Speaker 1 (00:06):
You're listening to the Sports Talk podcast with Dancy Wildergrave
from News Talk z'b.

Speaker 2 (00:12):
It's ten to eight Supercars shortly quick a text. Now,
I am a late bloomert of supercars over the last
four years. The coverage, the commentaries, the graphics aren't that
great that it keeps you interested from the qualifying, pre
race and race. You can't leave the TV. It's second
to none compared to any other sport on TV. I

(00:35):
can't argue on petrolhead. I wouldn't, but it takes me
to Bathurst and you can sit there as a man
who's been watching Bathurst since the mid seventies and be
entertain engaged, learn stuff at six, seven, eight straight hours,
even though I've been watching it all my life. Yeah,

(00:57):
it's a great product. Anyway, let's talk about that now,
final of the VH Supercars Series. It's an Adelaide fifty
points between first and fourth for guys competing for that title.
Ryan Wood, he's on drive. He joins the show now
to talk about Watson Store for the weekend. Ryan Ryan, Ryan,
Welcome to Joe mate. You're racing on the Adelaide Street circuit,

(01:20):
not at the bend. So what do you know about
the street circuit how it operates.

Speaker 3 (01:26):
Yeah, thanks for having me on again mate, No, the
street circuit is real.

Speaker 4 (01:31):
Pleasure to be racing out again.

Speaker 3 (01:34):
You know, we only get two or three on our
calendar a year, and Adelaide's right up there with one
of our favorite events of the year. So to be
back here Adelaide Grand Final pretty cool time of the year.
So soaking up being here. Would have loved to have
been in the top four. But yeah, we've had some
good history here one Super two here, so looking to yeah,
go out on a bang this year with some race winds,

(01:56):
so looking forward to it.

Speaker 2 (01:57):
Slightly different what you're racing in now to Super two
or not. How much difference is it? How much can
you take the information you've picked up from previous races
reapply to this weekend.

Speaker 3 (02:09):
Yeah, a little bit different obviously the Sumber two cars
and older model, but yeah, now we're on a different
tidle last year as well when I raced Main Game here,
So there's a few differences, but all in all, track
still goes the same way as the walls are somewhat
in the same spot and you're still going to close
your eyes and drive as fast as you can.

Speaker 2 (02:29):
That's an interesting theory. You think you want your peepers
open to avoid the wall. Maybe you could just bounce
around the whole track. You'd do it by Braille Ryan.

Speaker 4 (02:38):
Yeah, exactly, exactly, mates. Now looking forward to it Adelaide, like.

Speaker 3 (02:42):
I said, one of our favorite events of the year,
and yeah, soaking it up.

Speaker 2 (02:46):
What makes it so good when you look at all
the different events that you're running and what about the
street circuit Adelaide, what stands out for you as a driver?

Speaker 4 (02:56):
Just the atmosphere here. It becomes a party like Goldie,
very similar to the Goldie vibe.

Speaker 3 (03:01):
A lot of people come and there's a lot of
really really passionate fans Adelaide. So anytime we race here
at the street track, you get the best of the
people out.

Speaker 4 (03:11):
And this year it's even better because it's.

Speaker 3 (03:13):
Our Adelaide Grand Finals, so it's quite a bit different
and I think that's going to spice things up and
make for an even better show.

Speaker 2 (03:20):
Well, it's thought been around with the drivers and the
teams around this because this is the first time this
particular version has been done of the Supercars Championship. Has
it been well accepted? I know you're not in the
top four, so you probably don't love it, But what
about the drivers and teams in general? Do I think
new way of finding a champion is actually working?

Speaker 3 (03:40):
Yeah?

Speaker 4 (03:40):
I think so.

Speaker 3 (03:41):
I think look at this time most years, you wouldn't
have any more than maybe one or two people in
the championship hunting. Usually it's only one guy and he's
wrapped it up already. So to have four people going
into the last round in championship contention, you can't tell
me that's not exciting. So I think that's a good

(04:04):
step forward for our category. Yes, people can say what
they want, but you can't can't fake that. The racing
this year has been probably the best best Supercause's had
for a long time. So it's a pleasure to be
a part of. And yeah, really just enjoying my time
at the moment.

Speaker 2 (04:21):
The format wise, how does the weekend unfold? Because there's
some money involved for you guys as well, which is
going to get your pushing right.

Speaker 3 (04:29):
We always pushed no matter if there's money involved or not.

Speaker 2 (04:32):
So you're a racer, Ryan, You're a racer.

Speaker 3 (04:35):
I know they're still there, so you know we've got
to kick him and chickspecially going into the summer breaks.
So my biggest sk is to make sure we end
the year on a great note. And yeah, I think
we can do that with the car speed we've had.
I'd love to get a podium at a street track
and I haven't had one of those yet, So trying
to tick that box this weekend.

Speaker 2 (04:56):
So three races across the weekend and they all count
for the grand prize. I'm not quite sure how that operates.
I hope you know, Ryan.

Speaker 4 (05:06):
I've got no idea. I just drive.

Speaker 3 (05:08):
So now three races, weather's meant to be okay, and yeah,
it's going to be exciting. I think Friday's probably the
most up and down weather wise, bitter rain lurking around
one hundred k race than two two fifties over the
weekend to top ten shootouts, So jam packed weekend, A
lot involved a lot of people that you know, have

(05:29):
to pull strings to make this Adelaide events. So obviously
can't thank everyone enough. And it's just awesome to have
a grand final here.

Speaker 2 (05:36):
Tell us about the fifty k that's Friday, right? Is
that just out and out cast for the winner?

Speaker 3 (05:41):
Is it?

Speaker 2 (05:42):
Yeah?

Speaker 4 (05:42):
Fifty k for the winner.

Speaker 3 (05:44):
So Yeah, it'll be all on like Donkey Kong, and
I'll tell you what. There'll be people throwing wheels down
the inside that you haven't seen before, and hopefully I'm
one of them. So yeah, it's going to be a spectacle.
Not very often we get to race for prize money,
so yeah, I'm sure there's a few boys looking for
rent money this month.

Speaker 2 (06:02):
When Scott Mcglonchlin Race there, you'll remember what he said
up against wind Cup, which is quite extraordinary. That was
one of the most exciting times there. Do you think
you're gonna plug it into second and f year.

Speaker 3 (06:16):
Um, probably wouldn't say that, but I would definitely plug
it into second and do as much as I can.

Speaker 4 (06:22):
But yeah, that was a cool moment.

Speaker 3 (06:24):
Obviously, Scotty's a real good roaster, and yeah, learn to
or try to be somewhat like him.

Speaker 1 (06:31):
