Speaker 1 (00:00):
This Gentleman Being podcast. Hey, that's us brought to you
by Hello Fresh the Experts and Tastes that kiwis love.
All right, now, that's cross Live to our New York correspondent,
American correspondent Nicole from New York. Nicole in New York.
It's been an age. How are you.
Speaker 2 (00:16):
I'm doing okay. I missed you guys. I didn't realize
it was going to but I did.
Speaker 3 (00:20):
Yeah, you're looking ten years younger.
Speaker 2 (00:22):
Oh, thank you so very much. You guys look great.
Speaker 1 (00:24):
You were away too, right, Yeah, I'll tell you what
I was over your You're part of the world. I
went to New York with the family, went to Long Island,
where we've got family, and then went into the city.
The city in New York as an amazing place. I mean,
you know, it's just full on, so many people, people everywhere,
cars horns, people trying to get money off you.
Speaker 2 (00:42):
I mean, you were here and you didn't even call me.
Speaker 3 (00:44):
We did you know what before he left? You should
contact in a col And he's like, I don't know,
we've only just met her. Does she want me to
bring up to her house?
Speaker 4 (00:52):
I am a million percent would have met you for
a drink, sh a round a little bit, come on
right next time.
Speaker 1 (00:57):
But next time I was amazing. I feel bad though,
you know, everyone comes up to you and wants to
get your money off. Yeah, there's people in costumes. There's
people with Gucci baggs. I'm pretty sure they're not Gucci bags,
but they're selling them very much cheap.
Speaker 2 (01:07):
They are not.
Speaker 4 (01:08):
None of them are never ever ever Like I used
to think maybe a few of them like fell off
the back of a truck, but like they are all faked,
but they're like amazing figs.
Speaker 1 (01:16):
I love.
Speaker 3 (01:16):
Just googled a Gucci actually do have a line of
street salespeople.
Speaker 1 (01:20):
Yeah, they sell it on blankets that they can pick
up quite quickly as well and move somewhere else.
Speaker 4 (01:26):
It is crazy, though, I mean they have gotten like
if you go down to Chinatown and stuff some of
the designer stuff, they have gotten so close that it
really is hard to tell.
Speaker 2 (01:35):
And I mean like I'm not above that, no, exactly,
it's way cheaper. At least someone's gonna speak to it
then then.
Speaker 4 (01:41):
But also you need to learn when you're in New York,
you look straight and if somebody approaches you, you put
your hand up and say I'm sorry, I have no time,
or you put your cell phone to your ear and
go I'm on a call.
Speaker 2 (01:53):
You do not let people come to you.
Speaker 1 (01:54):
Obviously, big news over the politics, the race for the
White House. Joe by As finally decided it's too much
for him. He's gonna have a nap. I don't know.
Speaker 2 (02:03):
I don't know what you're talking about. The first time
hearing of.
Speaker 4 (02:07):
Yeah, you know, the thing is, I think it needed
to happen. I think that he's a good person. He
did the best that he could. But a lot of
people sort of likened this whole thing too, when your
grandpa gets older and it's like, Grandpa, you should not
be driving anymore kind of thing. Like he did a
lot of amazing things. Whether you love him or hate him,
he did a lot of amazing things. But it was
time and that's why people retire. Right, you're old, you
(02:28):
should go and enjoy and sail off into the sunset.
Speaker 5 (02:31):
But he wasn't driving, he wasn't right, but he was
in control.
Speaker 4 (02:35):
Right, Yeah, yeah, I mean honestly, like just I know
that we shouldn't be laughing about this, but like the
memes alone that came out of that debate, like him
just looking so freaking confused.
Speaker 3 (02:45):
The thing that was for me I felt really bad
is after the debate there was footage of him and
his lovely wife Jill, and Jill had him on stage
and she was like he didn't need too well the quizz.
Speaker 4 (02:59):
I wonder if she was like a little power hungry
and like she wanted him to say, like, let's do this.
Speaker 2 (03:03):
You still got it in you. He's still got a
little bit of gas.
Speaker 1 (03:06):
I was traveling through the airport and you know how
when you go on your Wi Fi and other people's
WiFi pops up. I'm gonna swear here, we're gonna have
the beat machine. Someone's WiFi was fight No.
Speaker 4 (03:17):
I mean I couldn't get off it does It is
crazy because depending on where you are in the country,
like we are in New York and we drove all
the way down to North Carolina, so as you enter
the South, I saw flags with Trump on him dressed
as Rambo.
Speaker 2 (03:31):
Like people feel very strongly about Yeah.
Speaker 4 (03:35):
At the moment that the attempted assassination happened, my husband
looked at me.
Speaker 2 (03:39):
He was like, that's it, Like he won, Like and
the fact that.
Speaker 4 (03:42):
He knew that it grazed and didn't get him, and
he was like like.
Speaker 3 (03:46):
Just the USA chant off the back of it.
Speaker 1 (03:48):
I was, this is this.
Speaker 2 (03:50):
Is making Yeah, it was crazy.
Speaker 1 (03:52):
It really was great.
Speaker 3 (03:52):
And so Kamala Karma, Karmala Mamala. You think she's gonna mower?
And now it feels like the support is suede crazy.
Speaker 4 (04:00):
I mean like, honestly, there's people like starting in this
country and we just like they just raised fifty million
dollars for her in one day, which is pretty insane living.
I mean, it's historic, right, this has never happened when
it's never stepped down like this. Obviously this would be
the first woman president for US.
Speaker 5 (04:14):
I don't know.
Speaker 2 (04:15):
I think you's gonnaite gonna give him run for his money?
Speaker 1 (04:16):
Can I can I ask you a question because the
obviously you're over there in America. I just I just
came back and I struggled to say my name. Now,
how should I be saying my name? Every time I'd
order a hot drink or somewhere you know, food and
they have to call out my name? I would say
beIN and my New Zealand accent, and I got pen
p I in p e in I got yeh beer
if I okay?
Speaker 2 (04:37):
Ben?
Speaker 4 (04:38):
Yeah, yes it's Ben. So what you're saying is b
I n Ben. That's just your accent. But guess what
if you're at any Starbucks, no one's getting your name right.
Speaker 2 (04:47):
It could be they mess up all of our names.
Speaker 1 (04:49):
Because I wondered if I was doing something wrong, if
I needed to you.
Speaker 2 (04:52):
Know, no, it's not.
Speaker 3 (04:54):
When you tell someone your name, you can tell they
don't care what your name is anyway on day to day.
Speaker 5 (04:59):
So so if we said jotto, what does it sound
like we're saying to you John?
Speaker 3 (05:04):
No?
Speaker 2 (05:04):
John, know that that sounds that sounds right.
Speaker 3 (05:07):
I get a lot of over there from the Hispanic community. Hono, Yeah,
they call me Hono.
Speaker 2 (05:13):
Actually that's bitter. Yeah, the gymisa sound.
Speaker 4 (05:16):
But like also, you guys just see different things like
when my producer Ben from Australia says like like do
you have any like aluminium foil?
Speaker 2 (05:22):
I'm like, what the frig is that? But that's not
what is aluminium? I think it's just you know.
Speaker 1 (05:27):
Oh yeah, can I say? Can I say you guys
you love the Olympics, Like every shop you would go
to you would be able to get USA merchandise for
the Olympics like everywhere.
Speaker 4 (05:36):
Yeah, I mean literally like my Amazon it might as
well before the July Like they are literally just like
support your country and people do you want to support?
And people, especially in New York City, people get excited.
So there's certain events like the bars will be packed
and you need your American flag stuff and you need
all your USB stuff. So yeah, they know how to
take advantage of any way.
Speaker 5 (05:55):
Snoop Dogg is as the official one of the official
torch bearers house.
Speaker 4 (06:00):
He cocked out with you guys, there's nothing better than that.
Speaker 2 (06:03):
There's nothing better.
Speaker 4 (06:04):
The last time I interviewed him, it was on Zoom
and he smoked an entire blunt while I interviewed him,
Like he I'd ask him a question, we'd be talking
and he'd take a second and a couple of puffs
and then he would answer. And I'm assuming he's going
to do the same wall.
Speaker 1 (06:20):
Joint with the torch.
Speaker 5 (06:22):
It would be it's the beast slider in the world, right, Yeah,
I mean he's just so great and he's he really
is so sweet, and he knows what he's doing, like
he knows like his stick.
Speaker 4 (06:33):
He knows that people want him to do the snoop stuff,
and his commentating was just so popular when he did
it last time, and it's like he's like the everyman man, right,
so when he talks, it's like kind of like what
we're thinking when we're watching some of these events.
Speaker 2 (06:43):
So I think it's really fun.
Speaker 3 (06:44):
So it feels like he's done a co lab with
the olympos. Is he doing commentary over the year too.
Speaker 4 (06:49):
I believe he's going to be doing some commentary with
a bunch of others. I mean he did it with
I think Heart the last time, which was epic. Oh,
it was legendary.
Speaker 1 (06:57):
It's kind a lot we have out here. We have
the alternate commentary. I think it was kind of like
that Heart would kind of provide funny commentary of so
you had an option and it was very hilarious. Some
of the stuff we saw was very, very funny.
Speaker 3 (07:08):
Even at the super Bowl. So before his halftime performance
at the super Bowl, there was cell phone footage of
him smoking weed before the performance start half time?
Speaker 2 (07:15):
Is he even not Heah? No, I'm pretty sure he
wakes up.
Speaker 4 (07:18):
He rolls over with either a joint, a blonde or
a bong in his face. I mean, I just think
that that's how he lives his life, and you do
you Bill, Look if that.
Speaker 2 (07:26):
Works for you, It's just part of who he is.
It's high functioning, well high look at this totally totally.
Speaker 3 (07:32):
I'm just googled one hundred and fifty one hundred and
fifty joints a day.
Speaker 2 (07:36):
Yeah, it's very expensive. Well, you have the money, So
he's okay.
Speaker 3 (07:41):
If he comes into your studio, are you like, sorry,
snoop dog, you can't smoke in hear or what hell's
it rolled out? No?
Speaker 4 (07:47):
So the last time he came up to the studio,
I mean he walked in, we all.
Speaker 2 (07:51):
Got a contact high.
Speaker 4 (07:52):
Obviously, they don't let him smoke in our studio. But
he rolls up and when our talent like readers come,
they open the door or to the car service that
has brought him, and it's literally.
Speaker 2 (08:02):
Like a poof of smoke coming out. He comes up.
Speaker 4 (08:05):
They put in the green room. They allow him to
smoke pot in the green room, but don't tell anybody
I told you that. And then he comes so, yeah,
he needs another quick one before he comes into this,
but not in our studio.
Speaker 1 (08:14):
In New York, it's legal right, there was there were
stores over there was weed stores. But the people selling
it outside with like the rolled up now they didn't
seem like official people. But the cops, lots of cops everywhere.
They were just like walk past.
Speaker 4 (08:26):
Yeah, don't do that, don't touch the people off the
of the street. But there are there's tons of dispensaries.
There's tons of little stores literally like Wanner Show every block.
And yes it is now legal, so I you really
can't walk down the street without smelling it. And I
think it's the best. It's like a stupid thing to
be illegal. It's not that there's so many things that
are hurting that people. That is the last thing that
is hurting people.
Speaker 1 (08:44):
And I'll meet you to these guys. So you guys
love a revolving door in New York, jeez, you love
you love every show. Yeah, I ran into the one
at Sephora. I didn't realize it was glass around the
outside of it, and I was like, you gotta go quick, kids,
and I ran straight you no glass.
Speaker 4 (08:59):
One of my biggest pet peeves is when I'm I'm
going through one, because we have them up a serious XM.
When I'm going through and I'm coming out. Just wait,
just wait a second. You don't have to get right
into the one that I just came out of it.
And also if I get in one and you think there's.
Speaker 2 (09:12):
Room, that's an unspoken rule each segment.
Speaker 1 (09:15):
One person didn't know that.
Speaker 2 (09:17):
Thank you, that turns into your bubble. Okay, how did
you deal with an How did you do an escalator?
Speaker 4 (09:24):
Because there's very very specific rules in New York City
with an escalator there, or like when you're walking, like
there's a different lanes, like there's a standing lean on
the escalator, and then there's.
Speaker 1 (09:32):
A walking bad because we drive on obviously the other
side of the road over here, so this is where
I hang and that's no. It's like, no, that's line,
get the hell out of my way.
Speaker 2 (09:43):
So do you hate it?
Speaker 5 (09:44):
Like when people going over to New York and they're like, hey,
Yea'm walking.
Speaker 4 (09:49):
Yeah, yes, I hate it a lot, hate it a lot.
I just feel like, just don't like, like, listen, we
love tourists and helps keep this whole city going, but
like I just feel like, try to be be a tourist,
but be as us taurus as you can't.
Speaker 3 (10:01):
Does no one over there say hey, I'm walking here.
Speaker 2 (10:05):
No, not unless they're trying to get like, like punched
in the face.
Speaker 4 (10:11):
Don't do don't do a New York accent to a
New Yorker unless it's really so.
Speaker 3 (10:15):
Maybe the Italians aren't saying mama me or all the
time as well, mom me.
Speaker 2 (10:23):
Okay, this is very really we've got rid of some
stereotypes today.
Speaker 1 (10:28):
That's great. How are you, lovely?
Speaker 2 (10:29):
Catching up? You getting the cold?
Speaker 3 (10:30):
Well?
Speaker 1 (10:30):
That was speaking next week.
Speaker 2 (10:32):
Okay, take care of guys.
