Speaker 1 (00:06):
You're listening to the Sports Talk podcast with Dancy Wilder
Grave from News Talks.

Speaker 2 (00:13):
Yeah, exactly like you said, we've got a chance, Like
we've got ourselves in a spot where we can go
to Canberra on Saturday night and compete for a chance
to in in another week.

Speaker 3 (00:23):
How well is your preparation gone when you look at
what you're built up to You satisfied enough of what
your blokes are put down?

Speaker 4 (00:30):
Yeah, I think so.

Speaker 2 (00:30):
I think we've got real confidence on our game from
the last month or so of rugby. I think, yeah,
we've got to a point where we trust our game
and we understand who we are as a team.

Speaker 3 (00:41):
So who are you as a team? You started it,
I'm going to finish it?

Speaker 4 (00:45):
Yeah, I think so.

Speaker 2 (00:47):
For us, it's about doing what we do well, Controlling
I guess, controlling position, playing in the right parts of
the field, and I mean you saw that drew a game,
give lethal outside some good ball, letting go to work.

Speaker 3 (01:01):
So you taking on a Brumby's team that you know
they've been there long in the tooth, they know what
they're doing. They are at home as well, which presents
some issues expectations behind what they bring on presuming they're
going to bash up front and grind.

Speaker 4 (01:15):
Yeah, it's a really good Brumbies team.

Speaker 2 (01:17):
And then they've earned that Thod spot on the ladder
and the chance they have a home quarter, so we know,
like you look at I guess the way they're team
like this set piece is always really strong, and then
they've got some really dangerous outside backs, so they've got
threats right across the field.

Speaker 3 (01:32):
What have you been working through this week as far
as preparation? Many changes do you think from the coaching staff?

Speaker 4 (01:37):
Sam?

Speaker 2 (01:37):
No, not not too much at all. Relief Like, for us,
it's about what we can control finals. For you, there's
obviously going to be but more pressure involved, probably a
few more type moments. So for us it's been about
keeping cool heads and just doing our jobs.

Speaker 3 (01:51):
Got a reasonably an experienced side when it comes to
pressure moments like this. How do you think some of
the young fellows will stand up to this? Like, how
do you prepare them for a knockout finals game?

Speaker 4 (02:00):
Yeah, I mean it's a real test of character.

Speaker 2 (02:03):
So we've definitely got guys that have been there before
of real Will Cup final and they've been really valuable
throughout this week.

Speaker 4 (02:10):
So for the A lot of the guys probably is new,
but no, they'll be right.

Speaker 3 (02:16):
I'm really interested in how Router, as you say succinctly
call him, manages the captain's ye role. He's a quiet bloke.
He hardly shouts and screams that you guys does he
when he's out on the park.

Speaker 2 (02:26):
I know he's got he's pretty cashionate, so he's he's
got some pretty good going I guess getting the boys
where they need to be. And yeah, as you say,
he just leads on the front, he'll go forward and
the boys will following.

Speaker 3 (02:40):
Makes perfect sense when you log at the competition full stop.
You beat the Crusaders. That's got to be one of
the highlights of the season. What are the big lessons
from that fixture that victory?

Speaker 2 (02:50):
Yeah, I think you look at that game in terms of, uh,
like we had a good start and then good pressure,
but we sort of not set up camp in the
second half, probably failed to play with the rugby and
let them back into the game. And we're on defense
a lot there, So I think for it's about keep
playing our game keeper, I guess, not going into our

(03:12):
shelves or webit And yeah, like having a web with
faith in how we play our rugby.

Speaker 3 (03:17):
Improvement from last season? Where do you think, mostly Sam Gilbert,
this team have picked up.

Speaker 4 (03:23):
I think there's been games right across the board.

Speaker 2 (03:26):
We've won a few of the tight games that potentially
didn't go away last week last year. Sorry. And also
we've probably put a couple of games away whereas potentially
last year we were still in the fight those games
in the last ten or fifteen minutes.

Speaker 3 (03:40):
Is that attitude, fitness? Where does that come from?

Speaker 4 (03:43):
Do you think?

Speaker 2 (03:45):
I think we're with everything execution as well, execution, game upstanding,
just all the little things that come in, particularly the
last twenty minutes of games.

Speaker 3 (03:55):
This season, you've had fun against the Crusaders, not so
the other New Zealand based franchises. Why do you think
that is and what can you take out of that
to apply to this Brumbies match seam.

Speaker 2 (04:05):
Yeah, I think we're probably those a few of those
games just lit on a few easy sit piece tries
or potentially like counter attacks or the long range tries.

Speaker 4 (04:16):
So for us, it's gonna be about that.

Speaker 2 (04:17):
Like I said earlier, the Brumby's got a really go
back three and they can score some pretty outstanding tries
if you give them time and space.

Speaker 3 (04:23):
There must be a part of the side after all
of the calls in the last few years. You know
he's at the bottom. What are they doing here that
you've actually now qualified for the ap to go? You
know what, we've got it and right back at it?
Is that an attitude around you guys are a bit
too humble for that.

Speaker 2 (04:36):
I think, like we believe we've this opportunity. So for us,
it's about yeah, believing in ourselves, so believing that we're
good enough to go over there and do a job.

Speaker 3 (04:47):
You've had a massive like your fan base, Like most
Super Rugby teams, it's climbed. The game against the Sader
is you've got to be stoked with that. People turning
up to Super Rugby again must be must be massive
for you guys to actually play in front of a
decent crowd.

Speaker 4 (04:59):
Yeah, one hundred percent.

Speaker 2 (05:00):
Like that Crusader's game, that crowd was awesome, and all
other home games have been awesome, Like just to see
the turning up, telling the stands, the atmosphere has just
been awesome.

Speaker 3 (05:10):
What about yourself, Saim, Are you happy enough with what
you'll provided out there? Or where are your areas to lift?

Speaker 4 (05:15):
Do you think?

Speaker 2 (05:16):
Yeah, I think for me it's just I guess getting
my hands on the ball and influence in the game
as much as I can, So hopefully I can do
that on Saturday night.

Speaker 3 (05:25):
You've been around the tracks for a while, man, haven't
you You only in your mid twenties. Do you see
yourself as a as a senior campaigner in this site?

Speaker 4 (05:31):
Yeah, I'm definitely.

Speaker 2 (05:32):
Some of the young boys make me feel a way
bit older. I definitely want class myself as senior. I think, yeah,
it's just I guess helping out where I can with.

Speaker 4 (05:42):
A weaver of that experience stuff.

Speaker 2 (05:43):
But now I think I've definitely got a few years
before I call myself experience or senior.

Speaker 3 (05:49):
Billy Harmon, he's so in his last campaign mean a
lot to you guys as far as motivation.

Speaker 2 (05:54):
Yeah, Bill's a Bill's a skipper co captain and like
he'll lead from the front, so you know that he's
going to give it one hundred and ten percent and
everyone will follow him.

Speaker 3 (06:04):
Normally for a hunt of his team going to you go,
we can deal with the weather.

Speaker 4 (06:07):
We know what it's like.

Speaker 3 (06:08):
You've been playing under a roof. It's going to freak
you out a weave it or not?

Speaker 4 (06:12):
No, not too bad.

Speaker 2 (06:13):
I mean we've played we had some pretty interesting games
played in the and the win last week and Wellies,
so I think we're pretty compared for whatever Canberra throws
at us.

Speaker 3 (06:23):
Excellent, what do you do? Chuck it back, Sam Gilbert,
thanks very much for your time. You go well, quarterfinal
match coming up. Semi finals are there for the taking, mate,
get in there and pinch it.

Speaker 4 (06:33):
Thank you very much. Pre sure it.
