Speaker 1 (00:00):
Kurna and good morning to Mike McRoberts.
Speaker 2 (00:04):
Lovely to with you guys and treading really, you know,
on the last day of my news Hub career. We've
had so many good chats over the year.
Speaker 3 (00:12):
Love oh, we love talking to you and what a
wonderful career.
Speaker 2 (00:15):
You know.
Speaker 3 (00:15):
Have you looked back on it, because was it two
thousand and five did you start reading the news on
news hubber You're obviously a reporter before that on TV
one and on TV three. Was that how long you've
been reading the news for?
Speaker 2 (00:25):
Yeah? Yeah, so this is my twentieth year doing six o'clock.
I was looking forward to the gold Watch, but there
you go.
Speaker 3 (00:33):
But there was the station. You know, we've all worked there,
you know, a station that was the underdog station. You know,
everyone seemed to like work hard, take some resks, maybe
being the rules occasionally. It sort of had that sort
of work ethic and environment for a while.
Speaker 2 (00:45):
Yeah. I think that was kind of the TV three
culture and one that I really loved. And you flourished
in the too. Ben. It's incredible and you think, you know,
and I've kind of my mindset this week is it
has been a bit torturous over the last four months.
My mindset this week has been very much about celebrating
what we achieved and been walking out, you know, feeling
really good about what we've done.
Speaker 4 (01:06):
Well. I mean, imagine you looking back on your career.
You have been to you know, the war torn zones
of the world, probably some of the greatest journalism this
country will see.
Speaker 3 (01:17):
And I was reading to also in typical TV three
fashion as well, without insurance, sometimes without life insurance.
Speaker 2 (01:24):
So typical of TV that was. That was back in
the day when you know, when I trusted the CEO,
it's like it's done now time I can tell you.
Speaker 3 (01:39):
Yeah, so what you know, like we'll look after your
family if anything happens, is what they say to you.
Speaker 2 (01:43):
Yeah, it was a good intentive to get back. Yeah, yeah,
it was.
Speaker 5 (01:48):
I mean it.
Speaker 2 (01:48):
Basically just took out a massive chunk of the cost
and meant that I have the opportunity to go and
tell those stories. But I mean, looking back at now,
what were you thinking.
Speaker 5 (01:57):
Yeah, so stand out of the twenty years, what as
in your mind as your greatest career moment have to be.
Speaker 2 (02:06):
Done with the stars.
Speaker 3 (02:10):
We saw another side of you, that's you know that
I definitely enjoyed it. Just about no life insurance on
that one.
Speaker 2 (02:19):
Either said, there's so many highlights. Obviously going to war
zones and going to big natural disasters around the world,
being the only New Zealand journalists fair incredible highlights. But
I think probably the thing that the most of those
teams you work in, you know, whether it's big events
like Olympics or Commonwealth Games, you know, we had such
(02:40):
amazing teamwork and it's taken a lot of teamwork over
these these past few months to get the news to
ear EVERYNTE and I just want to it's amazing professionalism
of my colleagues to do that. It's quite humbling, and
tonight we get it to do it for the last time.
And you know, I don't know what I'm going to
say at the end, it'll come.
Speaker 5 (03:01):
I don't know if this would soften the blow at all,
But I know you're going to be leaving free studios,
but you won't be leaving our memories. Like I will
always remember you for so many events and like Dance
with the Stars, you are part of our lives and
we won't forget it.
Speaker 2 (03:17):
I think you brought that back quite well big and
started us being a little bit creepy.
Speaker 5 (03:23):
I didn't want to start with dancing.
Speaker 4 (03:24):
With s welled to what are you doing? We allowed
to ask that, Mike.
Speaker 1 (03:29):
Oh you can.
Speaker 2 (03:29):
Yeah, I've been very lucky. Actually, I've got a role
with the NBR National Business Reviews, so it's it's like
a proper job. I have to wear a suit, to
wear a suit anyway, done that for a while. I've
created a role for me which is tell Marty editors,
so I'll be doing stories on the Marty economy and
that kind of thing. So it's very exciting and I
feel very lucky to have.
Speaker 1 (03:51):
Oh listen mate, well, thank you for everything that you
and the team have done over over the decades that
three News and news Hub has has been in our lives.
Speaker 2 (04:01):
Thank you, and thank you for you guys too. You
have been such massive supporters and you know, probably the
weirdest and strangest things I've done on television associated with you.
Speaker 3 (04:11):
Well, yeah, and you said that. You know when we
when our TV show John and Being finished up, you
got up and it wasn't on screen, it wasn't for
the TV. You got up in front of everyone and
you came along to the last show firstly, and then
you said a wonderfu wonderful, lovely, beautiful words, So thank
you so much for that. That meant a huge amount
to us.
Speaker 2 (04:28):
Great well, obviously the address for tonight.
Speaker 3 (04:30):
And probably won't mean the same coming for John. And
if we do it, we're like you guys, We've just
got a few words. It doesn't quite come with the
same grabbing us.
Speaker 4 (04:41):
We don't have the same manner.
Speaker 1 (04:42):
I'm sorry, Mike, listen, good luck with the new job.
Speaker 4 (04:47):
Hopefully I'm there.
Speaker 1 (04:48):
Say well, we'll see each other around and thanks once again,
and and go to thank you my friends.
