Speaker 1 (00:01):
Don't listening to Fox Sports Radio radio happened twenty twenty
six in Jonas. I honestly, as an Ohio State fan,
could not picked a worse morning to get up and
start a day, let alone an entire new year after
the debacle last night in Dallas.
Speaker 2 (00:18):
Hold on a second, you don't want to open up
with the Tony the Tiger sun shooting break down.
Speaker 1 (00:23):
That see you later, Gary Danielson, the cheese at Citrus Bowl,
Arch Manning throwing shade at the Citrus Bowl. If I
would have said it's fifty five degrees out, I don't go,
let's go skating on the pond, that would have been
a better decision than coming in today after what happened
last night. My resolution for twenty twenty six better planning,
(00:45):
Better planning. It's not that I thought Ohio State would win.
I just never took into account what would happen if
they lost, and it was on full display last night.
If not even for one second of the game, Miami
had the buck guys by the neck, and the Canes
are onto the College Football semi Finals and there will
(01:06):
not be a repeat champion in college football.
Speaker 2 (01:08):
It didn't it feel like first of all, Happy New
Year to everybody listening who's making us a part of
their the first listen or second listener or whatever your
first moments of twenty twenty six. But didn't it feel
like watching that game, it was just kind of meant
to be Miami's night, Like everything just see like the
like Tony dropping the ball in it, bouncing back up
(01:29):
to it, like everything just seemed to go the way
of the Canes last night. And it just Ohio State
looks flat. Man, they look flat. And that's been the
story with whether we want to get into teams with
a buyer zero to five. But it's a you know,
it's a small sample size, so what does that really mean.
It just looked like Miami was ready to go and
(01:49):
Ohio State was flat and couldn't really get it going
until the second half.
Speaker 1 (01:53):
Carson Wentz turns into Marshawn Lynch and is like running
over guys for first downs like this is like it was.
It was. It was a crazy and even when you
thought maybe Ohio State had a chance miss a field goal,
which has been a bugaboo of theirs, especially in games
that they've lost previously, the pressure got to Julian saying,
But the most crazy thing of all of all of
(02:14):
this that I like, my takeaway and looking at this
is how much people hate Ohio State and how much
they actually probably hate the Big Ten more than the SEC.
And the reason that I say this is last night
on social media the sense that I got, and it
may have been Jonas because of the lead in. Remember
(02:35):
the Big Ten record of these bowl games, you know,
Big ten A six SEC had two wins and one
of them was at a game between the SEC and
the SEC. That was one of their wins heading into.
Speaker 2 (02:46):
Ironically, they didn't count that as a loss though. They
move that off to the side.
Speaker 1 (02:51):
But think about this, Think about the days of when
you were growing up watching football. I was growing up
watching football. So many of us we're watching football. It's
not like the you was everyone's favorite, and when you
get to the NFL, everybody hated the Dallas Cowboys except
if you were a Cowboys fan. So last night I
(03:13):
felt this sense of everyone is on the side of
Michael Irvin and the uh like as playmakers on the sidelines.
Speaker 2 (03:21):
He's doing his thing, bta's beltst my first Don.
Speaker 1 (03:26):
And ray Lewis is standing there. Dude, I'm like, America
is behind the Canes.
Speaker 2 (03:32):
I get it. If you want to be in a
lum and you want to go root on your team,
I totally get it. But when Michael Irvin's got a
belt and he's whipping a Gatorade bucket after the gate, like,
what are we doing here? Dude? Like, well, like, what
is happening?
Speaker 1 (03:44):
The same shirt again, the you that like goes along
the arms and the same guild. Like I honestly got
a kick out of it against Texas A and m
not so much last night as as I thought that
maybe I would obviously being facetious. But that's the point
is like people are like, yeah, do your thing, Michael Irvin.
Speaker 2 (04:03):
Oh yeah, do your America's team.
Speaker 1 (04:06):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (04:06):
Does everybody remember there was a T shirt that was
Catholics first Convicts. Do you know who the convicts were?
It was that team that Michael Irvin was putting belt
to ass on a Gatorade jug for Like, that was
the convicts on that side of it.
Speaker 1 (04:20):
And last night, in the final day of twenty twenty five,
it's what America can rally behind, Republicans and Democrats coming together,
the religions, uniting everyone of race, religion and color coming
behind the Miami Hurricanes as they knock off the Big
Ten's Ohio State Buckeyes.
Speaker 2 (04:41):
I mean, you know, maybe it was you know, a
little payback for what happened in two thousand and three.
You know, just the awful, the the the call that
was made that that cost you know, Ken Dorsey and
Company a National Chances ship and Willis mcgahee's knee turning
into a wind sock like that. You know, there was
all that that went on. But I just it no,
(05:01):
like there can never be a middle ground in college football.
It is and you mentioned politics, it's one side, like
you either really love something or you absolutely hate it,
and that was on full display last night.
Speaker 3 (05:14):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (05:14):
Do you think Notre Dame fans were cheering for Ohio
State because I think that would be a tough cheer
for them, But with Miami's place in all of this,
because I think that's also then Now part of this
conversation is because so much was made about Miami's inclusion
into the bracket, with Notre Dame obviously being left out.
But is there a sense now that Miami has arrived
(05:38):
Because I've never bought into that in the NCAA tournament
when a final like a first four team makes a
run like VCU and it's like, you know, they showed
they belong And I'm like, well, no, the resume would
have showed that they belonged. But I'm trying to decipher
if it's different in college football because of how small
this landscape is.
Speaker 2 (05:55):
Well, like, I have a buddy who's a Miami fan
and he was like, man, it's crazy that they even
had that, there was any conversation about them not getting in.
And it's like, well, not really, Like it's not really crazy,
Like like what your resume is your resume and if
they had slip ups during the regular season, you should
be held accountable for that, and they did so once
(06:16):
you get in and it's a one, one game situation
and it's a you know, win an advanced situation like
the NCAA tournament. Like, once you're in the door, it
opens up all sorts of opportunities, all sorts of potential.
It doesn't justify why you should be in just because
you made a run, just like I don't know that
it justifies why James Madison shouldn't have been in because
(06:38):
they got wiped out that's very possible that could happen. Look,
Miami could get annihilated next game against Georgia like that,
that's really possible and really could happen. It's these one
you don't get multiple chances to play that game out.
If they're playing a best of five, Ohio State probably
wins three to one, like they'll win the next three
games and move on. Yeah, I look at it, and
(06:58):
I go once you get an opportunity to go in,
anybody can play the lotto, like nobody's got an advantage
over somebody else. Miami played the lotto, they got in,
they won, Now they move on. I don't know if
this justifies them getting out.
Speaker 1 (07:12):
Yeah, and there's there's no way that because I look
at what went wrong with the game last night from
the Ohio State perspective, and the missfield goal was something,
but it wasn't nothing, but it wasn't everything. It was
what happened on the defensive line with Miami getting after
Julian Sand Ohio State's run. Game had moments and really
(07:34):
like the final score was twenty four to fourteen, it
was probably a twenty four to fourteen game, but as
it played out, it was closer it was seventeen to fourteen.
You know, at a time Ohio State had a chance
to end up taking the lead. But when you look
at how Miami dominated the first half, I mean it
was domination and it was fourteen to nothing going into halftime,
dominated time of possession, dominated the line of scrimmage. They
(07:56):
even had a turnover, but they turnover was kind of
changed on the pick six at Miami ended up happening.
The point being is, I don't think that we look
at Miami now and say, wow, the acc was something.
Speaker 2 (08:08):
Maybe yeah, yeah, Like look what I mean, they did
win that conference, right, I know, okay.
Speaker 1 (08:14):
They well know they lost in the championship game, right.
But the point being is, when we're trying to decipher
these conference strengths, now, this is a huge hit for
Ohio State because Ohio State's resume was put into question
on who they play and who they didn't play. Now,
a lot of that's not necessarily their fault their fault.
(08:36):
It's not their fault that James Franklin got fired by
Penn State and Drew Aller ends up suffering a season
ending injury and Penn State wasn't the preseason national championship
contender that you thought they were going to be. They
ended up putting Tech. They having Texas on the schedule, Well,
Texas maybe doesn't live up to what their preseason billing was.
That's really not Ohio State's fault in this scenario. However,
(08:58):
when you're talking about conference supremacy, which is what we
were talking about with people from the Big Ten, including myself,
trying to make these bowl games mean something and say,
see the Big Ten's, you know, up to a certain
point undefeated. Now Nebraska got ran over by Utah and
the Las Vegas Bowl, Michigan lost to Texas, and now
Ohio State ends up falling to Miami. It wasn't a
(09:18):
banner day for the Big Ten on New Year's Eve.
But when we're trying to decipher on what conference is better,
on what conference is worse, it's tough to do it
when you're doing it in conference play because you have
no idea on who is good and who isn't good.
So the only thing that you have are the few
non conference opportunities. And as crazy as it is, the
bowl season or the playoffs, and the bowl season, we
know is ridiculous with all of the players that are
(09:40):
sitting out for certain schools or some that just aren't
playing the bowl game. Some are going to the NFL Draft.
The College Football Playoff at least gives you these schools
at full strength. And so now the Big Ten doesn't
have a lot of breaking rights because one of their powers.
Now it's up to Indiana and Oregon to carry it.
But their main power and defending national champion did not
look the part last night, and that's not good for
(10:01):
the Big Ten.
Speaker 2 (10:02):
Yeah, it came out completely flat. As we mentioned, your guy,
Ryan Day, one of the all time great beards, and
I saw a lot of people last night making jokes
about he needs to go back and dies beard. He
needs It's like, okay, like, let's stop focus on the
negative stuff, Like it wasn't that long ago. We opened
up the year and I remember being on the air
and one of the big things going on on social
(10:22):
media with Ryan Day was whether or not he had
a nipple piercing, because there was some picture that was
posted of him doing a halftime interview with that with
Jenny Taft, and it's like, oh no, that was just
a I generated, Like wait, what.
Speaker 1 (10:38):
Surprised it was the bar bell? Right, that's not like
a ring.
Speaker 2 (10:42):
Yeah, not a ring like I don't think it'd be
like a you know, like a Buckeye like you know,
the horseshoe or championship ring last year exactly. But instead, no,
that was the that was the making the round. It's
like the first first weekend of college football, you know,
other than Week zero, and it's Texas Ohio State and
we're focused on Ryan Day's nip piercing. But your guy
Ryan Day did talk afterwards in dealing with the defeat
(11:05):
to the Miami Hurricanes America's team post game.
Speaker 3 (11:08):
You know, we got obviously got a team of guys
that you know, have poured a lot into this program.
And you know, some some guys this will be their
last game as Buckeyes, and so it's gonna hurt and
sting and and so you know, I just I want
to make sure that they still know how much we
appreciate everything they do and everything.
Speaker 2 (11:26):
They've done for this program.
Speaker 3 (11:28):
But it hurts right now, and it hurts for those guys,
and so you know, they put a lot of work
and time into this thing. So it's our job as
coaches to make sure that, you know, we figure out
ways to put them in a situation to be successful.
So at the end of the day, it's our responsibility
to do that, and we got to take a hard
look at that and figure out what it is that
we got to get done to get better.
Speaker 2 (11:48):
That was Ryan Day, Ohio State head coach. Now it
does put to test the theory, beat Michigan or win
a national title.
Speaker 1 (11:56):
Yeah, I'll honestly like the only game that mattered this
year was November twenty ninth, twenty twenty five.
Speaker 2 (12:04):
And ultimately the last win of their season.
Speaker 1 (12:06):
Yes, yes, And I don't know if that I felt
it played a role into the Indiana game. I don't
know if it played a role into this game. I
think that they were further along with it. I do
think that some people thought it's playoff time, just turn it.
They'll turn it on again and go on a run.
Like we have one playoff of evidence that Ohio State
(12:27):
like would do this sort of thing, and that was
last year. But I think people just assumed maybe they
would go on a run again because it's playoff time
and that's what they do, and that never was a reality.
In fact, Jonas, when you talk about the Michigan win,
the Michigan team that they beat wasn't close to the
previous Michigan teams that had won the last four against
(12:47):
Ohio State. Indiana did a good job along the offensive
and defensive lines in the Big Ten title game, and
Miami had an edge like their defensive line last night,
was able to get after Julian saying and at times
keep the run game and check the only reason I'm
not trying to make this Ohio State postgame. But the
point is this, They're losing Brian Hartline's cos offensive coordinator
(13:10):
and he's going to South Florida as their head coach.
And Brian Hartline's the reason that Jeremiah Smith is there.
He's the reason that Marvin Harrison Junior went there, a
Mecca Abuka and all of these wide receivers. But sometimes
you have to win along the line of scrimmage. And
that's going to be interesting to see how Ohio State
carries on. Are you still able to bring in the
(13:32):
type of talent at the receiver position with now your
main guy in Tampa or now are you going to
be able to try to pivot to try to strengthen
those lines, because that was the best part of the
Urban Meyer run. They were good up front, and they
ran the football and they had some of the best
defensive linemen that you'd ever seen. That that was the recipe,
(13:53):
and I still think that's the recipe in college football.
So that's what's going to be interesting to see from
Ohio State from here on out, because I think the
last two games, it didn't matter if you had Carnell Playton,
Jerremi Smith, and if Chris Henry Junior is coming in
next year. It's what you do up front that's going
to be the real big test for Ryan Day.
Speaker 2 (14:09):
And also, and let me defend you in this regard,
if there's people listening that go, oh, well, this is
Ohio State postgame, I'm sorry, that's the story here. Did
anybody see Miami's first edition of their appearance in the
College Football Playoff this year? That was one of the
worst games I've ever seen in my life. Okay, Miami
and Texas A and m set football back all three
(14:29):
phases at least thirty five years. That was awful. So
yet nobody expected this. It's why they were as big
of an underdog as they were going into it. So
the fact that the defending national champions, who you would
assume would have a red ass would come in trying
to win another title, losing to Indiana and the way
that they did, where all these fluky things happened and
(14:51):
Indiana pulled off the miracle and what like, Yeah, that
is the story. This was a big upset. This isn't
look if Oregon loses to Texas tech like text TeX's
a slight underdog and we're you know, we can get
into the Dan Lanning comments and all that, but this
was a big upset. A lot of people didn't think
Miami could do this. Congratulations to them, but you do
(15:13):
have to start to look at what happens now because
there was a lot of conversation about k in Ohio
State Michigan. They did, and now the conversation becomes a
real one. You mentioned Brian Hartline leaving. You mentioned like
it feels like they've got their quarterback of the future,
but if he doesn't have the guys to throw to,
then what I think all that's pertinent?
Speaker 1 (15:31):
Yeah, it's Miami had eighty five percent of America behind them.
You know, those four quarterfinal games that we have, the
three that we have coming up today, not one can
match the result of what last night was like even
if if Alabama beats Indiana, like it's like we're like, oh,
of course it's Alabama, you know, right, or the Indiana wins,
it's all right, the Indiana's rolling. But to your point
(15:52):
about Texas Tech and Oregon and the same thing with
the SEC rematch. If all Miss beats Georgia in an upset,
you're like, wow, Lincoln and really maybe wasn't needed there.
But like this is the this is the big one,
just because of Ohio State, because of the Big Ten,
because they're the defending national champions, and because, let's be honest,
(16:12):
everybody pretty much hates them and people are cheering with
Michael Irvan because of that.
Speaker 2 (16:17):
Yeah, bell toa ass, Dan, all right, bta. By the way,
I do what you remember? Uh you know cole Wright
Fox Sports Radio, lum Yeah right, uh yeah, buddy of mine.
He works in Chicago, does all the My son's a
big fan because he does all the postgame cub stuff
for Marquee and cole Wright posted on social media last
night a side by side of Carson Beck and Squints
(16:40):
from sand Lot Squeak. God, God, it's like squints on stilts.
Most unbelievable comp I've ever seen.
Speaker 1 (16:50):
By the way, this morning, speaking of the Cubs, the
comp for you would be if they're like, hey, Jonas,
we're gonna need you to come in after game six
and seven of the two thousand and three and I'll sees,
so can you just do the morning show? And yeah,
just do you just break that down? If you can,
we just need you on the mornings after game six.
Like I said, it.
Speaker 2 (17:11):
Would have been three hours of threatening Bartman like are
you kidding? By gladly?
Speaker 4 (17:15):
Yes?

we've known Ray Lewis and his energy, but last night
he was like a silent pump compared to what Michael
Irvin was doing on the sidelines, and America was whooping.

and the Dan Nets. Today, three college football playoff quarterfinals

Speaker 2 (21:09):
They might go all the way. It's a direct right
to the other town.
Speaker 1 (21:11):
He's at the thirty twenty fifteen ten but touchdown, Tex down,
kyat de Scott.
Speaker 2 (21:19):
It's kyat de Scott.
Speaker 1 (21:20):
He jumped the route seventy eight yards where Bamy touchdown.
Jeez mabe fourteen nothing. Sorry, Dan, that's all right.
Speaker 2 (21:31):
I'm so sorry, Dandy.
Speaker 1 (21:33):
What we are you gonna play the Jesuid Citrus Bowl
or man?
Speaker 2 (21:37):
Mark? Yeah? Hey, Mark, why you're gonna watch you dig
up my dead dog too? You got the heart of
a thief. Mark.
Speaker 1 (21:43):
Mark's on the South side of Chicago. No prisoners taken whatsoever?
Speaker 2 (21:47):
Apparently? No prisoners none? No presides, Oh my god.
Speaker 1 (21:51):
Mark's New Year's resolution take even less prisoners. Yeah, like
even less than he has before.
Speaker 2 (21:56):
And that was none prior By the way Mark was
arrested for urinating on the side of Wrigley Field one really, really,
he's got a comisky tattoo somewhere, honest, dude. I think
his Newys resolution was he woke up and shows violence.
Wow my god, Wow, Mark, I'll tell you what rude.
Speaker 1 (22:14):
One city with two absolute gems of ballparks, right, I
mean Wrigley Field and whatever that thing is, the White
Sox plan.
Speaker 2 (22:26):
Something where somebody may or may not have been shot
in the outfield and nobody still knows. Like, yeah, we're
not sure. I'm not really sure what happen.
Speaker 1 (22:34):
This beautiful skyline of Chicago. Look at Licky. We could
put the stadium. Why don't we just do it the
other way. Let's just get a picture of the freeway. Okay,
sounds good to me.
Speaker 2 (22:46):
That's great. Great.
Speaker 1 (22:48):
Those same people probably came up with the Week eighteen
schedule in the NFL. Oh, geez, are you are you jacked?
For raven Steelers.
Speaker 2 (23:00):
Here's my problem with the Ravens and the Steelers. All Right.
I want to say this as somebody who admittedly picked
the Ravens to go to the Super Bowl. All Right,
So the Ravens and Packers were my Super Bowl pick
before the season, and my problem with the Ravens is
that I'm pot committed to it, so I just have
to keep on rioting with them and acknowledging at the
(23:24):
same time they're not good. Like at some point, like
we can all stop with this. Yeah, but you know
what if they can just get this right. It's week eighteen, Okay,
we got four months of evidence, Like we know who's good,
we know who's not good, and they're not very good,
and neither is Pittsburgh.
Speaker 1 (23:42):
Everybody just wants to think that it's going to be
the run Brigade with Lamar Jackson, who hasn't Joan. He's
been able to run since week four in Derrick Henry,
and the problem is with your theory, Jonas is Derrick
Henry last week showed that he could run. So now
it gives ammunition to all the people who experts think
the Raiders or the Ravens have something going that now
(24:05):
is when it turns out, Yeah, me, I'm one of that.
Speaker 2 (24:07):
Yes, yes, of course I take de bait. Every turn
is yes, Hey that stripper really likes me. No she doesn't,
she does not. Okay, you are a paycheck your cash.
That's it. She does not care. And I'm the same
guy fall fix for this every time. And I'll let
you know this right now. I'm probably gonna bet on
the Ravens. I probably am, and they're probably gonna kick
me right in the nuts like they've done all year long.
(24:29):
That's probably how it's gonna go. And then the conversation
becomes the future of Aaron Rodgers. That's the other big
storyline that goes along with all this. Mike Tomlin, the
head coach of the Pittsburgh Steelers, he spoke about this
potentially being the final game for Aaron Rodgers. Let's say
a listen, I don't know that.
Speaker 6 (24:48):
I've taken time to ponder that. I'm just committed to
making sure that it's not. He's certainly been an awesome
contributor to our efforts, and not only from a couent
perspective and an experienced person, but just his professionalism, his
relationship with the game, his love for his teammates, and
his willingness to help them grow and get better and
(25:09):
gain better understanding each and every day has been It's
been cool to.
Speaker 2 (25:12):
Be a part of. Here's what I do know if
this week is an Aaron Rodgers final game the next
week will be so there is that this is a and.
Speaker 1 (25:22):
That is the point that I just don't understand about
this scheduling. And when I look at the Saturday schedule,
it's the same thing for the Buccaneers and Panthers, right Like,
there's just Ravens and Steelers have way more cachet than
the Buccaneers and Panthers.
Speaker 2 (25:39):
And I don't mean to sound who are the Bucks
and the Panthers? Right that division still exists? Oh, I
had no idea.
Speaker 1 (25:46):
As we go to the NFC Mouth, the forty nine
in Seahawks game may not have the higher stakes to it,
but it's just a better football game, right Like, it's
just it's I don't know why, and I know why
they would shove the NFC East down our throats where
(26:08):
it's a Cowboys, Giants, Eagles, Cowboys, Giants Eagles, Commanders Cowboys
because of those markets. And we all know growing up
that the NFC East got so much favoritism with TV
and in the broadcast windows. Not so much now, but
it's still there. Like it's still like the Giants get
a bunch of more primetime games than they probably should,
(26:30):
and I feel like it's the same way with the
Steelers and Ravens. And while it may at one point
have been the greatest rivalry in the NFL going on
at that time, not of all time, but going on
at that time, that's not this. And you're absolutely right
of if the Steelers win, yeah, there's just one more
like this. Yeah, now is where you take your victory
(26:51):
lap and go around the field and celebrate, because it's
not gonna happen after the wild card game.
Speaker 2 (26:56):
It's it's the one and done. And that's the problem
I have with Pittsburgh. And look is it would it
be nice to have Rogers in the playoffs once again?
Of course, like, yeah, that would be great. He's one
of the all time greats, whatever you feel about him,
To have him out there, that would be awesome. The
problem is it's the same Steelers we've seen the last
(27:16):
ten years that they've gone to the playoffs, and what
are the last ten years they've gone to the playoffs?
Look like they get in and they're won and done.
We've seen this story so many times before. And I
would agree that Rogers has been an upgrade over what
they've had at quarterback, but let's not pretend like he's
lighting the league on fire. And I don't say that
to be disrespectful to him or anything. I just I
(27:39):
look at the offense and I go, all right, like
if Jalen Warren isn't, you know, ripping off a fifty
sixty yard run, Like what are we talking about here,
Like Kenneth gainwell, if he's not. And then DK Metcalf,
you know, is beating up some goofball in Detroit, so
he's not available. It's like, so I look at it
and I go, oh, yeah, it's all on the line.
And it was, you know, the lead surprising thing in
(28:01):
the world that NBC was going to roll that out
for their Sunday night football game. I totally understand. I
get it. If I had to pick, I think Baltimore's
probably the more likely to make a run. But I'm
not confident in that.
Speaker 1 (28:13):
Yeah, I am not either, because it's a it's a
stretch of three games, and I think that last week
against Green Bay fooled people. I also think that people
were fooled that these coaches really have their jobs on
the line, that that that the loser could go home
really with especially with Pittsburgh like Tomin's not going anywhere.
I mean, I know they lost last week to the Browns,
(28:35):
but you can you can blame it on DK Metcalf
if you want, you can blame it on Aaron Rodgers.
Speaker 2 (28:38):
Jeered Adam Schefter said. Adam Schefter said, I think it
was on the Pat McAfee show starring AJ Hawk, and
Adam Schefter said, well, you know, uh yeah, there's a
there's a chance that one of these guys could be
in TV next year, that they could just walk in,
that the loser could walk in and say, you know what,
I think it's time. Yeah, there's a chance that could
happen every year. Okay, if they decided they want it out,
(29:00):
there's a chance they could do that at any time. Like,
I don't know if you're aware of that. I love
every network. Every network would be hello, is this the
Tomlin residence? Hello?
Speaker 1 (29:10):
Is John Harbaugh in there? We're knocking down your door, Like,
this guy is made for TV. I love all the
made for TV guys that aren't made for TV, you know, like,
let's just put them in the booth now. I don't know,
we signed him to a five year deal. Let's just
get rid of them. Like that's remember they.
Speaker 2 (29:26):
Put Bruce Arians in the booth. They're like, hey, Bruce,
you can't curse. Oh all right, see you guys.
Speaker 1 (29:31):
Bruce Arians also sounded like Bob Ross, like you had
the painting voice. Like if you actually listen to Bruce Arians.
I don't know if there's a way we could. I
highly doubt in our system we have Bruce Arians, but
if we do, I always felt like he sounded like
Bob Ross. But yeah, it's a ba. When he's done,
he's straight to the boat.
Speaker 2 (29:48):
Yeah that personality. Yeah, how about that mouth? Yeah, that
kind of goes part of it.
Speaker 1 (29:53):
Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. The one thing with
the Ravens that I wondered because I still don't think
that John harb I was going anywhere. But did you
find it funny that over the last couple of weeks,
all of a sudden these stories kind of started to
pop out. Oh, y, guess what, John Harbaugh's not not
listening to him? Blah blah blah. And then all of
a sudden, Baltimore Sun column Lamar sleeps in meetings. Yeah,
(30:15):
Mike Preston, practice practice is PM only no am. Because
Lamar is still sleeping and he's up playing video, yes,
up late last night. Now, there may be concerns and
there may be something going on there that to me
seemed contrived at the time. So when you're talking about
(30:35):
is there something going on? Could there be something going on?
I thought that there there was more to that. How
are you going to fire Mike Tomlin or have Mike
Tomlin move on after this year when it hasn't happened
in the previous four years, you know, Like I just
I don't know, like why now is the time? Like
we're Enough's enough. I don't think it's a James Franklin
(30:55):
sort of thing at all. I think that there's way
more equity that Tomlin has with this than you would
have in that college football situation. But it's when you're
talking about I just don't think that this is a
loser goes home and ends up next to you know,
Nate Burlison on the NFL CBS.
Speaker 2 (31:12):
I'm with you, and I also think the there is
more too, I guess. I guess there's more validity I
would buy into to there being problems in Baltimore than
in Pittsburgh, because man, like there was way too many
details given in that article by Mike Preston, and everybody
that I've talked to is like, no, Mike Preston's pretty connected,
(31:34):
Like he's like, he's not going to just pick that up,
like that came from somewhere, and it's well, he's up
playing video games and he's you know, he needs to
he needs to, you know, be training at the facility
and he needs to he needs to be there and
not show up for one day at camp and then
leave because he's got an illness. Like I think yesterday
was the first Wednesday Lamar Jackson had practiced in like
(31:54):
two months. It had either been an illness or like
he's always got the flu. There's always some like there's
always remember that one random Monday night game where he's
still trying to tell everybody, Oh, no, I didn't have
to use the bathroom, Like dude, you almost craft your
pants in the middle of a game, Like I why
else were you there? Like like what you had to
go back and check your phone? Like what do you
(32:16):
mean you left the middle of a Monday night game
and ran to the bathroom for what other reason? It
just there's there's.
Speaker 1 (32:25):
Something there, yeah, absolutely, and it's it's it may have
built up over these couple of years. It's not just
a vet day off like certain vets get day off,
you know, days off. Tom Brady, all right, we don't
need you on a Wednesday when you've missed half the
season and you're trying to get back in. He's going
to do a limit walk through. Yeah, Like, I'm just
(32:46):
not there yet. We're not at that point.
Speaker 2 (32:48):
That's why I look at it. I go, that's the
one that is the more intriguing of the two. Pittsburgh.
This is just what Pittsburgh is, Like, it just it's
what they've been as you as you said, it's what
they've been for a long time. Now, Like if you
were going to do it this year, why not the
year before the year before that. Nothing has really changed
in Baltimore. It just feels like that stuff gets out
(33:08):
there because somebody wants it out there. Yeah, and and
now you get to see, like how does this play out?
I mean, you know, apparently he's it looks like he's
gonna play Sunday night. So if he comes out Sunday
night and you know, he looks off or it looks
like there's more to that storyline than I think. You
know what ends up happening with Pittsburgh, because I think
(33:29):
we know how this is gonna go with Pittsburgh. If
they win, they're going to be out in the first round,
and if they don't win, they're just gonna roll it
back next year. And who knows if Rogers comes back.
Speaker 1 (33:38):
Well, I'll tell you this much. With that crappy schedule
at one Eastern and four to twenty five Eastern, I'm
gonna be way all for Sunday nights.
Speaker 2 (33:50):
Talk about the challenge, Yes, yes, yes, challenge scoring.
Speaker 1 (33:57):
Raymonds in a football game. Jackson's playing video games. Who
was he played?
Speaker 2 (34:06):
Was played? Who did the Uh?
Speaker 1 (34:08):
It's been fifteen years and the coach is the same.
Speaker 2 (34:13):
What was he?
Speaker 4 (34:14):
Who?
Speaker 6 (34:15):
I like that?
Speaker 2 (34:15):
Who did the Who did the Monday Night game? Years ago?
Was it?
Speaker 1 (34:19):
Uh?
Speaker 2 (34:20):
God? The country singer did the Monday Night game? Hank.
I remember thinking about that, like, man, that was from
my youth, Like that's what I grew that was Monday
night football. And then I heard the song like about
a year ago, awful, awful song. Holy Christ. That was
a bad song, but what I grew up with.
Speaker 1 (34:39):
Yeah, my road friends a hef a Monday night.
Speaker 2 (34:44):
Rocking Rando France.
Speaker 3 (34:46):
I was like, what is that?
Speaker 2 (34:48):
Like?
Speaker 4 (34:48):
Who wrote that?
Speaker 1 (34:49):
How did you get this thing start?
Speaker 2 (34:51):
Like if you if? He told me I wrote that sober.
I feel like you should be fired, Like you should
be fired immediately.
Speaker 1 (34:56):
But nonetheless, Saturday Live bit they did with Chris Farley
was great when basically it was just Hank Waimes Junior
had to do all the matchups, you know, so it's
like Bengals and the Dealers come in over tonight because
the whole other song was generic, but they had to
make it specific for each week. I think there's much
(35:18):
more production put into, you know, to this one.
Speaker 2 (35:21):
When no Dad books. Oh my gosh, it is the
Dan Patrick Show here on Fox Sports Radio. He's Dan
Byron Jonas Knox in for Dan and the guys coming
up next here though, we are going to talk about
some traditions. There are traditions and some of them make
no sense whatsoever, and they're yours right here on FSR.
Speaker 4 (35:41):
Fox Sports Radio has the best sports talk lineup in
the nation. Catch all of our shows at Foxsports Radio
dot com and within the iHeartRadio app. Search FSR to
listen live.
Speaker 1 (35:52):
You think we're kidding.
Speaker 2 (35:56):
Vikings Niners, who was it Randal cutting ever Steve Bono,
Oh my god, and they're just showing it. They're showing
fluawed Revez highlights.
Speaker 1 (36:09):
Running for some football. I didn't realize that the end
they had to put Lynn Swan, that they gave him
his own line, right, like they're like Lynn and the Crew.
I didn't real I just thought it was frigg Now, dame,
and now.
Speaker 2 (36:24):
Look at look at how far they've come. Al Michaels
is next to Kirk Kirk Street on Amazon Prime. It
seems to be thrilled at the endeavor. So there is
faud Revez as he's had warming up.
Speaker 1 (36:37):
Leo Lewis four catches last week against Tampa Bay, and.
Speaker 2 (36:41):
You know that's a uh it's a reunion here of sorts.
Roger Craig seeing his former team.
Speaker 1 (36:48):
Come on, man Vikings Niners had said some good games
in the past. It's been a while.
Speaker 2 (36:52):
Yeah, it's been a.
Speaker 1 (36:53):
While, but it is.
Speaker 2 (36:56):
That was, you know, tradition, man, back in the day.
It was. There's also a lot of New Year's traditions.
You got me, Dan, I know you said, my wife.
Speaker 1 (37:08):
Okay, she knew. Now listen, New Year's isn't the same
for everyone. Jonas and I are at our studios in
southern California, so it would be different if Dan and
the dan Nets were in there. On the East coast,
it's New Year's it's nine forty nine, like we were up.
It's six forty nine in the morning right now and
it's just pouring rain. But I was up at midnight
(37:29):
having to eat twelve grapes. No idea why. My wife
looked at She's like, you've got to eat your grapes
health and wealth or something about it. I got four
in She's like one for each month. I'm like, I'm
like at April, like I've got eight grapes left, and
I just want to go to bed. So last night
I downed twelve grapes. Now, granted it was about between
(37:51):
twelve oh two to twelve oh eight. Took me about
five minutes to down my twelve grapes. But that was
my New Year's tradition last night.
Speaker 2 (38:00):
Well, first of all, let's get to the important stuff here.
Purple or green?
Speaker 1 (38:03):
These were green? Oh so green? And I don't know
if that's for the Dalla dollar bill. That's what you know.
We're open in twenty twenty six, all right, Why no idea.
I think again, I think it's health and wealth like
it may be. I wanted to listen. I had a
hamper that was full, and my wife yesterday's like, give
(38:25):
me your launchum, worry about it. I'm like, I'm I
can do it on New Year's Day. You don't have
to worry about She's like, Nope, you don't do laundry
on New Year's Day?
Speaker 3 (38:33):
Do you know that?
Speaker 1 (38:35):
No clue, absolutely, no woe. She goes, yeah, don't do
laundry today, bad omen for the year. Do not do
laundry on New Year's Day. Really, So when you talk
about traditions, I don't know if these are traditions or
these just omens or what the deal is. But I've
had twelve grapes today and I know I'm not doing
laundry today. That's all that I know. In bringing in
twenty twenty six.
Speaker 2 (38:56):
Yeah, I didn't like look at it. I'll just be
honest with you because i've I've I told you this
on the phone earlier. If I had twelve grapes, I'm
ringing out my socks. They would run through me like
I stole something like that would.
Speaker 1 (39:08):
Be time out here and the dan Patrick Show an
early one.
Speaker 2 (39:11):
My god, yeah, do we still have that that com
rex Field tap. I'd be using it in the bathroom.
Speaker 1 (39:17):
It was CBS. They just cut you off, like Gery Danielson,
so you could go if you need it.
Speaker 2 (39:23):
Yeah, I just we have this weird tradition. I still
don't know how this started. I don't know why this started.
But growing up as a kid, you know, like you
don't realize that you do stuff as a family that's
weird until you see other families and you go, oh,
you guys don't do it like that. And I just
remember growing up and every New Year's Day, for some reason,
(39:46):
we would make our own sandwiches. I don't know why.
There would be like my mom would have turkey and
all this meat out there and bread and we'd have
all like all these trimmings'd be like, all right, let's
make your own sandwich day. And we just kind of
accepted it, like charcuterie like like like like you work
at Jersey Mics go from and I don't, yeah, like
(40:07):
you just and it's all on you know, because we
bring out the nice stuff paper plates, so it's all
on paper plates. And there'd be like some chips and
pretzels and all this, and I just remember getting older and.
Speaker 4 (40:18):
Being like.
Speaker 2 (40:20):
Why who start? Like where where did this start? And
here's the thing, I still do it. I'm going to
do it later on. I want to go to the deli,
get meat, get bread that I'm never going to finish,
and then I'm going to bring it home and do
sit And I don't know why.
Speaker 1 (40:36):
I love when you're probably nineteen, you're with your buddies
and you're like, I'm not going to eat. I'll just
have sandwiches at your place and they're like, what what
do you like? You walk in? All right, let's load.
I don't.
Speaker 2 (40:50):
I have no idea where it started, white start. But
I remember telling my wife, like when we first got married,
and I was like, all right, you know tomorrow is
New Year's Days. She goes, yeah, because they're bird days
a day after and she's probably thinking. I'm like, oh, yeah,
it's a big lead into your birthday. And I'm like,
nake your own sandwich.
Speaker 1 (41:06):
Is he goes?
Speaker 3 (41:07):
What?
Speaker 2 (41:08):
He goes? What I said, Yeah, that's just what we
did growing up. God No, literally, to this day, it
doesn't make any sense. There's nothing like, it makes no sense. Whatsoever, Babe,
it's mios, myos. Make your own sandwiches. I don't don't,
I don't get but I'm still gonna do it like
I'm going to do it. And you know what, next
(41:29):
New Year's you're gonna have twelve more grapes. So you
got that to look forward to.
Speaker 1 (41:33):
I can't wait. It's by the way, there will be
zero grapes eating in the other three hundred and sixty
four days of this year. Yes, I'm not necessarily a
great guy. Love grapegum, love grape candy, grapes. You know,
twelve of them at twelve of them at twelve oh
two in the morning when you have to get up.
(41:55):
That's gonna do it for you.
Speaker 2 (41:56):
Okay, So great popsicles, big fan.
Speaker 1 (41:58):
Yeah, okay, thumbs up, rape soda that's the iffy one. Okay. Yeah.
Speaker 2 (42:02):
Because here's now, this is why it's interesting, because you
had green grapes, and so the grape treats that you
like to have are the purple ones.
Speaker 1 (42:10):
Yes, correct, So she really went off speed. Yeah, totally.
Speaker 2 (42:14):
Grapes for twelve months.
Speaker 1 (42:16):
Yeah, yeah, I wanted to throw up by September, Patrick,
I gotta do October November December yet, Are you kidding me?
Speaker 2 (42:26):
But I mean, you know, we do have a bunch
of football today, so there is that. Yeah, at least
that'll make us feel better about, you know, some of
the other options that are out there.
Speaker 1 (42:33):
We got football Little T Tech in Oregon to start
thinking Orange Bowl and so much more.
Speaker 2 (42:38):
You know what's great about that is I picked Texas
Tech to go to the final in our college football
playoff rucket, so mine could be busted by that man.
There is a potential of that.
Speaker 1 (42:50):
Well I did not. I have Oregon and Oregon is
wearing their black uniforms today.
Speaker 2 (42:56):
What what.
Speaker 1 (43:00):
Really? Yeah, Texas Tech, what color are you black? Wow?
Speaker 2 (43:05):
That's uh, that's insulting.
