Speaker 1 (00:00):
This Jonaman Ben podcast brought to you by Hello Fresh,
The Experts and Tastes that Kiwis love.
Speaker 2 (00:05):
Probably one of.
Speaker 3 (00:08):
New Zealand Officer's most awkward workplace morning teas. I was,
I was like, what is happening here? And I'd say,
in a first of the workforce in this country. Okay,
our radio station combined a baby shower with a middle
aged man's birthday.
Speaker 4 (00:25):
It was like out with the old and with the new.
Speaker 2 (00:27):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (00:27):
So yeah, because Harry Lovely Harriet, who's our boss. She
always does a nice thing for everyone's birthday, even if
you don't want it. She will say, hey, would you
like cake or would you like coffee or whatever? We'll
have something to on your birthday. Not a huge birthday person,
I'm happy if you know, it's nice people say happy
birth At the same time, I'm more than happy for
people to not know and just go about the day.
That's fine. So yesterday I was meant to be a
(00:49):
coffee thing for me as well as producer Taylor. You
were going to have your baby shower all on the
same day. I don't know why you couldn't have had
your baby shower today. Just yeah, Anyway, I was like cool,
same day, that's fine, and then they were going to
be separate times. And then all of a sudden, I
get mine was canceled.
Speaker 3 (01:06):
Mine was canceled with no message attached to it, just boom,
canceled invite to combine.
Speaker 5 (01:11):
With yours, yeah, which I wasn't thrilled about.
Speaker 1 (01:14):
And I was feeling I felt a little bit awkward
because I was like, let's just give you. You know, yours
is a big it's a big deal, but it's just
like it's another birthday, so a big deal.
Speaker 5 (01:21):
Yeah, I agree.
Speaker 3 (01:22):
Yeah, yesterday I was like heating into the baby shower birthday.
I was like, it's going to be a ninety ten
split ninety percent baby shower timcent birthday. Looking at the paraphernalia,
it was probably one hundred zero split.
Speaker 2 (01:35):
Yeah, there was no birthday stuff there.
Speaker 4 (01:37):
There was a cake, but the cake was like painkin.
Speaker 1 (01:40):
Yeah. As I came out, everyone of the studio, everyone
gave me eppy birthday and yeah, and I got to
blow out the candle on the cake, but I felt
like that was your cat.
Speaker 5 (01:48):
It was my cake. It was my cake, So I
wasn't happy about that. I don't share things. It's enough
of my kids are sharing a womb at the moment.
Speaker 2 (01:56):
Yeah, so would you do it again? Would you do
would you would your party?
Speaker 1 (02:00):
To be honest with someone who doesn't like the attention
on myself on a birthday. It's probably quite good for
me because it shifted over to Taylor, But for produced Taylor,
I imagine it's it wasn't your ideal situation.
Speaker 5 (02:09):
No, it was it.
Speaker 6 (02:10):
And also when we meant to get coffees for your birthday,
because that I was keen for.
Speaker 5 (02:15):
We never got those, but made the diaper game.
Speaker 6 (02:19):
Well, if you're going to crash my birthday, at least
we could have is the coffee.
Speaker 1 (02:22):
And that was my request. That wasn't for your baby shit.
Speaker 3 (02:24):
The traditional birthday diapers on. It was like a piece
of pork or something.
Speaker 6 (02:30):
Yeah, it's in Louis's cage at the moment now too,
drumstick chickens.
Speaker 1 (02:34):
More of a dog.
Speaker 4 (02:35):
Who won? Who won that?
Speaker 1 (02:36):
Yeah? Competited, you're so competed.
Speaker 7 (02:40):
It's not a great trait, but yeah, I'm quite competed.
Seven sickens. It took me to get there.
Speaker 2 (02:44):
And then she keept chicking everyone else. That's time. Would
you get.
Speaker 1 (02:48):
You have a conversation with someone and then you look
over after the first of the time was but that's good
like people that compet get further iron and get further
a life. Thank you.
Speaker 5 (02:59):
Yeah, we're all here sharing.
Speaker 1 (03:03):
I think.
Speaker 6 (03:06):
You took a minute to put their na beyond good
luck early days to me mate.
Speaker 8 (03:12):
That jonaan Ben podcast.
Speaker 1 (03:14):
Taylor at your last day today, it is yeah for
a while. Yeah, you're off to have twins if anyone
having a baby, Yeah, two.
Speaker 5 (03:22):
Babies, pushing those out soon, so.
Speaker 2 (03:24):
You put She'll ask me.
Speaker 9 (03:28):
To ask.
Speaker 7 (03:29):
You can ask Taylor, because she will tell you you're
in the wrong.
Speaker 2 (03:32):
Are you going sun Roy for you? What are you doing?
Speaker 6 (03:36):
If my obstitution said, if everything continues, the ladies, I
will have a choice to go natural or be cut open.
I don't know, getting acupuncture to hopefully help with everything.
Speaker 5 (03:47):
Yeah, just see how it goes. I guess see I'm feeling.
Speaker 3 (03:50):
On the day jins Gin's number one rule Gin my
wife when she was like, she's like, just don't look down.
Speaker 2 (03:55):
She instructed me, don't look down.
Speaker 3 (03:58):
There was the first child seeking on She's like, I
do what you want and I'll tell you what.
Speaker 2 (04:03):
Pulling out a baby that is have you done that?
Speaker 1 (04:05):
Yeah?
Speaker 9 (04:06):
Did you pull it out well?
Speaker 3 (04:07):
With assistance from the professionals I got Yeah, that was
that was surreal experience.
Speaker 1 (04:13):
An emergency cesarean for you know, and I got to
put it. But through the stomach was a whole you know,
help you through the thing. It was getting cut the
y're not like you now, I didn't just go We'll
take ten minutes. We're going to get.
Speaker 7 (04:28):
Even like look past the curtain because Irians, I know
there's a crime scene.
Speaker 3 (04:32):
I'm sure there's a lot of concern from the person
giving birth about oh, you know, what are they going
to see?
Speaker 2 (04:36):
What does it look like? Honestly, none of that is
a matter. You're like, this is this is why.
Speaker 3 (04:43):
It's all very surreal and yeah, it's a beautiful experience.
Speaker 6 (04:46):
And look, I take my hat off to both of
you because you see the world that way.
Speaker 5 (04:49):
Unfortunately, my husband is not.
Speaker 2 (04:51):
The same either. I do not walk down the room
for me, but he's.
Speaker 5 (04:56):
Got a list of rules and regulations.
Speaker 2 (05:00):
There's only Marcella.
Speaker 1 (05:01):
Would it as your last day with us? We thought,
you know, that's an audience, a very helpful audience, and
in many of this thing right now would have gone through,
you know, giving birth, having kids. We thought one hundred
the HEA's four four eight seven last minute tips for
Taylor going into it, you know, maybe particularly in the
first few months of having a baby.
Speaker 3 (05:20):
I always wonder too, because when you're born, you don't
know what tastes good and what doesn't taste good.
Speaker 2 (05:24):
Right, can you save costs by feeding them pet food?
Could you like, because they don't know.
Speaker 5 (05:29):
What tastes good or not, I've got plenty of that to.
Speaker 1 (05:33):
Nutritionally, I don't know, So that's what I mean. We've
started there, then we could definitely get a lot better
than that.
Speaker 9 (05:41):
I say.
Speaker 3 (05:41):
Also, a bit of advice from me is like, get
used to talking to everyone like they're a child. But
she's been so long to talking to babies like they're
a child, that you end up and just children are
just going to be everywhere. And then you make friends
with people in a baby group and you're like, I've
got nothing in common with these people apart from we
bumped uglies around the time.
Speaker 5 (06:00):
I don't think that'll be me. You guys know me.
Speaker 6 (06:02):
I've got a potty mouth, So I don't think there's
any way to cute up here.
Speaker 2 (06:05):
Baby you'll get into the coffee groups, mate.
Speaker 1 (06:09):
I didn't, but then.
Speaker 3 (06:10):
They trudge this out of a Lands beer group and
I was like, didn't quite make it.
Speaker 2 (06:14):
So did you make it some lads beers?
Speaker 1 (06:17):
No, not really caught up with a couple of guys
from It's really nice.
Speaker 2 (06:22):
You might make some great friends.
Speaker 5 (06:23):
So I'm always on the lookout.
Speaker 1 (06:25):
No you're not.
Speaker 4 (06:26):
No, you're the latest episode of your podcast.
Speaker 9 (06:28):
You're not on the lookout for you.
Speaker 1 (06:31):
Okay, so four for eight, but let's go some baby
tips for Taylor head again to a very exciting time.
We'll do that next to the Hats, the.
Speaker 8 (06:39):
Hits that jonaan Ben podcast.
Speaker 1 (06:41):
As in the studio Comedian That Die Here.
Speaker 9 (06:43):
It's a pleasure to be here.
Speaker 10 (06:44):
Love seeing all of your smiling faces made you's been
taking along, although I mean I'm always generally pretty happy,
but this has been the toughest to you for me
on my sort of cancer journey. I've got bow cancer,
but it's just my lungs an airway and collapsed a
bit of a lung and radiation and then I'm back
into chemo in a couple of weeks. So it's been
(07:08):
it's been really tough on that on that side of things,
but also been finding heaps of smiles and heading over
to the Grand Final for I may have bought my
tickets a.
Speaker 3 (07:20):
To watch two other teams and other team you want
to watch, but heading over there, I've got I've got
a bit of funo over and manly, So heading over
there with the kids and my wonderful wife.
Speaker 10 (07:30):
So finding lots of smiles and it's awesome to be
in here and sort of help the Cancer Society because
the work that they do is phenomenal. I know I've
lent on it along the lines of therapy for myself.
Provide therapy for people's faro that are dealing with cancer,
(07:50):
which is.
Speaker 2 (07:50):
So cute counseling sort of thing.
Speaker 10 (07:52):
Yeah, because if you've got a partner who's got cancer
and you're trying to process that, trying to figure out
how to talk to kids and so forth, and counselors
that are specialized in.
Speaker 9 (08:02):
That is huge.
Speaker 10 (08:04):
Providing accommodation for people outside of Auckland who have to
come in and have treatment to take the burden of
that because cancer robs you of so much financially, emotionally,
time wise. So if you've got if you can go
somewhere where the staff at the Cancer Society are amazing.
You've got accommodation, also provide accommodation for close family and that.
(08:27):
So it's a massive help and it's awesome because they
actually get the donations because AMZ sort of looks out
to the back end of things, so it's a really
straight up charity.
Speaker 3 (08:37):
Well you see what twenty four mili they've raised over
the years, many many.
Speaker 1 (08:41):
Years, the a Z have really supported daffodil damber, the
iconic daffedils.
Speaker 10 (08:46):
I mean they've really taken over the daffodil. You know,
if you ever see a daffodil, you know they grow
on them for deaf and then you realize that they're
actually not.
Speaker 1 (08:56):
I don't know if you guys have to say at
your school, but from Valentine's that school you can order
flowers like a secret thing. So if you got a
red rose, it was someone you know, it was obviously
a big Valentine. If you got a yellow one, it
was like the friend zone and that was the daffodil
at the school, So you never wanted the daffodil back.
Speaker 8 (09:12):
You're ordering flowers or.
Speaker 2 (09:16):
It is the most romantic Masters it ever ever has been.
Speaker 1 (09:19):
I think some florists came to the school, all right,
here's how it gonna work. You've got to put the
secret or sorry. But the Dafitil then was like the
friend zone.
Speaker 2 (09:26):
So you added to.
Speaker 10 (09:27):
Your lunch over pie and apple turnover and just one
single red Rose said that.
Speaker 4 (09:34):
Very mean girls, and you're Greechen Wiena none.
Speaker 3 (09:39):
You never want to you never want to sort of
compare your journey to me on Ourse's journey. But I
imagine you probably met people we're like, wow.
Speaker 10 (09:45):
Yeah, the resilience of people, because you know, I was like,
what did I think about before I cancer?
Speaker 2 (09:52):
Yeah, I was like things I worried about so big,
and now it's like, why was it?
Speaker 10 (09:58):
Why did I waste hour was worrying about that there
was nothing?
Speaker 1 (10:02):
Some Instagram think Jay was along those lines and saying
that you have so many worries, but then when your
health is bad, it's suddenly you've only got one worry
and that's your health, you know, and how that's the
most important thing.
Speaker 2 (10:12):
You know, and that is all that matters.
Speaker 10 (10:15):
And it made me where I got to a lot
of pieces, I suddenly went wow, everyone dies with a
to do list. So while am I freaking out of that,
you know, if you look at it, there's only actually
probably three things you really need to worry about it.
But even people, if you're ninety nine, you're going to
die with a whole list of things, whether it be
(10:36):
you know, go and get a new bingo?
Speaker 1 (10:37):
Can it right?
Speaker 10 (10:39):
But so it's like, just don't sweat the small stuff.
And my thing is stop reading self help books. You
don't need self help stuff.
Speaker 2 (10:47):
Just look inside.
Speaker 10 (10:48):
Man, you got the answer.
Speaker 7 (10:53):
Can I just say, like, as as someone who's in
the public, you are putting yourself out there to get
a lot of stories from people and to imagine the
conversation and a lot of your day ends up being
about cancer.
Speaker 1 (11:04):
So here conversation.
Speaker 7 (11:05):
Thank you so much for doing that. Oh yeah, and
it's such a positive person I.
Speaker 2 (11:09):
Don't mind doing it. And it's also not just about cancer.
Speaker 10 (11:11):
I mean a lot of people ask me for selfies
at a urinal.
Speaker 2 (11:17):
Elements.
Speaker 1 (11:18):
That's not the right time to ask you forself Sorry,
it's a downside of being a Warriors fan.
Speaker 3 (11:23):
It always happened Warriors Good on you diecaminaries like I'm
on Cancer's number one influence.
Speaker 2 (11:29):
I'm pretty bigger than cancer Influencing.
Speaker 1 (11:32):
Work donation station. It is happening today. Support a Z
and the Cancer Society make every daffodil count. You can
text donate to two four four two to get the
link to donate. But Megan, if you want to make
an instant three dollars donation.
Speaker 4 (11:45):
Takes support to two oceans of.
Speaker 8 (11:47):
The hits that johnaan Ben podcast.
Speaker 2 (11:49):
Quota will drop by about ninety two.
Speaker 5 (11:51):
Yeah, the place is about to get classed. It's exciting
for you.
Speaker 3 (11:54):
Three but probably one of the most wonderful Italians I
know only tell you you're the most wonderful, wonderful. But
some last minute baby tips coming through, oh eight hundred
telephone umber.
Speaker 2 (12:08):
Some advice.
Speaker 3 (12:08):
What advice do you find you're constantly given by people.
Speaker 6 (12:14):
It's not even advice, it's actually like passive aggressive enjoying
the sleepings.
Speaker 5 (12:18):
Now, I'll work your flirks. I'm not sleeping in now thanks.
Speaker 4 (12:23):
To this job prepares you fantastically.
Speaker 5 (12:26):
Yeah, exactly and exactly.
Speaker 4 (12:29):
We don't get a lot of sleep, You'll be fine.
Speaker 3 (12:31):
Yeah, I was hoping, secretly hoping you were going to
go into labor on air.
Speaker 2 (12:35):
You know, one of those live radio, But that's not
going to happen, and then we're rolling live.
Speaker 1 (12:41):
Baby some advice right now, But I had hats because
the hat's audience are so good with advice.
Speaker 2 (12:49):
Yeah, Carol, good morning to you.
Speaker 11 (12:51):
Good morning.
Speaker 2 (12:52):
How's Tims this morning? Carol?
Speaker 12 (12:55):
Well, I'm actually over and long on the sitting at
the main sears beech watching the sea.
Speaker 4 (13:01):
That sounds lovely.
Speaker 2 (13:03):
What a place.
Speaker 11 (13:05):
Climb.
Speaker 3 (13:06):
Well, it's a lovely place to be calling from at
the moment, Carol.
Speaker 2 (13:09):
What's your advice? Last minute baby tips?
Speaker 3 (13:11):
Kezer, Just make sure that you take time out for yourself.
Speaker 7 (13:17):
That is nice and like if you don't have time
to go anywhere going outside that sounds like a silly thing,
but going outside and getting fresh air is really good when.
Speaker 12 (13:26):
You keep up the baby and look for the makeup.
Speaker 2 (13:31):
Yourself up for us mate found when through.
Speaker 5 (13:38):
Desperate need to founding.
Speaker 4 (13:42):
From yourself up. Smile.
Speaker 2 (13:49):
Thanks for you really appreciate it, Rebecca. Last minute baby tips?
Speaker 1 (13:52):
What do you got for Taylor? Better?
Speaker 2 (13:54):
Is?
Speaker 12 (13:54):
This doesn't matter whether it's Bristol bottles, bristol formula about
what people say.
Speaker 13 (14:02):
Just make sure that babies are feed's.
Speaker 12 (14:07):
Just make sure your babies are fed, don't.
Speaker 14 (14:09):
I know, the hormones are.
Speaker 1 (14:10):
Hard, but yeah, yeah, people do love to give advice.
But in the day, do you do your mate?
Speaker 2 (14:15):
You go hard on the breastfeeding.
Speaker 6 (14:17):
No one he suggested to me, like vitamin suggested you already.
I'm like the size of myself.
Speaker 7 (14:23):
But no one puts more pressure on on that than
the actual woman themselves. Like you know, there's so much
pressure out there, and if you can't do it or
it doesn't feel good, there's so much.
Speaker 4 (14:33):
Pressure, you feel terrible. But it feed is best, exactly.
Speaker 2 (14:36):
That's a great way to When you said look at them,
and she didn't mean to actually look at that.
Speaker 1 (14:41):
I I'm not going to SAMs.
Speaker 2 (14:49):
What your last tip for Taylor?
Speaker 13 (14:52):
Yeah, I reckon. But the biggest one why I've got
is don't buy the baby change mats from the supermarket
or from the baby stores. Go to kmart and give
the Ancho puppy change mats because they're the exact same thing.
And I just looked up the price and for fifty
baby change matts it's twenty nine dollars and for one
hundred puppy mats it's only twenty four.
Speaker 5 (15:13):
So money there, that's that's last price.
Speaker 1 (15:18):
Probably give a little box for your kids as well too.
Speaker 9 (15:21):
Yeah.
Speaker 5 (15:21):
I've already got so many puppy mats too from Louis.
Speaker 2 (15:24):
Yeah, little kidnap. Yeah, that's incredible. Now you've just exposed
an entire industry of baby change mats here, Sam.
Speaker 13 (15:33):
Yeah, yeah, just make sure you don't use my last name.
I don't want to come.
Speaker 2 (15:36):
Out what's coming up.
Speaker 13 (15:39):
But yeah, that was the tip that came from the family.
You've always got to have someone watching your back.
Speaker 1 (15:43):
Yep.
Speaker 4 (15:44):
Yeah, thanks for that, just as i don't need it anymore,
just as I've moved out of that territory.
Speaker 13 (15:48):
Thank you again.
Speaker 11 (15:50):
I was always in the office.
Speaker 14 (15:50):
You've got to come out.
Speaker 2 (15:52):
Now, Taylor.
Speaker 3 (15:53):
Last bit of advice too. Yeah, it goes quick. That
would be my advice. It's such a such a cliche,
like what you're going to go through. You'll be like,
this is never gonna end, We're never gonna get sleeping,
and all of a sudden one day you're like, geez,
the kids are.
Speaker 2 (16:06):
Gonna leave home in three or four years.
Speaker 3 (16:07):
Oh wow, it's just you and Marcellow bickering against.
Speaker 9 (16:15):
Jesus.
Speaker 4 (16:16):
What do they say? The days are long, but the
years fly by.
Speaker 2 (16:19):
So that's truly, it is so true.
Speaker 1 (16:22):
You pretty much get you know, if you're lucky, you
get eighteen summers with the kids.
Speaker 4 (16:26):
Yeah, do you know what I'm thinking about now?
Speaker 7 (16:28):
Sorry to make this about me, but my son's like
about too and four and he's getting really heavy and
you pick him up and every time I pick him up.
Speaker 4 (16:35):
Now I'm like, this could be the last time I
pick him up because it gets to a point where
you don't pick your kids up anymore. So just think
about all those things. It's difficult.
Speaker 6 (16:44):
Well, I think about Louis in the Summer's Rule and like,
dogs don't survive that long.
Speaker 1 (16:54):
For Louis, you're going to miss Taylor.
Speaker 15 (16:57):
You can get podcast.
Speaker 8 (17:00):
It's the Jonavan Ben Podcast.
Speaker 3 (17:01):
Now we need to confront being done. We megan about
something that you saw yesterday.
Speaker 1 (17:06):
Oh yeah now this Yeah, I'm glad we cleared this
up at the almost a bit scandalous. Yeah. My daughter Siena,
as you just said before, she's got a podcast out today.
We're doing together When I Grow Up, And she was
in the studio we're doing some stuff for the podcast.
She was here throughout the day. Yeah, you know, c
Scott Curly Brown here, very similar to producer Grace.
Speaker 4 (17:28):
Both pretty short you are, she's shorter than me, and
that's saying something.
Speaker 3 (17:34):
Mega's like, pretty short, no offends Grace hands in the
air and the producers I'm not a forteen year old
girl like, she's like, what the heck?
Speaker 4 (17:42):
Regular size? Okay, people, it's your pockets, your fun size
that's worse.
Speaker 1 (17:50):
I don't know what that means. My daughter had been
in between doing some stuff for the podcast. She'd been
out doing some others, like you gotta do some school
workout at the studio, so she was doing there, came
in to get something off me. At some stage, I
give her a hug, Give her a hug. You look over.
All you see is me hugging someone worth.
Speaker 2 (18:08):
Curly Brown here, fun sized, a fun sized figure. He
didn't misled into your shoulder.
Speaker 7 (18:16):
Armpit area, just like come straight in the studio, goes
straight for a hug.
Speaker 4 (18:20):
You were into it.
Speaker 7 (18:20):
It was a big squeeze and I was out of
the corner of my eye, was like, I did not
realize that being and Grace had that relationship.
Speaker 2 (18:27):
But what were you thinking at the time? Were you
like this is inappropriate?
Speaker 1 (18:31):
Were you no?
Speaker 7 (18:32):
It was just like I've never seen them hug before.
I don't know why they're like, I didn't know that
they were that close.
Speaker 1 (18:36):
Okay, we get all great, but I don't think we've hugged.
I don't think we've hugged yet.
Speaker 2 (18:42):
To be honest, I don't think you'll ever huge that
in the future.
Speaker 1 (18:45):
Particularly works, particularly works that work is an environment that
you know, maybe if we you know, you see someone
out of the hay out and about the studio, But.
Speaker 2 (18:55):
It was a strange thing. People you see every day
in the office, you don't.
Speaker 3 (19:00):
We don't hug, but you know, if we ran into Megan,
for example, on the weekend, we'd probably feel an obligation
to hug.
Speaker 4 (19:06):
It would be like one of those like lean in
a kind of a tech.
Speaker 2 (19:09):
Yeah, in the studio environment, very inappropriate, don't touch your
hands off from the studio.
Speaker 7 (19:14):
And you're right, it's weird like before we work together
every day, if I saw you, we probably would like
do a little hug.
Speaker 4 (19:19):
But like the closer you are, the least you hug.
Speaker 1 (19:22):
We can't do it. If I mean, it feels like
you can't do it.
Speaker 2 (19:25):
You tried to initiate it. That wasn't with Grace showhugging policy,
just so you know.
Speaker 1 (19:30):
So I'm glad we cleared that up because you know
left and you've got oh my god, that was that
was Grace. It's a big squeeze the gat Jazz scandal.
Speaker 8 (19:37):
Heres the Jonan Ben podcast.
Speaker 3 (19:41):
We've got a very special gifts in the studio. His
name is Ben Boyce. He has got to bring you
podcast today. It's another white guy with a podcast.
Speaker 1 (19:50):
It's not the podcast, mar It's not really my podcast,
to be honest, guys. Yeah, okay, my daughter c is
here right now. It's your podcast. I just thought of
tag along.
Speaker 4 (20:00):
You're writing the coattails of your talented daughter.
Speaker 1 (20:02):
I'm doing Christian as you know theory, right, you know
that's what she did when you suddenly decide that your
kids are far more talented than you and see and
it's got to and you've got.
Speaker 2 (20:11):
The swamp card to the studio.
Speaker 1 (20:12):
So she needs to get in here, needs to get here,
exactly needs to drive So new podcast. You get a
card when I grow up. Yeah. No, it basically came
about because and you probably get the same with your kids.
And it's quite daunting when your kids think about the
rest of your lives even though at any age, and
so I guess you know, would often come back and go, oh,
when I grow up, I want to be there, So
I want to be there and that would change and
(20:33):
we sort of have those conversations and you're like, this
is quite daunting. And so the idea behind the podcast
is if you need it, just if you.
Speaker 16 (20:40):
Don't even know what you're going to be, because like
what path like you just don't know what lies ahead.
That sounds like really like what lies it something out
of like a horror movie.
Speaker 9 (20:49):
But it's just honestly is just like you just don't know.
Speaker 16 (20:52):
So this podcast is just kind of just inspire people
and to show how much hard work goes into any
of these amazing.
Speaker 1 (20:59):
People talking to inspirational females. Yeah, and it's been cool,
I mean because I've been I've been doing the organizing
of setting off the emails and history people for I am.
I'm the celebrity booker. I mean, I feature a little
bit on the podcast, but more see it. But I'm
the singer celebrity booker. But it's been interesting for many years,
you know, we've tried to get people on our various
(21:20):
TV show, radio shows It's amazing how quickly people come
back with the years when it's an earnest thing aimed
at young girls, inspiring young girls and their parents to
listen to a poker. I'm like, people that we've never
got on any of the John el Bin stuff will
come through.
Speaker 2 (21:33):
So maybe we should have said we were young girls
looking for advice.
Speaker 1 (21:37):
But it is cool. It's a really cool lesson people
who've got to talk to Eliza McCart Neelisa Carrington, Karen Walker,
Lucy Lawless, Grace Nowiki. You know all these amazing people,
you know, giving their time and you learn something from
each of them along the way. It's been really cool
from their story and even if you don't end up
doing what they do, even for me, I'm sitting there going, oh,
that's cool how they did that or they learned from that.
(21:58):
It's it's really it's been quite ants.
Speaker 4 (22:01):
You mentioned Karen Walker, she's a bit of a hero
of mine.
Speaker 7 (22:04):
How do you go into these chats in her with
like these inspiring women who have, you know, incredible careers
and accolades to get nervous?
Speaker 16 (22:12):
Oh yeah, obviously still getting nervous because I'm like, oh
my god, these people are like so famous, Like was
like Elizamcartney and my, oh my god, she's won like
a bronze middle at the Olympics. Like it's just crazy
how far they came. But at the end of the day,
they're just they're just people, and they're honestly really nice.
Like there's no people that have just been like mean,
you know, that would.
Speaker 2 (22:30):
Be pretty savage of the mean to be.
Speaker 1 (22:35):
It's been cool even that each one you talk to,
you kind of learned a little bit. Like I said before,
the best story it lives McCartney. What really blew me
away from her? She was like, like a lot of
kids just tried so many different sports and it was
a chance. One afternoon her friend was like, do you
want to come to this pole vaulting thing. It's like
a trial thing. You can come along and have a go.
And she was like, oh yeah. You know, if she
hadn't gone, oh yeah, she sixty say she had won
(22:56):
bronze at the Olympics, you know at that moment, oh yeah,
moment was with you know, as she's like, you don't
know what you're good at unless you try, and for
so many of us, we don't try enough stuff. You know,
and I'm sadding they go, oh, man, I could have
been good at something. You never know, the media. So
those sort of things have been really.
Speaker 7 (23:14):
Rich, being a yes person, you know, to saying yes
to weird invitations like that You're like, yeah, I will
give it a go.
Speaker 1 (23:20):
So it's really cool. So it's out today, first episode
with Jazz Thornton. Yeah, out today. Yes, it's exciting, easy
even he knows the release Jess on the first episode,
Who's amazing mental health advocate, incredible stories Jazz and actually
we've got a little snippet for to play right now
or Jazz all the amazing things that she's done. This
was her highlight.
Speaker 5 (23:40):
You've done so.
Speaker 16 (23:41):
Many amazing things, from winning reality shows to speaking at
the un movies.
Speaker 1 (23:46):
Books, podcasts, podcast, this podcast.
Speaker 4 (23:49):
What is the one thing you're most proud of? All
of these things have been really cool to do.
Speaker 17 (23:54):
And you know, I would have never managed imagined winning
Dancing with the Stars, will been able to work with
Prince Harry.
Speaker 4 (23:59):
But I think of absolutely everything.
Speaker 17 (24:01):
There was a moment I'll never forget where I was
speaking at a conference and there was this mother that
came up to me and she was just crying then
she just said, my daughter, she's been in and out
of psyche words for a long time. She's been really struggling,
and I got her your book. When she read it,
it was the first time that she felt her the
first time that she felt like there was hope. And
I remember kind of looking up and the daughter was
there and she's crying, And I think, I cry every
(24:23):
time that I need people like that. All I've done
is gone, hey, there is hope, and other people have
chosen to fight to stay. And I think that's what's
really cool.
Speaker 2 (24:31):
It's lovely.
Speaker 1 (24:32):
I just thought the first episode today, when I grow up,
get it. Whenever you get your podcasts one every week.
Speaker 2 (24:36):
Have you decided what you want to be?
Speaker 1 (24:38):
Now? I guess you just have to find that options there.
Speaker 2 (24:44):
She's looking at dare going whatever. The opposite of that
is exactly.
Speaker 8 (24:48):
The hits that johnaan ben podcasting.
Speaker 1 (24:51):
Into the weekend, And you know, normally that's when everyone
talks about what are you up to? What's your plans
this weekend? And I feel like one of the things
I need to do over the weekend and my family
are involved in, is not up there with the best weekend.
Speaker 3 (25:03):
Yeah, right, you're calling it the worst weekend. It's not
often that we get to celebrate the worst. Everyone's away,
who's done the best? Who's who's one?
Speaker 14 (25:11):
This?
Speaker 2 (25:11):
Who's one that?
Speaker 3 (25:12):
Lets celebrate the best? No, sometimes you need to take
take a step back and celebrate the worst in life.
Speaker 1 (25:17):
Now, my lovable dog, a goofball of a dog bow,
big white, fluffy samoi dog. He got some sort of
little little cut on his sort of I don't know
if dogs have shins, but the equivalent spot of what
would be his shin on his leg. Just a little thing,
just a little so.
Speaker 2 (25:33):
But they're also arms as well, aren't they.
Speaker 1 (25:37):
In the front ones of the arms of the back line,
probably near his elbow there, Yeah, right, Yeah, it's far up,
just a little cut, nothing to major. And the unised
dog said, they like to they like to look at it.
You know, it's this guy that's kind of the little
instinct in it.
Speaker 2 (25:52):
So it was like the version of an anti snic. Yeah,
but in their tongue with their mouth. Is dog's mouth worse.
Speaker 1 (26:00):
Than my mouth? Yeah, you're right, all the stuff they've got. Yeah,
So he was sort of, you know, licking this, and
then I think he became a bit of obsession for him,
and then so he sort of started looking at more
and instead of biting away, and he made it a
lot worse over the course of a couple of days.
So we took him to the vet. The vets like, ah, fine,
we'll just put a bandage, nice hot pink bandage around him,
(26:21):
sort of stretchy one and that'll stop him from you know,
looking at and going at it. And hellever a couple
of days and it'll be fine.
Speaker 4 (26:27):
No cone, you should that put a cone around the head.
Speaker 1 (26:30):
Well they didn't on this one, but yes, so they
were like, oh, he'll be fine, it's on nice and tight.
Well we came home yesterday and we're like, oh, where's
the bandage. Bandage gone? And it was must have fallen off.
Looked everywhere for it, and then we're like, oh, oh,
maybe the dog has eaten it and eaten the bandage,
and so we went back to the vet. The vets like, well,
(26:50):
if this has happened, you need to be on constant watch.
Speaker 2 (26:53):
Constant. You don't want to hear the words constant.
Speaker 1 (26:56):
Watch to see.
Speaker 4 (26:57):
They're like surprised. This is why we make them hot pink.
Speaker 1 (27:00):
Yeah, if this thing does eventuate to come out of
the through the digester system.
Speaker 2 (27:05):
And so what have you done? A spreadsheet of shifts?
You're pulling different ships and other shifts.
Speaker 1 (27:11):
Yeah, because in the past, when the kids were a
little we had a sock so and I and that
that was like an extra tailway to pull that out
of it.
Speaker 2 (27:18):
Did I have some resistance in there?
Speaker 1 (27:20):
A little bit?
Speaker 2 (27:21):
YEA quite a tight.
Speaker 1 (27:25):
Yeah, it was like one of those I guess you
make a lot of pasta ay when you put it
through the little thing and it sort of squeezes out
on a plate o little one of those little.
Speaker 3 (27:32):
Plan Yes, shout out to all the you know, the
emergency department people who have to pull the stuff out
of people.
Speaker 2 (27:38):
So that I was slipped in the shower.
Speaker 1 (27:40):
He's got. He's got at the moment too. They're not
like the cone. There's like their new thing. Have you
seen these floating grounds. It kind of looks how you
slck Saturn. It's like a big massive ring around his head.
So it's not like the Cone of Shame, but it's
still quite shameful.
Speaker 2 (27:53):
But then how did that?
Speaker 3 (27:54):
I always find it funny when they have to navigate
their way through tight doors or because they're not factoring
in the wide half a meter's circle that there you
can have a look at all.
Speaker 1 (28:03):
Well, it's like he's it's like a blue ring around him.
We'll kick rolling him satur it at home. You can
put him on the carpet of the car.
Speaker 4 (28:11):
He's going to go on an airplane.
Speaker 1 (28:13):
It's a lot softer for them when they do lie down,
which is but still just a shame.
Speaker 2 (28:17):
But he can still get to his leg obviously, Well
no he can't with that one.
Speaker 1 (28:20):
Oh yes, that's stopping him from getting to that so
oh and the hats four four eight seven. That's what
I'm doing this week in my family. I think it's
quite possibly the worst thing on anyone's agenda this weekend.
If you can beat it on one hundred the hats.
We've got a great price a j Hackett bungee. It's
all around the country, but they've got a local special
in Auckland till the eighth of September fifty percent off
the locals Auckland Activity sky Jump, skywalk, bungee climb as well.
(28:43):
So if you want to win about you to do
a jump, you don't have to be a local of Auckland.
We've got to jump with a photo and a video
with Twitter and E five bucks, which is great, great price,
thank you aj Hackett Bunge. You can win that because
you're having a lame weekend this weekend. You can do
that one weekend and have a fun weekend.
Speaker 3 (28:57):
Okay, So if you're planning on sitting on your couch,
have it in purple Dorito chips, steering at a wall,
questioning your life to I think I'll just.
Speaker 2 (29:06):
Described by sounds like a dream.
Speaker 8 (29:07):
Weekend weekends that John and Ben podcast who.
Speaker 1 (29:11):
Wanted to know heading into the weekend, who's having quite
possibly the lamest weekend? Kind of like mine where I'm
on watch to see what if my dog actually, well,
how do I say this to the radio? TEMs passes
a bandage through a system through the bowels.
Speaker 2 (29:28):
But now the pink bandage that was on his leg,
that you do pink bandage? Won't it be adhesive? So
could it potentially stick.
Speaker 1 (29:34):
To Hopefully he's going to be okay.
Speaker 7 (29:37):
It's also like this moisture would ruin the stickiness inside?
Wouldn't it go into great detail.
Speaker 1 (29:42):
Here we go get a lot of details stomach hopefully,
but yeah, if you have got a lame weekend like
my weekend? Then andrew the hats we've got thanks to
A J. Hackett bungee We've got that amazing prize at
Auckland Bungee Jump with a photo and a video that's
up until the end of NOVMB could do that one
with two D five dollars because they've got their local
special at the moment, fifty percent off for awkwardess.
Speaker 2 (30:04):
What do you got this week in? Megan? Have you
got anything lame? You're planning on watching a semi eerotic.
Speaker 1 (30:08):
Movie with your in law.
Speaker 4 (30:09):
It's father stay this weekend, so I am I'm not watching.
Speaker 9 (30:13):
With them.
Speaker 3 (30:14):
No, don't you hate that when you're watching a movie
and all of a sudden it takes a bit of
a gear change and you're in laws and you're like, oh,
do you do that weird thing.
Speaker 7 (30:20):
Where you're like something very still, You're like, don't move.
I'm very aware of my body and every movement I'm making.
Speaker 2 (30:25):
Yeah, well, go I put the jug on it. Everyone's
sitting there in silence, thinking exactly the same thing.
Speaker 1 (30:31):
This is all good.
Speaker 2 (30:32):
Yeah, you watched bridget He watched Bridgeting with his mom.
Speaker 1 (30:34):
Yeah, and watching it and I was like, oh, watch
it by this, and I had a couple tea in
my hand at del Marre at the time, and then
I was like, I need to go get another.
Speaker 4 (30:42):
One because then it makes it even more.
Speaker 1 (30:47):
I spoke about that.
Speaker 2 (30:48):
Again, Dylan. You think you're having the worst weekend in
New Zealand.
Speaker 14 (30:53):
Yeah, well, I'm going to be sitting there by myself,
my partners at work, and last week I had a
couple of sick days for the pretty bad sickness, so
I got no money to go and have fun.
Speaker 2 (31:06):
Just sitting there alone.
Speaker 14 (31:08):
Yep, just sitting there wondering what I'm going to do,
twiddling my thumbs.
Speaker 2 (31:12):
Sounds. I see why we don't do the worst weekend.
Speaker 9 (31:16):
He said.
Speaker 14 (31:17):
I think I'd rather be on dog Watch.
Speaker 1 (31:20):
Oh you care like a jump them off? Yeah, that's
what Dylan's this weekend on hold.
Speaker 2 (31:26):
Steven, depress us? What bleak things up to?
Speaker 1 (31:29):
This weekend?
Speaker 11 (31:30):
I am hitting an operation on Monday. I cannot eat anything.
On Sunday, I'm going to take the yucky bill Bloody's death,
so I have to sit next to us through I
have have you heard.
Speaker 4 (31:47):
About this stuff? It's it's aggressive on your bowls.
Speaker 2 (31:52):
You need to give the door.
Speaker 1 (31:54):
Yeah, tell me if it works on Monday.
Speaker 3 (31:58):
And then so Stephen's spinning the whole of Sunday on
a toilet aggressively.
Speaker 2 (32:06):
Okay, now are those two words combined.
Speaker 4 (32:09):
I'm going to think about you this Sunday.
Speaker 2 (32:11):
Good luck and pop step five million behind you?
Speaker 1 (32:14):
See he said, yeah, okay, So we've got two options
so far. This is gonna be tough to pack. And
we're going to take one more call. They're going to
confuse us.
Speaker 3 (32:21):
Probably it will take one. Mate, Kendrick, you're on worst weekend.
I noticed it's all the males having the worst weekend.
What's happening this weekend? Kendrick?
Speaker 11 (32:32):
Ah, you're not not much just giving?
Speaker 2 (32:34):
Okay, still beefing with Drake?
Speaker 1 (32:38):
He done?
Speaker 3 (32:38):
There's even a mad weekend and Drake not getting along.
Speaker 1 (32:43):
I don't think this is Kendrick all right?
Speaker 2 (32:46):
Stephen? Can I ask you what the operation was too?
We didn't ask you on Monday? What are you having?
And I think and he's got a split roasting Monday?
Speaker 9 (33:01):
Ben who.
Speaker 1 (33:04):
Esteven when your bows sort themselves out, you can hear
a log to aj Hackett and Auckland to do a
budget dubb it substage with this weekend. I don't put
it on the agenda this weekend, thank you very much.
Speaker 3 (33:18):
And he'll tell you what we'll get you out to
help Pizza that'll fill in twenty minutes of your weekend.
Speaker 8 (33:21):
Right, it's funds that John and Ben podcast.
Speaker 3 (33:27):
The Fern Maya Wilson modernaz it helping the Cancer Society
make a definitel day count the staffit all day.
Speaker 1 (33:34):
You can text today night two four four two to
get the link to donate. And you've teamed up with
them because it's a special to you, all.
Speaker 18 (33:41):
Right, Cancer Society.
Speaker 19 (33:43):
I've been lucky enough to work with a Z over
the years and they have partnered up with Cance Society
for something like thirty four years.
Speaker 18 (33:49):
How incredible to donate to such a good cause.
Speaker 1 (33:52):
Twice before million I was reading that they've raised over
the years.
Speaker 19 (33:55):
It's incredible, absolutely heartwarming to a cause that actually changes
people's life. So for me and my story, my mother
headline cancer in twenty twenty had a third of herd
lung taken out, and prior to that, my grandmother has
had breast cancer and non hodgkins On foma and leukemia
was the thing.
Speaker 18 (34:12):
That took her away from us.
Speaker 19 (34:13):
So for me, I'm just really proud to be able
to partner up with such a heart warming cause that
is defitial.
Speaker 3 (34:20):
Day And yeah, sure your grandmother would be very proud
of you doing such a thing. It's because you know,
cancer obviously affects the people who are dealing with it,
but also the wider group.
Speaker 18 (34:28):
Yeah, definitely.
Speaker 19 (34:29):
That's what I've learned in my journey is it's not
just about the individual, but it's the journey of faro friends,
the milkman down the road who might need to pop
down and drop off some few groceries so or whether
it just you need a helping hand to just sit
with your treatments.
Speaker 18 (34:46):
Cancer Society awesome.
Speaker 19 (34:47):
They do things like counseling, that's one of the services
that they offer. Whether you need a driver to get
to your appointments, why not donate because every single deafitil counts.
That's the whole point of this campaign, no matter how
big or how small. Get to the supermarkets where they've
got their little collections going on, or go online to donate,
going to an AMZ branch.
Speaker 1 (35:08):
One and three kiwis I think you think one three
either with themselves or someone they know, so I think
everyone will know someone or something, So that's such an
important thing to get in behind.
Speaker 2 (35:19):
When long to see you guys play. Jeez, in real
life it is reliefless.
Speaker 4 (35:23):
It is so quick.
Speaker 18 (35:24):
I'm surprised you didn't get on the court.
Speaker 2 (35:26):
Do you know what.
Speaker 18 (35:27):
I'm sure we can arrange that.
Speaker 3 (35:28):
I think I was out at the Pulman Bruce Pullman Center,
and I think I was because my daughter was like,
I really want to get some autographs and stuff.
Speaker 2 (35:34):
But then she went over the other side of the
court at the end of the game, and then I
was just left there standing there getting autographs from you.
Speaker 1 (35:41):
Who doesn't have a daughter? He just broke someone along.
Speaker 2 (35:48):
Is it weird when adults are waiting at the end
of the game to get autographs, Well, when they look
like you, Yes, I think that's that's.
Speaker 1 (35:58):
Were you like. First year of high school you made
the senior team. Yes, really incredible.
Speaker 18 (36:03):
Left school very fish here.
Speaker 19 (36:04):
I went to play for the Pulse in Wellington and
that year I made the Silver Ferns.
Speaker 18 (36:08):
So wow, I've been running this gig. I think this
is nine seasons.
Speaker 2 (36:12):
Now, so we're eighteen playing for the Silver Ferns. Yes, geez,
that's wild. Yeah, that's pretty cool.
Speaker 1 (36:18):
And a scholarship you got offered to the US for
basketball as well, which she turned down. It's been a
tough decision to go. Which pathway do I take?
Speaker 19 (36:24):
Well, as I've been watching the Olympics, I have wondered
whether I made the right course.
Speaker 18 (36:31):
I definitely did.
Speaker 19 (36:32):
But if New Zealand ever made it into the Olympics,
youd best be sure. I'm going to try and give
it a crack. I'd love to be an Olympian.
Speaker 1 (36:38):
Oh, definite. Day it's all about things yellow, a and zed.
So John, I'm going to see if you can describe
I've got some little nights. You have famous yellow things.
You've got to try and describe them for my to guess. Okay,
we're gonna see how many you can do with six. Okay,
here we go. You're not allowed to say the actual
name of what it is, Okay, but we'll see how
we go with this one. Okay, famous yellow.
Speaker 2 (36:55):
Things Okay, Oh yeah, lives it lives in the thing
under the sea.
Speaker 18 (36:58):
Spongeby booms On.
Speaker 2 (37:00):
Oh you put it on usually with ham sandwiches, quite spicy,
hot English mustard. Yes, well done. He's the father of
the Simpsons. He's a big giant bird. Okay, sour oh lemon?
Yeah yeah, Oh, it's the official flower of the day.
Speaker 3 (37:19):
You're representing a couple of great for potesting them potestic banana. Oh,
they grew grew their little men. He's a Pokemon pictures.
You're like stearing me dead in the eyes one of these.
Speaker 1 (37:41):
I was dropping all the cards and everything.
Speaker 2 (37:43):
It was my pressure, my Wilson Hay.
Speaker 3 (37:45):
Thanks for coming and congratulations on being ambassador for such
a wonderful cause.
Speaker 2 (37:48):
Deaford all day.
Speaker 8 (37:49):
Donate you guys, definite heads that Jonathan ben podcast.
Speaker 3 (37:54):
A bit of a backstory, there's that there's a website
that is just blazing through the office like a wall,
like wildfire at the moment, with a certain demo, high quality.
Speaker 4 (38:04):
A certain demo. It says you, who's getting it.
Speaker 2 (38:07):
I'm just saying part of the demo.
Speaker 4 (38:09):
No, you were going to say it was the females.
Speaker 2 (38:11):
I'm in there as well. Okay, I'm in this demo,
deep in the demo.
Speaker 3 (38:15):
It's a website offering high quality fashion brands and an
unbelievably low price.
Speaker 1 (38:22):
Yeah, you know, how legitimate is this website?
Speaker 4 (38:25):
What do you mean by legitimate, like the goods legitimate
or are they from the legitimate brands?
Speaker 1 (38:29):
Yeah? Have the brands of the brands got how?
Speaker 8 (38:31):
You know?
Speaker 4 (38:31):
I don't think the brands have ticked it off.
Speaker 3 (38:34):
Let's just say no radio show is going to have
more luxurious handbags than this one right here.
Speaker 2 (38:41):
Okay, we're going to have anything. I'm not born it.
Speaker 1 (38:46):
They do it.
Speaker 3 (38:46):
It's the kind of website they do a really good
job with, like describing the brand of let's say a
particular shirt and one that was written was popular miniature
man playing polo on a horse brand.
Speaker 2 (38:58):
That'll be the description.
Speaker 3 (39:00):
If you took the h off Hucci and replace the
first age with a G, you might get the spring gotcha?
Speaker 2 (39:07):
Okay?
Speaker 7 (39:08):
Yeah, so I it's like but it's not only that,
it's got like everything like you you know, it's got
even like goods for your house, like I think lighting
and stuff.
Speaker 1 (39:17):
It's everything, and at prices that you probably imagine you
want to be paying for the should.
Speaker 7 (39:21):
We say prices we're not used to for those brands.
And so I am a big fan of online chopping
in general. I have dedicated a horrible amount of time
of my life this week to this website.
Speaker 2 (39:34):
Oh yeah, not only at home and work. It worked
to you all your looking through the thing.
Speaker 1 (39:40):
Look at this look got everyone started on it.
Speaker 2 (39:42):
I am pretty much responsible, so I did bring it
to the showy. Yeah, I haven't locked at it yet.
He's too scared to order counterfeit.
Speaker 1 (39:51):
I would conscious would be boying out and about and
then get photos of social media, but be like, this
is not a genuine top. It's not a'm going. I
just can't do it.
Speaker 8 (40:00):
I know.
Speaker 1 (40:00):
I don't feel like I have one of those websites
that put people's faces on there, and I'm like, they
give permission for that person to do that.
Speaker 3 (40:07):
I love that we think that the FBO and anopolygamy
scrolling through beans Instagram.
Speaker 1 (40:12):
That doesn't look like an official if I bought it
from something, and then then I'm part of the problem.
I feel.
Speaker 7 (40:18):
If you're starting to suddenly wear like a full blown
Gucci track suit, we're all.
Speaker 1 (40:22):
Gonna ask questions.
Speaker 7 (40:24):
I don't think you need to get away with it,
but I have like you look good at it, though
I have like fifty things in my cart just sitting
there looking at me, and my husband was like, you
need to stop because every night this week it's got
to like ten thirty. And he was like, you have
to be up very soon, like get off this website.
Speaker 2 (40:41):
So he's put a cease and desist like you said
on the website for you.
Speaker 4 (40:44):
He actually said to me, you need to calm down.
Speaker 12 (40:46):
Oh.
Speaker 7 (40:47):
I was like, okay, take a look at myself and
look how much I'm saving. I know honestly, honestly, it's yeah,
I and bought I haven't bought one.
Speaker 4 (40:58):
That's a lie. I bought something but I haven't received it. Yeah,
I'm very scared.
Speaker 3 (41:03):
Oh I didn't think you're the only thing being seasons
assisted around that website.
Speaker 1 (41:08):
Well yeah, true. And it arrives with three arm holes
or something like that on the top of your know why.
Speaker 3 (41:14):
It's like we'll be down a shady street and bangcock
and everyone going come into the shop.
Speaker 2 (41:18):
And you're like, yes, we've got into.
Speaker 9 (41:19):
All of them.
Speaker 8 (41:20):
Well yeah, there the hits that johnaan Ben podcast.
Speaker 1 (41:23):
They is definitial day A and Z helping the Cancer
Society to make every deafitial count with the an Z
donation station a big thing, a big initiative that our
the hits as part of today in the building with
a whole lot of other radio stations trying to have
a day of entertainment. You can listen to an iHeartRadio
and fun but also raising a whole lot of money
for the Cancer Society.
Speaker 3 (41:43):
Yeah, and Georgia Byrd, who actually hosts the day show
on z IN, one of our affiliate brands.
Speaker 2 (41:49):
Always wanted to say affiliate brands.
Speaker 3 (41:51):
Yeah, she she's gone through her own journey with cancer
and joins us in the studio now big day mate.
Speaker 20 (41:58):
Yeah, so this is this is why today is probably
going to be a bit up and down emotional wise.
I've been like preparing for it and like, get your
tears out early, girl. But nah, I a couple of
years ago, it was twenty twenty two, found out that
I had a thing called mixoid lipossycoma.
Speaker 15 (42:13):
So that's cancer of the fat.
Speaker 20 (42:14):
And I found it in my league through a seven
x three centimeter lump, which at the time, might I say,
was going hundies at the gym.
Speaker 15 (42:22):
So I was like, oh, it's just muscle build up.
Speaker 7 (42:26):
You spoke to me about this, You're like, I don't
know what this slump is, and she was like mega
fitzpo and like we just thought maybe it was like
a little like and grown.
Speaker 4 (42:35):
Here or like mo went through so many things and
in the end you win and got it checked out.
Speaker 8 (42:40):
Yeah.
Speaker 15 (42:40):
The only reason, and this is this is why I'm
a massive advocate.
Speaker 20 (42:43):
For I know a lot of people are now but
going and get things checked out, is because I waited
a we while being like, oh, he's a foam roller.
Speaker 11 (42:51):
Do not do that.
Speaker 15 (42:52):
Don't even do that.
Speaker 2 (42:53):
Why did you try to roll it out?
Speaker 12 (42:54):
Did you?
Speaker 4 (42:54):
Because I was like, maybe it's just like she was
jimming hard.
Speaker 15 (42:57):
Yeah, situation not like a I'm not a you know, Jimbo,
but whatever.
Speaker 20 (43:03):
But then I am about a month later, I thought
I popped a hernia, went to the doctor, got that checked.
That was me being dramatic because when I got referred
for an ultrasound, they did both that and my league
that came back as drama coin. The other one came
back as it shows up as bright white and an ultrasound.
Speaker 15 (43:22):
And then that was a Friday afternoon and they were
basically like, this doesn't look good.
Speaker 20 (43:27):
Monday, will have your GP, will get in touch with you,
and then we'll go further from the end.
Speaker 2 (43:31):
Oh dig what was that weekend?
Speaker 15 (43:32):
Like, yeah, let's just say a few a few wines
we had.
Speaker 20 (43:37):
But the Monday rolled around, I was actually at work
on here and I got the phone call from my
GP basically saying we're going to have to move this forward.
And within a week I had appointments, I had biopsies, everything.
Speaker 2 (43:47):
So it was, oh my gosh, it was full on.
Speaker 1 (43:49):
Because they talk about one in three New Zealanders, I
feel like everyone's got a story of you know, like
I personally affected or family affected and stuff like that.
But how is it when it's yourself like that that
phone call John I said that weekend where just and
at such a young age, you don't really expect this
to happen.
Speaker 9 (44:04):
It's weird.
Speaker 20 (44:05):
It's a weird transition as well, and a family dynamic
for you and your parents because everything you've done in
your life, your parents teach you right like they're the
ones leading you and guiding you. And in this situation,
I had to flip that and kind of say to
my parents and family and friends, this is how I
need you to be, because that's how I can be stronger.
(44:25):
People at work New obviously, but none of the listeners
did because I just needed that escape to talk about
anything but that because at home, I was probably in
my own thoughts.
Speaker 15 (44:34):
Twenty fourth seven, So what.
Speaker 4 (44:36):
Do you so you teach people how to treat you.
I remember you told me, and I was because we
thought you had like a bruise or something, and then
you told me we were at work, and I was like,
I didn't know what to say.
Speaker 15 (44:49):
Yeah, I know, I know.
Speaker 4 (44:50):
What's the best thing for people to do? When someone's like, hey,
I've got cancer.
Speaker 20 (44:55):
It's weird because there's this feeling that goes over you
when you know that when the moment you say thinking
about it, yeah, you know that people's faces are going
to drop. I just forget about it now, Like even
when I'm you know, wearing shorts or whatever, I forget
about the scar and someone be like, WHOA, what do
you do there? And I'm like, well, I'm about to
dampen the mood. And I usually lead with that because
(45:18):
then I'm like, but we're all good. I hate cancer
and blah blah blah. So it is it's a weird
situation to bring up because you do instantly get reactions
from people.
Speaker 2 (45:30):
Well, I'm a hell of a journey you went through
as well, and so everything's fine now. You're you're clear.
Speaker 20 (45:35):
We can't say that. So that's the interesting thing too.
Like I'm two years now, so i'm three monthly for
chick apps. Then it will go to four to six months.
But you can't say you're clear or cured until five years.
And that's because so with my specific cancer as cancer
of the fat, but it travels through the blood, so
if it was to go anywhere else, it could be
(45:56):
my lungs, that could be my kidney's or your main organs,
and ef it ose to those places and hopefully small
if that was to be the case, they'd catch it earlier.
Speaker 15 (46:05):
And then work on that.
Speaker 20 (46:07):
But if it was bigger, and this is why the
scans are important, then you're on the junior again.
Speaker 1 (46:13):
The Jan Ben podcast yesterday was it was a really
fun day. We've got a fun game we want to
play with you right now, John O that Megan and
I have just come up with.
Speaker 2 (46:21):
Yeah, here we go, what is it?
Speaker 3 (46:24):
Oh?
Speaker 1 (46:24):
Well, Las today, I want to play cook game. So
we've got some balloons left over from producing Taylor's Baby
show yesterday. I want to play cook game with you. John,
shut your eyes. I've got a balloon and Megan's got
a balloon. You've got to work out which one of
us is singing with the helium? Okay, okay, okay, so
you go, okay, so who's who's singing right now?
Speaker 9 (46:45):
Human set fair? Fun, be fun, it's a fun.
Speaker 4 (47:04):
Why do they go to cree?
Speaker 2 (47:09):
Do one more around or try and figure it out? Okay?
Speaker 14 (47:13):
Ho?
Speaker 9 (47:13):
What a push your baby?
Speaker 3 (47:15):
What's been even through the helium?
Speaker 2 (47:20):
I can hear the goofy laugh.
Speaker 9 (47:25):
You need to suck for it.
Speaker 1 (47:28):
It's gone, guys, it's gone.
Speaker 2 (47:33):
After you've been sucking healing you try and keep your
voice going.
Speaker 1 (47:35):
I know you just let a little bit longer now.
It's kind of always the game will never be.
Speaker 9 (47:45):
Is there a.
Speaker 2 (47:46):
Helium shortage right now?
Speaker 9 (47:51):
Again?
Speaker 2 (47:52):
That gets the keep keeps on giving the baby shower birthday.
Speaker 3 (47:56):
It was used today. So that's why do they make
heli so fun? If they're like, don't suck in helium,
well don't make it fun and enjoyable.
Speaker 4 (48:05):
That's what do you think about it? What is it
doing to you that it fixt your voice like that?
Speaker 9 (48:08):
Not good?
Speaker 1 (48:09):
No good, not recommend it, that's for sure.
Speaker 8 (48:11):
The hits that Jonaan Ben podcast, Ben's Who's Your Father?
Speaker 1 (48:16):
And his father, say, I want to know who's your father?
And thanks to Farmers, so we're giving away a Star
Wars pack. It includes happy socks, a Lego Millennium falcon,
and a lightsaber as well, valued at over two hundred
dollars each if the person can correctly identify who their
father is.
Speaker 2 (48:31):
Yes, we have Area on the phone. Good morning to you. Hello,
lovely to have you on Mariam. Yeah, how's the week
been for you?
Speaker 8 (48:41):
Oh?
Speaker 12 (48:41):
Pretty hectic?
Speaker 2 (48:42):
Busy? What are you running? Why are you so busy?
Speaker 12 (48:45):
I went with that to the Living Disabiladas and we're
currently planning our ten year celebration, so I'm all over
the place trying to film things and get celebration things happening.
Speaker 1 (48:53):
So rewarding job that you do, I'm sure, but probably
that's great pain for us to be calling you right
in the middle of this week.
Speaker 2 (49:00):
Is there anything we can do to help? We can
maybe send you some streamers for the ten year celebration.
Speaker 12 (49:05):
Hey, we would love that. We're doing a big photo
both for them, So yes, that would be amazing.
Speaker 1 (49:12):
You're gonna follow through on that's all right? That's put
a note down.
Speaker 9 (49:17):
Do you need to write to do that?
Speaker 3 (49:19):
So?
Speaker 1 (49:19):
John is going to get the streamers sort of over
the weekend.
Speaker 2 (49:21):
I won't lie.
Speaker 3 (49:22):
It's probably fifty fifty years the streamers will turn up around,
but I'll try and.
Speaker 1 (49:25):
Fight all of us.
Speaker 12 (49:26):
That that matter.
Speaker 18 (49:27):
That's right.
Speaker 1 (49:28):
The thought here, that the thought that Maria. Now, boy,
we've got you've got to correctly identify your dad and
a lineup of dad's what's your what's your father's name? Okay, Dash,
Dennis is going to be one of these three voices.
See if you can pick out correctly who he is.
Speaker 2 (49:41):
Here is the first one, I am your father. Here
is voice number two.
Speaker 8 (49:47):
I am your father.
Speaker 2 (49:48):
Here is voice number three.
Speaker 1 (49:50):
I am your father. Oh the last two sounded quite
similar to me, but hopefully did hopefully you know. Do
you need to hear any again?
Speaker 12 (49:57):
Can we go to and three again?
Speaker 2 (49:58):
Okay, certainly, here's number I am your father, and here's
number three.
Speaker 3 (50:02):
I am your father.
Speaker 12 (50:05):
I'm pretty sure it's number two.
Speaker 2 (50:07):
I'm going to lock in number two. Dennis. Will you
voice number two? Dennis? Were you were? Were you voice?
He's like, I can't remember? Will you voice number two?
The Dennis?
Speaker 14 (50:23):
I think so?
Speaker 1 (50:24):
I think so good enough for us. We're not sure either,
we think of it is the might be my father?
What a way to find out a comical farmer's promotion.
Speaker 2 (50:36):
Well, would you like to get the Star Wars price
back to the milkman or?
Speaker 1 (50:39):
Dennis us a lot of questions, but congratulations, you've got
yourself thanks to your daughter Maria, a Star Wars price
pack for Father's Day.
Speaker 12 (50:51):
So enjoy that it's on the building site. So I
appreciate them taking the time time for that quarter.
Speaker 2 (50:56):
Good on you. Well it's for herm anyways, probably going
to go to and so.
Speaker 1 (51:02):
I like what I understand. Dennis, your last name is
would you work in building? And your nickname is what wo?
Speaker 16 (51:08):
Or would.
Speaker 6 (51:10):
Un?
Speaker 2 (51:10):
Would hunker?
Speaker 9 (51:11):
Would?
Speaker 3 (51:12):
Yeah?
Speaker 2 (51:13):
Ye, you're right, the hunker?
Speaker 1 (51:14):
Would you?
Speaker 2 (51:15):
Jeez? You were only destined for one profession?
Speaker 9 (51:17):
Really?
Speaker 2 (51:17):

your dinners?

do try it.
Speaker 1 (51:50):
My great supporters of the show. We really do appreciate
having them on board, and they've.
Speaker 2 (51:55):
Got proud supporters. Would you say proud partners.
Speaker 1 (51:57):
It's not for me to say I'm proud that they're partners.
I don't know.
Speaker 3 (52:00):
I mean sometimes other shows are like proud partners, our
proud partners. We've never once been told to say proud partner.
Speaker 1 (52:06):
How proud they are. But we're proud to have them
on the show. And they're saying, do try it, and
we're singing people will try it our radio show and
we give a test for someone who doesn't necessarily listen
to the show. They've got to listen throughout the week
and then on a Friday we call them back and
thanks to Delma, they can split one thousand dollars if
they get all the questions correct and they get a
del Martie price back.
Speaker 2 (52:26):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (52:26):
So if you'd like to enter for next week, can
be a friend, family member, colleague, whatever, someone in your
life who doesn't listen to the show. I just head
to the hit stole code on in Zed. This week
it was Jimmy Who's joining us back on the phone.
Speaker 2 (52:38):
How are you, Jimmy, Hey, I'm very good. Thanks, you're good.
Speaker 3 (52:41):
Lovely to hear your tones again, Jimmy, and you nominated
your boss Shoe.
Speaker 9 (52:46):
Yes, and how's it?
Speaker 2 (52:48):
But how's it been without Joe here? How do you
think she's found found the show?
Speaker 12 (52:53):
Oh? I think she's really enjoyed it.
Speaker 9 (52:55):
Definitely enjoyed it.
Speaker 12 (52:56):
It's been good having the Hits on in the office day.
Speaker 2 (52:59):
Okay, now we'll bring We'll bring Joe in. Joe, welcome,
high and love of the show this week.
Speaker 1 (53:04):
What would you say?
Speaker 12 (53:06):
The Hi has been listening to everybody and great team
he's got there. The low has been anticipating all the
phone calls.
Speaker 1 (53:13):
Oh, yes, we've been calling you quite constantly. Sorry about that.
We'll be out of your life next week, don't you worry.
I mean, maybe you'll continue to listen, but we won't
be calling you, that's for sure.
Speaker 2 (53:22):
Okay, all right, now, it's the it's the moment of judgment,
Judgment day.
Speaker 8 (53:27):
Now.
Speaker 2 (53:28):
Five questions. They all pertained to something or some things
that went on over the last five days pertaining this
is really good.
Speaker 1 (53:37):
Okay. At any stage, you can phone a friend who's
already on the line for you and ask for her
thoughts on an answer. But I reckon you might do
all right with.
Speaker 2 (53:46):
These, Okay, Joe, it's all on you. Five from five,
you get the thousand, all right?
Speaker 1 (53:51):
Okay. Johano complained of sore legs and saw but checks.
What was he doing at three o'clock in the morning, spring, Yeah,
well known from one joke.
Speaker 3 (54:04):
Okay, just so you know, Joe, still a deep, deep,
deep pain inside my booty chicks, Okay, deep inside.
Speaker 1 (54:11):
Megan's husband Andrew complained of an eck something she was
doing before beard while brushing her teeth.
Speaker 8 (54:18):
What was that.
Speaker 1 (54:23):
Listening?
Speaker 2 (54:23):
Which is unusual? I saw you practicing it as we
were talking about it.
Speaker 1 (54:26):
It's a weird look.
Speaker 2 (54:27):
You know.
Speaker 1 (54:27):
I tried it this morning.
Speaker 4 (54:29):
I tried it and had to go.
Speaker 1 (54:30):
Actually, I didn't mind.
Speaker 4 (54:31):
Did you quite like it?
Speaker 1 (54:32):
I didn't mind.
Speaker 4 (54:32):
It takes away all the other senses.
Speaker 1 (54:35):
You're not looking at yourself in the mirror like Geez,
I looked tired. Okay. Third question, you're doing well. We
spoke to Matt on Thursday Show, who is blind. He
broke a world record for doing what.
Speaker 12 (54:47):
Soothing?
Speaker 9 (54:48):
Yeah, there we go.
Speaker 1 (54:50):
The biggest wave in the world.
Speaker 2 (54:51):
Yeah, but hesitation there.
Speaker 12 (54:52):
Joe, far more complicated than it was.
Speaker 1 (55:00):
And six three on No Okay, what did they make
Me do? This has been talking right now? What did
they make me do? When I called my dad this week?
What did I have to say?
Speaker 4 (55:11):
Yeah, to call him daddy?
Speaker 1 (55:13):
Yeah, it was very confused. And finally on Thursday show,
we almost had a winner in our game the Alpha
Quiz at seven forty five, and stead of West Side Story,
what did Jamie say?
Speaker 14 (55:27):
We send?
Speaker 2 (55:28):
Let's ever listen?
Speaker 4 (55:29):
Which popular musical was based on a modern day Romeo
and Juliet.
Speaker 11 (55:34):
Oh, what's them story?
Speaker 2 (55:35):
Yeah, we've got a thousand dollars
