and Z one of four to three dot com slash
snow So. As of midnight, close to thirty thousand acres
of land in Los Angeles were being affected by several fires.
More than one hundred thousand residents or under evacuation orders.
I know we have a bunch of friends in LA
who have had to evacuate.
Speaker 1 (00:30):
Five people have died.
Speaker 2 (00:32):
There is a total of five fires in LA right now,
and a new one broke out in the Hollywood Hills
last night. It is so bad that the National Guard
has been called in to help the La County firefighters
because there aren't enough of them to battle all of
these fires and they are spreading so quickly. The reason
that they're spreading this so quickly is because of high
wind GUS.
Speaker 1 (00:52):
One report said that there will win us up to.
Speaker 2 (00:54):
One hundred miles per hour, and the conditions are so dry,
so the fire is just catching really quick. There's also
reports of fire hydrants running out of water around the way.
Speaker 1 (01:04):
They've been running out of water, which is terrifying, so
so scary. Why can just use like the ocean, though,
I think I'm being an idiot, like there's is there
enough pressure.
Speaker 2 (01:14):
There's talk of like there's some runoff my canda that
apparently the state rejected.
Speaker 1 (01:18):
They didn't want it. It's a whole finger pointing on
right now.
Speaker 2 (01:22):
Yeah, absolutely, now, I know this is a terrible story.
Mister Rogers always said look for the helpers, so I do.
Speaker 1 (01:29):
Want to highlight some of the helpers in this city.
Speaker 2 (01:31):
Officials have worked with Airbnb to secure house for people
who have been displaced, which is really awesome. Planet fitness
gyms in LA that aren't impacted by the fires are
allowing people to shower and charge their phones and use
the bathroom and stuff like that. So there are like
some glimmers of hope in this story. But I mean,
it's just just check on your friends in.
Speaker 1 (01:50):
So College, yeah, if they're there.
Speaker 2 (01:52):
So, former President Jimmy Carter will be honored today with
a state funeral at Washington National Cathedral.
Speaker 1 (01:57):

Speaker 2 (01:59):
President will be trans to the cathedral this morning and
the funeral set to begin at ten am. There are
road closures and parking restrictions. Some metro routes are going
to be taking detours today as well, so make sure
you check on those things and just give yourselves some
extra time today if you're in that area. And DC
traffic congestion is obviously not great. It's actually among the
(02:20):
worst in the entire United States. There's a new study
that it's published this week. DC ranked ninth overall.
Speaker 1 (02:27):
Look at US. Okay, that's actually not as bad as
I thought I thought it.
Speaker 2 (02:31):
It's actually an improvement from its seventh place ranking in
twenty twenty three, So like getting a little better.
Speaker 1 (02:37):
Yeah, but still not great. People are moving though. I
also think too that the most government officials are going
back to work in twenty twenty five. True, yeah, yeah,
we're going to be back up baby parking at my
apartment when I get home on Mondays. But Tuesdays, I'm like.
Speaker 2 (02:50):
