Speaker 1 (00:06):
You're listening to the Sports Talk podcast with Duncie Wildergrave
from news Talk zed Be.
Speaker 2 (00:13):
And it's warm up. Welcome now to Kyle Jamison, big
Man out of the black Caps ahead of the fifth
and final T twenty International, which is happening tomorrow. We hope.
What's the weather looking like in Dunedin Kyle, and welcome.
Speaker 3 (00:28):
Thanks for having me.
Speaker 4 (00:29):
Yeah, I think it's actually looking all right, so yeah,
the fingers crossed for you the game and you have
another good cracking game that we've had sort of, I
guess for the most part of the series.
Speaker 2 (00:40):
It's been a mad series so far. I don't think
anyone could have predicted what happened. Has been all over
the show like a mad woman's I won't even carry
on with that, but it's been it's been very exciting
to watch. Must be quite stressful to play though, Kyle.
Speaker 4 (00:55):
Yeah, yeah, it's been. It's been very excited. I was,
you know, I've had pretty much close flinches and all
the games. So I think that's like the nature of
obviously of T twenty cricket, but especially at these smaller grounds,
is that you're never really out.
Speaker 3 (01:06):
Of it, you know. I guess I guess for either side.
It sort of showed.
Speaker 4 (01:10):
Now in the first game we were sort of down
and out and then match Grass pretty close, and then
some of their big boys got them pretty close in
the next couple. So he has certainly been exciting and
it's been I guess probably in a good way. Nice
to get some pressure situations for us as a group
leading into what's to come.
Speaker 2 (01:25):
Yeah, well what's to come? I there's a World Cup
up around the corner. I think it's squad that initial
squads to to be announced after this. You've got any
idea about your involvement and that at all to even let.
Speaker 4 (01:37):
You know, I haven't heard anything, So I'm just I'm
not too sure, But yeah, I'm sure. Obviously just been
the last series before. They've got to name something or
get named in the little in the suppose the next
little bit, but we've just got to try and lock
them tomorrow, I guess, and try and look away this series.
Speaker 2 (01:56):
Tell us about what you've been up to the ball.
You weren't involved in the last well, no one was
involved pretty much sure of the rain in the last one.
But you've you've gone through I think ups and downs,
mercurial what's been happened with your bowling. How do you
think you'll present to be critical itself, Kyle? I know
you can.
Speaker 3 (02:16):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (02:16):
I mean I probably hasn't necessarily been perfect or what
I would have liked, But I still kind of feel
like in terms of over the last sort of month,
like there's been lots of lots of good stuff and
stuff that I can sort of take and learn from
and move forward. It's just now I just trying to
piece it all together. And I suppose probably probably the
same for a few boys at the moment is just
(02:37):
trying to.
Speaker 3 (02:37):
Piece it all together.
Speaker 4 (02:38):
But that's just the nature of like it his professional sport,
really kind of going through ups and downs and trying
to work things out and rediscover things and just hold
you know, just hold the hold the line a little
bit on some stuff too. So hopefully hopefully we can
get to click to.
Speaker 2 (02:54):
My really enjoyed the fact that there a whole founds
of fast balls out there. Now, it's not just a
case there's one or two, and when they break, we're
in all sorts of trouble. They're everywhere, mate, It's like
they're being bread and they've all been playing very good cricket,
that competition internally a little stressful but welcomed.
Speaker 3 (03:14):
On presuming yeah, I suppose.
Speaker 4 (03:17):
I mean it's not something that we tend to think
about a huge amount, Like I'm sure from the outside
that feels like there's probably a lot of competition for
spots and pressure in that sort of sense, but.
Speaker 3 (03:26):
Not really from within.
Speaker 4 (03:27):
I suppose it's just you're just trying to do do
your best with what you kind of got in front
of you, and you kind of can't really control all
the other stuff. So whilst's probably nice for Robin for
match to have all these different options and guys coming
in and out, it's just I guess as a player,
you're kind of just trying to focus on the next
game and what that role may be and trying to
learn from it to move forward.
Speaker 2 (03:47):
They talk about when you're selling cricket do anyway, and
then we won't go into what's happening with t twenties
in the franchises because you guys don't know a great
deal about that. But what's worked with super Smashes. You've
trained up a whole of the guys who appeared to
be able to fall seamlessly into position if required for
the national side. That is a huge positive for the
(04:08):
Super Smash because I suppose when guys walk in the
shit to go, oh it's you again, Oh I played you,
and everybody just gels it's it's very much a team,
isn't it.
Speaker 4 (04:17):
Yeah, massively, So I think that I think, obviously you
mentioned the Super Smash, I think domestic cricket in general
is just really really strong at the moment. It's off
the back of probably the last or of ten years
with having a having a strong international side, and so
guys have had to sort of buy their time a
little bit and learn their craft and you know, in
domestic cricket. But you know, I think I think those competitions,
especially the Super Smasher, is as strong as a lot
(04:38):
of those comps around the world. It probably doesn't get
the recognition that deserves. And like you said, guys can
kind of sort of come into the international sort of
set up pretty seamlessly and you know, and able to
I guess, contribute in some way.
Speaker 2 (04:50):
How's your carcass, Kyle Jamison, How are you feeling? Because
you're carrying around quite the regu and it does come
with its own set of issues. If you well know that.
But where you're at right now, what have you done,
what have you changed if anything to help continue I
suppose continue playing at that top level.
Speaker 4 (05:08):
Yeah, yeah, it's been good and obviously available for selections
that's always a good start. Yeah, it's obviously been a
pretty pretty sort of relentless last sort of month or
a month or sing into the scheduling sort of feels
like you're you're playing sort of every second day or
you know, or doing something in that and that sort
of realm and yeah, but bodies, Bobby's feeling all right
and just getting some miles in the legs and.
Speaker 3 (05:30):
And building up and all that sort of stuff.
Speaker 4 (05:32):
So yeah, just just being sort of I guess available
for selection is always always nice.
Speaker 3 (05:37):
Off was back at the last, you know, last few years.
Speaker 2 (05:40):
How are you developing as far as keeping your fitness
and dealing with not welcoming injury but putting yourself in
a position that it's less likely than it happened, because
that's what it's all about as you continue in your career,
I'm presuming.
Speaker 3 (05:55):
Yeah, yeah, massively.
Speaker 4 (05:56):
Like you said, like it's you know, what we do
is kind of, as you know, is going to put
us at risk at times, but how do you kind
of and you know that's the question you're always asking,
how do you kind of give yourself the chance of,
you know, off handling that load.
Speaker 3 (06:09):
And the last I guess.
Speaker 4 (06:11):
Suppose eighteen twenty four months, I've learnt a lot around
what I need to do to give myself the best
chance of, you know, of staying on the park. And
you know, whilst whilst nothing's guaranteed, that's you know the
nature of what we do, you're kind of you're kind
of redlining it and you're and you're hoping for the best,
but there's a lot of stuff around how you prep
your body just to just to I guess be available
for selection and just trying to stay on top of that.
Speaker 2 (06:33):
What's up with Mitt Santner? I mean, where did this
come from? He's tend into an absolute assassin. He's watching
guys back going you check this out, I'm going to
want to smash it all over the pack? Does he
do this deal in the nets as well?
Speaker 3 (06:46):
Kyle?
Speaker 4 (06:47):
I mean, he's always had a pretty good swing. I
feel like if you go back, there was always probably
glimpses of it. He's probably piecing it all together at
the moment, and he's probably one of the guys in
the team at the moment that's you know, that's in
a pretty good spot with his game. So it it's
been I think, yeah, I think we've seen it, you know,
over against trainings and in certain games and series different times,
but he's putting it all together at the moment and
(07:09):
Jesus impressive to watch.
Speaker 2 (07:10):
What about yourself in the nets with the willow, because
you know, you fancy yourself as a bit of a
bat and you've shown that you can but plainly focus
on on your bowling. But where you're at, what movement
do you need to make? What's that happen for you
to establish yourself further up the order if you can.
Speaker 4 (07:28):
Trying to get up the order, trying to get a
few more balls and in a couple at the end.
But it's actually been a little bit tricky over last
we haven't you know, we haven't really trained a huge
amount just because we've been on the go the whole time.
Speaker 3 (07:38):
So here it is. It is a bit of a
balance at the moment around.
Speaker 4 (07:42):
I guess that recovery and that rest to to make
sure you can go out there and do your main skill,
but then also finding time to you know, to work
on I guess some of that secondary skill stuff. So yeah,
I still I still reckon there's a you know, there's
a structure and there's a skeleton there to you to
work with, and it's hopefully a few opportunities once the
I guess the form of the game gets a little
(08:02):
bit longer to to try and strengthen performances.
Speaker 3 (08:05):
Together you are holder.
Speaker 4 (08:10):
I think I think we're pretty similar. I reckon, he's
got me on wingspan though, for sure. But yeah, I think, yeah,
it must be pretty similar.
Speaker 1 (08:17):
