Speaker 1 (00:00):
Sorry, I don't know what to tell you. The F
word makes it funnier. It's one more thing.

Speaker 2 (00:04):
I'm strong and getty, one more thing.

Speaker 1 (00:07):
Before we get to that. I just downloaded the Gemini app.
I hadn't been using that for some reason. That's Google's
AI and they've poured hundreds of millions of dollars into
creating that thing. I mean, they're one of the big
big players, definitely. So I've been using Chat, GPT, Claude,
whoever's that one belongs to, Grock Claude is flitted out

(00:32):
of my mind. Microsoft, No GROC, which is obviously Elon's. Yeah,
look up what Claude is. And now I've got Gemini, Googles,
and I've got all four of them. Now h thropicthrop Yeah,
it was recommended to me by somebody because they liked
the font. It does have a very pleasing font. But
so I've been using all three of them. Then, like
if I have a question, I ask all three and

(00:54):
then I compare and contrast and it's kind of interesting
to do.

Speaker 2 (00:56):
And I just.

Speaker 1 (00:57):
Downloaded Gemini and said, hey, Gemini, I've been using Claude, Chat, GPT,
and GROC, and now I'm gonna include you in compare
and contrast, and it said, oh cool, welcome aboard. Here's
a rundown of the different styles we all have. And
then it gave me a like a table that said,
for different kinds of problems, who's best at it and
who's not in their conversational tone and blah blah blah.

Speaker 2 (01:19):
It's just so weird.

Speaker 3 (01:21):
Was it self serving or do you think it was
a fairly honest? Uh? Description?

Speaker 1 (01:25):
It seemed pretty honest. There was only one that was
There was only one that seems self serving, although it
could be true. It said, groc is two online.

Speaker 3 (01:33):
Okay, maybe interesting, but.

Speaker 1 (01:38):
Those other guys, those guys suck.

Speaker 3 (01:41):
You want to hang with losers, Go ahead, loser, You're
all right.

Speaker 1 (01:44):
Google saying something is too online is pretty funny. Anyway,
I'll try that out and see how that goes.

Speaker 3 (01:51):
Oh, you know what I need to do, although people
can do it from thoseselves, I suppose is I just
have the first three you mentioned, and I asked them
recommend maybe the twenty the twenty greatest books about liberty?
Did you get twenty most influential important books written about liberty?

Speaker 1 (02:09):
How much overlap was there in the answer pretty fair amount.

Speaker 3 (02:12):
But enough underlap, none lap? What's the opposite overlap? And
whatever the opposite of overlap was, there was enough to
be intriguing.

Speaker 1 (02:23):
Yeah. Man, it's so much better than just googling something.
If you're not doing that already, it's she's not even close.
Okay to the F word just makes it funny. I
know some of you are bothered by that. If you're
bothered by F bombs, then you're not going to want
to listen to this. This is from The Daily Show
Monday night on Comedy Central. John Stewart does it once
a week. He's a guy that made the Daily Show famous.

(02:43):
He retired because his wife said it was time to
do her thing now and they took care of lost
dogs or something there, cats or something decade and then
he went back to work one night a week.

Speaker 2 (02:57):
Now.

Speaker 1 (02:57):
I remember back in the day, they would bleep him
when I to watch him all the time. What changed
to where they don't bleep him anymore? Do you know.

Speaker 3 (03:06):
It's an exclusively cable now streaming.

Speaker 1 (03:08):
My sense is this my senses? They just started pushing
it with S bombs and then nobody said anything, and
then the occasion left bomb nobody said anything, and then
they just decided nothing happens. Yeah, I've noticed on a
couple of the shows on Fox they let the S
bombs slip quite a few times. Yeah, I think you
just tried out. I mean, we've done that sort of
thing before. Nothing nobody says anything. So you think, okay,

(03:30):
big Fox podcast fun. Yeah, yes, bombs, S bombs, and
probably not in prime time, but like safe Harbor or
whatever that's called after nine o'clock. Yeah, come on after
nine o'clock at night. You got a crime show and
the cop can't drop an S bomb. That's ridiculous. It
makes sense.

Speaker 3 (03:49):
I'd appreciate you give a heave ho of the sailor
talk neighbor, you know.

Speaker 1 (03:53):
Okay. So John Stewart was very very upset that the
Democrats had caved. What's I like about this? As he's
beaten up on Democrats because he's always beaten up on
Republicans right and Trump.

Speaker 3 (04:03):
Look for quote unquote caving. I'm intrigued.

Speaker 1 (04:06):
Yeah, the caving wasn't the problem.

Speaker 3 (04:08):
That the problem was the damn shutdown.

Speaker 1 (04:10):
He is outraged that they caved. He thought they had
the leverage and blah blah blah, Anyway, here's how it sounded.

Speaker 2 (04:14):
Any deal must secure the extension of the ACA tax credits.

Speaker 1 (04:19):
This is about my party saying enough is enough.

Speaker 3 (04:22):
Democrats will not back down, do not stop fighting.

Speaker 2 (04:26):
We're in this fight until we win this fight.

Speaker 3 (04:28):
Because we know we're on the right.

Speaker 2 (04:29):
Side of this fight. It's literally life or death.

Speaker 4 (04:32):
So Democrats have three words for this no way.

Speaker 2 (04:42):
Well funny thing story.

Speaker 5 (04:55):
Yes, Charles Schumer's three words were no match for these.

Speaker 2 (05:00):
Five other words.

Speaker 5 (05:03):
Democrats cave on the shutdown.

Speaker 2 (05:06):
Excuse me, cave on the shutdown.

Speaker 5 (05:12):
Not this forceful, young, authentic Democratic party that hangs out
down by the river and curses in what appears to
be a Cyrillian blue blazer.

Speaker 4 (05:32):
And I say, Democrats, you gave up the only leverage
you had without getting commitments from Trump or Mike Johnson.

Speaker 2 (05:48):
I cannot thing believe it.

Speaker 5 (05:55):
Surely someone in the party understands that offering of vote
in the Senate without a commitment that it would pass
or that the House would even take it up is
an empty offer.

Speaker 3 (06:09):
Offering a vote in the Senate without a commitment that
it would pass, without a commitment that the House would
even take it up an is an empty offer.

Speaker 5 (06:21):
This guy gets it, Tim Kaine, Tim Caine, you don't
see him as one of the eight voting yes.

Speaker 3 (06:31):
Virginia Senator Tim Kaine with a yes.

Speaker 5 (06:40):
And for what?

Speaker 2 (06:42):
So?

Speaker 1 (06:43):
First of all, the version I watch, I don't know
where you got your answered. The version I watched had
the F bombs in it, so I thought it was
going to be the F bombs, but they weren't bleeping.
The outrage seems to be from the John Stuart crowd
and some others, is that they got nothing for it.

Speaker 3 (07:01):
John, they had no leverage.

Speaker 1 (07:03):
You don't think that there's no way.

Speaker 3 (07:04):
To get those promises.

Speaker 1 (07:06):
Yeah, I don't know. It's possible some better negotiators could
have somehow gotten something or made it look like you
got something because they got nothing. By the pain they
would have had to have caused, Yeah, would have been
the sort of gamble that could have ended the Democratic
Party forever. But Trump was out there saying, we are
losing this shutdown. We got to open it back up.

(07:28):
I think you could have said, we just need to
guarantee you'll bring the Obamacare to a vote, because I think,
as John Stewart's about to point out, they did not
get a guarantee of any kind anyway. Here's another clip
from the Daily Show.

Speaker 5 (07:38):
No, theytin caved on the shutdown, not even, not even
a full week removed from the best election night results
they've had in years. Seven Democratic senators and then voted
were their Republican counterparts to end the shutdown and reopen

(08:00):
in the government. And did they get their extended healthcare subsidies?
Democrats wanted the deal to include extending subsidies for the
Affordable Care Act. Instead, they got a promise to vote
on it at a later date.

Speaker 2 (08:13):
I cannot be lad you had the wind at your back.

Speaker 5 (08:22):
Election victories all over the country. The new Sydney Sweeney
movie box office Pupkuss apparently her new MAGA fan base
didn't show up in droves to see a biopic about
a lesbian professional boxer who overcomes domestic violence Deliver Truth.

Speaker 2 (08:40):
Who could have seen that company?

Speaker 5 (08:45):
Democrats, you sold out the entire shutdown, not to get
what you wanted, but for a promise to not get
what you wanted later.

Speaker 2 (08:58):
Where in the art of war? Where hold on? Where?
Where in the art? Okay? I got it?

Speaker 5 (09:11):
Sung Sue said, Never press your advantage.

Speaker 2 (09:16):
It's unseemly. Fighting's hard, how about a snack?

Speaker 1 (09:33):
While I disagree with him, his delivery is yes, he's
the best of that ever. But the fact that that crowd,
I guarantee you that Chuck Schumer or his aides or
whatever were aware of John Stewart's performance on Monday night
and thinking that's a problem for us.

Speaker 2 (09:48):
Oh yeah.

Speaker 1 (09:49):
They painted themselves into a corner and had to ask
for help getting out. It's humiliating. And the crowd that
likes John Stewart, which is a lot of progressive voters,
see it that way, or at least John Stuart's trying
to convince him to see it that way.

Speaker 3 (10:03):
Sure, yeah, yeah, yeah, he was just wrong on every
single factual assertion he made or you know, yeah, Trump said, yeah,
we got to wrap this up. But Trump needs to
stay off social media mostly. I don't know.

Speaker 1 (10:19):
I don't know what I would have done. I probably would.
You wouldn't have done the shutdown in the first place.
But if you end up with John Stewart lambasting you
that way in your own party, you have definitely not
achieved anything. You've only taken steps backwards, right, Yeah, I
would say.

Speaker 3 (10:33):
So, although you know, to prove my point. It's not proof,
but it's pretty compelling. I think the Democrats, with the
alleged wind at their sales after the elections and everything
and better messaging and the media on their side, we're
getting nothing. And the pain was really really starting to mount.

(10:54):
And so a bunch of them, none of whom is
up for election next year, got together with the full
permission of a bunch of other Democrats, and said, we
got to pull the rip cord on this thing. They
I didn't convince them that they were in a terrible
suicidal position. They convinced themselves of that.

Speaker 1 (11:13):
Yeah. And the uh yeah, I think that John Stewart
knows better. Okay, all right, I think the part that
he's missing is I talked about this the other day
on the radio show, that the Senators get to act independently.
It's not like the House where you kind of have
to fall in line or you'll never get a committee
and you'll get primaried in six months because you have
an election every two months and that sort of stuff.

Speaker 3 (11:34):
Senators do boiler room inside the boiler.

Speaker 1 (11:38):
Senators do whatever the hell they want. And you know,
a handful of them got together and said let's let's
just end this, and they don't care what Chuck Schumer's
saying to him. They don't care at all. They'll still
be in the Senate when he's gone, right, that's the
difference anyway.

Speaker 3 (11:54):
Well, I guess that's efinit

The Burden

The Burden

The Burden is a documentary series that takes listeners into the hidden places where justice is done (and undone). It dives deep into the lives of heroes and villains. And it focuses a spotlight on those who triumph even when the odds are against them. Season 5 - The Burden: Death & Deceit in Alliance On April Fools Day 1999, 26-year-old Yvonne Layne was found murdered in her Alliance, Ohio home. David Thorne, her ex-boyfriend and father of one of her children, was instantly a suspect. Another young man admitted to the murder, and David breathed a sigh of relief, until the confessed murderer fingered David; “He paid me to do it.” David was sentenced to life without parole. Two decades later, Pulitzer winner and podcast host, Maggie Freleng (Bone Valley Season 3: Graves County, Wrongful Conviction, Suave) launched a “live” investigation into David's conviction alongside Jason Baldwin (himself wrongfully convicted as a member of the West Memphis Three). Maggie had come to believe that the entire investigation of David was botched by the tiny local police department, or worse, covered up the real killer. Was Maggie correct? Was David’s claim of innocence credible? In Death and Deceit in Alliance, Maggie recounts the case that launched her career, and ultimately, “broke” her.” The results will shock the listener and reduce Maggie to tears and self-doubt. This is not your typical wrongful conviction story. In fact, it turns the genre on its head. It asks the question: What if our champions are foolish? Season 4 - The Burden: Get the Money and Run “Trying to murder my father, this was the thing that put me on the path.” That’s Joe Loya and that path was bank robbery. Bank, bank, bank, bank, bank. In season 4 of The Burden: Get the Money and Run, we hear from Joe who was once the most prolific bank robber in Southern California, and beyond. He used disguises, body doubles, proxies. He leaped over counters, grabbed the money and ran. Even as the FBI was closing in. It was a showdown between a daring bank robber, and a patient FBI agent. Joe was no ordinary bank robber. He was bright, articulate, charismatic, and driven by a dark rage that he summoned up at will. In seven episodes, Joe tells all: the what, the how… and the why. Including why he tried to murder his father. Season 3 - The Burden: Avenger Miriam Lewin is one of Argentina’s leading journalists today. At 19 years old, she was kidnapped off the streets of Buenos Aires for her political activism and thrown into a concentration camp. Thousands of her fellow inmates were executed, tossed alive from a cargo plane into the ocean. Miriam, along with a handful of others, will survive the camp. Then as a journalist, she will wage a decades long campaign to bring her tormentors to justice. Avenger is about one woman’s triumphant battle against unbelievable odds to survive torture, claim justice for the crimes done against her and others like her, and change the future of her country. Season 2 - The Burden: Empire on Blood Empire on Blood is set in the Bronx, NY, in the early 90s, when two young drug dealers ruled an intersection known as “The Corner on Blood.” The boss, Calvin Buari, lived large. He and a protege swore they would build an empire on blood. Then the relationship frayed and the protege accused Calvin of a double homicide which he claimed he didn’t do. But did he? Award-winning journalist Steve Fishman spent seven years to answer that question. This is the story of one man’s last chance to overturn his life sentence. He may prevail, but someone’s gotta pay. The Burden: Empire on Blood is the director’s cut of the true crime classic which reached #1 on the charts when it was first released half a dozen years ago. Season 1 - The Burden In the 1990s, Detective Louis N. Scarcella was legendary. In a city overrun by violent crime, he cracked the toughest cases and put away the worst criminals. “The Hulk” was his nickname. Then the story changed. Scarcella ran into a group of convicted murderers who all say they are innocent. They turned themselves into jailhouse-lawyers and in prison founded a lway firm. When they realized Scarcella helped put many of them away, they set their sights on taking him down. And with the help of a NY Times reporter they have a chance. For years, Scarcella insisted he did nothing wrong. But that’s all he’d say. Until we tracked Scarcella to a sauna in a Russian bathhouse, where he started to talk..and talk and talk. “The guilty have gone free,” he whispered. And then agreed to take us into the belly of the beast. Welcome to The Burden.
