Speaker 3 (00:33):

eighty ten eighty free phone number nation wide. You can

chat that's nine two z b z B if you must.
Darcy Darcy at Newstalk zb dot co, dot n Z.
(01:15):
A number of different ways. Carrier pigeons, carrier pigeons, homing
pigeons will not work.
Speaker 2 (01:21):
They don't get through security. What have we got coming
up here on tonight's program.
Speaker 3 (01:25):
Well, later on the piece, we will talk to eight
hundred foot high fast bowler Kyle Jamison. Now that the
international home window has been announced by and he's selling
cricket for both the black Caps the white ferns as well.
There's a lot going on, but not a great deal
(01:47):
going on after the turn of the new year. But
we'll talk to Kyle about that anyway, and then what
he's been up to and doing a story coming out today.
A few weeks ago we had a guy called Cory
Kennett on the program, chief executive officer of the Entophreneur Company.
Speaker 2 (02:05):
Rugby Football Union.
Speaker 3 (02:07):
They decided as a group, as a unit as one
that any more grief from the sideline aimed at the referees,
they will not have it. They will not put up
with it. They put a line in the sand.
Speaker 2 (02:20):
Instead.
Speaker 3 (02:20):
If anyone does this, we're going to cancel an entire weekends.
Not CASU, We'll postpone an entire weekends rugby. Everybody from
the rippers and the juniors right up to the old buggers,
a whole lot gone. So what's just happened, Well, someone's
gone over the line. There's been abuse, has been referee
(02:43):
abuse and as a direct result at for them on
a Carverty, Rugby Football Union have postponed the entire weekends
rugby coming up. The whole weekend. You push me, old
push back, that's figurative of course to be literal when
we're talking about something like this. But we're going to
be joined by Corey kenn It shortly to explain what happened,
(03:05):
what happens, what the reaction has been like around the community.
Then i'd like your calls on oh, eight hundred and
eighty ten eighty, your incessary reaction to what you held
myself and Corey, whether it's a good thing, a bad thing,
whether it's a little over the top, whether it's necessary,
if it's going to work or not, And if indeed
(03:26):
it is as thick on the ground as we lead
to believe, I think there might be a few unions
head in the sand, blankets up over their eyes, going
it doesn't happen here, not hotter for newer carpety they
know it does.
Speaker 2 (03:40):
Ain't putting up with it anymore.
Speaker 3 (03:41):
This is a fascinating, important, albeit sad story for New
Zealander rugby, So stick around. Corey Kennett joins us next.
But before we do that, let's do this. And in
sport today, Bara Junior is one of the Globes Famed
of football. Teams now have another reason to be talked about.
Speaker 2 (04:03):
It's not a good one.
Speaker 3 (04:05):
They drew with awkand FC the FIFA club at World
Cup one. All was the final score that nextly knocked
Boker out of the comp and left the Argentine media
crestfallen depressed. Even the man who scored the goal, Christian Gray,
has thanked the army of volunteers from back in the
AKA that got them there in the first place.
Speaker 4 (04:28):
We rely on volunteers. We don't have a lot of money,
plus they have.
Speaker 2 (04:32):
I've ha been for the boys.
Speaker 4 (04:33):
It's been a long, a long four years, to be honest,
building up to this.
Speaker 5 (04:37):
I think we got what we did do.
Speaker 3 (04:38):
They shipped sixteen goals in two games and then they
turn around and draw with Boker. Junior's supercar driver Matt
Pain will make a star turn at Roapunat next year
at the second leg of the supercar Kiwi double header
set for April. It was announced today that Topaul will
host the first leg next weekend off down to christ
(04:59):
Church and they'll get the leg to Chocolates that Matt
hasn't raced there.
Speaker 6 (05:04):
Pretty strange really, but I think it's to be better
the same story for everyone, So for sure there'll be
people coming over and doing some laps in some other cars,
and I think I'll definitely take that opportunity. And yeah,
I think it's going to be a great week in
the race well.
Speaker 3 (05:18):
As in Auckland. And now, who was born and bred
in Canterbury. I could stand there and go typically Aucklander
hasn't even been to Antler Perona of a race cars
down there, but that would be so underwhelming, so I.
Speaker 2 (05:30):
Won't and I did.
Speaker 3 (05:32):
I think more than a few people have driven there,
Matt just saying, I'd expect that Ryan Wood spent plenty
of time then, and I know Andre Hoimgartner has as well.
But this is so good for the people of christ
It's enough already to break his basketball team their top
browser after that States of America. It's a part of
a recruitment drive. Coach Corpenhan, they owner Mitchell and the
(05:55):
Basketball operation CEO manager director. I'm not quite sure the
name of president, the basketball operations president. That's it, Dylan
Boucher going to Vegas for the NBA Summer League. That's right,
isn't it.
Speaker 4 (06:10):
Dyling guys that will be getting showcased by their agents
up in Las Vegas. We'll be able to again have
some more names coming on our roster. But we'll go
up here with a pretty clear picture of the players
we want to look at and delve a little deeper
into them.
Speaker 3 (06:22):
And Maighty AB captain Kurt Eckland is unconcerned at the
short build up to this weekend's opening fixed for them
up against the Japan fifteen in Tokyo. See, it doesn't
case fine.
Speaker 7 (06:36):
We've got two chaining days on the field before our
first game.
Speaker 3 (06:39):
So you know, all these guys a good rugby players,
A few of us have played together before, a few
of us haven't.
Speaker 7 (06:44):
But like I said, that's called the me a molder rugby.
It seems to just jails.
Speaker 2 (06:47):
Indeed it does.
Speaker 3 (06:48):
And that's sport today, Tom. And it's after seven. Story
of the day. They've made good on their promise to
postpone rugby in hot Ifinua Carpity if there were further
repeats of atrocious sideline the behavior directed at the referee.
Speaker 2 (07:06):
Wow, they've done it. And we are joined now by
the chief.
Speaker 3 (07:09):
Executive officer of the HoTT Off New Carpety Rugby Union.
He joins us now, Corey Kennett. Corey good evening, Hey, Darcy. Wow,
looks like it finally happened. For those who don't know,
it was only a few weeks ago that Corey Kennet
and the crew at HoTT of Copany Rugby Football Union
(07:29):
decided if there was going to be any problems on
the field or sideline specifically, they would can the entire
following weekend. Corey, it's come to that, which in itself
is sad. Just tell us or lead us up to
what happened here.
Speaker 7 (07:45):
Yeah, as you mentioned, look, we you a line in
the sand. We made our statement, we said what we
were going to do in support of our hard working
volunteer match officials, referees, and we've been monitoringing the situation
very carefully and sadly. Last weekend an event that met
(08:07):
the threshold. So through consultation from our whole rugby ecosystem,
all of our affiliated associations, our clubs, our Rugby Committee
and their board, they have all unanimously voted to pull
the trigger. So as a result of this deplorable behavior,
there will be no rugby this coming weekend twenty eighth
(08:31):
within hodophoneur Carpety.
Speaker 3 (08:33):
Can you describe the situation that unfolded, Corey?
Speaker 7 (08:37):
I have to be cognizant, Darcy that it is under
a judicial process, but what I can say is it
was abhorrent and the abuse was from multiple layers. We're
talking about people that are at games, spectators, players, team
team management, to the point that at the end of
(08:58):
the game, the referee, the end of the good individuals,
good public individuals. We're so concerned about the referee safety
that he was escorted to his car.
Speaker 3 (09:11):
So this is all targeted at the referee from a
number of different parties at the game itself.
Speaker 7 (09:17):
Yeah, and as we talked about last time, Darcy, this
is a nationwide epidemic. And what we've had since we've
made our statement is innumerable amount of calls telling us, hey,
this is happening in our space, this is happening, that
is happening. You know, people go to a game, they've
just lost a lot of people. Sorry, some people that
(09:40):
go to the games have just lost their their their standards,
their respect, their you know, just their humanity to what
these people are trying to do. These individuals, these volunteers,
the time they've given up you know, their service, just
genuine service. And so it is never one area. It
has never just one team or one club. You know,
(10:04):
probably the biggest message to come out of this. This
is a nationwide epidemic and we just need everybody to
stand up for our referees so that they can feel
supported and feel safe in doing the amazing job they do.
Speaker 3 (10:18):
Can you be more precisive where this happened and what
level are we talking about? What legal they're seen? Is
at school kids?
Speaker 2 (10:25):
What is this once?
Speaker 7 (10:27):
Aga know where we go into too many specific details,
but as if to say that this particular incident was
at college rugby, Okay, what's.
Speaker 3 (10:37):
The pushback being like or what's the reaction being like
from everybody involved with hotophenom carpety Rugby? And this is
right through the leivers. You said you spoke with a
lot of different people, everybody engaged in it. So what
was the general reaction when you did as you said? Paul?
Speaker 2 (10:55):
The trigger? Isn't it funny?
Speaker 8 (10:57):
Mate?
Speaker 7 (10:57):
When you when you're confronted with something that's horrendous and negative,
you always get you get green shoots of positivity and
you sp you see people's integrity come through. We have
had unanimous positive support that.
Speaker 2 (11:11):
We need to do this.
Speaker 7 (11:14):
Where were we you know, we've got so that's representatives
of junior rugby this is little kids ripper rugby, so
that won't be played this weekend. We got Premier Yere,
the best, the best rugby players in our province, they
won't be playing this weekend. We've got clubs that have
got Old Timers Day scheduled for this coming weekend. They
support it. They've postponed there old Timers Days. You know,
(11:36):
we got the whole ecosystem and just so proud of
our people that have that have stood up and saying
this is not good enough. We're not gonna We're not
gonna walk past the standard. We're gonna We're going to
do something. So it's gonna hurt. We all love our footy,
you know, it's it's it's everything to us. But we
(11:58):
feel that if we did nothing, you know what, what
sort of message is that sending to the people that
commit that you know this this sort of crap.
Speaker 3 (12:09):
Besides Corey missing out on the fact is the games himself.
How else will this hurt community Rugby, hoff A, Carpity Rugby.
What else is going to hit you?
Speaker 7 (12:20):
You know, just the fact that all of our all
of our clubs and our schools, you know that they
are the lightning rod, the collection point for just a
huge amount of positivity, you know. So, yeah, it's missing
out of the games, but everybody has a fantastic experience
like it does up and down the country when they
get together. So missing out on that just to catch
(12:41):
up positivity.
Speaker 3 (12:44):
You're not taking a financial you're not taking a financial
either or anything like that. That's not going to hit
you in your pocket.
Speaker 7 (12:49):
Or look for clubs, it will every every the same
with every club up and down the country. Every every
time clubs host the game, there will be a little
bit of revenue. So yep, there will there will be.
There will be some financial loss in that regard for us,
those circumstances that are that are mitigated by the the
(13:12):
overall greater good.
Speaker 3 (13:15):
What happens now, what's the next point of action? Plainly
not going to be playing across the grades this weekend
and you said it's going to be looked at if
this is at an NS at our level, how does
this develop from now on in?
Speaker 2 (13:28):
Yeah?
Speaker 7 (13:29):
Yeah, so so for us, you know then the is
we've said in our previous statement, this this round of
games will be will be picked up. Our competition has
including this round of games four weeks to go into
a final of our club rugby, college rugby and junior rugby.
More so so for us going forward, you know, we
(13:55):
we don't have a huge amount of weeks into the season,
but then so those will be picked up. In regards
to jed R would lead them to to to speak
about that, and we know that they support our decision.
And in regards to maybe the other provincial unions up
(14:15):
and down the country, that's up to them how they
handle it, but I know that we've had huge amounts
of messages of support from other provincial unions and how
they're trying to address the very same mission.
Speaker 3 (14:27):
It's all under review, but likely sanctions. The offending parties
may be never allowed back to these grounds or any
grounds involved, as far as you can go here.
Speaker 7 (14:38):
Corey, Well, what I can talk about, Darcy is previous
incidents that are somewhat similar and so yes, yes, so
in previous incidences that have some similarities in years past, Yeah,
big sanctions. You know, we've had people suspended for multiple years.
Speaker 2 (14:59):
We've had we've had.
Speaker 7 (15:01):
Teams be suspended if you like, from competition. There's a
whole array of options that are open and when you
get all of the rugby ecosystem, and in particular the
bodies that look after the compliance in the judicial sector
buying into the copupper that we're not going to accept this.
Then when people start coming up for these sort of breaches,
(15:24):
it's inevitable that the sanctions are going to get tougher
and tougher and tougher.
Speaker 3 (15:28):
People are naturally going to be very interested in what
happened to where it was. When does all that like
to be likely to be revealed? When's this investigation going
to be finished? When do we find out more?
Speaker 8 (15:39):
Yeah?
Speaker 7 (15:39):
So the judicial process is underway, so I think that
will probably be completed within this week, probably by this
time next week, I would say, and then we'll.
Speaker 3 (15:50):
Know more on behalf of everyone who plays rugby at
every level. I think you and hot Off Noil Company
Rugby are doing a fantastic, much needed thing. It's very
sad to say it is required and you have to
put the hammer down, but we need people like you
and your union standing up for what's right. So good
on you, Corey, Good on you and your members.
Speaker 7 (16:10):
You just thank you, Darcy for the support and to
all your listeners, all the phone calls and messages support.
It's greatly appreciated, and you just put a put a
challenge out for everybody to just to stand up and
support our referees up and down the country and we'll
make this a better place.
Speaker 9 (16:26):
You hear it from the biggest names and sports and men.
Have your say on eighty Sports Talk or more on
your home of sports news talks.
Speaker 3 (16:35):
It be seven to tween ty two, correct ken it there.
It's the CEO of hot A for Newa Cup. The
rugby union rugby football union is still very old school there.
This is great news but simultaneously terrible news. It's great
news in the fact that the line in the sand
(16:55):
has been drawn and off A carpety said, well, we're
not going to be pushed back. This has happened, and
we're going to postpone an entire round of rugby, not cancel,
postpone an entire round of rugby. We're not putting up
with us anymore. There's our line. Don't so terrible that
it's still happening, but brilliant that I was from a
(17:17):
carpety have got the nuts to stand up? Go nah.
I'm not quite sure if it's Corey described in about
the financial implications old school days when teams come in
from out of you know, old players come in from
out of town and stay and donate to the to
(17:38):
the team, and so on and so forth. It's going
to do some damage. Maybe not a massive amount of
financial damage, but the spirit of the game basically gets
deflated over the whole weekend because of the actions of
a few clowns. I shouldn't say that, because clowns are fun.
(17:59):
Clowns throw cream pies and have squirting flowers and ride
little bikes. I'd like to use a stronger word than clowns,
but I'll be taken off as I want. I hope
that whatever happens at the end of this investigation, the
perpetrators have the full force of whatever he can checked at. Then,
(18:22):
the Facebook post reads on the twenty first germ referee
officiating a rugby match between Company Raby football Union college
team in a visiting school side, but subjected to serious
verbal abuse and physical intimidation. The abuse was the referee
throughout the match by multiple visiting individuals, culminating in a
situation so concerning that members of the public felt compelled
(18:43):
to escort the referee to his vehicle finaling their game
for his safety. Half copany paul Boats behavior. They look
after the match officials. The conduct there's no place in
their game. It will not be tolerated. On the twenty
seventh of May, they released a statement saying that further
instances of referee abuse would trigger mediate decisive action. And
(19:08):
they've done that. They've backed themselves up that commitment. They've
decided that rugby union on Saturday will be postponed. Junior, college,
grade and senior matches difficult, bit necessary and by the
sounds of it, complete buying from right across the district.
(19:31):
People don't want to referee the game. And I'd suggest
that Paul is getting smaller because of actions of.
Speaker 2 (19:40):
A few people.
Speaker 3 (19:43):
It's not everybody, but it only takes a few bad
eggs to wreck everybody and wreck it for everybody. So
what they're doing here is saying it's got to be
self policed. Do you want your community game ruined by
a couple of foul mouth, aggressive and violent yobs. No
you don't, So don't stand there and listen, to stand
(20:04):
there and put up with it. Do something. It's in
your hands. Text in on nineteen niney two that CBZB
standard text charge I supply I can give us a
call eight hundred eighty ten eighty. Cory said, this is
all over the country, and I think from what I
can gather that they are the only union that are
(20:26):
standing up and saying we need to do something about this.
And I suspect there are other unions. I don't know
this for sure, but I suspect there are other.
Speaker 2 (20:34):
Unions that have giving it.
Speaker 3 (20:36):
The Ostrich it's not aiming here, We're not seeing it. No,
it's not acting with us. No, No worry about No,
it's fine, not work. Something has to change, something has
to stop, and hower for now, Carpity are.
Speaker 2 (20:48):
Doing brilliant work by doing this. So my first.
Speaker 3 (20:52):
Question to you, O eight one hundred and eighty ten eighty.
Have they done the right thing?
Speaker 2 (20:56):
Plainly? I think they have.
Speaker 3 (21:00):
Will this trigger other unions to do the same thing?
And should it? I'd say yes, it should.
Speaker 2 (21:10):
They've got their.
Speaker 3 (21:11):
Line in the sand, They've acted on that, They've stood there.
Now everybody knows everybody else needs to do the same thing. Right,
Tell me I'm right, tell me I'm wrong. I light
one hundred eighty ten eighty. I'd love to hear from you.
Twenty seven minutes after seven this is news talks.
Speaker 1 (21:27):
It be no if I could kill the thing that
makes yourself so done.
Speaker 9 (21:36):
The right call is your call on eight hundred eighty
ten eighty sports talk, call on your home of sports
news talks.
Speaker 5 (21:43):
It be.
Speaker 1 (21:46):
The thing that I've gone sports.
Speaker 3 (21:54):
I've got news Talks EBM Darcy water Grave for forty calls.
I light one hundred and eighty ten eighty hot if
now coveredy Rugby Football Union. They have said enough, it's enough.
They promised that postponed games if there were any aggression
directed toward the referees.
Speaker 2 (22:10):
In their union.
Speaker 3 (22:11):
It was last weekend, so they said, fine, nobody comes
this weekend.
Speaker 2 (22:16):
It is done.
Speaker 3 (22:22):
The comments on the Facebook page are pretty fascinating. I've
got a couple of texts to read out for you
as well. This is the right decision, right, this should
be done. How would you cope with this at your club,
at your in your union if this happened from up above?
(22:45):
How would your kids cope with us if suddenly they
were told they can't play rugby this weekend because some
month thought was a good idea to have a crack
at the referee. If terrible, wouldn't you you break their hearts,
but it is for the greater good. Will it work?
(23:06):
Will this work? And I'd suggest the only way this
will work long term is that if other unions climb
in as well. It shouldn't be up to one union.
What a for newer corpany to do this, that they
have taken the first step. All the other unions are
(23:29):
going to join in now surely and say, you know what,
we're with you. We're not doing this And that means
it's self policed. And the thugs and the foul mouthed
morons who insist on cracking at the referee, threatening the referees,
manhandling the referees no longer have a platform from which
(23:51):
to work, do you agree, Biggest Still, is this something
that the endst have to go? You know what kind
of the same thing we're running this whole show up us.
Speaker 2 (24:03):
This is what you've got to do.
Speaker 3 (24:06):
Will it take something from a high level in order
to trigger this to occur all over the nation? Like
the quote from Corey Kennett, the CEO, this will provide
time to reflect and consider what kind of rugby environment
we are creating and enabling. We must take collective responsibility
(24:30):
to protect our referees uphold the manna of our game
and ensure that rugby remains a safe and respect environment
for everyone involved. The standard you walk past is the
standard you accept. Stand up and show your support for
our match officials. Perfect you support this? You want to
(24:55):
see this happen at your own club? Is it as
widespread as has been indicated? And suggest this is not
a one off situation. It's not an issue.
Speaker 2 (25:08):
You know it's not.
Speaker 3 (25:12):
But we, the people, we can stop this. The fans,
the players, the administrators, the parents, everybody. Your responsibility, the
power is with you. Oh, eight hundred and eighty ten eighty.
I'd love to hear your thoughts on this. You may
(25:33):
have experienced it yourself, you may have seen it happen.
I run through some texts. In the interim, Angus says
it's utterly beyond me that the perpetrators aren't posted on
social media. I don't know, Angus. Maybe maybe it will
happen in somebody else's message.
Speaker 2 (25:54):
I won't read it.
Speaker 3 (25:55):
Ver betim suggesting that some of the towns in the
districts aren't the best and they're based on some pretty
flimsy morals. But I'm not going to name towns. All
the morals they were suggesting because it would get me
taken off here it's pretty strong text. Roscoe writes Darts.
There was a dog shot of a shoulder charge on
(26:16):
a ref and Paranaki senior rugby last week, which is
so far being hidden from the media. After knocking the
reef over, he gave the crowd the thumbs up.
Speaker 2 (26:24):
Apparently he's gone to run.
Speaker 3 (26:25):
Into Australia right for real. Thanks for that, Roscoe. You
stand there and watch the standard you walk past is
the standard you accept while h and K Union well
done and standing out for the refs. Good to see
the smaller union showing their bagger unions how to tackle
(26:45):
our bago issues. Take somebody right, somebody set this in
motion and I would like to see more of this.
Any support out there? Oh eight hundred eighty ten eighty
As Sally writes, gosh, I feel sick for the referee.
(27:06):
It takes a village to make change and good on
Hota fanure, Come on you Zeeland. Let's stands tough on
issues like this. Yes, Sally, it's been it's been started,
so let's all finish it, I believe, writes Camera and
(27:26):
the Rugby union issue does absolutely need to be addressed
by public policing. I think the problem needs to be
solved from the route, which is in fact just being
decent people. Rugby is very passionate sport to the fan
base around our country shows. But besides that, the precious referees,
who are awful and likely volunteer without compensation, never deserve
(27:48):
unkind behavior from a country that's known for peace and loveliness.
I don't know if we are.
Speaker 2 (27:53):
Known for peace and lovelies, but you know, there you.
Speaker 3 (27:55):
Go flects badly on all of us with a rugby
mad nation. We love the game, built a global reputation
on it. If you believe in z R. How do
we put up with this? Are we afraid? Do we
not want to stand there when someone's mouthing off at
the referee and go, oh, don't power to the people.
(28:19):
The more of you do it, the less likely you
are to have to deal with any repercussions from the
people on the sideline mouthing off. James said, Read the
rugby banning. It's it's long overdue. Other sports need to
follow Netbook Soccer League. It's time we respect the volunteer officials. Yes, James.
(28:42):
It is Darcy my Son is a referee. Palmers the
North called a game off for the bad and violent play.
It was threatened to be got at in the car park.
Players from both sides, everybody has responsibility for this.
Speaker 2 (28:58):
Seven seven.
Speaker 3 (29:01):
Up next, we're going to talk a bit of cricket.
Will be joined by Carl Jamison because the schedule for
the summer of cricket's been released. To be fair, it's
the spring of cricket. We'll get further into that with
Carle Jameson, who joins us next here on the News
Talks The.
Speaker 4 (29:17):
Bays till the Sun.
Speaker 3 (29:36):
Kyle jameson just around the corner, new schedule for the
black Caps and the White Ferns.
Speaker 2 (29:42):
International cricket coming out.
Speaker 3 (29:43):
I say the spring of cricket because post Christmas is
a World Cup going on as far as the T
twenties consent, and then after the T twenty World Cup
was confuses me that South Africans are coming over for
some more tea twenties. But we've got plenty of cricket
between wait for it, October and Christmas. The best time
(30:07):
for cricketer there in New Zealand.
Speaker 2 (30:08):
But it's cricket all.
Speaker 3 (30:09):
The same, and there is a three test series in
December to discuss that. Kyle joins us. Surely this is went
through a few more texts for you around the situation
with what if now Cory Rugby Football Union. Maybe on
the referee shirts it needs to say I'm not paid,
this is my own time. I drove him my own car,
he's my own petrol. Probably wouldn't work that, Richard people,
(30:31):
that's stupid. They're going to tee off at the rest.
They probably can't read. Southend has the same issues according
to Ed and it needs addressing to a point that
does Darcy. I totally agree. I'm fed up with the
buffheads and sold in the refs. I've never seen anyone
be physically attacked. It's a total disgrace. That's again from
the South. Kristen from in the Cargo, Darcy, I'm surprised
(30:55):
it's taken this long to do something. Good job caperdi Carpandy.
All right. My husband is a reef and it's blokes
in their twenties to thirties drinking on the sidelines and
get really can't tolerate. Watching makes me angry that they
can be so rude and they have no confidence to
get out there and do it themselves. And Dave writes Darcy,
(31:17):
when I played first fifteen rugby, we cheered the opposition.
Speaker 2 (31:20):
Off plus the referee enlightnesment.
Speaker 3 (31:23):
So it should be like that. It's changed though. It's
a societal issue. These kids on the sideline, the people
on the sideline, they didn't just pick this up off
the TV. Right, This comes from family, This comes from
inherent behavior.
Speaker 2 (31:41):
They just stopped lecturing.
Speaker 3 (31:43):
I just hope that the rest of New Zealand rugby
taking leaf out of the book of hottyfino a Carpiti.
Speaker 2 (31:48):
And stand up and go No.
Speaker 3 (31:52):
Right, let's move away to the wonderful wide world of cricket.
Speaker 8 (31:56):
And we're joined now by Kyle Jamison, one of our
weapons and the cricketing franchise, to talk about this new
schedule that's been released today by en ZID Cricket. A Kyle,
how are you.
Speaker 3 (32:11):
I'm very good looking forward to summer. We all are
through winter, but you guys are on there. You're up
and running. The schedule has been announced. There's some big
teams coming over.
Speaker 5 (32:22):
Yeah. Yeah, Look, it's nice to look forward to summer
and we're sort of the depths of winter at the moment.
But you're, like you said, something to look forward to,
and yeah, I got a pretty pretty exciting schedule to
sort of lock our eyes onto as well, which is good.
Speaker 3 (32:34):
It starts off with a person and row. There are
three games at the mount at the start of October.
What do you know about the weather in the mountain October?
Speaker 2 (32:44):
It's got to be better than christ.
Speaker 5 (32:45):
Yet, surely, well it has to be. I know that
the T twenty trice there is here. A couple of
years ago, I think Pakistan and Bangladesh landed in here
and it was snowing. So as long as it's not
snow and I think I think we're doing better than that.
But yeah, obviously like a really exciting start to the
summit's you know, obviously quite early, but to have the
Aussies over here and to have those three two twenties
in the mount will be a great way to kick
(33:05):
things off, for sure.
Speaker 3 (33:06):
What are you going to do in the interim? I've
come back from a bit of a stint in the IPL.
You went to the Pakistan League as well, and then
kind of had to disappear understandably, So now you're back
having a bit of a relax. Well, what kind of
build up do you have to something quite important?
Speaker 1 (33:20):
Is it?
Speaker 3 (33:21):
Three one days against the Australians.
Speaker 5 (33:23):
Yeah, we just kind of I guess it's a good
chance to get a bit of conditioning in and that
sort of thing. Yeah, I think, especially you know, for
someone like myself off the back of the last couple
of years, just to I guess, consolidate the you know,
I guess where your body's at and make sure that's
still on top of things, you know, with the end
of the future, and ye're just trying to trying to
give your body a bit of love and also a
bit of family time too. So that's kind of kind
of keeps you occupied for sure.
Speaker 3 (33:44):
But you're going to have to roll your arm over
at some stage, aren't you. You're going to go and
play club cricket for a bit or something. How does
that work?
Speaker 5 (33:51):
No, just just kind of train around home. So yeah,
like I certainly had a fair bit of cricket over
the last little six months, and yeah, we'll just kind
of keep training and keep trying to I just fine
tune things a little bit. And I guess, like if
there is if there is some cricket towards I guess
the back end of the winter, then might might have
a way look at that, But for now it's this
kind of big sort of conditioning block to make sure
(34:12):
the body's ready for a big for a big sort
of the next twelve months.
Speaker 3 (34:15):
Yeah, Kyle, you mentioned your body, so I'll carry on
with it. How is it hanging in there? Because like
most big fast ballers, you do have our shoes. Where
are we at at the moment? You're hungdi on? Presuming
it feeling good? You've lost some weight, you put some
one I don't know, how are you floating?
Speaker 5 (34:31):
Body is really good? Look at a did a lot
of work last year, pretty much had to go back
to scratch and rebuild, rebuild from you know, right from
the beginning, found a whole heap of stuff that needed
to be addressed. And you know we've gone about doing that.
So I think this is you know, the best place
my body's my body's been and probably at any stage
in my career. And yeah, just you know, obviously mindful
(34:54):
that what we do is not not necessarily easiest on
the body. And you know, there's been a bit of
history there, but like certainly in a certainly in a
really good place at the moment.
Speaker 3 (35:02):
What did you identify as to what you had to change,
because that can't be the easiest thing to do. You've
got a career, you've got a wonderful career international cricket,
but you've got to rebuild anything specifically cart.
Speaker 5 (35:14):
Yeah, pretty much pretty much everything, to be fair, which
was the kind of I guess in a way it was.
It was kind of good, I guess. I was staring
down the barrel of of a long rehab. But I
was also like, if I can kind of, I guess,
be playing international cricket, and you know, I couldn't have
really been any further from being fit for purpose if
I tried, really and I was able to kind of,
(35:34):
I guess, compete at the international level. So now I
feel like with those building blocks in place, it will
give me a really good sort of foundation to you
to really attack the stuff moving forward.
Speaker 3 (35:43):
There's only three tests, which to the traditionalists, to miserable
old buggers like me, is a wee bit sad. But
you do have a T twenty World Cup coming up,
so white ball is prevalent been expanded. So three tests
against the West Indy still in December, I think it is.
You'd be more than excited about that because this is
this is the peak.
Speaker 4 (36:03):
Isn't it.
Speaker 5 (36:04):
Yeah, well, I think I think just the chance to
have a sort of I guess, stretched out test series.
How often often we're playing two tests series, So to have,
you know, to have a three tests series, it's nice
and kind of gives you a chance to really settle
into red bull cricket often and it's kind of plugged
in amongst the whole bunch of white ball and you're
kind of trying to to and throw between the formats.
So to kind of have a you know, really like
(36:26):
a month of December where you can just really focus
on red bulls obviously exciting for the guys, and like
you said, teacher in the World Cup coming after the
start of next year, so there is a bit of
a white ball focus. But nice that I guess that
month of December can be just solely on red bull cricket.
Speaker 3 (36:40):
And it's the start of the World Test Championship. Here
we go again, and after success first time around, you
be reasonably keen to get back up the top of
It's one Test at a time, isn't that gal?
Speaker 5 (36:51):
Yeah, it is, Yeah, I think you know, the test
cycle with the I guess, trying to get to the
finals a two year process, right, So as much as
you kind of want to be back there, and we
obviously saw source Arika get o the line you know,
the other week, it's actually don't want to get back
and but like said, it's just about each test and
each series is that you know as its own piece.
It's just there's so many moving parts to it, and
(37:12):
you know, and so much can happen that you can't
really afford to look too to look too far ahead.
Speaker 3 (37:17):
As far as the workloaders concern, what are you looking
at carrying because we mentioned before you've got to be
careful with yourself.
Speaker 2 (37:24):
Are you looking at going the whole hog?
Speaker 5 (37:26):
Or Yeah, I think I'm, like I said, my body's
in the best place has ever been. So I mean,
if I feel like if I was I was able
to at least to some capacity play all three formats
in the past, is I'm an even greater chance of
doing that moving forward? It's just I guess having the
discussions with the coaches and the powers that powers that BEATA,
you know, have a really detailed plan around what the
(37:48):
what the schedule crowd looks like and just be a
little bit more planned out. They're reactive as we have
been in the past. But yeah, like I said, my
body is in a really good place, and yeah, I
think all three forms are certainly still on the table.
Speaker 3 (38:01):
Well, you've got three T twenties to start with against Australia,
then there's another one, two three up against England's mon
Dane inter Nationals. Then you've got to pile against the
West Indies, and then well, look, you're not going to
be sure of practice when it comes to the World Cup, now,
are you.
Speaker 7 (38:16):
No.
Speaker 5 (38:16):
No, it's good and I think that's what's kind of
nice about the schedules. It does give you a chunk
of time playing the format before the World Cup. I think,
you know, with the nature of it, some schedules nowadays
you sort of to and fro a lot and you
don't get a sort of chunk of time to really
dedicate to one form of the game. And you know,
it's sort of my experience at the start of the year,
I got to play a whole super Semetia Canabry and
I just loved being able to string together twelve T
(38:38):
twenty games in a row and kind of reflect in
that space and learn in that space when you don't
really get that opportunity too much. So you have to
have a big chunk of white ball cricket leading into
World Cup's going to be hugely beneficial.
Speaker 3 (38:50):
Reckon from the first of October right the way through
until the thirteenth and November. That's a whole pile of
T twenties through there. There's a couple of odioies thrown
on as well. You're definitely going to be well, what worked,
and Kyle, anything else, anything else we needs now about
you looking forward to the season, even though it's months away.
(39:11):
You obviously you're feeling bloody good about yourself.
Speaker 5 (39:14):
Yeah, yeah, feeling good. Look, I'm I'm really excited about
where I'm going to be. It's just kind of about
a week and a half into a bit of a
twelve week training block, So got some pretty pretty lofty
goals around where I want to get to, you know,
come come the first of October. So I'm just really
excited to sort of to lock into that and and
to kind of come out and hit the summer running.
Speaker 3 (39:34):
We'll let you go, but one last thing You've got
to tell us. You started it. What are the lofty goals?
Give us a couple.
Speaker 5 (39:39):
There's a little bit of a little bit of stuff
on the on the speed radar, so hopefully that that
ticks up a notch, that'll be that'll be the big one.
If I don't, if I don't quite get there, then
maybe the ones hasn't quite worked.
Speaker 3 (39:50):
Have you got to figure have you got a number
you want to hurt?
Speaker 5 (39:53):
Well, I think it ideally starts with a one and
a four like that's that's where I want to go.
I don't want to put so many limits on it,
but that's that's definitely in the tank, and it's just
going about I guess doing that in a safe manner,
which you know, which I feel like I've got the
right people around me to do. So that's the kind
of that that's what we're trying to get to over
the next twelve weeks.
Speaker 3 (40:12):
Well, easy, now, relax into it, do the mahi wee
you need, don't overextend because this is a huge summer.
Really looking forward to it. Great to catch up again, Kyle,
Thanks very much for your time.
Speaker 5 (40:22):
Thanks for having me.
Speaker 3 (40:26):
Break it's not ideal and thanks Kyle.
Speaker 2 (40:36):
What a top bloke he is.
Speaker 3 (40:39):
Splains that the T twenty cricket takes over the world,
everything just has to sit in place and we do
our best to work away around it. The positive we
get a three Test series that to me, I'm cheering about,
trying to find the good and everything right seven and
a half away from AIDS the sports talk on News Talks.
Speaker 2 (40:59):
Hebitumy.
Speaker 3 (41:15):
Fuck the eighth Max lash up after the new sport
and weather package. It's the top of the hour. Haven't
last year, right, we didn't really get a summer of cricket.
We've got a spring of cricket and then it kind
of stopped and we all complained vociferously and waved our
fists and said this is not on where our test matches.
And now they've done it again. But hands are tied, right,
(41:39):
what do they do? Cricket doing the best they possibly
can to bring the best products to the four But
when you have T twenty leagues poisoning the atmosphere of cricket,
you can't do a great deal more. We've got a
three Test series against the West Indies. Let's hope the
(42:01):
first month of summer because it is kind of the
start of the summer. It never is over here, right,
it doesn't rain too much. Yeah, that's it from me.
One last text from Joe. This is on referencing to
hot if Coveredy Rugby Football Union who have postponed all
rugby this weekend because there's some bottom feeder is causing
(42:24):
a ruckus last weekend at a game I've new. I've
taken the first step of one thousand my journey. The
referee is doing his voluntary duty on a game he loves.
The thugs is not getting any oxygen. The other spectators
should stand tall and condemn the abusers. The more light
shining on these stugs, the faster they will shut up.
Thank you Joe, Thank you to whether I'm it was listening,
(42:47):
who texted in to our guests, and AND's Milicitch for
producing the program.
Speaker 2 (42:53):
My name is Darcy.
Speaker 3 (42:54):
