“Kur’ân’da geçen; يَٓا اَيُّهَا الَّذ۪ينَ اٰمَـنُوا كُـتِبَ عَلَيْـكُمُ الصِّيَامُ كَمَا كُـتِبَ عَلَى الَّذ۪ينَ مِنْ قَـبْلِـكُمْ لَعَلَّـكُمْ تَـتَّـقُونَۙ “Ey inananlar! Sizden öncekilere farz kılındığı gibi (günahlardan) korunmanız için size de oruç farz kılındı.”2 ifadesi ve Peygamber Efendimiz’in (sallallâhu aleyhi ve sellem) bir hadisinde Hazreti Davud’un (aleyhisselâm) orucundan bahsetmesi3 önceki peygamberlerin getirdikleri ilâhî dinlerde de oruç ibadetinin bulunduğunun en açık delillerindendir. Rivayet edildiğine göre ilk oruç Hazreti Âdem ile başlamıştır. Hazreti Âdem, her ayın 13, 14 ve 15. günlerinde oruç tutmaktaydı. Süleyman Aleyhisselam’ın her ayın başında, ortasında ve sonunda oruçlu olduğu; Hazreti İbrahim’in de her aydan üç gün oruç tuttuğu rivayet edilir. Yine eski milletlerden Keltler, Meksikalılar, Perulular, Babilliler ve Asurlular’ın da oruca önem verdikleri bilinmektedir.”
