Speaker 1 (00:06):
You're listening to the Sports Talk podcast with Dancy Wildergrave
from News Talk Zed.

Speaker 2 (00:11):
Be Yeah, I was gonna be gone tender. Can we
go back to the Hellcon days of tweeny twenty and
Nairobi when the black Caps held all off the champions trophy?
No idea, but they do have to get through the
semi finalist. The other one, the South African starts tonight
form my black Cap on here it joins us now evening,

(00:33):
Ronnie evening. He gone, yeah, good, looking forward to night
another long night in front of the TV. Don't know
quite long, how old, But I'll have our crack anyway,
because it looks like if you read up about this
semi final between South Africa and New Zealand, she's going
to be a high scoring affair of previous matches or
anything to go by, it could be a crater.

Speaker 3 (00:54):
Yeah. Back in Pakistan, they've recently played that try series
as well, so I guess the two teams will know
each other pretty well. And yeah, the better is probably
be looking forward to a decent flat wicket.

Speaker 2 (01:06):
I suppose the question as the we'll throw it at
you the makeup of the top audit. Mitchell's coming back.
Young's been in and out, Conway's been in and out.
You're not going to mess with ravishing Revenger, are you.
So who is the unlucky player out of the three
of them that miss out?

Speaker 3 (01:23):
I mean, you're not going to get rid of Revenger.

Speaker 2 (01:24):
No.

Speaker 3 (01:25):
I'd say it'd probably be a combination of Ravender and
Young just because they played that combination in the Try
series and Red relatively well. I think that'll probably be
the mix, and yeah, throwing someone in or changing it
too much. I think what they've probably got to do
is just go with what they think their best eleven is,
and I think there was probably the eleven that was

(01:46):
playing in the Try series, right.

Speaker 2 (01:47):
So room for Mitchell to come in. So who walks away?
Will it be Conway who doesn't get the right because
four players you can't fit them into three spots.

Speaker 3 (01:56):
I think it'd probably be Conway. I'd say Mitchell probably
be a street switchback, and he's just got enough credit
in the bank in terms of ICC tournaments. The last
one Cup he was dynamite, so I think he's probably
the one that slots straight back in.

Speaker 2 (02:10):
He's hopelessly reliable, isn't he? I think once he dropped
a horrible catch of recent times. So that's the only
mistake of scene and make it a long time. He's
a trustworthy character.

Speaker 3 (02:19):
Him, and I think you're getting a good production out
of Phillips those two together in the middle either one
of them come off, I think yeah, in conjunction with
some of the guys in the top order. If they
can get away, then I think you're looking at a
pretty good total.

Speaker 2 (02:30):
They fell apart and also fell apart. It's probably a
little cruel, but they dropped the ball, not literally but
figuratively up against India. Couldn't put those partnerships together in
the middle order towards the end. Is that? Is it
an easy fixing it? They picked much up out of that.

Speaker 3 (02:46):
Yeah. I think there's just some things that are to
take from that game in terms of lessons to take
forward into the semi and then hopefully the final when
they play in there again. I think it's just tweaking guys,
maybe taking some obstains a little bit too early in
the piece. And I think you see that saw that game.
Although you know when you're chasing, you can almost guy
to chase home. But if they've got another thirty to

(03:07):
forty runs and had a bit more scoreboard pressure. I
think that game might have looked a little different. You know,
India did win by I think five or six weeks
something like that, but you know, the extra time taken
to score those runs in the second and second innings
might have used a bit more resource for India, you know,
and then the game becomes a bit more a bit
more close. So I don't think there are a million
miles away, and they have been playing pretty well, especially

(03:28):
in the tri series against Pakistan and South Africa, so
I expect something similar tonight, Ronnie.

Speaker 2 (03:34):
I believe that whether you bat or bowl first, there's
not much bearing on the outcome of the game, so
it's not really toss dependent. That's going to be good,
doesn't it.

Speaker 3 (03:44):
Yeah. I mean, i'd imagine in a semi final it'll
be probably looking with the jew maybe coming down batting second.
But you know, obviously the argument has runs on the board,
and we've seen South Africa in the past, perhaps under
pressure not not not get through those games against New Zealand.
I think the last few SEC events to New Zealand
have had the ward over them, especially in knockout games.

(04:06):
I think he can lean on those types of experiences.
You've had Kam Williamson go through that, You've been sat
in to go through it against South Africa, so guys
who have been there and done that. But yeah, I
think betting and bowling. I think New Zealand betting and
bowling first. Rather I think that the black Caps should
be able to either post a good store or you know,
chase something down.

Speaker 2 (04:25):
Jamison O'Rourke and of course Matt Henry's really coming to
his own. That's a wonderful trumpet of fast bowlers. Then
you've got what Beast brings to it as well, brace
Will and of course the captain Santner. She's a pretty
balanced bowling lineup, isn't it.

Speaker 3 (04:41):
Yeah, the very balanced at the moment. Actually, I think
I think they probably would have liked to have Ferguson
fit just adds a bit something more, something different with
a speed, but there wasn't to be and they've managed
to get Jameson involved quite quickly, so it's good to
see him back after you know, somewhat of a long
injury period. But hopefully you can get a good string

(05:03):
of games and back in the back of the black Caps.
But but well rounded. I think Michael Brasil not only
with the ball, but I think it'd be nice if
you could start featuring a little bit more consistently with
the bat when he gets opportunities, because he's such a
dangerous hitter as well. But I think the black Caps,
barring the Mitchell conundrum, I think they're pretty settled at
the moment.

Speaker 2 (05:22):
They've had the best build up and I know that
they've been criticized before New Zealand Cricket have been anyway
of not giving them a proper build up before a
key series that you can't complain about this time around.
If they're set and ready to perform after what they've
been through the last lot six weeks, it's now, isn't.

Speaker 3 (05:39):
It It is? I mean, India is going to be
formidable in the final, but we've got to get there first.
But I don't think they've got as good opportunity this
time they're coming in. They've played in those conditions in
Pakistan for the last five or six weeks, barring the
game in Dubai, and I think they're probably going to
have as good a chance as any is trying to
get to the final and then trying to be near

(06:01):
over more so than some of the other events that
they've been to where they perhaps haven't had that that
preparation in those conditions.

Speaker 1 (06:09):
