Speaker 1 (00:01):
With the John and Ben Podcast. Cheers to Dilma making
the world a bitter tea.
Speaker 2 (00:06):
No John O today, Megan, But you're enjoying that song.
Speaker 3 (00:09):
I've never noticed at the end there does Zayne say,
go give love to your body?
Speaker 2 (00:13):
It does sound like that, right.
Speaker 3 (00:15):
I love that song and I've heard it many times
and I've never noticed it before, go give love to
your bart Okay, Now.
Speaker 2 (00:21):
Big month, a National Panini Month. Today. It feels like
we have a month or a day for everything. And
I mean panini's are fine. I don't know if I
need a whole month. I don't is not just a day. Yeah,
it feels like it's I felt again. It feels like
the people that make paninis are like, hey, let's get
this to become a thing. Yeah, and National Panini Monk
been around since nineteen sixties, which doesn't probably surprise you
(00:42):
as well.
Speaker 3 (00:43):
And then they got a whole priest named after them.
You got like an actual panini priest.
Speaker 2 (00:47):
Oh yeah, you worked at a cafe. Do you make
many paninis?
Speaker 3 (00:50):
We did actually have a panini.
Speaker 2 (00:53):
My mom loves the pan It feels like, I don't
want to stereotype the boomers, but a little bit a
bowl latte and a panini and my mam single shot
bowl larte too, which seems like a milky coffee. Exactly.
Don't want my coffee too strong. But I'll have a
huge bowl of it and then a panini. And that's
what she was. She'll love it.
Speaker 1 (01:10):
You know.
Speaker 3 (01:11):
I always love when your parents are like, I need
a big one today. I'm gonna get like a single
shot whole bowl. Like, no, that's not as much. It's
just a soupery coffee.
Speaker 2 (01:21):
Yeah, exactly. Speaking of all things, Toasted Sandwiches are trying
to do a tie and they're doing quite work related. Yeah,
the Great New Zealand Toasty Takeover. They do that every year.
It's just been announced. The winner, a little cafe just
out of has taking it out the Okny Fools store.
Looks really good. Now this is that the fig Yeah,
(01:42):
figs in it. Yeah, it's got bacon, walnuts, rocket sliced figs,
Swiss cheese, pickles, blue cheese, and chili honey. Sounds good.
Speaker 3 (01:51):
Oh my god, that sounds amazing.
Speaker 1 (01:53):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (01:53):
So that's the winner of this year's Toasty Takeover. Because
I know it's quite you go to places and the
need to vote for this. It's it's quite a big.
Speaker 3 (01:58):
Deal, right, yeah, Like is that it's hard to recreate?
I want to just make it. Can't go past like
a cream corn cheese toasted.
Speaker 2 (02:08):
That yeh yeah, or like it just a ham and
cheese and a little bit of relish.
Speaker 3 (02:12):
I'm not gonna lie. I had a spaghetti toasty recently.
Speaker 2 (02:14):
Oh that's good. That's an old spy. That's a do
you hate them spaghetti first?
Speaker 4 (02:19):
Yeah?
Speaker 3 (02:20):
Yeah, yeah, of course.
Speaker 2 (02:21):
Hey, something weird that's happening at home, and I just
want to mention it briefly. Is I don't know, if
you know, we've got like Netflix or Disney Plus or
whatever streaming account you've got. You can sign up to
your own little you get your own little profile within
you know. It's I've got my account. But then I've
got my account, and then my daughter's got accounts, and
the other daughter and my wife and stuff like that.
So my daughters will update the names on the account
(02:43):
and profile pictures, which is nice. But they've updated mine
to daddy, which is fine. I'm with their father. But
it's weird now because I get these emails from Netflix,
go hey daddy, Hey daddy, there's a movie you might like,
And I'm like, this is you know, they email because
there's my accounts, So I'm getting multiple things from Netflix
just calling me, hey, daddy, there's another show you might enjoy.
(03:05):
I'm starting to get a little creeped up by Netflix.
Speaker 3 (03:09):
It sounds very seducive this single time.
Speaker 2 (03:14):
Watch a movie with me? What's this movie that you
think about life as well? So yeah, so I think
I might have to change the name on that one.
Not soking on Netflix calling me daddy.
Speaker 1 (03:24):
The hits that Jona wan Ben podcast to.
Speaker 2 (03:26):
Black Lively has been in the news quite a lot recently,
obviously married to Ryan Reynolds, been in big, big movies
over the years, Gossip Girl as well, and a big
movie that's getting a lot of attention for a whole
lot of stuff going on behind the scenes. But we
don't want to focus on that right now.
Speaker 3 (03:41):
Eddie's with Us is the movie, which is really it's
a really good movie, and the moment's is.
Speaker 2 (03:47):
For book, But we want to focus on something else.
And I'm not bringing this up to try and cancel
Black Lively. You are, I was just was. I was
astounded by the amount of money her pair of jeans
that she wore the other night to the premiere. Cost Now,
this is to be fair, she probably didn't pay for these.
She probably got these gifted or worn. She probably wore
them briefly and then had to hand them back. But
(04:09):
they were okay. Valentino means something to you, doesn't mean yeah.
Speaker 3 (04:12):
Yeah Valentino Italian fashion.
Speaker 2 (04:15):
How Yeah, So nineteen thousand dollars a pair of jeans
that she was wearing. Now that's American dollars, which is
probably like four hundred and fifty thousand New Zealand dollars
or something.
Speaker 3 (04:25):
You're sure it wasn't one thousand, nine hundred to this
nineteen thousand.
Speaker 2 (04:29):
I don't know how reputable singing INA's at the website,
but they're saying nineteen thousand dollars.
Speaker 3 (04:33):
I've looked up a picture of these jeans. Are they
the ones that I have flowers on them? They're like
fully cut out.
Speaker 2 (04:39):
They've got cut out, yeah, cut out things throughout it,
din and pants, they've got thigh to heal cutouts, hibiscus
shaped embroidery on.
Speaker 3 (04:47):
Their flowers, because flowers is a thing with that movie.
But the type of jeans that if you wore them
to like Christmas, your pearents and your grandparents are going
to be like, oh what happened to your jeans?
Speaker 2 (04:57):
I called up on the Waship Machine FIXT there's the rest. Yeah,
that kind of thing. It's really hard now the older
you get to resist saying that, oh no, you can't
do that, can't do that.
Speaker 3 (05:08):
They are pretty, But who and God's Earth is paying
nineteen thousand dollars for a pair of jeans? Even if
you're rich, even if you've got how can you justify
walking around at a peer of nineteen thousand dollars jeans?
Speaker 2 (05:22):
The Fedora from Indiana Jones. I was reading that earlier
in the week. That's someone bought that for a million dollars.
Speaker 1 (05:29):
God.
Speaker 2 (05:29):
The iconic for Dora is worn by Harrison Ford. I mean,
that's a lot of money and it's you know, but
you got to Helston Brothers and get one for probably thirty.
It hasn't been warned by Harrison Ford.
Speaker 3 (05:39):
But maybe you could go and meet him in the
street pop it honestly real quick.
Speaker 2 (05:43):
By Harrison Ford. So what we want to know this morning?
And what if you splashed out on now? Obviously no
one's paying a million dollars for for doorra from from
Indiana Joe.
Speaker 3 (05:52):
Not anyone I know for sure.
Speaker 2 (05:54):
No, But what if you're splashed out on and you know,
if you can afford it, and you can do it
now and again, it's nice to treat yourself to something,
you know, big occasions, special moments, things like that.
Speaker 3 (06:03):
Not anytime recently, I think since I've had kids, have
stopped splashing out on myself. But I used to Shoes
was my.
Speaker 2 (06:09):
Thing, that was your thing.
Speaker 3 (06:10):
Shoes, Yeah, you want me to No.
Speaker 2 (06:14):
Just describe one pier I have.
Speaker 3 (06:16):
I have one pier. It's Christian Dull that I bought
a long time ago, and I splashed out on those.
And to be honest, I never wear them.
Speaker 2 (06:25):
Oh really, I'm scared.
Speaker 3 (06:27):
I'm too scared to wear them. That's get weirt or something.
Speaker 2 (06:30):
My wife had, you know, a big birthday while back,
and she she got, you know, a handbag like a
Deadly Ponies handbag, which is not actually made out of ponies.
I've discovered it's not. It's not ponies. Prayer Paris to
this and she protects. I mean, it's you know, it's
expensive handbag and it won't touch you're not allowed to touch
the ground. It's like the florist lava with that, I
(06:50):
have to hold it and stuff. And she's got a
little handbag hook that puts on the table. You're good, good.
I kind of dragged it on the cup just a
little bit. Just don't tell her that.
Speaker 3 (07:00):
The thing if you buy something like that, you use
it every day, but you don't want to put it anywhere. Yeah, like,
don't touch it, don't what's the point? Mean kind of wonder.
Speaker 2 (07:07):
That's like we go to the movie sometimes I have
it on my lap. I'm watching The Last of Us
with that with a handbag. So we want to know
this morning under the hats four four eight seven, what
did you splash out on? You know, I guess you
know times are tough right now and maybe you're not
doing it right now, But what did you splash out on?
It might be a n item, something from a hobby.
Speaker 3 (07:26):
Yeah, and your partner's like, what are you doing?
Speaker 5 (07:29):
The weirder the.
Speaker 1 (07:29):
Better, even the hits that jonaan Ben podcast, I want
to know the thing.
Speaker 2 (07:33):
You've splashed out on the most. And you were saying
post Malone, great song there he splashed out on something
kind of nerdy and I like it.
Speaker 3 (07:41):
I listened to a podcast recently. He's a big Lord
of the Rings fan, and he splashed out on a card.
Speaker 6 (07:47):
I bought the load of the Rings Magic two million dollars.
Speaker 3 (07:52):
Two million dollars, and he doesn't regret it. It is
like framed and everything that's got a.
Speaker 2 (07:57):
Post Malone's probably got. You know, I don't think he's
worried too much about the living crisis at the moment,
is he?
Speaker 3 (08:01):
He's got a little piece of cardboard that probably costs
more than most people's houses.
Speaker 2 (08:08):
Wow, when you think of it like that. Yeah, so
I want to know. I one hundred the hats so
forth for eight seven? What's the thing that you splashed
out on the most?
Speaker 1 (08:15):
We got?
Speaker 2 (08:15):
Ape? School's a great calls coming through or not? One
hundred heads?
Speaker 3 (08:18):
Good morning Delsa? What did you splash out on? Delta?
Speaker 4 (08:24):
Oh?
Speaker 2 (08:25):
Hey, hey, hey, good morning. Want did you splash out on?
Speaker 4 (08:28):
I bring an email?
Speaker 2 (08:32):
It's all good.
Speaker 7 (08:33):
I have a big birthday coming up this November. Yeah,
being a twenty first and you know, speak at all
I could. I'm really crafty, so I could have actually
made my own invites for maybe ten dollars. But I
think I spent over one hundred on two things to
(08:53):
put together as invites for maybe ten to fifteen people.
Speaker 2 (08:59):
Dollars a bite. Are they nice looking at they look good?
Speaker 7 (09:04):
Yeah they are, They're really nice. They're actually laser cut
which I had done. Was I could have done with
a cardboard cutter and an art.
Speaker 2 (09:10):
Matt well hate no anyway, you save yourself the.
Speaker 3 (09:13):
Twenty first, it's right, splash out.
Speaker 2 (09:16):
Yeah, more time on the dance floor. Now you've got
more time for that. We're going to send you out
some hell pizza. Thank you for your call.
Speaker 7 (09:22):
Not a problem, Thank you, and.
Speaker 3 (09:24):
Ryan, good morning. What did you spend fourteen thousand dollars on?
Speaker 8 (09:30):
Yes, I was loving in the suburbs and I just
moved out to the country a couple of months ago.
Speaker 9 (09:36):
And we've got a few makers there.
Speaker 1 (09:39):
But the mist is one of men to keep all
the grass for horses.
Speaker 8 (09:42):
But I've got on a bidding war on trade me
and to spend fourteen down a tractor.
Speaker 2 (09:46):
Fourteen ko a tractor.
Speaker 4 (09:49):
Yeah, I've got my I've got my company if you
could have drive around them.
Speaker 8 (09:56):
So I'm going to look after that. And I've got
nothing to play around with a tract. I should I
should pick up?
Speaker 3 (10:05):
She doesn't know what surprise?
Speaker 2 (10:07):
What forater? I mean, it's I'm sure it's a nice tractor.
Speaker 1 (10:11):
Oh, it's beauty.
Speaker 2 (10:12):
It's a beauty.
Speaker 3 (10:13):
How do you trailer for tractors a lemon? Do you
take it for a test drive?
Speaker 4 (10:16):
Was?
Speaker 6 (10:17):
Well, it's from a dealer.
Speaker 8 (10:19):
It's like I used one from a dealer. I'm hoping
it's all good.
Speaker 2 (10:26):
I love, I love, And that's awesome. Made you happy?
We're going to hook out with some Helbiza made that
made us happy as well. That's a great call. This
needs a great texts coming through as well. My partner
spit over seven thousand dollars on a watch that never
gets worn. It's still in the box with protective coverings
on it, Watch collector. So there you go. I used
(10:48):
to splash out on This is relatable. How's this? He's
just I used to splash out on drunk Elephant skincare.
We've got this push on on the phone right now.
It's Hannah.
Speaker 3 (10:55):
Good morning, Hannah, Hi, good morning. Was this year you
used to splash out on drunk Elephant?
Speaker 4 (11:02):
Yeah?
Speaker 9 (11:03):
That was pre mum life, because.
Speaker 2 (11:06):
It didn't used to be in New Zealander, all right,
so you would have will you have to get a
source it from overseas?
Speaker 9 (11:11):
Yeah, So I would take some trips over to the
state and I would just buy up heaps of drunk
elephant and then my girlfriend's cotton onto it, and so
they would get me to also source for them. So yeah,
we'd go to I think the last trip I did
was in twenty nineteen. I went over to the state
(11:32):
and it was probably about four about almost five hundred
UI dollars I ended up spending on this drunk elephant.
Speaker 2 (11:42):
Wow, you're in a little mecha store right, Yeah, when
you come back and so what are you what are
you doing in now?
Speaker 9 (11:47):
Still no, because being a mum, you know the priority
the changing that last night I washed my makeup off with.
Speaker 3 (12:02):
I was gonna say, full disclosure. I've used this big
tub of fatty cream it's called fatty cream that my
kid's got for like some rash. I've used that on
my face. So I feel you as soon as.
Speaker 9 (12:15):
You became apparent you were not the same person.
Speaker 2 (12:17):
An Yes true.
Speaker 1 (12:19):
The hits that jonaan Ben podcast.
Speaker 2 (12:21):
Is UK artist has blown up huge recently. Her name
is Griff. She's been touring with the likes of Taylor Swift,
It She're and Cold Blake and Jua Lieper and she
joined us in the studio yesterday. Very nice to have
you in the studio. Welcome to New Zealand.
Speaker 5 (12:35):
Thanks for having me.
Speaker 2 (12:37):
Like, we got a request saying do you want to
interview Griff? And I was with my daughter at the
time and it popped up. She was being noisy next
to me and then she started talking and I was like,
I need to record it. So here's my daughter singing
when the request came through. So you've just seen that
we might be able to interview Griff.
Speaker 3 (12:51):
Oh my god, Dad, you have to interview Griff. You
always say you're not cool enough, which is pretty true.
So cool and she's open for do leaper also.
Speaker 2 (13:01):
Tell she knows, so that helps with my Callfect. Just
to thank you, Thank you.
Speaker 3 (13:05):
Just got my whole CV that's great.
Speaker 2 (13:07):
It's great for research for me. I was all right, idea.
But a pretty wild ride for you though, because you
know it's pretty much COVID lockdowns. Things just really escalated
for you just making music, putting it out to the
world in your room.
Speaker 10 (13:22):
Yeah, basically I really got going in COVID. I had
no idea people were listening.
Speaker 5 (13:26):
The brit Awards in the UK was kind of like
a really big moment for me.
Speaker 10 (13:29):
And then after that I just went on a lot
of tours I couldn't really say no to.
Speaker 5 (13:33):
It was amazing.
Speaker 2 (13:33):
So, yeah, you've really summarized, You summarized your meteoric rise
to fame and very condious.
Speaker 5 (13:38):
That's basically how it happened. Yeah, I just in my
bedroom and.
Speaker 2 (13:42):
The lastuff my bedroom didn't go quite as well as yours.
Speaker 3 (13:46):
It wasn't even it long ago that we were all
in that suddenly you're like, there is a meteoric rise
to fame.
Speaker 5 (13:52):
That's I guess.
Speaker 10 (13:53):
I don't know, it has been it's been a minute though,
it's hard to put anything into perspective. Family, My mum
is notoriously unimpressed with my pop grip.
Speaker 5 (14:03):
Oh yeah yeah. She So she's like very stereotypical like
Asian mom.
Speaker 10 (14:07):
She like immigrated from like the after the Vietnam Wars
the UK, so like pop culture just like is not
a thing for her.
Speaker 2 (14:13):
So apparents fostered a lot of yeah kids.
Speaker 10 (14:16):
Yeah, yeah, so she's she's like a good woman. She's
like looking after kids and I'm there just like I
want to be a pope.
Speaker 5 (14:23):
It just doesn't really compute her. I think the other
day I was like, you know, I'm supporting Daylor Swift.
You want to come? She was like, what time you want?
Like I have to? I was like, no, mom, I.
Speaker 3 (14:34):
Was gonna say it was the Taylor Swift moment, maybe
the moment that turned her. But she's not even a priest.
Speaker 10 (14:38):
And I think I tried to tell her a supporting colpla.
She was like, Chris Martin is he the one that
dated Gredeth Patrol.
Speaker 2 (14:43):
I was like, yeah, it's keeps you humble. Has no
idea because we're like, wow, it's yeah, it's because you're
the Era's tour. You're opening for Taylor Swift and then
performing with you know, well writing a song with Chris
and as well. Yeah, that's amazing.
Speaker 5 (15:02):
Yeah that was a real dream come true.
Speaker 10 (15:03):
I mean I've only just again, I've been writing songs
for years but only managed to pout my first debut
album like a few weeks ago. It's kind of like
the ballad on the album and it's like such a
beautiful moment live as well.
Speaker 5 (15:13):
So I feel very lucky.
Speaker 3 (15:15):
What is it like writing a song. You know, you
put something out there and you just don't even know
if someone's gonna like it. But what's it like writing
a song and then going to someone like Chris Mann
and being like, can you help me work on this?
Do you get self conscious about what you've done? And
I feel like it?
Speaker 5 (15:29):
Yeah?
Speaker 4 (15:29):
Yeah?
Speaker 5 (15:29):
It was awful.
Speaker 3 (15:32):
Yeah.
Speaker 10 (15:34):
No, Like one of the first nights I was on
the tour, he was like, Griff, we should listen to
some of your music.
Speaker 5 (15:39):
I was like, we should not do that. I don't
want to tell you any of our songs.
Speaker 10 (15:43):
And I, honestly, I just thought he was being nice,
and I'm like, Chris, you're so busy, like you don't
have time to do that. But he managed to find
time on tour and we sat down in the studio
and honestly, I spent the whole day just like so stressed,
like breaking out into sweats, like I'm not sure what
to say, not sure what to play.
Speaker 5 (15:58):
Even when I was in the studio with him, I
could make eye contact.
Speaker 2 (16:00):
Do you reckon?
Speaker 11 (16:01):
He'd like us to play some of our radio breaks
to Oh yeah, he loves it, he actually do.
Speaker 2 (16:07):
Just so when you're free, will come and place radio.
Speaker 5 (16:11):
Yeah, yeah, I'll text him. I'll say like I've got
another I.
Speaker 2 (16:14):
Mean when you are writing a song with him and
he might produce something and you're like not on board
with it, Like, how do you take that?
Speaker 10 (16:25):
He was actually weirdly, just like because I asked it
was piano and how we finished the song, and he
kept asking me how to play it. I was, honestly,
I don't care Chris anything. This is amazing that you're
here in the studio.
Speaker 5 (16:35):
So he's like, Griff, is this okay. I'm like, yes,
it's fine. You know, you're Chris, you know what's good.
So no, I was just taking all of his suggestions.
Speaker 2 (16:45):
Well, thank you for gracing us with your wonderfully quaint
British excen't say that we need it because the New
Zealand eccent does we find very plain and boring. Yeah,
my British don't pre planned.
Speaker 1 (17:03):
No.
Speaker 10 (17:06):
Okay, wrapping up, I know people are going to go
for the really accident, the meaning go for Griff's beautiful accent.
Speaker 2 (17:14):
Okay, Griff Albums, Burdigo's, I love to have you here
and congratulations on all your success.
Speaker 1 (17:20):
The hes The John and Ben Podcast.
Speaker 2 (17:22):
The lineup. Rhythm and Vines announced yesterday breaking news on
the New Zealand Herol banner. Yes, the website was breaking news.
Ice Spice, new York rapper as she hangs out with
Taylor Swift as well. Yeah, she's a huge Grammy nominated
Ice Spice is coming. I was like, was this breaking?
I mean, I guess it's big news. I don't know
if it was breaking news, but it was big. You know.
(17:43):
It's like, you know, the little rolling betner they have
on the website, but we're in lockdown or something drastic
like that.
Speaker 3 (17:49):
I don't want to speak because we work in the
same building, but I'm always surprised that some of the
things that pop up on that banner.
Speaker 2 (17:54):
Yeah, I've never been to Rhythm Vines. Looks like a
hic of a time. I feel like, maybe now a
bit bit sad if I went there, you know, like, oh,
Grace producer too loud, There'll be like, who have you
come to pick up?
Speaker 3 (18:05):
I see you're allowed there, and she cringed, you're not.
We're your crops. You'll be fine.
Speaker 2 (18:11):
Go around say things like skivity and res and stuff. Okay,
the talks two weeks ago. It was two weeks ago
today we turned on a torch. So this is just
it's a Dolphin torch, a yellow one. You've seen it,
you know your households around the country, and we turned
it on. The batteries aren't even you and we thought
a couple of days Max and the batteries would run out.
Speaker 3 (18:30):
We were like, this will be a fun thing to do,
coinciding with the Olympics. Yeah, full disclosure. We like, we
can have our own Olympic torch. It'll take a couple
of days, it'll go off. We can give away some money.
Speaker 2 (18:39):
And people would predict when the batteries run out and
the hits breakfast all we had to do. And then
we're like, it's run out and we're going to give
the money away. But this thing is still going. We've
left it with reception, the security team that worked here
twenty four hours a day to keep an eye on it.
And this morning before the show started, you and myself, Megan,
we went over and we checked it out. What is
it is it? It's two weeks today.
Speaker 3 (18:58):
It is two weeks today. The torch has been going.
Speaker 2 (19:01):
Is it still on security team? You've been looking after
it NonStop for us. It is so good off in
the night. No, oh, my goodness, this is unbelievable. Will
we left the Hits the torch will still be gone. Okay,
it lives another day, so you can still predict it
(19:23):
at the Hats Breakfast on Facebook. And the five hundred
dollars is still up for grabs.
Speaker 3 (19:27):
It is, and there's probably less people predicting now because
it's going on, so your chances high.
Speaker 2 (19:32):
It's still five hundred dollars. It's five hundred dollars. I'm
having a battery issue at home. And the last couple
of days, you know, when a smoke alarm runs out
and they start beeping, it does that little beep, which
is great to know it's run out, but it just
doesn't and you go, is that the smoke alarm? And
then you lie there and you're like, wait for it,
and it seems like an eternity and that comes back
on again a little chip. Yeah. I got so annoyed
(19:56):
the other day that I put it out, like I've
got to talk it out, and I put it outside
the window because I could see you outside like towards it.
I don't think that's no. And then yeah, this was
like the night you know, because we need our sleep
to kind of, you know, import it when we get
up at a time so annoying. It's cheap, it's chairping away.
I don't have batteries. I'm going to put it outside
so openly.
Speaker 3 (20:15):
How many days has it been doing it?
Speaker 2 (20:16):
Well, it's probably like a day or so it's been.
First night, I was like, is that the smoke alarm?
Thinking is not sure? Second night, I'm like, deafinitely smoke alarm.
So I open the window, put it outside, close the window,
my god, and then I could still hear it, you know,
but you know you're listening for it, and you're like ah.
And so then I got outside and I sort of
ate it up. I don't know why I did this,
but I kind of put it under some dirt. And
(20:37):
then I was like, I'm bearing a body in the front.
Speaker 3 (20:39):
Yard, like you're burying your smoke alarm.
Speaker 2 (20:43):
For anyone's walking past them, Like, what is he doing
in the middle of it?
Speaker 3 (20:45):
Can you not take the batteries out? Well?
Speaker 2 (20:48):
I couldn't seem to wero. I felt like in this
particular one, I don't know, I was thinking I needed
a screwdriver. I needed to go in there and I'm like, yeah,
I should have done that. I should today I'm going
to go unburied that you smoke alarm put in there
and hopefully it's still working all right. My house isn't
burnt down in the process.
Speaker 1 (21:07):
The hits that johnaan Ben podcast.
Speaker 2 (21:09):
Speaking of something that you didn't have and now you've got.
Speaker 3 (21:13):
Yeah, it's a parcel that arrived in my mail. I
am aware that it's illegal to open other people's packages, right,
I opened it.
Speaker 2 (21:19):
It's around I think it's fround, round upon. It's probably
the least cool thing in jail, though, if you do
go to jail, I know, what do you do? You
opened up a better So I.
Speaker 3 (21:29):
Got a little parcel. It was from the courier, a
little like package. It was a bubble wrap package, very nondescript.
I had nothing on the outside to show me what
it was. But it was address to Jackie. I actually
can't remember her last name, which is not helpful. So
I had a phone number on the front, which I
text and said, Jackie, I believe I have your package.
Can I get it to you? They said, not me,
(21:51):
wrong number. So not only was the phone number wrong
on the front, or so was the address because it
came to my house. It was my address, but now
I have Jackie's inside was her phone case and I
brought it with me today. It's a Samsung phone case.
I've looked into it, but it is blue. It's got
(22:12):
to see the sun sunrise over the ocean, and it's
got a little panda riding a bike.
Speaker 2 (22:17):
That's cute. That's cute Jackie would really want. Then, now
we need to try and connect this to Jackie. No, no,
it's a long shot, but we're gonna put it up
on our social media.
Speaker 3 (22:26):
Yeah, so we're gonna put up a video of the
of the picture of what it looks like that the
phone case. We know her name is.
Speaker 2 (22:34):
Jackie, Jackie. Would you know the spelling?
Speaker 3 (22:36):
I believe it was J A c Q.
Speaker 2 (22:39):
You always trips me out, jack quee. Yeah yeah, okay,
but we want.
Speaker 3 (22:44):
You to tag and Jackie's got well, yes, tagging all
the Jackies, you know, because we need to find who
this case belongs to. Phone cases aren't cheap, no, and
this looks like it's some kind of brand, some kind
of character.
Speaker 2 (22:58):
Was it seen from any company that you see on
the packaging or nothing? Nothing, very not. It could have
been like a trade me sort of. It could have
been Yeah, okay, so you've got it and you've lived
in this house for a while. Now I feel like
I'm interrogating.
Speaker 3 (23:09):
I've lived there for three years. I don't know.
Speaker 2 (23:11):
Got to get your story straight. If people come to
you asking did you open the mail and stuff like that,
you don't want to go to jail.
Speaker 3 (23:16):
The address on the front was my address, So I
don't know how Jackie missed that up.
Speaker 2 (23:23):
This papas do you know me get packages into your house? No,
you don't know about Okay, it's the first time happened.
Speaker 3 (23:29):
Actually, I'm like, I wonder if I can see packages,
like actual packages that I've bought up. I wonder if
I can just change the name on it and be like,
I don't know my husband, I don't know where my size.
Oh my god, poor Jackie, you so have to keep them.
Speaker 2 (23:43):
You just found yourself a hack. All right. We'll get
hit to the hits breakfast on Instagram and Facebook. We'll
put up a picture of the phone case that belongs
to Jackie, which I'm connected to Jackie, so tagging the Jackies,
you know.
Speaker 1 (23:55):
The hits that johnaan Ben podcast.
Speaker 2 (23:57):
There's debate raging online Megan about something that people are
saying you shouldn't do in the aisle seat of the plane.
Speaker 3 (24:04):
Is it stickularlegout? You shouldn't really do that anyway, but yeah,
you know how sometimes if you like to stretch out
and you put your foot on the outside of the
seat in front.
Speaker 2 (24:13):
Of you, and then people come, yeah, past walking past
the aisle. No, it's not that, but I don't think
you should be doing that. But some people are saying
online you shouldn't go to sleep in the aisle seat
if the plane, you know, the plane rides less than
seven hours. They're like, no, you shouldn't. You should be
awake so people can get even hours.
Speaker 3 (24:31):
This is Americans though, right, because like nowhere in New
Zealand everywhere is less than seven hours. Definitely falling asleep.
Speaker 2 (24:38):
Well, you fell a seat the other day of the plane.
Did you open mouth?
Speaker 3 (24:43):
And I hate it when you suddenly become self aware
and you realize your mouth's like wide open. And I
think I was on the aisle seat as well.
Speaker 2 (24:50):
Yeah, well apparently according to this debate, I mean not
everyone's agreeing with these people, but they're saying you shouldn't
fall asleep and an emergency as well, you're a bit drowsy.
Speaker 3 (25:00):
Excuse me. I get up at three forty five and
I have two toddlers, so I will fall asleep when
I am lone and it's quiet.
Speaker 2 (25:07):
I remember being on the aisle seat once. So it
was a flight overseas for work, and JOHNO was next
to me, and he obviously decided to try not to
wake me up to go to the bathroom, and so
for some reason he clambered over the top of me.
But his sort of crotch was towards my face that way,
and he's stood on both armorrists as he sort of
walked across over the top of me. So I woke
(25:28):
up to his basically his crotch and my face as
he was straddling the seat. Well that was her story. Anyway,
go to the bathroom?
Speaker 3 (25:35):
What way are you supposed to go? Because we climb
over someone, You're like, like, where's my bum?
Speaker 2 (25:40):
Is either going to be in your face or confronting?
Way to wake up in the middle your little drowsy
what is going on? So John's face directly John's crouched
ditrectly in my face.
Speaker 3 (25:50):
At least you knew them.
Speaker 2 (25:51):
Yeah, you know that's true. It wasn't a strange crotch.
Speaker 1 (25:55):
That johnaan Ben podcast.
Speaker 2 (25:57):
It was the first of four consecutive supermoons. We're saying.
This morning when we got up was very bright Onon't that?
Speaker 1 (26:02):
Megan?
Speaker 3 (26:02):
Do you mean consecutives? Like four nights in a row?
Speaker 2 (26:05):
Again? Oh wow, it's what's a blue moon once? They
always say once in a blue moon, but it's four
times what they're happening. Maybe this doesn't happen that often
what we're getting at the moment, So yeah, there we go.
Kind of cool. What we do get quite often, though,
is everyone piling it on celebrities cancelations.
Speaker 3 (26:26):
I didn't know that Blake Lively was going to be
canceled in twenty twenty four. It wasn't on my Bengo card.
But after It Ends with Us, which is in cinemas
at the moment, and I think it's a very good
movie based on the book by Colleen Hoover and Blake
Lively stars in it. All the drama started happening when
there were rumors that her and Justin Baldoni, who is
the male lead in that movie, had creative differences and
(26:50):
didn't get along. They weren't doing press together, and suddenly
there is a pilon on Blake Lively and her behavior
now and in the past. There's an interview that's gone
viral from twenty sixteen where she's been interviewed and she
is pregnant. It's just come out that she announced her
pregnancy and the interviewer said congratulations on your little bump.
(27:12):
She took offense to that and said congratulations on your
little bump to the interviewer who wasn't pregnant, and it's
come out she has fertility issues. So I don't think
you should have a comment on a pregnant woman's body.
I don't want woman's body in general. But so she
might have taken offense to that, but I don't think.
I think maybe she clapped back a bit her.
Speaker 2 (27:31):
It feels like a huge pylon though it does and
going we're now chrawling through and not asked someone. I'm
saying out of it, but it feels like people are
chrawling through old interviews and things that are said. And yeah,
you could say that that they shouldn't have been said,
but these were said a long long time ago, and
she's not saying these things now.
Speaker 3 (27:47):
Also, I just think that movie is about domestic violence,
violence against women, and now we are all piling and
really harshly bullying a woman.
Speaker 5 (27:58):
So is it fair?
Speaker 2 (28:00):
Yeah, no, you're right. We got talking about yesterday the
celebrities that you defend, like, are you're getting paid for
BEV caught up? And hers? Was Will Smith?
Speaker 4 (28:07):
Right? So Will Smith?
Speaker 6 (28:09):
I think it was at the time.
Speaker 2 (28:10):
Oh yeah, Will Smith? Yeah, well yeah, Will Smith. I
was massive fan of fresh prints. I've got Will Smith
shorts as well. And then we need to talk to
you about that. And then the slap and then obviously
the slap of the oscars imagine was something that a
lot of people went or maybe he went too far.
What were your thoughts?
Speaker 4 (28:27):
Well, no, not as all.
Speaker 6 (28:28):
I mean he was quite rude, and you know, should
never you don't know why someone's got the here real short,
it could have been a sickness. He should never have
made any sort of comment against his wife's.
Speaker 2 (28:38):
BEV saying defending Will Smith there for what happened with
Chris Rock. So oh, Andrew the hats, We want to
know celebrities keep his guy because there's been more celebrities
that people defend. So one hundred the hats friend, good morning.
Speaker 1 (28:50):
How are you?
Speaker 4 (28:51):
Yeah?
Speaker 8 (28:52):
Good, thank you?
Speaker 3 (28:52):
How are you?
Speaker 2 (28:53):
And now you have someone in your life that defends
a celebrity, who is the celebritylamp I'm strong, Okay, I
know someone that defend Lance Arme song family friend the
same would defend him. Was like, we weren't there, We
didn't know about all the stuff that was going on.
Is that the same for you?
Speaker 9 (29:10):
Yeah?
Speaker 8 (29:11):
My dad he's like he loves the Tour de France,
who was big on the Armstrong band wig and he
had the live Strong beand he was you know, he
was fully committed. And then when everything kind of went down,
we were kind of like, well, Dad, you know you
kind of are you rethinking this a bit now? And
he was like, oh, but to put his body through
what it went through, still performed the way he did. Honestly,
(29:35):
I think he's probably even.
Speaker 2 (29:37):
More on the band weg he's more impressed.
Speaker 8 (29:39):
It doesn't talk about it as mad.
Speaker 2 (29:41):
Oh your kidcer as well. We came back from caidcer you.
Speaker 8 (29:44):
Know, yeah, cancer as well. So I think he's like
Lance and I you know, we're we're brothers.
Speaker 4 (29:53):
We got to stick together.
Speaker 2 (29:55):
Well, I felt like maybe they were all cheating daughter France.
Maybe he just was the best about.
Speaker 8 (30:00):
It, so yeah, or on my view from the couch,
I don't see how you could do that without cheating.
Speaker 1 (30:06):
Yeah, exactly.
Speaker 8 (30:07):
You know, I think it's just who cheats the.
Speaker 11 (30:09):
Best, really, isn't the jonaan Ben podcast, know the celebrities
that you defend like you're on the payroll.
Speaker 2 (30:16):
Blake Lively, a lot of stuff said about her. We
even talked about her nineteen thousand dollars Jeanes this morning
that wasn't really a pilot.
Speaker 3 (30:23):
We were trying to cancel her for that. I'm a
big Gossip Girl fan from back in the day, so
maybe I'm swayed by that, But I just don't think
we need to cancel human beings for like things we've
done in our past.
Speaker 2 (30:33):
We make mistakes. Yeah, we'll be nice to get people
the opportunity to learn from it. Like if she's going
around saying some of these things now, then that's a
different story. I always feel like, yeah, to trawl back
through old stuff, everyone makes mistakes, Yeah, they do, don't
and her and the grand scheme of things, I mean,
there's been some atrocious mistakes made over history, and I
don't think what she has done is anything there in comparison.
(30:54):
No people that deserve to be canceled, and in this occasion,
in my opinion, maybe not so much Blake Lively, But
we wanted to know one hundred hats the celebrities you
defend Maty? Good morning, good morning? How are you now?
Celebrities you defend? Apparently you're a big backer of someone
that I'm a big backer of.
Speaker 4 (31:11):
I am being back the Rock to the.
Speaker 8 (31:16):
Meghan.
Speaker 3 (31:17):
You love the Rock the Rock, maybe not as much
as you do. I don't have a signature chattooed on
my back.
Speaker 4 (31:23):
Would on the back on my back, but not on
my leg, That's what I'd say.
Speaker 2 (31:31):
Yeah, so you would get a tattoo for the rock yep,
I would yeah. I mean, yeah, this is so much
about it where you start about the good things. I
don't feel like you need to defend him that much.
She doesn't seem to, you know, pop up.
Speaker 3 (31:43):
It seems like a nice guy.
Speaker 2 (31:44):
But every now and again, like Meghan will Oh, there
was trouble on a set of the movie once and stuff,
and I felt like I hate to defend him.
Speaker 6 (31:52):
That thing with Jason Stripp and the actors always seem
to have problems with one another eventually, true.
Speaker 3 (31:58):
And they're all creative different it says, right, yeah, And.
Speaker 2 (32:03):
Sometimes I'm like, maybe they're just trying to promote the
movie in the best way they know how anyway, Yeah, oh,
you bet the right person in the rock and you
know he can argue with it. All right, next time
he's got a movie out, we'll go to movie wherever.
A boys night at the movies. All right, Oh, hold
you to that. Okay, it sounds good, I'm doubt all right.
On the text machine as well, a lot of people
(32:23):
are jumping to the defense of other celebrities.
Speaker 3 (32:26):
Sean Johnson Kiwi. Someone said hate people bagging him when
the Warriors lose. It's true. We all feel that sentiment.
Speaker 2 (32:32):
Yeah, they say, the thirteen players on the film. That's true.
I feel like, yeah, Sean Johnson, legend of the game.
Speaker 1 (32:37):
We are.
Speaker 2 (32:38):
We're all going to miss him when he's got it.
Someone else with Nicki Minaj.
Speaker 3 (32:41):
Throughout all my afterlife, they'll defend Nicki Minaj.
Speaker 11 (32:44):
The Jhonaan Ben Podcast, Megan, the weather has been terrible
of late, shocking your poll of blasts and all sorts
of We're trying to work out just ye as the
song was.
Speaker 2 (32:52):
Playing when Springs kicking in. Now you're saying you've got
some good news.
Speaker 3 (32:56):
Do you think I always say it starts the first
of September. I know, something to do with the equinox.
Speaker 2 (33:02):
I saw twenty first and you're like, no, it's not earlier.
So I was like another month of winter. You're like, no, no,
just go from the first.
Speaker 3 (33:09):
It's the start of March, December September, and I can't
remember the other month that the season's change.
Speaker 2 (33:15):
You love your countdown to Daylight Savings too, don't you?
Speaker 3 (33:17):
So you you might have thought that I haven't been
doing this, but I have been doing it behind the scenes.
I just haven't punished you in person. The countdown has
been happening. Oh really Yeah, So as of last Sunday,
it's eight weeks until Daylight Savings.
Speaker 2 (33:31):
How's the countdown happens?
Speaker 1 (33:33):
Wait?
Speaker 3 (33:33):
Do you want an actual update?
Speaker 2 (33:34):
I'm here now, so why not? How does it happen
behind the scene?
Speaker 3 (33:37):
Six weeks?
Speaker 2 (33:38):
Also?
Speaker 3 (33:39):
Let's I literally always count down? And so I've been
telling my husband. I was like, it's two weeks until spring,
and it's six weeks until daylight.
Speaker 2 (33:46):
Do you have one of those calendars that you sort
of like X off the dates and stuff.
Speaker 3 (33:49):
I have a blackboard and my pantry that I write
things on and it's got like a.
Speaker 2 (33:54):
Little the countdown.
Speaker 3 (33:56):
I know why I'm so obsessed with this, just because
I love it when the daylight changed, I.
Speaker 2 (34:00):
Do love it. And you love Christmas too? Like what
date are putting out with me? Christmas tree?
Speaker 3 (34:04):
First of so, that means at the start of spring,
it's only two months until.
Speaker 2 (34:09):
You've gone early. Now I think I like I've gone
a little bit early because I bought the other day.
Speaker 5 (34:14):
Now.
Speaker 2 (34:14):
I love you know, those little you probably don't even
know what they are, and good on you if you don't.
Those little funko pop little vinyl dolls. You get them
of famous people. They're a little they got large queer. Yeah,
they're kind of vinyl. Yeah, you can get them a
sort of famous people, whether the athletes, musicians.
Speaker 3 (34:30):
One of who buys those?
Speaker 2 (34:32):
That's me and I feel like I could really get
away on me and my wife. All of a sudden,
she like, I put them up. I'm allowed one shelf
in the lounge, that's my shelf. And they go missing.
They just go missing. They mysteriously go missing. She she
claims she has nothing to do with them, but she
gets rid of them. I'm sure she does. So anyway,
I'm allowed this one shelf, and every now and again
I see one and I don't want to buy it,
(34:53):
but I know that it's not going to go down well,
So what I did the other day is I bought one,
and then I was like, I can't just put it
straight on to the shelf because I'll get you know,
I'll get troubled, I'll go missing. So I was like,
Father's Day's coming up a couple of weeks and I
saw one of my daughters. I was like, hey, guess
what got you your Father's Day gift already? And I
handed it over to my daughter. Yeah, to give to
(35:14):
me on Father's Day.
Speaker 3 (35:16):
Yeah, right, as long as she doesn't tell your wife,
Well that's as well. Now, I just hold it over
you for you know, a moment when she wants something.
Speaker 2 (35:25):
Yeah, because she knows that I'm going to get in trouble.
And now I know I passed the blame onto them
as well. But they're at that age now where they
can shop for me, right. Whereas for you, you know,
you and your husband, Andrew, you probably have to buy
presents on behalf.
Speaker 3 (35:40):
Of the kids, right, one year old and three year old. Yeah,
they're not going out with the cards and buying anything,
so we would buy the prison for each other. Yeah, sure.
Speaker 2 (35:47):
And and you like her funko pop.
Speaker 3 (35:50):
He usually just kicks like best dad ever pajamas.
Speaker 2 (35:54):
That's the extent of it. I always you get that
from time to time. I'm like, I'm not. I know
I'm not the best.
Speaker 1 (35:58):
I'm not.
Speaker 2 (35:59):
I want. I like my kids that I want to
be a great dad, but I know there's probably a
bitter dads out there.
Speaker 3 (36:03):
We know you're not the best dad either.
Speaker 2 (36:05):
We just give it to you a little aster. Not
technically the best dad.
Speaker 1 (36:11):
We all know that the heads that johnaan Ben podcast,
you could.
Speaker 2 (36:15):
Be winning five hundred dollars for yourself and five hundred
dollars for someone else. Thanks to our friends at Dill Marty,
they've had the catchphrase do try it for many years,
and we thought it'd be cool if people could try
our radio show. People that maybe didn't listen to our
radio show listen for a week and then we'd ask
them a quiz at the end of the week. Things
that had happened throughout the week, and if they get
it right, they get five hundred dollars in the person
(36:36):
that nominates them get five hundred bucks as well.
Speaker 3 (36:38):
Does sound a lot like a bribe.
Speaker 2 (36:42):
Now that you say it, Yes, yeah. Anyway, people that
have agreed to our bride. At the start of the week,
it was Andrea and her husband Natama, And yesterday we
spoke to him because we sent him the task. He
would normally listen to audio streaming services you know, shall
not be nice exactly, and we're like, how's it going
(37:03):
day two listening to our show? And he picked some
things that we were talking about, like the phone case
that you found in your mailbox from Jackie. Yeah, things
like that he'd been listening. This was him yesterday.
Speaker 3 (37:12):
You really funny.
Speaker 4 (37:13):
You actually got a lot of good Never didn't know
that your head.
Speaker 2 (37:18):
That's a positive phone cover you would talk about this morning?
Speaker 3 (37:22):
What's your name, Jackie?
Speaker 1 (37:23):
As you run up here.
Speaker 2 (37:26):
Listening listening. Look, so it sounds like he's been listening,
but we wanted to know the wife that, you know,
if he had been listening or maybe she's been taking
us see exactly. So she joins us right now good morning.
Speaker 4 (37:39):
Good morning, Ben.
Speaker 2 (37:39):
How are you I'm doing all right? How are you
going good?
Speaker 4 (37:42):
Thank you?
Speaker 2 (37:43):
Now we you see your husband a bit of a
challenge at the start of the week, didn't we listen
to our radio show? How much of a burden has
this been on his life?
Speaker 4 (37:51):
I don't think. I think he's embracing it. Actually, to
be fair, has he come better at night?
Speaker 3 (37:57):
Yeah? I was going to say, does he come home
and he's like, no, will never get today.
Speaker 4 (38:04):
On the radio, they're running me out. Listen to the
radio ninety seven point four.
Speaker 1 (38:09):
Time.
Speaker 2 (38:11):
And because yesterday we just played a little highlight before
we spoke to him, and it felt like he had
been listening, like he was definitely remembering moments.
Speaker 4 (38:19):
I'm quite surprised myself. Actually, I was going, what you
know that, Jackie and.
Speaker 2 (38:25):
I know, so you're feeling pretty good. I mean, he's
got to listen to the end of the week. Then
we're going to give him a bit of a quiz.
Then if he gets it right, you'll get five in
the bucks, he'll get five hundred bucks. Are you feeling good?
Speaker 4 (38:36):
