Speaker 1 (00:06):
You're listening to the Sports Talk podcast with Dancy Wildergrave
from News Talk zedb right running.

Speaker 2 (00:13):
Paul Higgins onto us quotes Sullivan. So Sullivan's not four
tries Balent Sullivan, what a knight for him?

Speaker 1 (00:24):
Dropped onto the.

Speaker 2 (00:25):
Vote from Higgins and Balen Sullivan with a smile a
mile wide that says that is by fourth triumph. The
Knights and the Canes are home. They're thirty five to
seventeen ahead.

Speaker 3 (00:37):
With a kickta cup. Yeah, four second half tries to
Baylon Sullivan saw the Hurricane stunned the table topping Chiefs
thirty five seventeen and they're super Rugby Derby and Wellington
on Saturday night they came from behind seventeen nine at
the break, twenty six unanswered points in the second half
courtesy of Bailon Sullivan's four tries, three of them converted
by Ruben Love. Baylon Sullivan's with us, Thanks for joining us, mate.

(00:58):
What was it like coming on quite early? You came
on with seven minutes gone when Kenny Nahlo satured a
pretty serious injury. Was a like coming on that early
from the reserves bench and into a somewhat unfamiliar position yeah,
I was.

Speaker 4 (01:14):
Actually pretty shelf shocked, you know, the whole week training
at midfield, swapping off Billy and I have had too
many rips on the wing. But yeah, I guess I
just got to trust myself and trust what I do
on the field. And yeah, I guess you get four
tries out of it.

Speaker 3 (01:34):
So once you get out there, are you are you
taking quite major guidance from from some some of the
other back line leaders. As you say, you train obviously
to cover midfield mainly, but I guess there is always
a possibility you'll end up on the wing. But are
you're getting a bit of guidance from from some of
the leaders in the back line when you get out there.

Speaker 4 (01:51):
Yeah, yeah, No, I leant on Nanny and and Reuben
quite a bit during the game and now they're happy
quite a bit through some of the moves, and yeah, no,
it was. It was really good be able to have
the opportunity to get on the wing and I guess
get the wall.

Speaker 3 (02:11):
It was halftime, it's seventeen to nine to them. They
get that runaway try just before half time to go
and seventeen to nine ahead. It was a really tight
arm wrestle of the first half. What was the mindset
like at the break? What were the conversations at the halftime.

Speaker 4 (02:26):
It was actually pretty calm. The boys were well, we
had a BAX meeting and the boys are really colm
and we were talking. We're real clear on what our
next jobs needed to be. And I guess it was
just down to executing it. And yeah, the boys are
the forwards the depart as well, and yeah, I guess
it all came together and that's sick enough, and it

(02:46):
was really cool.

Speaker 3 (02:47):
And the tries just started to flow. Forty six minutes,
fifty ninth, sixty fifth, seventy fourth. Why do you think
everything just came your way?

Speaker 4 (02:58):
I guess sure, Stevenson going on on the naughty chair,
I think we exploited the opportunity going wide and kickspace behind.
So yeah, I think we did really well in that
space and took our opportunities, and yeah, I guess it
paid off.

Speaker 3 (03:16):
How important and and needed was this win off the
back of a really good performance against the Brumbies a
week ago, back to back wins for just the second
time this season. How important was this this win to
stay firmly in the top six. Conversation?

Speaker 4 (03:31):
Yeah, like I guess it's related. It's really important not
only just for the table, but for us as a team,
Like we really start to win every game and you know,
some goods have just ever been going our way. So
I think as a team connected us a lot more.
And it goes to show that our trainings are how

(03:53):
do you prove from the pudding? And yeah, so it's
it's really cool to actually do what we're doing at
training and putting out on the field.

Speaker 3 (04:01):
Was there any frustration around the inconsistency, because, as you say,
you know there was there's games where you you look
a million dollars and then you know the next week
it doesn't quite go your why you're starting to buy
the looks of it anyway, build some consistency. Is it
frustrating when it doesn't come together for you on the
field sometimes?

Speaker 4 (04:18):
Yeah, definitely, Like it's like playing those eight games before
what earlier in the season were starting and it's done.
The midfielders, like, it was really frustrating because I know
how good our team actually is and we all know
it ourselves, and every time we come back into the
change rooms after a loss, it's isn't it always in

(04:39):
our own way? So I guess it was good to
get out of our own ways, and yeah, put on
a performance that we did last night, so it was
pretty awesome.

Speaker 3 (04:47):
And you started the first nine games of the season
in the centers. I know that that thirteen jersey is
your favorite jersey. How did you handle the challenge of
moving into the reserves with the return of Bully Propter.

Speaker 4 (04:59):
Yeah, obviously a little bit Goetters, but like I'm happy
to step down or step aside to let him come through.
Like he's an awesome player and I really got a
lot of respect from and yeah, and he's performing really
well with the moment, and you know, why not keep

(05:20):
him in that jersey? And you know, obviously I'm pretty
good about it, but it's a bit of another team,
and you know, I'm just here to make sure our
team's making their top final in their SEVERER finals. Yeah,
obviously get.

Speaker 3 (05:33):
It, But that is what it is. And look, we
don't know the extent of Kenney's injury. I guess we'll
find that out in the next little while. But if
there is a vacancy on the wing, i'd imagine you'd
be pretty happy to put your hand up to Philip.

Speaker 4 (05:46):
Yeah. One hundred. Like I've played a lot of FBC
on the wing when I was previously at the Chiefs
here obviously i played on the ring, and you know,
it's a place that I've always not disregarded, but I've
always you know, I'd always beat myself on the wing
and been in the most of Itbviously, you go a

(06:06):
lot more more, but you know, wingers, you get busy,
you get Chris like that. But yeah, that's definitely opportunity
I'm going to take in. Hopefully Kenny's it's not as
serious as as we were thinking as at the moment, so.

Speaker 3 (06:23):
Yeah, yeah, we'll keep eyes on it. And milestone max
for Brad and your say, his fiftieth game for the Hurricanes.
I know milestones like these aren't necessarily you know, significant
till afterwards, but do you use milestones like that as
a bit of extra fuel for for certain games when
they do come up for your teammates.

Speaker 4 (06:42):
Yeah, for sure, Like friends an awesome player, and he's
an awesome man off the field, so to get one
up for him as yeah, that makes it a lot special.
The boys had a lot more fuel in the in
the tank towards the end of the game because of it,
and yeah, no, definitely deserves are winning. Definitely deserves fifty
games and.

Speaker 3 (07:00):
To the bye week now as well. Get a week
after you get you're gonna get away. What are you
going to have again to be in the bye week?

Speaker 4 (07:06):
Yeah, I talk to my partner about well, you know,
we'll organize some link and hopefully you you'll be able
to kick the feet off and do a bit of
training here and there. So yeah, I'm looking forward to
the time off.

Speaker 3 (07:18):
I bet well. Bailing with four tries, I mean, it
was just awesome to watch. Anyone caught your teammates off guard.
We had both Bully Procter and du plus C on
the radio after the game and neither of them knew Listen,
did he get four?

Speaker 4 (07:28):
Did he get four?

Speaker 3 (07:30):
We'll asking me another come on, boys, love it correct
on last night. I look forward seeing how the rest
of the season plays out.

Speaker 4 (07:38):
Yeah, I know me too, brother. Awesome man, Thank you
very much.

Speaker 3 (07:40):
Thank you bailing Bailon Sullivan their four try hero for
the Hurricanes on the weekend.
