Speaker 1 (00:06):
You're listening to the Sports Talk podcast with Dancy Wildergrave
from News Talk sed be the Warrior's.
Speaker 2 (00:13):
Team fullback Jones, Nickel, clerk Stard. You've got teen Tapiky
on one wing or too vasa check on the other,
A Tower and Adam Pompey. You're too centers Harris to Vida,
Metcalf six and seven fish at Harris Wade, Egan, Mitch Barnett,
two front rollers in a hooker thrown in the medal
(00:34):
for good measure, Kirk Capable Marata near Cordy Aeron Clark.
There that's your thirteen interchange from walker Ford. I'm among
a Halaesema Healey, Martin, you're a mere Toyava R four
and Cossie. We'll see what that makes up. I think
I know what the four are going to be, and
that's going to be Dylan Jackson, Dimitric and Lecua. Anyway,
(00:55):
that's the team. No change. Were joined now by form
what Warriors coach, Rugby league pundit and frantic drinkers of
a cup of tea. Mister Frank Endakopch talk about it.
Speaker 3 (01:06):
Welcome Frank, good indeed, Darcy nice to be on.
Speaker 2 (01:10):
And it's great to have you on to talk about
the ups and the downs of the Warriors. Of course
you'd say it's a down right now after what happened
in Las Vegas. I got to ask this first up
question and the coach, Andrew Webster, said, look, you've got
to be patient. You've got to be patient with the halves.
You've got to wait. They've got to take time before
they build into that role. But I suppose when you
(01:33):
look at that, what do they do in the off season.
I'm a very impatient man, and I don't know if
I want to wait for metcalf. Is he fair enough
on that one?
Speaker 1 (01:41):
Oh?
Speaker 3 (01:41):
Look, I understanding the patients, but that's why you have
two trial games leading into the first game, and you know,
to get those combinations right. But yeah, I can understand
him and sticking with the same team Darcy. It's a
coach is progative. Of course, he's showing faith in his players.
Every player deserves a second chance, but the players also
(02:02):
should feel grateful that he's giving them that second chance
after the effort in Las Vegas.
Speaker 2 (02:07):
Well, you say an effort, It wasn't much of an
effort in Las Vegas. Can you put your finger on
why it just went like it did. Besides the fact
that the opposition hit the ground running well, I.
Speaker 3 (02:18):
Think the opposition were more prepared for the game from
what I seen. I was actually there in Vegas to
watch it, and you know, before the game, I was
quite confident. After the first five minutes, I wasn't. I
looked at the teams when they put the teams up
on the big screen, Darcy, I actually said to my wife, look,
I had a real problem here. Even though cameras are
(02:39):
the rank outsiders. I like the look of the centers,
and I like the look of their halves, and I
look at air halves and air centers and they're all
pretty inexperience, and I thought that's where it's going to
be one and lost. But it was And it was
really but in saying that our forwards look good on paper,
but they kept coming through camera and kept coming through
(03:01):
the middle on us too. So we've got a lot
of improving to do on defense.
Speaker 2 (03:05):
In the preseason. Surely a lot of that is ironed
out or is it a case of Andrew Webster just
unsure who is six seven were going to be? So
they just couldn't establish what they needed to establish in
that time as opposed to just running up and down
sand hills.
Speaker 3 (03:20):
Oh yeah, running up and down sandals that you just
look at their fitness and you think, well, you know
they both fit, and then he's got to come up
with the right combination. He come up with that combination
Metcarfin Harris Devita. He's got to stick with him for
two or three games. You've got to give them a
bit of time to gel. I wouldn't be looking any
further out than three. But they should go a lot
(03:40):
better this week against me, and even though they're up
against a real class half combination and Brooks and Cherry Evans.
I mean, the way they played the other night, it
was they were on fire. So they need to really
up their game. They worries and I'm not just talking
about the house. I'm talking about one to seventeen.
Speaker 2 (03:56):
What do they have to share up first and foremost?
If you're looking at that, is it clogging up that
middles area? Is that what they're going to look at first?
Is it maybe not being so squashed when it comes
to the offense on the outside. Is there an area
where you really would look at straight away?
Speaker 1 (04:12):
Frank Well, the.
Speaker 3 (04:14):
Defense is a team responsibility in tackling his personal it's
up to the player. So you look at where the
you know, the tries were scored, and you say, now,
did the coach have the right strategy here in defense
by having the player in the right spot, And in
most cases he did, and the players just slipped off
the tackle, So the coach. You can't blame the coach
for that.
Speaker 1 (04:33):
That's it.
Speaker 3 (04:34):
And he can only pick the side the best side
he's got available. And I'm just you know, you don't
make changes. That's why I understand understood of understand keeping
the same team you can't make changes, Ducie, and that
you're going to improve it each position that he makes
the changes. You've got to have someone better to go with.
And then I look at who's and say, well, have
(04:57):
we got anyone better to go in? So I can
understand him sticking with the same team, but they really
need to show the faith back and the coach by performing.
Speaker 2 (05:05):
When you look back at that game, who stood up
for you look to the positives because you know, being
the bloody medium, we're always looking at the negatives, aren't.
We can't help ourselves. But when you look to that game,
and you looked and go, you know what, that was
a class performance. We can build on this. We know
where you're going. Where are those areas well?
Speaker 3 (05:22):
Two of us? A ship was the best player on
the park without a doubt. I thought Kirk Caple played
played a pretty good sort of a game. And guys
like barn and Fisher Haeris always give their best, you know,
I mean, you know some of those players just just didn't.
They weren't. They looked as over there still on the
pokem machines, you know, they just were They didn't have
their mind on the job. But back home this week,
(05:46):
I'd be real disappointed, as Andrew Whipson would if they
didn't really up the ante this week and push me
iny real close.
Speaker 2 (05:53):
What do you say to the players like that, because
they all know. I'm sure they are super hype, super
excited to get over to Las Vegas and the occasion
maybe overwhelmed. It was too much, But inside themselves know
they've let the club down. They'll let themselves down, their
fans down as well, so it's almost say much their
internal drive should make up for what happened two weeks back.
Speaker 3 (06:15):
And it will. It will. The players will be feeling
bad about that performance. Snow player likes to go out
there and perform like that, so they're evident their own
heads are really up there game this week. But you know,
it's just if I was a coach, I wouldn't have
even shown them a video. And I don't know what
they have, but I wouldn't have shown them a video
of that game. I just put that game aside fresh
(06:38):
next week and go out there and beat Manly.
Speaker 2 (06:40):
How do you go plan wise when you look at
the structure of their offense and how they look to
put together an attack on the spine came under a
bit of criticism for what they couldn't do. Do you
feel like they had a template on what they need
to do when they actually had the ball.
Speaker 3 (06:57):
I think they know what to do. I think they
were just a little bit rusty, and you know they
need to get well, They've got that rusty out of
the way now they had their bad game, and go
out there and there and you know, just go over
your team plays all week, your structure, your attack structure,
your defense structure, and really work on the basics of
the game. But most of all, go out there believing
(07:20):
in yourself against many and believe you can win the
game because they're not a bad side. They showed the
other night that they could put fifty on the side
if you went on. So you know, you've got to
be up for it and you've got to believe in
yourself and I hope they do.
Speaker 2 (07:33):
And Metcalf, you've got a guy who off the mark
is phenomenally quick. Maybe he didn't back himself enough in Vegas.
Maybe we didn't see enough of that from him, whereas
that's one of his I suppose stronger points in the jersey.
Speaker 3 (07:49):
I think that in this kicking game, I think that
I think the kicking game is going to be improved
within the side. I think Wade Egan's a good, honest
player at hooker, but he needs to he needs to
have more runs from dumby half because time to go.
But that only comes off quick play the balls. So
the forwards have got to do there. But too. Yeah,
(08:09):
there's improvement in every player in this team, even two
of ours a ship. Every player can improve and they
all come up and have an improved performance this week,
playing at home in front of the home crowd, home fans,
and I believe that they can. They can give many
a real run for their money.
