Speaker 1 (00:06):
You're listening to the Sports Talk podcast with Dancy Wildergrave
from news talk z be Huge.

Speaker 2 (00:13):
Night and combat sports tonight boxing, particularly in the Squared Circle.
We're joined now by Isaac Peach, of course, the trainer
behind a man who is close to a world title fight.
Jerome Pampalone is our man tonight he takes on Connor
Wallace in a world title eliminator. Isaac, Welcome to the program.
First up, just describe the energy and darling harbor leading

(00:37):
up to a fight like that. What's it like, palpable.

Speaker 3 (00:39):
I'm presuming today's pretty quiet because it's kind of to
come before the storm. But the last few days been
pretty busy. It's a full house here and spooks fight many.

Speaker 2 (00:49):
Huge fight so in the lead up, so today's pretty quiet.
You need a bit of time to breathe and I
suppose master your thoughts. Is that standard in the fight game?
You have that calm?

Speaker 4 (00:59):
Is you always like that? Man?

Speaker 3 (01:00):
Usually a couple of days before everyone's spelting around and
everyone's excited and voiceous, and day of the fight it's
quite quiet. Everyone's kind of kitching themselves and then we
get in there and before right, So.

Speaker 2 (01:12):
What's drone been specifically what had been working on with
him and the leader after what happened last time around
is O went. He had that loss that up against
mullig S andad. So what have you been focusing on?
Do you look back much to that exchange? Isaac?

Speaker 3 (01:29):
Yeah, Look, we've got our best to pick up our game.
I mean we've tried to better ourselves in all areas.
We didn't really step up last time. We only just
lost a world class guy, but it wasn't good enough.
And we've worked on all the one percenters just to
get over the line. And this time you always say
it with your guy, but I really felt drones in
his beds and I'm bloody excited for tonight.

Speaker 4 (01:49):
And we've worked really hard. We've had a great camp.

Speaker 2 (01:52):
Looking back to that fight and that loss, you say
the one percent is what particularly? Was it work inside?
Was it outside? Was controlling the fight? Was it getting
in the corner, staying in the middle? What did you
actually look like? What did you look at that particular
fight where you think one of those one pisins didn't
quite hit the mark?

Speaker 3 (02:10):
Well, a few things, man like we hit that Mulegs
and Abel shots that killed a guy, and he smiled
at us, So it is always popping out of his heads.

Speaker 4 (02:16):
We've got some queries.

Speaker 3 (02:17):
On what was going on regarding drugs that night. If
you go rewatch the fight, you see what I mean.
But also he had a good game plan. They had
a good, good game plan. They keep us away, they
keep us on the end of the jab. Jerome got
staying with a few shots that hurt him and got
him a bit of a glaze.

Speaker 4 (02:32):
And we couldn't quite couldn't quite get there. In this game,
when you get to the.

Speaker 3 (02:36):
To the top level, if you're not quite there, you're
not going to win.

Speaker 4 (02:38):
So we put a lot out of it.

Speaker 3 (02:40):
We got twelve hard rounds and Drome's have been quite
implore it.

Speaker 4 (02:43):
We're not going to make those mistakes.

Speaker 2 (02:45):
I hope not. Hey go back to what you said
about the drug accusation. Have you gone any further with that,
what's the grounding, what's the basis on that, what's being done?

Speaker 3 (02:53):
Just the room and all that was going around where
we were. But I mean, we can't control that.

Speaker 4 (02:57):
These guys, little paper creag So yeah, we're going to happy.

Speaker 2 (03:00):
That you got through now. Connor Wallace described the man
in the other corner. What does he got what thirteen
and one? So plainly he's got whiskers, he can take
a shot. What else do you know about him?

Speaker 3 (03:10):
Oh, it's good, he's Irish's a he's a really good
self for he's an awkward self for he's had a
lot of amateur fights.

Speaker 4 (03:17):
He's there top right everyweight in the side of the world.

Speaker 3 (03:20):
We think dromers and it's a world class pipe bands
winner fights for a world title. So look, we know
what we're up against. But I think Jerome's best slide
eavyweight honest day in the world. And I need to
get the best drone to win this fight, and I
think I've got it right now.

Speaker 2 (03:34):
We're talking with Isaac Peach out of the Peach Boxing gym.
As far as the crowd goes, a lot of people there,
I'm presuming most of them will be barracking for Jerome,
being that he's you know, he's an Anzac, He's from
the Southern heman's feet well, he represents the Southern fear
even Port.

Speaker 3 (03:49):
The guy who lives in Australia. He's got big Irish support.
No one wants us to win. On on to go
and from as well. So we've been treated like shit,
to be honest with you. So we're going to go
shove up everything year and we're really motivated and we've
got no time.

Speaker 4 (04:01):
For anyone in the super country. We're coming to rub
it in their face.

Speaker 2 (04:05):
And that's what kind of You've got a big posse
that's over there helping out yourself, your trainers the like
as well other entourage there, Isaac.

Speaker 4 (04:13):
No, we don't do that, boy. We roll alone's rolling groups.
We roll alone. We've got me Jerome, my brother.

Speaker 3 (04:20):
Usually here, but he's actually had an operation, so it's
me Jerome and my wife and we've got a doctor.

Speaker 4 (04:25):
Doctor say, I'm here to do the cats. That's all
we got.

Speaker 2 (04:28):
What else is happening in the gym? Mikalevitch? How's that going?
How's he looking? Because he's of course I couldn't fight
last time. He'd be so frustrated, wouldn't he.

Speaker 4 (04:35):
Yeah, mcaal whch is good.

Speaker 3 (04:37):
And we've got a purse, but which is like an
auction on the same fight next week September the third,
so we'll know what he's doing. It should be the
same guy. We have to do the whole thing over again.
So that's getting worked out now and mea we have
an announcement this week, but I'll tell you we're fighting
for the unifiable title in England October twenty six, which
shall all come live this week.

Speaker 2 (04:56):
What is what the rise and rise of fight sport
in this country, Isaac? What do you put it down to?
We've got Joe Parker right at the top and the heavyweights.
You look right across City kickboxing. What's happening there with
Mixed marsh Lart of course, Jerome and Caleb. It's the
list goes on. It's really surging. What do you put
that down to? Why are we suddenly so good and
so interested in this sport?

Speaker 3 (05:15):
I think some people in the sport that have given
these guys some direction to dop Man, we've got a
we've got a.

Speaker 4 (05:20):
Country of athletes. I think it's it's all. We've been
like that. Whatever New Zealand put their mind to, they're
good at.

Speaker 3 (05:25):
Right, We've got to rugby, we're good at rowing, We're.

Speaker 4 (05:26):
Going to We've got all sorts of sports.

Speaker 3 (05:28):
So we put our mind to a bit of fighting,
we're good at that too. So I think we've got
a pretty amazing country and quite a lot of ability
down here.

Speaker 4 (05:35):
I think that's the truth of it.

Speaker 3 (05:36):
I think if you look over all sports New Zealander
populations for the best in the world.

Speaker 2 (05:41):
Isak Pet's joining the program? What about access on on
TV or online? People have got access to it now,
so they're really starting to buy in because they can
actually see it whenever they want. That's got to be
a contributing factor, surely the fan base and the potential
to make some coin too.

Speaker 4 (05:58):
I don't know, Man, to be honest with you, it's hard.

Speaker 3 (06:01):
I think the biggest letdown in New Zealand is we
don't fill stadiums. You go to the place in the world,
everyone gets behind it and he's yonder.

Speaker 4 (06:07):
It's quiet.

Speaker 3 (06:08):
We've got the ability of the fighters and the athletes,
but trying to get people along to support your fighters
and sponsorships, that's really hard. And if we can get
if we can improve on that, it would make life
limiting a whole lot easier. Look, look, TV doesn't get
behind us, Man, Skuy's not even putting this on. It's disgusting.
Do not have Sky TV putting on all eliminated for
one of our young athletes.

Speaker 4 (06:27):
It's just I'm speechless.

Speaker 3 (06:30):
We're going to be having to get people to try
and find streams and all sorts of rubbish.

Speaker 4 (06:33):
Just try and get it. It's a joke.

Speaker 3 (06:36):
We need sky TV following our sports though, our sports provider.

Speaker 4 (06:39):
Why the hell are we not on it?

Speaker 2 (06:40):
What do you think people enjoy watching it? What's the
attraction with fight sporty or boxing at any weight level?
What's the attraction.

Speaker 4 (06:49):
The attraction fights for someone can get hurt.

Speaker 3 (06:52):
And it sounds silly, but it's got that X factor, right,
It's not a game of tennis. When you lose it,
it's dangerous. It's got all those all those X factors
that people like. I mean, it's human nature's right. Back
in the day, I've always liked watching violent threat, so
I think it's that. But it's can drove violence, and
I think it's always been something people want.

Speaker 4 (07:10):
I home. People need to come and follow it.

Speaker 3 (07:11):
People need to come and follow all these good fight nights,
or they aren't following it like they need to. They
need to buy tickets, they need to put bums on seats,
and it helps get these guys to the top level
and the next generation too.

Speaker 2 (07:21):
Ever, reading something once someone said you don't play boxing.
That's the nature of boxing. They're not messing around here,
and I get that as well. Hey what about power
slap Dana White's new invention? Have you have you seen that?
Do you think that's got any any traction to be
made over here? Because I think it's only in Nevada
you're actually allowed to do it because it's so brutal.

Speaker 4 (07:40):
Is that the flapping of the faces?

Speaker 2 (07:42):
That's the one where they basically stand there off disgust.

Speaker 4 (07:45):
I think it's the stupidest thing I've ever heard in
my life.

Speaker 3 (07:48):
Your brain domers and that's the most dumbest thing I've
ever seen, not even a sport.

Speaker 4 (07:53):
What are you going to do? I think it's brutal,
and it's done, and you're going to have a whole
lot of kids doing it at school.

Speaker 2 (07:57):
And I think it's dangerous And one second time for
that grip and I agree completely it's insane. And on
that we'll let you get on with your preparation. I
wish Jerone the best of luck from all of us
here at News Talk ZB and hopefully we can take
it a gaze at it somehow of an evening. Isaac Peach,
thanks for your time, my friend hell.

Speaker 4 (08:16):
No worries Man, Well, we've went it from New Jilm tonight.
