Speaker 1 (00:06):
You're listening to the Sports Talk podcast with Dancy Wildergrave
from News Talk zid be tremendous.

Speaker 2 (00:13):
Result today for the All Whites. After disappointing themselves up
against Mexico out losing three zip, things changed one one
with the sixteenth ranked team in the world, the United
States of America. Darren beaze Head coached the All Whites
joins US. Now, it was a big lift, wasn't it.
From Sunday?

Speaker 3 (00:32):
Yeah, it was. It was. I mean, we asked the
boys for a positive reaction to the Mexico game, and
and I felt like we got that. You know, it
was from the from the start of the game tonight,
it was, you know, full of commitment and pride and aggression.
And I thought we put in a really tough shift
and a good performance tonight. You know, the Mexico game

(00:52):
was pretty tough. You know, it was very hot. Conceded
the early goal, and you know, we weren't quite able
to get to the level that we wanted to, and
it was it was tough for the boys. And you know,
two days later, you know a lot of a lot
of talking, a lot of reflection and review you in,
and yeah, the boys, boys turned it around and put
on a good performance.

Speaker 1 (01:11):
Well.

Speaker 2 (01:11):
It landed the reviews, the conversations Chris what was pretty
powerful and his speech too about what needed to be
provided and what wasn't provided. So they listen.

Speaker 3 (01:20):
It got in Yeah, one hundred percent. And we've got
some We've got great players and good staff, but you know,
we've got some really good leaders like Woodsy. And when
Woodsey stands in front of the group and says I
wasn't at it and we weren't at it and we
need to be better, then you know we're going to
get a reaction. And I felt like tonight was was good.
You know, we can still be better. But I thought
out of possession, what we asked from them was to

(01:43):
show a lot of aggression, a lot of heart, and
to really like sort of let America, let the US
team that we're here and we're here to play a
game of football, you know. And we we were able
to play in the breakdown and we created some chances
and we got our rewards. Be a bit lucky at
the end, but I think when you're when you're positive
and you do certain things during the game, then you

(02:04):
probably earn your reward.

Speaker 2 (02:05):
Heart in the mouth with the goal that was Vincy
disallowed what was it twenty odd minute after that foul
on Kakachi, you would have just halted for a second and.

Speaker 3 (02:13):
Gone, yeah, because I thought we started the game so
well and I thought we were in it, so that
when that went in, it was it was disappointing, and
maybe we deserved that bit of luck. You know, over
the over the last sort of year, we probably haven't
had or we feel like we've not had the run
of the game too much at times. But yeah, that

(02:36):
was I mean, it's yeah, it was disallowed, and we
moved on pretty quickly, and we carried on and you know,
and then obviously the conceding that goal on on about
sixty was again a sixty five was probably a bit
of a blow, but great reaction again, and we stayed
in the game and towards the end, you know, we
were pushing to try to win the game. You know,

(02:57):
we didn't we didn't sit back. You know, we get
we get the goal, which is a bit lucky, you know,
we know that. But on top of that, we created
some good chart says you know, we've got people in
good positions crossing, We've had a few shots and Yeah,
so we're gradually building, but we have to keep remembering
that was that was against a pretty highly ranked team.
But not only a highly ranked team, but it's away

(03:19):
from home, so you know, it becomes quite hard always
playing away from home against higher ranked oppositions. Hopefully this
is a good moment for the boys to realize that
when we do certain things and we play a certain way,
that we can live with these level teams.

Speaker 2 (03:35):
Ranked sixteenth in the world, the U say, but the
strength of their team that sit off in the park today,
how strong was the USA team that we're talking the
number one players? Was a mix of players here? What
was the quality like of them walking onto the park?

Speaker 3 (03:53):
Yeah, I mean they've got some really good players. You know,
you look through their squad and the clubs that the
players play for, a top clubs. Yeah, they're missing a
few players. But you know, when we look at ourselves
and you know, we've got some preach sing and Tyler
Bindon and Callum mccowart missing. You know, I think every
every team that probably internationally that plays are always going

(04:14):
to be missing a few players. So you know, America
are pretty lucky that when they have four or five
players missing they can call upon other players from top
leagues around the world to come in. So yeah, I
wouldn't I wouldn't say it was the strongest US team,
but it was also a pretty good strong team that
would have expected to beat us tonight.

Speaker 2 (04:33):
Darren Bazie, how did things change after that pull us
to go what sixty seventh minute? What did you see
that the All Whites supply to try and draw or
even win. What adjusted Well?

Speaker 3 (04:45):
I didn't see heads drop. I saw a little bit
of determination to continue and to carry on, try to
get back in the game. You know, we stayed in
the game right to the end. We made some substitutions.
I thought the subs that came on impacted the game well,
brought some energy, which is what we asked from them,
you know, to come on and affect the game. And
I think all of the subs that came on, you know,

(05:07):
did well. And you know, ultimately Ben Wayne sort of
is there and Logan Rogerson is there to help get
that goal at the end. So that's their job. You know,
they're all disappointed to not start, but if you're a sub,
you have to be ready to come on and affect
the game. And in credit to the guys. I thought
they did and brought some energy and brought some legs
because the guys that started the game, they put so

(05:29):
much effort into the game. You know, some of them
were off their feet. I think we'll see some big
numbers on their GPS stats, you know, overnight. So yeah,
it was a big effort from the whole team and
good that the subs came on and helped. You know,
they just carried on where people had left off.

Speaker 2 (05:43):
Darren Baisley, It's been described as sweeping changes that you
made the most during your tenure for a big match,
so you're not afraid to make these changes. It well
accepted by the side and instrumental that these guys got
a chance to actually run on. Those moves are worth it.

Speaker 3 (06:01):
Yeah, yeah, one hundred percent. You know, we're building a
good squad where we've got competition for places and you know,
now it becomes performance related, you know, and you know,
we were disappointed with the Mexico game, but you know
it was difficult. It was very hot, and you know
against the Mexico, a good Mexican team. But yeah, with
the game sort of three days later, I think, you know,

(06:24):
we're probably expecting to make some changes, and you know,
the guys that then came in, we challenge them with okay,
well this is an opportunity. You'll start and grab the shirt,
you know, and that's that's got to be the way
it is. You know, you start in the game and
and you need to perform because we're starting to build
a really good squad now of players that you know,
in the end, we take Finn sermon off, who was

(06:44):
really good box he comes on and steps in and
does really well. You know, we take Eli off and
Ben Old comes on. So we're starting to get some
some double ups in positions, which is which is really
good for us.

Speaker 2 (06:55):
And you're playing international football a friendly football granted, but
you're playing international football. I don't think you can underestimate
or underdescribe how important that is for the side and
also for the fan base to see their team playing
regular games against quality opponents. That's going to continue, right, definitely.

Speaker 3 (07:15):
You know, we've got games we're going to play every window.
We're going to have a lot of games. Now we
come back to Oceana and we need to do our
job in the World Cup qualifiers. That's that's key. That's
the business end. You know, we know that we need
to qualify for the World Cup and that will be
over the next three windows, so that we're going to
come back and get that job done and then we
can look forward to other things without getting ahead of ourselves.

(07:38):
But yeah, that's that's what we need, you know, and
then we need to be playing regular games against good opposition,
but competing like we did tonight against these oppositions. So
we know we're still waiting for that sort of signature
win against the high ranked team. We've competed tonight and
showed that we can live at times at this level,
but we we still know there's a bit of work

(07:59):
to do to start to beat these teams.

Speaker 2 (08:02):
Well, it wasn't a win, but it was a result
up against the United States of America and for them,
you should be proud. Thanks very much for your time,
Darren Barzy go well, congratulate your team for us.

Speaker 3 (08:11):
Oh good cheers, cheers mate. Thank you.
