morning to you, bradon t Quinn.
Speaker 3 (01:00):
Good morning, a Mary blated Christmas Blated Mary I mean,
how do you even go about saying that the day after?
Speaker 4 (01:05):
Can you still say Merry Christmas? After Christmas?
Speaker 2 (01:08):
I don't think so. I think that's kind of a
that's that's a wrap. And then now did you do
the the typical tradition of you didn't even wait till
the end of the day and all the like, all
the lights, everything is down, decorations.
Speaker 3 (01:21):
Oh okay, all right, do you do you want to
just go ahead and give this some context for our
listeners understand the backstory here, just one Christmas.
Speaker 4 (01:27):
Now, all of a sudden, you know, I'm that guy.
Speaker 2 (01:31):
I'm with you, Like the second Christmas is over, that's
a wrap, it's time to stop.
Speaker 4 (01:38):
Okay. A few years ago we got I mean, our
kids get up so early. Our our our middle.
Speaker 3 (01:44):
Child, Cassidy's five, now she was probably two at the time,
but she was I mean she has always gotten up
early in the morning, probably like at.
Speaker 4 (01:52):
Six of the latest, so she would wake up the rest.
Speaker 3 (01:55):
Of the of our kids and they would all go
down to open gifts, so we'd be up early.
Speaker 4 (02:00):
We beat And by the way, anyone who goes through.
Speaker 3 (02:02):
Christmas with your kids, it's a wrap in like twenty minutes.
I mean all the time shopping, all the stress over
trying to make sure that you're getting your kid something
that they love, something that they want, everything that goes
along with that, and it's done in like twenty minute stops.
Speaker 2 (02:19):
It's a Kentucky Derby, it really is.
Speaker 3 (02:22):
And it's just like as a parent, you're like, oh yeah,
I forgot like all this build up.
Speaker 4 (02:27):
Then it goes by so fast.
Speaker 3 (02:29):
So it was a beautiful day and we really were
just kind of hanging out and playing.
Speaker 4 (02:34):
I think some of the kids end up taking a
nap and I.
Speaker 3 (02:35):
Was like, well, I've got to leave after this because
I had to work, so I think I was. I
was flying up the next day, so I'm like, I'm
gonna start taking stuff down so i don't have to
do this when I get back because I was gonna
be gone for a little bit. And now Jonas thinks
that I'm this like grinch, this ball humbug type guy
that as soon as Christmas ends, I just start taking
(02:56):
everything and down I'm no longer celebrating the holiday, which
is not the case. I although I will say our
tree is already at the curb right now.
Speaker 2 (03:03):
Yes, So gotta go. I'm with you. I'm with you
like it just it feels like you're just running up
the score a little bit. And I don't like to
live in false realities like it.
Speaker 4 (03:15):
Just you know, let's be real.
Speaker 3 (03:17):
This tree is on the curb because it was on
its last leg, all right. I needed I need to
find next year like a jose canseeco tree, you know,
one that's just like juiced to the gills, and I
know it's gonna make it through the twenty fifth. I
mean I was watering that thing twice a day, like,
checking on it constantly, making sure. I wasn't sure I
was gonna make it. But you know, we we love
(03:38):
having real trees, and for whatever reason this year, that
was the one my kids picked out and they loved
and it barely held on.
Speaker 4 (03:45):
So we were going to wait another day before we
took it out to the curb.
Speaker 2 (03:49):
Throw a little sugar in it.
Speaker 3 (03:51):
Yeah, we tried that little sugar. There was also some
other mix. I actually stopped by, like our you know,
local uh, you know, nursery, and we're like, hey, you know,
what else can we do besides like sugar?
Speaker 4 (04:01):
We've heard that.
Speaker 3 (04:02):
They're like, oh, there's these little packets you can buy.
It helped a little bit.
Speaker 4 (04:06):
Not much.
Speaker 2 (04:06):
What about a fake tree, Brady.
Speaker 3 (04:09):
Don't even Yeah, that's don't even you. Watch your mouth,
Patti sweet, Yeah, watch your mouth.
Speaker 2 (04:17):
That'll be yeah. By the way, everybody, the.
Speaker 4 (04:18):
Main tree will always be the main tree with you,
and it's going to be real. It's gonna be made
of wood.
Speaker 3 (04:23):
It might even come with who knows, you know, maybe
some extra you know, friends involved.
Speaker 2 (04:28):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (04:28):
I need to don't you even question that.
Speaker 2 (04:30):
I need I need to know that we're tiptoeing towards
a potential fire hazard with my tree, not some plastic
fake tree that you can just take apart and put together.
And just it's it's got to be the real deal.
Plus it's fun to go pick out a different one,
just like it's fun to pick out a different coach.
Apparently in the world of college football because uh, guess what,
(04:52):
and I don't know if you'd heard this, but Michigan
as looking for ahead. Apparently there was some issue with
the guy that was there before, like some stuff that
was going on. I have no idea, you know, big
fan of you know, door Dash apparently, but Utah former
Utah coach Kyle Whittingham, according to Dan Wetzel and Pete Thammil,
has emerged as the focus of Michigan's coaching search. Sources
(05:14):
tell the Guys. Whittingham's candidacy is expected to be shared
with top Michigan officials on Friday, sources said, and a
deal could come together in the near future if they approve.
And Kyle Whittingham was with Utah for what twenty one years,
did a really fine job there. I know that you
have been there cover that team several times throughout the
(05:36):
course of Big Noon kickoff. And so if you're Michigan
and you look at this, like when Kyle Whittingham stepped down,
he kind of joked and said, you know, I'm entering
the portal, meaning I'm not retiring. I'm just it's time
to step away and go somewhere else and to be
able to land this gig. If it comes together, it
feels like, you know, this is a pretty decent higher
(05:58):
all things considered, this stage of the game from Michigan.
Speaker 4 (06:02):
Without a doubt.
Speaker 3 (06:03):
I mean, and this is kind of it didn't venture
necessarily on the Penn State territory where a drug on
that long and then you ended up with a candidate
that I think can be a really good coach for you.
Speaker 4 (06:12):
This happened a little bit sooner.
Speaker 3 (06:14):
I think there were there was an initial thought of
some candidates where it was Kenny Dillingham, whose name was
thrown out there, or some of the others that were rumored.
Speaker 4 (06:22):
I don't know how far.
Speaker 3 (06:23):
Along they ever got in the process with any of those,
probably because of.
Speaker 4 (06:27):
What they were dealing with.
Speaker 3 (06:28):
In regards to Sharon Moore, I mean, in one instance,
you're doing an investigation. You're trying to figure out, you know,
how long this went on, you know, with your head
coach and all the details that came along with it.
And I know they did prior investigations, you know, during
the season, and I told you we got wind of
that back when we were there for Michigan vs.
Speaker 4 (06:46):
Wisconsin. You know, I'd been told that he was being
investigated at that point in time.
Speaker 3 (06:50):
And you're never sure what to make of something like
that because you don't have the facts or details. But
the source was a good source, and you kind of
sit on it and just wonder, Okay, where's this going
to go.
Speaker 4 (07:00):
And at the end of the season.
Speaker 3 (07:02):
I said, we said this and talked about this, if
they beat Ohiose State and they're in the playoff, Like,
is this firing happening.
Speaker 4 (07:10):
Based on what's being alleged?
Speaker 3 (07:12):
You'd hope it still would have happened, But to your point, like,
probably not. And that's the crazy thing about sports and
college football in general. But I think they've landed with
what is potentially the best possible candidate for their scenario.
And that's one in which if you look at the
timing of the college football calendar, we have very quickly
(07:35):
approaching the transfer portal and once and the new rule
is now, once the new permanent head coach is hired.
Speaker 4 (07:43):
There's usually a fifteen day period.
Speaker 3 (07:46):
Where that coach can evaluate the roster, meet with a
number of players, and there's a five day period where
that roster opens up and any kid on the roster
can transfer. And the reason why the timing of all
this is important is because you like for that five
day window to open.
Speaker 4 (08:00):
Up within the transfer portal window.
Speaker 3 (08:04):
If that five day window opens up after it in January,
once that window closes, everyone's taken your players and you
can't replenish what.
Speaker 4 (08:13):
You're missing out on.
Speaker 3 (08:15):
So the timing of this higre is some important I
think where Kyle Whittingham's in his career, being sixty six
years old, coach had been the model of consistency, if
you will, at Utah.
Speaker 4 (08:25):
That's what Michigan's trying to bring.
Speaker 3 (08:27):
They're trying to move on from an area that Yeah,
I won a national championship, but I had a lot
of baggages that came along with it, and they're trying
to get back to that. And I don't know how
long he's going to coach. I mean, anyone who's been
around Kyle Whittingham has seen him. I mean that dude
is a model of health. Like he is, he's a stud.
I mean, he still gets after working out. You can
tell he's in great shape, does not look his age,
doesn't act his age, still very much into it. I mean,
(08:50):
I think he would have stepped down and let Morgan
Scalley take over Utah last year had they had a
better season than being five and seven. But it was
announced I don't know, maybe a few years ago now
that Morgan scout I was the coach in waiting, and
it kind of felt like, all right, like let's move
on with this. As tough as that is, to admit.
For a coach who's won what one hundred and seventy
seven games at Utah, there's still an element of, like,
(09:12):
we we need to move on, let Morgan take over,
and if you want to coach somewhere, so be it.
You've been tremendous for us. But this, to me would
be a huge hire because I think it sets the
foundation for what Michigan football should hope to be. A tough, defensive,
physical team and that's what won the national championship a
(09:33):
couple of years ago. So they're kind of getting back
to that, but just with a different face. Who's going
to be doing it now? If indeed they are able
to come to agree with Kyle Whittingham.
Speaker 2 (09:41):
You obviously know the Michigan Ohio state rivalry, and just
in our time working together, I've just sort of realized
that a move by either school needs to be looked
at in a sense of where does it land with
that rivalry, because that's everything. How does he all of
a sudden fit in and ingrain himself into that rivalry
(10:02):
because he seems like he's also got a little bit
of red ass to him. Oh yeah, and this is
just what we need, Like this is just a sprinkle
of that little hot sauce on what already is the
greatest rivalry in sports.
Speaker 4 (10:14):
I think Cal Whittingham is closer to Jim Trestle than
even though he coached.
Speaker 3 (10:20):
Under Urban Meyer. But I think there's some elements of
him and Urban being similar. But as far as the
timing of all this, it reminds me more kind of
of of Jim Tressell kind of taking over and the
seriousness and the manner of which how he conducted himself
and how he was and so I kind of go
back to that era where you're coming out of John
Cooper Ara Ohio State didn't have much success versus Michigan.
(10:41):
That was like the first thing that Jim Trestle wanted
to get back at.
Speaker 2 (10:45):
Now.
Speaker 3 (10:45):
I know Michigan has had success, you know, in the
years prior to this year, but it also feels like
the program was kind of hanging on since Jim Harbaugh left.
I mean two years ago that was nowhere close to
a team that just won a national championship. And I
understand the roster decimated, but still it wasn't to the
level that you thought they'd be at.
Speaker 4 (11:04):
And even this past.
Speaker 3 (11:05):
Season, I think in many of those games, and we
were there for their game versus Northwestern Rigley.
Speaker 4 (11:09):
They had no business winning that game.
Speaker 3 (11:11):
And there's a number of games that were like that
this season for them, where the record probably looked better than.
Speaker 4 (11:15):
They actually were.
Speaker 3 (11:17):
And as odd as that is to admit and say,
it's just you kind of felt like, hey, maybe Schroilmore's
not the guy. Regardless of all the stuff that happened
off the field, there's no development under Bryce Underwood. There's
no offensive creativity. I mean, Chip Lindsay moved on, but
I didn't even wait to see how this whole thing
would figure itself out, which may have been a godsend
honestly to Michigan. I mean, at no point of this
(11:39):
season that I feel like they ever had a great
offensive plan. So not only does their quarterback Bryce Underwood,
who's a budding star in my opinion, get a new
lease on life and opportunity, hopefully he gets an offense
an offensive system that's built around his skill set to
help him, you know, improve and elevate. But I do
think in regards to the rivalry, like Kyle Whittingham's prepared
(12:00):
for this. Anyone who's ever been out for the Utah
BYU robbery, and we went this past year. I'm not
trying to put it on the scale of Ohio State
Michigan as far as you know those two states and
the national significance of what that game usually has meant.
But to the state of Utah, it is as nasty
as it gets. I mean, it is as big of
a rivalry as you will find, you know, next to you,
(12:22):
i'd say below. When you want to start comparing like
the Oklahoma Oklahoma states or whoever else you want to
throw in the conversation, you know, Utah BYU, notre MSc.
We'll talk about that later on today's show. But when
you start throwing these other the robberies, even the Iron Bowl,
like iron bowls as an unbelievable rivalry too, the egg Bowl,
et cetera. Like, there's as much nastiness to the BYU
(12:46):
Utah robbery than any any of the other ones that
are out there. And anyone who's been in Utah is
probably not in their head and a green right now,
because if they've been a part.
Speaker 4 (12:54):
Of it, you've seen it. It is nuts.
Speaker 3 (12:55):
It is wild, and there's like a deepe I don't
say hatred, but I guess that's lacking from lack of
a better term, I use hatred towards one another.
Speaker 2 (13:04):
The signage in the background is interesting. When you guys
are on set as well too, you can tell, uh
tell who's a Utah fan, who's b yu U with
somebody well.
Speaker 3 (13:11):
And the tough thing for the for the BYU fans,
it must really much of a response. We were right
there in the crowd and some of these guys are
saying some heinous things with these kids, and they're like,
we're going.
Speaker 4 (13:22):
To rise above this. We're not going to respond to
these Utah fans.
Speaker 2 (13:25):
Yeah, you kind of like, you know, what are you
supposed to do, Like there's no you know that you
can't you can't really act out like they can get
to a place that you just can't really get to.
And that's unfortunate, you know, for that rivalry.
Speaker 4 (13:37):
But so I do think Cale Whittingham will be prepared
for it.
Speaker 3 (13:40):
He'll understand the mission, and I think if this hire happens,
you know, he'll he'll be able to build some up
again who can take over and he can pass this
down to I think in a few years and mission
will will look back and be like that.
Speaker 4 (13:54):
He was like the savior to our program at that time.
Speaker 3 (13:58):
I really do predict that happening for Michigan because Kyle
Wohitotingham's just that that darn good of a coach.
Speaker 2 (14:04):
I also think, and we obviously doing the show with
LeVar Arrington and you and I would you know, we
take you know, potentially some liberties with you know, the
Penn State coaching search and trying to hey, you know
what about now they got somebody to what about you know,
with all the other rumors and reports that were out
there of candidates that were But if you look at Michigan,
if this does go through and they land Kyle Whittingham,
(14:25):
and then you look at Penn State and after all
of that, I think it was what close to two
months I think it was fifty eight days before they
named another head coach. For them to be able to
land a Matt Campbell and for Michigan to land a
Kyle Whittingham, that's not a bad place to fall into,
considering all the crap that's been going on surrounding both programs,
(14:46):
like both you could do a lot worse thoan both
those guys.
Speaker 3 (14:51):
It's a home run and I think when you look
at from this standpoint too, it's a huge get for
the Big Ten. And I remember when you like go
back through the years when you know Irvin Meyer was
there and some of the other code when Jim Harbaugh
first got to Michigan, I believe it was opening game,
by the way, ironically enough was versus Utah. But the
point is, like, you've got coaches who I think Matt
(15:14):
Campbell has won the most games of any head coach
in Iowa state history. You know, Kyle Whittingham obviously did
that at Utah. But you're taking two of the best
coaches in college football, but both from the Big Twelve
and that conference is kind of being pillage right now
with with that talent moving up to the Big Ten.
So it's it's tough on the Big Twelve for that reason.
(15:36):
You know, you wonder how Iowa stables will handle that
and we'll be able to you know, survive, like what
that next era looks like. I think forth Morgan Scalley,
the foundation of the program's already built. It's about kind
of maintaining that and then taking it up a notch there. Obviously,
we're a ten win team this season, but I think
they've got higher aspirations of getting into the playoff and
being a part of winning a national championship, and we'll
(15:57):
see if he can do that. But for the Big ten,
it's a huge Geit again, both coaches who understand how
to build programs, understand how to have success, and it
might not happen right away, but I think they will
get there.
Speaker 2 (16:10):
So if that deal does get finalized, again, the reports
are out according to ESPN that Kyle Whittingham is the
focus of Michigan's head coaching search. If that gets the
deal gets done. If we get in the finalizing of
the deal before the end of the show, we'll update
you on that. Throughout. We're also going to have a
conversation with the Great Petros Papadacus. He's going to be
joining you an hour two of the program. We're going
(16:32):
to do something later on this hour called in case
you missed it. We've also got some picks for Week six,

Speaker 2 (19:36):
It's a Dan Patrick show here on Fox Sports Radio.
Brady Quinn, Jonas Knox in for Dan and the guys.
We're going to be doing something about twenty minutes from now.
It's called in case you missed it and in case
you missed this. Uh, there's a coach in the world
of sports. I mean, I don't know if he's threatening
to leave but not thrilled with his current product. We
will get into that for you right here on Fox
(19:57):
Sports Radio. But right now it is time and for
the tire rack play of the day. All right, Brosmer takes.
Speaker 1 (20:05):
It's a trick play and here comes Jordan Edison Fix
team into the party.
Speaker 5 (20:10):
To the party, down to the five close to the
en Zone.
Speaker 2 (20:20):
There it is Vikings Radio Network on the call. That's
your tire rack play the day. For over forty years,
ty Rack's been helping customers find the right tires for how,
what and where they drive. Shipped fast and freeback by
free Road has a protection with convenient installation options like
mobile tire installation ti rack dot com. The way tire
buying should be pritty. Have you heard that adage, if
you want to make God laugh, tell them your plan.
Speaker 4 (20:42):
You hear that? Yeah? Yeah, yeah, I think told me
that yesterday. Yeah.
Speaker 2 (20:46):
God was laughing his ass off yesterday watching those games,
because man, that's some bad football teams we got on
display on Christmas, and I know that they probably thought, hey,
man like Chiefs Broncos with Patrick Mahomes and bow Nicks
and sort of reigniting that rivalry, that'll be a good idea.
The Lions and the Vikings would be a good idea.
(21:07):
I mean, Cowboys commanders with Jaden Daniels. That was that
was rough. Man like us some really really bad teams
in the NFL. I don't know if it's more so
than ever, but that was that was a rough watch yesterday.
Speaker 3 (21:25):
I'm not going to go that far. But that's the
risk you run if you're in Netflix and you're paying
a bunch of money for these games and you end up. Look,
there are three divisional games. I think when we make
the schedule before the season, you're thinking, like, these could
all be very influential, even if a team like Washington's out,
had Dallas had still been in the hunt, or for
(21:46):
at least for the Vikings Lions. I mean, obviously this
pretty much knocked out the Lions from being in playoff contention.
So there's those elements of it that I do think
it made it somewhat enticing or at least interesting and
maybe even worth the price of what Netflix is paying
for these games and the production that goes along with it.
I kind of just came to the conclusion, not even
just watching the games, but you know, thinking about what
(22:08):
Christmas used to be like, and I understand that, you know,
the NBA now has kind of made this their holiday. Now,
the NFL's kind of you know, trump them, and I'm
sure the ratings will show as much.
Speaker 4 (22:19):
But can we just take a day off.
Speaker 3 (22:22):
I know Mark Cuban said this years ago about the
pigs can get too fat in the NFL.
Speaker 4 (22:27):
Eventually there'll be a bubble, it will burst. I just
I don't know, man, Like, can't we.
Speaker 3 (22:32):
Just have Can we just have Christmas and not have
to if you force these games to be played on
Christmas Day? I mean, I'm not saying that it factored
into like how I felt about our Christmas or a
day at all, but I'm sure there's some Washington Commanders fans,
or Detroit Lions fans or you know, whoever you want
to point to that's probably sitting there thinking themselves like, yeah,
(22:55):
what have What if we could have taken that l
maybe on the twenty sixth, the twenty seven to twenty eight,
you know, it would have been nice to not have
to throw that into my my Christmas, you know as well?
Speaker 4 (23:04):
Well, I feel Timmy out there.
Speaker 2 (23:07):
Well, a'man around. Saint Brown went on a rant on
his podcast talking about why do we have to play
on Thanksgiving and Christmas? He's like, I don't even I
don't even have kids, and I'm pissed off about it
because I can't even imagine my kids, Like it's just yeah,
it's I mean, I'm kind of with you, man, like
I know that, you know, I mean and maybe people
are just maybe people like it because they can avoid
(23:29):
their family, But it just it does feel like I'm
just saying like there's there's also that element to it. Look,
I mean, you know, it's like faking a phone call.
Somebody comes up to you and you just grab what'sever
on the table and say, yeah, I'm still here. It's
just I get it. You just you want to avoid
the conversations, you want to avoid the social life with
your family. I get all that, but that was just
(23:49):
I mean, and do we need three Like do we
have to have three games like one in the morning.
It's just like it feels like it's just it's getting
more and more and more. And once the NFL realized
in Covid, I'll wait a second, we could just throw
this on anywhere and people watch. Then it was off
and running from there.
Speaker 3 (24:07):
Well, I don't want to look at the same way
because COVID, I think they'd learned that even during the week,
you can put on a primetime game almost any day
of the week and people would watch.
Speaker 4 (24:15):
But this is different. It's a holiday. I mean, I
just it hits a little bit different.
Speaker 3 (24:19):
But I don't want to point out one thing you
just said, you just tried to call the Cowboys commander's
game in the morning. No one cares about Pacific time. Okay,
let's just get that straight. Don't don't even start. I
just heard you say it.
Speaker 4 (24:32):
You go, so you know you Dallas washed in the morning. Yeah,
don't start that.
Speaker 2 (24:36):
Hey, that little sliver you know, when you're looking at
the map on the on the left side, that little
sliver there, that's Pacific time we count out here, all right,
And and you know our friends in Hawaii were a
couple hours behind. That's really early for them, so they
had to wake up even earlier to that garbage.
Speaker 3 (24:52):
That was the on that note, because I know you're
going to gloat about Hawaii winning their bowl game beach right, Breda, No, okay, Brad,
I feel like cal let their foot off the gas.
It felt like after the first half they're like, all right,
we proved our point.
Speaker 4 (25:04):
We're gonna go ahead and just like let this thing,
you know, figure itself out.
Speaker 2 (25:08):
I mean, you know, if we really want to peel
behind the curtain ear and just all right, so let's
go and peel this back. Mind in my own business,
Christmas Eve, getting ready for the holiday. One of Brady's
best friends, who we will not give his real name
on the air, but his moniker is the meat Wagon
just randomly sends a text Merry Christmas, Hawaii stinks okay,
(25:34):
and then clearly, I mean clearly obviously had money on
the game, like I would venture to guess, he probably
had money on the game. So I don't even know
if he turned out to be happy at the result
or if he was bragging because he had Cal in
that game. But unfortunately, if he had Cal, they came
out on the short end because Timmy Chang and those
(25:55):
nine win Hawaii Rainbow Warriors got it done at the
Hawaii Ball. You know, So I feel like that's a
that's that's a good start to Bowl season.
Speaker 4 (26:04):
Was that neutral side game that Hawaii.
Speaker 2 (26:05):
Bull Yeah, it's yeah, just that's that's just the way
it works, Like when the Rams were playing in the
Super Bowl so far, you know, it's just a home
game the Bucks and at Raymond James, you know, during
the COVID Super Bowl against the Chiefs. But I mean, look,
I'll give I'll say this about Amazon Prime. Uh, they
they were really really pushing the Travis Kelcey final game
(26:29):
at Arrowhead as a chief last night. They were I mean,
they were finding anything they could to make this entertaining
and uh and we're really trying to send him off,
letting everybody know, like, hey, he hasn't made it official yet,
but it's like, dude, he's gone. Like everything, the way
it was presented, the way he was talking, sort of
his you know all, like the way he was saying,
(26:51):
by that's a wrap. Travis Kelsey's gone. He's played his
final game at Arrowhead Stadium. He's going to go off
and make a gazillion dollars and a gazillion more dollars
and he's going to go into the Hall of Fame
in five years. Like that's a rap. I don't think
there's any shot he comes back.
Speaker 3 (27:08):
I don't think so either. I mean, he's a first
ballot Hall of Famer. I do wonder if he didn't
have the podcast with his brother, what do he hanging up?
I mean, I think it's hard for a lot of
players to call it quits. Maybe this season, and I
would think this season more than any, would be hard
to call it quits because you didn't get close to
achieving which you've been so accustomed to. I mean, he's
(27:31):
won three Super Bowls. You know, he's been such a
you know, incredible piece of this team and the run
that the Chiefs have been on. I mean some would
say next to Ma Holmes, like the other foundational piece
if you're just talking about players, and I just I
always wonder for a guy like him, who's an ultimate competitor.
He's fought through, playing through injuries, different types of things,
(27:55):
if he didn't have something they're waiting for him that's
not only lucrative, but I think it's fun and something
to do with his brother. Would would he have called
it quits this season or would he try to run
it back again? And would he exhaust all efforts? I mean,
only he truly knows. I guess that answer. But not
as many players can transition the way he has, you know,
into something that's going to easily be able to make them,
(28:18):
you know, money and allow him to still be very
much in the limelight and as maybe even as successful
he's been as.
Speaker 4 (28:24):
A football player.
Speaker 2 (28:26):
Kirk Curbstreet was making the point on the broadcast, saying,
you know, I kind of lean towards him coming back
because you know, I can't imagine he wants to go
out that way with Patrick Mahomes on the sideline, especially
if Patrick's going to work his way to come back,
and it's like, all right, but that's what he did
this past year, Like they didn't want to go out
that way, and how it happened in the super Bowl,
(28:46):
So what is he going to do? Just like keep
going until the year ends perfectly and this is it
and he's had had a tremendous career and yeah, he's
got all these other opportunities off the field. I mean,
you've even said it yourself. You don't even know if
you would have gotten into football, if you would have
met me sooner so we could do this radio show together.
Like didn't you say that once? Almost possibly never said that,
(29:08):
not once in my life. In fact, that was never
a part of the conversation. So I mean, I will
say this, I will admit this.
Speaker 3 (29:16):
You know, I had a back surgery in my seventh
year that had some complications from you know, the injury
and everything else, and.
Speaker 4 (29:23):
I was I was rehabbing.
Speaker 3 (29:24):
I kind of came to the conclusion that I'm probably
never gonna feel and be you know what I once
was at one point in my life, And it got
to the point where I had this opportunity presented by
Fox to go call games and to do studio work,
and eventually this knucklehead named Jonas Knox came along too,
and I really had to reevaluate after that first season.
Speaker 4 (29:46):
Where I was, I was out and.
Speaker 3 (29:49):
I was calling NFL games, and I was I was
looking at what I was being presented as a career,
and I thought this was never by design, you know.
Speaker 4 (29:56):
I think that's transparently that the toughest thing from me.
Speaker 3 (30:00):
Most athletes, I think, for all of us out there,
by the way, it's like most people prepare for best
and worst, Like who prepares for like the middle scenario
in a seriousness, Like you're like, oh, a best case
cinerario worst case scenario. Like That's how I looked at it.
Like I went to Notre Dame thinking I'm gonna do Paul.
I'm gonna study Poli sci and finance. And if I
don't it doesn't work out for football, I will eventually
(30:21):
get into, you know, something in the you know, private sector.
Speaker 4 (30:24):
Maybe I'll go back to you know, law schoolerget my
JD NBA and be something else in the business world.
Speaker 3 (30:29):
And if it does work out, like I'm gonna play
for a Butajullian years be a Hall of Famer.
Speaker 4 (30:32):
I have to worry about, like, no one plans for.
Speaker 2 (30:34):
The in between, And here you are, day after Christmas
slapping it up with me.
Speaker 3 (30:38):
Yeah exactly, balls are equal. Now it feels like it's
an incredible disappointment.
Speaker 2 (30:45):
Let me tell you it is all is no doubt,
all that time you spent studying, all the hours the second.
Speaker 4 (30:51):
Training work for football. Now I end up here the
same spot with.
Speaker 2 (30:54):
Jonas Knots, only to end up doing crank jokes ten
years in a row. Yeah, that's that's all we got.
Go hard guys.
Speaker 3 (31:01):
The guy who was working for Chuck E Cheeses I
had have the same exact spot.
Speaker 2 (31:06):
Yeah, it's in the balls at least a dozen times
my six year old. It's just yeah, it's an unfortunate Uh,
it's really unfortunate that they.
Speaker 3 (31:16):
The point is, though, is that I probably could have
kept trying to exhaust that opportunity. And I look at
like today's conup Philip Rivers to come up all these
other guys, We're like, well, I mean at this point,
like you can go and be serviceable.
Speaker 4 (31:30):
I mean, especially the way the league's changed the course
of the last ten years.
Speaker 3 (31:33):
I mean, the way you're not even allowed to hit
the guys anymore, and the inability for you know, quarterbacks
even read who are redefenses who are coming in the NFL.
It's like, well, you know, if it was ten years later,
I probably would have ended up here, probably would have
kept trying to exhaust those efforts of playing. But the
truth is there was something there for me, and it
made that transition a little bit easier, so much so
(31:54):
that when I kind of dove head in first, I
really never sat back and thought about how much I
missed playing until you you would have those opportunities where
you're like down on the field talking to players, talking
to coaches and guys that are still doing it, and
even today reaching out talking to guys who are still
doing it, like I at the Big Ten Championship game.
You know, Saul, I granted this is on the college level,
(32:15):
but still, you know, saw one of my buddies that
I played college with and just the excitement he had
after winning the Big Ten Championship knocking off Ohio State.
Speaker 4 (32:22):
You're like, man, like, you know.
Speaker 3 (32:24):
Even if I got into coaching like that would have
been that that kind of window of time to make
that decision and look how much fun they're having. So
I think that's what's there though for Travis Kelcey, and
that's what makes this year feel a lot different.
Speaker 4 (32:35):
I know we kind of had it last.
Speaker 3 (32:37):
Year too as they're building up, but with the way
everything's gone this year for Kansas City and really for
him too, and physically being another year older, it just feels.
Speaker 4 (32:45):
Like it's time.
Speaker 2 (32:46):
Yeah, And I do wonder more so about Andy Reid,
like what sort of his thought process is, because he's
also me and him and Travis Kelsey kind of hinted
around it at potentially walking away. I don't think Andy
Reid ultimately does, but I mean that's another guy that
you look around and feels like he's on, you know,
borrowed time.
Speaker 3 (33:05):
It's kind of interesting though, you're saying this about Andy Reid,
who's what's sixty seven years old? I think go turn
sixty eight in March of twenty twenty six. I mean
Kyle Woody game sixty six. Yeah, and he's he's stepping
down with than taking potentially another job at the college level.
Speaker 2 (33:22):
Maybe it's a jacked defect. He's just jacked, So I
just assume, oh, he's got like another twenty years to go, Like, yeah,
maybe maybe that's what it is.
Speaker 3 (33:29):
He's just I think if you're Andy reid Man, you
run this thing with Patrick Mahomes to the wheels fall off.
And then the other thing about Kelsey that makes the
decision maybe a little bit easier all the way around
is he's unrestricted free agent. Yeah, they would they would
have to, you know, figure out some way of fitting
them in under the cab what that number looks like?
You know, are they going to offer him the type
of like money that he wants to come back for
(33:49):
at this point time in his career. I mean, if
you are Kansas City, you do have to start thinking
about life after him, which they've already thought about, but
they have to start preparing for how they're going to
rebuild this roster and the financial components a piece of
it for both sides, Travis Kelcey and.
Speaker 4 (34:04):
For the team.
Speaker 2 (34:05):
Yeah, well listen, whatever he decides been a hell of
a run. And this run for us continues here on
Fox Sports Radio. It is Brady Quinn Jonas Knox in
for Dan Patrick and the guys here on FSR and
up next, there's a coach in the world of sports
not happy about things, and I don't know if he's
trying to find a way out but not thrilled and
(34:26):
aired his own team out yesterday regarding it. We'll get
into that for you right here on FSR.
Speaker 1 (34:31):
Fox Sports Radio has the best sports talk lineup in
the nation. Catch all of our shows at Foxsports Radio
dot com and within the iHeartRadio app. Search FSR to
listen live.
Speaker 2 (34:45):
It's a Dan Patrick show here on Fox Sports Radio.
He's Brady Quinn, I'm Jonas Knox in for Dan and
the guys. Coming up top of next hour about fifteen
minutes from now. Somebody's ruined one of the great traditions
in all of sports, absolutely disgusting. Get into that for
you right here on f s R. But right now
it's time for something we do on our show, Two
(35:05):
Pros and a Cup of Joe with myself, Brady Quinn
and LeVar Arrington. It's another edition of In Case You
missed It, and it starts now.
Speaker 1 (35:14):
Sometimes sometimes you can't get to everything in the world
of sports or entertainment. Good thing the guys are here
to bring you in case you missed it.
Speaker 2 (35:25):
And for that we turned it over to our executive producer,
the one and only Patrick Sweek Patty speaks, what.
Speaker 4 (35:34):
Up, Brady? What up? What's up? Guys?
Speaker 2 (35:41):
What if that's it's supposed to be an air.
Speaker 4 (35:46):
Horns?
Speaker 6 (35:48):
That's my version of an air Horn's not great, But
you know.
Speaker 4 (35:50):
What, thank you. Let's go well.
Speaker 6 (35:57):
In case you missed it, I missed you, guys. It
was a lovely chriss. But you know what, we're back
in business. Everybody, we're here.
Speaker 2 (36:03):
Hey, By the way, can I just say this, Yes,
Patrick's mom, how like how long does she like h
take to like she just bakes all day, like during
the holidays.
Speaker 6 (36:14):
In particular, it was three days Friday, she ended Sunday afternoon.
Speaker 2 (36:19):
Unbelievable, Like, oh no, she was just home homebrewed. Man,
you got to start selling, like to like start selling
tins of goodies. I'm telling like, she put together stuff.
And my wife was like, who made these? And I
was about to lie and say I did, but she
would have seen right through because I can't. And I
(36:40):
just said, yeah, Patrick, our producer, he like his mom bakes,
And she said this is unbelievable. I was like, yeah,
everything's good creative, like you're missing an opportunity there to
make a little cash point.
Speaker 6 (36:52):
That out shout out to my mom's I know you
listening a round now, Just mamma, you good?
Speaker 4 (36:57):
You good MoMA?
Speaker 1 (36:57):
What mama?
Speaker 4 (36:58):
Sweet mama.
Speaker 6 (37:00):
Well, in case you missed it, guys, speaking of Ellen again,
a little fire here. JJ Reddick, a coach of the
Lakers after their recent loss yesterday, was oh so not
very happy at his team. In fact, I actually have
a sound to play coming up here. Here's what a coach,
Reddick had to say.
Speaker 7 (37:19):
Been a good basketball team, and we haven't. We're a
terrible basketball team. And tonight we were a terrible basketball team.
And that started legitimately right away. We don't care enough
to do the things that are necessary. We don't care
enough to be a professional. It's you know, we had it.
It can change like that. We don't have it right now.
What I said the other night, it's a matter of
making the choice, and too often we have guys that
(37:42):
don't want to make that choice. And it's pretty consistent
who those guys are. And so Saturday practice I told
the guys it's going to be uncomfortable. The meeting is
going to be uncomfortable. I'm not doing another fifty three
games like.
Speaker 4 (37:55):
This scathing from coach rede here.
Speaker 2 (38:00):
Good for him? Also, why'd you take the gig?
Speaker 1 (38:03):
Dudes?
Speaker 2 (38:04):
Like he could? Like he was great in immedia, He
was a great as a broadcaster, he had his podcast,
he had all those other opportunities, and he chose to
be miserable as the coach of the Lakers.
Speaker 3 (38:15):
It's one of those jobs though, because that if you
get offered it, can you turn it down?
Speaker 2 (38:21):
If you've got options? Yeah, Like, I I don't know.
I just think he if he was awful, like if
it just wasn't working and you know, as a broadcaster
he was flaming out, and then there is an opportunity
to go, you know, be a head coach somewhere. Oh yeah,
that would make sense. But he was great at that
and he just seems like he's miserable a lot of
(38:42):
the times as a coach of the leaguers. I mean,
but at least Luca got skinny this year, so there
is that.
Speaker 3 (38:49):
Well, I guess I'll ask this, did he confuse the
relationship that he had with Lebron and maybe even like
when he was stepping into this role, who would ultimately
be a control of the roster and the decisions, because
I don't know, it feels like ever since that he's
stepped into this role, the relationship with with Lebron has
(39:10):
been somewhat for actured, at least not what it used
to be. And then it feels like he's just a
figurehead more than anything else.
Speaker 2 (39:18):
Yeah, I think he wants you know, he's looking for
better defensive effort and it's like, like, but that's not
Luca's game, Like it never has been, Like, that's not
Lebron's game anymore. Like if you watch Lebron, like he's
out there just kinda kind of good and look, he's
been in the league one hundred and five years, Like
I get it. But it's like he's looking for better
defensive efforts and that's not their game. And so I
(39:40):
don't know how why anybody should be surprised by this,
but you know, it's the Lakers, and I feel like
we hit our quota in covering the Lakers here, you know,
to finish up the calendar year. So that's that's always important.
What else we got, Patty?
Speaker 6 (39:53):
All Right, So Christmas gift for the Steelers on the
eve of Christmas.
Speaker 4 (39:58):
What was that you guys?
Speaker 6 (39:59):
Ask?
Speaker 4 (40:00):
Well, TJ.
Speaker 6 (40:01):
Watt is back, Hey, he was practicing. Hey after the injury,
let's go it at, can we get.
Speaker 4 (40:08):
Some details in the lung injury? How does that happen?
Speaker 1 (40:10):
You know?
Speaker 2 (40:10):
Nothing? Like, hey, just very your run of the mill
holiday SHIV by a member of the training staff right
before you get ready for Christmas. You know, just nothing,
I'm telling you, man, Nothing about that entire story has
made sense from the get go, even the explanation afterwards,
Like you're trying to explain dry needling and how nearly
(40:30):
impossible that is, and you've got like some doctors that
are saying, oh no, no, it's possible, could happen, and
doctor David Chow's on social media being like, you'd have
to work really hard to collapse somebody's lung using those
those little needles, like they're just really fine, like even
like thinner than sewing needles, and somehow has lung got collapsed.
(40:52):
Mike Tomlin doesn't have any answers, doesn't know what it's like.
It feels like we have not heard the end of this,
and there's gonna be some sort of a conversation. I
don't know if there's a legal impact to it all.
But none of it has made sense, this whole thing.
Speaker 4 (41:06):
I mean, there'll definitely be a workman's calm claim at
the minimum.
Speaker 3 (41:09):
But I mean I've had dry needling done before, and
I've had like issues with ribs, cartilage and the rib
and all that, and I've had injections right like usually
they did numb it up before games to get me
a shot a novacane, so.
Speaker 4 (41:21):
Locally you couldn't feel anything. And it's odd to me that.
Speaker 3 (41:25):
Again, I understand mistakes happen, but through dry needling, I
just it doesn't.
Speaker 4 (41:31):
I don't even know them. Again, I'm not any expert
in this.
Speaker 3 (41:33):
I've never heard of a player getting dry needling in
that area.
Speaker 2 (41:39):
Yeah, Like what is the like, what's the Is it
just to relieve pressure? Like the dry needling is to
do what?
Speaker 3 (41:47):
Oh god, I don't know if we have enough time
to go through that. But I mean there's some people
who talk about like the meridian system, like your body's
like electrical kind of charge and energy. There's people who
talk from it from like an acupuncture standpoint like that way.
There's other people who feel like it helps, you know,
bring like recovery cells and from like a cellular standpoint.
Speaker 4 (42:08):
Locally to that area. I don't think that's that's a
warm hoole you want to jump down.
Speaker 2 (42:12):
But but collapsing of the lung is not part of
the is not part of the conversation when it comes
to dry needly like they just it just feels it
feels odd. What else we got, Patty.
Speaker 6 (42:24):
Oh with that said, uh, we're still gonna stay with
the NFL. So Dak Prescott and the Cowboys played yesterday
and Christmas. Dak Prescott says he's still gonna play for
the final game. And he actually said why he's gonna
play with no playoffs pride?
Speaker 4 (42:40):
He says he's never been.
Speaker 6 (42:41):
He's never been you know, missing the playoffs or you know,
under five hundred and all that stuff.
Speaker 2 (42:46):
He says, this is the first for him.
Speaker 4 (42:47):
He's just gonna play for pride.
Speaker 2 (42:49):
I I love how like this is being.
Speaker 4 (42:54):
We act like he's not being paid.
Speaker 3 (42:58):
There's also that you can't just like sit out where
you're being paid fifty million a year.
Speaker 2 (43:03):
Hey what a guy? Yeah, I got understand, Like, but
what is he supposed to not play?
Speaker 6 (43:09):
Like?
Speaker 2 (43:10):
No, listen, you know what, let them have it, you know,
we're out of it, Like there's nothing, Like, what does
he what does he get? Are they trying to keep
him healthy for a game next week? Like no, of
course he's gonna play. I don't understand why this is
even a topic of conversation, but I think the NBA
has kind of soiled it for everybody to where now
when players do participate in games, you're like, man, what
(43:31):
a teammate? What a player?
