Speaker 1 (00:00):
So I assume if you have any interest in this
sort of thing at all, you're aware that Will Smith
slapped Chris Rock on stage for Reels at the Oscar
last night. Matt about a joke that Chris Rock made
about his wife. I've always wondered about that. The whole like,
really get into people's personal lives, jokes that the Chris

(00:24):
Rocks and the Ricky Gervais of the world are willing
to make, and uh, you're just supposed to sit there
and smile, and if you don't just laugh along with it,
you're seen as like, not cool. Ah, You've said something
incredibly insulting that in any other setting I would say
f you and maybe even hit you. But in this setting,
for some reason, I'm just supposed to throw back my
head with laughter or I'm not a good sport. I've

(00:45):
always wondered about that. And occasionally you do have the
Hollywood star who sits there staring angrily, and they're usually
but they usually it seems to me get the bad
end of the pr on mat if you, like I said,
if you don't don't throw back your head with laughter
at something that in any other circumstance would be considered
out of bounds. You're you're just you're not cool somehow

(01:06):
Will Will Smith didn't take it. Well. So the reason
we're gonna play this unbleeped version is so, uh, I'm sorry,
We're gonna play the unbleeped first bleeped by us, not
bleeped by was it ABCBC? Had they just had long
blank spaces yet? Right, So I didn't have any intention
of watching the Oscars that was where it was on.
I was not gonna watch at all. I'd only seen

(01:27):
one of the movies and uh, and the show itself
I don't care about. But so that it's beyond that,
it's disgusting, it's repugnant. Those people, I hate them. And
last year nine million people watched, and I'll bet it
was less this year. But anyway, uh so our Twitter
feed amongst all of us on the show started to
blow up and I saw a little thing about that,

(01:49):
and Michael thought that it was fake, and I thought, yeah,
that sounds about right. And I could understand why anybody
thought it was fake who watched it on the actual
ABC telecast because the the where they killed the audio,
because of the F bombs and everything like that. We're
so long you couldn't tell what was going on in
real time. It was impossible to note what was going on.

(02:10):
And they do bits like that all the time, so
I would have thought it was a bit probably too.
But here's the audio. I don't know where this was captured,
but I know a number of people in Australia. We're
putting out the full audio because for some reason, they
didn't bleep it in Australia, I'm told. I'm told the
audio ran and unedited worldwide except for the United States,
really parting to the New York Times, Yeah, how does

(02:31):
that work? And why do you have any idea? Because
Janet Jackson showed her nipple twenty years ago? Is the
rest of the world years ago? Is the rest of
the world just that much more capable of dealing with
the occasional f bomb that might slip out on rewards show?
But we're so horrified that it will bring the nation
to its knees that we do. That's the assumption I made.

(02:53):
I don't know. It seemed odd to me too. Is
there anything else we need to set up visually for
anybody that hasn't heard this. Chris Rocks on stage making
his jokes. Will Smith's in the front row with his wife. Yeah,
Chris Rock was well back from the front of the stage.
Will Smith had to walk up a fair distance. I'm
sure Chris Rock thought it was going to be some
sort of bit when Will Smith approached the stage. Anyway,

(03:16):
let's listen to it then we can discuss Jada, I
Love You g I Jane two. Can't wait to see
it all right, as that was like, that was a
nice one. Okay, I'm out here, oh Richard, Oh wow, wow,

(03:42):
Will Smith just smacked this out of me name Wow, dude, Yeah,
it was a g I Jange keep my bus name.
I'm going to Okay, Okay, that was greatest night in

(04:11):
the history of television. Okay, okay, So, uh, Will Smith's
wife if you don't know this as uh some sort
of condition where her hair is super duper short, it's
a medical thing. It falls out, and um, not a

(04:31):
cool joke. I don't think. No, it's no, it's not
an appropriate joke. I mean, yeah, if somebody has a
physical infirmity, you don't make a happy, happy joke about it.
But Will Smith probably didn't need to walk up on
stage and hit him. Um. Probably wishes he hadn't. I

(04:53):
think if he'd had just gone with the yelling from
his seat, keep my wife's name out of here, having mouth,
I think he'd had the whole world on his side,
and he might have the whole world on his side anyway,
or even walked up on stage and delivered that pungent message, Um,
here's what a weirdo like me does. So after I
saw this last night, they did something. So I thought

(05:13):
Chris Rock was amazingly calm about a guy walking up
and punching him and then how he reacts. So I
did a little research. I thought, do either one of
these guys have scrappy backgrounds, because you never know, You
never have any idea if like somebody grew up like
in a super rich background and that this sort of
dust up would be completely unknown to him, or if
they grew up fighting their whole lives. And I couldn't

(05:34):
find much information on Will Smith it it certainly sounds
like he had a pretty middle class or more life.
Chris Rock, on the other hand, who grew up in
Brooklyn and then Bedford sty and got beat up at
school all the time. Apparently that is not the first
time by a long shot that anybody's walked up and
punched him, which would help, because I don't I did

(05:54):
not get punched a lot in my life. Some guy
walks up to me and punches me, I'd be like,
holy crap. Just to clarify, it was an open hand
slap either way, which you were assaulted physically assaulted. Oh yeah,
I know, but thank god. It's been a very, very
long time since I've been in a fight. But I
will tell you this, the adrenaline of being in a fight.

(06:14):
You can take that punch and you're fine. Then about
an hour later, when things calm down, you realize, man,
my jaw really hurts. And then by morning you can't
chew and you're eating soup and milkshakes for the next
four days
