Speaker 1 (00:06):
You're listening to the Sports Talk podcast with Dancy Waldergrave
from News Talk Zedboday old Son.

Speaker 2 (00:13):
How are you greeting stars?

Speaker 3 (00:16):
Yes, it's a brutal game at times cricket, isn't it well, mentally, physically,
whatever way you want to dice it, it.

Speaker 2 (00:23):
Can take its toll. In New Zealand are feeling that
right now and they'll be please.

Speaker 3 (00:27):
They've got the seventy three run lead of course, getting
to two seventy eight and reply to the West Indies
two hundred and five, so they are now behind.

Speaker 2 (00:37):
The West Needs behind by forty one.

Speaker 3 (00:38):
They're thirty two for two at stumps and news Endor
have moved two West Indies betters, including night Watchmen. So
it's well, I think it's quite an intriguing test match
hitting It's just just the third day coming up if
you think about that, so plenty of time to play.
But just how New Zealand deal without the bowling of
blaed Tichna will be interesting to see. Opportunity for Michael

(01:00):
ray On debut to step up and likewise again are
we going to be expecting plenty from Zach Folks and
Jacob Duffy and Glenn Flips with the ball as well.
Glen Pilips course with a five wick bag here at
this ground in the past, so he's got some experience
as the ball starts to turn and bounce later on.
So yeah, plenty even triggering aspect starts.

Speaker 4 (01:19):
Let's play hot takes. Considering how long this test has
to go. The strength that New Zealand were in, what
on earth were they doing batting like that? Strangle down
legs side, reckless shots. There was a couple of very
good balls, granted at the top of the order, but hey,

(01:39):
pulling it down the throat. How many of those guys
hit the ball straight down the throat They got all
the time in the world and they started playing T
twenty cricket and to me, that's just not good enough.

Speaker 3 (01:50):
Look, I've got some forgiveness for Hay. I mean, he's
top scored in that lineup for on debuts sixty one.
I thought he batted by a large pretty well, I
mean year it was a rash shot that went down
Keema roach's throate and it was quite brilliantly casual from
Roaches to just drop the ball in go and signed
some autocrafts afterwards. I thought there was just magic anyway,

(02:11):
But yeah, it was an excellent things by large from
Mitch Hay. Yeah, there was some rash strokes for sure,
just a lack of judicious sort of stroke making all
shot selection, I think was the disappointing element. I think
you could forgive Tom Lathon got one that went through
the gates.

Speaker 4 (02:25):
That was a great delivery. The first cover were exceptional,
no doubt about.

Speaker 3 (02:30):
That basic brilliant off cutter really and in Winiason getting
the brilliant leg cutter from Anderson Philip. I mean it's
we had him in the press conference afterwards and it's
certainly one of the highlights of his career to date
being able to this miss came Winns in that fashion.
I mean, it was an absolute ripper of a delivery.
Williamson was right across it, except he wasn't and then
it hurts. So it's you know, thirty seven for him,

(02:52):
and he was looking in excellent Nick. Devin Conway was
sixty inn years the leg side et said Daryl Mitchell, likewise,
having made that start at twenty five and still crucial partnership.
I think that fifth wigt one of seventy three between
Mitch and Hay and your tricky names to get across
when you've got so many Mitchell's and the team et cuter.

Speaker 2 (03:11):
A surname or first name.

Speaker 3 (03:14):
But then I think they're going to be really those
runs of the tail with Zach Folks of twenty three,
Jacob Duffy eleven, Michael Ray with thirteen. I think they
could be crucial in the context of the Test, but
you shouldn't be a lot relying on your tail to
wag in the fashion to get your lead over the
Swiss Indies side.

Speaker 4 (03:31):
No, I'm playing against u zellan on Botling, so we'll
just tink it slightly down leg and they'll be tempting
do something stupid.

Speaker 3 (03:39):
It's quite a trend and cricket now though, I think
there's an awful lot of with that that're getting caught
down the league side.

Speaker 4 (03:46):
I strangled down But couldn't you see this coming? Don't
you notice? Let it go on? Look, I'm not great creck.
I'm a fan Simon. It's not enough because I had
an opportunity. They had an opportunity to nail these guys
and they didn't take that opportunity. To me, they'll be
absolutely feel feel that well. I hope they are anyway.

(04:07):
And on that, Oh Andrew quick answer my question. Yeah,
that before it's cricket the only team sport we can't
sub an injured player. They're kind of ludicrous that they
can't cover a ball or a batsman if they break
in health. They've tweaked it a webit, haven't they.

Speaker 2 (04:22):
It must be one of the few I think that
the concussion that's right, yes, but not beyond that. They
haven't extended beyond that.

Speaker 3 (04:32):
And basically it's you know, you go to keep yourself
fit and keep yourself able, and then you think about it,
it's a bit of a risk. I mean, their technic
has really put himself on the line, although it did
seem so innocuous. I mean, it's just really unfortunate for
Blair takening with that shoulder dissocation. But if you're diving
around the boundary, et cetera. And I mean we even
saw it not so long ago, the Rutching Vender damaging
himself into a hoarding, and I know they bring the

(04:53):
boundaries a bit now to try and prevent that. And
then the boundary in general is made of foam, and
so with those those panels they have that they call
them the Toblerroones. It's yeah, they try and keep those
safety f but you're throwing yourself around and once you
once you're gone for a game.

Speaker 4 (05:10):
Five, it's not an hour and a half, it's five days.
That rule has got to be changed.

Speaker 2 (05:15):
Andrew write a stern letter, dear, I see C.

Speaker 4 (05:20):
Yeah that's the one I lock mate. I've got the
number of the guy who used to run the shelves,
talking to him before. And at least they're not sliding
headlong into metal benching and hedges hoardings like they used
to back in.

Speaker 2 (05:31):
My days, foot out on the boundary territory. Yeah, hey,
you got on.

Speaker 4 (05:36):
Your Andrew Orderson, great to catch up. We'll do it
all again tomorrow, providing the game goes for any we'll see.
Thanks very much.
