Speaker 1 (00:06):
You're listening to the Sports Talk podcast with Darcy Waldergrave
from News Talk ZEDB.

Speaker 2 (00:32):
All right, here we go sports Talk for another evening.
My name is Arsie Waldergrave. Welcome into the chaos. Six
minutes after seven of lis It's a Thursday Night, eleven
July twenty twenty four. Lined up for you tonight, rugby
and punching. Andre Mikaylovich joins us later on in the

(00:52):
Peace Prony Ceiling boxer. He's got a double strap scrap
on Thursday.

Speaker 3 (00:58):
On Thursday.

Speaker 2 (00:59):
On Sunday afternoon, you've been done by Now IBFNWO World
Middleweight Championship fight in Las Vegas. We'll talk to him
about his preparation, his attitude, his desire, his wants.

Speaker 3 (01:13):
The list goes on.

Speaker 2 (01:14):
He will join us Andre Michalabe's toward the end of
the program from Las Vegas. We kick things off with
Dalton Papalei all Black flanker. Caught up them today at
team naming it the All Blacks, cornered him, approached him
with my microphone and the rest is history. Find out
the results shortly about the side that was named today.

(01:35):
What is going to be different when it comes to
the attack and the defense up against the English side
in that second test at Eden Park. Also ask him
a bit about Razors management style on how that's sitting
with the crew. Dalton PAPALEI you coming up soon and
after that will take your call. So one hundred and
eighty ten to eighty initial reaction, although you've had a

(01:57):
good eight hours now, an initial reaction to that all
black side that was named today, and I suppose the
question around the only change Finley Christy, is he up
to all black standard? I'd suggest he is. You may
think differently. Let us know our eight hundred and eighty
ten eighty three phone number nationwide.

Speaker 3 (02:17):
But before we.

Speaker 2 (02:17):
Do that, let's do this sport today, and in sport today,
it's coming home. I'm not actually entirely sure that the
Honore Dolinee Cup ever called England home, although the current
version was made in Britain by Asbury, so you could
say it's coming home right at a script anyway, the

(02:38):
English are a step closer after beating the Netherlands for
a place in the final score of the ninetieth minute goal.

Speaker 3 (02:44):
Olie Watkins talks us through that moment. I swear on
my life, my kid's life. I said to Cole Palmer,
we're coming on today and you're gonna set me up.
I knew as soon as he got the wall he's
gonna play me and you got to be greedy, touch
and finish.

Speaker 2 (02:58):
And when I've seen it go in the bottom corner, ah,
it's the best beating absolute Corker. All Black coach Scott
Robinson told the media today. The advice he gave you
to brand spanking new halfback Cortiz.

Speaker 3 (03:10):
Just trust yourself, be yourself.

Speaker 4 (03:11):
It's a good kid, extremely competitive, he likes to win everything.
Once he'd been named, just got on with it. And
you know he's got a pretty good couple of mentors
in front of him that he can learn off and
knows his opportunity.

Speaker 2 (03:24):
Big night for Courtiers. English coach. This is on the
other side of the coin, Steve Borthwick. It's hoping the
success of England's euro side bodes well for this weekend's
second crack at the All Blacks.

Speaker 5 (03:38):
There's a lot of noise and excitement in our team
in this morning, all the players starving breakfast together, watching
watching the football team. It's a great result, fantastic performance
and hopefully this weekend there's another great weekend for English sport.

Speaker 2 (03:50):
Well mate, last weekend was a great weekend for English sport.
Sir Lewis Hamilton won at Silverston.

Speaker 3 (03:56):
It was awesome.

Speaker 2 (03:58):
That's enough for you know more. And David Niker has
spoken of a style class for her its upcoming scrap
against the Aussie left hand. His method is this c
boxer hit boxer easy.

Speaker 6 (04:12):
I'm capable to boxes of Southport or an orthodox. It's
just Southwests hate fighting other Southwalls. What's worse than fighting
another Southpaw is an unorthodox Southport. It's just another trick
up my sleeve. But I'll just do whatever makes sense
on the night.

Speaker 2 (04:24):
Which is confusing because boxes don't have sleeves.

Speaker 3 (04:29):
And that's sport today.

Speaker 2 (04:32):
I rolled along to all black media session today and
managed to get a hold of one Dulton Popaly have
we talked about last week about this week? The team
naming and the likes lovely human being great to catch up.

Speaker 3 (04:48):
This is the result.

Speaker 1 (04:49):
No need for the DMO. We've got the breakdown on
sports Talk News Talks.

Speaker 2 (04:58):
I'll join our news talks e B by Dulton Poppae
ahead of what well They're all keep test matches, aren't
they You can't say this is a key because they
all are.

Speaker 7 (05:06):
Yeah, yeah, one hundred percent. You heard Test match footy
is there's always up there with some of the most
physical games you play. So Test Match coming up against
England and they're going to really throw the kitchen sink
at us, so looking forward to it.

Speaker 2 (05:16):
Yeah, they'll be filthy too. At one point lost, they'll
be going, what did we do? We had that but
they didn't, So how do they suppose focus that rage?
You've been in the same position, what would you do?

Speaker 7 (05:27):
I just try to, you know, try breakdown the game
were we went wrong and try fixing those areas. But
at the end of the day, you know it was
a tight game, and you know a few calls could
have gone their way, but I would have I would
really break down the game and see we are areas
where we can probably just fix up a little bit.
And I think they're for me personally. I think they
were going to come at the breakdown a little bit
harder than usual, so it's going to be a pretty

(05:49):
pretty tough fight there.

Speaker 2 (05:50):
So it came pretty hard as it is. Do you
think they were battoning off all you but don't. I
think they looked like they really knew what they were doing.

Speaker 7 (05:57):
Yeah, I think, like I said before, it could have
gone either way, and the breakdown was physical and their
forwards really tested us. And it's a good thing because
you know, it's our first test together, you know, new players, whole,
new management. So I think we I think we were
expecting it. But you know, we even said in our
review that the second test match is always a bit

(06:18):
harder because you know, you sort of the first game
you get a feeling for each other, and now the
second game that we can really you know, sort of
pick at the areas where they think it's a bit
of a struggle for us. But at the end of
the day, looking forward to it and I want to
see the areas there we can improve. And so yeah, well.

Speaker 2 (06:36):
The Irish rolled the all Blacks and the second test
the Lines did a few years ago as well. So
the second test is an area of vulnerability because you
both tested each other out, you know, your whole. So
let's look at your own game. Where do you think
you have what's razor? Jason and the Light.

Speaker 7 (06:50):
Told you no, it's just the bound around our game
making sure we get boys in the road positions because
you know, like I said, it's a whole new game
plan that we we're adjusting to. And I think in
that in their first game against England, there was some
boys out of position and all that, but I think
we still get in clarity of where we are. But
I think the boys are pretty confident where we should
be on the field and putting the ball in the

(07:10):
right spot. So the good thing is we have guys
that you know, our attack leaders, a body Bear d
Mac you know, Jordie Barrett and all that leading the
big boys and the forwards around the paddock, and their
communication is key and I think their top class in
that area and that's just sort of helps us. So
when those boys are firing, I think the whole team
is Dalton.

Speaker 3 (07:30):
How do you reckon that?

Speaker 2 (07:31):
You, Lucy said as far as setting platforms when it
came to Damien mckinn's and do you think you gave
him enough room? Are you happy in that space or
could there be more?

Speaker 7 (07:40):
It can always be more, you know, like some areas
where we think we're a bit a bit slow and
where we get improven, but then sometimes if we get
the other the good stuff you were doing and you
sort of go away from it. So it's just trying
to board a ball to consistent level around all those
areas and making sure we're finishing in those areas. That's
a big key thing that Razer always talks about as

(08:00):
finishing everything you do and doing it well. So it's
just making sure the areas where you know we are
working on, where we're making sure we're getting better, and
that's that's by doing the trainings and getting our trademarks.

Speaker 2 (08:12):
And you start for Findley, even though it's terrible that
TJ went down and screaming, he where's your Your old
mate from the Blues.

Speaker 3 (08:18):
Has got the run. He's starting, So that's got to put.

Speaker 2 (08:21):
Fire in your belly, all the other Blues bellies and
of course him as well.

Speaker 7 (08:24):
Yeah, one hundred percent, and you know, I think TJ.
You know, it was a big loss losing him, But
that's the curse of the game. You know, there's always
going to be injuries.

Speaker 3 (08:30):
And sorry, curse, curse, mate, that's.

Speaker 7 (08:34):
A curse of the game. You know, you don't want
to have injuries, you know, yeah, you don't have injuries,
but it's a shit thing. But they always, they always
happens and you know, I've had my fair share, but
Finley coming up. You know, he's a bloody good player,
and he's a bit of a pest on the field
and off field as well. So in your design one
hundred percent. They talk a lot of ship, but that's
good ship. And the good one thing with Finley is

(08:55):
that you know he's he has that he has that
mindset that he always wants to bring the best out
of everyone. And and he when he nails his detail
and makes everyone around him better.

Speaker 3 (09:05):
So has talked his top key.

Speaker 7 (09:07):
You know, he makes sure boys are in the right position,
but you know, telling him to get around the corner
or to stay or he's filling in. So he's an
awesome player, and I'm glad that there's a chance to
go out there and show what he's got.

Speaker 3 (09:18):
Dotton Papaleti joins us.

Speaker 2 (09:19):
Great that they've stuck a Sentsia with exactly the same
team you only change out of injury. That's got to
give you guys, some faith and some strength that Razer
knows what he wants and you guys can only but
learn from that last experience.

Speaker 3 (09:30):
There's nothing changed. That's got to be good.

Speaker 7 (09:32):
Yeah, And it's it's just boarding those new relationships with
the players. You know, we've all come from our own
superfranchises and we all have different systems there. So it's
coming into this environment, learning the game plan, and it's
just boilding that.

Speaker 3 (09:44):
Well, what's the word of synergy?

Speaker 7 (09:45):
You've been boarding a bit of synergy between each other,
and that's that's the key and the first game. You know,
I think you can see we're a bit rough in
some areas, but now we sort of know what they
expect of us, the coaches, and we can we now
go out there and trust one another, trust one another
and do our job.

Speaker 3 (10:01):
So you well, there's a.

Speaker 2 (10:02):
Coaching synergy too, isn't there between yourself? As you mentioned,
brand new coaching staff. Essentially they're trying to work themselves
out there, trying to work you out and vice versa.
So a couple of weeks in camp, now is that
starting to not necessarily smooth, but he's starting to feel
that that biting.

Speaker 7 (10:18):
Yeah, I definitely do, and I know a lot of
the boys have been talking about how we definitely feel
it like everything's building, you know, like fresh start. It's
always hard to get a gauge that we're at but
I think see the second week coming into here sort
of have the same you know, routines in place now
and we're getting we're getting pretty confident in this area.
So were the first time I came in. You know,

(10:39):
there was a bit of clutter, you know, a lot
of a lot of the coaches pushing this stuff. But
it's getting easier now because you're getting used to the terminology,
the structures and what they expect of you individually and
as a team.

Speaker 2 (10:49):
So it's good Razor as loose as he is in
training is in real life.

Speaker 3 (10:54):
Is he's quite something else, isn't he?

Speaker 7 (10:55):
I can't tell you that secret man? Come on, bro, No,
he's awesome, very easy. He adds a different personality to
the coaching stuff. You know, he comes in and he's himself.
That's a good thing he does and hide behind you know,
a mask or he eases himself and that's a good thing.
And you know he can be serious at times, but
he can also knows you're going to have a laugh,
and that's probably what you want out of a coach,

(11:17):
you know, to can't be full steam ahead code all
the time. And we come in here, we get the
work done, but you can also have a little joke
with him on the side, and that's what players, you know,
sort of respect and like.

Speaker 2 (11:28):
So I think that's a sort of vern kind of
they call him Stanton Vern, but he's also like mirthful Vern.

Speaker 3 (11:32):
He keeps on reimpressing to me how much joy.

Speaker 2 (11:34):
Is important part of the game. So that Chige and
on that and the Blues you're playing at home. No pressure, mate,
it's going to be thirty years since the All Blacks last.

Speaker 3 (11:41):
Role you carry that do you ignore it?

Speaker 2 (11:43):
How do you deal with that kind of pressure being
at home, being at home ground your last place.

Speaker 7 (11:48):
You know, the tri this is my home and even
for the Blues, you know it just means it means
a little bit more when you play at home.

Speaker 3 (11:54):
This is your fortress.

Speaker 7 (11:55):
But for the All Blacks, you know, that's that's a
legacy created by you know, the past players as well.
So you do carry a bit of weight there, but
at the end of the day, this is this is
just forty man. You put your best foot forward, you
always do in this in the Black jersey, and you
want to keep it a fortress. So that's always going
to be our goal in the back of our mind.

Speaker 2 (12:15):
Just don't use the word curse around all blacks. Dalton Papally,
You're always good to catch up my friends. You go
well get in the end cause of ruckers.

Speaker 3 (12:24):
Make no cheers made.

Speaker 7 (12:25):
Always appreciate with.

Speaker 8 (12:25):
You, mate.

Speaker 1 (12:26):
Forget the refs call, you make a call on sports
talk on your home of sports Talks.

Speaker 2 (12:36):
That was Dalton Papal and always great to be appreciated
by anyone, quite frankly. Eighteen minutes after seven caught up
with him at the team media conference today after that
team was announced. As you should know by now, there
has been one change to the starting to the run

(12:56):
on fifteen therefore one change to the subs bench.

Speaker 3 (13:00):
TJ.

Speaker 2 (13:00):
Petty Nara goes for me, Christie steps up, Cortezatama sits
in the space, and that is it that is fresh,
that is unaltered, that side only through injury with changes made.
So a couple of questions to you, I'd like for
you to climb in our eight hundred and eighty ten eighty.

Speaker 3 (13:18):
You can put on your selector's cap if you'd like.
We can text nineteen ninet two ZBZB.

Speaker 2 (13:23):
That attracts a standard text charge. You're happy that Scott
Robson didn't actually do anything, it was forced upon him.
Is this unchanged side essentially unchanged side? Does this represent
intelligent selection? Do you feel that some players possibly may

(13:44):
have been missed out? And it's a little on the
unfair side. So the one question is are you happy with?
Arguably the unchanged team is just the half back situation.

Speaker 3 (13:54):
That's it. I'd like to know from there.

Speaker 2 (13:56):
I know I am, and I'll give you the reasons
why later and the piece, but I want yours eight
hundred eighty ten eighty and Philly Christy, Look, he's been
hanging around the all backs now what is I think
it is? There's a gaggle of halfbacks looking to steal
the mantle of Aaron Smith. Good luck the guy was
a freak. But they're all there, Cameron roy Guard. He

(14:17):
is a man who has definitely got a target on
his back. We know no Holtam who turned up and
played for the Crusaders this season, has been dragged in
as a replacement in the squad, so he's getting used
to it. What about the likes of Fucktava right now?
We know with him it wasn't an acl injury. I
think he was coming back from this year, probably didn't

(14:38):
do enough to push, but he is hanging around. Weber's
disappeared Tituro tahu Rangi playing for in hisl of Mardy.
Is he an option? And what about Fanaki out of
the Blues? Is he someone you would look to? So
I'd like you to tell me about Finley Christy, what
he brings, how happy you are in that position, and
the nature of changes or the lack thereof within Scott

(15:02):
Robertson's second team of his tenure lines are open. Oh,
eight hundred eighty ten eighty, You'd love to hear from you.
I called that first up All Blacks team a sensible
and safe choice, and I don't think Scott Robinson had
a choice. He had to call that. He was coming

(15:24):
into a storm of a game, so much pressure on
him and his players. Keep it safe, keep it reliable.
And I think he's done exactly the same this time round,
and why wouldn't he. It's not a time to run
some replacements. I don't think you can upset the structure
of the team only the second game in and think
you're going to make a huge difference. I think the

(15:47):
consistency of selection, the players getting to know their positions,
their roles, the humans, the coaches very important.

Speaker 3 (15:54):
So for mine.

Speaker 2 (15:57):
Crashot selection well unraised Robinson ten out of ten have
a gold star twenty one after seven. This is sports
sock on News Dog zbrents out to gabbing.

Speaker 9 (16:11):
Garden.

Speaker 1 (16:20):
You hear it from the biggest names in sports and
have your say on eighty Sports Talk on your home
of sports News. Talks at me.

Speaker 3 (16:31):
When you're thinking he's drinking. No, you're thinking about me
when you're riding where he's driving. No, you miss in
my street.

Speaker 2 (16:38):
Dah dreaming Cannibates joins us later on the piece Pro
Box are looking to pick up two belts on Sunday
afternoon IBF and WB O middleweight straps up for grabs.

Speaker 3 (16:50):
He'll talk to us before the end of the program.

Speaker 2 (16:52):
Before that, though, more of you eight hundred eighty ten
eighty No real changes except enforced by injury for Scott
Robinson's second team second test to take on the English.

Speaker 3 (17:03):
Are you comfortably happy with that? And Christy how's he
going to work at halfback?

Speaker 2 (17:09):
Is this working for you? The young flameheired Scotsman climbing in.
Has he got what it takes? Good?

Speaker 3 (17:16):
I Bevin, How are you?

Speaker 9 (17:18):
Oh good? Does it's interesting? Isn't it?

Speaker 5 (17:20):
Like?

Speaker 9 (17:21):
Do you reckons? Scott Robinson's more conservative than what we
thought going with with Finlay.

Speaker 2 (17:28):
No, I think that Scott Robertson from that last selection
and this selection is being very considered and very careful.
He's not going to try and hit the ground running
throwing bombs everywhere. I think he's being very calm around
of selections, which is a good thing.

Speaker 7 (17:48):
Right.

Speaker 9 (17:50):
So like when he was like you know, with the
Crusaders and obviously the success and he just he went,
he went hell for leather. Now he's pulled himself in.

Speaker 5 (18:01):
No.

Speaker 2 (18:01):
I looked back to when he when he first started coaching.
Remember he came from the NPC side, Canbery side. They
had great success to it under twenties as well as
it was. But I'm not entirely sure. And someone with
a better memory than myself who looks back at Crusader's history,
how did he start coaching the Crusaders? What was his
initial move? Did he come in and start making changes

(18:23):
left right and said it? Did he ease inuntil the
players got used to him and comfortable with him so
they could all What does he say it walk together.

Speaker 9 (18:32):
I suppose I'll get to my question is like, do
you think that he chose Finlay over Fuckatava because he
he didn't want to he didn't want to take the
risk on perhaps Fuckatava is a little bit loose, I
mean not probably not the right word, but whereas maybe

(18:53):
Finlay would be a little more more conservative.

Speaker 3 (18:56):
I think the story with Fuckatava and again, correct me
if I'm wrong, but he is coming back from a
pretty horrible injury, so he was playing here but probably
possibly not to the full extent of his skills and
was still working his way back in so he wasn't

(19:17):
pecked based on he wasn't the Tava that we knew
earlier on in the.

Speaker 2 (19:22):
Piece because I watched what was it? Was it a
It was an ac.

Speaker 9 (19:29):
Yeah, yeah, yeah, it was a pretty bad So with
Rogard out, I think that. So I suppose that, like
in a lot of ways, our weaknesses is the number nine, right,
you know? Like I was watching South Africa against Ireland Island?
Yeah yeah, right, how good francistic? I mean, you know,

(19:50):
like South Africa definitely the primo team, and but yeah,
what's the guy, what's the South African halfbacks name. I see.

Speaker 3 (20:02):
The clerk faith no credit, no.

Speaker 9 (20:06):
Yeah, yeah, that's the click. Yeah, the cleck that is I.

Speaker 3 (20:09):
Get mixed up that you're with with the beach boy haircut.

Speaker 9 (20:13):
Yeah, like he but like he just turns up right
and like I think he probably yeah exactly, like he's
surfing and then he gets the call from the coach.
You know, you got to play a tess. Yeah, man,
I'll be there, I'll bet and and and it's just like, yeah,
he's so good. I think that's our weakness. We we
we don't know.

Speaker 2 (20:32):
Smith, I know, but how long was Aaron Smith in
that role for thirteen years?

Speaker 3 (20:36):
Was it the coming that long?

Speaker 9 (20:37):
Maybe too long?

Speaker 2 (20:38):
That was a long long time, And it's hard to
develop underneath that when you've got a guy's he's plugged
that gap. But we loved every second of it. So
there is always going to be some form of whole
or depression when you lose a guy of such quality.
You can't just replace that overnight. So not the easiest task.

(21:01):
But he's got guys hanging around like Roy Guard, like
No Holton maybe in a couple of years, like Finley Christie,
like fuck at Tava. I like maybe Funaki. You like
row they're around, it's just going to take a while
to establish themselves. I mean when Smith turned up, didn't
he established himself in thirty seconds and just no one
looked back?

Speaker 6 (21:21):
Yeah?

Speaker 9 (21:21):
I think so, yeah, yeah, I was watching the Warriors.
I was looking at some of the halfback passes that
the you know, the NRL do, like those guys are
really slick, So maybe you know there's an opportunity to
sort of bring someone across into rugby.

Speaker 2 (21:40):
No, I'm sorry we got blenty out there, but Bevan,
thanks very much for your opinions. And look this lack
of depth, this seeming lack of depth at half back.
I think it's probably quite tough to say that because
they've had such a good half back at that top.

Speaker 3 (21:58):
Level four so long.

Speaker 2 (22:02):
It's difficult to plug that gap. And if you look
across the border a lot of the players I mentioned then,
is there a softened stance when it comes to halfbacks?

Speaker 3 (22:13):
Is there a lack of depth there?

Speaker 10 (22:16):
Oh?

Speaker 3 (22:16):
Eight hundred eighty ten eighty high Graham.

Speaker 10 (22:19):
Oh, hi, Darcy Holliot, good eight.

Speaker 2 (22:21):
So do you remember when Robertson took over the Crusader?
I mean you should know he didn't come in very well,
he didn't come and shaking everything up. He was he
quite reserved when he first turned up or not.

Speaker 10 (22:32):
The thing about well what Dalton popper Lee, he said,
you know, he is himself. So what he did was
he went from cannery coach, yeah, to Crustaders coach, and
he basically was worried at we're a different here, in
different gear he's gone from and he became the Crusaders coach,
and he did sing his way and I think from
a distance that's what he appears to be doing with

(22:54):
the All Blacks. It wasn't like a revolution, but but
I know players said, you know, and Karen Read's book
and White Crockets, they said, you could tell there was
a different energy. You know, there was a big change.
And I've noticed that comment, especially from the non Crusader
All Blacks.

Speaker 2 (23:11):
Well, it takes a while to get used to his
style of coaching. But I don't think he's like rolled
and throwing babies out with bathwater. He seems to be
reasonably composed around what he's trying to do with the side.
He hasn't rejected the Foster regime at all. He's trying
to build on that.

Speaker 10 (23:30):
Oh yeah, well, you know there's a lot of great
pea of very well at the World Cuptain. We only
you know, we're unlucky to not to win the final
and that's been reflected you know in the form this year.
The players of carried on and most of them have
made it. Yeah, but on the halfbacks, just briefly, yeah,
I think we've got putenty of depth of this experience.

(23:51):
I mean, he got this young Ratum is brilliant, hossome
no host I had a great season for the Crusaders,
and you know you got Roy Guard who unfortunately got
injured and would have been the start of it.

Speaker 3 (24:03):
You know, how long is it after all?

Speaker 2 (24:04):
I think it was six months he got taken out
for isn't it a few months? He should be on
the on the end of season tour.

Speaker 10 (24:11):
Right, Oh yeah, yeah. He'll probably play for his pace
for County's manor care I think, doesn't he So he'll
probably get a run for the m I imagine, and
and and they'll look at him for the tour. Yeah,
but there was unfortunate but selection there they've they've gone
with the guys. I mean, i'd love to see Athan
Black out of there, but you know they've gone with

(24:31):
They've given you the Lucy's Dalton proper Lee. He said
they've had a bit of a rocket about the way
the English got into them in that area.

Speaker 3 (24:39):
So he's give him a chance to repair.

Speaker 2 (24:42):
Not that they were broken, but he said right now
we now have to move on. You've seen what you've
done in Dunedin. Now we give you the opportunity to
cement that role. Not topping guy's heads off because one
bad game. It wasn't bad.

Speaker 3 (24:56):
He didn't lose.

Speaker 2 (24:58):
I think it shows even though people think Scott Robertson
is a little crazy, and quite possibly he is, I
think there is a sense and sensibilit around destructure and
the selection of the site. It's not a bad thing.
Seventy three. This is sports talk lines are open at
one hundred and eighty ten eighty.

Speaker 3 (25:14):
Your calls are more than welcome.

Speaker 2 (25:17):
Our Brent thinks that Fakatava has some defensive frailties.

Speaker 3 (25:21):
It's your humble opinion.

Speaker 2 (25:23):
Bring that fair call. Everyone's got different opinions on what
they see in rugby players. I think we'recovering from that injury,
not ideal.

Speaker 3 (25:31):
Bret. You can ring through if you want.

Speaker 2 (25:33):
Is there a depth issue at halfback? Maybe we're overreacting
to the fact that Aaron.

Speaker 3 (25:39):
Smith is gone to.

Speaker 2 (25:41):
Try to get him on the wireless to have a chat.
It's like you, with all respect, Darcy, I think it's
their time at the moment, I'm gonna just chill out.

Speaker 3 (25:47):
I'll just sit back for a.

Speaker 2 (25:48):
Bit, which is fair good on them, right. No one
wants to hear for an old halfback. Well I did
twenty six minutes to eight. This is sports talk on
the news talk z B.

Speaker 10 (26:00):
I get saying I'm Dad, dear Lambus So I gave
it up.

Speaker 3 (26:08):
Doddler, I'm just gorug gets in and we're gonna do
this again.

Speaker 7 (26:15):
Tell your God to bring a friend.

Speaker 2 (26:17):
All I lean the consensus around the naming of the
side is that sensible team? Well, I don't think anybody
has an issue with this. And when you consider the
weight of the fexture and I say the weight of
the fixture, all Blacks haven't been beaten at Eden Park

(26:37):
thirty years. That's a lot of pressure. Would you want
that pressure on an untried center pairing?

Speaker 3 (26:46):
For example?

Speaker 2 (26:47):
People saying maybe that Barrett and you Anty aren't.

Speaker 3 (26:49):
The right ones in there. Would you really wish that
on them? And a game that.

Speaker 2 (26:53):
Has so much import would you really mess around with
the wingers? I know people like the idea of maybe
bringing Caleb Clark back in again, but I think these
guys have got to feel for the rhythm of the
side for what Robertson's trying to do. And is Bowden
Barrett a lot more destructive off the bench with the
ability to clean up if things go horribly wrong from

(27:15):
the pine as opposed to starting off. Probably questions that
were all addressed before this team was picked. The Padnarra
situation broken. Aarnything about that sensible and I don't have
a problem with sensible as long as I said last
week a win. It's a fairly simple thing, wasn't it

(27:35):
fairly so? Even by one point, I'll take it, it's
still a win. Twenty one minutes to eight are just
jumping on the text line. Raiser also won a club
championship below MPC as well.

Speaker 3 (27:49):
He did.

Speaker 2 (27:49):
Was was that out in Sumner? I'm not entirely sure
there be a Cantaburn out there. Will tell me he's
involved the under twenties as well. And also, if you
know what he did when he first said the Crusaders.
I don't think he went in there swinging first, getting
rid of everybody. I think he built into it, which
is good. Hey Caine, how are you?

Speaker 11 (28:09):
I am made with field black season.

Speaker 3 (28:11):
And there's fourteen games of it?

Speaker 9 (28:14):
Oh cool?

Speaker 11 (28:16):
Maybe ye're sick of hearing this after the talk about
the dumb fourth World Cup. Then he just won. It's like,
you know, the first game made, but to be fear.

Speaker 2 (28:27):
Like, what do you mean you didn't see in the
first game.

Speaker 11 (28:30):
I don't saying the first game, but I watched Ireland.
Did you see that piece of play between the three boards,
the two props in I think it was col a
hooker and behind they come behind as the second men
and the other a pass that just was a beautiful
piece of deception and they put him through the gift
that uponnor Murray scored off do that piece.

Speaker 3 (28:52):
I don't have a brutal memory of it.

Speaker 11 (28:58):
Basically, what my point is it is just a masterful
piece of deception from two props in the hooker. You
have a look a moment, it's on YouTube. And then
of course walk passes off to gone to Murray and
you know we talk about how skillful. We are over
the years and we were pretty good at this and that.
But from what I see in the all black excumous

(29:19):
raising in the spious game, it still looks like a
lot of one outs. But like the Warriors has one out,
one out, one out, and I'll wait for a bit
of musterful decision there. It doesn't really came.

Speaker 2 (29:30):
It's too soon to do that when this is a
team made up of guys who was not only the
fact that he's new in the role, it's also these
guys have come out of months and months of super rugby.

Speaker 3 (29:43):
It's a different product.

Speaker 2 (29:46):
And to try and throw a spell or cast some
magic over the opposition a team that's reasonably hardened because
they had been playing as a unit at the international level,
that's probably a little foolhardy, don't you think.

Speaker 11 (30:01):
Well, I'm I thought we'd I'd like to see us
sort of evolve, and you've got to commit to the
I mean, because I mean, I just hope I don't
see another halfway through the season. All we're doing is
one out sort of stuff in the same old bomb
in the air and the half big doesn't bomb in
the air. And I'd like to see something of it
different from from the Razors or Blicks. And well that's
all mate.

Speaker 2 (30:21):
Yeah, but you've seen what Robinson's been capable of when
he's been coaching the Crusaders. Did you think he carried
on in the same manner right the way through?

Speaker 3 (30:31):
And but the biggest question even if he did, Even
if he does, it doesn't change much if he has
success and wins games.

Speaker 2 (30:40):
Is anybody going to be too critical? I think if
you try something too outlandish and fancy pans and you lose,
then you start getting people's backs up, right.

Speaker 11 (30:53):
Yeah, I just I just if you haven't look at
their piece of play. It was pretty it was It
wasn't much energy. It was so efficient, is what I'm
trying to say. Between three of the fatties, the two
props in and Hooker, it's a little bit of master's
deception that didn't take much energy. And I wish we
could sort of implement that into our game because this

(31:14):
would be bloody pretty good.

Speaker 2 (31:16):
Give it time, Give it time, Caine, give it time.
It's seven point forty two coming up shortly on the show.
Andre Mkhaylovitch joins us we are talking the sweet science
here at News Talks AB. It's seventeen minutes to eight.

Speaker 1 (31:30):
The right call is your call on eight hundred eighty
eighty Sports Talk call on your home of Sports News TALKSB.

Speaker 2 (31:39):
We're joined now by a man who is chasing straps,
two of them, and he's chasing them this weekend, Andre Mikaylovitch.
It joins us ahead of hers big fight against Zana
MC and I'll knnerly thank you very much for joining us.
A lot of pressure on you right now? How are
you coping this? Are you even feeling that pressure at all? Andre?

Speaker 8 (32:00):
No, pressure is what you make and a lit of
our perspective. If you think it's going to be this
big scary deal, then it'll be there. If you think
it's just gonna be another day in paradise, it'll be that.
So I'm just living my life, and I live in paradise.

Speaker 11 (32:11):
So how do you say about that?

Speaker 3 (32:13):
How have you prep for this?

Speaker 2 (32:13):
Though you've got an opposition in front of you. He's
got quite a punch on. I mean, well, boxes do,
don't they. It's part of your job. But have you
looked much into what he delivers in the ring? Is
that part of your process here?

Speaker 3 (32:25):
Yeah?

Speaker 8 (32:25):
I see everything. I know everything. I know everything he does.
It's all a part of the process. But I'm lucky.
I've got a great training thing behind me that, you know,
support me and give me the right ideas, and I
just follow the instructions and I just be their puppet.
It makes life easy.

Speaker 3 (32:37):
So has their instructions.

Speaker 2 (32:38):
Please don't tell me they're saying, get out in the
middle and wipe him out in the first minute.

Speaker 3 (32:42):
We don't want to exhaust yourself early. How are you
looking to break this down, andre.

Speaker 8 (32:46):
I'm just gonna run around and more of a shot
and knock him out in the first round.

Speaker 3 (32:50):
And that's that's from your management. That's what the training
is seen.

Speaker 8 (32:53):
Is na look man like, We've got our game plan,
als us and everything, and we'll do what we have
to do and we'll win whatever whatever many means necessary,
it means it's a long boy, or it's you know,
it is what it is, man. I just do my
job and be professional and listen to my coaches, and
obviously tell.

Speaker 2 (33:09):
Us about your build up for this fight, because you're
inactive for a long long time and then you suddenly
got busy again.

Speaker 3 (33:17):
Talk us south through the build up.

Speaker 8 (33:18):
Andre I thought I had, I had. I was meant
to fight in May, but I ended up flighting in
April to state current and Frankings because the dinner thread
Evan who was mandated to fight. They know I was
going to fight for the world title eliminator. He kept
getting injured and we couldn't get a deal together. So
I ended up getting mandated for the IBAF world title.
And that's one fighting Jenney back in Vegas.

Speaker 3 (33:40):
So what did you learn.

Speaker 2 (33:41):
Out of your last fight, because it was the period
before that wasn't it was a year of an action,
So what did you pick up out of that that
you might need to use come Sunday afternoon, New Zealand time.

Speaker 8 (33:52):
You know, I think being patient is really important, and
I also think an extra level of self belief because,
you know, no matter what was happening in my life
last year, I stayed, you know, I stayed in the
gym and I'm proud of that, and.

Speaker 2 (34:03):
That's an important part of it. So you're fit, you've
worked really, really well, you've tape it off. Well, what's
that involved in the last week since you've landed in
camp Andre.

Speaker 8 (34:10):
Yeah, we've taped off good. You know, Isaac's a relentless trainer,
and he's also really good at judging where I am
at in terms of energy, in terms of how how
how tired I am, or how I'm feeling and how
I'm looking. You know, I've been trained with Isaac for
years now and he can just look at me and
no exactly how I'm feeling. So we have a real
good relationship. He's the man and he knows me better

(34:33):
than my wife, So that's good.

Speaker 2 (34:35):
Hope he doesn't know you that intimately, Andre.

Speaker 8 (34:38):
No, maybe very close. There's a lot of that here.
He can read me like a book. He's really onto it.

Speaker 11 (34:44):
So it's good.

Speaker 3 (34:45):
You're very confident. You always have been.

Speaker 2 (34:46):
This has been part of your what twenty twenty one
fight career. I think it's been and that's not going
to stop. You haven't adjusted anything, so now you're on
the on the cusp of actually achieving your dream ibfwbo straps.
Has anything changed head wise leading up to what is
a mat could be a life changing fight for you?

Speaker 8 (35:04):
Andre, Really, I've always had the corner belief that I'm
the man and I'm meant to be here. So no,
not really, I just like you know, like I said,
I just listened to my coaches and I do my job,
and that's to be a professional fighter and enjoy it,
you know, like the things were Vegas, where if you
put it, if you make it into this big deal
in this big city, you know, it's like to put
it into perspective, like Vegas is forty three times smaller

(35:26):
than Auckland, so it's not actually a big city. And
the lights are just neon lights. It's nothing too crazy.
It's just another city. And in this hotel room, I
could be anywhere in the world. I could be in Sauada, Arabia,
Alba Dabai. I've been in London, Australia, could be anywhere.
It doesn't really matter. I'm in the hotel the whole time,
so it doesn't really matter.

Speaker 2 (35:42):
And then you dragged into a squad circle doing that
you always do. So that don't changed from what the
Auckland Boxing Association right the way through are now.

Speaker 3 (35:50):
It's the same place and it's canvas and ropes.

Speaker 8 (35:52):
Yeah, that's it. It's just two guys in a ring
fighting to make money and one will win and one
will lose. It's all it is people over sensationalizer and
you just got to keep a basics takend potatoes for
life baby.

Speaker 2 (36:02):
And what about the support from home? Have you had
a lot of that? You've been contach with people near
and derdy? Have many people come over for the trip
for the fight?

Speaker 8 (36:10):
I don't know. I got a I don't know. Yeah,
everyone's like really supportive in that, but like you know,
I think I'm being pretty selfish this week and just
raining by myself and if people are coming over, like
that's on them to sort it out really, and I'm
just like I'm trying. I'm just trying to do my thing,
which is fight, and I'm not worried about anything else.
I can only control what I can control, and that's
what I say do in the field, So that's per
what I'm doing.

Speaker 2 (36:31):
Do you look between it all started well? I mentioned
the Auckland Boxing Association GYM earlier on in the piece.

Speaker 3 (36:36):
But you got underweight? How many fights? Also? Twenty one fights?
Work it out.

Speaker 2 (36:41):
I'll get there eventually, called Rob Ramsey. Do you remember
that way back then? Did you even consider where you might.

Speaker 3 (36:48):
Be if you were successful in that first up scrap?

Speaker 8 (36:52):
I think that that's pro debut. I was just excited
to be a pro, like the was always my lifelong
ambition to be a pro. I remember fighting as an
amateur and I was like, this is not it. I
have to wear like a head gear and like a
single it and fight with these big gloves on. I
always liked the effect of like just having a like
mano man who fight with just like a mouth guard
in small gloves. So to be a pro was a
dream of mine. And you know, I was just excited

(37:14):
to be ranked like one two hundred and eighty fourth
from the world brow and have a Boxerrick guys. I
just thought that was so cool. And then from there,
I guess there was a natural progression to middleweight champ,
super worldweight champ, and regional champ and then world ranked,
and it's just all a real long progression, Like this
is taking seven years to get here, six sorry, six
and a half years to get here. So it's kind

(37:36):
of like having a baby, bro, Like you're excited that
the babies come in, but it also takes nine months
to get there. You've got time to prepare for it.
It's not like it just rocks up.

Speaker 3 (37:44):
Talk about your babies. You've been in touch with your
wife and your kids.

Speaker 8 (37:48):
Yeah, yeah, they're all good, bro, Like you know that
kids are good, and I try not to think about
them too much because I have to try and hurt
someone in a few days, so it can't be too soft.
But yeah, I think good.

Speaker 2 (37:57):
I think you're get to go and there gonna hurt
like there's no tomorrow. I've really loved watching your rise
and rise, and to see you up at this level
fighting for these world straps.

Speaker 3 (38:07):
Is something else. I know.

Speaker 2 (38:08):
You won't let us down. You won't let yourself down
or mister Peach either. That's the most important thing. Get
in there, cause a rucus and bring us back a
couple of straps while you hell.

Speaker 8 (38:18):
That's the job. Thank you, Darcy. I really appreciate the call.

Speaker 3 (38:20):
No need for the DMO.
