But you start to look at a bigger picture with
the Dolphins. You got to get a new GM. You
see a new GM brings in a coach. Has Mike
McDaniel done enough where you go he still feels like

(06:17):
an offensive coordinator? He just does. And you know, I've
said this many times, not everybody is a head coach.
Not everybody should be a head coach because it takes
different talents to be a head coach. Offensive coordinator, you
got one job. You deal with that. When you're the
CEO of the team. Every press conference, you're asked questions offense, defense,

(06:39):
special teams, dealing with management, all of that, dealing with
the draft, free agency, all of that. But when you're
a coordinator, you get locked in and you're really good
at what you do. We love to go how he
deserves to get a head coaching job. There's a lot
of guys who shouldn't be or shouldn't have been head
coaches that well, you got to give him a chance.

(07:02):
Sometimes if you're an owner, you know that guy doesn't
have the capabilities of being a head coach, but he's
really really good. Like Leo Mazzoni was a great pitching
coach for the Braves, but I didn't look at him
as a manager. I looked at him as he is
specialized in that Charlie Weiss, I didn't look at him

(07:23):
as a head coach. I looked at him as an
off you know, as a really good coordinator. Romeo Cronell
with the Patriots, really good coordinator, but not a head coach.
And I look at Mike McDaniel and look have we
had him on and we enjoy his you know, the conversation. Absolutely,
he's quirky, it's fun, different. But I look at him

(07:45):
as a coordinator. Now, I'm sure he'll get a job someplace.
I don't know if they'll keep him in Miami. But
you you know, you got the Tyreek Hill situation. What
are you gonna do with waddle? Like you it feels
like you have a couple of pieces there. It's just
it starts with the quarterback and I just don't think
that he is a starting quarterback until further notice. Yeah, Paulie, the.

Speaker 6 (08:07):
Tyreek Hill situation, it might be the biggest of the situations.
A lot of people thought they would trade him before
the trade deadline, then he got injured. I mean, there's
a lot of speculation. His dead cap hit if they
released him is twenty nine million dollars. If they keep him,
you don't have they have to pay him next year
fifty million bucks to play wide receiver fifty million. All
most of his money is on the back end of

(08:28):
that last year of his contract fifty million.

Speaker 2 (08:31):
Yeah, I don't think he's there next year. That might
be additioned by subtraction. I just don't want to get
into an Antonio Brown situation where you know he's going
to be selfish and he's gonna want touches, and you
know he can be incredible, but you know, coming off
an injury and that kind of price tag, I don't

(08:54):
want that. But you know you're going to take that hit,
and then the following year, you know you'll probably get
rid of Tua. It's just it's been twenty I think
twenty five years since the Dolphins have won a playoff game.
Can you check on that. I think that's I mean,
we talk about you know, hey, the Steelers haven't had

(09:15):
won a playoff game in what ten years? Nine years?
I don't think the Dolphins have won a playoff game
in twenty five years.

Speaker 6 (09:21):
Yeah, Paul December thirtieth, two thousand against the Colts in
overtime of the wild card round.

Speaker 2 (09:26):
Yeah. Stat of the day brought to you by Panani America,
the official trading cards of the Dan Patrick Show. This
first hour brought to you by the great folks at
Mako Dense Dan's Faded Paint. They got you covered. Get
a free estimate today. Uh oh, better get maco all right?

(09:49):
See pull question? First hour, the program is going to
be what.

Speaker 7 (09:52):
Well we got one here for the Dolphins. Can we
ask what went wrong with the Dolphins? The head coach
or the quarterback? I don't know if that's fare.

Speaker 1 (10:04):
Well.

Speaker 2 (10:04):
All I can do is go on what I said
in real time. I never would have given him that contract.
I would have franchised him. I would have made him
show me one more time. Now he's been healthier. Now
the focus is on his play. And I remember when
Tyreek Hill he came out, he said, my quarterback is
the most accurate quarterback in the NFL. And you know, great,

(10:25):
he did say some nice things about Tua, But I
just I would say the quarterback he's just not he's
not an elite quarterback. Doesn't mean he still can't play.
I just I don't think he threatens you. Like there's
certain quarterbacks where you go, uh oh, right, Mahomes is

(10:45):
like that, Josh Allen's like that, Lamar's like that. Joe
Burrow when he's healthy is like that. Justin Herbert's becoming that,
even bo Nix is becoming that. There's a whole list
of quarterbacks where you go uh oh, two is like
uh oh.

Speaker 8 (11:00):
So what you're saying is Tua is a starting quarterback.
He's not a franchise quarterback.

Speaker 2 (11:05):
Yeah. Yeah, he's the starting quarterback now, but it might
be he gets to that place where next year after
next year, then he's kind of hanging out there and
it sounds like he's a bad quarterback. I just I
want my quarterback. You have to account for him, You
got to worry about him. You got a game plan

(11:25):
for him. And I don't think that he does that
to you. I think you gain plan more for eight
Chan than you do for Tua.

Speaker 6 (11:32):
Yeah, Paul, I'm not trying to jab him. But back
in the day when Alex Smith was on the Chiefs,
he was a good quarterback, led them to some good seasons,
was a very solid player, probably above average and consistent.
But they said, this is as far as we can
go with this guy, and they went with Mahmes.

Speaker 2 (11:47):
Yeah. And look, we've had him on usually every Super
Bowl we've had him on. He was a guest when
he was in college and we liked him. But my
job is not to like somebody as much as to
observe cover have an opinion on somebody. All right, eight
seven to seven three DP show email address DP at
dan Patrick dot com, Twitter handle atp show. You know,

(12:10):
speaking of threatening, are the Steelers threatening because we're going
to get to the playoffs and if they're hosting a
playoff game, they won the division, you're going to be
in the wild card round? Are they threatening? I would
say they're not. But if I was going to go
one to ten, one to ten, let's say ten is

(12:32):
Super Bowl super Bowl threatening? I would say they're probably
of five of five soft five. Yeah, this is not threatening. No,
that is not a threat. No, no, but dangerous. You

(12:54):
don't think. I don't know. I don't and you know,
maybe it's one of the where you get a run
and all of a sudden, Aaron Rodgers is magical like
he was last night. He played really well. They played well,
and the Dolphins aren't very good. Even though the Dolphins
came in, they're playing pretty well when Tua came in

(13:14):
and all of a sudden, you saw him outside. So
I'm watching the pregame and I think he took off.
He had some kind of a wool hat and he
took it off just to go and let me feel this.
He quick quickly put it back on, and I was like,
if I'm a gambler, I'm going all in on the
Steelers with this. And what was the line last night?

(13:36):
It was like three. I thought, Man, they must think
this Dolphin team is going to play well in cold weather. Yeah, Paulie,
I think they only.

Speaker 6 (13:46):
Hit Aaron Rodgers. They had no pass rush on Aaron
Rodgers last night, and he picked him up.

Speaker 4 (13:49):
Part.

Speaker 6 (13:50):
It's hard to picture Aaron Rodgers having a great game
against the Broncos or a team like that where the
pass rush is all day. So that means they're as
threatening as they could protect him.

Speaker 2 (14:00):
Rogers was twenty three to twenty seven two touchdowns, the
oldest player in NFL history to complete at least eighty
five percent of his pass attempts. Philip Rivers mate have
something to say about this this weekend? Yes, uh, the
opening line was three and a half. There was a
three point thah. Yeah, that's where I kept thinking, Okay,

(14:20):
what am I missing here? Usually they're they're correct when
they have these betting lines where you go, damn all right,
bills are favored by one and a half in New England,
then you had the Packers favored over the Broncos. We
know how that went. So sometimes it doesn't work. But
a lot of times you go, man, what did they
know that I don't know? And that's why I thought
that was a credibility. Hey, you're only a three point

(14:45):
underdog Miami on the road in December in Pittsburgh and
Pittsburgh without TJ. Watt. We'll get to your phone calls
coming up eight seven seven three DP show. Vince in
Austin leads us off. Good morning, Vince, what's on your mind?

Speaker 9 (15:00):
Hey guys, good morning. If I don't see you next
week or hear from you next week. You guys have
a very mirror christ and awesome year. Anyway, what I
want to talk about is much has been made about
Philip Rivers and his many offspring can hey, Nick Cannon Fish,
Oh my beer. What I really want to suggest somebody

(15:24):
in our office is from the Pittsburgh area, and that
Hard Peterson. At the end of the year, we were
rallied on him, say how could you let this guy go?
Say wait and see, wait and see. Oh we're waiting
and see you we shaw and for George Dickens, hey
tire Owens say oh my beer.

Speaker 2 (15:43):
Hey, hey, uh, there's a reason why he was let go.
And he's done pretty well in Dallas. Now do you
want to give him thirty million dollars a year? I wouldn't,
but they may, Jerry may feel like, hey, I can't
pass this up. And you know what, the Cowboys are
in a pretty good situation right now when you think

(16:06):
about moves they made, and if you feel like you
know your offense is going to be comfortable now, you
load up and you improve that defense the secondary and
maybe you got something next year, something to build on.
And it's not often when I say that about the Cowboys,
but they they have something to build on here. And

(16:26):
you know, as long as Dax stays healthy, the wide
receivers play nice. You got a tight end, uh, you know,
got a running game. So there's real potential there for
Dallas with the moves that they made this year. We're
going to talk about acls because it felt like there
was a wave of ACL injuries over the weekend and

(16:48):
when you had Mahomes and you had Michael Parsons. Now
all of a sudden, they are like people who are like, wait,
is this a trend. I'm going to give you some
numbers about acls in the last five to seven years
that I think really surprise you about that injury. We'll
take a break. We're just getting started on this Tuesday
once again Jim Harbaugh. At the top of the hour.

(17:08):
We'll also talk to Joe Thomas, the Browns Hall of
Fame tackle and Mike Golick Senior as well. We're back

Speaker 2 (17:55):
Comment away. It's the question that won't go away. We
keep asking it. Klin de Boor, the Alabama head coach,
was asked if he is staying at Alabama.

Speaker 11 (18:07):
Just for clarity's sake, so things aren't left up to interpretation.
Are you gonna be the coach of Alabama next year?

Speaker 7 (18:13):
Man?

Speaker 11 (18:14):
Come on, Nick, I put a statement out yesterday because
I just, first of all, our guys handled distractions phenomenally.
It's been that way all season long. They continue to
do that, and so you know, feel completely supported. My
family loves living here, just all the things that we
continue to build on, love the progress. Haven't talked with anyone,

(18:34):
no plans of talking with anyone.

Speaker 8 (18:35):
So just for clarification and going back to the next question,
will you be the coach at Alabama?

Speaker 9 (18:41):
Nex plant?

Speaker 11 (18:42):
I'm here, yes, Nick, Yes, Charlie.

Speaker 2 (18:45):
Yes, Okay. I think he was pretty clear there. But
that's yesterday. He might be asked again today, and then
what about Friday they play Oklahoma and then that's a
I think a one and a half point spread there
with the rematch. If Alabama doesn't play well, he's going

(19:10):
to get those questions again. But you still see these
odds of who's going to take you. You know, the
favorite for Michigan. I was told last week it was
Jed Fish at Washington. They won their bull game, their
season is over. He's got Michigan ties. But you know,
the longer this goes on, it feels like maybe who

(19:30):
they're targeting might still be coaching. But here's what was
told to me yesterday. Why would you take that job?
Right now? It is a mess internally at Michigan and
internal investigations into the athletic department. I mean, they've got
third parties that are looking at everything going on at Michigan,

(19:52):
and if you're a coach going into that, there's going
to be a lot going on and will continue to
go on when you take that job. Is it still
a great job. Yes, but this might prevent somebody from
jumping into something and not really knowing exactly what's going
to come out of this. So you know they're on
the clock because that transfer portal and holding on to

(20:14):
these kids and the new recruits that you brought in
Michigan and they got a Bowl game at the end
of the month. All right, I was talking about acls.
There was an article that came out yesterday. I think
it was a post that got three million views, and
it had to do with the rash of acls. So

(20:34):
you start to look at Michael Parsons, Patrick Mahomes, Nick Bosa,
Malik Neighbors, Tyreek Hill, Tucker Kraft, zach Ertz, Marshaun Lattimore,
Najie Harris, and Daniel Jones. So naj Harris and Daniel
Jones they had achilles injuries, everybody else torn acls, and
people thought, well, wait a minute, here is this a trend.

(20:56):
So thirty acls have been torn so far this season.
Now that sounds like a lot well the previous year.
So it's thirty in counting with three weeks to go.
In twenty twenty four, thirty eight, twenty twenty three, forty three,
twenty twenty two, fifty one, twenty twenty one, fifty seven,

(21:19):
So it's actually down. And I don't know if this
year is an anomaly or maybe we're trending down, but
it certainly looks with those numbers that we've gone down
every year in the last five years. Prior to that
twenty twenty there were forty two, thirty four and twenty nineteen.
Then it went to fifty three, fifty two, forty nine,

(21:40):
fifty forty five. Twenty thirteen there were sixty three torn acls.
So maybe we're trending down and there's really nothing you
can do. I mean, you can strengthen the muscles around
your knee, but as far as an ACL and MCL,
PCL and LCL, you know, given what these guys go through,

(22:04):
and you know you don't you got some skill guys
here Parsons, Mahon Bosa, Neighbors, Tyreek Hill. You know these
are it feels like everything's a skilled position now. But
you know, some is artificial turf, some is natural turf.
That's the study that I would want if I was
going to say, let's do a study on these acls,

(22:26):
I would say, Okay, what's the turf? How often on
aster turf? How often on natural turf? Why can't we
come up with a universal turf that's inside and outside
that we the NFL commission And therefore, if you want
to have a concert on a Tuesday night, you know,
the Bears had a concert what eight days before they

(22:47):
played their game against the Browns, So you're going to
tear up the field, you know, That's what I'm trying
to understand. Is it the field? Is that the turf?
Is it maybe shoes that you're wearing. But and I'm
sure the NFL, at least I hope they are. They've

(23:09):
you know, commissioned to study to look at this. But
these are numbers that you should at least know. Why
are we having these acls. Is there something that is
maybe suspicious with this or something we could pinpoint on this,
But you know the fact that it's thirty in counting.
But when you have star players get hurt, that's when
we take notice. Micah Parsons and Patrick Mahomes, two of

(23:32):
the biggest names offensively and defensively in the game. Michael
Parsons non contact ACL, that's what I want to know,
Patrick Mahomes got hit and landed on But I want
to know, you know, Malik Neighbors. You know, the Meadowlands
turf famously bad for a long long time. But if

(23:55):
the NFL is going to look at this and we're
going to go to an eighteen game schedule, I think
we got to be fair to these players that there
are certain that. I mean, I watched the Commander the
turf when RG three got hurt. That was criminal. But
you see some of these fields. I'll go back to
the field when the Dolphin or in Miami it was

(24:17):
the Bengals against the Niners with Joe Montana and a
Bengal lineman, Tim Crumrae blew out his knee and the
turf was terrible. We've had a couple of Super Bowls
where the players talk about the turf is slick and
guys falling down in the Super Bowl. So that to
me is what's alarming. Not that a thirty in counting.

(24:39):
Oh my god, Mahomes and Michael Parsons, Malik Neighbors, Okay,
did they get hurt non contact? Where did they get hurt?
Did they get hurt on natural turf? Astro turf. Can
we come up with something that's universal so these players
can prepare for that, because you don't want to go
to a game and go what kind of shoes can
I wear? Yeah?

Speaker 7 (24:58):
Seton ye eating a thing here From the NFLPA, it
says that data supports that artificial turf is significantly harder
on the body than grass.

Speaker 2 (25:09):
Yeah.

Speaker 7 (25:10):
Specifically, players have a twenty eight percent higher rate of
non contact lower extremity injuries when playing on artificial turf.
Of those non contact injuries, players have a thirty two
percent higher rate of non contact knee injuries on turf
and a sixty nine percent higher rate of non contact
foot and ankle injuries on turf compared to on grash.

(25:33):
So the knee injury it goes up thirty two percent,
but the ankle injuries is sixty nine percent on turf.

Speaker 2 (25:39):
Yeah, and if you've ever played on it or even
walked on it, and then you wonder. You know, players
have talked about certain surfaces feel like concrete, and especially
in December, when you fall and all of a sudden,
it's like, I mean, you bounce off those it doesn't
help absorb anything. Yeah.

Speaker 7 (25:57):
See, and I think the thing with turf is that
it isn't so much how hard it is, it's that
your foot sticks differently, and that's why you end up
getting these ankle and foot injuries, knee injuries, because the turf.

Speaker 2 (26:09):
Is just so much more sticky. But you've got marquee
guys Michael Parsons, Patrick Mahomes, Nick Bosum, Leak Neighbors, Tyreek Hill,
Like these are marquee players getting hurt.

Speaker 6 (26:19):
Yeah, PAULI, I went back and you mentioned the Washington
Commanders back when they were the Redskins. Robert Griffin iid
his injury in the twenty thirteen NFL Wildcard game that
completely disrailed derailed his career. That field is horrid looking.
I know it's late December, but it looked like something
for a bunch of kids would play in a park
that was unattended. There's just chunks of dirt and very

(26:40):
little grass. He plants his foot in a pile of
dirt and that's it.

Speaker 2 (26:44):
Yeah, that felt like it was a lawsuit waiting to happen. Oh,
this feels awful. It is. It was embarrassing to watch that.
And it's a playoff game. That's where owners get together
and maybe come up with a product, commission a study,
and maybe they've done this. But I'm just looking at
these numbers, and everybody was going, oh my god, look

(27:06):
at all of those torn acls. And then you realize, no,
you can go back. You can go back to twenty
eighteen when we had fifty three of these, fifty two,
forty nine, fifty twenty twenty one, fifty seven. We're actually
trending in a better direction. But I just wonder, can

(27:26):
you come up with something that can be used both
indoor and out or maybe you just have indoor and
you have outdoor so these players can at least know
what's in store. And you've got to test this in
the weather. What's it like in September, what's it like
in January? Because and maybe it has something to do
with the shoes that you're wearing as well, But it

(27:49):
seems like an alarming number because a couple of Marquee
guys got hurt and are done for the year. It's
not an alarming number. Now, I don't know where everybody was,
including myself, in twenty twenty one when they were fifty
seven tornyc heals. No, that seems to be an alarming number.
All right, we'll get phone calls coming up. Eight seven

(28:10):
seven three DP show email address DP at Danpatrick dot com.

Speaker 6 (28:15):
Yeah, Pauline, I just found this from NFL dot com
and it was published yesterday, December fifteen, twenty twenty five.
Safety and Consistency and Field Services NFL and NFLPA mandatory practices.
They've just made an announcement with the Joint NFL Services Committee,
which I didn't know. They had develop higher standards and
establish greater consistency across NFL playing services. I'll send this around,

(28:38):
but the NFL dot com press release went out yesterday
at three thirty five about this topic coincidentally.

Speaker 2 (28:44):
Yeah, it's been in play. Yeah, but why why why? Now?
Where was this before? Once again, when you get big
names that get hurt, then all of a sudden people
want to answers. Here Allison Pittsburgh, Hi Alis, what's on
your mind today?

Speaker 12 (28:58):
Hi Dan? Thanks for taking my us call. Talking about
the Steelers. And I'm a Steelers fan long time since
the seventies. They're not consistent enough, like they still make
me nervous. They looked good last night, but it was
the Dolphins. I think having Marcus Scantling. I can't remember
his middle.

Speaker 13 (29:17):
Name anyway, I think that he was the other guy. Yeah,
I mean he looked the last night that Aaron's played
with him before. We never know what Steelers team is
going to show up, but.

Speaker 2 (29:31):
It feels and I feel your pain now. But here's
the thing. You've had years, decades where you knew what
to expect. You should know what to expect out of
the Steelers. Is they're just a little better than average.
It's not They're not going to be great now. They
may have moments, drives, passes, runs, you know, defensive places,

(29:52):
they're just not this is who they are. They're a
little better than an average team. H Andrew Washington, I Andrew,
what's on your mint today?

Speaker 14 (30:02):
Hey, good morning, Dan Dennetts. Thanks for taking my call.
Real quick before we get to the surfaces, because I
was going to talk about that I had some of
that information that POLYI had. But shout out to Cooper
Flag youngest NBA player ever to have forty points in
a game last night, also the only player ever born
in Maine to have forty points in the NBA. But
that surces. This thing didn't get released yesterday. It actually

(30:24):
was agreed upon December fourth. I'm sure they just put
the press release out yesterday just to solidify all the
injuries that happened to the Homes and Parsons. But yeah,
in twenty twenty six, any new or replaced surface must
meet the new standards of this new agreement, and by
twenty twenty eight all NFL stadiums must have approved fields.

(30:44):
I don't know if that's you know, synthetic or if
it's grass, but hey, Dan real Quick, last night's game,
four consecutive TD drives for the Steelers for the first
time since Week two of twenty eighteen. They lost that
game because back in twenty eighteen, that was one of
two Patin Mahomes has had six touchdowns in a game.
So just a quick stat Thanks guys.

Speaker 2 (31:05):
All right, thank you Andrew, Thank you. Buddha in San Francisco, Hi, Buddha,
what's on your mind today?

Speaker 5 (31:13):
What um DP? Happy Tuesday, boys, Let's go Seaton. June
third will forever be celebrated as hot take Day. As
the Chief stout out this past weekend, I was like, man,
that was some proclamation by him. Bloop t u seton
and Dan real Quick, I was watching Vampezie last night
and after the game, I did not know Mike Tiland

(31:33):
Mike Tomlin.

Speaker 4 (31:34):
Was twelve and oh on Monday night football. I thought
that was a sneaky stat And DP, why I really
wanted to call in today was about the Nick Ride
interview yesterday and I had to take to bring this up.
But I agreed with his MVP take yesterday, and I
never agree with his takes. I mean, but I feel
like the MVP award is comprised of like recency bias

(31:55):
in the last few weeks of the year, and then
like not the totality of the year like he was.
And Dan, I'm one hundred percent with the Dannet collective.
You cannot put Nick Wright's picture next to Al Michaels.
That's like the Marquis space. Maybe we're starting out in
the BRG bathroom or something. And lastly, Dan, I have
a documentary.

Speaker 2 (32:14):
Question for you.

Speaker 4 (32:15):
I know you've mentioned and spoken about your affinity for
Biggest Malls. He's one of my favorite rappers RIP, but
I was wondering if you watched the latest Shancomb documentary.

Speaker 2 (32:26):
It is wild how he ran his world. I have
not stopped to watch it. Paulie watched a little bit
of it, so I was I was waiting to see
if it was worth watching.

Speaker 6 (32:39):
Yeah, Pauli, it's if you want the backstory of the
past twenty five years in that company.

Speaker 2 (32:45):
Everyone's talking now, well this is Fitty sent right, he's
you see, the one that commissioned this documentary. I don't know.

Speaker 7 (32:53):
Yeah, yeah, fifty he did the documentary. It's a little
unclear as to how he got a lot of the footage.
There's some scandal about that. And I mean, yeah, it
is a it's a documentary from fifties perspective.

Speaker 2 (33:09):
Yeah, and that's where some people have a problem because
it's slanted that he hates p Diddy. But yeah, I haven't.
I haven't watched it.

Speaker 8 (33:18):
Yeah, Mark, you should watch it because yes, fifty hates
Puff and that's not a secret. But the woman that
directed it, she's pretty clear on no, no, no, no, this
can't be a hit piece all of this stuff, like
you got people that were there thirty years ago, like, no, no, no,
this isn't like some type of hit piece. This is
stuff that he actually did, and there's video to prove it,

(33:38):
and there's like before you know, never before seen footage
and stuff like that. But if you're into it, it's
four it's four hours, four.

Speaker 7 (33:46):
Different parts if you want to It's not a great
look for puff uh, it's it is not good at all.
As if it could get worse, it is, yeah, significantly
significantly worse. Yeah, And you know, I feel bad. There
were a couple of women who were brave enough to
come forward years and years ago, and nobody would listen
to them that see was a very very powerful person.

(34:09):
All right, well, take a break.

Speaker 2 (34:10):
We will update our poll results Jim Harbaugh at the
top of the hour. Up next, it is our play

Of the day play.

Speaker 1 (34:36):
This is the play of the day.

Speaker 14 (34:39):
Check this out.

Speaker 2 (34:40):
Rogers in the shotgun taps both sides of the helmet,
one on the plate clock gets us nap Dolphins bringing
pressure throw over the middle. It is complete. The dk
metcalp pearls aside one defender zone for the Pittsburgh Steelers. Touchdown.
My dk metcalm Steelers score on four consecutive drives for

(35:02):
the first time since twenty eighteen. That's courtesy of the
Steelers Radio Network. That's your play of the day. Play
of the Day brought to you by tirec dot Com

how and what and where you drive, ship fast and

options like mobile tire installation. Tirec dot Com the way

(35:24):
tire buying should be. It really sounds simple. If you're
the commissioner, you say to the owners when you go
to the owner's meetings, Hey, guys, how about we come
up with some kind of universal commission to look at
the turf. Maybe we do that a decade ago or
two decades ago that how about we protect our players?

(35:46):
How about we protect our stars. Now, all of a sudden,
you announce that there's going to be a study, and
you announce it yesterday. The commissioner's job is to help
the owners make money, not have the owners spend money
that they don't want to spend. It should be incumbent
upon the commissioner to ensure that these players have a

(36:07):
safe environment. It's not a safe game, but it shouldn't
be Hey, how'd you get injured? Non contact injury? Blew
out my ACL Yeah.

Speaker 7 (36:18):
Yeah, I think it's the players Association to make sure
that the players have a safe environment.

Speaker 2 (36:24):
That is one hundred percent their role owners. I don't
think they feel that way at all. Yeah, but the
owners own the stadium, correct, and the Players Association is
not that strong to be able to stand up to
these guys. But yes, when they have a collective bargaining agreement,
how about we are part of that study that will

(36:44):
help come up with natural turf, aster turf, what is safe?
You should be able to come up with a surface
that won't hurt players a non contact injury. That's where
you want to know. Okay, what exactly what happened on
this play? What happened to Micah Parsons one of the

(37:04):
best conditioned athletes that you'll find, you know, in any sport.
But even go back to soccer, and Seaton said this,
when Messi came over, the greatest soccer player in the world, goes,
there's certain surfaces I'm not playing on. He didn't want
to play on natural turf.

Speaker 7 (37:20):
Seaton, I think, well, no, I think a lot of
European players when they come over don't want to play
on artificial turf. Okay, right, because of the injury risk,
because they don't have that in the Premier League. No, No,
I don't think so, I don't. I'm pretty sure they
all play on grass. And I think when the World
Cup comes here, all of the stadiums that are hosting

(37:41):
those events have to switch to natural grass for that.
Oh boy, I think yeah.

Speaker 6 (37:45):
Pulling Historically the NFL, anytime there's a rash of injuries,
remember was it eight? Tom Brady gets hitting the knees.
No more hitting quarterbacks in the knees a couple of
years ago. The hip drop tackle, no more hip drop.
The horse collar, no more horse collar. There's no cost
to change those rules, but you change the field to
make a universal field the requirement. That's cost for every owner.

(38:08):
That's why they didn't do it, which is obvious.

Speaker 7 (38:09):
Yeah see, and I think you know, like what you
had said just a couple of minutes ago, makes sense
in a normal environment, why don't we do things to
make the game as safe as possible for the players. However,
even we say, probably just as recently as yesterday, if
the players don't care, why should I care. Well, they
don't care about their They don't care about their health,
So why should I care about their health? If they

(38:30):
don't care about the game being dangerous, why should I
care about the game being dangerous?

Speaker 2 (38:34):
And we're just fans. Imagine having you.

Speaker 7 (38:36):
Know, hundreds of millions of dollars or billions of dollars
into looking at these dudes like I don't care, then
get another running back.

Speaker 2 (38:42):
Yeah, but that's concussions. That's different than an ACL concussion.
You're not out, you know, for a year. ACL. You're
out for you know, six to nine months, maybe even
twelve months. That's that's the protection part of that. If
players are going to play the way they play, like
Mark Michael part is not changing the way he played
because he blew out his achilles. We're hoping Jackson Dart

(39:05):
plays differently because he's been in concussion protocol or have
symptoms for five times in ten games.

Speaker 7 (39:12):
So I don't know that the mindset changes from Well,
concussions is different. If they don't care about concussions, then
I don't care. But I do care about knee injuries.
That's actually really serious. Either you care about making the
game safer or you don't really, you know, and I
think by and large the mindset seems to be don't
really care.

Speaker 2 (39:27):
Yeah, but Jackson Dart is bringing contact. Micah Parsons got
hurt and had nothing to do with anybody hitting him. Yeah,
I understand that, but that's the point concussions. You're getting hit.
The non contact injury is what concerns me with these
playing fields. Yeah, Pauline.

Speaker 6 (39:47):
Yeah, and if you look at it, you talked about
this before. Players would rather get hit in the head
than hitting the knee. Well, was it the zach Ertz
hit the other day for Washington. His career is likely
over and that defensive back flew towards his knee helmet first,
and so he is done done. If he went to
the head, he's out two weeks.

Speaker 2 (40:03):
Well yeah, hines Ward told me that He's like, hey,
that's why I grabbed my ankle when I got hit
by ray Lewis in the head. I grabbed my ankle
because I knew if I my ankle, I can stay
in the game. But you get hit in the head.
Now you got a concussion. You're out of the game,
and you're okay, maybe you're out one or two weeks,
but the other injuries. Now these guys are done and

(40:25):
it's late in the season, so now that impacts next
season for Michael Parsons and Patrick Mahomes. Mahomes had his
surgery yesterday. Now I was surprised. I didn't know if
they had to wait for the swelling to go down.
I can only tell you when I had mine done
the first time, they had to wait for the swelling
to go down. But Mahomes is like, nope, cut me now. Yeah. See.

Speaker 7 (40:47):
It seems so odd to me though, that like there
is that split where you know, how many guys do
we know with CTE that are killing people or committing
suicide or whatever, And that's the one that is like, Hey,
if they don't care, I don't care.
