Speaker 1 (00:01):
You're listening to Fox Sports Radio Radio.

Speaker 2 (00:04):
I don't even think I said we were in for
Dan Patrick because I was so wrapped up in our
Monday night football Hank Williams junior song. But it is
a new year, it is twenty twenty six, and Joey
Elbos is with me. Every time Oregon has a big game,
they don't wear green and yellow. It's not good. It
is not good. Come on, Ducks. By the way, their
end zone in the Orange Bowl today, hmmm beautiful. Combined

(00:26):
with the Texas Tech black end zones of the Texas Tech,
it's gonna look magnificent. I know everybody loves the Rose
Bowl field, they don't fill in the entire end zone.
It really ticks me off. You got two red teams
today playing Jonas. I'm telling you, the Orange Bowl field
is going to be the primo field of this college
football quarterfoll Now.

Speaker 3 (00:45):
For those who don't know, when it comes to end
zone designs and uniform combinations, there is the foremost authority
on all that, and he is Dan Byer.

Speaker 1 (00:57):
I just I want I want you to to go back.

Speaker 2 (01:01):
Go back to Super Bowl forty one, go back to
Super Bowl twenty go back to any great memory you
may have as a child, maybe rooting on the Chicago Bears,
and what it was like to see Bears in that
Super Bowl end zone, when you saw forty nine Ers,
you saw Dolphins, you saw Redskins back in the day, man,

(01:25):
and all of a sudden, it's your team. Like it's like,
that's like, oh my goodness, it's a feeling Lions.

Speaker 1 (01:32):
Yeah, oh never.

Speaker 3 (01:35):
Mind, alright, wait a minute, yeah, sorry about that.

Speaker 2 (01:38):
Just think about that. I mean, Mark, you know what
I'm talking about. Your shot south side until you die.
Let me see that Bears end zone super Bowl twenty
What my goodness.

Speaker 4 (01:48):
It's the best thing. That's a great memory of the
whole Super Bowl thing. Because when they won fifty one
to ten, I jumped up. I grabbed my dad and
said we what yeah, we we're talking about end zones.
I don't care about that.

Speaker 3 (02:02):
Six to ten, Mark, come on, man, fifty five to
ten was the Niners over the Broncos's gonna can get around.

Speaker 1 (02:09):
The scores go up over time.

Speaker 5 (02:12):
It would have been if Walter Payton would have gotten
the ball.

Speaker 2 (02:15):
Super Bowl one, the Packers beat the Chiefs ninety eight
seventy four. Yeah, so it just the sports keep growing
up over time. According to Mark Ramsey.

Speaker 5 (02:24):
Yeah, I'm with you though, man. And here's the thing
with the Oregon jerseys.

Speaker 3 (02:30):
Like I get that they can do it, it doesn't
mean it's a good idea, you know what I mean. Like,
like there's probably a lot of like you know, hard
rock singers out there that could probably do gospel. Probably
not a good idea, you know what I mean. Like
you should probably just like steer clear of that. There's
a lot of people who think they can act, and
then you see him act, you go, don't quit your
day job, Oregon. Just because you can come up with

(02:51):
all these different combinations doesn't mean they're all good ideas.
I like the uh that duck logo, just the duck,
the old like the old school duck.

Speaker 1 (03:01):
And I'll like handkerchief.

Speaker 5 (03:02):
Yeah yeah, like I like that.

Speaker 3 (03:04):
And I like the simple green and yellow vintage look
almost like the Oakland A's kind of looks like a.

Speaker 5 (03:12):
Box of mic and ikes. Like I'm a big fan
of that.

Speaker 3 (03:15):
All the other like gray and black and all the
other combinations they come out with.

Speaker 1 (03:20):
Not a fan.

Speaker 2 (03:20):
I know you can't see it if you're driving in
your car. Listening to us, but Dan Lannings on ESPN
throwing footballs through that Oregon endzone and it just pops.
It just works, and you're gonna have a kickoff today.
That's noon Eastern time in Miami, but it's gonna be
it's bright. Look at that, Look at that it's it's
just it's such a good look. And it's like, it's

(03:41):
like the person that can I don't know, maybe the
way I can't wear fitted baseball caps anymore, it's probably
because I'm old, but.

Speaker 1 (03:48):
Also just like way too high.

Speaker 2 (03:50):
I have to bend the I'm still with the with
the dad hat, and it's like the person that can
wear the high hat, like, wear it. It looks great.
You don't need to do all these other things that
I feel like. Oregon makes green and yellow look good,
so why not wear it on.

Speaker 1 (04:06):
This New Year's Day.

Speaker 5 (04:06):
It is nice to see the game day crew at
the Rose Bowl right now.

Speaker 3 (04:10):
And you know, for those that are that are wondering
what's going on at the Rose Bowl, Oh no, think
just a torrential downpour, that's all. So Kirk curb Street
went blue towel to cover his head and now he's
got a hat on.

Speaker 5 (04:23):
So whatever, whatever.

Speaker 3 (04:24):
They thought was a good idea for the stage and
the setup as they preview the Rose Bull, which comes
up at four Eastern time, not a great idea whatsoever.

Speaker 2 (04:33):
His dog's in a raft at the third time. Yeah,
that's a lot. It was just dogs hanging out.

Speaker 3 (04:40):
Come on, Dan, like it's you know, that's a that's
a tough one, man. I'm sure al Michaels was thrilled
to find out that he's going to be sharing a
booth with Kirk Curve Street and his dog. And you know,
and al Michaels likes to eat steak at halftime, so
you know that he's malnourished because he's got to eat
half of it to that dog.

Speaker 2 (04:56):
Every single week, week two. It's flipped over trying to
eat my steak.

Speaker 5 (05:05):
Like what is this?

Speaker 3 (05:07):
I mean, like, you know, like take notes from real
professionals here. Nobody's ever had their dog in this studio here, Okay.

Speaker 5 (05:16):
All right, nobody's ever done that.

Speaker 3 (05:18):
And I know you're thinking they've never gotten a haircut either,
so screw you or a massage.

Speaker 1 (05:24):
Never.

Speaker 2 (05:24):
Never, It's never happened eating a steak during an NFL game,
Like it would take me it would take me like
three minutes to just like to chew right. Like, Like, honestly,
if if if Jonas had his sandwich New Year's sandwich,
you know, platter later I can't to show you later
you could you could do this and have a sandwich,

(05:47):
eat half of it and be fine during commercial break.

Speaker 1 (05:50):
Their commercial breaks are like three minutes and.

Speaker 2 (05:52):
He's eating oh, just the toughest meat that there is
to chew and digest. Right, but why not, I'm al Michaels.
It's a second quarter past the A one.

Speaker 5 (06:03):
Yeah, it's just fine dining, gutting it open.

Speaker 3 (06:06):
It's way you know what though, I'll say this about
al Michaels hasn't really lost his fastball, Like I don't
notice a lot of slipping when it comes to al
Michael's ec from other broadcasters. I know, maybe some people
are like, wow, you know, he's just you know, he
doesn't have.

Speaker 5 (06:19):
The same energy. He's almost eighty.

Speaker 3 (06:23):
Like, I mean, yeah, of course he's not gonna have
the same energy, but he does. Like, I don't think
he's lost, and I still love al Michaels.

Speaker 2 (06:30):
He gets he gets some heat because he's not as excited.
He's just Jamie Moyer's right, there's just a lot of
off speed stuff.

Speaker 3 (06:39):
And guess what, Jami Royer one, what like over two
hundred games? Like three hundred baby like, come on, man like,
He's fine.

Speaker 2 (06:45):
That's the amount the White Sox have won in the
last fifteen years, right around two hundred games something like that.

Speaker 1 (06:52):
That includes the World Series.

Speaker 2 (06:54):
He do that, thanks for colling. No Mark takes no prisoners.
So I'm I'm just going along with that. Yeah, twenty
twenty six.

Speaker 5 (07:00):
Now that's that is that is fair.

Speaker 2 (07:02):
I'm also in a crappy mood because Ohio State loss
last night to Miami, which again I know ninety percent
of the country is celebrating.

Speaker 5 (07:09):
Again, can I give you some good news first?

Speaker 3 (07:11):
Yeah, Reported by Bruce Feldman source, former LSU wide receiver
coach Cortes Hankton is expected to become the new wide
receivers coach at Ohio.

Speaker 5 (07:22):
State, a right four year old.

Speaker 3 (07:24):
Had previously coach receivers at Georgia and Vandy.

Speaker 5 (07:28):
So there you go, Dan Well, Ryan Hartline.

Speaker 2 (07:30):
Who well, how about Chris tweeting in we all hate
Ohio State because of their fan base, the most obnoxious
cry baby fan base. Immediately after the loss, throwing up
videos complaining about the reps when they literally got there,
banded to them all night.

Speaker 3 (07:49):
I mean, by the way, my Twitter account is the
Jonas Knocks, So for anybody.

Speaker 1 (07:54):
I've seen that, I've seen that.

Speaker 5 (07:55):
Yeah, I'm just saying, you know, the Ohio State I can't.

Speaker 3 (07:58):
I can't criticize because I have you know, I didn't
have a whole lot of options when I created mind,
so yeah, yeah, but people were thrilled, they were happy.
Miami's America's team.

Speaker 1 (08:08):
All of it.

Speaker 2 (08:08):
Well, he capitalized THEE so that like he purposely you
did that, and it is true. It isn't so much.
I don't think people hate Julian saying. I don't think
that's the case. I don't know how you could dislike Jeremiah.

Speaker 1 (08:21):
I don't think.

Speaker 2 (08:22):
I don't know how you could dislike Jeremiah Smith because
he's so freaking good. It is everything that comes with it,
and that happens a lot in college sports. But last night,
as we said, I for some reason, the U was
America's team when they beat Ohio State. But it also
formed these different conversations of the college football Playoff because
now something you put it out earlier is the quarterfinals,

(08:49):
teams are zero to five when they've had the buye.
I think last night was more of a coincidence last year.
I thought it was more about the matchups. But if
it happens to I don't think it's either of them.
Like so if Ole Miss wins, if Oregon wins, if
Alabama wins, if those three things happen, I don't think

(09:11):
that that's just then a coincidence because those teams specific
in the Old Miss situation, I think Indiana's better than Alabama.
Wouldn't be surprised if Alabama won, But to have all
of this happen in the eight games, then there would
be something. And then now as a format, as a committee,
you really have to look at expanding the field so

(09:34):
you don't have buys because or changing the schedule because
they don't seem to be beneficial to the teams that
are supposed to be getting an advantage.

Speaker 3 (09:43):
Yeah, and I think Dan Lanning made the point last
week where he said, look, I think Texas Tech should
be at home. Like if you expand the playoffs, you know,
if you're gonna give the bye week, if you're gonna
give a team a bye week, give them a real advantage.
Let him play at home, you know, much like we
got to see the first run. Is one of the
things I do love about the college football Playoff because
you know, when we were doing shows together years ago,

(10:05):
I was always of the stance of, now we don't
need more than four teams. I'll split the difference. We'll
have about six teams, and the first two get a buy.
Something along those lines. But now that we've seen the
college football Playoff, my favorite part of it is the
home atmosphere. I think it's awesome. I think everything about
it is awesome. The fan base. In talking to LeVar
who was in State College for the SMU game, Brady

(10:27):
who was there for Notre Dame Indiana, it's fantastic. And
so I do understand the idea of you expand it,
you give teams the home game. I also think, dude,
we're like a little over a year in the sample
size is too small to be like, yep, that's what
it is. Teams on a buy, they struggle. It's a disadvantage.

(10:49):
Like in Major League Baseball with the playoffs, like there
was this thought that well, you know, hey, if you've
got the buy when.

Speaker 5 (10:56):
They expanded the wild card.

Speaker 3 (10:58):
That's a disadvantage because the Dodgers to the Padres, It's like, okay, man,
like there's one play here or there, and it completely
changes the conversation. I think we need to wait a
couple of years before we get a true understanding. And
I'm with you, like, I don't know that anything would
be shocking today other than maybe ole Miss winning just
based on the storyline with Lane Kevin leeing.

Speaker 2 (11:18):
Sure and in knowing you for years, Joel Klatt made
waves recently, but I felt you said something similar when
talking about the NCAA Tournament, the men's basketball tournament of
just basically how it's not not a fair way to
really determine who the who the best team is.

Speaker 1 (11:39):
We love it because of the brackets.

Speaker 2 (11:41):
Yeah, what I also think we love about college football
is we actually love the matchups. And this has meant
no disrespect to Miami, but a Miami Ole Miss game
is not great for college football as a whole. In
a semifinal as opposed to Ohio State and Georgia, you
start to look at how do we protect our better teams?

Speaker 1 (12:03):
And it's not that Ohio State doesn't need protection. Georgia
doesn't need production.

Speaker 2 (12:07):
If you want to set up your best possible matchups,
the way to do that then would be to have
quarterfinals at home. To the point that Dan Lanning made
that you emphasized, because that would then allow them the opportunity.
And it's not that Ohio State needs protection or Georgia
needs protection. It's that the top four seeds may need protection.

(12:29):
And that's what's better for college football to have your
best teams there at the end. It's why the NBA
did away with a five game first round playoff best
of five first round playoff series because they didn't want
to see the Kenby Mutumbo lying on the court with
the basketball while the number one seeded Sonics go home
like That's the reason they didn't want their best team
in the West to not be there for the final

(12:50):
two months of the season. So, if you're college football,
because it's it's Ohio State in this situation, and it
may be Ohio State in more years than it would
be Miami, but you also want to make sure that
your bracket is entertaining. And I don't know if we
get a final four of Texas Tech, Indiana, Miami, and

(13:11):
Ole miss off of last year's Ohio State, Texas, Penn State,
Notre Dame.

Speaker 1 (13:16):
If we're going to get that same sort of interest.

Speaker 3 (13:18):
Do you think people were thrilled in college football when
it was TCU Georgia and the national championship?

Speaker 1 (13:24):
I know I wasn't because I left in the third quarter.

Speaker 5 (13:26):
Yeah, like I was there too. I didn't make it
that far.

Speaker 3 (13:29):
I did not make it that far because that also
was a torrential downpour and I got lost in the
parking lot try to find my truck.

Speaker 5 (13:35):
But I just I look at it.

Speaker 3 (13:38):
And when people complain about, well, you know, the brand
name teams and the big brand teams and all this
stuff and they get all the advantages, it's like, well,
first of all, you have.

Speaker 5 (13:48):
To earn that, Okay, so you earn that over time.

Speaker 3 (13:51):
And secondly, without I know, nobody wants to just admit this,
like this is a TV show. Ultimately, it's a TV product.
And so yeah, man, do you think they want Ole
Miss to be Georgia. No, they would love to set
up Hey, Carson Becks and his former team, Like they'd
love to present that because that would be a better
sell than Ole Miss.

Speaker 1 (14:11):
Might.

Speaker 5 (14:11):
It just would be And.

Speaker 3 (14:12):
People that get upset about that or get sensitive about it.
Tough balls man like that. That's the way of the world.
And so they are trying to set this up to
give the most compelling matchups. And if you were to
just say, right now, even after last night, who are
the best four teams in college football? I think we
all kind of know the rest of it is all
just kind of you know, add ons like it just

(14:35):
is what it is.

Speaker 5 (14:35):
You're going to get.

Speaker 3 (14:37):
You're going to get a name brand team at the end,
because the name brand teams are the best teams in
college football.

Speaker 2 (14:42):
And the expansion, there's some talk about maybe going from
twelve to fourteen. That wouldn't necessarily solve the buy. By
the way, there's some people who feel our good friend
John Ramos says, you know what the World Series is
the World Series. If the Dodgers went back to back, great,
If the Rangers beat the Diamondbacks same amount, guess what,
it's the World Series you should watch. And I don't

(15:04):
think a lot of people think that way. And so
I know there's someone in their car saying, you know,
why do we give favors? Why do we start a
TV show? We need to determine the champion. They are
determining the champion. But you're you'd be an idiot to
think that these conversations aren't happening all the time within
these committee meetings and figuring a way to make changes

(15:26):
and make this better.

Speaker 1 (15:26):
It's a reason why.

Speaker 2 (15:27):
Yeah, it's a reason why Boise State is no longer
going to get a first round by like after one
year they realized, yeah, maybe this isn't the greatest sort
of thing, Arizona State boys, let's make a change.

Speaker 1 (15:40):
Yeah, it work.

Speaker 3 (15:41):
Four seeds there works up. And also look Nick Saban.
When Nick Saban comes out who works on ESPN and
goes on a rant talking about how we should have
Notre Dame in over James Madison and he works at ESPN,
and he's the one telling you this doesn't make any sense.

(16:03):
And it's like it's not like he's just making that
up for a hot take. No, Like if you were
a college from when you're looking around, they're probably saying
to themselves, damn, we could have had Notre Damon, Like
you know, we could like that's a name brand, we
could have had it. And I do think that it's
probably going to expand to sixteen, which I'm fine with. Like,

(16:24):
I also think that there's this and I don't know
if you felt this as well too. There's way too
much complaining over something that if we just were to
like rush past, it's pretty awesome, Like it's a college
football playoff, and it's pretty awesome, and we're gonna get
to see more games and more big games, like we
got three more today, we had one last night. Like,

(16:45):
I still think that's awesome and that's great for the
sport because you could go through it, and we were
talking about this this week. You could go through every
playoff format in every single sport and find a flaw,
and trust me, we're going to get into a big one.
The NFL has come up, but you could go to
the NBA and say, do we really have to have
a seven game series? Like I think we kind of
know who's the better of the eight versus one team,

(17:08):
Like you could go through every single play Major League Baseball,
Like you could go through all of it and find
a flaw. Yeah, the college football Playoff has some flaws.
I still think overall, in general, I've been pleased with the.

Speaker 2 (17:19):
Product thus far. Yeah, I'm curious to see what it's
going to be like next week. Especially with Miami. Miami
doesn't have as big of a fan base. It's more
substantial than maybe some would think.

Speaker 1 (17:29):
But it's not like a Georgia or Ohio state.

Speaker 2 (17:34):
So now you've got the Texas A and M game,
which maybe we're a little bit more difficult to get
tickets to because it's.

Speaker 1 (17:39):
An A and M home game.

Speaker 2 (17:40):
Then you're in Dallas, and now you've got to go
and play in a Fiesta Bowl in Glendale, Arizona. And
the saving grace for them was it'd be a home
game for the National Championship. But we've talked about this
a lot when Big Ten, you know, got a championship game,
and now you're trying to determine when the college football
Playoff came in, what game am I going to go to?

Speaker 1 (18:00):
Am I going to pay? As a fan?

Speaker 2 (18:02):
I'm curious to see what the fans in stadium experience
is like in the Fiesta Bol when you now have
Miami in a school from the SEC playing in the
middle of the desert in Arizona. Yeah.

Speaker 3 (18:12):
And I also think, I mean, based on some of
the extra curriculars in Miami, you know, like that stuff
isn't cheap so you know, to be able to expect
them to pay for tickets out in Arizona when they
got to somehow figure out how they could make the
commute because they're not going to be allowed on the
plane with whatever they're carrying. I think is also something
that should be factored anywhere. You know, these are problems.
By the way, where are the sandwiches? Like, we're halfway

(18:34):
through the show and I haven't sperience look at brown
I just you know, it's eventually as soon as they
opened up.

Speaker 1 (18:41):
I think the thought that was your job. I don't know.

Speaker 3 (18:43):
I did.

Speaker 5 (18:44):
I take no prisoners, that take no sandwiches.

Speaker 3 (18:47):
By the way, update kirk Curve Streets on hat number three,
So he went blue towel, he went white hat. And
now they've somehow finagled a gray Rose Bowl hat for
kirk Curve Street.

Speaker 1 (18:58):
What is going on?

Speaker 2 (19:00):
That hat cost sixty five dollars If you merchant my stamp,
I guarante that's autiver Sety.

Speaker 1 (19:05):
I was like, why are we gonna go Rose Bowl again?

Speaker 3 (19:07):
Hey, by the way, we'll take eight whether way. You
know what hat I still have. Remember we went to
the US Open in Oakmont. Yeah, and I bought that
farmer's hat for no reason whatsoever. I look like Tom
Kite for no reason. I still have it. It works great.
Oh that was fifty bucks. Hey, you got a decade
decade long? Well, because I was like, man if I
got to blow through my per diem because I didn't

(19:28):
want to have to go back to annie Z and
be like, hey, I didn't spend it all, why not?
So you know what I just uh so I still
got it though, So Kirk Curve Street Lea is gonna happen.

Speaker 2 (19:37):
You almost got electrocuted and struck by lightning. So that
is made out with the per diem. That's true.

Speaker 3 (19:42):
Close as I ever came to a tornado, which I've
been wanting. That's my life goal is to tony feet.

Speaker 1 (19:47):
It was.

Speaker 3 (19:48):
And we're at the We're at the makeshift tent at
Radio row at in Oakmont at the US Open in
twenty sixteen, and there's lightning strikes knocking out everybody's power.

Speaker 2 (20:00):
By the way, as someone who grew up in the
Midwest like Mark did, we had tornado drills. The thing
that they told you to not do. They said, don't
go into tents with metal bars and lights and electricity
above you, And that was the entire media. Ye, yes,
you take shelter, you go underground. You don't go into
a tented building with scaffolding and electricity above you.

Speaker 1 (20:23):
It's not not ideal.

Speaker 3 (20:25):
And I couldn't figure out why Lee Trevino wouldn't stop
by for a hit. I couldn't figure it out. I
don't understand. I just know what.

Speaker 1 (20:30):
I don't know what the problem. I don't know what
the deal is either, what.

Speaker 5 (20:32):
Does he got a past of that stuff? It was
Lee Trevino, right, did I get my Yeah, he did
have a dad who doesn't know their lightning strike.

Speaker 1 (20:39):
Went over my head.

Speaker 2 (20:40):
I just thought you were naming a random golfer. But yes,
it was Lee timple Ball.

Speaker 5 (20:44):
Do that, Dan?

Speaker 6 (20:44):
Yeah?

Speaker 5 (20:46):
This close to being the guy from Caddyshack. Yeah, it's awesome.
It was awesome.

Speaker 3 (20:52):
It was great, but and for and also a the
other side. But I don't know if you remember this.
I remember opening up the curtain to the hotel we
were staying. I think it was like a Hyatt suits
or something like that, and literally the freeway was right there,
like if a car took too wide of a turn,
he was going to end up through the window in

(21:12):
the confluence of rivers and highways and bridges in downtown Pittsburgh.

Speaker 5 (21:16):
Yeah, like old he's a caddy.

Speaker 3 (21:19):

Speaker 1 (23:14):
We were talking about Raven Steelers earlier.

Speaker 2 (23:16):
The Saturday slates in the NFL has the NFC South
being decided and then the number one overall seed in
the NFC. So what that leaves for the rest of
the schedule at one o'clock Eastern time in four to
twenty five Eastern time on Sunday is a lot of
jockeying for position. And it's even that Jonas there are
some positions where the Eagles and Bears are going to

(23:38):
have decisions to make the AFC's number one overall seeds
still up for grabs, but the Chargers aren't playing any
of their players, so that's good news for the Broncos
who sit in the cat bird seed. But yeah, just
deciding on whether to play guys or not play guys
if you want to be here two or a three
seed is kind of the big drama that we've got
Sunday afternoon.

Speaker 3 (23:57):
Yeah, I think as far as the NFC goes, Fill
is reportedly going to be resting Jalen Hurts and other starters.
They've got Washington, so Tanner McKee. I believe it was
going to be the starting quarterback for Philadelphia and Washington.
I have no idea, like I mean at this point,
like you know, Mark Rippon might come back and we'll see.
But I just I wonder because if Philly wins and

(24:20):
the Bears lose, they'll be the two seed, meaning the Eagles,
and they would get the Packers in the opening round
as the two seven, and if they stay at three,
they're either going to get the Rams or the forty
nine ers. I'd much rather face green Bay based on
how banged.

Speaker 1 (24:35):
Up they are.

Speaker 5 (24:36):
I mean, like they're you know.

Speaker 3 (24:38):
Signing guys left and right just to try and fill
spots to have anybody. But I do get the approach
of we want to make sure we're totally healthy going
into this thing. It just is kind of interesting to
see what's the best way to play it because it
is a wide open year. So although you'd like I
look at it and I go if I'm the Bears,

(25:01):
I don't know that I want to see Green Bay
because they know them so well. You've seen them twice already.
They lost the first one. The Bears probably should have
lost the second one. So it just feels like one
of those Yeah, you want to be healthy and you
want to be ready to go, and I know you're
looking for advantageous matchups. I just think it's so wide
open this year that I don't know that there are
any other than you know, you get the NFC Soft team.

Speaker 2 (25:23):
Yeah, right, that's the cap bird seat. And that actually
throws into bear with me, Jonas. I understand that you
want to have a buy. That would be great. The
goal for every team is to have the buy and
home field advantage. It is such an advantage over everything
else of the other six playoff seeds. But I want

(25:44):
you to hear me out, and this has to do
with the Seahawks San Francisco game, because I do think
that the Bears should just go for it after what
happened last year, be the you know what, We're just
going to go for it. We're going to be the
number two seed. That's what we want to do. We're
gonna play our guys, We're gonna play it. And it's
not a matter of we don't care who we play.
It's just a matter of we want to do what

(26:05):
we think is best for us, and that would be
to get the highest seed. Possible, but I don't know
if the highest seed possible when it comes down to
the Seahawks in forty nine ers is maybe the better option.

Speaker 1 (26:17):
Hear me out on this.

Speaker 2 (26:19):
So if the Seahawks win, they are the one seed,
and that would put then San Francisco or LA at
the five or six seed. The forty nine ers in
RAMS can beat the Seahawks in Seattle like the Rams
were an overtime you know, two point conversion from beating them.
The Niners half beaten them. In fact, the forty nine

(26:40):
ers went to LA and beat the Rams when mac
Jones was starting a quarterback and brock Perty was out.
The Rams went to San Francisco and ended up beating
the forty nine ers. Those three teams, it doesn't Matt.
You can play it on Mars like it's going to
be a good game. So here's my point. So if
Seattle is the number one overall seed and we think

(27:03):
Green Bay is kind of out of it, let's just
say they are for the sake.

Speaker 1 (27:07):
Of this argument.

Speaker 2 (27:08):
If you're Seattle, you're getting a buye forty nine ers
in Rams or RAMS and then guess what or the
next round if you win, maybe forty nine Ers or
Rams like that would be a murders. I would almost
rather play Carolina on the road then maybe have to
play the Bears or Eagles and then have to deal
with one of those teams.

Speaker 1 (27:27):
Do you know what I'm saying?

Speaker 5 (27:28):
Like it's just the familiarity of it.

Speaker 1 (27:30):
Yeah, yeah, to that point.

Speaker 2 (27:32):
And I don't think that there's any advantage for the
Seahawks to be home in a game against the Rams
or San Francisco. The Seahawks lost in LA in the
game that they actually dominated. They turned the ball over
four times. The reason why they lost the game, but
it wasn't because of the home field advantage of it.
And so when you want to talk about a path,
the bye is the ultimate the rest that you want

(27:53):
to get. Home field is great, but I don't think
homefield matters as much to Seattle or San Francis. If
you have the Rams or San Francisco coming to your
building and the way the bracket would break out, I
wouldn't want to face both of those teams. I would
try to minimize it as much as possible. I almost
think it would be better to go play Carolina, the
Bears or Eagles and then try to settle it in

(28:14):
the NFC Championship game. I know it sounds ridiculous, but
when you're talking about paths, that actually may be a
better path than being the number one overall seeds.

Speaker 3 (28:23):
Yeah, I think there are two bye weeks in the
NFC playoffs. It's the one in the five seed, all right,
heavy bye weeks? Like you know, so like its just
I mean, Carolina and Tampa is a cute story at all,
and somebody's got to win it, so that's awesome, But
come on, man, like that division sucks. Tyler Shuck has
become a legitimate Rookie of the Year candidate based on

(28:44):
games he's played in that division. Okay, that's how bad
that division is.

Speaker 2 (28:49):
There is a scenario the Saints could be the second
best team, like with tigh breakers and how it breaks down,
they could have gotten the second best the second toughest schedule.

Speaker 1 (28:57):
They're like, what we were tanking this year? Like how
did this happen.

Speaker 3 (29:00):
In the Atlanta and the Atlanta three way tie scenario
is still out there.

Speaker 5 (29:04):
It's like the whole thing is bananas. But yeah, I'm
with you.

Speaker 3 (29:07):
It's it's one of those years where because of the history,
because I was thinking about this, and you would know.

Speaker 5 (29:13):
This being a Seahawks guy.

Speaker 3 (29:16):
What was the year when I believe Mark Bolger was
the quarterback for the Rams, and the Rams and Seahawks
met three times. They obviously in the regular season, and
then I believe the third time the team that had
lost the previous two to one in the plane.

Speaker 2 (29:32):
Yeah, I think it could have been three year old four.
That's probably about the Windows.

Speaker 3 (29:36):
And I remember the conversation being it's really hard to
beat a team three times, Like, it's really hard to do,
and it's because of the familiarity that goes along with it.
And so if you did get the Rams, like, look,
you lost the first game, you know, you probably should
have lost the second game. Yeah, that's anybody's game, Like,
I don't care to your point where that's played. Same

(29:57):
with the Niners. There's just too much familiar ciliarity. And
all of this is because the NFC South and the
NFC East.

Speaker 5 (30:06):
Have been awful this year.

Speaker 3 (30:07):
Had they done their damn part, okay, maybe this would
have opened things up a little bit. But now you
are going to see this. It's going to make for
a really interesting and fascinating playoffs. But I just don't
know that there's really an advantage other than whoever gets
the five.

Speaker 2 (30:22):
Yeah, and playing Green Bay over the Rams or San
Francisco is an extreme advantage. And it's why I think
that if the Bears just go all in, just win
the game, even if Philly's doing whatever, you never know
how it's gonna end up playing out, just like we
didn't know how it was going to play out last year.
Green Bay played with their food, did whatever against the Bear.
Chicago wins, and the Commanders come back and Terry McLaurin

(30:43):
scores a late touchdown against the Cowboys and the Commanders
end up, Hey, look at us, green Bay's got to
go to Philadelphia. Commanders end up getting the sixth seed,
go to Tampa, beat them on a Sunday night, beat
the Lions, and then they're playing in the NFC Championship Game.

Speaker 3 (30:56):
I also think everybody is so like they're so so many.
There are flaws and identify easy to identify flaws with
every single team.

Speaker 5 (31:07):
Like you know you were.

Speaker 3 (31:08):
You were playing out scenarios between the Seahawks and the
forty nine ers, and I believe one of the ones
we threw out was Sam Darnold throwing a pick to
Fred Warner, who doesn't have a working leg at this point.
But like they're like that is a concern. If the
Bears are the two seed, has anybody seen their defense

(31:28):
and they don't get turnovers? It's SIV they got problems
like that, that's a real issue. It's not offense. Defensively,
they got problems. We know what Philly's problems are. And
then whoever wins the NFC South. It just feels like
everybody this year on both sides, really that it's a
really flawed playoffs in the NFL.

Speaker 1 (31:47):
Isshue, do we just call them the NFC mouth?

Speaker 2 (31:49):
I mean like you were like, really, it is a
bunch of hot air, Like that's that's all it is,
and that's all that division matters.

Speaker 3 (31:55):
Can I ask you if you had to root for
one team to win the NFC South, who would be one?
And I mean the four, just of the two, just
of the two Tampa and Carolina Carolina?

Speaker 1 (32:07):
Yeah would yeah?

Speaker 2 (32:08):
Because I don't want to hear like Baker's on a run,
like Baker's on a heater. Never know what Baker Mayfield's
gonna do. It's probably gonna throw an interception in the
red zone, because that's how the season's gone from oh
geez against Miami, like and until Baker hates what about
the creamsicles though?

Speaker 1 (32:22):
Oh those? Yeah, that's was that where you thought I
was going?

Speaker 2 (32:25):
Now, okay, but yeah, those greatest uniform in sports it
is Buco Bruce. They in fact, they should have duck
Bucko Bruce just into the Hall of Fame, like you
know what Philip Rivers is Like I'm bowing out. You
know what, Bucco Bruce.

Speaker 1 (32:36):
You take his.

Speaker 3 (32:37):
Spot, we'll vote, We'll vote for him with you, or
take OJ's spot.

Speaker 1 (32:42):
I retired his number.

Speaker 5 (32:43):
Well he's not doing anything.

Speaker 2 (32:45):
Is Michael Badgley really gonna make kicks with wearing number
thirty two?

Speaker 1 (32:49):
Yeah?

Speaker 2 (32:50):
Like you're like really like like you're just welcoming fate,
like bring it, bring it. I'm surprised, is it extra
point didn't triple doink right?

Speaker 1 (32:57):
Instead? It was just blocked.

Speaker 3 (33:00):
It's like, uh yeah, I look at it and I
go it's it's very flawed. But I'm with you. I
would go Carolina as well too, just because the Bryce
Young Dave canal Like I've said this before, I think
Dave Canalis and Bryce Young are the two nicest people
in the NFL. Like they just like seem like genuinely

(33:21):
nice people, and it would be cool to see them
get an opportunity to go to the playoffs. I don't
know many Carolina Panther fans. I think I know too.
One of them is Big Mike, you know who works here,
and I'd love nothing more than for him to come
in and go.

Speaker 5 (33:38):
Panthers, Like I want that to happen. Off, Bryce Young.

Speaker 2 (33:48):
Bitch, Patrick, I need you to come in early for
two pros and NFC South champs.

Speaker 5 (33:56):
Exactly what you would do.

Speaker 3 (34:00):
So I do want to see and live in a
world where Carolina gets in with Bryce hung as their quarterback.
But again, this is the AFC North version of the
NFC in which it's going to be a one and
done and whoever gets you in the first round is
probably pretty pleased with it.

Speaker 5 (34:18):
Like they're probably pretty pleased with that matchup. It's the
second by week of the NFC playoffs.

Speaker 2 (34:22):
Yeah there's I'll tell you what I won't be doing
on Saturday, locking up in front of Panthers Buccaneers. What
are you doing, NFL? Just put it on a Sunday,
you know, like it's good. It's totally fine. You going
to cancel plans again? You know, tell your wife?

Speaker 1 (34:40):
Sorry, babe, cancel plans? Yeah?

Speaker 5 (34:42):
I made them. What do you mean?

Speaker 1 (34:44):
Sorry?

Speaker 2 (34:46):
Young and Baker for division supremacy. I have a colored
grid that someone made of all the scenarios and because
of the Falcons tiebreaker, they can't even color in Carolina
Tampa Bay like on what the scenario is hight Yeah,
because of the Falcons ability, it's ruining everything. Way to
go NFC South.

Speaker 3 (35:02):
Yeah, it's a real, real crapshoot. It is the Dan
Patrick Show here on Fox Sports Radio. He's Dan Byer.
I'm Jonas Knox in for Dan and the guys. Up
next though, we're going to tell you about speeches and
more importantly, speech has gone wrong and it's yours here
on FSR.

Happy New Year, Happy twenty twenty six. He is Jonas Knox.
I'm Dan Byer sitting in for Dan Patrick today Here
Jonas every weekday morning on Two Pros and a Cup
of Joe six o'clock eastern, three Pacific. You can hear
me WEEKD afternoons here on Fox Sports Radio. Mark Ramsey's
hanging out with us. Patrick SWEEKA is here. Patrick, If

(35:52):
you don't mind, can I ask?

Speaker 1 (35:53):
Can I ask? How old you are? Are you cool?
Like you get all right? How old? Ayah? Thirty years old?

Speaker 2 (35:58):
Thirty years old? So that means Gary Danielson was calling
college football games six years before you were born. So
a thirty six year broadcasting career added on to a
college and NFL quarterbacking career. Well, that came to an
end yesterday, Jonas. I don't know if he saw it.
On the Sun Bowl. The Arizona State Duke game was

(36:22):
kind of overshadowed. Great game, Duke ends up winning, but
it's Gary Danielson's last broadcast. In his last broadcast, he's
surrounded by his friends, his colleague Brad Nessler, all the
crew around him on CBS. And this is how they
sent Gary Danielson off after thirty six years of broadcasting football.

Speaker 1 (36:45):
And everybody else.

Speaker 8 (36:46):
I wanted everybody else in this shot saying goodbye.

Speaker 5 (36:49):
It's been team all the.

Speaker 1 (36:51):
Way, everything we've done.

Speaker 8 (36:53):
Great camera crew, yes, we're all wearing Gary stickers. There's
the trikes you guys, as Verne would have said, appreciate it.

Speaker 5 (37:02):
All, Yes, sir, Yes, sir. We are going to have
a great time tonight. So look at those guys.

Speaker 1 (37:08):
How are we gonna get off?

Speaker 9 (37:09):
There?

Speaker 1 (37:09):
Listen?

Speaker 5 (37:10):
One more thing. It's sometimes you can say, how do
you get off?

Speaker 1 (37:14):
This guy right here.

Speaker 7 (37:16):
Doing us.

Speaker 9 (37:27):
And it's a wide shot of like twelve people and
you see a lady with the countdown five four. We
know it in this business and may not have been Listen,
We're gonna have our own what we call heartbreak coming
up in just a little bit. But Gary Danielson, after
thirty six years of broadcasting, is like, I don't care
stop sign.

Speaker 1 (37:50):
We're going right through it.

Speaker 2 (37:52):
So that is how Gary Danielson had this sign off
after thirty six years at CBS.

Speaker 3 (37:59):
I mean, when you think of Gary Danielson, what do
you think of I think of the CBS theme music.

Speaker 2 (38:06):
Yes, I think of SEC football, I think of everything. Yes,
I felt bad for him like the last two years
because he used to be like we're live in Tusca,
Lusa alongside Gary Danielson on Brad Neesler it's ELSU and
Alabama and now they're like live from Minneapolis, purdw in Minnesota.

Speaker 5 (38:26):
Yeah, CP, we're gonna roll the boat. Gary.

Speaker 2 (38:29):
Oh, like, hey, we're gonna give you two years of
Big ten mediocre football on your way out. Not only that,
we're gonna cut off your goodbye speech. And I thought,
what about a CBS. I don't know, like ran other
broadcasts like memorable moments. Remember Super Bowl thirty two, John
Elway finally beats the Packers or finally wins the Super

(38:51):
Bowl by beating the Packers, and I forget Pat Bowlin
on the stage, the late Broncos owner about to give
the Lombardi Trophy toe John Elway.

Speaker 5 (39:02):
WHOA.

Speaker 8 (39:04):
I haven't wanted that this would be like, you know,
I want to express my appreciation all my fans, my
coaching staff, and all my organization. But there's one thing
I want to say here tonight. There's only four words.
This one's bored.

Speaker 10 (39:23):
Joint hosts Party Burdcrutcher, along with Jason Albean, Lady Wilson's,
Saley Zimmerman, and more country's biggest names. One massive night.

Speaker 5 (39:35):
Fist ones for Jason Alban.

Speaker 1 (39:39):
Mock out about it.

Speaker 9 (39:44):
Years I felt really bad, but it's so so hilarious.

Speaker 5 (39:51):
It's unfortunate. Man, live TV.

Speaker 2 (39:55):
It does and everybody's there, like the cruise there, you
don't get to see the crew a lot, and it's
the last time. It's not like they can like then
do it on the other side where the local news is.
So do you remember when Kevin Durant won the m
v P.

Speaker 5 (40:08):
Yeah, of course I do.

Speaker 2 (40:10):
But if it was on CBS, this is probably what
it would have sounded like.

Speaker 1 (40:15):
When something good happens to you.

Speaker 11 (40:17):
I don't know about you, guys, but I tend to
look back to what brought me here. You made us believe,
We kept us off the street, put clothes on our backs,
food on the table. When you didn't eat, you made
sure we ate. You want to sleep hungry? You sacrifice
for us.

Speaker 10 (40:34):
Join hosts Party, Hello with Jason Alvin, Country's Biggest.

Speaker 1 (40:41):
Things, Kevin Durant's mom, the real MVP.

Speaker 3 (40:47):
Oh my god, it is h Yeah, it is unfortunate,
you know, to send out a legend with a with
a bag of craft like Gary Danielson got Did you.

Speaker 1 (40:58):
Know did you know that?

Speaker 2 (41:00):
I mean he was with brad Nessler for like the
last decade. And I hate to say, because you can't
forget Verneah, but like I did like associated. I'm like
like I got used to Nessler and Danielson, you know,
like during that time.

Speaker 3 (41:14):
So yeah, you asked me like, uh, you know whether
I whether or not I liked you know, Vern better,
and I said maybe, yes, sir.

Speaker 2 (41:25):
Oh Man, Uncle Vern one of the greatest. That was
great that they included him as well, like in the clips.
You obviously wasn't in the booth, but Gary Danielson send off,
it just was unfortunate. I felt so bad because when
you actually see the video and I'll end up retweeting it.
Get Jonah said the Jonahs Knox. You can find me

(41:47):
at Dan Buyer on Fox. You see the girl and
she's counting down with her hand, and I know what
that means, three two and yeah there are was I go, yes,
But it did end like kind of in a close
spot for Gary.

Speaker 1 (42:03):
Uh, but just too bad ahead end though.

Speaker 3 (42:05):
It's it's like you know when they try and you know,
wrap somebody up at the Oscars, they just start playing
the song and the guys looking around go hold on
a second biggest moment in my career and I got
some jackass telling me, hey, buddy, we got to get
to uh, we got to get to the next speech.
Oh you're gonna the one art direction right what? You
had that bad comedy bit to open up the show.

(42:26):
And I'm sitting here having to wrap up my speech
to give a shout out to my deceased loved ones.

Speaker 5 (42:31):
Disgusting. You know, it's not though hour three and it's
next

The Burden

The Burden

The Burden is a documentary series that takes listeners into the hidden places where justice is done (and undone). It dives deep into the lives of heroes and villains. And it focuses a spotlight on those who triumph even when the odds are against them. Season 5 - The Burden: Death & Deceit in Alliance On April Fools Day 1999, 26-year-old Yvonne Layne was found murdered in her Alliance, Ohio home. David Thorne, her ex-boyfriend and father of one of her children, was instantly a suspect. Another young man admitted to the murder, and David breathed a sigh of relief, until the confessed murderer fingered David; “He paid me to do it.” David was sentenced to life without parole. Two decades later, Pulitzer winner and podcast host, Maggie Freleng (Bone Valley Season 3: Graves County, Wrongful Conviction, Suave) launched a “live” investigation into David's conviction alongside Jason Baldwin (himself wrongfully convicted as a member of the West Memphis Three). Maggie had come to believe that the entire investigation of David was botched by the tiny local police department, or worse, covered up the real killer. Was Maggie correct? Was David’s claim of innocence credible? In Death and Deceit in Alliance, Maggie recounts the case that launched her career, and ultimately, “broke” her.” The results will shock the listener and reduce Maggie to tears and self-doubt. This is not your typical wrongful conviction story. In fact, it turns the genre on its head. It asks the question: What if our champions are foolish? Season 4 - The Burden: Get the Money and Run “Trying to murder my father, this was the thing that put me on the path.” That’s Joe Loya and that path was bank robbery. Bank, bank, bank, bank, bank. In season 4 of The Burden: Get the Money and Run, we hear from Joe who was once the most prolific bank robber in Southern California, and beyond. He used disguises, body doubles, proxies. He leaped over counters, grabbed the money and ran. Even as the FBI was closing in. It was a showdown between a daring bank robber, and a patient FBI agent. Joe was no ordinary bank robber. He was bright, articulate, charismatic, and driven by a dark rage that he summoned up at will. In seven episodes, Joe tells all: the what, the how… and the why. Including why he tried to murder his father. Season 3 - The Burden: Avenger Miriam Lewin is one of Argentina’s leading journalists today. At 19 years old, she was kidnapped off the streets of Buenos Aires for her political activism and thrown into a concentration camp. Thousands of her fellow inmates were executed, tossed alive from a cargo plane into the ocean. Miriam, along with a handful of others, will survive the camp. Then as a journalist, she will wage a decades long campaign to bring her tormentors to justice. Avenger is about one woman’s triumphant battle against unbelievable odds to survive torture, claim justice for the crimes done against her and others like her, and change the future of her country. For years, Scarcella insisted he did nothing wrong. But that’s all he’d say.
